Kendrick Lamar Announces Australian Tour For December 2022

While Kendrick Lamar’s new album, Mr Morale & The Big Steppers , is still front-of-mind for music fans the world over – considering it was released just a few days ago – now’s a good a time as any to reveal the Compton emcee has plans to tour Australia before the year is over. As part of a larger Kendrick Lamar tour pretty much hopping around every city in the US, the rapper is planning to pop down under for arena shows in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne with his cousin Baby Keem as a support act along with close collaborator Tanna Leone who will also join for some of the dates.

With his new album currently being dissected just about everywhere online, including the self-righteous not-woke-enough lambasting he has received for deeply personal track ‘Auntie Diaries,’ The Big Steppers tour is pretty much guaranteed to sell out fast. Fortunately, Live Nation is giving you a generous enough cushion to get the lads in line before tickets actually go on sale. You’ve got a few days before presale tickets go on sale from 1 pm on Thursday 19th May and the general sale is set for midday on Friday 20th May.

Lamar will be returning to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on December 8th, a week after he kicks off the Australian tour at Perth’s RAC Arena on December 1st and a few days after he lands in Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on December 4th. After that, it’s off to play Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre on December 12th before heading off to New Zealand for a show in Auckland on December 16th.

Kendrick Lamar announces Australian tour for December 2022

Kendrick Lamar will return to Australia for the first time in four years this December, touring new album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

Grammy-winning US rapper Kendrick Lamar is returning to Australia in December for the first time since headlining Splendour in the Grass in 2018.

In a huge overnight announcement, it was confirmed Lamar will perform at Perth’s RAC Arena on December 1, Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on December 4, Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena December 8 and Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre December 12, before heading to New Zealand for a show in Auckland on December 16.

The rapper will be joined by his cousin and protégé, Baby Keem. Presale tickets are available from 1pm on Thursday, May 19, with general admission tickets up for grabs Friday, May 20.

Lamar’s long-awaited follow-up to acclaimed album Damn. , Mr Morale & the Big Steppers , dropped amid much social media buzz on Friday afternoon.

Fans were whipped into a frenzy last month over the official announcement of his fifth studio album, which features several notable collaborators including Portishead’s Beth Gibbons, Summer Walker, Ghostface Killah, Thundercat, Baby Keem, Sampha and Kodak Black.

His last album, Damn. , was released in April 2017.

The artist has kept busy between records, appearing on songs by Busta Rhymes, Terrace Martin, Sir, and Anderson. Paak. He also produced and curated Black Panther: The Album , the soundtrack to Ryan Coogler’s Marvel blockbuster, and released four Grammy-nominated track All the Stars with SZA.

And in February this year, the 14-time Grammy Award winner made an appearance at the epic Super Bowl halftime show among the ensemble line-up of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.

Kendrick Lamar has updated the itinerary for the Australian leg of his ‘Big Steppers’ world tour – which will mark the rapper’s first time performing Down Under in over four years – adding second shows in Melbourne (Naarm) and Sydney (Gadigal Land).

General access tickets for the stint’s original four dates have not yet gone on sale – they’ll go live here at 12pm local time tomorrow (May 20) – however a presale kicked off at 11am this morning (May 19), and was almost immediately exhausted in all cities.

In response to the demand, Lamar will follow his previously announced Melbourne gig on Sunday December 4 at Rod Laver Arena with a second one the following night (December 5). In Sydney, fans will now be able to catch him perform at Qudos Bank Arena on Thursday December 8 and Friday 9.

The new dates join sole gigs in Perth (Whadjuk Noongar) and Brisbane (Meanjin), where Lamar will respectively take to the stage at RAC Arena on December 1, and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on December 12. Joining him for all dates will be cousin Baby Keem and Tanna Leone.

The latter is a recent signing to Lamar’s pgLang imprint , who also features on the track ‘Mr. Morale’ from his recently-released ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ album .

His fifth studio album, following 2017’s Pulitzer-winning ‘DAMN.’ , was released last Friday (May 13) via pgLang, Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath and Interscope. The day after it dropped, Lamar shared a video for the track ‘N95’ . It was directed by Lamar himself, alongside longtime business partner Dave Free.

