'Shami will be there...': BCCI secretary Jay Shah virtually confirms India pacer for Australia Test series

BCCI secretary Jay Shah all but confirmed Mohammed Shami for India’s tour of Australia later this year while underlining the senior pacer’s experience as the primary reason why captain Rohit Sharma needs him in the attack.

Shami has been out of action since finishing as the leading wicket-taker in last year’s ODI World Cup at home thanks to an ankle injury, having undergone surgery since then. It will be exactly a year since his last appearance in an Indian kit if he ends up boarding the flight to Australia, where the marquee five-Test series against the reigning red-ball world champions gets underway on 22 November in Perth.

“Our team is already well prepared. We have rested Jasprit Bumrah for a while now. Mohammad Shami is expected to be fit too. This is an experienced Indian side now. Seniors like Rohit and Kohli are fit,” Shah told The Times of India .

“Shami will be there (in Australia) because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia,” he added.

While there has been no official announcement regarding Shami’s return to action, some reports suggest he could be considered for the two Test-series against Bangladesh . The Bengal pacer could also feature in the Ranji Trophy to get some practice in before the Australia Tests.

Shami had started bowling in the nets only a month ago and is reportedly nearing his comeback from the ankle injury that he had picked up midway through the World Cup.

'We're really lucky': Pat Cummins Names Two Aussie Trump Cards Who Could Deter India's Plans In BGT

P at Cummins has emerged as one of the most successful captains for Australia. The bowler led Australia to the WTC final win in 2023 and later in the year spearheaded the team to the ODI World Cup win. On both occasions, it was India, who had to witness the tough sight of Australia lifting the trophy. While Captain Cummins has some great memories to hold on to when it comes to facing India, there still exists a sore point and it is none other than the Border Gavaskar trophy. Rohit's men retained the BGT when Australia came to India in 2023. Team India has pummeled the Aussies in the last four Border-Gavaskar Trophies, and have been the holders of the eminent title since 2014. India would vie to defend the title once again when they will travel down under for the 5-match Test series against Australia later in the year. Should India win again, they will attain the unparalleled achievement of winning three-Test series in Australia.

Pat Cummins' Preparations In Swing for the Upcoming BGT against India

Australia Test captain Pat Cummins expects greater workload with the ball for all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this summer.

Cummins wants both the all-rounders to share the workload with the team's frontline pace attack in the grueling five-Test series starting November.

"It's been huge (having the all-rounders). In some ways we haven't had to use them as much as we thought we would. Which is a great thing. The last couple of summers have been pretty light (with) quick Test matches," Cummins said at the launch of Play Cricket week.

"I suspect this summer might be a bit different at time. We'll be drawing on Cam Green and Mitch Marsh a bit more.

"Even someone like Cam basically started in Shield cricket as a bowler but hasn't had to bowl heaps in Test matches. Now he is a few years older, I think we will be leaning on him a bit more," he added. The 25-year-old Green has bagged 35 wickets at 35.31 in 28 Tests so far in his career.

"The first point is they (Green and Marsh) both absolutely make the top six on their batting alone which is a luxury," Cummins said.

"We're really lucky that Nathan Lyon bowls plenty of overs, so you don't necessarily have to have an all-rounder, but it makes a big difference to have that fifth bowling option.

"And with someone like Cam and Mitch we have six bowling options. It's a really nice thing to have. Top six should always make the team on their batting." Cummins' bowling colleagues have been vocal about how having a bowling captain has benefited the team in managing the workload.

"It's nice of them to say that, they'd never say it to my face," Cummins said.

"When I'm at the top of their mark asking them to do something, they know I'm also doing it down the other end and wouldn't ask for something I can't do myself. Maybe there's a bit of built-up trust over the last decade or so."

It's time again for Test Cricket in Incredible India . Australia's last cricket tour to this dazzling land was in Feb 2017 . After winning the 1st Test in Pune by 333 runs, Australia couldn't capitalise and lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to India 2-1.

When Australia Tours India in 2022 , we will not have won a Test series in India since Michael Clarke's debut in 2004 , and before that was 1969 . Thus, we want to change that 'win once every 52 years' with your support at the 4-Test Match Series in Oct-Nov 2022 in this amazing country.

Australian Cricket Tours - Indian Soldiers Lined Up For The India Pakistan Border Closing Ceremony At Attari

India is captivating, inspiring, and colourful , with unequal exuberance anywhere in world cricket. The stadiums are frenzied cauldrons of passion and patriotism, bountiful biryani, dodgy seating, stray dogs, and sleeping police. You can go to India and lose yet leave happy because of the mind-blowing experience . If India is performing well, the full whack of packed stadia is breathtaking.

