Maps and Itineraries

Our guest's experiences (7).

Spa services were excellent. Tour guide was informative and interesting. We took part in so many authentic experiences such as kayaking, biking around a village, swimming,... Ao Ech area was definitely the highlight of the trip, such an impressive place! The whole cruise team was helpful and hospitable, keep it up! Great impression with Vietnamese cuisines. Thank you all!

Lan Ha Bay was absolutely one of the best destinations! Ylang Cruise was wonderful too! Pros: really delicious food, amazing staff, comfortable cabin, beautiful off-deck stops, professional massage,... Cons: drinks were quite expensive, 3-day tour had some onboard activities repeated.

My family spent 3 days on the Ylang Cruise! The boat itself was pretty and the rooms were large and comfy. There was even an open-air pool for swimming and relaxing on board. The food was so delicious. One suggestion was that the cruise should plan more activities for kids, as my son felt bored quickly in the evening. Great cruise overall!

Fabulous! The crew team was amazing! The schedule was well planned and efficient. We were very pleased with our cabin: large, comfortable bed, luxury bathtub, relaxing balcony. Food on board was one of the best we had tried in Vietnam and the views were perfect! Massage services were relaxing but the prices were quite high. Lan Ha Bay was lovely and less crowded, making it more tranquil than Halong Bay!

Memorable experiences! The seascapes were gorgeous and striking! I loved kayaking on the day 2; off-deck activities on the 1st day were nice but nothing special. All the staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. I was especially surprised at the tea making demonstration, very skillful and relaxing to watch. Vietnamese tea was absolutely delicious and healthy.

The food on board was delectable and beautifully presented, meeting 5-star standards. We loved Vietnamese food and there were also many options for vegetarians. The soups were absolutely delicious and memorable. Our rooms were clean, luxurious, and large. It even had a balcony and jacuzzi. We loved this cruise and would love to be back one day!

The highlight of our vacation in Vietnam was definitely the experience with Ylang Cruise. Halong Bay was absolutely a must-visit destination, really stunning and impressive. Kayaking, cycling, and beach activities were awesome and well planned. But as they are physically demanding, they are not very suitable for elderly and kids. I highly recommend this lovely cruise for couples and groups of friends who love exploring adventures!

Heritage Line Ylang Cruise

Heritage Line Ylang Cruise , the latest member of Heritage Line’s ship collection in Lan Ha Bay, features a splendid blend of Asian-Vietnamese design with French-Colonial accents. This ancient flair of Indochina emanates throughout the vessel with a delicate floral leitmotif inspired by local poetry and related to the four seasons of the year. Local artisans contributed to  Ylang’s decoration with hand-crafted paintings and artwork using various materials and techniques. All suites are dedicated to a particular blossom which typically represents a season in Vietnam. All this creates an inimitable sense of bliss and an exceptional abode at sea.

Ylang has only ten spacious suites on two decks – each room is flooded with natural light pouring in through floor-to-ceiling panoramic doors that open onto a private balcony. What makes  Ylang unique, is its expansive spa with its extensive selection of thoughtfully selected treatments. The focus on wellness lives on in the more dynamic activities such as yoga in a dedicated room, or early morning Tai Chi lessons on the upper deck.

Dedicated to well-being and serenity, Ylang offers you deep insights into Lan Ha Bay’s natural beauty all while providing a holistic wellness experience.

Leave Hanoi at 9:00 AM if you opt for a private transfer or between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM for the shuttle bus, arriving at Tuan Chau Marina around 11:30 AM (transportation service upon your request). 11:45:  Embark on a captivating journey through Halong Bay as you acquaint yourself with the amenities aboard the vessel. Take in the breathtaking scenery from the sun deck as we begin the cruise. 14:00:  Your first stop is Cua Van, one of the floating fishing villages in Halong Bay where some fishermen still carry out their traditional fishing and aquacultural activities. Glide through this peaceful area in a small bamboo boat rowed by locals, gaining insight into the village life and the once-thriving communities that lived on these waters. For those seeking a more active experience, complimentary kayaks are available for a personal exploration around the floating hamlet. 15:30:  Transfer by tender to Tien Ong Cave, which offers fascinating insights into the geological history of Halong Bay dating back to 10,000 – 8,000 BC. 17:00:  Returning to the ship, sail to the overnight mooring area, where the tranquil "blue hour" reveals the magical beauty of Halong Bay. Relax on the sun deck with your favorite drink, soaking in the serene atmosphere. Participate in a cooking class with the chef to learn classic Vietnamese recipes that will surely impress your family and friends when you recreate them at home. 19:00:  As evening falls, indulge in a multi-course à la carte dinner. 20:30:  For those interested, join the onboard presentation about the unique features and secrets of the bay. Alternatively, try your hand at squid fishing with the staff for a delightful and entertaining experience. Spend the rest of the evening marveling at the enchanting landscapes of Halong Bay, where legend has it that sparkling jewels once cascaded from a heavenly dragon.