NME gave ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ a five-star review , with Kyann-Sian Williams calling it “a record outlining the Black plight” which was “created for [Lamar’s] community”. It’s with this in mind, Williams continued, that LP5 is “one of the deepest cuts we’ve had from Kendrick”.

She continued: “While ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ showed the world what it’s like to grow up as a kid in Compton, his fifth album serves up vignettes about what it’s like to be a Black adult whose trauma still haunts them. In laying his soul bare, he hopes we realise how we can set ourselves free from generational curses too. This album is as much about struggle as it is freedom, and what a beautiful sentiment that is.”

The 65-date trek will see Lamar touring North America first, starting with Oklahoma City’s Paycom Center on July 19, and making stops in Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver and more before the leg’s conclusion on Sept. 15 at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. The second leg of The Big Steppers Tour will commence three weeks later in Europe at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on Oct. 7, before concluding at Auckland’s Spark Arena in New Zealand on Dec. 16.

Kendrick Lamar has announced he's touring Australia in July.

The Damn tour – supporting his critically acclaimed, best-selling fourth album – begins in Perth and wraps up in Sydney after shows in Melbourne and Adelaide. The Compton, California, rapper last toured Australia in 2016. He's also headlining Splendour in the Grass in July.

Tickets for his arena shows go on sale this Monday 30 April.

Lamar has already taken the Damn Tour across Europe and the UK.

Perth: Perth Arena, Tuesday July 10 (Tickets go on sale 2pm on Monday April 30)

Melbourne: Rod Laver Arena, Friday July 13 (Tickets go on sale 1pm on Monday April 30)

Adelaide: Entertainment Centre, Sunday July 15 (Tickets go on sale 3pm on Monday April 30)

Sydney: Qudos Bank Arena, Tuesday July 24 (Tickets go on sale 12pm on Monday April 30)

Arguably the most important rap figure of his generation, Kendrick Lamar is back in the country. 

Last night (1 December) he kicked off the Australian leg of his worldwide The Big Steppers tour , delivering the unique rap spectacle you didn't know you needed. 

If you want to go in fresh, better bounce now and return when you've taken in King Kendrick's performance for yourself.

The almost 15,000 strong Perth crowd chants, " Kendrick, Kendrick, Kendrick! " It gets louder as objects appear from a surprise trapdoor directly in the middle of the arena connected by a stretch of walkway to the main stage.

One after another, dancers emerge and walk in sync back towards a hanging white curtain.

The curtain rises, and he snaps into focus. Mr. Morale has landed, wearing a baby Kendrick Lamar doll strapped to his front, like he's Alan in The Hangover .

If you thought the Black Friday chaos was intense, this crowd went absolutely berserk as the lights snapped on to reveal Kendrick sitting there at his piano.

Fittingly, he opens the show with the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers opener 'United in Grief'. Kendrick plays into it like you've never seen before, letting the crowd take verses and choruses more than we've seen in the past.

His last Australian tour  feels like a million years ago in comparison to this theatrical performance. Without even acknowledging the crowd, he moves into 'N95'.

At the moment you wonder if he's going to run through his new album from front to back, he throws the curveball you've been waiting for, 'ELEMENT.' from 2017's Hottest 100 dominating   DAMN . album.

Unlike virtually every other live rapper, K.Dot causes you to feel chaos while he acts completely pensive and in control.

He doesn't jump from side to side, waving a sweat towel. There's no ' put your hands up! ', he rarely raised his voice. He doesn't need to.

All of a sudden he's back to Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers , breaking into track three, 'Worldwide Steppers', with a particularly loud crowd scream at the point he raps ' Was out in Copenhagen, good kid m.A.A.d. city tour. '

Playing with shadows

Throughout the show, Kendrick's silhouette is projected onto the screens at the back of the stage. At first glance one might believe it's a live camera. You'd be mistaken.

Kendrick moves along, nearly flawlessly, with a previously filmed silhouette of himself, with the harsh addition of arrows in his back or a flock of birds flying into the night sky.

He then checks the city – ' Perth, Australia how you doing out there? Make some noise '.

