Atlas Mountain Tours – A Full Review of Trek Atlas in Morocco

A view of Aroumd in the Atlas Mountain range in Morocco on a tour from Imlil

If you are researching Atlas Mountain tours and trying to narrow down the best guide for your trek or hike, then look no further. In 2022, we found the best guide for the job! Escaping the chaos of Marrakech into the serene Atlas Mountains is an absolute must if you are an outdoor lover and traveller, looking for authentic experiences.

I’m going to start this review by pointing out, that our tour with Trek Atlas was not a compensated trek of the Atlas Mountains.  Nor will you find any affiliate links in my post below.  We paid for our tour in full and we have no financial agreement with Trek Atlas in writing this post.

We had researched online and found many operators selling Atlas Mountain tours.  After narrowing down a few, we emailed them with questions about what options we had available for trekking.  And also, questions around how kids generally handle hiking the Atlas Mountains.  From the replies we received, we felt an immediate confidence and connection with Trek Atlas.

But I’ll tell you why below
read on for our full review of Trek Atlas. Then when you are convinced, go ahead and book your Atlas Mountain tour in Morocco – you won’t be sorry you did.

Finding Private, Tailored, Atlas Mountain Tours

Ahmed Zin walking with kids on a hike of the Atlas Mountain range in Morocco on a family tour

We are keen outdoorsy people, we’re not super fit, but do love long hikes and getting out into nature.  And after slow travelling in Morocco for two full months leading up to our hike, we had had many recommendations about visiting the Atlas Mountain range.

So, as I explained above, we did a google search for Atlas Mountain tours in preparation for our hike.  And with some back and forward of emails between multiple companies, we decided on Trek Atlas.

We chose Trek Atlas for three main reasons – our tour was private, communication was excellent and value for money was the best.

Excellent Communication

A child rides a mule with Trek Atlas Ahmed Zin near Sidi Chamharouch in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco

From the first email exchanged with both Chris and Ahmed and they felt like the right fit for us.  They were efficient, quick to respond and we felt like they cared about the experience that we were about to embark on with them.

Any concern that we voiced with them before our trek, either through email, whatsapp or call, was immediately addressed.  So, you can rest assured knowing that they will understand, listen and provide helpful advice wherever they can.

For example, trekking the Atlas Mountains with our 7 and 9 year old was probably our biggest concern. We were quickly told that we would have a mule on standby to help out tired little legs when needed.  Problem solved!

The Story of Trek Atlas

Ahmed Zin helps kids cross a waterfall on the Atlas Mountains in Morocco

I knew we were in good hands minutes after our arrival in Imlil to meet Ahmed our guide at the restaurant.  As I walked in, the restaurant staff glanced over my shoulder and saw Ahmed. Then immediately tell me – “the best guide in the Atlas Mountains.”

Enter Ahmed!  To fully appreciate how lucky we were to find Trek Atlas you need to hear some of the background story for Ahmed Zin and Chris James.  A large part of how they met, and their story contributes greatly to how Trek Atlas came to be.

Meet Ahmed Zin

Ahmed Zin with his son in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco

Born in the small village of Aroumd in 1977, Ahmed knows the Atlas Mountain range and beyond like the back of his hand.  His father was born there, he was born there, and his daughter and three sons were too.   Aroumd is the last village before you begin ascending up into the Atlas mountains.   It’s a Berber village, with a population of 1700.  It’s small and beautiful and very traditional for the region.

Ahmed went to Koran school until he was 16 and from a young boy was preparing for life as an Imam. However, with school a large expense on the family, it soon became more important for him to begin work.  And from that point onwards he began working on the family farm.

In his time off he took up extra work as a muler (guiding the mules up the Atlas Mountains), soon moving up to a cook-hand.  During this time, he committed himself to learning new languages including, French & English.  Then when he’d saved enough he began studying to be a guide with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Skiing and Mountaineering.

Ahmed was driven, he had a goal and his heart was set on working as a guide taking tours on the Atlas Mountains.  Over the following ten years Ahmed worked as a guide across several tour providers.  And then in 2008 Chris James arrived in Morocco for a group tour and was guided by, no other than, Ahmed Zin.

And this is where the story gets really cool!

Meet Chris James

Sidi Chamarouch temple in the high Atlas Mountains in Morocco is a place to admire when on a guided tour.

Chris James from England, then in his 60’s, and travelling along with a group of friends, arrived to trek the Atlas Mountains.  This six day tailored hike was a Moroccan hike of a lifetime, but also a beginning of a great friendship between Ahmed and Chris. He later returned to Morocco with his wife to hike again with Ahmed.

Chris obviously spotted some greater potential in Ahmed and offered to set up a website on his behalf.  Back in the United Kingdom, retiree Chris dedicated his time setting up the Trek Atlas website on Ahmed’s behalf.

And so now when enquires come in, Chris is the first point of contact and answers all the potential client’s questions .  Then he connects you with Ahmed when you have confirmed and ready to discuss the tour in more detail.

The important thing to note here, is that Chris does this without a fee .  He dedicates his time for a good friend
in fact Ahmed describes him not as a friend, but family.  He says that he is where he is because of Chris.

I don’t know about you
but this story spoke to me of integrity!  And I love supporting small business and local.  So, when I discovered the background story of Trek Atlas, I just knew it had to be shared.

The Experience – Two Day / One Night Atlas Mountain Tours

Kids swim in a waterfall in the Atlas Mountain range in Morocco on a family tour

Here is where I tell you about our experience.  And I will struggle to keep it brief, but I’ll do my best.

We chose to keep it simple and went for a one night, two day tour to the Atlas Mountains.  Partly due to time restraints and because we had heard others had struggled with the hike up to the summit at Mount Toubkal.  Also, because we were unsure how the kids would cope and weren’t really prepared in terms of shoes and fitness.

Knowing what I know now, we probably could have done the hike to the summit.  It just means we’ll be back again.

Door to Door Service

Ahmed Zin picks cherries in the Atlas Mountains

With our tour itinerary chosen we were eager and ready to go.  A driver collected us from our accommodation in Marrakech.  This is the fantastic thing about an Atlas Mountain tour – from Marrakech its only 90 minutes to Imlil.  The door to door service makes life easy breasy getting to and from Imlil.  A taxi is sent to collect you from your hotel, or hostel in our case, and you have it all to yourself.

We were dropped off in Imlil, met by Ahmed and a after a quick mint tea we set off.   A mule was arranged to carry our couple of overnight bags.   From here it was just us, in nature with our guide.