06:00:  Awaken to the gentle waves and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, complemented by pastries in the dining room. 06:30:  Engage in the morning Tai Chi class on the sun deck for a harmonious start amid the scenic surroundings. 07:30:  Embark on an excursion aboard your day boat to explore the unique wonders of Halong Bay. 08:00:  As you sail towards your first destination, the impressive Sung Sot Cave, indulge in a delicious breakfast served onboard. 08:30:  Spanning an expansive 10,000 square meters, Sung Sot Cave boasts two magnificent chambers. The outer chamber is adorned with stalactite chandeliers, while the inner chamber is aptly named the grand "opera house." Marvel at the pond, lush plant life, and stunning rock formations sculpted over millions of years. 10:00:  Return to the boat for some leisure time before venturing out to explore the marine landscape by kayak. 11:00:  Glide through the emerald waters amidst towering cliffs and verdant islets, reveling in the sense of freedom and tranquility. 12:30:  Continue your journey to a floating pearl farm, where you'll gain insight into the intricate process of cultivating, harvesting, and processing pearls. Witness skilled technicians delicately implanting seeds into oysters, with the promise of beautiful gemstones after several years of nurturing. 14:00:  Sail back to the mothership and return to your suite, where you can choose to bask in the sun, indulge in a spa treatment, or simply savor the mesmerizing "blue hour" on the open deck. 19:00:  After dinner, seize the opportunity to join the crew for a lively squid fishing activity, or unwind on a lounger, soaking in the serene ambiance of Halong Bay before retiring for the night.

06:00:  The dining room offers tea, coffee, and pastries for early risers, while a Tai Chi class on the sun deck awaits to invigorate your mind and muscles. 07:00: Begin the journey towards the small island named "Ti Top," previously known as Cat Nang. The island was renamed after former President Ho Chi Minh and Russian astronaut Gherman Titov toured Halong Bay together in 1962. Fascinated by the picturesque islet, Mr. Titov, the second man to orbit the Earth, inspired Uncle Ho to rename the island as a symbol of friendship between their two nations. 07:30:  Upon arrival at Ti Top, you have the option to take a refreshing morning swim at the sandy beach or, for those seeking activity, embark on a 400-step climb (approximately 20 minutes) to the island’s summit for breathtaking panoramic views of the bay. 08:30:  Upon returning to the ship, freshen up with a shower before enjoying breakfast as you sail back to the harbor. 09:30:  Relax on the sun deck and soak in the final moments of your journey while savoring the iconic views of Halong Bay. 10:30:  Disembark at the harbor, marking the end of your memorable cruise. Meet your driver for a transfer back to Hanoi or another destination if transportation arrangements have been made. * Please note that the itinerary may change due to weather conditions.

  • Itinerary: 3 days 2 nights

Tourists show up at the welcome lounge of Heritage Line at Tuan Chau Marina, then tourists will be transferred by speedboat to the luxurious Heritage Line Ylang Cruise that is waiting at the embarkation point. The journey will take tourists to Lan Ha Bay, the peaceful and no less impressive neighbor of Halong Bay.

While the boat is cruising towards Lan Ha Bay, tourists will have a tasty lunch with local cuisine at the elegant restaurant, where tourists can enjoy an overview of Lan Ha Bay.

After lunch, tourists are free to relax on the deck or at the private room and prepare for the afternoon excursion. While Heritage Line Ylang Cruise is travelling towards Cat Ba Island, passengers can enjoy spa treatment and massage, or immerse in the outdoor pool.

The rendezvous of the day is Viet Hai Fishing Village, which nestles in a small corner of Cat Ba. It is a reserved area, where the community is nearly isolated from the outside world and nature still retains its pristine appearance.

A bike or an electric cart will take tourists through the village. The journey to Viet Hai Fishing Village is a good opportunity to explore the unique customs and traditions of the local residents, meet the hospitable residents and experience their daily life.

After the trip to Viet Hai Fishing Village, tourists will get back to the cruise and relax with some activities on board. You have some options such as tea tasting, spa treatment or sightseeing on the deck to admire the sunset in the sea.

Your dinner is prepared and served at the luxurious restaurant, which offers you a variety of attractive choices from Vietnamese to international cuisine.

