Wahiba Sands desert is a highlight of any trip to Oman. The impressive orange sand dunes offer a unique experience, especially at sunrise and sunset. Therefore, I recommend an overnight stay! Below is my guide to plan your visit: access, tips, map, photos and Wahiba Sands camps.

Before my tips + photos, here are my favorites for Oman:

Deserts of Oman & Why visit Wahiba Sands?

The deserts of oman.

Most of Oman (estimated around 82%) is covered by desert or semi-desert environments. The 2 most well-known for tourism are:

  • The Empty quarter (Rub’ al Khali) , the largest of the deserts. It expands on a large portion of the Arab peninsula. However, you need to get a lot more South and West to reach it.
  • Wahiba Sands a.k.a. Sharqiya Sands
  • There are smaller ones also close to Muscat but far less interesting visually.

Dunes of Wahiba Sands Desert, Oman

Why visit Wahiba Sands a.k.a Sharqiya Sands?

Wahiba Sands is what everyone dreams of when thinking of a desert:

  • Orange sand dunes
  • Long giant longitudinal dunes with smaller ones in between
  • Those dunes are easily accessible from the capital, Muscat

Facts and Figures

  • The desert covers 180km North to South and 80km East to West
  • Apart from the touristic camps, there are no permanent settlements, only Bedouin temporary camps
  • The Dunes of Wahiba Sands can reach 100 meters in height
  • Have a look at Google Earth and you will see how longitudinal the dunes are from North to South:

Before with discuss how to visit the Wahiba sands desert, let’s start with a short video of my drive into Wahiba Sands and the night I spend wild camping in the desert. You will see why it became one of my top places to visit Oman .

Planning tips & Map – Wahiba Sands, Oman

Wahiba sands map and location.

The desert of Wahiba sands is located South of Sur, and South East of Muscat. The travel times below are to Al-Wasil, before entering the desert:

  • Muscat to Wahiba Sands – 2h drive
  • Sur to Wahiba Sands – 1h40 drive
  • Nizwa to Wahiba Sands – 2h20
  • Easiest entrances are at Bidiyah Castle (24km gravel road and then sand tracks) and Al Wasil (mix of gravel path and sand tracks)

On the Map, you can see with the orange dots the location of the desert and some of the 4WD tracks to enter.

  • Summer Time – the heat of the Summer (June to August) should be avoided but even from mid-April to late September, you will have extremely hot days
  • Winter Time – from October to beginning of April is when it is bearable and can even be enjoyable. I have found December lovely. Although when the wind picks up it can get cold. You will get 25 to 35°C during the day and 15 to 25°C at night.

How to get to Wahiba Sands – Self Drive

  • OPTION 1 – you rent a 4WD and are comfortable driving on the sand, so you can get to the campsites in the wadis between the longitudinal dunes.
  • OPTION 2 – drive to the towns at the foot of the desert and get the accommodations to send a 4WD to take you to the campsite
  • It you are doing a self-drive day trip from Muscat, is often combined with Wadi Bani Khalid

How to get to Wahiba Sands Oman

  • Wild camping is allowed anywhere (except too close to the camps)
  • Most camps can pick you up at the nearby village – no need to rent a 4WD
  • It is possible to cross North to South but only if you are an experienced sand dune driver and with enough provision for several days
  • Do not go off-road between the hottest months, April to October
  • Don’t forget to bring plenty of water, flashlight and warm clothes for the night.
  • Do remember that although it is a desert, it can be cold at night and windy. Bring layers of clothes.

Overnight stay – Wahiba Sands Camps vs Wild Camping

You have 2 options to stay in the desert of Wahiba Sands:

Wahiba Sands Desert Camps Oman

You can stay at one of the several desert camps situated in the northern part of the desert. The camps will pick you up at the desert entrance if you need. They offer activities such as sunset viewing, camel rides, quad, dune bashing etc. Their facilities level vary up to some luxury.

The advantage is that you have all the facilities you need. They are located in the flat areas between high dunes and you will find them in different valleys. Some of the best rated on Booking.com include:

  • The Oman Desert Private Camp – Check out photos & availability
  • The Starwatching private camp – Check out photos & availability
  • The Safari Dunes Camp – Check out photos & availability
  • The Desert Nights Camp – Check out photos & availability
  • The Arabian Oryx Camp – Check out photos & availability
  • The 1000 nights camp,…

Wahiba Sands Camping (wild camping)

Thanks to my guide I went wild camping in the Wahiba Desert. We drove past the campsites, as the dunes are smaller there. However, they are still big sand dunes. Only experienced 4WD driver should attempt it!!!