Off the Beaten Trail Treks in Atlas Mountains

Walking through the village of Aroumd in the Atlas Mountain range in Morocco on a family tour

As we mentioned above your trek takes you through Ahmed’s home.  So, he knows this terrain like the back of his hand.  You really get a sense that you are off the beaten track.

Our first day involved a walk from Imlil to Aroumd a tiny Berber village further up the valley.  But we didn’t take the route that the other tourists take from Imlil.  This was the first thing we loved about Ahmed’s tour
where can, he takes you on the lesser trodden path.  The one the locals take.

Arriving at the village in Aroumd and you step back in time. It feels wholesome in some way, and a privilege to be a part of. And as this is Ahmed’s village you receive a very respected welcome.

Guest house in Aroumd in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco

After settling into our guest house, and a delicious lunch of egg tagine we had a private tour of the village and Atlas Mountain valley .  We ate the tastiest cherries from a secret white cherry tree, and agreed never to share its location.  We walked the village, the river, the apple orchards, past the local hammam and up to Ahmed’s home.

Here we were welcomed for mint tea and freshly baked cake made by his eldest daughter.  And from the terrace we sat enjoying our afternoon tea as we looked up towards the Atlas Mountains and Mount Toubkal.  This spectacular view was what we were to hike the next day.

Atlas Mountains with Kids – How They Coped

Children swim in a water hole in the Atlas Mountain range in Morocco on a family tour

When we hike with our kids I always expect complaints for the first 30 minutes.  In all honesty I did not hear “are we there yet” once.  Ahmed gave our girls Berber headdress to wear, he gave them each a Berber name, he answered their hundreds of questions and helped them over streams. It was also lovely to have his son join us for the day’s hike.

We hiked in total just over two hours up to Sidi Chamharouch and the same back. The small village at the temple and the temple itself were very interesting to see.  For lunch we sat at the top of a beautiful waterfall and then the kids went swimming before it was time to begin the trek down.

Value for Money

Kids ride a mule in the Atlas Mountain range in Morocco on a guided tour

So, the million dollar question
does Trek Atlas provide value for money.  Well other than taking a dreadful group tour where you’ll find yourself rushed from one site to another along the busy tourist trail, you won’t find better value for money.

As we mentioned, we emailed several tour groups and Trek Atlas came out trumps on budget.  Not to mention, they were honest about the fees, transparent and there were no surprises or add-ons .

Sustainability Review

A child fills a lifestraw bottle from a water source in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco

One of my favourite subjects of course is sustainability around tourism.  And it’s clear that this is also of major importance to Ahmed.

He spoke of large cleanups around the village of Aroumd that take place after summer.  Many domestic tourists flock to the pretty riverside edge to picnic in Aroumd, but sadly leave their rubbish behind.  When summer finishes and the tourists leave, the villagers will clean up the mess.  While it’s sad to hear this happens in such a beautiful spot, it’s reassuring to know that the village come together to remove it.

It’s also important to note that when you book a tour through Trek Atlas you are supporting small business and supporting local.  By booking your Atlas Mountain tours directly through his website you are giving work to a guide, a muler, a cook, guest house and transport.  This means money goes directly to helping a community that heavily relies on tourism and sidesteps corporate platforms whom take a significant percentage.

On our Atlas Mountain Tour we used our trusty Lifestraw which we filled from the river. If you’d like to know more read our post on how we travel sustainably .

Plans for the Future

A view of the Atlas Mountain range from a terrace in Aroumd in Morocco on a family tour with Trek Atlas

Ahmed began creating a guest house before 2020, obviously that all went on hold with Covid.  But with tourism returning to Morocco, he is now getting back up and running.  His guest house has been built and is awaiting work to commence on the interior. And honestly, the views from his guest house terrace don’t get any better.

He also hopes that some of his children will follow in his footsteps as guides on the Atlas Mountains. But it’s a very challenging career, as training to be a guide becomes more complex. Despite the difficult and expensive training, we are sure that if his children share his determination they will continue in his path.

It’s clear Ahmed is a major role model in his children’s life and it was obvious that they have great respect for him. Another reason to support the beautiful Zin family.

Booking a Tour with Trek Atlas

A family celebrate their hiking tour in the Atlas Mountains

When you visit the Trek Atlas website you have the opportunity to browse the various options available. What we liked about his booking platform is that he makes recommendations based on the time of year you visit, your interests and number of days available. There are multiple hikes, destinations and services to choose from… be it snow, desert or mountain trekking.

So if you are considering an Atlas Mountain Tour, we thoroughly recommend Trek Atlas. You’ll be able to tailor your tour to your own trekking needs and you’ll leave Morocco with standout memories! Not to mention you are supporting an incredible guide and person… Ahmed and his tours of the Atlas Mountain is worth every penny.

Hello Sharon,

I am in the process of planning a trip to Morocco next September to hike in the Atlas Mountains. I read with interest your review of Trek Atlas and was very impressed. I followed the link to the Trek Atlas website but have had trouble trying to submit an inquiry form. I get a message that says, “unable to send email”. My computer indicates that it is an unsecure website which may be contributing to the problem. Would you happen to have an email address or phone number for Trek Atlas?

Thank you for any help you can offer!

Thanks so much for your comment. I just tried sending a message through the inquiry form and it wasn’t working for me either. I’ve messaged Ahmed and Chris to let them know. In the meantime, you can email Chris on [email protected] or Ahmed at [email protected] . I recommend you email both, as Chris can be busy at times. Happy trekking, and let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

Greetings Sharon. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to write such a good article about Ahmed and his company. Because of you, I found them amidst the souk full of choices. We just got back from a five-day, four-night trek in the Atlas Mountains with an ascent of Mt. Toubkal. What a joy it was to just have the group be us (two clients), the guide (Lahsn) and our support man (Hamed), who made sure the bulk of our gear got from one gite/refuge to the next. Most of all, he fed us amazing Moroccan food in the most spartan of settings. Chicken tagine with cured oranges on a mountain pass? Yep. Everyday he surprised us with tasty and hot meals to keep us going. Ahmed and Chris were great to work with and they really went above and beyond helping us make some purchases that really needed some local know-who to make happen. Overall, I can’t echo your sentiments enough. Thank you!

And I can’t tell you how your comment makes my heart sing! I had goosebumps as I read your message. From your words, I am able to picture your experience as though I was there. And I know how grateful and proud Ahmed would have been to show you his mountains. Thanks so much for sharing your experience Dave đŸ€

Hi Sharon, it was so nice to read your story. We went hiking with Ahmed and his guides and it was wonderfull :).

We did a tree day private tour and the guides did treat us very well. We felt safe all the time and we would recommend this to any mountain nature lover.

