Réserve Africaine de Sigean

Languedoc-Roussillon

Opened in 1974, this 300-hectare wildlife reserve aims to recreate the atmosphere of the African savannah – a climate not all that different from the Languedoc’s dry and dusty plains. Lions, white rhinos, warthogs, giraffes and zebras are just a few of the 160 species on show, with some 3800 animals here in all. Some areas are drive-through, while others you explore on foot. The reserve is off the A9, 17km south of Narbonne.

South of France with kids: Sigean African Safari park

South of France with kids: Sigean African Safari park, France

It is a good 18 months since we took our boys here, but they still talk about it. The safari park is very well laid out and has a great selection animals all within spacious enclosure. When we went the Pink Flamingos were flying in. It is well worth the visit, although I can imagine it gets busy in the Summer.

Prices: from memory it was quite expensive to get into the Sigean African Safari park, but you can take your own food in to even out the cost. I think it was around €60 for the car.

Getting there: Sigean African Safari park is located south of Narbonne off the A9 at junction 39. You can't miss it, it is signposted from Paris!! For further details please visit: Sigean African Safari park, France .

A good (cheaper) alternative to Sigean African Safari is Montpellier Zoo. The zoo is free to get into and you can easily spend a day wandering around this large park. See Montpellier zoo for more details.

A little piece of Africa at the heart of the Narbonnaise regional nature park

To spend the day close to wildlife and experience an unforgettable adventure, head for the reserve, between Narbonne and Perpignan in Aude , 35 km from your holiday residence in Occitanie . The Sigean African Reserve is on the Mediterranean coast at the edge of the Narbonnais lakes. It is home to 3,800 animals in semi-captivity in an area over 300 hectares. The reserve aims to help protect the future generations of endangered species. Come and see it!

A day's safari by car and on foot

40 minutes away from Olydea le Neptune Saint-Pierre-la-Mer , our holiday residence, a visit to the Sigean animal park combines a trip by car and on foot. Groups can also opt for a visit to the park in a minibus together with a park guide. A visit take 3 to 4 hours, but you can easily spend the whole day there.

During the 7.5 km (1 hour) visit, you first see the African bush parks, where giraffes, zebra, buffaloes, antelope and ostriches live, and then the Tibetan bear park and the lion park. Next up is the African Savannah, the kingdom of the white rhinoceros, warthogs and the Somali wild ass.

You then swap your car for your walking shoes. A long trail takes you on a journey into natural, wide-open spaces: heathland, pine forest, lakes, marshes, plains and hills. Almost all the animals of Africa can be found here, from African antelopes to chimpanzees, via cheetahs and African wild dogs. Here you can also meet all kinds of feathered friends, including flamingoes, white storks and pink-backed pelicans.

A quick detour to the Tropical House is an opportunity to get up close to American alligators, to watch the turtles, iguana and cameleons and to shudder with fright at the boas and pythons. In short, a total and close-up wildlife immersion!

Exploring Sigean safari park in southwest France

Samantha david learns about the important conservation work carried out at a safari park in southwest france..

sigean safari park

There were no humans watching the baby animals at Sigean Safari Park this spring, but the animals didn’t notice anything different from normal. Their lives continued as serenely as ever, the lack of visitors notwithstanding. Only the birds behaved differently, said Marianne de Jesús, the General Curator Assistant. “We noticed that they occupied their space more fully, instead of staying away from the viewing area. The behaviour of the other animals didn’t change at all.”

This is evidence of a successful strategy of hiding visitors from the animals so they remain unstressed and behave as naturally as possible. It also contrasts to the behaviour of pandas in Hong Kong – who took advantage of lockdown privacy to mate spontaneously for the first time in a decade. “The size of enclosures affects the animals’ behaviour. Our enclosures are very big so animals can hide if they want, and visitors are well disguised from the animals, so they are less disturbed by them. So for many of our animals, the ‘confinement’ didn’t change anything much.”

New French project aims to protect birds put at risk by skiers in Alps

African animals in France

The Réserve Africaine de Sigean, between Narbonne and Perpignan, opened in 1974. It now covers around 750 acres, the spacious enclosures housing 160 different species of birds, mammals and reptiles, most of them from Africa. It undertakes scientific research, teaching and conservation as well as controlled breeding programmes. Since opening, there have been more than 10,000 births at the park, including rare species of antelopes, gazelles, giraffes, wallabies and white rhinoceros.

