Often addressed as the pride of Salcete, Colva at a distance of about 6 kms from Margao is amongst the best places to visit in South Goa. Loutolim- Revel in the charms of Portuguese architecture

Loutolim is an apt place to witness the legacy of Portuguese architecture. An unhurried village, Loutolim is a treasure trove for the history buffs; however, most of the edifices are closed for the tourists. The most popular places to visit here would be Casa Araujo Alvares and a whitewashed Church Salvador do Mundo. Loutolim is also known for its ancestral museum. BigFoot is yet another place of interest for the tourists, where you can touch the BigFoot mark on the rock and make a wish. Loutlim certainly have the caliber to take one into the glorious past of this region and one may do nothing but stand in awe after visiting this small yet majestic place in South Goa.

Mobor – Thrilling vibes and blissful solace

Mobor is renowned for offering beachside bliss. Situated quite close to the location where River Sal meets the Arabian Sea, Mobor is certainly a place to cherish. It is a romantic escape in South Goa and the heaven for solitude seekers. One would love to bask in the sun here without being interrupted by hawkers. Mollem – Jungle Safaris in A Historical Place

Mollem National Park, which spans an area of 240 square kilometres in the Western Ghats, is situated in Goa’s Sanguem Taluka, not far from the Karnataka border. One of the best places to explore in South Goa, the reserve also contains a number of temples from the Kadamba Dynasty. The Goa state capital, Panaji, is 60 kilometres to the southeast of the national park, which is situated close to the town of Mollem.

The park’s primary attraction is its jungle safaris. Vehicles are permitted inside the reserve, which enhances the pleasure of viewing the wildlife in comparison to other parks. The park’s hiking routes are also well-known. The Tambdi WaterFalls, Devil’s Canyon, Sunset Point, and the Tambdi Surla temple from the 12th century are a few of the park’s further attractions.

A large variety of birds, including the fairy bluebird, wagtails, three-toed kingfisher, drongo, golden oriole, and big Indian hornbill, can be seen in the national park. Some of the birds that can be found here are local residents. The area is home to a wide variety of butterflies, including the Blue Mormon, Crimson Rose, Tailed Jay, Malabar Tree Nymph, Tamil Yoeman, Plain Tiger, and Lime Butterfly and visiting South Goa cannot be completed without visiting this park.

I have visited South Goa over 20 times. To say I love it is an understatement. I find the place charming, picturesque and quintessentially Goan in all its ways. Its charm hasn’t reduced the way North Goa’s charm has due to overtourism. And yet, there is enough touristic infrastructure to help regular tourists have the best South Goa trip. A South Goa trip should be full of visits to the spectacular beaches, old forts, wildlife sanctuaries, aesthetic cafés, delicious restaurants, serene backwaters and scenic islands.

But to get the best out of your trip to South Goa, you need to plan it well. You need to break down your stay in a workable South Goa itinerary. Read this full post for all the details that you need to perfectly plan a South Goa trip.

South Goa – Map and Location

South Goa is to the South of Goa (duh!). It shares its border with Karnataka. It is bigger than North Goa. It is diverse as it has beaches, enormous wildlife sanctuaries, waterfalls and springs. Here is a Goa map to get you oriented

How to reach South Goa

The airport of Goa is located in Dabolim, Mormugao region of South Goa. It is the only airport in Goa and connects Goa to the rest of the country. That’s also why most major regions in South Goa are closer to the airport than those of North Goa.

Margaon is the major train station in South Goa.

Cancona, Vasco de Gama are also the other major train stations in Goa.

Get down at Margaon if you are staying between Majorda and Cavelossim. For Agonda and Palolem, see if you can get off at Cancona. But many trains do not halt at Cancona.

The main bus stand in South Goa is in Margaon – The Kadamba bus stand. It connects South Goa to various parts of Goa and the country. See schedule.

From here, you can take local buses to various locations in South Goa.

Where to stay in South Goa

The major areas where you will find touristic accommodation in South Goa are

• Colva – the most popular tourist hub in South Goa. It mainly attracts Indian tourists. It is a short drive away from Margaon.
• Benaulim – a lovely family and couple-friendly area in South Goa. It attracts both Indian and foreign tourists. It is also a short drive away from Margaon. 📍 The Azaya Beach Resort here is exquisite – the best beachside resort for families and couples with a fantastic pool for the perfect sundowner. • Palolem – a lovely town to the southern end of South Goa. It is very scenic and has lots of things to offer to tourists who love nature and beauty. It is a good base for families and couples but even more so for solo travellers who don’t mind visiting a few offbeat locations and staying at a hostel. 📍 The Lost Hostel in Palolem is the best – excellent staff, engaging on-site activities and very clean. South Goa Travel Tips

• It’s best to rent a vehicle for commuting within South Goa. The public transport system in Goa is not reliable at all for those visiting Goa on a tight time schedule.
• There are very few tourist areas in South Goa that are self-sufficient from a tourist’s point of view. Thus you won’t find a supermarket, medical store, grocery store, beauty salon, garment shop, foreign exchange store, vehicle rental or a tour operator in many South Goan areas. If quick access to these facilities is important to you – please stay in Colva, Benaulim or Palolem.
• South Goa has no real party places and the nightclubs in South Goa are not comparable in scale to the ones in North Goa. The silent noise party at Palolem has also stopped taking place in recent years. Do not rely on other articles on the internet recommending that as a party avenue.

• Many tourist spots in South Goa like Cabo de Rama, Cola Beach, Butterfly Island, Mollem Wildlife Sanctuary, and Dudhsagar Waterfalls get very deserted and dark at night. Avoid staying back in these regions as far as possible.
• Many beaches in South Goa like Agonda, Talpona and Galgibaga are turtle habitats and therefore subject to many restrictions. Respect the rules of visit at these beaches.
• If you plan to go on a day trip to North Goa , stay in the northern regions of South Goa like Majorda, Betalbatim, Colva and Benaulim. Avoid staying at Agonda or Palolem as the distance from these regions to North Goa is approximately 2.5 hrs one way making the day trip impracticable.
• Cabs to your accommodation would be available from the airport and Margaon train station without much difficulty. But hailing a cab from other locations is often difficult. Plan your commute whenever you visit such places.