The advantage is that you can wander and be on you own! As you will see later, I wandered for sunset and sunrise and it was fantastic!!!! See where I left the car?

Camp in Wahiba Sands

Driving in the Wahiba Sands desert

Approaching the sand.

We entered the desert via Al Wasil. First we stopped to remove some air from the tires. A local stopped by and gave us a hand. Omanis are so sweet! In Al Wasil you will find many mechanical shops if you need help.

As you can see, the dunes really start just like that. It is all flat in front of you and then the dunes rise.

Approching the dunes of Wahiba Sands, Oman 2

Driving in between the sand dunes

On the way in we drove on one side along a high sand dunes. This was a sand track allowing us to drive quite fast.

Driving the Wahiba Sands Oman

We drove past 2 permanent touristic camps: the Desert Nights Camp and the Arabian Oryx Camp. We continued furthered until the track disappeared and the dunes started.

Here the dunes are smaller and it is easier to drive and find a camping spot. But I did not take pictures when the driving became more difficult…

Driving in the desert of Wahiba Sands Oman

On the way back, we drove to the other side of the valley. The trail was a mixture of dirt and sand.

Wahiba Sands Pictures – Sunset over the sand dunes

At Sunset, I walked around and admired the dunes changing colors as the sun set. I took hundreds of pictures and it is hard to select only a few.

Sharqiya Sands Sunrise

After a good night sleep in complete silence, I woke up early to be sure not to miss the sunrise. Not magnificent clouds but a peaceful feeling that I miss. A little later I heard a rooster so a Bedouin family must have had settled on the other side of the big dune.

As I had some time, I walked higher and higher and discovered different shapes of dunes.

Great photos! Looks like an amazing night!

We would really like to do the same but have never driven on dunes. How did you find your guide?

Hi Sam. It was an amazing night. I have found my guide on ToursbyLocals. Not many guides have the equipment and the willingness to camp though. I used Valentina from VS Tours. That part of her service was really good.

Hi Claire, I have one question for you. Do you think it would be complicated/safe to find a wild camping spot in Wahiba Sands without a guide? I will not be looking for a spot on the top of the highest sand dune. I prefer safety first, but on the other hand I don’t want to go camping few meters away from the gravel road. 🙂

March 31, 2017 at 9:01 AM

Hi Crt Thanks for your comment. The question is to be able to find you way out. But I think if you go to the end of the dried wadi where the camps are, then go past only 2 small dunes you could already feel alone and not get lost. However I would not go further without a guide. It always look like you can see where you are going but dunes are treacherous. However the most important question is : are you capable of driving a 4×4 on sand dunes? Wishing you a wonderful trip!

I wanted to know, whether a normal SUV which does not have 4X4 functionality reach DNC. Whether there is graded road to reach up to camp.

December 18, 2020 at 8:02 AM

Hi Ali Last time I visited, it was not graded. Sandy and bumpy, a 4×4 was required. The best option is to contact the camp to see what they say about the track. They can normally pick you up with a 4×4 at the closest village. I wish you wonderful travels, Claire

Visiting the beautiful desert of Wahiba Sands was one of the highlights of our road trip around Oman . In this article I will tell you everything you need to know to plan your visit and have the best time!

How to reach Wahiba Sands

To reach Wahiba Sands in Oman, you have a few options depending on your starting point:

  • From Muscat : The drive from Muscat to Wahiba Sands is approximately 230 kilometers (about 143 miles), taking around 3 hours. You can take Route 23 and then merge onto Route 17, which leads towards the desert area.
  • From Nizwa : The distance from Nizwa to Wahiba Sands is around 200 kilometers (about 124 miles), with an estimated driving time of 2.5 hours. The most common route is via Route 21, connecting to Route 23.
  • From Sur : Sur is relatively closer to Wahiba Sands, at about 150 kilometers (93 miles) away. The journey typically takes around 2 hours, traveling via Route 23.
  • From Salalah : For those coming from Salalah, the trip is considerably longer, about 1050 kilometers (652 miles), and can take approximately 12 hours. This would involve a longer drive north on Route 31, connecting to Route 23.

Keep in mind that while the main roads to the edge of the desert are paved and well-maintained, venturing into the sands themselves requires a 4×4 vehicle and, ideally, the company of an experienced guide or tour operator to navigate the desert safely.