The park is also home to bears, monkeys, chimpanzees, zebras, alligators, and big cats such as lions and leopards. It used to have a small herd of elephants, but no longer has them. “The last of our elephants were moved to Germany some years back, and although there is a plan to get elephants back to the park, it’s very long term,” said Marianne de Jesús. “In the past, elephants’ requirements weren’t as well understood as they are now, so we don’t currently feel we can offer them the best home. They require very specialised care.”

Alsace great hamster is in ‘critical danger of extinction’

Elephants, lions, giraffes

Elephants need to live in matriarchal groups; they need vast amounts of space, and can be seen as destructive, enjoying activities like uprooting trees and trampling ponds into mud. “The last elephant born here is now living in Germany, and as part of the European Breeding Programme she is now pregnant, which is great news. We like to keep up with news of animals who were born here.” Many larger animals live in safari-type enclosures, and can be seen by visitors driving through in cars or taking one of the park’s minibus tours around the enclosures. The route through the various spaces is 7.5kms long.

“The lions were fine during the lockdown: we continued driving through their enclosure – so that they remained used to seeing cars. We also let the giraffes out at their usual hours, and the rhinos, bears, and zebras are always outside so nothing changed for them.” Life at the park is as natural as it can be, but there are limits.

Europe’s first elephant sanctuary is ready to host animals

Carnivores and herbivores

Carnivores and herbivores do not live in the same enclosures, meaning the carnivores do not hunt but are fed by the keepers, and the herbivores do not have to flee their predators. For birds such as flamingos, pelicans, and herons however, life is very natural. They live on open wetlands, and stay because they have no reason to leave.

As well as drive-through enclosures, there are vast areas of the park to explore on foot, so visitors to Sigean are advised to wear comfortable shoes and bring a shady hat. Binoculars are also useful for watching animals at a distance, which also adds to the romantic impression of really being on safari in Africa. The circuit can be accomplished in two hours 30 minutes, but only if you don’t dawdle on the way, which is after all the whole point of going on safari. Most families spend an entire day at the park.

Keepers enjoy sharing their knowledge with visitors. “We all really enjoy that side of our job, educating people about African animals. We feel we are ambassadors for the animals, and try to inform the public about wild animals, and about the importance of conserving nature.” Because they have some of Europe’s largest herds of wild animals, zoologists at Sigean are particularly strong on studying animal behaviour in the wild. Other subjects studied include dental problems in carnivores and contraception in chimpanzees.

The important of conservation

Conservation of rare and under-threat species is also important, not just so that zoos have animals but also so that animals bred in captivity can be reintroduced to the wild. This is not easy, however, especially in Africa where poaching is widespread, civil wars decimate the countryside, and millions of acres of savannah, wetland, and forests are being cleared for agriculture. It is all too probable that many species will disappear from the wild, and will in the future only exist in captivity.

Sumatran tigers, for example, are threatened because only 7% of their natural habitat remains, and only around 100 Sumatran tigers still live in the wild. They are threatened by habitat destruction and poaching, for trade of animal parts as traditional oriental medicine or trophies. In 2011, 2013 and 2015, as a result of the breeding programme, a Sumatran tiger called Kirana gave birth to three cubs at Chester Zoo in the UK.

Gorilla breeding has been managed by the programme since 1987, and almost all gorillas introduced into new groups produced offspring within two years, meaning that the Gorilla population is sustainable and genetically healthy. This is why zoos do not simply breed the animals they have but coordinate breeding programmes via the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), which organises animal exchanges and relocations, to ensure captive populations remain genetically healthy, and behaviourally wild.

The park at Sigean is taking part in 42 captive breeding programmes, and in 2019 it also donated €70,000 to animal conservation projects in Africa including J.A.C.K. which takes-in and cares for orphan chimps. Sigean, like all other establishments in the scheme, was forced to pause its participation in the European Breeding Programme during confinement. “It will be good to restart the programme. We have animals here waiting to be relocated, and are also waiting for animals to arrive, but this can only happen when it is safe for them and for their human keepers to travel.”