Things to do in South Goa

Visit the spectacular South Goa Beaches

The beaches in South Goa are calm and blissful. Their natural beauty is also fairly intact as opposed to the bustling beaches of North Goa. Here are some of the beaches in South Goa that you could visit on your South Goa trip

• Palolem beach : clean, calm, vibey. Plenty of shacks and things to do in surrounding areas. Lots of boat ride options to nearby islands as well.
• Talpona/Galgibaga : Further south of Palolem. Known for their natural beauty and turtle nesting. Almost no shacks. Best for introverts or couples looking to escape the crowds.
• Agonda : Next to a cliff, scenic, calm, few shacks. Beautiful backwaters. (Choose any Agonda or Palolem as both have similar offerings. But Agonda has fewer tourists)
• Betul/Mobor/Cavelossim : Stunning whitish golden sand, flat and soft. Almost always deserted. Many luxury properties are nearby.
• Benaulim: Benaulim is one of the most family-friendly beaches in South Goa. Quite a few shacks and accommodation options are nearby. See my article on the best things to do in Benaulim here .
• Colva: One of the most crowded beaches of South Goa. Central, very touristy. Many properties in the nearby area. Close to Margaon.
• Majorda/Betalbatim: Deserted and scenic. Hardly any tourists visit these beaches. Betalbatim is also known to glow on certain nights.
• Cola Beach /Butterfly Beach /Cabo de Rama: Very remote, with improper access involving hiking, boat rides, etc. but breathtakingly beautiful

Get the best views from Cabo de Rama

I don’t think there is any other viewpoint in Goa that comes close to Cabo de Rama. Cabo de Rama is truly magical. The place is a flat land overlooking the South Goan coastline.

Vehicles can be taken right up to the viewpoint. But at the viewpoint itself, there isn’t much to do apart from taking in the jaw-dropping beauty of Goa.

• Appreciate the view, click lots of pictures
• Enjoy light snacks at a small shop near the viewpoint
• If you’re interested and if time permits, visit the fort nearby.

Avoid staying back after sunset in this area if you’re riding alone or with your partner on a two-wheeler. The road gets pretty dark.

Try out delectable food

You’ll find plenty of good eating places in South Goa. Here are a few must-try ones

• Fisherman’s Wharf, Cavelossim – Authentic South Goan food served in a restaurant with the best riverside views. Yummy all the way! But I also find it too commercial now. Expect a waiting period of about 30 minutes on weekends and during peak tourist season. But the food and the views are still very impressive.
• Mike’s place. Cavelossim : A simple tourist-friendly restaurant – excellent for a hearty breakfast or a filling lunch. On all of my visits here, the staff was very kind and there is ample seating area to accommodate enough guests.
• Roger’s, Benaulim : One of the best seaside shacks in South Goa, excellent for candlelight dinners as well. It is right at the entrance of Benaulim Beach.
• Goodfellas, Benaulim: The best wood-fired pizza in South Goa. I keep raving about it and ensure I visit it every time I am in Benaulim.
• Ciarans, Palolem: The kind of food you long for at the end of the day served right by the beach. The food is far tastier than most beach shacks around.
• Kinara, Cavelossim : Modest place serving authentic Goan food cooked with warmth. Excellent for a homely family lunch.
• Kopi Desa , Palolem : Filmy vibe, smashing food, best for hanging out with friends. I love the place for its vibe, the posters and the kick-ass food choices.

There are many more charming places to eat in South Goa that are spread out all over. The list above is just the tip of the iceberg.

Get lost in nature

South Goa is packed with natural beauty. There are countless opportunities to admire Goa’s flora and fauna.

A few that are a must-visit are

• Dudhsagar waterfalls
• Tambdi Surla temple and waterfalls + lots of surrounding beauty near Mollem
• Cola Beach for the lagoon
• Palolem and Agonda backwaters
• Sal river near Cavelossim
• Bondla Zoo + surrounding forest area (including it here since it now forms part of South Goa)
• Kesarval springs

Engage in memorable experiences

Simply visiting beautiful locations is not enough. To enhance the quality of your experience, you should also engage in activities that feel rewarding such as

Kayaking in South Goa is one of the most pleasant experiences. You can book a kayak at Agonda or Palolem and go kayaking in the sea or even in the river near Cavelossim. The river kayaking presents many bird-watching opportunities as well. You can book a tour in advance to avoid disappointment. ( See photos, details and availability here )

• Eagle-feeding

This unique experience is offered in the Palolem backwaters. Head early morning for the best experience.

• Island hopping

There are a few islands off the coasts of Agonda and Palolem that mesmerise with their heavenly charm. Visiting these islands on a single trip of a few hours is possible from either of the beaches, but you will get more options from Palolem Beach.

• Heritage tour

If you want to visit some of the finest examples of local Portuguese structures, you must take this South Goa heritage tour that takes you to the Figueiredo Mansion, Menezes Braganza House and other heritage gems of South Goa. ( See the tour details and availability here )

The many waterfalls in South Goa are also ideal trekking trails for those who enjoy trekking. You could go on a Dudhsagar trek, Tambdi Surla trek, and Netravali trek while in Goa.

It is best to hike in the late monsoon season when the rains subside but the greenery remains.

1 day in South Goa Itinerary

If you have just one day in South Goa, here’s what you should do

Plan to stay at Palolem/Agonda ( see best-rated options in Palolem and Agonda )

• Spend your morning on Palolem beach. Have breakfast in one of the shacks on the beach.
• Follow with a trip to the nearby islands or go kayaking in the backwaters
• For lunch, travel all the way to Benaulim and have lunch at Roger’s or Hideout. Relax on the beach here.

2 days in South Goa Itinerary

Follow 1 day in South Goa itinerary.

Day 2: Visit Dudhsagar falls and the spice plantation. It’s a full-day tour with lunch included.

3 days in South Goa Itinerary

Plan to stay at Benaulim ( see best-rated accommodations in Benaulim here – as stated earlier I love Azaya Beach Resort )

Day 1: Benaulim

If you have 3 days in Goa, it’s best to completely explore the magic in Benaulim for a full day.

Start with a breakfast at the German bakery , followed by lots of beach time. At the beach, you can have lunch at Roger’s or try out the delicious seafood at Johncy . Watch the sunset from the Southern Deck or have dinner at the best wood-fired pizza in town at Goodfellas .

Basically, spend a day chilling in the typical Goan susegaad (local word for laidback) style

Day 2: Palolem/Agonda

Start day 2 by going down south to the picturesque beaches.

Enroute make the following stops –

Quick Stop 1: Cavelossim Beach Quick Stop 2: Agonda Beach Brunch Stop: 📍 Kopi Desa near Palolem Beach

Once at the Palolem Beach, start by going on an Island boat trip.

Once you’re back, have a hearty meal at 📍 Ciarans .

