Bruno Mars Will Open The New Allianz Stadium With Two Massive Shows

“Australia! LET’S DANCE!”

More Bruno Mars

US hitmaker Bruno Mars will return to Australia in October for two exclusive Sydney shows.

The massive events will open the brand-new Allianz Stadium, with Mars confirmed to perform at the venue on October 14 and 15.

“Australia! LET’S DANCE!” Mars said.

Paul Dainty AM, President and CEO of TEG Dainty, added: “It’s incredibly exciting to welcome audiences back to Allianz Stadium in the heart of Sydney and who better to lead the opening celebrations than the legendary, record-breaking artist Bruno Mars, these opening shows will go down in history as not to be missed!”

The singer’s last trip to the country was in 2018 on the 24K Magic run, with The Music noting of his Sydney show at the time : “Mars was able to leave a diverse, all-ages crowd satisfied with his funk and soul-infused pop and proved to Sydney fans how capable he is of putting on a fun, entertaining arena show.”

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Last month when Mars’ return was rumoured, Racing NSW boss Peter V'landys lashed out as the singer’s return would clash with a major horse racing event.

V'landys was fuming after learning of plans by the NSW government to stage a Mars concert at the recently renovated Sydney Football Stadium on October 15, clashing with the $15 million Everest, a race event that he thinks will attract the same market as Mars, taking money away from his gambling bonanza.

Speaking on 2GB, the Racing New South Wales Chief Executive labelled the plan as "stupid". V'landys made the comments in a bizarre outburst on Ben Fordham Live .

V'landys was on the warpath to defend the Everest, saying, "We developed it ourselves … why would you undermine us?! I’m just in disbelief. You would never see the Victorian Government put a pop concert on the same day as the AFL Grand Final.”

This drew a retort from NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres who stated, “Global cities can do multiple things at once. New York wouldn’t cancel the Yankees because Billy Joel was playing at Madison Square Garden.”

This comparison only served to further enrage V'landys who shot back, saying, "New York has the infrastructure, and New York has the population. Sydney does not have the population of New York and it does not have the transport infrastructure. We've got a world class stadium that they've built. Why would you have all the residents offside early, by causing them maximum inconvenience?

“Why would you divide Sydney into deciding where to go? We’ve worked very hard to bring an event to Sydney, it’s a home-grown event. We’ve established it, we’ve got interstate visitors, international visitors.”

Recently, Bruno Mars claimed Album Of The Year at the 2022 BET Awards for An Evening With Silk Sonic , his collab with Anderson .Paak.

The celebrated artist isn’t short of acclaim in Australia, with albums Doo-Wops & Hooligans 6 x Platinum, Unorthodox Jukebox 4 x Platinum and 24K Magic 2 x Platinum, while his single releases in Australia have reached 56 x Platinum sales.

For the upcoming dates, Telstra Plus pre-sale commences at 1pm on Monday 8 August ahead of general public tickets on sale from 1pm on Thursday 11 August.

Bruno Mars announces two Sydney shows to launch Allianz Stadium

Mars will help open the newly-constructed stadium with a pair of concerts in October

Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars has announced a pair of Australian shows for this October to launch the newly-constructed Allianz Stadium in the Moore Park area of Sydney.

  • READ MORE: Silk Sonic – ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’ review: an unashamedly retro delight

Mars will perform concerts at the venue on October 14 and 15. They will mark his first Australian shows since his 2018, when he toured in support of his most recent solo album, ’24K Magic’. Tickets will go on sale next Thursday (August 11) at 1pm, with a Telstra Plus pre-sale commencing a few days earlier next Monday (August 8.)

“It’s incredibly exciting to welcome audiences back to Allianz Stadium in the heart of Sydney,” commented Paul Dainty, President and CEO of promoters TEG Dainty. “Who better to lead the opening celebrations than the legendary, record-breaking artist Bruno Mars.”

Construction on Allianz Stadium began in 2020, taking place on what was previously the site of the Sydney Football Stadium (known as Allianz Stadium from 2012). That was demolished in 2019 following a contentious political debate surrounding that year’s state election. The new stadium is set to host large-scale live music and sporting events, with a capacity of 42,500.

News of Mars’ upcoming concerts at the stadium were first revealed last month, when Racing NSW boss Peter V’landys accused the NSW government of “undermining” the upcoming Everest horse race, which is set to take place at the nearby Randwick Racecourse the same day as Mars’ second concert on October 15.