Educational schemes

The park also runs educational schemes, supplying preparation materials to schools planning a visit to the park, for example, as well as guides who accompany educational groups throughout their visit to the park, helping people spot the animals, understand their behaviour and their interaction with their habitat. They also run teaching sessions for small groups of children on subjects including biological classification, reproduction, and feeding. The safari park is supported by an association called 'Les Amis de la Réserve Africaine de Sigean' which raises money, awareness, develops and contributes teaching materials, and also publishes newsletters, posters and books.

The park is open all year round, employing 82 people (plus an extra 55 seasonal workers in the summer) and distributing three tonnes of animal food a day – 198kg of fruit and vegetables, 134kg of dry bread, 75kg of meat, 101kg of fish, 511kg of grain and pellets, plus 1,518kg of forage. It has its own veterinary clinic and laboratory on site.

This year there have been baby antelopes, springboks, buffalos, leopards and painted dogs. “We’re also enjoying the antics of our three-year old chimp who is full of tricks.” The other great time to visit is in September, as the weather begins to cool. At the time of going to print, it wasn’t certain what hours the safari park would open in 2020 summer, nor were there details of hygiene precautions.

Keepers have been wearing masks when it has been impossible to practice social distancing (when treating animals in the infirmary for example), and the public may be required to wear them when visiting. It was also not known what catering arrangements will be in place. So check the website (reserveafricainesigean.fr) before planning a visit.

Wer online bucht, spart.

Was futtern die Tiere?

Tag für Tag verteilen die Tierpfleger drei Tonnen Futter – darunter 198 Kilogramm Obst und Gemüse, 134 Kilogramm Brot und Gebäck, 75 Kilogramm Fleisch, 101 Kilogramm Fisch, 511 Kilogramm Körner und Granulat und 1.518 Kilogramm sonstiges Futter!

Chateau de Nevian

Sigean African Reserve & Other Days Out

Sigean African Reserve

A favourite day out for families is the Sigean African Reserve. Lovers of history and architecture will enjoy the Abbaye de Fontfroide. Cyclists and walkers are within a short drive of the famous Canal du Midi.

Sigean African Reserve giraffes

Sigean African Reserve

Just a 20 minute drive from the Chateau de Nevian, you can find the African Wildlife Reserve at Sigean . It is a 300 hectare safari park and home to over 3800 animals that are free to roam in its open spaces. This is an estimate of the numbers as the animals breed so they do not have an exact inventory. They are predominantly African species in the park, ones able to thrive in the climate in the Languedoc – lots of sunshine and mild winters.

Pink flamingoes at Sigean African Reserve

You will see cheetahs, lions, red buffalos, impalas, zebras, springboks, ostriches, giraffes, white rhinoceri and Asiatic bears, along with hundreds of reptiles and birds. You can easily spend a day at the park – as a minimum you need an hour to tour in your vehicle and then a further two to three hours on foot. However, if you have not seen all the animals in the early tour in your car, they advise you to revisit this area of the park later in the day when it will be less busy. Booking in advance is advised. At the time of writing the tickets cost 33 euros for an adult and 24 euros for a child, with family tickets available.

Abbaye de Fontfroide

The Cistercian monastery L’Abbaye de Fontfroide is 15km from Nevian and takes about 15 minutes to drive to. The magnificent architecture, courtyards, cloisters and stunning gardens are worth a visit in their own right but it also holds regular events and concerts throughout the year. If you time your visit well you may be serenaded by an orchestra, experience life in Mediaeval times at an immersive history event or enjoy the floral splendour of The Fete des Plantes.

Abbaye de Fontfroide

It was originally founded in 1093 as a Benedictine Monastery but then affiliated to the Cistercian Movement in 1193 before being dissolved during the French Revolution. It passed into the private ownership of two artists, the Fayets, in 1908 whereupon it became a centre for artistic endeavour. Today it is a tourist attraction, cultural venue and produces its own wine. It also has a restaurant on site.

