Kolkata Heritage River Cruise starts at Millennium Park Ghat. The launch floats in the Ganges for  1.30 hours  and returns to Millennium Park.  Tickets are Rs 169  per person. It’s a two-story boat; there is no online system. There are seating arrangements on both floors; you can sit anywhere. The ticket counter at the Millennium Park entrance opens at 5:30 pm.

River Cruise Cafe is available for light snacks and music only. Various cutlets, patties, singara, cakes, coffee, and tea are available (paid).

Ganganagar yatra from Kolkata by boat service starts from Millennium Park to Kachuberia by Vivada Crouse and is an initiative of the West Bengal government. It’s a same-day journey, but if you wish, you can stay one day in Ganganagar Dham and return the next day.

Ahead of Durga puja this year, Kolkata has got an exciting new addition to its list of star attractions a heritage cruise ride on the Hooghly river.

The 90-minute guided trip was flagged off on Thursday evening. At a ticket price of just Rs 39, tourists and locals can now sail past the various landmarks of Kolkata dotting the river bank.

“The idea is to make leisure riverine transport accessible and affordable for all,” Rajanvir Singh Kapur, MD of West Bengal Transport Corporation, told India Today Television.

Located on Strand Road, next to the Hooghly River is a beautiful park named Millenium Park. The park is 2.5km long and lies on Hooghly’s eastern shore opposite to the Railway Club and near the Fairlie Ghat. You can easily view the Howrah Bridge from the park. The park is located in the BBD Bagh area of Kolkata, near the General Post Office and the Calcutta High Court.

The park is named Millenium Park since it is a gift from the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA/CMDA) to the citizens of Kolkata on completing a millennium, the park was inaugurated on 26 December 1999. The park is a part of the first phase of Kolkata’s Riverside Beautification Project.

Activities at Millenium Park

The park has been beautified with a variety of trees and lots of pretty lights. The view of the Hooghly waterfront and the Howrah Bridge from the park makes Millenium Park worth a visit. A variety of activities at Millenium Park include:

Kid’s Zone : The park is full of lush green gardens with a play area for kids that have fun rides for tiny tots. The place includes several rides for kids, including a Toy Train, a Pirate Ship, Bumpy Cars, Break Dance among many others.

Boat Ride : While the kids enjoy themselves on the rides, the adults can take a leisure boat ride on Hooghly.

Foodie’s Paradise : There’s also a food court at the park with around seven to eight stalls serving food, which you can eat on beautified wooden branches for tables and chairs.

The park is open from 10.00 a.m to 6.30 p.m on all days of the week and the rides for children begin from 2.00 p.m.

Entry fee is Rs. 10 per head. Price of rides are quite reasonable, varying between Rs. 50 to Rs. 100.

Price for boat rides vary between Rs. 300 to Rs. 400, depending on the quality of the boat. The better it is, the costlier it is.

How to Reach Millenium Park

To get to Millenium Park you have to get to BBD Bagh . That is the most prominent landmark in the area. There are several ways to go to the park:

Buses : City buses on the route to BBD Bagh will drop you five minutes away from Millenium Park or even next to it.

Train : The BBD Bagh local train station is very close to the park and has trains running through them every half an hour.

Metro : If you want to take a metro, Chandni Chowk is the closest Metro Station.

Ferry : If you’re coming to Millenium Park from Howrah then it would be wiser to take a ferry to Fairlie Place Ghat, which is the closest ferry point from Millenium Park.

Alternatively, you can book a cab from top car rental companies in Kolkata to visit the most popular tourist attractions of Kolkata in a comfortable manner.

The park is now one of the most popular picnic spots in the city. The park is very centrally located and easily accessible from any part of the city. The admission is nearly negligible, rides aren’t that costly here either. The food is great too but the view of the Howrah Bridge while sitting on the benches of the park is the real deal.

Millennium Park to Ganganagar Cruise Service Booking : 

The West Bengal Government & Private organization join venture has decided to start ferry or cruise service for Gangasagar From Kolkata Millennium Park. According to State Transport Department sources, the decision will help to pilgrims for reaching Ganga Sagar in a hassle-free way through water transport. It will be held in the month of March 2020.

Kolkata to Gangasagar cruise time table:

The cruise will leave daily at 07:30 am in the morning from the jetty at Millenium Park. It will reach Ganga Sagar’s Kachuberia ferry Ghat by 11:00 am in the morning. On the other hand, the cruise will leave for Kolkata from Kachuberiya every day at 3:30 pm.

Reaching Azimganj railway station transfer to Azimganj Jetty by tuktuk. Check in Azimganj jetty. After Lunch, Visit Baranagar - 1. Later after lunch, Visit to Mayapur , which is the Headquaters of ISKCON temples, preaching the power of prayer to attain salvation. At Matiari, visit Kansha workshops, ( Bell metal wares) was a poor man substitute to the rich silverware used in Bengali homes for prayers, table wares and also for cooking. The traditional Kansari artisans make from scrap metals handcrafted wares and art facts.

The vessel will drop anchor at Kalna - Maharajas of Bardhaman built several magnificent temples with intricate terracotta ornamentation, the main one being 108 Shiv Mandir built in 1809 in traditional AAT chala architecture and the Raj bari which house most of the temples. After a wonderful lunch at the vessel , visit to Shantipur - the weavers colony of fine Bengal cotton, the village rich in handloom weaving, is the second largest occupation in the state of West Bengal. The weavers here blend the traditional art with the modern life style needs, offering rich variety of textiles, sarees, stoles, fabrics etc. Guests may buy few souvenir for themselves. In the evening the guests will enjoy a folk form of music “Boul Sangeet”.

The ship sailes for Sunderbans, the kingdom of the famous Royal Bengal Tigers as well as the World’s largest Mangrove Forest belt. The cruiser sails along the beautiful Ganges towards the south, passing through the various heritage sites to reach the gate way of Sunderbans called Namkhana, where guest enjoy the unique scene of hundreds of fishing boats busy with their daily chores in the small fishing hamlet of Namkhana. In the evening the guests will be briefed about the mangrove in a wildlife film show.

Early this morning the guests will visit the crocodile project on Bhagabatpur island which is a hatchery and sanctuary to the biggest estuarine crocodiles in the world. Afternoon after lunch guests can disemark to walk at Bali Village, a typical Sunderban village for an interaction with the villagers to experience their life style. Guests will experience farming, paddy husking, honey packing, fishing and various occupations of the region.

Cruise - After breakfast enjoy extensive creek ride through the dense Mangrove forest. Later have a Canopy walk and explore Dobanke, the Deer Rehabilitation Center. Afternoon visit the Wildlife Watch Tower at Sudhayanakhali; famous for its watchtower and wildlife sighting and creek rides throw the thick forest, having extensive range of mangrove species where the guests can feast their eyes on the wide range of migratory and local birds of this region. excellent birding opportunity. Later visit to Sudhanya khali watch tower. As an evening entertainment, we give to a traditional dance form of Bengal, Gaorio dance.

The vessel shall cruise back to Kolkata jetty. The check out is after breakfast, at about 10.00 am.