For sunset, visit Cabo de Rama and after that, come back to Benaulim for dinner.

Day 3: Dudhsagar

Visit Dudhsagar falls and spice plantation. It’s a full day tour with lunch included at the Spice Plantation.

4 days in South Goa Itinerary

For the 4-day South Goa trip – follow the 3-day itinerary above.

Day 3: Dudhsagar/Spice plantations

Day 4: Temples and Museum

• Visit one of Goa’s oldest temples – Tambdi Surla or if you don’t want to travel that far, visit the Shantadurga temple

Finish these off in the first half of the day.

• For the second half, visit the Big Foot at Loutulim – a beautiful museum depicting the lifestyle of local Goans.

5 days in South Goa Itinerary

If you can visit South Goa for 5 or more days, your experience is going to be far richer than typical tourists spending a couple of days in South Goa. You will be able to relax, take in the vibe of Goa, mingle with local Goans and admire the beauty of South Goa in an unrushed manner.

So here’s what I think you should do – follow the 4 day itinerary as above. And you can spend your last day in Goa doing one of the options given below

Check Out The Museums

Goa Chitra , a privately owned ethnography museum, is a place to learn about ancient Goa and its culture. Displayed here are traditional farming implements and other ancient tools of trade set up against the backdrop of a traditional organic farm, wood work, doors, windows, pillars, railings and other material collected from over 300 demolished traditional houses, etc.

Although it may appear a bit tacky to some,  Ancestral Goa  (also known as the Big Foot museum) in Loutolim is often a favourite with kids with its models of village settings with huge displays explaining the history and culture of Goa. Besides, there are exhibits such as the Museum of Crosses, the Rosary Bead Museum, the Tiatr Hall of Fame dedicated to the actors of the Konkani theatre, etc. The Big Foot museum is open round the year, from 9am to pm.

Jila is a family-run bakery has been in business since 1972. According to rumours, the bakery was a favourite of Indira Gandhi's. Jila is based out of the home of Jose Inacio and Ludovina Antao, located in the peaceful village of Camorlim in Loutolim, South Goa. Their delectable eclairs get sold out fast. Also try the caramel-butter cake and luscious plum cake, as well as macaroons and Geneva pastry. You can tour the popular Big Foot Museum in Loutolim and walk across for a snack pitstop here.

Visit A Sanctuary

About 20 per cent of Goa’s geographical area (3,702sq km) is notified, and called the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. The core of the reserve is called Mollem. Go on a day's hike through the Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary. Located along the Western Ghat foothills, it is the largest wildlife reserve in the state. Notified in the year 1967, the reserve was first known as the Mollem Game Sanctuary. However, following the institution of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 , the provision for hunting blocks at Mollem was discontinued and the sanctuary was renamed Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. Later in 1978, an area of 107sq km was demarcated from within the reserve and christened the Mollem National Park in 1978. In 1982, Tambdi Surla and the surrounding villages of Dhargem and Talade were excluded from the park area. Dudhsagar Waterfalls

Ensconced in the Western Ghats, Goa’s highest and largest waterfalls come down an impressive length of 306m. Train passengers get a good view of the cascade – the rail track from Londa snakes down south and passes by the falls before heading north-west in a wide curve to Collem. This well-known four-tiered waterfall along the Mandovi River is popular on Insta. Surrounded by rich forest cover, you get occasional sightings of interested wildlife and the deafening roar of the falls as your constant companion. According to local mythology, a princess, the daughter of the Ghats' ruler, would frequently come here for a leisurely bath. A trip through the beautiful forest is required to access this hidden gem, so make sure to pack your trekking shoes.

Tambdi Surla Temple

The Tambdi Surla Temple complex is located in the deep jungles of Goa's Western Ghats, within the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. It is one of the region's oldest temples and is recognised for its unique and ornate architecture. The temple, built in the early 12th century, is regarded as one of the greatest specimens of Kadamba architecture. Usgalimar Rock Carvings

Spot Goa's prehistoric souvenirs at the Usgalimar Rock Carvings. A mini road trip is all you require to get to this historically-enriching place. The best part about the site is that you will find minimal footfall here, giving you ample space and time to dig deeper into the history of the place. Find over 100 intricate prehistoric remnants, believed to have been discovered in 1923. All of these carvings signify tribal art as old as 30,000 years old.

Stroll Through Spice Plantations

Spice plantation tours are becoming increasingly popular in Goa. On a guided tour, you will learn about the curative properties of the spices and the other natural products. Usually, a trip ends with a meal prepared from the locally grown produce. With   a spice plantation as old as 200 years old, Savoi Spice Plantation is a must-visit spot. This family-owned plantation has the most hospitable vibe offering tourists an enriching spice tour while enjoying fresh refreshments during sightseeing. Tropical Spice Plantation is another must-visit spice hub in Goa. Casa Museu Figueiredo

The most extraordinary living document of the heyday of Goa's aristocratic gentry is the palazzo of the Figueiredo family in South Goa's Loutolim. Still a family home, but now also a museum, it displays exquisite taste magnificent furniture, porcelain, draperies, artwork, libraries. Best of all, if you call in advance, the regal octogenarian Dona Maria de Lourdes de Figueiredo de Albuquerque will prepare a Luso-Indian lunch to be served in her family dining room. 

Walk Around Margao

Margao , commonly known as Madgaon, is the taluka capital of Salcete. The River Sal, which has now silted up into a little stream, historically carried cargo to and from Arabia and Africa. Today, the location is clearly commercial. Margao, with its shady lanes lined with colonial houses and bazaars full of lush fruit, is a jewel waiting to be discovered. Check out the Church Square, also known as Largo de Igreja, which is located in the Latin Quarter and is lined with elegant Colonial homes. The Church of the Holy Spirit, erected in 1564, is on one side of the square. It stands proudly in a huge rectangular mango tree-lined square, overlooking historic Colonial residences.

Spend A Day At Loutolim

Probably one of the most beautiful villages in Goa , Loutolim has lush paddy fields forming the backdrop for stunning Portuguese era mansions, including the home of the late cartoonist Mario Miranda 's mansion. Check out the more than 250-year-old Casa Araujo Alvares mansion (located opposite Ancestral Goa). And look out for the angled holes in an upstairs wall which were used for placing rifle barrels and shooting invaders.