Having teo private guides and your food arranged! The price is definitely worth what you receive. 🙂

We just did a 6 night mountain and desert tour with Ahmed and his guides after reading your blog earlier this year. It went really great overall and everyone was extremely friendly to the kids (treated them amazingly kind the entire time). I should mention we were two couples and actually did everything with a 4 year old, 2 year old, and 9 month old. The mountains were our favourite and where Trek Atlas really shined. The desert drives were long and although the scenery was unexpectedly beautiful the entire way, the route feels much more touristy and less intimate than the mountains (and there were big tourist buses everywhere).

June 21, 2023 at 3:38 pm

Thanks for your message Ryan, it sounded as though it was a big trip with the littles! And I can imagine how you must have preferred the mountains… it definitely feels more off the beaten track… this area is also my favourite part of Morocco 🙂

Hi Ryan, thanks for your comments. We are currently trying to plan a combined tour with Trek Atlas in December and I’m curious to know which itinerary you went on. After leaving the Atlas mountains did you visit Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga? We’re keen to avoid the heavily touristy areas and are thinking Trek Atlas’s Camel Trek B might be the one to do https://trekatlas.com/treks/desert-tour-camel-trek-b Any advice greatly appreciated!

August 29, 2023 at 8:14 am

Hi Celia, thanks for your enquiry. I can’t comment regarding Ryan’s experience, but from our experience of slow travel in Morocco for several months, I think the reality is there is a lot of tourism in both Chebbi and Chigaga. This is because everyone who visits Morocco, wants to experience the Sahara desert. Naturally the big tourist buses roll in. However given that Chigaga is a bigger drive, less tourists are inclined to go that far south. We lived in Tagounite for a month, which is just north of Chigaga and we loved it, and I don’t recall as many tourists during our stay there. I’ve just looked at the Itinerary Camel Trek B that you shared, and it seems like a good option to me if you are happy with the drive (which is stunning by the way). But I suggest you talk to Ahmed and get his opinion, he’d probably know better. Happy travel planning!

August 31, 2023 at 8:44 pm

Thanks Sharon, so many decisions to make when you don’t have so much time! We’re in touch with Ahmed now, so planning away. Can’t wait for our time in Morocco and thank you so much for sharing your insights and practical advice- and for writing about Trek Atlas! We’re much happier to travel with a local company so our money stays in the country. All the best for you and your family, Celia

Hi, Sharon. I’m happy I found your article. sounds like a lovely experience! I just sent in an inquiry to see what’s possible.

I’m going to be in Marrakesh in July and thought a trip like this would be amazing. I see they now have a meditation option, too. Sounds v cool.

I was also considering going to one of the beaches, but…if time is too tight, I might opt for this over that. This sounds super special.

Hi Lisa, thanks for your message! I didn’t know about the meditation option… I’ll need to find out more about it and update the post xx

Hi Sharon – after reading your blog we booked a one day excursion with Ahmed (on July 3, 2023), We had very enjoyable day with a short hike from the village of Imlil to Ahmed’s village at the base of the Atlas mountains – our guide was Abdo – Ahmed’s nephew. Ahmed and his family are absolutely delightful. The trip was well planned and executed and the fresh cherries we picked from the family’s garden and the lunch cooked by Ahmed’s wife and daughter were delicious. I would highly recommend booking an excursion or trek with Trek Atlas as Ahmed is not only highly experenced, he is very committed to sustainable tourism and improving the skills and livelihoods of the local community. I’d love to experience one of the longer treks on offer. Next time!

August 9, 2023 at 11:52 pm

Thanks for your message Julie, I’m so glad to hear about your experience with Abdo and that you ate cherries as we did! I also look forward to returning for one of the longer hiking experiences… one day 😉

I enjoyed your article. Which specific tour did you do? We would be going in January. Any advice on which tour for the Atlas mountains?

September 24, 2023 at 10:49 pm

Thanks for your message Joanne! We tailored our trip to suit us as we were hiking with the kids. Following a few emails with Ahmed we narrowed in on a trip that worked for us, so I recommend that you reach out to Ahmed and give him an idea of your fitness levels and have him make recommendations. As ultimately it will depend on how much time you have, what you want to see and what your fitness levels are. There really are so many options 🙂 Hope this helps!

Hello! A friend and I are just wrapping up three weeks in Morocco and your blog posts and advice have been invaluable. Thank you for all the thoughtful tips across Morocco.

Most especially, we wanted to thank you for pointing us towards TrekAtlas (Ahmet Zin). The Atlas Mountain area is recovering, and they need the tourists to return.

Our Atlas trekking was the highlight of our trip (saying a lot given the a trip had so many amazing highlights). Ahmet handled logistics over WhatsApp, and then our wonderful guide Mohammed, two aids and two sweet mules guided us through the Atlas over seven days, trekking between villages, crossing two valleys, camping near streams, staying in rustic guest houses, and climbing Jbal Toubkal. We were told the route via Lake Ifni was unstable following the earthquake, so we took another path in. It was gorgeous. The green bounty and cold streams were unexpected. The apples (endless orchards!) were being harvested, and they were preparing to harvest the olives. Mohammed patiently answered a thousand questions, and shared his deep knowledge and love of the area. Our meals were amazing — better than so many restaurants in Marrakech. Toubkal was challenging (Mohammed extended it to two nights, appropriately assessing we couldn’t descend in one 10 hour day!). The trek was really customized for our capability and interests. We only wish we could come back in March and see it in the springtime with snow.

Thank you again for sharing your stories and advice with us!

November 20, 2023 at 10:53 pm

I’m so glad to hear that travellers are returning to the area following the earthquake, and that you enjoyed your experience! I’m also thrilled to hear that you my post helped connect you with Ahmed 🙂

Thanks to your website our family of 4 did a one day trek with Ahmed in the Atlas Mountains on 26 December 2023. Below is my feedback.

Ahmed was an amazing guide. Our one day private trek into the Atlas Mountains exceeded our expectations. From the moment we made contact with Ahmed he was responsive, helpful and reliable. Ahmed organised our transportation from our hotel in Marrakech to Imlil. Ahmed was knowledgeable, interesting, friendly, kind, easy to communicate with and created a memorable experience for all of us. He intuitively knew how to balance the interests of our group of mixed ages and interests. Our trek from Imlil to his Berber village passed through lovely scenery, walnut trees, other Berber villages, a waterfall and streams. He provided us with snacks along the way (local walnuts and dates trail mix) through beautiful and interesting scenery and ended the trek with the most delicious mint tea (water from the local spring) and a spread of lunch in his Berber family home that was delicious, generous and prepared with the utmost care. The atmosphere in the Berber village and the surrounding views was captivating. It was evident through Ahmed’s many interactions that he takes deep pride in his heritage and surroundings and that he cares for, involves and is respected by his entire community. This day was the highlight of our trip to Marrakech and we cannot recommend Ahmed highly enough as your guide. We nearly left this part of our trip out and in hindsight I am SO grateful that we didn’t – this will stay in our hearts and minds for a very long time. It is my understanding that he can tailor a trip for you based on any number of days and whether you would like to spend more time in the Atlas Mountains and/ or in the Sahara (the ‘real’ desert as he calls it!).