NSW Tourism Minister defended the decision to hold both events, telling 2GB : “Global cities can do multiple things at once. New York wouldn’t cancel the Yankees because Billy Joel was playing at Madison Square Garden.”

Mars has had a big year thus far, following the release of ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’, the debut album from his project with Anderson .Paak , Silk Sonic . In late February, the duo kicked off a Las Vegas residency at Park MGM. Originally set to run until April 2, a second leg took place in May, with a third commencing this month.

In April, the Silk Sonic opened the 2022 Grammy Awards with a performance of their song ‘777’. They received four wins at the award ceremony, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, all for their single ‘Leave the Door Open’. The duo also performed a cover of Con Funk Shun’s ‘Love’s Train’ at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, where they won Top R&B Song, also for ‘Leave the Door Open’.

Bruno Mars said "Australia! LET'S DANCE!"

PAUL DAINTY AM, President and CEO of TEG DAINTY, said, "It's incredibly exciting to welcome audiences back to Allianz Stadium in the heart of Sydney and who better to lead the opening celebrations than the legendary, record-breaking artist Bruno Mars , these opening shows will go down in history as not to be missed!"

Fourteen-time GRAMMY Award winner and thirty-time GRAMMY Award nominee Bruno Mars is a celebrated singer, songwriter, producer, and musician who has sold over 200 million singles worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time.

Recently Mars accepted Album Of The Year on behalf of the duo An Evening with Silk Sonic during the 2022 BET Awards. Previously sweeping the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards, the super duo took home four awards including Record Of The Year "Leave The Door Open", Song Of The Year "Leave The Door Open", Best R&B Performance "Leave The Door Open", and Best R&B Song "Leave The Door Open".

This comes after "Leave The Door Open" becomes Bruno's 17th song to reach Multi-Platinum status. Mars' 64th Annual GRAMMY win for Record of the Year, makes him only the second artist in Grammy history to win the category three times, following Simon and Garfunkel.

Bruno's critically acclaimed "Leave The Door Open" climbed its' way from No. 3 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his eighth No. 1. He became one of the 18 artists in Hot 100 history to ever do so. 24K Magic marked his highest first week sales debut, remaining in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 for an impressive 44 consecutive weeks.

The lead hit single "24K Magic" is certified four times Platinum by the RIAA and the follow-up smash, "That's What I Like" is certified Diamond. Bruno recently broke the record for most Diamond certified songs in RIAA history with five Diamond certifications. .

"That's What I Like" also climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Mars' seventh Hot 100 chart-topper and his first No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs chart, where it remained at the top-spot for 19 consecutive weeks. His smash collab with Cardi B, "Finesse," skyrocketed to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The track surged up the chart from its #35 debut and followed Michael Jackson 's "Black or White" as the second #35 to #3 jump in the Hot 100's history. The remix also marked Mars' fifteenth Hot 100 top 10 and fourteenth Hot 100 top 5.

Additionally, Mars became the first male and third act overall to have at least three top 5 Hot 100 hits from each of his first three albums, following only Mariah Carey and Beyoncé. Bruno is also the first artist to have two songs spend 24 or more weeks in the Hot 100's Top 5 "That's What I Like" and "Uptown Funk".

Honorably, Mars is one of the few artists to have written and produced all of his No. 1 hits and has had a No. 1 song on the Hot 100 from each of his first three studio albums. Mars traveled the globe from 2017-2018 on a massive 24K Magic World Tour, which sold more than 1 million tickets in a single day. In 2015, Bruno dominated music charts with the hit single "Uptown Funk," which took home three GRAMMY Awards, including Record of the Year.

In Australia, Mars has raked up multi-platinum sales with all of his single and album releases which include the albums Doo-Wops and Hooligans 6 x Platinum, Unorthodox Jukebox 4 x Platinum and 24K Magic 2 x Platinum. His single releases in Australia combined have notched up an incredible 56 x Platinum sales. Bruno boasts 773 million streams in Australia and has completed 3 sold out tours.

Bruno Mars Is Opening Sydney’s $828 Million Allianz Stadium With Two Concerts

Bruno Mars Is Opening Sydney’s $828 Million Allianz Stadium With Two Concerts

Chris Singh

With the grand unveiling of Allianz Stadium just a few months away, it seems the Sydney Football Stadium’s $828 million redesign is receiving quite the opening ceremony in the form of not one, but two concerts from outrageously popular showman Bruno Mars. And considering the hitmaker has sold out all three of his most recent Australian tours, having him perform exclusively to mark the occasion certainly ain’t a bad catch for the state government.