If you feel on edge at times, you're not alone. Dancers come and go, used sparingly to accent particular moments, moving violently.

At points they seem threatening. The first time we witness the troupe, they encroach menacingly close around Kendrick during 'HUMBLE.'.

The crowd, probably still buzzing from the morning's World Cup win, often breaks out into football chants. 

'Ohhhh Kendrick Lamar, Ohhhh Kendrick Lamar'  they cheer. And of course, the audience siezes the chance to recreate the British ' Kendrick's in a box!'  chant  that circulated online. 

A balance of his biggest songs

Kendrick doesn't rest on his laurels for his Australia tour, changing up the setlist from his recent Europe and US shows, adding a medley of hits smack bang in the middle of the show.

In what seems like 10 minutes, he races through 'King Kunta', 'LOYALTY.', 'Swimming Pools' and 'Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe'. You're hearing old K.Dot but seeing a more composed and in control Kendrick.

'Backseat Freestyle', 'HUMBLE.' and 'Money Trees' all returned massive crowd response as well. A testament to the Compton artist's hit ratio.

By now there's an agreement between the crowd and Lamar of which new songs are garnering an immediate reaction.

'Die Hard' and 'Count Me Out' were winners, and enjoyed more than some of his older hits, with a refreshing feeling to them.

Then the moment you've been waiting for, his 2015 anthem 'Alright' and it was almost like the crowd knew it was coming.

The performance takes us back to the pandemic, rapping inside a clear plastic tent surrounded by guards wearing PPE suits.

How thankful we are to be out of that time, standing side by side yelling at the top of our voices. The song concludes with a voiceover saying, "Mr. Morale, you have been contaminated."

Cue a shift, and Lamar does something that daringly goes against the grain of hip hop performance. He gears the pacing of the show down, with 'Mirror' and 'Silent Hill. But the theatrics don't stop as the platform he stands on raises high into the air.

Having sprinkled his biggest songs evenly throughout, Kendrick arrives at the tail end of the show. And it never feels like he's looking back at what got him to this point in his career, no mention of ' This is for my day ones '. Just letting his music do the talking.

Support acts Tanna Leone and Kendrick's cousin Baby Keem return to the stage for a jacked up 'Mr. Morale' and 'family ties'.

The horns intro of the latter provokes wild reactions - a reminder that solo Baby Keem slaps - as teens lose their shit and nearly tumble down on each other. 

In the court of King Kendrick

Kendrick makes a conscious decision to conclude the show the same way he starts: with a powerful ode from Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers .

He boldly begins winding up the night with the downbeat 'Crown', but you could tell from the calm in the crowd that it was one of the most powerful moments of the evening.

Large square lights lower from the ceiling, looming over Lamar as he sings ' You can't please everybody '.

He's letting us into his mindset while penning his comeback album , frustrated by expectations to elevate, to excel past all rap competitors. It's a reminder that with great fame, comes heavy expectations.

From there he delivers his final song 'Savior'. The dancers are offstage and we find him sitting at the piano — exactly where he started.

The platform on which he sits lowers beneath the stage, the lights go black, the house lights come up. Just like that, it's over.

The performance was sometimes confusing, always intricate, and as beautiful as the album it serves.

Kendrick Lamar is a rapper born on the 17th of June 1987 in Compton, California, USA. Since the release of his mixtape “Overly Dedicated”, and his second album “good kid, m.A.A.d city”, he has proved himself to be one of the most exciting, critically acclaimed rappers of his generation.

Kendrick Lamar founded the hip-hop supergroup, Black Hippy, in 2009, with the artists Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and ScHoolboy Q. That same year, he began using his first and middle names with the release of his self-titled debut EP. In 2010, he released his fourth solo mixtape, Overly Dedicated.

Following the release of Overly Dedicated, Lamar began working on his first studio album. Section.80 dropped in 2011, debuting at number 113 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album was met with many positive reviews, and Kendrick’s star began to rise.