Atlas Mountains

When to go to Morocco

  • Sahara trekking

The giant of the Morocco trekking scene, there's little wonder that Toubkal and the Atlas Mountains are the country’s top hiking location.

Home to a majority Amazigh (Berber) population, life in the Atlas Mountains seems to have stood still. This is rural Morocco at its most evocative. Children run freely through valleys. Farmers, both men and women, tend to their plots of land. Donkeys provide a mode of transport for both young and old. Stony pathways wind through the mountains to villages not visible from main roads.

Standing atop of it all is the mighty Jebel (Mount) Toubkal which, at 4,167m, is North Africa's highest peak.

The Atlas (from which the Atlantic Ocean was named) is actually three ranges in one; the Middle Atlas in the country’s north, the High Atlas in central Morocco and the Anti-Atlas in the south. Each is drastically different and provides varied trekking options – even the colourful carpets produced by the many tribes are as diverse as the landscapes.

Agriculturally rich, the trees (apple, cherry, apricot, and even almond and walnut trees) begin to bloom in February throughout the Atlas, creating a riot of colours and smells. The region is popular year-round with locals, but the summer months see many Moroccans escape the heat of nearby Marrakech by heading to the mountains of Toubkal National Park.

By far the most popular trekking location in the Atlas is Toubkal National Park, an hour’s drive from Marrakech. People flock here to climb Jebel Toubkal, but there are many more trekking routes available across the Atlas Mountain ranges.

Ready to go? Here's my expert guide to trekking in the Atlas Mountains.

The best Atlas Mountains treks

Some popular – and lesser known – hikes.

In my opinion there's no beating the AĂŻt Bougmez Valley, in particular the M'goun Circuit. AĂŻt Bougmez draws a fraction of the visitors that come to the Toubkal region, but has some of the best hiking in the country. That said, all the following are well worth your consideration.

Mount (Jebel) Toubkal Circuit trek

Toubkal National Park

Mount (Jebel) Toubkal Circuit trek

The basic Jebel (Mount) Toubkal trek is typically marketed as a two day itinerary from Imil (or three days if departing from & returning to Marrakech). You’ll do two days of heavy hiking to reach Toubkal Base Camp. On the second morning you’ll make a pre-dawn push to catch sunrise from the summit, then turn around and descend 2,500 metres all the way back down. It’s rushed, gruelling and busy. A far more relaxed trek is the Toubkal Circuit, which is typically done in six days with the final ascent saved for last. If you’ve got the time I’d strongly recommend doing it the slow way.

M'goun Circuit trek

M'goun Circuit trek

Few visitors journey to Aït Bougmez, a valley running along the M’goun Massif in Morocco's Central High Atlas mountains. Those who do are rewarded with lush pastures, picturesque views across the valley and hospitable locals who don’t let language barriers get in the way—and some of the best hiking in Morocco. The M'goun Circuit trek follows the general routes of the nomadic Ait Atta tribes who circle around Mt M'goun to reach green pastures and a glacial lake where they reside for the summer months.

M’Goun Traverse

M’Goun Traverse

Horizonguides.

Also centred around the serene Aït Bougmez Valley, the M'Goun Traverse is a more challenging version of the M'Goun Circuit. At around 50 km, it’s one of the more challenging treks in the High Atlas. The pinnacle of the trek is the ascent to the M'Goun summit, the fourth-highest peak in Morocco. From its height of 4,071 metres, you’re treated to a panoramic view of the High Atlas range, a reward for the challenging climb. Descending from the summit, the trek continues through the fascinating Arous Valley, reaching its final point in the village of Boutghrar. Accommodation options are varied, including camping under the stars, mountain huts, and guesthouses.

Valley of the Roses trek

DadĂšs Valley

Valley of the Roses trek

Mohamed El Guellouti

Mohamed El Guellouti

The Valley of the Roses detours north from the Dadùs Valley at Kalaat M'Gouna and is the heart of Morocco’s rose growing country. This hike follows the M’goun river as it weaves past thick bushes of the valley’s namesake damask roses with a stunning backdrop of traditional Berber villages and the remains of hilltop kasbahs. It’s an easy-going hike at lower altitudes than other Atlas Mountain treks, suitable for all abilities. It’s usually four days’ hiking, with the option of extending the trip into the Dadùs Valley. Accommodation is in traditional gite-style homestays. Come in May to witness the rose harvest and local festivals.

Jebel Sirwa trek

Jebel Sirwa trek

The 3,305 metre Jebel Sirwa makes for a moderately challenging climb, mostly for the trail and sun conditions than the elevation gain itself. This trek involves about five days of hiking with mules and a mixture of wild camping and traditional gite homestays. The landscapes here are on the severe side, but the views over the Anti-Atlas range from Jebel Sirwa summit are incredible and even better: you’re unlikely to be sharing them with any other hikers.

Jebel Saghro Loop

Jebel Saghro Loop

Sarah Gilbert

Sarah Gilbert

The Jebel Saghro is a mountain range located in the Anti-Atlas region of Morocco, between the High Atlas and the Sahara Desert. Vast barren plains, rocky peaks and deep gorges create a dramatic landscape that is great for exploring by foot. The Jebel Saghro Loop is an off-the-beaten-path five-day trek that starts near Boumalne Dades and ends at Kalaat M’Gouna, passing through remote hamlets and palm groves, crisscrossing mule tracks and dry river beds. Guides are optional and it makes an ideal winter trek when other Moroccan ranges are covered in snow. The trek’s challenges are mainly the variable terrain and the lack of water sources along the route but with a lower altitude it’s generally less strenuous than some of the treks in the High Atlas region. Some highlights of the Jebel Saghro Circuit include the Bab n'Ali rock formations, the Afourer gorges, and the views from the top of Kouaouch. The trek also offers a chance to experience local Amazigh (Berber) culture, as the Jebel Saghro region is home to the Aït Atta tribe, one of the last nomadic tribes in Morocco.