India excites, mesmerises, and  baffles  your every sense, and that's just trying to get into the cricket. Away from the game, ancient palaces, vast deserts, tranquil waterways, vibrant villages, holy lakes, humbling cities, giant forts, sumptuous foods, holy cows, barking dogs, rail safaris, elephant polo, and chaotic streets will astound you. That too with colonial railway stations of an infamous rail network; Indian Railways carries 23m people on 13,000 daily trains, connecting 7500+ stations.

When you join our Australian Cricket Tour of India we make your brief time in this vast country, hassle-free. In India, hassles are normal but tempered when enjoyed with awesome people, some of whom we've travelled with since 1995. Though capable of ' doing it themselves ', many that are well-travelled join us year after year because they simply love watching cricket with the guys & girls that tour with us. As we say, we focus on bringing people together at the great game, safely and comfortably.

Australian Cricket Tours - The Impressive Taj Mahal Seen Through The Trees On Our Cricket Tour Pilgrimage To Agra, India

In India 2022 we have 8 nights per Test in great hotels (with India's tireless guest-services!) that will collect you from the airport no matter what time you arrive. Like many things in India, where we stay depends on where we play. 3 or 4-star hotels are often the best available, if not just more convenient.

Cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and New Delhi have outstanding 5-star hotels , but they may not be best-positioned for the game or post-match enjoyment. Ultimately, we stay at hotels that are convenient for reaching the game, so long as they have a rooftop bar and restaurant; our favourite way to enjoy 'apres-play' in India!

Australian Cricket Tours - Proud Indian Flags Raised High In The Crowd At The India Pakistan Border Closing Ceremony At Attari

The night before each Test we'll have a 'roof-top dinner party' including beer, wine, & spirits, and where you will receive your awesome Bent Banani shirts and much-needed match tickets. One of the most important things we do for you is removing the hassle of trying to find that lone outlet, such as a bank, that distributes match tickets. We have that covered, as you will be!

Your match tickets will be in stands that are covered all day, though a touch of morning or afternoon sun may peek under the roof in some venues. Usually, we sit at 'fine-leg/third man' if not up and down the wicket but it depends on venue ticket distribution.

Australian Cricket Tours - Australian Test Cricket Tour To India 2022 | Book Now

If you are one of the many independent cricket-lovers that prefer a low or no-grade hotel but still want to enjoy the cricket with us, our match tickets & dinner tour  is for you. Join us the night before the game for a dinner party when you'll receive your match tickets and shirts. We also have a dinner party on the night of day 5 to celebrate the win, that we cheer for Australia to achieve on Day 3!

Should the Test end early, we'll suggest places to invest your time if you don't just flop by the pool or tee-up on one of India's spectacular golf courses. Because of such vast choices & interests, we do not include 'sightseeing', leaving what you do, to you.

Australian Cricket Tours - Inside The Majestic Agra Fort During Our Cricket Tour Pilgrimage To Agra, India

With all of our Cricket Tours, you can do one Test or all, the 2nd & 3rd, or only the 4th. It's all up to you. With 4-Test Series in India , Australia will play 1 or 2 warm-up games before playing 2 Tests, have a 1-week break, and then play 2 Tests.

Where we enjoy that break will be determined by where we play. We'd love to 'houseboat' , as we did in 2008, on the spectacular Kerala backwaters but only if the 2nd and 3rd Tests are in Chennai and Bengaluru. It takes too long to reach Kochi from New Delhi or Kolkata by train (as our preferred means) though 50+ domestic flights per day land in Kochi, so flying will remain an option... if we don't visit Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Australian Cricket Tours - An Indian Couple Sit Aside The Lake At The Golden Temple During Our Cricket Tour Pilgrimage To Amritsar, India

India is huge and no matter what we do it will be unique such as our Indian Railways Rajasthan Tour after Australia vs Afghanistan in Dehradun . After Kanpur or Lucknow, we can go to holy Varanasi on the Ganges River. If we play in Mohali we'll see the Golden Temple  (above),  India Pakistan border closing , and take the  toy train to Simla .

Included in our India 2022 sample itinerary , are 4-nights in Andaman & Nicobar Islands after Kolkata and before Bengaluru (direct flights included). We would prefer to 'Indian Railways' across the country but visiting the islands highlights the near endless choice of 'places to go' in India, without the cricket.

Of course, you are welcome to go where you like. We do not lock you into spending any more time with us than you want. You can enjoy the 2nd Test with us, disappear for the week, and then join us for the 3rd Test. With many ways to invest a week in India, we quietly wait for the schedule before confirming what will be an outstanding (optional) add-on tour.