Canal du Midi

The Canal du Midi is a 240 km long waterway that starts at Toulouse and flows through  Carcassonne, Castlenaudry, Beziers and, finally, Sete where it reaches the Mediterranean Sea. Together with the Canal de Garonne it connects the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. This phenomenal feat of engineering was designed by Pierre-Paul Riquet and completed in 1681 and now has UNESCO World Heritage status.

Canal du Midi

The Canal du Midi runs through some exceptionally beautiful scenery and is a favourite with walkers and cyclists. You can also rent a boat to travel along the waterway or take a daytrip. There are a number of Canal du Midi villages nearby where you can get onto the towpath that runs alongside the Canal du Midi. The nearest is Ventenac en Minervois , 10km away from the Chateau. Ventenac has a very good bistro – La Grillade du Chateau – directly on the banks of the Canal. Its Menu du Jour is available at lunchtimes midweek and is great value. The Chateau de Ventenac Minervois right next door offers wine tastings. We recommend the sparkling rose.

Canal du Midi

From Ventenac you can follow the Canal east to Le Somail which is about 5 km away, about an hour’s walk. Le Somail is a pretty little village with a number of bars and restaurants. It also has an ancient library which is now an antique bookshop with a collection of over 50,000 old or out of print books for sale. Going west the path will pass a number of Canal du Midi villages, Paraza, Argens Minervois and Homps, each with something different to offer.

  • 3/5 Daria I. 2 years ago on Google It is ok for the less price. We had a bad luck with a weather but still we managed to pass there a half of the day. We liked the first driving part. It was interesting, animals were walking really close and that what you could name “safari”. But, unfortunately, this part was short and the rest of the park was more close to a typical zoo. To compare zoo of Valencia and Barcelona, I liked more: more animals and better territory. A lot of zones were empty…. The restaurant of the park is not expensive but not tasty at all, in IKEA you could eat much better. The souvenir shop is incredibly expensive, 25 euros for the small animal toy looks ridicules. To conclude, it is a good option if the price was double less, it doesn’t cost its price at all. And there are a lot of picnic zones on the open air where better to take something really tasty and enjoy your lunch. 4 people found this review helpful 👍
  • 4/5 Sandra Ventura L. 1 year ago on Google • 45 reviews We went in April 2023, in the morning. You should book in advance and you’re given an entry time (tolerance of 15-30 minutes if I remember correctly) - the website has all the info: There are 2 parts. One visited inside the car (wild animals): The wild animals were moving freely, but very visible since the food is next to the road where the cars circulate. The animals looked “happy”, although bears and lions were sleeping (maybe their natural way). The second part: The park which can be visited on foot is very big, things distance apart, so be ready to use your shoes 😊 The restaurant has several options, including healthy ones. There are several coffee and ice cream shops around the park, with snacks, etc. Regarding activities here (feeding animals, etc), there were not too many, nor information was very clear/ helpful. This is something to improve in my opinion. I understand it’s intended to simulate a natural habitat , so I like that this is respected 3 people found this review helpful 👍
  • 3/5 Tamara Y. 1 year ago on Google The visit started out with a very long 40 minutes car queue to enter. We had already purchased our tickets, as requested in their website, but we noticed most cars hadn't. Hence the wait. The first part of the tour is through the outer spaces were animals are free in the environment and visitors must be in their cars, with windows closed. To our astonishment, people lowered the car windows, offered food to animals, screamed at the animals and some even got out of their cars to photograph them. NO ONE FROM THE PARK DID ANYTHING. We were amazed. Besides, the bears area had 3 bears only; we could only see 2 rhinoceros and lions were lying down in a space limited by an electric wire (over 10 meters away from the road) Afterwards, we did the walking tour. We expected many more species and animals, larger spaces for them, but no. Animals are caged in spaces that evidently don't allow them to run or exercise as they would in the wild (so it feels more like a zoo than to a reservation). The Vivarium doesn't have many species either. It is a nice experience for kids, but we expected a lot more for the entrance fee. Restaurants and snack bars are available in the walking area of the park, but food IS EXPENSIVE! And quality is not great. But I must say that fries were awesome! 3 people found this review helpful 👍
1 person found this review helpful 👍
  • 4/5 Sylvain Q. 5 years ago on Google Great park for the day, especially with kids. You'll see plenty of animals from quite close and they have a lot of space. It's much better than a traditional zoo where you usually feel they're badly lacking vital space. There are 2 parks in one... One by foot and one by car. I advise to get in very early as traffic builds up quickly inside and outside the park. It took us 45 minutes for the last km until we paid and finally got in, at that time the riding part was completely full so we started with the walking part which was fine. Only 4 stars because the services are not sized to the traffic, there's a long queue at the toilets which are incredibly dirty, way worse than the motorway!! Given the price paid it's unacceptable. Other than that, a good day out for families. 3 people found this review helpful 👍
  • 3/5 Nico M. 3 years ago on Google (Translated by Google) I like animals a lot so go see the animals at the zoo it's a hobby and especially the part in the car on the other hand I remember the coldness and the unpleasant remark of a cook, I ask for a well-cooked minced steak which by the way the canteen the prices are exorbitant, and the cook allows herself to say "oh well, that's going to be the sole of the steak" (she implies that the steak is of poor quality then? " A derogatory remark, she would have had better care for herself, but hey, does that reflect the imagining of deep France to eat raw meat and make comments all the time, the king customer? No because guess what my steak was rare .... Non car devinez quoi mon steak était saignant.... 3 people found this review helpful 👍
  • 4/5 Luca B. 2 years ago on Google Very nice place, cool idea! You can have a "Safari" with your own car / camping car, driving around (queueing in August) among exotic animals wandering free! After that, there is a walking only area with many others animals and attractions for children. The whole route takes 4-5 hours -ish. Water available inside the park. The only con is related to the safari part, if you go in August (or during high season) you will probably queue a lot waiting for people to take pictures of the animals. 3 people found this review helpful 👍
  • 5/5 Venelin D. 11 months ago on Google • 40 reviews The place is amazing. You can see alot of animals roam free. I highly recommend checking the feeding times of the animals, because that is the best time to visit them. You often see animals directly on the road. Be aware that the food isn't anything special at the place. 2 people found this review helpful 👍