AĂŻt Bougmez Valley

AĂŻt Bougmez Valley

In addition to the M'goun Circuit there are a variety of other treks and day hikes in the Aït Bougmez Valley. Marketed as the “Happy Valley” thanks to its tranquil beauty and serene vibes, it’s dotted by Berber villages and towns that make the cultural immersion as fascinating as the landscapes. The gentle slopes and walnut forests of the valley floor make for easy day hikes, whereas the surrounding peaks and ridges can offer more challenging treks. There’s a six day route from Agouti to the traditional village of Tabant, and an eight day route in the opposite direction from the Ouzoud waterfalls to Timit. Different operators offer their own specific routes, typically staying in simple gites or homestays.

Ouzoud waterfalls day hike

Tanaghmeilt

Ouzoud waterfalls day hike

An easy (and very popular) day hike in the AĂŻt Bougmez area is to the Ouzoud waterfalls, or Cascade Ouzoud as they're known locally. This hike makes for a pleasant day trip from Marrakech any time of the year. Located 2 Âœ hours drive from Marrakech, these stunning 110m waterfalls tumble down red rock cliffs. Start this easy hike at the top where the flowing river cascades into the basin 600m below. Follow the pathway down to the base of the waterfall, encountering cheeky Barbary macaques that will happily accept a peanut or two along the way. The trek takes about an hour, but sitting at the base and admiring the waterfalls from below and enjoying the cooling mist is satisfying. Travel agents organise both private and group excursions daily. The area is not accessible by public transport, but the local guest houses in Tanaghmeilt can arrange private transport for travellers wishing to extend their visit beyond one day.

AmeIn Valley day hikes

AmeIn Valley day hikes

The Berber heartland of Tafraoute, surrounded by the majestic rocky Anti-Atlas Mountains, provides a starting point for multi-day treks or day hikes through the beautiful AmeIn Valley. You don’t have to wander far from Tafraoute’s town centre to spot millennia-old rock carvings of animals that remain throughout the region. Longer day hikes through the argan trees, which only grow in southwestern Morocco, and almond trees dot the landscape as trekkers wander between the more than 20 villages that make up the valley. More experienced trekkers may opt for a multi-day trek that includes summiting Jebel Kest, the region’s highest peak, before returning to Tafraoute. Don’t miss the light over the rockscape as the sun sets and the range radiates magical hues of red. The craggy rock and huge boulders around Tafraoute make the region very popular with rock climbers, who descend on the region between September and April. Combine some climbing with hiking in Morocco.

Todgha Gorge day hikes

Todra Gorge

Todgha Gorge day hikes

Located in the eastern part of the Atlas Mountains and carved between the Todra and Dadùs rivers, Todgha Gorge is a 300m deep fault that offers several excellent hiking routes. Guides in Todgha Gorge are familiar with a day hike that leads to a nomadic family’s settlement, far from the village of Tinghir, which is often overrun with tour buses. Leave the mudbrick village and lush farmland behind, wander through the limestone gorge and river that runs alongside, and begin the ascent to the rocky mountains that wind their way up along unexpected trails. Views from the top provide stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape. With only minimal scrub bush, start the hike early to avoid the heat of the midday sun. A guide is a must as are sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water.

DadĂšs Valley day hikes

DadĂšs Valley day hikes

The backdrop to the picturesque Dadùs Valley leading to the Dadùs Gorge is one of mesmerising rock formations, known locally as the ‘monkey fingers’. Often a short stopover en route to the Sahara Desert, it’s worth scheduling at least a half-day trek climbing through the rocks, lush valleys and little bridges with the river running beneath. A local guide is a must as the paths are unmarked. Bus agencies drop passengers in the nearby town of Boulemane and comfortable hostels are available throughout the valley and closer to the gorge.

Tichka Plateau Traverse

Tichka Plateau Traverse

The Tichka Plateau Traverse is a two-day trek covering around 40 km and set in the dramatic Atlas Mountains of Morocco. A moderate hike, it offers breathtaking panoramas and a unique insight into Berber life. The route begins at Tizi-n-Tichka, the highest major mountain pass in North Africa, ending in Telouet, a small village with a historic Kasbah. The trail unveils an otherworldly landscape of stark, sun-baked mountains dotted with green valleys, winding rivers, and small Berber villages. The traverse explores the wide-open expanse of the Tichka Plateau, noted for its sparse vegetation and lunar-like vistas. If you like solitude, this hike is perfect, as the high plateau is one of the most remote areas in the Atlas Mountains. The trek finishes with a visit to the Kasbah of Telouet, a palace once owned by a powerful feudal lord. Accommodation ranges from camping under the stars to local gĂźtes.

Our experts' top picks.

Toubkal National Park

Best trek: Toubkal Circuit (six days)

No round-up of Morocco trekking highlights can ignore Toubkal National Park in the High Atlas Range, the highest and most extensive stretch of the Atlas Mountains.

Home to Jebel (Mount) Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak, this is by far Morocco's most popular hiking destination. It's a region of sparse, rocky and snow-capped (in winter) peaks and lush green valleys below with blossoming fruit trees in the spring, which make for some excellent trekking and hiking, although one that draws significant crowds.

While the tourism industry likes to push the two-day Mt Toubkal trek, I'd highly recommend making time for the six-day Toubkal Circuit trek.

The trailhead is just beyond the village of Imlil, where most visitors disembark to start their hike. Hiring a guide to accompany non-locals on the journey is a must, in fact, it’s mandatory. I’d suggest hiring an official guide to avoid any faux guides who may be hanging around en route. Licensed guides are typically local and undergo training to earn their certification to help trekkers navigate the way, the weather and organise supplies for the journey.

For a shorter hike, depart Imlil to wander through lush green valleys, climbing up to one of the mountainside Amazigh villages or an approximately six-hour trek to Sidi Chamharouch, a pre-Islamic pilgrimage site known for healing health issues or exorcising spirits.

From Marrakech, a day trip to Ouzoud Waterfalls makes for a refreshing day out. The trail is easily marked, meaning just organise transport and you can easily follow the path to the canyon where two-tiered waterfalls cascade. Be mindful of the Barbary apes you may encounter while passing through the shaded areas.

AĂŻt Bougmez Valley & M'goun Massif

Ait Bougmez Valley

AĂŻt bougmez valley & m'goun massif, best trek: m'goun circuit trek (five days).

Few hikers make it to Aït Bougmez, a valley running along the M'goun Massif in Morocco's Central High Atlas mountains. Those who do are rewarded with lush pastures, picturesque views across the valley and hospitable locals who don’t let language barriers get in the way—and some of the best trekking in Morocco.