Cabo de Rama Fort

Perched on the southern tip of Goa, the Cabo de Rama Fort is a lesser-known historical treasure that beckons tourists with its breathtaking views and rich past. This ancient fort has a storied history dating back to the pre-colonial era, when it was known as the Rama Killa. It was later rebuilt by Portuguese colonial forces and named after Lord Rama. Dudhsagar Falls of Goa is a majestic waterfall where the white water gushing through the steep and vertical face of the mountain portrays a cascading effect. It is believed that she was both a princess and a noted scholar, who became a Christian at around the age of 14 and also converted hundreds of people to Christianity, and was martyred around the age of 18. Catherine was known to be a spiritual pathfinder and raise her voice against the oppression of the Christians under the rule of Roman emperor Maxentius. She was so strong and logical with her arguments that the king himself was incapable of countering them and has a then he formed a committee of 50 philosophers to debate her ideas.However, even the assembly conceded defeat in front of her and confessed Christianity as their belief. Out of anger, the king burnt the philosophers alive and sentenced st.catherine to prison. Catherine did not give up, and she was succeeded in converting not only the jailers but also the king's wife. It is believed that she showed the path of Christianity to 200 people. Even when she was facing the worse condition of her life, she continued to stretch the word of Jesus. She was honoured with the title of"patroness of the wheel-wrights" because it is believed then when she was fastened to a spiked wheel as it was mentioned in her death sentence the wheel broke and she was left uninjured. And when she was finally beheaded, it is said that angle took her remains and laid them to rest atop Mount Sinai. When you visit the Se Cathedral, you can witness the Saint Catherine ornaments, a crown portraying her royal birth and has a book in her hands, which signifies her sound knowledge as she points a spiked wheel, which reveals her martyrdom.Se Cathedral HistoryThe Cathedral is devoted to St. Catherine of Alexandria, it is said that it was built to celebrate the victory of the Portuguese ruler Alfonso Albuquerque who destroyed the Muslim army and took ownership of the city of Goa. Consequently, it is also called St. Catherine's' Cathedral. In 1953, the Cathedral was presented with "The Golden Rose" by Venerable Pope Pius XII. It was approved by Governor George Cabral to be spread in 1552 on the remains of an earlier structure. The formation of the church began in 1562. There were two different techniques that were opted to make the church. The exterior was made in Tuscan style and the interior has been built in and Corinthian style. With dimensions of 250 feet long and 181 feet wide, this church has a  delightfully decorated entrance that measures around 115 feet in height. The church is amazingly decorated, yet the style is intriguing and simple. The Cathedral has been built on an elevated base of laterite, which is covered with the thick lime plaster.You can also see the bell tower which is located on the southern side of the façade. The building of the church is rectangular on the plan but has a cruciform layout in the interior. The main altar is devoted to Catherine of Alexandria, and you can also see several old paintings on either side of it. You can also see the Chapel, which is known as the Cross of Miracles, it is believed that there was an image of Christ that was said to have appeared in 1619. 

Located in Canacona in Southern Goa, Palolem Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Goa. Known for its picturesque natural beauty and uncanny party vibes, this semi-circular beach is only a mile long. Therefore, you will not require much time to explore all the beautiful sites that the beach has to offer. South Goa is like North Goa was decades ago, with relatively pristine beaches and minimal development. If you want to escape the ever-growing crowd and commercialization in North Goa, and have a relatively laid back vacation, you'll love it there. Getting There

Depending on your budget, there are various ways you can reach South Goa. The most convenient way is to fly to Goa airport and then take a prepaid taxi from the arrivals hall. Depending on how far south you want to go (Patnem beach is usually the limit for most people), it will be a drive of up to an hour and a half (expect to pay an 2,000 taxi fare for this distance). The main railway station in South Goa is called Madgaon (Margao). It's on the Konkan Railway line and is commonly reached by train from Mumbai. Margao is 40 minutes away from Patnem and the trip costs about 1,000 rupees in a taxi. The bus from Mumbai is another inexpensive way of getting to South Goa, albeit a less comfortable one.

Where to Stay: Luxury Hotels

The majority Goa's luxury hotels are located in South Goa, particularly in the vicinity of Varca, Cavelossim and Morbor beaches. These fishing beaches are clean and unspoiled. The most popular luxury hotels are the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa , Zuri White Sands , ITC Grand , The Leela, Alila Diwa , and the Lalit Golf and Spa Resort near Patnem beach in the far south.

The Mayfair Hideaway Spa Resort is a serene boutique riverside option at Betul. It's a 10 minute boar ride along the Sal River to Morbor beach.

A stay at The Postcard Cuelim , inland from Cansaulim beach, combines boutique luxury with heritage and local culture. Where to Stay: Secluded Beach Views

If you're looking for an intimate and secluded getaway, a couple of options stand out. Paradise found is the first thing that comes to mind at Dwarka Eco Beach Resort on Cola beach (not to be mistaken with touristy Colva beach) about 20 minutes north of Agonda. The stylish cottages are among the best you'll find in Goa. They're set amid a sprawling palm grove that borders a lagoon and the ocean. The property is reached via a private dirt road and is idyllic as it sounds.

The Cape Goa fits the bill for somewhere more luxurious. It has nine gorgeous sea-facing cottages built into the side of the cliff near Cabo de Rama fort, about 20 minutes north of Cola beach. The cottages all have their own private Jacuzzi.

Where to Stay: Heritage Villas

Turiya Villa

Turiya Villa is a stunningly restored 100 year-old Goan villa in Canacona (Chaudi) town, near Patnem and Palolem beaches. It has two wings: the original heritage villa with five rooms that open onto the patio, and the new wing with three rooms that open out onto the garden. The villa is an ideal place to stay if you're traveling with family or a group of friends, as the whole property can be booked.

One of the top places to go glamping in India , you can stay by the Galgibag River in a chic tipi at La Mangrove south of Patnem. There are four tipis on the property, and they're really comfortable. The Tribe Goa is a collective of individuals that has come together to build an off-the-grid forest village for creative people to meet and live amid nature. They've transformed a huge derelict former cashew plantation into a thriving, self-sufficient jungle with guesthouse, vegetarian cafe, and music venue. It's located inland from Agonda beach near Leopard Valley. 

Also in the same area, Khaama Kethna is another jungle haven that's been turned into a holistic well-being retreat center with yoga, organic food, healing therapies, and workshops.

Bhakti Kurtir, on a coconut grove near Palolem beach, is a similar concept. Its eco-friendly cabanas are made out of natural materials, and there's an Ayurveda center and yoga.