Bruno Mars will be the very first performer to officially play at Allianz Stadium shortly after the venue opens, locking in two back-to-back shows in mid-October — his first in Australia since 2018. While it’ll be the first major concert to really test the limits of the new stadium, a smaller free-entry concert will serve as a smaller opener for the 45,000-capacity venue a few weeks earlier, headlined by Guy Sebastian and Baker Boy on August 28th. In terms of sport, Allianz Stadium will host its first NRL match – Roosters v South Sydney – on September 2nd.

The new Allianz Stadium will have three major tenants moving forward. Those being the Sydney Roosters, New South Wales Waratahs, and Sydney FC. But there should also be a very long and large-scale roster of concerts as well. Already, we know that Elton John will perform his final Sydney show ever there on January 18th and Justin Bieber is also scheduled to take the stage just a month after Mars on November 29th.

The arrival of Allianz Stadium and the inevitable list of touring musicians should be welcome news for anyone tired of trudging out to Olympic Park just to see some of the world’s biggest artists at Accor Stadium and Qudos Bank Arena. These venues will still be receiving their fair share of headlining acts, such as The Killers , Arctic Monkeys and Dua Lipa, of course. While Allianz Stadium can fit almost 50,000 punters, Accor Stadium still has the largest capacity at just over 80,000.

I spent $256 on a ticket and flew from Florida to Las Vegas to see this fiasco of a show. The show was supposed to start at 9. The curtain finally rose at almost 9:30. The drums and bass were so loud, little of the vocals could be heard. The band was off several times, there was limited choreography, 2 solos (drum and piano, neither of which were Bruno, OBVIOUS TIME FILLERS), and the show lasted one hour and 15 minutes. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!! IT SUCKED!! I am used to hearing songs sung at concerts, not stopped mid-way to laugh and joke. Bruno Mars needs to go to some REAL concerts so he can see how to please his PAYING AUDIENCE. Go get some lessons from Pink, Elton John, who ever, Bruno, cause your show is a joke!!

The Bruno Mars concert was amazing! The only fault that I would say is that there was a lot of waiting Dua Lipa was right on time and it felt like when’s Bruno coming?! Then after Dua Lipa we had to wait for them to set Bruno up which felt like forever, but when he was out there it was amazing he had fireworks and amazing dance moves and his singing was just amazing. He even added some comedy in there, and he was putting his absolute all you could see by the sweat on his body. After we thought it was over but he surprised us with an extra song :) it was an experience of a lifetime and I must say for my first concert it was A M A Z I N G ! For the merchandise I feel some of it was just a bit overpriced like the hats.

Bruno Mars stops concert and walks off stage as security rush to 'medical emergency'

Bruno Mars’ concert on August 16 marked the opening of California’s brand new indoor arena, but it wasn’t a smooth debut show.

It’s been a busy few days for Bruno Mars. He has just released his first song since 2022, collaborating with the iconic music star Lady Gaga , which sent fans wild. The music star also was the first performer to play in the brand new indoor arena in Inglewood, California, with the arena being self-financed by Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer. Bruno Mars’ fans were obviously extremely excited to see him play his greatest hits live, but two things happened to change their mood.

Bruno Mars yells at security to get help for distressed fan

During the concert, while performing with his band, Bruno noticed a fan in distress. He quickly points to the floor and alerts the security very calmly.

However, he is then forced to tell his band to “slow down the music”, as the security guards hadn’t reacted to Bruno’s plea.

When the celebrity realized the guards were just standing around, not trying to help the fan, the 38-year-old became increasingly more frustrated.

He didn’t carry on with his performance and called them out.

・ FEUD CONTINUES! Taylor Swift ‘reignites’ Kanye West feud with thanK you aIMee release, but it disappears

Speaking to the guards into his microphone, he said: “You guys are security, right? Get your a**es in the middle of the floor. Jump over the gate and help them out!”

The singer refused to continue his show until he knew the fan had been helped. The video shows a group of security guards creating a pathway to the distressed fan, so that medics could help carry him out.

This temporary halt of the show wasn’t the only thing to go sideways for those attending, as fans were stuck outside the new venue when ticket scanners wouldn’t work.