Every spring, the nomadic Ait Atta tribes make a two-week trek to the Aït Bougmez Valley. Once here, they graze their herds in the valley’s rich pastures and sparkling rivers fed from glacial lakes before returning home for the winter. Avid trekkers can join for the transhumance (livestock migration), an activity that may be best done sooner rather than later given the decline of traditional nomadic life.

The village of Agouti is the starting point for a scenic three- or six-day trek to the M’Goun Massif, the second highest peak in Morocco (after Jebel Toubkal in the nearby Toubkal National Park).

Hire a mountain guide to accompany you and plan to stay in gites along the way. This trek is best done from spring to fall, before the harsh winters descend on the valley.

Staying in the valley provides opportunity for day treks to a glacial lake where nomadic tribes graze their herds in the summer months, or multi-day treks traversing the valley. With little signage and few restaurants, it is best to visit with a Morocco trekking operator, or find your own trekking guide locally who will also coordinate muleteers and piping hot cuisine along the way.

Tafraoute & AmeIn Valley

Tafraoute & AmeIn Valley

The Anti-Atlas Mountain town of Tafraoute, gateway to the stunning AmeIn Valley, is worth a visit for a night or two allowing for at least a day hike, or just a break for travellers heading to/from the Sahara Desert. Famous for its almonds, colourful babouche slippers particular to the region, and even as a starting point for cycling up to the blue rocks and spotting prehistoric rock carvings. The town hosts an almond blossom festival, typically in February although the dates vary, which includes folklore displays to celebrate the harvest. The town is accessible by national bus companies.

Todgha Gorge

Todgha Gorge

Todgha (or Todra as it is sometimes spelt) Gorge has become something of a tourist hotspot with locals selling carpets, fossils, and other finds as visitors wander amongst the limestone canons and cafes lining the riverbed. A number of three-star guest houses provide the perfect base for leisurely wanders through the palm groves or a longer trek through the mountains where nomadic families are known to reside. National bus companies provide service to this region daily.

Trekking in the Atlas Mountains: Need to know

Everything you wish you'd known before you booked, look beyond toubkal.

As is often the case with the tourism industry, most operators chase the demand for Mount Toubkal, at the unfortunate expense of other equally impressive locations and experiences.

Few visitors journey to Ait Bougmez, a valley running along the Mgoun Massif in Morocco's Central High Atlas mountains. Those who do are rewarded with lush pastures, picturesque views across the valley and hospitable locals who don’t let language barriers get in the way—and some of the best hiking in Morocco.

In the spring, nomadic Ait Atta tribes from the south hike across Mount Mgoun (the second highest mountain in the Atlas region) to reach green pastures and a glacial lake where they reside for the summer months. Mount Mgoun is exactly 100 m lower than Mount Toubkal but receives 25% fewer visitors.

Experienced hikers can join the trek as donkeys and mules carry supplies and accompany the nomads along with their herds, spending between three to four days hiking in Ait Bougmez.

The region’s remoteness (it’s a six-hour drive from Marrakech or 3 Âœ hours from Beni Mellal) means that most visitors choose to base themselves in Ait Bougmez’s main town of Tabant during their stay, which offers a number of gites and hotels.

Day hikes in Ait Bougmez can be organised from the nearby Touda EcoLodge. Head out for a pleasant wander along the dirt treks winding through villages, green farmland and crumbling kasbahs.

For a more moderate full-day option, you can trek through juniper forests and rugged terrain to reach the glacial Lake Izourar. The return across the rocky trail returns to the small village where the Touda EcoLodge is located. Trekking boots are strongly advised.

The roads leading to the valley can be difficult to traverse during winter months. So, come during the warmer months between April and November.

Trekking solo vs guided

Guides became mandatory in the Toubkal region from 2018 after a grisly incident involving the death of two Western tourists, but post-COVID this requirement appears to have been informally loosened.

Consider however that beyond the Toubkal trek very little of any foreign language is spoken in rural Morocco – often including at local guesthouses and refuges – so having a guide for cultural and linguistic interpretation will add to the experience beyond just basic navigational and safety considerations.

Given the unmarked paths, unfamiliar terrain and language barriers, I generally recommend hiring a guide or booking your trek through a tour operator. Good quality guides often hail from the local region and can navigate the diverse terrains, language barriers and unexpected weather changes. They also often have the contacts to provide access to encounters with locals one may not otherwise experience, such as visiting villages, finding amazing artisans or hiking alternative routes.

Whether venturing off on a full- or multi-day trek, don’t be surprised if your host prepares a piping hot pot of mint tea in the middle of a lush green valley, shares fruits from the region depending on the season, or presents fresh bread and hot tajine to enjoy. A donkey often accompanies trekkers carrying supplies for the journey along with trekkers’ luggage.

Weekly markets are held in busier towns across rural Morocco and provide an opportunity for locals from the surrounding villages to stock up on goods for the week – fresh produce and meats, dry goods and spices, and supplies for daily life. In the middle of the action, there is sure to be a tent supplying sfenj doughnuts and smoky grills preparing mouth-watering meats and vegetables to stuff into a fresh loaf of bread when hunger strikes.

Atlas trekking FAQs

Your questions, our expert answers, when is the best time to trek in the atlas mountains.

Overall, I recommend trekking in either spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November). In spring, the weather is generally mild, and the mountains are beautifully adorned with blooming wildflowers. The snow from winter has usually melted at lower altitudes, making the trails more accessible. In autumn, the weather is similarly mild and stable, making for comfortable trekking conditions. The autumn colours can also make the landscapes particularly scenic.

The summer months (July and August) can be very hot, especially in the lower valleys, but it's still a good time for high-altitude treks like Mount Toubkal, where temperatures are cooler.

Winter (December to February) brings snow and cold weather, which can make high-altitude treks more challenging due to the need for winter gear and experience in snowy conditions. However, for experienced winter trekkers, this can provide a different kind of adventure.

Trekking in the Atlas Mountains (3 days)

The Toubkal National Park is the ideal place for hiking in the Marrakech region. If you go on a guided trekking tour, you’ll experience the Atlas Mountains first-hand against the breath-taking backdrop of snow-capped peaks, luscious valleys and secluded Berber villages.

Trekking tour in the High Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Marrakech lies near the High Atlas Mountains. It’s so close that you can see the snow-capped peaks when looking out from the city’s roof terraces. If you fancy a change from the hustle and bustle of the medina and a different type of countryside adventure, driving to the neighbouring mountains and going on a trek is a great choice. As it’s close by, you won’t have to spend too long travelling there either.

Guided trekking in the Atlas Mountains

Our trekking tour started in Imlil, now a famous starting point for climbing the 4,167m Djebel Toubkal , the highest mountain in North Africa. However, rather than trekking along this rather busy “mountain highway”, we chose to hike through a more remote and less populated mountainous area.