💡 TIP – If you’re not comfortable self driving into the desert you can ask the hotel where you’re staying for a pick up service.

🚘 OUR EXPERIENCE – We stayed at Desert Nights Resort and arranged a pick up from Al Wasil. We had a 4×4 car for our adventure up in Jebel Shams but I didn’t feel comfortable driving on a desert road. In hindsight, for the short distance driving we didn’t really need the transfer and could have easily driven this part ourselves.

The best time to visit Wahiba Sands

The best time to visit Wahiba Sands in Oman is during the cooler months from October to March . During this period, the daytime temperatures are pleasant, making it ideal for exploring the vast expanse of dunes and engaging in activities like dune bashing, camel riding, and camping under the stars.

The nights can be cooler, offering a comfortable desert camping experience .

Avoid the summer months from May to September, as temperatures can soar, making outdoor activities less enjoyable and more challenging due to the intense heat. This window also allows you to witness the desert’s unique flora and fauna, adding an extra layer of wonder to your adventure.

The vast majority of the camps will also shut down from March to September and it’s not just because of the heat. This is also the windiest time of the year. And if there’s one thing that’s really unpleasant it’s getting caught in a sandstorm.

The least windiest time in Wahiba Sands is from November to February.

💡 TIP – Try to avoid visiting on a Friday or Saturday. These days are the Omani weekend and a lot of locals will head out to the desert making it a lot busier.

Where to stay in Wahiba Sands

We stayed at Desert Nights Resort and had a fabulous time.

If you prefer  a desert camp with some luxury  then Desert Nights Resort will be the best option for you. Their luxury tents are completely closed off from the sand and also include airconditioning, a private bathroom and an outdoor patio.

They also offer a pick up service from Al Wasil so you don’t have to drive in the desert yourself. Besides that they also offer  a plethora of activities  such as a sunset or sunrise drive up the dunes, camel rides, ATV-rides, dune bashing and a breakfast or dinner on the dunes.

In my personal opinion this is one of the best places to stay in Oman . Both their breakfast, lunch and dinner were excellent and included.

Things to do in Wahiba Sands

1. sunset dune tour at desert nights resort.

We spent 24 incredible hours in the Omani desert and stayed at Desert Nights Resort . Upon arrival we were shown the list of activities and one of them was a sunset dune tour, which was also included in our room price.

So after unpacking our bags we jumped into one of their 4WD’s and up the dunes we went! The drive up is short but what an experience! But once we arrived at the top of the sand dunes we were in for a really treat. Orange hued rolling sand dunes as far as the eye could see and the sun cascading its light on the sand creating a wonderful spectacle.

2. Sunrise dune tour at Desert Nights Resort

Do you know what’s even better than a sunset dune tour? A sunrise dune tour! This one wasn’t included in our room package but nevertheless we got out off bed before the break of dawn and met our driver at the entrance of the camp.

While the sunset tour is right next to the camp the sunrise dune tour took us further into the desert. Compared to the sunset tour this was also a much calmer experience and one of my favorite moments in Oman.

3. Hot Air Balloon Ride at Wahiba Sands

Since we were only in the desert for 24 hours we didn’t have the chance to go on a hot air balloon ride for sunrise. But during our morning among the sand dunes we did see balloons gliding over the desert.

Oman Hot Air Balloon Rides are one of the best ways to discover and explore the area of Sharqiya Sands. While you are watching the scenic view of the desert and different colors of sand from your Hot Air Balloon, you will close your eyes and listen to the sound of silence and peace.

4. Take a day trip to Wādī Banī Khālid

Oman is known for its Wadi’s and there are a ton that you can visit. It’s definitely one of the top things that you can do during your stay in Oman.

Wadi Bani Khalid is pretty close to Wahiba Sands and can be easily visited on a day trip from the desert. There’s no entrance fee and  Wadi Bani Khalid can be easily reached .

Do know that if you want to go swimming at one of the Wadi’s in Oman that  you also need to cover up as a woman . Wearing a bathing suit or bikini outside of your hotel isn’t allowed. Simply wear a T-shirt and some shorts over your swimsuit and you’ll be fine.

🎫 TOUR – If you don’t want to self drive during your holiday in Oman you can take this guided tour that leaves from Muscat and visits both Wahiba Sands and Wadi Bani Khalid in the same day.

💡  TIP  – There are two Wadi Bani Khalid’s on Google Maps. This is  the link to the correct one .