In 2012, Kendrick Lamar signed a record deal with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. That October, he released his first major-label album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, a concept album telling the story of the rapper’s early life experiences with drugs and gangs in Compton. The album was a breakout success, producing five single which of which achieved success on the charts and earning Lamar four GRAMMY® Award nominations. In 2013, Kendrick Lamar set out on a world tour to promote the album with the other members of Black Hippy.

By the time Kendrick Lamar released his third studio album, he was already a household name. In 2015, To Pimp a Butterfly debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, Lamar’s first album to do so. It received mass critical acclaim and was nominated for seven GRAMMY® Awards. Kendrick Lamar took home two wins, including Best Rap Album and Album of the Year.

Kendrick Lamar also enjoyed his first number-one single in 2015. His hip-hop remix of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

After the release of To Pimp a Butterfly, Lamar’s profile soared. His fourth studio album, DAMN., dropped in 2017, producing his second number-one single, “HUMBLE.” The song not only topped the charts, it won Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video at the 2018 Grammy Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Music.

Following the success of “DAMN.,” Lamar moved onto his first movie project: a curated soundtrack for Marvel’s Black Panther. Black Panther: The Album, released in 2018, included a wide range of Black artists including Future, SZA, Vince Staples, Travis Scott, and The Weeknd, with Lamar himself performing on five of the 14 tracks.

After launching a multimedia company in 2020, Kendrick Lamar returned to music with his fifth studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Released in 2022, the double album would be his final project with Top Dawg Entertainment. Debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, it became the rapper’s fourth number-one album. On Apple Music, the album garnered over 60 million streams in its first day. It also became the first hip-hop album in 2022 to reach one billion streams on Spotify.

To date, Kendrick Lamar has sold over 70 million records in the US, and every one of his studio albums has been certified platinum by the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA). The rapper also has 14 Grammy Awards, 11 MTV Video Music Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize to his name. This phenomenal success solidifies his status as one of the most influential hip-hop artists of all time.

Live reviews

An all around great show. Dram and YG were impressive opening acts, even tho the crowd was a bit dead until Kendrick showed up. YG played "Fuck Donald Trump" which was preceded by a Trump impersonator and was genuinely really surprising and hilarious. Once Kendrick showed up, every seat was filled, it was chaotic, and there was a hell of a lot of screaming. Right before he ascended onto the stage from the little platform in the middle of the stage- which was exactly on time, I should add- there was a really cool showing of this ninja performance, as well as a story-like, cinematic, short where he battled someone, and funny title screens showed up from time to time saying phrases like "KENDRICK FUCKS SHIT UP". Similar clips were shown sporadically throughout the show so the crowd wouldn't get bored as they prepared for different parts of the act. It was cool when he got raised on this platform in the middle of the arena to perform "Money Tree", but the most beautiful part of the show was definitely when he played "LOVE." and just about every person had their phone's flashlights on, swaying side to side, chanting, "love me." It was stunning. Probably the wildest time, for me, was when he played "Alright," near the end. That song is really emotional for me, and seeing him play it live was magnificent. Not to mention how, just like with every other song, so many other people were shouting the lyrics, words for word. Afterwards, there was "HUMBLE." which Kendrick made the crowd sing the entirety of. It was then played a second time, where he sung along, and then descended back underneath the stage. Lots of people thought it was over, but some friends and I had checked the set-list and knew to stay put. Soon enough, he was right back on stage, and played the final song, "GOD." It wasn't quite as strong of a finish as 'HUMBLE." but was nonetheless an undoubtedly great song. If I could, I would experience it all over again, minus the ear ringing that lasted until the middle of the next day, a near loss of voice, and needing to skip the next day of school. Another highlight was seeing the uncomfortable white parents who brought their kids. It was amusing to watch them try to dance, shout-out to those guys. One dad brought this, like, eight year old kid who covered her ears when we screamed (understandable considering how ear-piercing it was, but still), and sat down except for when "HUMBLE." was playing. The dad was on his phone the entire time, though. It was amusing, the concert as a whole was unbelievably fun, I hope anyone who gets to see Kung Fu Kenny at some point has a hell of a good time. Heads up: they may not have the merch you want in your size or even at all, but they have other things that are just as good. Also, eat before you go, the lines are crazy long and the food way is too expensive. Anyway, have a blast, don't say the n-word if you're not black. Thank you.