Best Beach for Chilling Out: Agonda

If you're keen on simply relaxing and doing nothing, Agonda beach is the place! It's still fairly quiet and undeveloped. Most Happening Beach: Palolem

About 10 minutes south of Agonda beach, Palolem is South Goa's most picturesque and happening beach (although don't expect a lot of action because South Goa just isn't like that!). Colorful coco huts and shacks are clustered under the dense palm trees that line this semi-circle shaped beach. Bit of Both: Patnem

Five minutes south of Palolem, Patnem offers a blend of entertainment and relaxation. This small beach, nestled between two cliffs, is a wonderful place to stay if you want to chill out but not be too far away from the nightlife in Palolem. Best Secret Beach: Galjibag

About 15 minutes south of Patnem beach, little-known Galjibag beach is a protected Olive Ridley turtle breeding site that remains refreshingly untouched and free of any permanent structures. There's hardly a soul on this long stretch of beach, thickly lined with Casuarina trees. The handful of shacks at the southern end of the beach serve fresh seafood from the nearby river. What to Do: Explore Old Portuguese Mansions

If you're interested in Goa's Portuguese heritage, it's possible to go inside some magnificent old mansions that have been restored and are open to the public. There are quite a few of them in South Goa, and you can spend a day exploring them. You'll find them in Chandor (the Braganza House), Loutolim (Casa Araujo Alvares) and Quepem (Palacio do Deao). What to Do: Visit Goa Chitra Museum

Learn about Goa's traditional farming lifestyle at the unique Goa Chitra Museum in Benaulim. It was privately set up to showcase and preserve the agrarian way of life, and has more than 4,000 artifacts on display. Many of them are old farming tools and equipment, as well as other implements including kitchen utensils. You can see them in use at the functional organic farm next to the museum. There's also a separate section, Goa Chakra, with about 70 antique carts, carriages and palanquins from across India. Interestingly, the museum was built using repurposed doors, windows and pillars from more than 300 demolished traditional houses. Tours are conducted every hour. Tickets cost 300 rupees per person.

What to Do: Hot Air Ballooning

Tiger Balloon Safaris, in conjunction with Goa Tourism, conducts daily early morning hot air balloon flights over South Goa from mid October to mid May. The flights depart from Chandor and cost $190 or 11,000 rupees per person.

Where to Eat: Top Goan Cuisine Restaurants

Fish curry and rice are ubiquitous in the beach shacks. However, if you're willing to venture further inland, you'll be able to feast on scrumptious Goan cuisine at some memorable restaurants. Martin's Corner , near the Alila Diwa hotel in Betalbatim, is perhaps the most famous one. It's been in business since 1989 and grew out of a corner shop with just a few tables. Seafood is the specialty, and it's flavored with family-made spices. There's live music Sundays and most nights.

Head to the Fisherman's Wharf, by the banks of the River Sal in Cavelossim, for seafood and Goan fusion cuisine in an upmarket setting.

In Margao, South Goa's main city, Martins is a stylish option for Goan and global fare. It's closed on Tuesdays though. A bit easier on the wallet, Peppers Gourmet Cuisine is recommended for traditional Goan food too.

Chef Fernando's Nostalgia, at the late chef's heritage mansion in Raia village just north of Margao, is renowned for its classic Portugese-Goan dishes that are rarely served in restaurants. The place really comes to life Thursday through Sunday, when bands play at night. There's karaoke on Wednesdays.

If you're visiting the old Portuguese mansions, book a day in advance to have lunch at Palacio do Deao (from 11 a.m to 3 p.m.). There's no menu or choice of dishes, apart from vegetarian or non-vegetarian. You're guaranteed to get an authentic homemade five-course meal though, featuring produce from the owner's garden. It's special.

How to Reach South Goa?

While exploring South Goa, you should make Agonda or Palolem your base and then travel to nearby places.

To reach Palolem or Agonda, you have multiple options:

Via Public Transport

• If you are coming via train, you should ideally arrive at Margao railway station. You can take local cabs from the station, charging around INR 500 – INR 600 for a one-way trip to Palolem or Agonda.
• Another option is to take a bus from the  Madgaon Bus Stand  to Palolem or Agonda. You can hire a rickshaw from the Madgaon railway station, and they will charge you around INR 70-80. The bus fare is INR 80 to Palolem.
• If you are lucky, you can find shared cabs between Madgaon and Palolem; the charges are INR 100 per person. 
• If you are coming from the airport, you can take the express bus to Margao bus stand and follow the instructions mentioned in pt. 2. 

Via Private Vehicle

• Palolem is connected via road to all the major cities in Maharashtra & Karnataka. The distance from Mumbai to Palolem is around 630 kms via NH48 through Karnataka. This is the fastest way to reach South Goa, as the roads are far better than NH 66.

10 Off-beat Things To Do & Places To See

• Sadolxem Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in South Goa, especially on Instagram. However, most people come here, take photos & leave. But you can also take a unique private boat ride on the Talpona River with the local fishermen. An hour’s ride will cost you around an hour. You can also take food and alcohol with you on the boat, sit on the riverbank and have good lunch in the middle of nowhere. It is one of the most unique experiences that one has to experience when in South Goa. The river is calm, and you can even dive & swim. 
• Galgibaga Beach is one the most secluded and cleanest beaches in South Goa, without a doubt. We recommend you go here early, around 7-8 AM, take a morning dip, and soak in the Vitamin D while basking on the beach. Galgibag Beach is about an hour’s scooter ride from Palolem.
• Cola Beach for its famous lagoon. It is one of the most picturesque beaches in South Goa. You can kayak in the lagoon for half an hour for INR 200. The lagoon isn’t big and not deep, either. Be early so you can avoid the crowds. The sea here is rough, so we don’t recommend swimming here. However, you can have lunch or breakfast in the many sea-facing shacks.
• To reach here, you need to walk down from the parking area. The last 1-2 kms of the road that leads to the parking is more of a mud trail and gets very difficult to control the bike; hence you should be careful while riding here.
• Kakolem Beach is the best beach in South Goa, without a doubt. Like Cola, you must ride on a scooter to the  Kakolem viewpoint  and walk down the stairs for 15-20 mins. 
• You rarely find anyone on this beach; there’s only a shack, and the same place offers beach huts. The beach is an ideal place to chill, read a book, have some pints of beer, and sunbathe.
• Palolem Beach is one of the most happening beaches of South Goa, and also many water activities are conducted here. However, the most common one is kayaking. You can rent a kayak for an hour for around INR 300-350, and if you are lucky, you can even spot dolphins on the beach.
• Patnem Beach is very close to Palolem Beach; you can reach here in 15 mins on a scooter. The beach is the best to have romantic sunset walks and a good dinner with friends and family. 
• Butterfly Beach is the most famous beach; you can reach it here via boat or on a scooter; for the last 1-2 kms, you must walk to the beach through the forest; the trail is laid-out properly.
• Note: The shared boats start only after 9:00 AM. The best way is to come here alone and early in the morning. If you are lucky, you may get the whole place and take a dip if you like.