Australian Cricket Tours - Playing Cricket On The Yamuna River Behind The Taj Mahal On Our Cricket Tour Pilgrimage To Agra, India

On Australian Cricket Tours  to India past, the break was spent in Agra visiting the Taj Mahal and playing cricket on the Yamuna River (above). In 2022 we won't stay in Agra as a new express train from New Delhi  only takes 100mins. If we play in New Delhi, a  day-trip  to see the Taj,   Baby Taj , and Agra Fort  is all you need. We will organise this optional trip to confirm train tickets. Otherwise, Agra is easily reached by direct flight from many cities.

Australian Cricket Tours - The View Of The Railway Tracks From The Doorway Of An Indian Railways Train Journey To Chandigarh, India

Speaking of train travel, this Cricket Tour to India will see us back on track with Indian Railways between test matches included in our Hotel Tours. In 2001 we spent 272 hours on the rails between 3 Tour Games, 3 Tests, & 5 ODI's, from Feb 17 to April 6 . It was EPIC, especially when ending the tour in Goa ! If you enjoy our Match Tickets & Dinner Tour , you may need to book your own railway journeys.

Train journeys will be optional* and mostly overnight pending the schedule; e.g, Bengaluru to Chennai is a 6-hour day train, whereas New Delhi to Chennai is 30 hours. These adventures will be in 2nd Class Air-Con (2A) . We'd prefer 1A but with limited seats, we'll use one class with better availability to travel as one.

*If you prefer to fly to the next city you can. You'll have 8 nights in a hotel or 7 nights in a hotel and 1 night on the train for the same price.

Australian Cricket Tours - Exquisitely Painted Elephants Parade With Vivid Colour And Artistry At The Elephant Festival In Jaipur

As with many Australian Cricket Tours to India , we may not know the schedule until much closer to the time, and even then the dates remain fluid. Even 4 weeks before the 1st ball cities & dates are changed, leaving us scrambling for new hotels, flights, and trains. If you tour with us, we will be all over these changes for you. There has not been a Cricket Tour to India that the schedule has not changed so keep that in mind when choosing to go alone or with us.

Australian Cricket Tours - Two Boys Sit Atop An Ageing Brick Wall Cricket Scoreboard In Jaipur

Understanding the flippancy of previous tours, the weather in India in October should dictate that our 2022 tour start north in Dharamsala / Mohali / New Delhi, and play south via Kolkata / Nagpur / Mumbai / Hyderabad to end in Bengaluru / Chennai. Should!

Even without knowing dates, book our Australian Cricket Tour To India Oct 2022 and get ahead of the rest for good reason. India A Women walloped their Australian counterparts at the Great Barrier Reef Arena on Sunday, August 18 in the third game of their three-match 50-overs series. The outcome helped India A Women register their first win of the two-week long tour of Australia.

Hasabnis, Raghvi Bist fifties take India A to 243-9

India A Women lost opener Shweta Sehrawat for a first-ball duck to Australia’s new-ball pace merchant Maitlan Brown. Kiran Navgire (25 off 23 balls) and Uma Chetry (16 off 22) counterattacked for a while before getting toppled by Charli Knott and Tess Flintoff respectively in quick succession.

At 42-3, middle-order batters Tejal Hasabnis and Raghvi Bist listed fighting half-centuries and shared 104 runs together to take India near the 150-run mark. Sajeevan Sajana also shaped a valuable 40 in the backend of the innings while captain Minnu Mani punched out 34 crucial runs to take India A to a competitive 243-9 from 50 overs.

Chasing 244 for a series sweep, Australia A opener Maddy Darke and number four Tess Flintoff stamped confident 20s at the top after the early dismissals of Charli Knott and Tahlia McGrath. Meghna Singh and Soppadhandi Yashasri delivered the early breakthroughs for India by the time Australia reached 20.

At 48-2, Priya Mishra pierced through the hosts’ middle-order with five quick wickets in a space of just five overs. Mishra conceded just 14 runs in her short spell to crash the entire Australian run-chase for just 72 in 22.1 overs. Minnu Mani also picked up two wickets as India A Women secured a huge 171-run victory to avoid a series whitewash.

Pat Cummins has put the LA 2028 Olympics on his wishlist when cricket marks its return

There will be plenty of cricketers on the wrong side of 30 looking to hold on for the 2028 Olympics and the Australian Test captain is among them.

50-year snub leaves stadium’s future in doubt

50-year snub leaves stadium’s future in doubt

A zoned-in focus on rest after going “non-stop for about two years” is crucial to Test captain Pat Cummins’ plan to get through all five matches against India this summer, but it’s the exact approach that could also help get him to the 2028 Olympics.

As he closed the door on any likelihood of playing Big Bash at the back end of this season, and said his workload would always be geared around playing as much Test cricket as possible, the 31-year-old said it would be “awesome” to play for Australia in four years’ time having soaked up the recent Games in Paris.