There were three of us on the tour, as well as a professional mountain guide, a cook and another helper who took good care of the mules. Mules are essential because you won’t find any guesthouses, restaurants or proper shops on this route. Therefore, at the start of our journey, we packed all equipment and food for the next three days. Also, the mules carried most of our personal belongings so we didn’t have to carry these in our daypacks and so leaving us free to trek light.

Route of our trekking tour in the Atlas Mountains

Click to see more route details of our route for the trekking in the Atlas Mountains

During our trek, we ascended to a maximum of 2,487 meters, which isn’t too extreme. In terms of scenery, this route is better and is also less exhausting than the ascent to Djebel Toubkal. It’s also a better route for families to tackle, as well as anyone who suffers from altitude sickness.

A Moroccan travel agency organises this 3-day tour, which can be booked online at Getyourguide . All you then need to do is arrive at the meeting point on time and then you’ll enjoy the magnificent surroundings over the next few days.

Day 1: Imlil – Tinerhourhine (Trekking time: approx. 5 hours)

We left Marrakech from the south and our tour began with a 90-minute minibus journey to Imlil, which lies at an altitude of 1,740 metres. Upon arriving, we met our guide and his two helpers and discussed the finer details of our trek over a cup of tea. Then we loaded up our bags and set off.

After a two-hour climb through a pine grove, we reached the 2,280-metre high Tamatert Pass, where we stopped to enjoy lunch with a view over the Ouaneskra Valley and its terraced gardens. Then, our route took us around the valley and through two isolated Berber villages. We spent the first night in a simple GĂźte d’Ă©tape in a little village called Tinerhourhine at an altitude of 1,600 metres. Our accommodation was basic but cosy and, from the terrace, we had a spectacular evening view of the mountain range at the end of the valley.

Day 2 Tinerhourhine – AĂŻt AĂŻssa (Trekking time: approx. 7 hours)

The second day took us through the Imnane Valley. By midday, we’d reached the Aguersioual Pass at an altitude of 2,020 metres where we enjoyed some amazing views. After our descent into the VallĂ©e de Imlil, we found our cook, Hassan, already waiting for us with lunch. He’d made a delicious tagine and salad. It’s interesting to note that the support team and mules left before us in the mornings and got ahead. This meant that we never had to wait and so enjoyed the luxury of arriving to the wonderful aroma of lunch that was promptly served.

After our break in the VallĂ©e de Imlil, we embarked upon the most scenic leg of our hike. Our route took us up the winding Tizi Oudite path to an altitude of 2,219 metres. Here, we walked through small groves of Phoenician juniper, high up on the pass. At the top, we stopped on a grassy meadow for a short rest. Then, we climbed another few hundred meters to our destination — the tiny AĂŻt AĂŻssa Berber village at an altitude of 1,800 metres. Here, we spent the night in a comfortable little GĂźte d’Ă©tape. Naturally, we had panoramic mountain views to enjoy from the roof terrace and we took photos of the clear starry sky.

Day 3 AĂŻt AĂŻssa – Imlil (Trekking time: approx. 4 hours)

Sadly, the final day arrived and we had to return to Imlil. We left AĂŻt AĂŻssa early in the morning and began our gentle ascent to Tizi Oussem at an altitude of 1,900 metres. From here, we were able to see the last climb of our trek. The leg across the Mzik Pass at an altitude of 2,400 metres required some stamina but we were rewarded with a breath-taking view over the mountains and valleys of the Atlas Mountains.

In the distance, we could already make out the final destination of our tour but, before arriving in Imlil, we still had 700 meters to descend into the valley. So, it would be another hour before we sat down with our team on our roof terrace in Imlil to enjoy a freshly prepared tagine and chat about our tour. After lunch, we packed our luggage in the van and returned to Marrakech, tired but in good spirits.

Atlas-Mountains, Morocco

The trek, itinerary and organisation

This trekking tour is all-inclusive and everything is organised for you in advance. As a participant, you really don’t have anything to worry about.

The entire tour was perfectly organised and co-ordinated. Three weeks before departure, the organiser contacted us with all the relevant information about the venue and equipment. While trekking, we were never unnecessarily delayed. This included the punctual transfers to the meals, which were ready and waiting for our group when we arrived. One of our group was vegetarian and was also well catered for.

Our guide grew up in Imlil and lives there so he knows this region inside out and could easily make slight changes to the tour while we were on the way. He’s a professional mountain guide and can adapt the trek to suit the weather conditions (snow) and the walking speed of the group. He spoke English and French and always took time to patiently answer our questions about life in the High Atlas. He also took our individual needs into account, which definitely contributed to an unforgettable experience.

The time to go trekking in the High Atlas

Even in summer, you may see snow on the summits of the High Atlas Mountains. However, unlike climbing the Djebel Toubkal, you can go on this trekking tour all year without needing any snow equipment. The route lies at a lower altitude and the highest point is 1,700 metres below the Toubkal summit. Also, you can take many different routes using the little mountain paths. So, even in the winter months, you can choose routes that are clear of snow.

This trekking tour runs all year; however, when you go, be aware that you’re in the mountains so don’t underestimate the altitude and potentially low temperatures. In winter, it can freeze at night, so warm clothes are recommended, especially in the evenings. It’s a different matter in the summer when you should prioritise sun protection rather than worrying about the cold at night.

The Atlas Mountains look their best during the green months between March and November. The winter changes the appearance of the high mountains with snow-shrouded peaks that create a magical winter sports panorama.

Accommodation

There are no public guesthouses or hotels on the tour. You’ll spend the two nights in GĂźtes d’Ă©tapes that belong to the local and self-governing Mountain Guide Association. These are very simple yet comfortable and have several bedrooms with beds or mattresses. You really need to take your own sleeping bag but, if this isn’t enough, the huts provide woollen blankets.

Equipment and luggage

Since most of your luggage is carried by donkeys on this trekking tour, it’s a good idea to carry two bags with you or swap these around between the people in your group. Ideally, you let the donkeys carry everything you don’t need during the day and carry the rest of your equipment and some water in a daypack.

Items you definitely need to pack:

  • Walking boots
  • A sleeping bag
  • Warm clothing
  • Sun protection
  • water bottle
  • Toilet paper

This list covers the essentials. You might also find the following useful: trekking poles, a small first-aid kit (your guide will have one too, of course), blister plasters and gloves (in winter).

Trekking in the Toubkal National Park, Morocco

Level of difficulty and suitability for families

In terms of the level of difficulty, this trekking tour is actually fairly easy. Most of the time, you’ll find yourself walking on little mountain paths. These can sometimes be steep but you never need to actually rock climb. You don’t need any special equipment or experience in the mountains.