15. Sal Estuary, South Goa 

Sandwiched beautifully between the shores of the Cavelossim beach and Betul beach, Sal estuary is a calm and quiet retreat along the coast of River Sal . Walk along the shore of the Cavelossim beach or if you fancy fishing, you can try your luck with a fishing line in the waters of Betul beach, where traditional fishermen lay their nets.

14. Cola Beach, Canacona, South Goa

Enjoy a scenic drive south towards Canacona , follow the signboards carefully, and you’ll reach the peaceful Cola beach. Come here for a leisurely evening with friends around a bonfire and leave with tons of memories. The lagoon here, nestled between the surrounding flora is a sight to watch.

13. Betul Lighthouse, Betul, South Goa

At a distance of just 20kms from the nearest city, Madgaon , the Betul lighthouse in Quitol, stands majestically like a sentinel, braving the forces of nature. Painted in bright red and white stripes, the coastal landmark can be spotted from a long way out and makes for a perfect subject in landscape pictures. The lighthouse is built on a hill and is surrounded by pastures of tall grass on one side and the coast, on the other.

12. Rivona Buddhist Caves, Quepem, South Goa

On the road south from Zambaulim in Quepem Taluka, there comes the small village of Rivona. Meagerly inhabited by a handful of hutments, the village is home to a moderate set of red-stoned caves. Spread over two levels, the upper and the lower, the caves are said to be built by 6th century Buddhist monks. The barely noticeable compartment shaped appearance makes for little architectural beauty, but is a strong reminder that Buddhism spread far and wide.

For all the nature lovers longing for a quiet day of bird watching or the excitement of spotting a wild animal in its habitat, Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is the place to be in Goa. Located in the Sanguem Taluka, the sanctuary makes for a perfect outing on a weekend, with enough activities and nearby attractions to keep you engaged till sunset. 10. Galgibaga Beach, Canacona, South Goa

Mention the word pristine, and Galgibaga beach instantly pops to my head. Sadly, this quaint beach is unknown to a lot of travellers and even locals to attract beach lovers. Stretching for about 1.5 km, the spotless sands and looming pine trees provide a natural setting for the Olive Turtle Protection Drive implemented by the Forest Department on the entire northern part of the beach. While there are only a couple of shacks on the beach, and nor are there decent restaurants or hotels nearby, the beauty of this beach lies in its detached existence from the bursting tourist population of Goa.

When the sky is overcast, and the cool winds of monsoon blow across the Zuari river, the Salaulim Dam, built on the Saluli river, creates for a beautiful setting with dense vegetation all around. The dam’s unique duckbill spillway, through which water gushes down into the river below is a pleasing engineering marvel to watch. Relax in the botanical garden close by and take in the beauty of Goa during the monsoon.

8. Sadolxem Bridge – Sadolxem, Canacona, South Goa

Connecting Canacona to Pionguinim, this two-decade old Bailey bridge is one of a kind in Goa. Wide enough only for one four-wheeler to pass at a time, the bridge is at an interesting focal point over the Talpona river, which makes for great viewing of the backwaters and mangrove vegetation. Although the now aging bridge is worrying locals due to it corroding at many spots, do make it a point to visit it if you’re ever in the area.

7. Three Kings Church, Cansaulim, South Goa

Located in the village of Cansaulim , 15km from Velsao in South Goa is a holy sanctuary turned rogue. Local villagers say the church has been possessed by the spirits of the three kings .  Numerous paranormal sightings have been recorded in and across the church walls. Astonishingly, The GRIP team of Indian Paranormal Society inspected the place and confirmed the worst fears. And since then, this place has been topping the charts of haunted places in Goa . If you’re in the mood for some real spine-tingling chills in Goa, you know where to be! 

6. Dudhsagar Falls, South Goa

Aptly named, Dudhsagar or ‘the Ocean of milk’ is any traveller’s highlight. The gushing water is at its peak during the monsoon, but a less forceful, steady stream of water flows the rest of the year. A jeep ride, charged by the jeep operators, will take you to the bottom of the falls, where you can bathe and splash to your heart’s content. The drive till the waterfalls is bumpy, but that apart, a classic way to beat the heat.

5. Tambdi Surla Temple, Valpoi, South Goa

Built around the idol of Lord Shiva in the lingam form, the Mahadev temple in the village of Tambdi Surla at the foot of the Anmod Ghat is the oldest temple in Goa. Inspired from Jain architecture and decorated with intricate motifs of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and elephants, snakes, the small but well preserved temple has stood the test of Portuguese colonisation as well as Mughal rule. The river Surla flows just next to the temple and can be reached by a flight of steps.

4. Bamanbudo Waterfalls, Canacona, South Goa

Surrounded by thriving greenery on all sides, this spectacular waterfall looks as though it originates right at the roots of the towering trees above. Easily accessible from Margao or Canacona by road, the waterfall lies right on the edge of the road and requires no trekking. The waterfall can be enjoyed in all its glory only in the monsoon, when the huge volume of water rushes down with utmost force.

3. Hollant Beach, Vasco da Gama, South Goa

Very close to the famous Bogmalo beach in Vasco da Gama , Hollant beach offers breathtaking views of the southern coastline of Goa. With an array of good restaurants and resorts in the area, Hollant beach can be a great getaway for your entire family. The only beach that offers you the chance to see the sunrise, you can come here in the early hours for a refreshing start to your day.

2. Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary, Caranzol, South Goa

Of the 6 wildlife sanctuaries in Goa , Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary is the most spectacular and largest one that covers 240 kms of moist deciduous forests. Located close to the border with Karnataka in the Western Ghats, this one shelters an abundant number of species. From the big cats such as the tiger, leopard and panther that roam the grounds to the gaur, which is the state animal of Goa, the sanctuary is well represented in flora too. Dudhsagar falls is located in the southeast region of the sanctuary and is also a must visit.

Named after Lord Rama, who lived here with wife Sita during his exile from Ayodhya, Cabo de Rama fort is one of the oldest and largest forts of Goa . Captured by the Portuguese during their rule, and earlier by the Mughals, this fort has played a key role in India’s rich history. Magnificent views of the Arabian Sea and the Goan coastline can be witnessed from atop the fort.