Amazing performance by Kendrick. His energy was great and he interacted with the sold out crowd making eye contact and listening to their screams and yells every chance he got.

Started off by teasing the crowd going back and forth to the mic and eventually starting with For Free, spitting bar after bar.

Best moment of the show was Alright / M.A.A.D City and definitely finishing with ADHD after he gauged the audiences reactions to him calling out all his albums he could see Section.80 was big for the crowd.

After he noticed a small group of people in the front row rapping a song from Untitled Unmastered we all started calling out songs to do from the album. Calling out “2” and “7” putting our fingers up as Kendrick looked at us contemplating whether he should do it for a good minute. A chant broke out for “We Gon’ Be Alright’ and then he played “Alright”. A part of me still thinks if they didn’t start chanting that he would’ve gone into one of the songs.

Only critique was the sound. From the front row the vocals were heavily drowning out by the live instrumentals so much so it took me 20-30 seconds before realising what song it was sometimes. Not all songs, ADHD was the most easily heard because they didn’t use as much heavy instrumentation. But the problem wasn’t throughout the whole stadium as I talked to those in seats they couldn’t relate to it sounding like that.

It was disappointing not to see there wasn’t an emphasis on visual display for his Australia tour like previous performances in the US, but it seemed like it was just about Kendrick, his band and straight music.

Also, never seen so many people have to be carried out by security guards over the barrier because they were hurt/passing out. Also saw one big guy walk being escorted through the barrier with half his face covered in blood from the corner of his eye. Kendrick fans don’t play.

He ended up finishing with ‘I Am’ off his Kendrick Lamar EP which is above.

I saw Kendrick Lamar on day two of Lollapalooza last summer. This was probably one of the craziest concerts I've been to, but I loved every minute of it! There was a special opportunity to meet the man himself before his concert, but my friends and I did not get there in time. The only other way to meet him was to each pay for a CD. We ended up deciding to wait for the concert that was going on before Kendrick to finish then try to get good spots. We thought the crowd would disperse after that concert, so it would be pretty easy to get close to the front. But, boy, were we wrong. Either everyone was thinking the same thing as us, or the crowd was staying for Kendrick - it was the most claustrophobic, sweaty, aggressive struggle to the front of the crowd I've ever experienced. My friends and I were forced to stand smushed against random people for forty minutes. I don't even know how we made it to a couple of rows from the front, but we eventually did.

After what seemed to be like the longest, stuffiest forty minutes of my life, Kendrick finally came on. He started out with "Fucking Problems," and the crowd went CRAZY! We were nonstop jostling the whole time. Kendrick is so on point live! Even though I was taken aback at first by how his voice did not sound the same as his audio tracks, he still was amazing. He challenged us to see if we all could keep up with him when he rapped. He knew how to keep the energy up the whole time. One of the most memorable moments in Kendrick's show was when he completely stopped in the middle of a song and pointed out to a spot in the crowd where a man in a wheelchair was crowd surfing. Kendrick commended the people that helped the man surf through the crowd while he was passed to the front over the crowd. It was a really cool moment to witness. Only places like Lolla would something like that happen, and I'm happy that I could see Kendrick how I did, all the craziness included.

I have always been an avid fan of Kendrick Lamar ever since his album "Section .80". He just has a way to capture your emotions because he raps the truth. As much as that sounds really corny, I think one would understand where I'm coming from if you saw him live. I had the privilege to see Kendrick Lamar front row at Fuji Rock Festival 2013 last summer. I'm not sure if this is the case for many of his shows but he came on a little later than expected. Despite that, he really pulled a great show and tried his best to make up for the time lost although he could've sung more if he came on earlier. Anyways, regardless I think what made Kendrick special was that other than lighting, some fog, and a few guys playing the beats for his songs with guitars and drums, it was really just him standing alone on stage rapping. I remember standing out and just really feeling the vibes while Kendrick stood in the spotlight surrounded by this dim purple lighting, melodically rapping and being slowly creeped on by some fog on a chilly summer night up in the mountains. It was actually quite mystical. Many Japanese fans seemed to love "Backseat Freestyle" and "Money Trees", as I felt more pushing from the crowd during those songs. Of course he also rapped "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe", "The Recipe", "Swimming Pools", and his best songs in "good kid, mad city". One surprise during this concert was he also rapped "Fucking Problems" which was a huge hit for everyone and that was lots of fun. The concert was overall so good and worth being pushed around while I clung onto my spot in the front because Kendrick blew a kiss at my direction after I yelled out his name!