Visit Wahiba Sands - Discover the Omani Desert

Is Wahiba Sands worth visiting?

Absolutely, Wahiba Sands is definitely worth visiting for anyone looking to experience the authentic beauty and adventure of the Omani desert. With its vast expanse of rolling sand dunes stretching as far as the eye can see, Wahiba Sands offers a quintessential desert landscape that’s both breathtaking and serene.

Whether you’re seeking the thrill of dune bashing, the unique experience of a camel trek, or the simple pleasure of watching a spectacular sunset paint the sands in hues of gold and orange, Wahiba Sands delivers.

The opportunity to stay overnight in a traditional Bedouin camp adds to the allure, providing a taste of desert life and the chance to stargaze in some of the clearest night skies.

For nature lovers, culture enthusiasts, and adventure seekers alike, Wahiba Sands promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Oman’s natural wonders.

How many nights to stay in Wahiba Sands

A stay of one to two nights in Wahiba Sands is typically ideal for most travelers. One night gives you the chance to experience the magical desert sunset, a peaceful night under the starlit sky, and the beautiful sunrise that illuminates the dunes.

Extending your stay to two nights allows for a deeper exploration of the desert , including more extensive dune bashing, camel treks, and even visits to nearby Bedouin communities for a richer cultural immersion.

Summer – the summer months (June to August) should be avoided. But even from mid-April to the end of September, the days can get extremely hot.

How to get to the Wahiba Sands?

Self-drive with a 4×4.

If you are used to driving in sand with a 4×4 it is possible to drive yourself in the Wahiba Sands between the longitudinal dunes. It is however recommended to travel in the company of another car for safety reasons.  Also, do not go off-road during the hottest months, between April to October. Make sure you have provision (food and water) with you for several days. If you choose for a self-drive, you can either head to one of the many camps in the sand dunes or set up your camp in the dunes. Wild camping in Oman is completely legal. However, make sure not to camp too close to the camps.

We recommend to rent a car in Oman through  Discovercars.com  with free cancellation and insurance included.  Discovercars.com is a world leader in comparing prices and offering great deals.

Check availability and book your 4WD rental car HERE

Pick-up service at the start of the Wahiba Sands

If you drive a 2 WD drive in Oman you can arrange a pick-up service from one of the camps in the Wahiba Sands. Most of the camps pick you up either in Bidiyah or Al Wasil.  When you book your camp upfront, you can contact the camp for more information regarding the pick-up. Pick-up service varies from 20-35 OMR. We strongly advise you to book a pick-up service via your accommodation. There are also lots of bedouins trying to offer you a ride to your accommodation but prices get extreme.

Best things to do in the Wahiba Sands

One of the best things to do in the Wahiba Sands is climbing the ever-changing sand dunes. Every time you reach the top of the sand dune, there is an even more spectacular sand dune behind it. The patterns of the sand are mesmerizing. Make sure to witness the sunset and/or sunrise from the top of a sand dune and watch how the dunes get covered in golden light.

Most of the camps also organize extra paying activities. One of the most popular activities is dune bashing, often combined with a sunset or sunrise tour. Dune bashing is driving of the dunes at an increasing and decreasing speed and definitely gives you an adrenaline rush. Another great activity in the desert is a camel ride. Most camps give you the possibility to choose between different time arrangements, for example a camel ride of 15 minutes or 30 minutes.

Our top 5 recommendations of places to stay in the Wahiba Sands

One of the most magical things to do in the Wahiba Sands is to watch the sunrise and the sunset, when the sand dunes are covered in golden light. For that reason we recommend spending at least one night in the Wahiba Sands. There are a number of camps in the Wahiba desert, ranging from basic to luxury. Below we give you an overview of the best camps based on our research and time in the Wahiba Sands.

Be aware that most of the camps in the Wahiba Sands don’t offer WiFi. If you need internet we highly recommend buying a SIM-card in Oman. Omantel offer prepaid tourist SIM-cards at a great rate. Of course, mobile data reception will depend on your location. We are big fans of a portable WiFi hotspot so we can keep our original SIM-card in our phones.