The simplicity of this tour is largely down to the fact that mules carry most of your luggage and you only need to walk with a light daypack. You don’t have to be a fit athlete to go on this trekking tour. Of course, it will help it you’re healthy and don’t underestimate the climbs and descents during the three daily stages.

This hike is family-friendly and the mountain guides are experienced in taking children on their tours. If, for example, children in your group are very young, the stages can be modified so the group walks along with the mules. If a child finds it hard to walk at any point, he or she can ride on a donkey. In a nutshell, parents who would like to take children on this trek should ensure that their offspring are confident with walking and enjoy being in the great outdoors.

Conclusion: A great tour, perfectly organised and easy to plan

We’ll remember this trekking tour in the Atlas Mountains as a great outdoor experience. It was a stark contrast to the bustling everyday life in Marrakech, with a mixture of impressive scenery and the opportunity to take some exercise. Also, you don’t have to travel as far to get there as you would on trip to the Erg Chebbi desert .

If you want to go on a trekking tour for a few days during your holiday and don’t want too much planning or the hassle of carrying lots of equipment with you, this experience is an excellent choice. This trek is ideal for families who may worry that the city of Marrakech is too much for their children and prefer to venture out into the countryside,

Price and booking

The trek costs 280 Euros per person and this includes everything the tour offers, except tips for the support team. This price includes transfers to and from Marrakech as well as the guide, the cook, the donkey man, two nights in the gĂźtes d’etapes and all meals.

You can book this tour in the Atlas Mountains online using Getyourguide . Upon booking, you can enter your Marrakech hotel address if you want the minibus to pick you up. After you’ve received confirmation, the travel agency will contact you with further details about the tour.

The Atlas mountain range, which runs through Morocco, is home to some of the highest peaks in North Africa, including Mt. Toubkal, and the country is home to a vast network of trails that offer breathtaking views of these towering mountains.

One of the best things about trekking in Morocco is the diverse range available routes, ranging from easy day hikes to challenging multi-day treks. Some of the most popular treks in Morocco include the Toubkal Circuit trek & berber villages,

More About The High Atlas

The High Atlas, also called the Grand Atlas, is a mountain range in central Morocco, North Africa, the highest part of the Atlas Mountains.

The High Atlas rises in the west at the Atlantic Ocean and stretches in an eastern direction to the Moroccan-Algerian border. At the Atlantic and to the southwest the range drops abruptly and makes an impressive transition to the coast and the Anti-Atlas range. To the north, in the direction of Marrakech, the range descends less abruptly.

The range includes Jbel Toubkal, which at 4,167 m (2.589 mi; 13,671 ft) is the highest in the range and lies in Toubkal National Park. The range serves as a weather system barrier in Morocco running east–west and separating the Sahara from the Mediterranean and continental zones to the north and west. In the higher elevations of the massif, snow falls regularly, allowing winter sports. Snow lasts well into late spring in the High Atlas, mostly on the northern faces of the range. On the Western High Atlas, there is Oukaïmeden, one of three main ski stations in Morocco.

The High Atlas forms the basins for a multiplicity of river systems. The majority of the year-round rivers flow to the north, providing the basis for the settlements there. A number of wadis and seasonal rivers terminate in the deserts to the south and plateaux to the east of the mountains.

The High-Atlas Mountains are inhabited by Berbers, who live from agriculture and pastoralism in the valleys. In the steppe zone of the High-Atlas, where precipitations are low, the locals created a smart technique in managing the low precipitations and the weak soil. They turn the rather semi-arid lands into fertile valleys called locally by Agdal (garden in Berber). This technique has intrigued many Western agriculturalists, in which they were impressed by the high efficiency of this agricultural system. Many scientists, particularly French scientists, make yearly expeditions to observe the community and their living system.

We had a fantastic experience on our recent trip from Marrakech to the High Atlas Mountains, which exceeded our expectations. The driver was on time and took us straight to the mountains. We dressed in traditional attire for a camel ride and enjoyed Moroccan tea on a rooftop. The journey continued further up the mountains where we stopped to admire breathtaking views. We visited a women’s cooperative to learn how they produce various oils and enjoyed a breakfast of fresh bread and oils there. Our adventure also took us to Imlil, where we embarked on a leisurely 2.6-kilometer hike to a picturesque waterfall. The highlight was having lunch with the stunning peak of the Atlas Mountains in sight. Ali our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating, and made sure our experience was unforgettable. A big thank you to Ali and our driver for a truly memorable day!

It was truly a wonderful and fresh adventure that I would enthusiastically suggest to everyone. Our driver, Mohamed, was an outstanding tour guide who ensured we felt right at home and shared all the important details with us. He truly elevated the experience beyond our expectations. We gathered at a designated spot and then embarked on a journey to the Agafay desert, where we not only enjoyed tea but also had the chance to ride camels. After that, we had the incredible opportunity to meet a local family of berbers who graciously taught us the art of making authentic Moroccan tea. Moving forward, we ventured into the stunning Atlas Mountains, treating ourselves to a captivating tour of the mountainous region. And to top it all off, we indulged in a delicious tagine meal with a breathtaking view of the mountains.

Ignacio Rojas

I highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Marrakech! Our guide, Hassan, was absolutely fantastic. He led us to a local Berber friend’s house for an incredible Moroccan breakfast, where we got a firsthand look at their lifestyle and learned about their daily routines. We had numerous chances to take memorable photos. We journeyed through the Agafay desert and continued to the Atlas Mountains, which offered stunning views. Hassan even took us to his family’s home in the Atlas Mountains, treating us to tea with breathtaking vistas. We enjoyed a short walk to witness a beautiful waterfall as well. The day also included a Moroccan lunch in a charming mountain town, with more opportunities for photos. We explored a women’s cooperative and wrapped up the day with a camel ride. This jeep safari is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the Berber way of life, guided by someone knowledgeable and friendly!

Arata Tanaka

We had a fantastic outing with our guide, LAhcen! He skillfully highlighted the key aspects of the excursion and accommodated our preferences throughout the day. His driving was excellent, and he provided valuable assistance. Thanks once more!

Luciano Costa

Our guide was really friendly and did a great job explaining the various villages and places we visited. We had a quick stop at a shop where they produce argan products, and we got to taste tea, oil, and honey. When we reached the Atlas Mountains, we visited a Berber house and even got to prepare a tagine ourselves. In the afternoon, we explored the Agafay desert, taking photos and going on a 4×4 adventure. I highly recommend this! Many thanks to Ali for making this day so wonderful.