After 40 minutes of approximately 18,000 fans being tightly packed together, the employees of the venue finally reappeared with the working scanners, delaying the concert by almost an hour.

Despite the delays and medical emergencies, Bruno, along with his band, put on a successful show for his fans. Hopefully, night two at the arena will go a bit more smoothly.

The result is a welcome tonic for Barnes, who is recovering following another trip to the operating theater , and a cause for celebration for the Australian music industry. 50 Years – The Best is the fourth consecutive No. 1 on the ARIA Chart by an Australian act, following new releases from Lime Cordiale, Tones & I, and Amy Shark.

The latest ARIA chart, published Friday, Aug, 23, marks the longest run for local acts at No. 1 since late 2020, when Midnight Oil, Kylie Minogue and AC/DC reigned for a combined six weeks, ARIA notes.

You’d have to go back almost a decade, to 2015, for the last time when four or more different Aussie acts consecutively ruled the chart. On that occasion, Parkway Drive, triple j Like A Version 11, Boy & Bear, Hillsong and 5 Seconds Of Summer did so, for a five-week stretch.

“It’s a big day for chart numbers,” comments ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd. “Huge congratulations to Cold Chisel for a phenomenal sixth No. 1 and 18th top 10 album. It’s an extremely exclusive club of artists who can rival the band’s storied legacy and impact on Australian music over 50 years. Congratulations again to the band, their team and everyone who has contributed to such a triumph.”

Chisel will dish out the hits on a 50th anniversary national tour later in the year, The Big Five-0 , which sold over 200,000 tickets sold in a matter of hours, reps say.

Coming in at No. 2 is Post Malone with his first collaboration-stacked country album , F-1 Trillion (Universal).

Completing the top three is Billie Eilish ’s former leader Hit Me Hard Hit Me Soft (Interscope/Universal), down 2-3.

Also new to the chart is Falling In Reverse with U.S. rock band’s fifth studio album Popular Monster (Epitaph Records/RKT). It arrives at No. 8, their career equal-best chart position ( Just Like You also peaked at No. 8 in 2015).

Meanwhile, Eilish’s hit “Birds Of A Feather” holds at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart , ahead of Shaboozey ’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (unchanged at No. 2 via Empire) and Post Malone featuring Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help” (Universal), up 5-3.

Finally, the top new release on the ARIA Singles Chart — indeed, the only new release in the top 50 — belongs to Lady Gaga  and  Bruno Mars , as their duet “Die With A Smile” debuts at No. 10.

Bruno mars’ debut album is back on several charts–right before his new single debuts.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 22: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Bruno Mars of Silk Sonic accepts the ... [+] Best Duo/Group of the Year award onstage at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California on March 22, 2022. Broadcasted live on FOX. In just a few days, Bruno Mars will likely score a new smash single all around the world. He teamed up with Lady Gaga for the surprise cut “Die with a Smile,” which has all the makings of a global hit. But before that title reaches the charts, the album that made Mars a superstar is back on multiple tallies.

Doo-Wops & Hooligans blasts back onto three charts in the U.K. this week. The set’s surge is possibly powered by the hints and teases that both Mars and Gaga shared online, which tipped fans off to their upcoming collaboration. The current rankings reflect activity before “Die with a Smile” arrived, but the two musicians were alluding to the track before they announced it officially, and that may have been enough to bring Mars back onto a number of lists.

Mars’ debut full-length is back inside the top 40 on one tally in the U.K. Doo-Wops & Hooligans breaks back onto the Official Vinyl Albums chart at No. 35, not very far from its No. 25 peak. So far, the set has only managed three turns somewhere on the vinyl-only roster.

Doo-Wops & Hooligans also finds its way back to two other related charts. The set returns at No. 64 on the Official Physical Albums list, a ranking it has previously ruled. The project lands 10 spots lower on the Official Albums Sales ranking, which includes all purchases of full-lengths and EPs.

The same set climbs on the main albums chart in the U.K., lifting from No. 78 to No. 74. Meanwhile, it almost manages almost the exact opposite performance on the Official Albums Streaming tally, dipping from No. 74 to No. 79 in one week.

Mars has been a global star for well over a decade, but he is not known as one of the more prolific names in pop music. Throughout his 15-year career, he’s only released three solo albums, beginning with Doo-Wops & Hooligans in 2010. He also teamed up with Anderson .Paak to create the superduo Silk Sonic, which produced one full-length album, An Evening with Silk Sonic , still standing as Mars’ most recent effort.