Hi guys, let me introduce myself. My name is Natasha Monteiro and I’m a Mumbaikar whose heart lies in the depths of Goa. I’ve probably been to Goa more times than I’ve been to Goregaon. You may think I’m exaggerating, but I’m really not. I visit Goa at least 4 times a year, and before you go about saying ki bahut paise hai, I have to tell you I’ve visited Goa on ALL budgets. I’ve lived in hostels and 5 stars, eaten in shacks and in fine dines. But this isn’t about me. This is about you and planning your ultimate trip to beautiful South Goa and everything you need to know about this beautiful location. So let’s get started.

About South Goa

South Goa is that part of Goa that went abroad and got firang wala education. It’s softer, quieter, cleaner and definitely way more peaceful from the hustle & bustle of North Goa. South Goa is that part of Goa that not many people talk about, and so you tend to miss it in the mix. It doesn’t belong to the typical Goa stereotype of loud music, parties, clubs and a line of restaurants catering more to the rest of India than offering authentic Goan cuisine. Fair warning: South Goa is not for everyone and that’s okay. I’ve met a lot of people who visited South Goa and got bored out of their minds. And then again I’ve met a range of people (myself included) who have fallen in love with this magical, mystical side of Goa that will steal your heart away.

How To Reach South Goa?

By Flight: Getting to South Goa by flight is pretty easy. Goa has only one airport at Dabolim, which is somewhat right in the middle of the state. From Dabolim airport, you can hire a local taxi or book a taxi through Goa Miles (an app by the government that is cheaper than the airport taxis)

By Train: Madgaon is the major junction for South Goa, where all upcountry trains normally make a halt

By Road: Depending on which part of India you are driving from, the directions will change. The route from Mumbai to South Goa is extremely beautiful and takes about 11 h 3 min  (613.2 km)  via AH47.

By Bus: There are a number of buses that ply from major metros in India to South Goa. You can choose a luxury AC bus or a simple, single tier bus – depending on your budget and preference.

Places To Visit In South Goa

Okay, here’s an important disclaimer to know when you are visiting South Goa for the first time. There are a lot of places to visit in South Goa – one more beautiful than the other. Unlike North Goa however, these places are far more spaced out so it’s a little difficult to just take a bike and flit between beaches. It’s not impossible. It’s just not as fun as the North. Also, South Goa has far lesser ‘typical tourist sites’ than the North of Goa does. So if you are one of those people who love zooming around and ticking off a bucket-list of sights to see, South Goa might not excite you as much. 1. Palolem/Agonda

This one is my PERSONAL FAVOURITE spot in all of Goa and to be honest, I’m in two minds as I write this out. Palolem is that gem of Goa that wasn’t even discovered by Indian tourists until a few years ago. Even today, Palolem gets relatively lesser tourists and is an absolute delight to the senses. It has one of the cleanest and calmest beaches in all of the South. The water is relatively shallow and the beach itself is a sight to behold.

Accommodation: Palolem and Agonda are normally filled with Israelis and Russians through the year. They normally keep to themselves and are extremely non-intrusive. There are also plenty of accommodation options from beach huts to 5 stars. The accommodations are pretty reasonable and the view is absolutely gorgeous.

Pro Tip: If you have the luxury, book your stay on the spot instead of online since you’ll get way cheaper spots on the spot and there’s always plenty of accommodation for everyone.

Food: Thanks to the large number of Israelis and Russians, you’ll find a lot of the menu catering to these citizens. But Palolem does have its fair share of Indian restaurants and authentic Goan cuisine as well.

2. Benaulim

Ufff, I love Benaulim so much, I friggin got married on the beach there. Benaulim is literally the most chilled out place ever. If Bob Marley came to Goa, he’d be making songs about Benaulim beach. It’s clean, pretty and there’s lots to do and love. Benaulim is a foodie haven. All the lanes to the beach are filled with delicious restaurants that will make you drool.

Accommodation: Benaulim is home to a lot of Russians, which means there’s plenty of accommodation available. The flip side is that some parts of Benaulim is reserved only for Russians – hypocritical I know! For Benaulim, I would suggest booking online in advance though.

Food: Thanks to the large number of Russians, you’ll find a lot of the menu catering to these citizens. However, that being said Benaulim is a foodie dream. You can get every kind of meal you can imagine. It’s delicious and finger-lickin’ good.

If you are the kind of person who strongly believes in be Indian and be around Indians, well Colva should be your go to spot in South Goa. It’s a beach full of Indians and the beach in itself is very gorgeous. Warning, Colva Beach can get a little crowded as opposed to the rest of South Goa. Also, women may have to be a little more careful here and it’s preferable to stay in groups – especially by the beach.

Food: Colva CATERS TO INDIANS! So if you’re the kind of person who cannot go on a holiday without craving for Dal Makhani and Paneer, then Colva should be your spot.

Aah yes! You know how in Goldilocks and the three bears, the last bed was just perfect? Utorda is in the Goldilocks zone of South Goa. It’s got the right vibe, the perfect mix of Indians and foreigners, a beautiful beach and amazing vibes. You can chill by a shack all day or lounge by the beach with absolutely NO ONE to bother you.

Accommodation: One of the best accommodations on Utorda Beach has to be the Taj. Its SO BEAUTIFUL and faces the sea. It truly is the perfect luxury accommodation and is a great honeymoon spot in Goa. There are also plenty of budget options available and it’s best to book online.

Food: Utorda has a whole lot of beach shacks to choose from and you get a good mix of both Indian and authentic Goan cuisine.

Bogmalo is where the elite of Goa stay. As you head to Bogmalo beach, keep an eye out on the beautiful bungalows to your left and right. The beach itself is gorgeous and the food is to die for. Not too crowded and very close to the airport, Bogmalo is definitely a spot I’d recommend.

Food: THE CHEESE GARLIC NAAN AT JOHN’S – I know I’m shouting but definitely add this to your Goa bucket list. John’s is a personal recommendation and it has great food with a view of the beach. The food and the ambience is great and on most days John himself is around to interact with guests.

The best time to visit Dudhsagar Waterfalls is the month of October. This gorgeous 4-tiered waterfall is indeed a marvel to behold. You can see it from the upcountry trains too. Believe me, the first time you see it you’re going to gasp in shock it’s that gorgeous and no photograph can ever do justice to just how wondrous it is. The milky white water against the rocks and the bright greenery around it is a must visit. The entry gate to the sanctuary opens at 6:00 am and remains open till 5:00pm.