In the evening, passengers on Heritage Line Ylang Cruise experience meditation, relax and enjoy the sparkling night on the terrace deck or pamper the body at the spa.

The second wonderful day in Lan Ha Bay will start with a Tai Chi session on the terrace deck, where you can ease your mind and contemplate the splendid sunrise in the sea.

Following the morning exercise is a nutritious breakfast to provide tourists with enough energy for the whole morning excursion.

Cat Ba Island is the first destination in the morning, and tourists will be transferred there on a tender boat. Their Heritage Line Ylang Cruise will take tourists to visit one of the largest floating villages in the Gulf of Tonkin, which is not very far from Ben Beo town. The village is the home of nearly 300 families, who earn their living mainly on fishing and aquaculture. This is the place where you can get closer to the locals and find out how their daily life on the water is.

The next stopover of the morning is Cat Ba National Park, the world biosphere reserve in North Vietnam. Cat Ba National Park is the habitat for thousands of plants and hundreds of animal species. A light walk through the jungle will bring tourists an overview of this specific island. Tourists who are not interested in this activity can get back to the cruise and have some other activities instead.

After completing the morning itinerary, tourists will get back to Heritage Line Ylang Cruise and have a delicious lunch to recharge the batteries.

In the afternoon of the second day, the tender boat will take tourists to a pristine island, where a white sandy beach is located. There you can have plenty of selections: swimming, kayaking, sunbathing or grabbing a snack on the beach. Just enjoy the sea in your own way.

Alternatively, tourists can stay on board, have a massage at a spa or take a steam bath during the afternoon.

In the sunset, tourists will get back to Ylang Cruise, relax and have the last dinner on board. Heritage Line Ylang Cruise offers tourists another meditation on the terrace deck, or tourists can unwind at the private cabins.

Another Taichi session at the deck will help you to ease your mind and muscle and provide you energy for the third day of excursion.

Breakfast with Vietnamese tea, coffee and pastries in the dining room is waiting for you, before the journey of the third day starts,

Heritage Line Ylang Cruise will take tourists to visit Frog Lake, an ideal spot for swimming and kayaking. A bamboo boat or kayak is a different viewpoint to see the dreamlike seascape of Lan Ha Bay.

When you get back to the cruise, you will be served with a hearty breakfast while the cruise is back to the disembarkation spot.

The tender boat of Heritage Line then will bring you back to the welcome lounge at Tuan Chau Marina, and the journey to Lan Ha Bay on Heritage Line Ylang Cruise ends.

Ylang in the bay

Ylang Deals

Floating fishing village

Launched in 2019, the three-sail Ylang offers cruises around Lan Ha Bay ‒ a secluded part of Vietnam’s Halong Bay. The vessel features a splendid Vietnamese design with French-Colonial accents and, with a maximum of only 20 guests, she is the only ship in the region to offer a distinct wellness theme during her voyages into this less-visited area.

Ylang has only 10 spacious all-suite cabins on board, all of which have private balconies. Spread over two decks, each room has large, floor-to-ceiling, panoramic doors. Six of these cabins are classified as Signature Suites; each is a 431-square-foot room including a 59-square-foot balcony with a table and two sun chairs. There is a separate living area, while in the sleeping area, the bed is oriented towards the window.

Bathrooms are fitted with walk-in showers and soaking tubs, each positioned next to a window overlooking the Bay. Decor throughout is elegantly inspired; the dark wood panels are adorned with pink and silver mosaics of cherry blossoms representing Vietnamese poetry.

The four Regency Suites are the largest accommodations aboard, each with 549 square feet of living space, accompanied by generously sized balconies that range from 86 to 108 square feet. Each showcases a uniquely individual décor and furniture, colonial motifs and color schemes representing Vietnamese culture.

Facilities On Board

The facilities aboard Ylang include a heated jacuzzi-pool perched under the shadows of the ship’s triple sails on the uppermost Terrace Deck, a cozy indoor library lounge and the distinctively Indochinese-styled restaurant with adjacent bar evoking the grand days of old Indochina.

All of the cabins aboard Ylang include air-conditioning, a mini-bar, safe, Wi-Fi internet access, a Bluetooth speaker, toiletries, bathrobes, a hair dryer, slippers, a sun hat, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a luggage rack.

Wining & Dining On Board

Traditional Vietnamese delights are paired with Western favorites to create a wide range of dishes created from healthy ingredients. Lunch and dinner is always served in the dining room, which evokes the ambiance of a bygone era, complete with paddle ceiling fans and colonial-style rattan furniture.

If you wish, you can have breakfast in the privacy of your suite. Adjacent to the dining room is the bar, which offers up a wide array of cocktails, wines, spirits and beers, complemented by 180-degree views.