Starry Domes Desert Camp

Starry Domes Desert Camp was where we spent our 24 hours in the desert. This intimate camp has several domes with a patio that overlook the endless sand dunes. To make sure you have a good nightrest, the domes are air-conditioned. All domes have a private bathroom. A really delicious breakfast is included. What to take with you when traveling to the Wahiba Sands

wahiba sands oman travel guide

  • Bring breathable, light and layered clothing. Even during the cooler months, temperatures in the desert are hot during the day and can get cold during the night, especially when the wind picks up. Make sure to bring a fleece sweater to stay warm when you admire the starry sky.
  • Sunscreen is a must as the Omani sun burns. Make sure to apply sunscreen regularly. A hat (or a traditional headdress bought in Oman) is the best way to protect your head and face. Don’t forget to protect your eyes and bring qualitative sunglasses .
  • We strongly suggest not to walk barefoot in the sand. There are two reasons for that. First, the sand can get really hot under the Omani sun. Another reason is that the sand is also the home of snakes and scorpions. Best shoes to wear in Oman are sandals. We are big fans of Teva sandals . These sandals are perfect for different types of travel: Teva sandals have sturdy straps that make them excellent for hiking. Another advantage of Teva sandals is that they are also perfect for water activities (and there are plenty of water activities in Oman considered the many wadis).
  • Make sure to stay hydrated! In Oman it’s important to drink lots of water to avoid dehydration. So make sure to bring a water bottle that can be refilled.
  • Make sure to capture your memories. A GoPro is excellent to take with you to Oman. It can withstand sand perfectly and is also waterproof. Therefore, the GoPro is the best device for both the desert and the wadis in Oman.
  • A portable WiFi hotspot to get WiFi on the road.

Desert dunes in Oman's Empty Quarter

Visit the Wahiba Sands, Oman

  • Accommodation
  • Things to do

In the heart of eastern Oman, the Wahiba Sands is an ocean of regular dunes that seem to stretch out endlessly. Pale gold at noon, the towering piles of sand shift between rich yellow and coppery orange when the sun is at lower angles. Just a three-hour drive from Muscat, an overnight stay here offers an easy way to experience the primal power of the desert from the comfort of luxe camps. The sands are an important piece of the puzzle that is Oman, and you can add a night to any itinerary — it’s an especially good place for a family adventure .

Dunes here run north to south in surprisingly regular lines, pushed by the winds to heights of up to 100 m (330 ft). They’re highest in the east, near the oceans, and dwindle the farther north you go. The south is full of treacherous salt flats.

Wahiba Sands, Oman

Bedouin style, honed by centuries living in this unforgiving landscape, has a strong influence on many of the camps in the desert. For a wholly authentic experience, you can choose to stay in a traditional black-wool tent, though if you prefer more creature comforts, you can choose a more indulgent tent that boasts air conditioning. Once the sun has set, dine on local cuisine like lamb and mint tea served on low tables around a crackling fire.

Guests in these camps can take advantage of a wide variety of activities. Light pollution doesn’t dim the stars here and stargazing is a popular activity after sunset. Locals and visitors alike exploit the soft sand hills and emptiness to go tearing around in 4x4s with an experienced driver, something called dune bashing. You can also enjoy a camel ride or climb to the top of a dune to watch the sunset.

Despite its barren appearance, the desert is also home to a surprisingly diverse variety of plants and animals. A 1986 expedition by Britain’s Royal Geographical Society documented 16,000 different species of invertebrates as well as 200 species of mammals, birds and reptiles, all supported by hidden underground water reserves. You aren’t likely to see much, however, as most of the wildlife here is notoriously shy.

The Wahiba Sands’ empty beauty has made it a popular destination, which means that you might be able to hear other camps or the occasional 4x4. Though it detracts slightly from the majesty of the desert night, we think that it’s still a worthy destination. If you want a quieter, less-commercial option, we can arrange for you to stay at a totally private camp.

How to Visit the Wahiba Sands

jana meerman sunrise desert nights camp wahiba sands oman (9)

I was joined for my week in Oman by Ina, a close friend of mine from Salzburg, after my two weeks solo exploring four other countries across the Middle East ( UAE ,  Qatar ,  Kuwait  and  Bahrain ). We spent the first three nights based in  Muscat   from where we were perfectly positioned to explore Oman's northern coast, including time in the city, a  hike into Wadi Shab followed by a cool down in the  Bimmah Sinkhole and a day trip to snorkel the  Daymaniyat Islands .

We were planning one more night in Muscat at the end of our trip, so with that it was time to bid farewell to Oman's gorgeous coastline and head south deep into the Omani desert. Bound for the Wahiba Sands, the country's most famous desert, stretching more than 12,000 square kilometres, we blasted the air conditioning in the 46° heat and drove along the pristine highways, singing to roadtrip playlists and fuelled by mango banana smoothies from little roadside cafes.