Cabo de Rama Fort was built by the local Soonda rulers but was overtaken & modernized by the Portugese in 1763. Sandwiched comfortably between Agonda & Cavelossim beach. Attached to the fort is a tiny 500 meter long Cabo de Rama beach. The fort is an ideal place to catch the sunset. The fort itself is spread over 18000 square meters and is presently in ruins, but given its picturesque location is still worth a visit and some cool photos. You can also visit the St Antonio church nearby that still has services every Sunday.

1. Dudhsagar Falls

This picturesque location is like a scene taken out from an epic movie. The majestic white waters which resemble milk cascade down the hills in a rush to meet the flowing waters, a passing rail track is a like a cherry on the top making the journey so much more memorable. And impressive 310m (1017ft) in height and about 100ft in width it’s also known as Tambdi Surla to some locals. There’s a legendary folklore associated with this place, where a beautiful queen to escape from the handsome prince’s gaze hid behind a curtain of milk and hence this place got its name. Situated in South Goa, origins from the Mandovi River  this place is on the bucket list of every explorer.

2.) Se Cathedral Church

The Se Cathedral is Goa’s largest church and is known for its spectacular architecture. It was constructed as a monument to St. Catherine as a celebration of Portugal’s victory over India. This location, which is home to the Great Golden Bell and has received the Pope’s blessing in the shape of the Golden Rose, exudes a very strong spiritual aura. 5.) Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary

The Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the foothills of the Western Ghats and spanning a staggering 240 square kilometres, is the largest wildlife sanctuary in the state of Goa . A wide variety of plant, bird, and animal life can be found in this sanctuary. The hiking routes that wind through this vast area of land are popular with hikers and nature enthusiasts. The sanctuary is home to a significant quantity of biodiversity in addition to the well-known Dudhsagar waterfall, Devil’s Canyon, Tambdi Surla temple, Tambdi falls, and a number of other historic and religious locations. One of South Goa’s major attractions.

6.) Shantadurga Temple

The goddess Shantadurga, who acts as a middleman between Vishnu and Shiva, is the subject of the temple. The deity is also known by the slang name “Santeri.” Local folklore describes a conflict between Shiva and Vishnu. Because of how intense the conflict was, the god Brahma pleaded to Goddess Parvati for help. Parvati answered in the shape of Shantadurga. Shiva and Vishnu were placed on Shantadurga’s left and right hands, respectively, to end the conflict.

Shantadurga is depicted clutching two serpents—one for Shiva and the other for Vishnu—in each hand. A well revered place by the devotees this is one of a kind jewel in South Goa’s crown.

7.) Naval Aviation Museum

One of only two military museums in India, this museum opened its doors in 1998. Actually, it’s the only naval aviation museum in Asia. A variety of aircraft operated by the Indian Navy during the course of its history are on display at the museum. These are shown in the outdoor exhibition of the museum. The museum’s interior was created to resemble the interior of a naval aircraft carrier, the INS Viraat, and it features a number of intriguing galleries that showcase naval equipment, famous battles, a simulation room, and a substantial granite plaque honouring the brave men and women who gave their lives in defence of their country. If you’re visiting South Goa this place is a must on your list of things to do in Goa.

8.) Tambdi Surla Mahadev Temple

Considered to be the only example of Kadamba-Yadava architecture in basalt stone that has been preserved and is accessible in South Goa, the modest, exquisitely carved, and perfectly proportioned black basalt temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Mahadev Temple, which can be seen in Tambi Surla in Mollem, is the oldest temple in all of Goa. In the twelfth century, the temple was constructed in the Jain style. A flight of stone steps leads to the neighbouring river Surla, which flows through the area.

9.) Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary

A tributary of the Zuari river, Netravali wildlife sanctuary is located in South Goa. This sanctuary is well-known for a variety of species including Gaur, Ratufa indica, Tetracerus quadricornis, and leopard. It is nestled with deep trees that remain evergreen throughout the year. The Malayan night heron, Nilgiri wood pigeon, pied hornbill, grey-headed bulbul, white-bellied treepie, and a rufous babbler are some of its most recognisable birds.

The post-monsoon season, which lasts from October to March, is the best time to explore the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary. 10. Netravali Bubbling Lake

There are other names for the Netravali Lake, including Budbud, Budbudyachi Tali, and Bubble Lake. The lake, which is well-known for its bubbles, is situated in the beautiful and tranquil village of Netravali. Strangely enough, they also seem to react to specific noises and will rise more quickly if you clap! Even though it has granite steps leading up to it, the lake is actually more of a pond than a lake. The lake’s centre also features a sizable granite pedestal. The lake or pond holds religious significance for the locals, not just because of the lake itself but also because of the surrounding Gopinath Temple. This mysterious phenomenon is a site to behold and a place amazement in South Goa.

11.) Bambanbudo Waterfall

The adjectives “untouched” and “unexploited” properly characterise the Bamanbudo Waterfall. One of the most unspoiled waterfalls is located close to Old South Goa. This waterfall cascades against the lovely Amba Ghat backdrop. With water cascading down the lush green hills, the waterfall is without a doubt the picture-perfect location. Everything is wonderful, including the sound of the river and the crispness of the air.

You’ll adore it if you take this vacation between July and August . The rain is soaking off the forest’s leaves, making the weather absolutely fantastic. 12.) Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary

Animal, bird, and nature lovers all adore visiting these natural havens. The Cotigao wildlife sanctuary, which is located in South Goa, on the boundary between Goa and Karnataka, is the second largest and most accessible (through all seasons) among these. Although tourists might not encounter many of the larger kinds of animals, this is a well-liked destination for the more daring traveller because of the lovely trees and colourful birds.

When travelling to South Goa don’t forget to make an appearance in this beautiful church.

The Big Foot Museum is a museum and theme park located in the Salcete sub-district (or taluka) in Loutolim, South Goa, India. This privately managed business builds a miniature replica of a Goan village to show how rural life there used to be more than a century ago. An outdoor location serves as the museum’s setting.

The Three Kings Church, famed for its eerie surroundings, is thought to be among Goa’s most haunted locations. The church, which is situated on the Cuelim hull, was constructed in 1599 by Fr. Gonzalo Carvalho S.J. Many visitors come to this Chapel in South Goa to escape the monotony of Goa’s beach and party scene because of its picturesque location.

The church lies near Cansaulim, and you may get there by taking a leisurely ride through South Goa’s verdant Ghats. The area around the church provides a panoramic view of the stunning landscapes all around. This location is worth visiting because of the unobstructed greenery, pleasant breeze, and 360-degree view of the sea. The church is renowned for hosting the annual Feast of Three Kings Chapel, which honours the day of the three kings’ epiphany, on January 6.