  • 5/5 Kevin B. 4 years ago on Google WOW! This is a great reserve to visit, a nice drive around the grasslands (almost like Africa) and then a pleasant walk through the huge aviary and other animals/reptiles etc. Food is available from the kiosks (a little expensive but it is very good and convenient. Well worth a visit. 2 people found this review helpful 👍
  • 5/5 Florestan B. 3 years ago on Google We spent quite a great time in this zoo! The 1st hour or so is to be spent in the car while enjoying the sight of the animals from the savannah and even more impressive with the bears! Definitely worth it! Once by foot, the park is very pleasant to visit and it took us about 2 hours to see all the animals and we could see the feeding of the flamingos. 2 people found this review helpful 👍

It doesn\u2019t feel like a zoo. It\u2019s more a window to a wildlife sanctuary. Even in winter you can find a restaurant to have some food. • 5/5 Jennifer Schneider D. 1 year ago on Google All in all this was a beautiful experience. We arrived reasonably early within the week (Monday, 9.30am) and it actually worked out really well. It wasn't too full, you can slowly drive through the Safari and it is an absolutely unique experience! Beware that the Lion part of the Safari opens at 10am, so we did have to wait for a moment before we could enter. The Staff is super friendly and speaks English as well. The Walkable Part of the Park is also really nice, with a lot of shade on the walkways and places to stop to eat/use the toilet etc. The enclosures seemed really nice to me, the animals weren't pacing and seemed really relaxed in general. There are some peacocks roaming around as well, which is pretty cool too. All in all this was a great experience, and considering you can spend your entire day here and see all these beautiful animals this was definitely money well spent. I would always recommend! 1 person found this review helpful 👍
  • 5/5 ICHIEN L. 1 year ago on Google This is our second time to this place. We are very lucky to see lots of animals this time! It’s really fun even in winter. We drove around the safari several times to see lions and bears. It’s worth every penny!! 1 person found this review helpful 👍
  • 5/5 Lenka J. 1 year ago on Google It was very nice day trip for 2 families here. First we went through some Safari drives and got to see animals from 1, 3 until 20 meters distance, then we went to the walking part, which was interesting and at the same time little bit challenging for our group of 3-8 years old kids. Specielly birds getting a fish and observing crocodiles, fish, varans and turtles was very exciting. There was also possibility of buying icecreams and some food, family of 4 pays aproximetely 40 euros for the meal and 12 euros for icecreams. Beatifull one day trip. Even our 8 years oød boy who has not been interesses in animals before got a Nice ant memorable trip! The animals seems to have a lots of space to their disposal. 1 person found this review helpful 👍
  • 5/5 Lynda B. 3 years ago on Google We fell in love with this reserve! We loved the idea that you get to see real predators through the window of your car at a pace you feel comfortable with. It was truly unique. Even though it was really hot (more than 30 degrees C), we saw all animals, even the lazy lions, and bears. There were also plenty of bovine animals walking freely and not being intimidated by the cars passing by. This part of the park took about an hour and a half. The rest of the park, which is accessible on foot, is a good 4-hour walk. The sanitary parts were well-maintained and eating inside the park is not expensive, as one might expect. Also, there are proper indications throughout the entire park so you can never get lost. There are mist shower systems situated in several places to keep you cool. Last but not least, there are many taps with drinkable water (if you bring your dog, there are taps suited at about 30 cm above the ground, which are perfect for small dogs). Definitely recommend to all families and animal lovers! 1 person found this review helpful 👍