Overall I left the show pretty happy and satisfied, thought there were a few problems. To get the negatives out of the way, Travis Scott, one of the openers set to perform, didn't. The entire concert was interrupted with an intermission over an hour long due to Travis's absence, which really halted the momentum of the event. Another negative was that they played SZA's latest album "Ctrl" around 3 times in full between the opening set up and various intermissions. Even if you love this album, hearing the same songs repeatedly can get old quick. I would have much preferred if they mixed it up a bit, and at least play music from other TDE artist in addition to SZA's album.

Besides that the show was great though. DRAM did a pretty nice job with his brief set. He sounded great live, very close to how he sounds in his recordings, and the images he had flashing behind him created a fun atmosphere.

And once Kendrick came out and performed, it was fantastic. He performed a variety of songs, mainly from DAMN. as well as a few off of GKMC, TPAB, and UU. He was energetic throughout the performance, constantly moving, and engaged the audience, encouraging a hype atmosphere. The best part was easily during humble, when the crowd finished out one of the verses and the chorus together; it was truly communal. Due to our excitement Kendrick performed an encore with the song YAH.

Overall I'd recommend going to the concert if you're a fan of Kendrick Lamar, or hip-hop shows in general. I had a great time, even with some gripes, and would gladly experience it again.

The DAMN tour took us through the Kung Fu Kenny journey with amazing video graphics during short intermissions between songs as intros and gave enough storyline to the attendees to be enraptured by this and gas the whole crowd up for each moment!

It’s hard to pin one moment down but when the whole crowd started singing Humble twice over without the help of Kendrick for then him to come out and say this has got to be the best show yet.... man, I had goosebumps and was ready to stomp.

Kenrick Lamar is considered to be one of the most exciting new artists on the US hip hop scene. He has amassed a cult following over the years and now with new support on both sides of the pond, Lamar is packing out venues and festival tents at a staggering rate.

Rapturous cheers go up as Kendrick confidently appears onstage and takes the whole scene within his stride as the bass pierces the crowd and he begins 'Money Trees'. His freestyle ability demonstrates just why he has so much critical acclaim, he is undoubtedly a talented rap artist.

Breakthrough single 'Swimming Pools' gets a deafening reaction as it has become a cult hit over a relatively short amount of time. Kendrick capitalises on this as he invites the audiences into a back and forth of 'Pass Out... Drank'. 'Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe' also goes down incredibly well, the audience seemingly knowing every rap and verse. He reappears for 'A.D.H.D' visibly happy with the set and the crowd, it will be interesting to see where he will take his sound and show next.

I was sitting in the front on a chiar and once travis scott came up, he called everyone next to the stage and the crowd went crazy and it was chaotic. Everyone from the back seats came all the way to the front and everyone climbed on the chairs and it was hard to see anything. The security tried to get people back to their seats but they did not suceed. I thought it was unfair because i paid a lot of money to stay in front and the ones who had their seats in the back got to pay less but still get to stay in the very front. Also, everyone was high and drunk. The guy in front of me fell off his chair and spilled a whole cup of beer all over me and the 3 people next to me. I do not recommend paying for a seat right in front of the stage because everyone from behind will come in front anyways. Overall, the concert was not well organized since the secrity could not get people to their seats, but, the actual performance by kendrick lamar was a good one and he was able to keep everyone entertained.

Kendrick lamar announces four australian stadium shows.

After stopping at Splendour, Kendrick will take his DAMN. album tour to Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

UPDATE: APRIL 30, 2018 — In news that is really not that surprising, Kendrick's Melbourne and Sydney shows sold out in less than an hour this morning. To meet demand, two more shows have been added — one in Melbourne on July 14 and one in Sydney on July 25. Tickets go on sale at 2pm today, and will no doubt sell out as quickly as the first batch.