The Wahiba Sands are an exquisite gem in the heart of Oman, named for the Bani Wahiba tribe of the region. While you should avoid visiting between June and September as it's simply far too scorchingly hot, a night under the stars is a must-do on your trip to this stunning country.

Where to Stay in the Wahiba Sands

There are a number of desert camps in the Wahiba Sands. We researched the two most popular ones - Thousand Nights and Desert Nights - and ultimately settled on the idyllic Desert Nights Camp, home to those well known white aesthetic desert tents which really bring glamping to a whole new level.

There's a few different accommodation options, depending on your price point, which normally includes breakfast and dinner buffets. There are some free activities (like sunset dune rides) and then a whole host of paid experiences which you can choose to take part in (we did the sunrise dune trip - but there's plenty more for thrill seekers, if you've got deeper pockets!).

I have to say, waking up at 4am in the middle of the Omani desert to bash up into the dunes to watch the sunrise and then come home to our villa to find a herd of camels outside our door ranks highly as probably one of the coolest mornings I’ve ever had. I can highly recommend the Desert Nights Camp for a night in the Omani desert.

How to Get to Desert Nights Camp in Wahiba Sands

Desert Nights Camp is near Bidiyah, in central northern Oman - check out the exact Google Maps location of Desert Nights Camp here . The camp is a two hour drive southeast of Muscat. If your rental car has 4-wheel drive, then you might be prepared to make the final 11km trek across the dunes yourself, however, if you're like us (and get stuck in the first two minutes of turning off the highway), you can park your car at the gas station  here - run by the nicest people - and pre-arrange (or call in a desperate last minute panic using the gas station owner's cell phone) Ahmed to come and collect you and expertly drive you the final stretch across the dunes to the camp. If you're lucky, you'll spot your first desert camels along the way. The drive in is an incredible first look at this otherworldly landscape.

Sunset Dune Tour at Desert Nights Camp

We spent 24 hours in the desert, enjoying the quiet and feeling tiny and isolated in the middle of this vast desert. As I mentioned above, there's loads of paid activities you can partake it (we got a taste of the dune bashing during our sunrise trip which was adrenaline-pumping to say the least). We booked both the sunset and the sunrise dune tours and were greeted with pristine conditions, mindblowing views and camels making their ways slowly across the rolling sand.

The daily sunset dune tour was included as part of our package and so we bundled into Ahmed's trusty four-wheel drive and drove nearly vertically up and across the rich orange sand all the way up the dunes to a perfect viewpoint over the idyllic white tents of the Desert Nights Camp, from where we got to watch the sun dip below the horizon on a hot and balmy summer evening.

Sunrise Dune Tour at Desert Nights Camp

The sunrise tour was a paid option and saw us waking up bleary-eyed at 4am to greet Ahmed and our other sunrise-goers for a hair-raising drive even deeper into the Omani desert, out of sight of the camp and literally into the middle of nowhere. We sat patiently scattered across the dunes, waiting for the sun to poke above the horizon and witnessed possibly the greatest morning golden hour of my life.

Camels at Desert Nights Camp

After our sunrise tour, we stopped in for our buffet breakfast and then as we were walking back to our little white tent, we were greeted with a whole pack of camels right outside our hut - it was beyond magic.

FANJA PHOTO STOP – WAHIBA SAND DESERT – BEDOUIN HOUSE – WADI BANI KHALID

We depart early from Muscat heading towards the Sharqiyah region. On the way, we make a short photo stop at the quaint little village of Fanja, then we drive towards to the famous Wahiba Sands Desert, where you drive off road and see stretches after stretches of pure sand and endless towering sand dunes. Here you will get to appreciate and experience the real feel and magic of the Omani desert. We have the chance to visit a traditional Bedouin house where we can try Omani coffee and dates (depending on availability), also you can ride Camel and drive to the dunes and take lots of photos. After this desert adventure. Then we continue our journey to Wadi Bani Khalid. This is one of the biggest and most beautiful wadis that Oman is famous for. The wadi canyon is impressive, with its amazing steep walls and breathtaking crystal-clear water pools it is awesome to look at on its own. However, one can also enjoy a swim in the relaxing cool freshwater pool or just sunbathe. The wadi is so grand that you can even have the chance to walk deeper right into the wadi itself or maybe visit its hidden caves you also can have lunch there in local Omani restaurant.