  • 5/5 Kathrin K. 11 months ago on Google • 71 reviews Toller Park. Schnell braucht man dazu ca. 2 Stunden.

  • 5/5 Jesse W. 11 months ago on Google • 26 reviews Sehr schönes Reservat.

  • 5/5 Zachary H. 10 months ago on Google Best zoo/animal reserve experience that we’ve ever been to. The animals look healthy and happy with plenty of room to roam. This is what a zoo should be like. The staff is friendly and the experience itself was amazing. Definitely recommend even if it’s out of your way. Well worth the trip and would love to go back.
  • 4/5 Stephan H. 1 year ago on Google The driving area is nice but can get frustrating very soon as some people take their sweet time to take selfies with animals causing those behind to miss the animals, now with climate change they should really change this to small electric safari trains instead. The park itself is big but as the animals are so wide spread it can sometimes take a while to spot them. Overall it was nice but pricey...
  • 5/5 Karin W. 11 months ago on Google • 17 reviews Empfehlenswert! Freundliches Personal. Hunde an der Leine erlaubt.
  • 4/5 Gonzalo A. 11 months ago on Google Really loved the place. Even in summer it was no too much crowded and you can see that they take good care of the animals. Of course it is a zoo that makes money of it, but in my opinion they do it well, with plenty of space for the animals to move and run. The obly couple of things I would change: 1. feeding of the animals in english or spanish too, for those who do not speak french, I did not understood anything at all. 2. The safari it would make more sense to do it in a “train” provided by the reserve. Does not make much sense to move in everybody’s car around the safari part, spending gas and releasing fumes into the animals areas. A part from that, I would reccomend it to everyone.
  • 5/5 Michael S. 2 years ago on Google Fantastic well maintained park with many animals. Ability to both drive and walk around with beautiful picnic facilities provided free. Well worth every cent
  • 5/5 Aleksandr Z. 2 years ago on Google Great experience, though I'd recommend going there not on a weekend since it can get a bit crowded next to zebras :)
  • 5/5 Katherine D. 1 year ago on Google Excellent safari and zoo. The safari takes you through various enclosures, culminating in the lions. If you wish to drive round again at any point during the day you can. The rest of the zoo is on foot. It includes a huge lake with flamingoes, storks, pelicans etc. The zoo has plenty of parking, picnic areas and cafes. There are also a number of good toilets.
  • 5/5 Alex B. (. 1 year ago on Google Giant Parc with tons of animals and safari (use your own car). Lifehack: you can drive multiple times, it's worth to do it 2-3 times, animals are migrating from shadow to sun etc). Amazing experience for kids!!! Park itself looks like a small Africa.
  • 4/5 matthias t. 1 year ago on Google I recently visited a safari parc with my family, and it was an incredible experience filled with unforgettable moments. From the moment we entered, we were immersed in the wild and untamed beauty of nature. The parc's open-air concept allowed us to see animals in a natural habitat, roaming freely in vast spaces. We marveled at the herds of graceful antelopes grazing peacefully, while majestic giraffes gracefully stretched their long necks to reach the treetops. As we drove through the safari trails, we encountered a diverse range of animals, each more fascinating than the last. We spotted mighty lions lazing under the shade, their regal presence leaving us in awe. Meanwhile, mischievous monkeys entertained us with their playful antics. The parc also had an excellent educational aspect. At designated points, knowledgeable guides shared insightful information about the animals, their behaviors, and the conservation efforts in place to protect them. The safety measures in the parc were impressive, ensuring both the visitors and the animals' well-being. The well-marked trails and informative guides ensured that we could enjoy the experience responsibly. Overall, the safari parc provided an extraordinary adventure for my family and me. It allowed us to connect with nature, learn about wildlife conservation, and create lasting memories together. If you're looking for an unforgettable wildlife experience, I recommend visiting this safari parc. It's a fantastic outing for all ages, and it will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our natural world.