We had a feeling this might happen. Off the back of an appearance at an  already sold-out Splendour in the Grass , Kendrick Lamar will also headline four Australian shows in support of his fourth album DAMN. .

Lamar is one of the most critically acclaimed and successful hip hop artists of our generation. The Compton rapper most recently became the first ever artist to take out the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for contemporary music. He's also the beholder of 12 Grammys, has clocked up more than six million album sales worldwide, and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine .

Lamar will return to our shores for Splendour on the weekend of July 20–22 and four headline shows: one in Perth on July 10, one in Melbourne on July 13, one in Adelaide on July 15 and one in Sydney on July 24.

Having recently taken the DAMN. tour across the UK and Europe, set lists included his extensive catalogue, including good kid, m.A.A.d city (2012) , To Pimp A Butterfly (2015) and his most recent effort DAMN. .

Drake’s famous NBA buddy banned Kendrick Lamar diss song from swanky party

Kendrick Lamar’s chart-topping single “Not Like Us” has been inescapable over the course of the summer. But one key sports figure made sure to cultivate a space where the Drake -aimed diss track was banned.

Back in July, Fanatics founder and CEO Michael Rubin held his annual all-white party . Though Drake has been laying low for much of the summer, he was in attendance for the party — which happened to take place the same day the “Not Like Us” video was released. Pictures surfaced online of Drake at the party, which led people to wonder if Rubin had implemented a ban on the biggest song of the summer from being in rotation.

In an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” Rubin confirmed that he did, in fact, instruct the DJ not to play “Not Like Us.”

​​“It was true,” Rubin said. “Drake‘s my friend for a long time. I’m not gonna invite him and then have–look, he’s obviously going through a little bit of a battle right now…I just didn’t think it was appropriate, so I just sent a note. I said ‘Hey, let’s not play anyone’s music that’s feuding with anyone that’s there.'”

While the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef is one of the biggest hip-hop rivalries in recent memory, the feud has carried over into the sports world as well. Sacramento Kings power forward DeMar DeRozan appeared in the video , but later said he still has love for Drake, and that his cameo in the video was all in good fun.

At the ESPYs, Serena Williams showed love to her hometown hero Lamar, noting that Toronto Raptors fans would “Forrest Gump him” if he ever showed up to a game.

In a viral video taken from the Team USA men’s basketball practice sessions, Steph Curry expressed frustration over having heard the song so many times, while LeBron James said that he loves the song.

While the feud has seemingly died down, watching it unfold was almost as intriguing as the NBA Finals or even the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Almost.

Kendrick Lamar ‘s “ Not Like Us ” music video dropping on July 4 was a moment, largely because rap rival Drake was at Michael Rubin ‘s annual All-White Party with other rappers and celebrities that same day. The Fanatics owner has now confirmed that he did not allow DJs to play the song out of consideration of his friend.

DJ Envy asked Michael Rubin about the viral photos of Drake looking exhausted at the party, with Rubin clearing up rumors about that, as well. “He had a great time,” the former Philadelphia 76ers minority stake owner said. “Someone just said something to me about social media: ‘You’ve got to be built for social media. You’ve got to be tough. You’ve got to take sh*t from people.’ […] Look, Drake is an iconic artist that we all have tremendous respect for. What I said to Drake, and I really believe this, is this is a great test for him. You can’t get to where he’s got to and not have people coming for you.”

Rubin admitted that he sleeps with one eye open and acknowledged that success comes with hatred. “He’s going to come out with lots of incredible music and people are gonna say ‘That’s why Drake is Drake,” he claimed. Latto Announces 2024 Headlining 'Sugar Honey Iced Tea' Tour Across North America — See the Dates!

Attention Latto fans: Big Mama is hitting the road this year!

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Grammy-nominated rapper, 25, announced her Sugar Honey Iced Tea tour in support of her latest studio album, which arrived on Aug. 9. This marks her first-ever headlining run across North America.