Cummins, whose birthday is in May, which would make him 35 when the LA Olympics come around, is moderating his workload for the now but started smiling when asked about potentially adding a gold medal to a cricketing resume that has every possible trophy already on it.

“That would be pretty awesome. After seeing Paris the last few weeks I’ve started to get pretty excited about potentially going,” he said in Sydney on Monday.

“It hasn’t really been on any or our radars. Four years away, anything can happen, you never quite know.

“But that would be awesome to represent Australia in the middle of an Olympics, it’s something special.”

Cummins is skipping an upcoming white-ball tour of the UK as part of a pre-planned resting period in what has been a rare long stint without having played any Tests.

His last effort in a baggy green was in New Zealand in March, and he doesn’t expect to bowl a ball in a game until turning out for NSW, more likely in a one-day game, before playing a November ODI series against Pakistan.

He defended a decision to go and play in the Major League Cricket T20 competition in the US during his “break”, adamant the short, seven-match outing didn’t impact his plans.

But he reiterated his priority would always be representing Australia, and playing Test cricket, which is why he’s set to “smash out” sone gym work over the next month before getting his bowling reps going again.

“This was an interesting year in terms of the gap leading into the summer and so the break was pre-planned,” he said.

“The MLC popped up late and when we were working through the schedule it didn’t change any of the prep leading into the summer. It was a nice little gap which isn’t always going to be the case, and there will be other years where international cricket clashes and that takes priority.

“That was the reason behind the break. There aren’t many breaks in the calendar unless you kind of manufacture one, so medical staff, coaches and everyone thought it was a good opportunity to have a month off bowling for my body and then build up, hopefully be in as good a position as I can be for five Tests.”

That workload, and a Sri Lankan Test series in February, rules out any chance of Cummins playing in the BBL for the Sydney Thunder and could preclude any of his Test teammates also turning out despite officials being hopeful they could be a presence at the back-end of the tournament.

“I think it’s going to be tough,” he said.

“We’ve go the five Tests then straight into the Sri Lanka tour, about a week-and-a-half after the last Test we’ll fly off, so I think it might be tough.”

As political turmoil rages in Bangladesh six weeks out from the start of the T20 World Cup, Alyssa Healy has made clear her views on travelling there.

She’s the future of Australian cricket and showed why teams are shelling out six-figure sums to get her involved.

India A 242 for 9 (Bist 53, Hasabnis 50, Brown 3-39) beat Australia A 72 (Mishra 5-14) by 172 runs

India A picked up their first win of their tour of Australia, with a massive 171-run victory in their third one-dayer, in Mackay on Sunday. Legspinner Priya Mishra , playing her first match of the tour, led with a five-wicket haul to bowl Australia A out for 72. Australia, however, won the series 2-1, and had clinched the T20s 3-0.

Asked to bat first, India A posted 243 for 9 following Tejal Hasabnis ' 50, Raghvi Bist 's 53 and handy contributions from Sajeevan Sajana and captain Minnu Mani down the order. At 43 for 3, Hasabnis and Bist put on a crucial 104-run stand for the fourth wicket to lift India A to a competitive total. Both hit seven fours each in their innings. For Australia A, fast bowler Maitlan Brown struck three times while Nicola Hancock and offspinner Charli Knott got two wickets each.

Australia A's chase got off to a poor start with fast bowler S Yashasri knocking out opener Knott for a 12-ball 11 in the fourth over. Captain Tahlia McGrath fell in the following over to Meghna Singh when she rattled her stumps. Mishra then weaved a web around the batters to knock them out inside 100.

The 20-year-old got a wicket off her first delivery, bowling out Maddy Darke for 22. From 48 for 2, Australia lost their next eight wickets for 24 runs inside 23 overs with Mishra dismissing wicketkeeper Nicole Faltum, Tess Flintoff, Kate Peterson and Hancock. Mishra returned figures of 5 for 14 in her five overs.

McGrath conceded that Mishra had some tricks that Australia A weren't ready for. "Not the way we wanted to finish off the white-ball series," she said after the game. "Coming in, we were talking about being clinical and walking away 6-0, so pretty disappointed with that. Fresh wicket today, we thought it probably turned a little bit more for the spinners than it did for the first two ODIs.

"India batted really well and at one stage we were looking on track for sort of that 300 mark. So we were happy with the way we pulled them back, but yeah, just didn't show up with the bat. Take nothing away from India, they bowled really well. Quicks up front and then that new leggie [Mishra] had some tricks that we probably weren't prepared for."

Both sides will meet for the last time in this tour for an unofficial Test from August 22.