  • 4/5 adrian m. 1 year ago on Google I worked in Perpignan for a while so i visited what i could in the area :). Been here with my fiancee, and didn't regret it at all. Was a pleasant day,not too warm, not too cold. First part you travel in your car, we saw some black bears, some herbivorous animals like zebras, ostrichs and others. Than some Liones, actually one lion and some lionesses . Than we had a 4 hours walk , no rush and it was ok. Like a bigger zoo, animals with more space to run and play. No elephants or tigers, but for a walk in nature is a good place to go. The food is not the best and somehow expensive for what they offer. It is usually crowded, even if i went there outside the busy hours they say :). After all it's a nice experience, worth going. This only if you haven't been in an actually Africa safari, than this will look like childish :).
  • 5/5 dave w. 1 year ago on Google This place is really good ots like a big Knowsley safari park but better. You can drive through lions , bears , rhinos , wildebeest , donleys and warthogs. You can part up and explore on foot its massive and there are loads of animals spread around. Its a great day out for all but beware any elderly or disabled there is a lot of hills and walking to be done. Also take a water bottle and brollies for shade. There are plenty of places to shade but whilst walking to different areas. We had children 8 and 12 adults 45 years and grand parents 75 ish and all enjoyed it
  • 4/5 Iryna K. 1 year ago on Google Visited again in July 2023. A huge territory for a car ride and a walking tour. WC are free, there are restaurants where you can get a snack or have a full lunch. During my first visit the part of the reserve was closed because of the bird flu. This time I could discover their collection of birds, it's impressive.

  • 5/5 Gloria G. 3 years ago on Google (Translated by Google) A fantastic leisure option for the family: you can see many animals up close, both land and aquatic. You can do part of the tour in the car and another on foot where you can visit animals in more restricted places and even crocodiles and see how they feed them. It is a whole day plan. In the car section, in the area of the lions, it is better to go first thing or last in the morning because at noon, with the heat, the animals are more inactive so they move less and it is more difficult to see them. I recommend bringing water, a hat and sunscreen, and a camera with full batteries because you are going to film a lot! We went by car from Barcelona on a 3-4 day plan in which we made three stops in three different cities: Carcassonne, where we slept and its medieval castle; the next day the Cité de l'Espace in Toulouse, where we spent the night; and on our way back, we stopped at the Sigéan African Reserve, returning to Barcelona in the afternoon. Alternatively you can spend the night there or go back to Spain and spend a day somewhere on the Costa Brava. It is a good short break plan.

  • 5/5 Matthew C. 4 years ago on Google An amazing experience! You can drive through a big area where the African animals graze, it's lovely to see them mingle and although you don't get much time as you can't stop the car, it is really amazing! The roads aren't blocked off so the animals can cross the road and the zebras came really close! There are also other areas around a lake with bears and lions which are also very interesting. After the road part you can eat at the gift shop or picnic tables, then move on to smaller exhibits by foot. There are flamingos, giraffes and more areas that are really interesting! There's also a small petting zoo with goats for the kids. Overall, a fun day out!

Volvería a ir.