According to a press release, the Live Nation-produced tour will hit 22 cities this fall, starting in Tampa, Fla., on Oct 25 before making stops in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Toronto, Detroit, Las Vegas and more. The rapper's run of shows will conclude on Dec. 7 in Denver.

Special guests Mariah The Scientist and Karrahbooo will join Latto for her tour run. Tickets for the general public go on sale at 10 a.m. local time on Friday, Aug. 16, at BigLatto.com .

Latto's Sugar Honey Iced Tea tour follows the release of her third studio album, an ode to her Georgia roots that features fellow Southern artists like Megan Thee Stallion , Ciara , Coco Jones , Young Nudy, Flo Milli , Teezo Touchdown and more.

The "Big Mama" rapper opened up about what inspired her album's title in her Billboard cover story earlier this summer, saying, "When I met [producers] Pooh [Beatz] and [Go] Grizz[ly] and locked in with them, everything just felt Southern ."

"One day, shortly after we cut 'Put It on Da Floor,' I just walked in the studio like, '"Sugar Honey Iced Tea" is the name of the album,'" she added. "People be trying to be messy and thinking it’s a response to something. I promise you, this is before any of that s---. This is something that just felt Southern to me. Where I’m from, we be like, 'I’m the sugar honey iced tea!'"

Latto's been on a bit of a run this year, kicking things off with her second album single, "Sunday Service," in February. In June, she performed at the 2024 BET Award s and snagged two nominations from the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards this month for her "Seven" collaboration with BTS ' Jung Kook .

Days after her album arrived, on Aug. 13, Latto dropped a bonus track titled " Chicken Grease ," a flip on T.I. 's 2003 hit "24's," which she previewed in her Sugar Honey Iced Tea trailer (which also starred the latter). The track is already a fan favorite that concert-goers hope to hear on Latto's tour this fall.

Drake appears to respond to Kendrick Lamar diss during J Cole tour

Drake seemingly responded to fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar’s swipe in a recent track, during a live performance while on his It’s All a Blur co-headline tour with J Cole.

Rumours of a feud between Drake and Lamar have simmered for years, with the To Pimp a Butterfly star adding fuel to the fire last week with his guest verse on “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin.

Lamar’s lyrics seemed to directly respond to Drake’s 2023 track “First Person Shooter", on which Cole raps: “Love when they argue the hardest MC / Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? / We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.”

K-Dot is a nickname given to Lamar, while Drake’s birth name is Aubrey Drake Graham.

On “Like That”, Lamar appeared to dismiss Cole’s suggestion that they were on the same level as artists: “Motherf*** the big three, n***a, it’s just big me,” he rapped. “N***a, bum, what? I’m really like that / And your best work is a light pack.”

Meanwhile, as Drake compared his commercial success to that of Michael Jackson, Lamar referenced the historic beef between the King of Pop and Prince during the Eighties: “N***a, Prince outlived Mike Jack.”

“A lot of people asking me how I’m feeling… listen, the way I’m feeling is the same way I want you to walk out of here feeling tonight about your f***ing self,” Drake told his audience, footage shared to social media on 25 March shows.

“Because you know how I’m feeling? I got my head up high, my back straight, I’m 10 f***ing toes down… and feeling like anywhere else I go… and I know no matter what, there’s not a n**** on this Earth that can ever f*** with me in my life,” he shouted. “And that’s how I want y’all to walk out of here tonight…”

“But,” he continued, “you know, you can get yourselves gassed up, riled up and move towards the future… Sometimes you’ve got to acknowledge the mistakes you’ve made in the past… right? So that’s what I want you all to do. Everybody in here.”

While fans could be heard cheering as Drake made his speech, other hip-hop fans felt that the “One Dance” artist would be better served responding to Lamar with another track.

“He needs to lock in and get his ass to the studio,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter.

“I’m sorry Drake but you going to have to say something to this man Kendrick because speeches is not going to cut it,” another said.

In a two-star review of Drake’s 2023 album For All The Dogs , critic Nadine Smith wrote for The Independent : “Instead of chilling out and settling down as he approaches his forties, Drake’s new album For All the Dogs sees him acting up more than ever, in ways that frequently reek not just of insecurity, but outright misogyny.”