Inside Bruno Mars’ opening-night gig at Inglewood’s new Intuit Dome

It likely wasn’t the first time Bruno Mars played his song “Billionaire” in front of an actual billionaire.

But as the pop-soul hitmaker sang about wanting to “buy all of the things I never had” not long into his concert Thursday night at Inglewood’s new Intuit Dome, you couldn’t help but scope out Steve Ballmer , who’d used his vast wealth to do just that by building a long-awaited home for his beloved Clippers basketball team.

Sitting a few rows back from the stage in his signature light-blue button-down shirt, Ballmer clapped along with Mars’ peppy tune and happily received a round of back-slaps from the pals seated around him.

Thursday’s sold-out show, the first of two at the arena by Mars, served as the grand opening of Intuit Dome, a state-of-the-art arena that cost more than $2 billion and will begin hosting the Clippers in October (after years in which the team shared downtown’s Crypto.com Arena with the Lakers).

“Y’all, we are part of California history right now,” Mars told an audience that included Jennifer Lopez, Angela Bassett, Courtney B. Vance, Ashton Kutcher and Simu Liu, among other celebrities.

L.A. is packed with live music arenas. How will Inglewood’s new Intuit Dome stand out?

As openings go, it had some bumps: Hyped in advance for its high-tech touches, the venue’s entry-by-smartphone and opt-in facial-recognition systems weren’t working as planned Thursday, which led to a giant bottleneck at the main entrance as the building’s staff struggled to inspect fans’ digital tickets one by one. The show, which had been scheduled for 8 p.m., ended up starting at 9:40; on social media, concertgoers complained about long lines and a lack of clear signage and reliable Wi-Fi — hardly a tragedy, though embarrassing enough for a tech baron like Ballmer, who made much of his estimated $120-billion fortune as the head of Microsoft.

Yet if there’s one entertainer who can smooth out a wrinkle, it’s Bruno Mars.

Performing in the Los Angeles area for the first time since 2018, the 38-year-old singer put on a two-hour display of the effortless charisma and deep musical know-how that have earned him eight No. 1 singles, 15 Grammy Awards and gigs at not one but two Super Bowl halftime shows. He wore a silky red bowling shirt and a neatly trimmed mustache with heavy ’70s-playboy vibes; he led the crack eight-piece band he calls the Hooligans like a suave combination of James Brown, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. (Watching Mars, you’re never far from remembering that he got his start in show business as a pint-size Elvis impersonator in his native Hawaii.)

Mars’ music is a catalog of durable styles — rock, pop, R&B, funk, reggae — and he offered up bits of each in songs like the sweaty “Calling All My Lovelies,” which featured an extended comedic bit where he pretended to call a lover on a gold-plated phone; the effervescent “Treasure,” which evoked the glory days of Earth, Wind & Fire ; and the swaggering “That’s What I Like,” into which he threw a bit of salsa music just to show he could.

Near the end of the show, he brought out Lady Gaga — he called her “pop royalty” — to premiere their brand-new duet, “Die With a Smile,” with Mars wearing a cowboy hat as he strummed a guitar and Gaga in a giant beehive wig as she played an electric piano.

For Mars, who has spent much of the past couple years performing in Las Vegas both on his own and with his and Anderson .Paak’s throwback-soul duo Silk Sonic, Thursday’s show was proof that, as quickly as pop music evolves these days, Mars’ old-school skills remain valuable. When a fan on the floor needed medical help at one point, Mars had his band vamp for a few minutes as security guards found the guy and carried him out.

“This is what professionals do,” he said with a grin as he steered the players back into the show.

And what of Intuit? L.A. already has plenty of other venues this size, including Crypto, the Hollywood Bowl and the Kia Forum, which Ballmer also owns and which sits just a mile up Prairie Avenue from the new building. Yet the room sounded great Thursday: crisp and detailed with less of the boominess you usually encounter in an arena.

Mars nodded to Intuit’s location as he introduced one of his earliest hits, “Nothin’ on You,” which he said contained “the four chords that changed my life.”

“I used to live not too far from here, driving around in my Honda Accord,” he said, a little misty from the memory. “I’ll never forget the day — I was rolling around here and I heard this song on the radio.”