Experiences On Shore And Aboard The Ship

On shore experiences include leisure cycling and hiking on Cat Ba island, a visit to a local floating fishing village and activities such as swimming and kayaking. On board you can enjoy cooking workshops and movie nights or visit the expansive Ylang Spa with its three treatment rooms and a wellness studio that offers classes in meditation, yoga and other mindfulness activities. Daily Tai Chi lessons are held on the ship’s terrace deck at sunrise.

3 Day - Senses of Lan Ha

itinerary map

Embarkation

AM : After meeting at welcome lounge at the Tuan Chau Marina, we take a quick speedboat transfer to your luxurious floating home before starting our unique journey of exploring one of the wonders of nature – Lan Ha Bay and its main island of Cat Ba.

PM : The first highlight of the cruise is lunch, which is served in Ylang’s nearly 360-degree light-flooded, elegant restaurant. Enjoy a fine menu of tasty local, international or vegetarian dishes freshly prepared by our culinary team. Relax on the terrace deck or on your private balcony and soak in the enchanting aura which emanates from the surreal seascape. While we cruise along in the early afternoon, there is time to enjoy the ship’s vast wellness and spa offerings. Choose your favourite treatment from an extensive spa menu, or take a plunge in the pool with infinity-like vistas.

As we reach the shore of a small lagoon on Cat Ba Island, we hop on bicycles (e-cart transfers are also available) for a leisure pedaling along small paved roads towards the Viet Hai village. Little has changed in Viet Hai since the ancestors of the 80 households settled here centuries ago. Situated in a valley within the Cat Ba National Park and surrounded on all sides by think forest and mountains, the locals are isolated from the island’s other villages and towns. The only access is via sea. The community is self-sufficient, as the residents provide for themselves by cultivating vegetables and fruits in the next door fields, growing rice of cause in the valley, and go fishing out in the bay. This is truly unique and authentic opportunity to meet local inhabitants and experience their local daily life. We have a glimpse of local households, see how they make medicine organically from a tree bark and we can also try various homemade liquors.

Back on board, we are sailing a little bit to find an exclusive and undisturbed parking spot for the overnight mooring in the midst of southern Lan Ha Bay. Join an optional tea tasting lesson in the restaurant to learn about Vietnam’s traditional herbal teas and gain insight into their health benefits. Alternatively, get pampered with a spa treatment or take a sauna session in Ylang’s fantastic spa facilities. We can also provide you with a foot massage in the privacy of your suite. For dinner, you can choose assorted dishes from the delectable multiple course menu. After dining, we offer in the wellness studio a guided “singing bowl meditation”. This is an ancient Tibetan ritual which intends to invoke a deep state of relaxation – it alleviates stress and promotes a better night of sleep. You can also opt for one of the best ways to spend the evening by just taking a seat under the stars on the terrace deck or on your balcony to embrace the serenity of this surreal landscape. Or if you would like to fully immerse yourself in relaxation, our spa is open until late.

Ylang's Senses of Lan Ha Day One - Excursion

Ben Beo, Cat Ba National Park & Lan Ha Bay Mooring Point

AM : Wake up early and have a coffee, tea or a pastry prepared in the restaurant before joining our Tai Chi session on the terrace deck. A great experience to ease your mind and muscles with the first rays of the sun touching the water. Afterwards you can re-energize from our wide selection of healthy or hearty breakfast offerings. Meanwhile, Ylang sails towards the very southern tip of Cat Ba Island. Here, we take our tender and visit one of a last remaining real authentic floating fishing villages, not far outside of the town of Ben Beo on the main island. This fishing village is home to approx. 300 families living in floating houses and making their living from fishing and aquaculture, much like their ancestors did. Get a close view of how the villagers live and work on the water in this unique community. We continue towards Ben Beo Pier, go ashore and travel a short distance along scenic island roads into the Cat Ba National Park. We like invite you for a leisurely and mindful walk (taking the same path both ways) through this lush, jungle-like forest to get a somewhat a feeling of this tropical island. Cat Ba National Park is designated as a biosphere reserve and hosts over 1,500 plant species, 78 avian, 20 reptilian and 32 mammalian species including deer, macaques and civets. Guests who would like to skip the light trekking, we bring back to the ship to enjoy Ylang’s facilities in the meantime.

PM : Once all back on board lunch is served, and the luxury Ylang resumes sailing northeast through the stony maze of Lan Ha Bay. Eventually we reach a secluded spot in the bay which will be the basis for our afternoon activities. Ylang will anchor here and we offer our guests an afternoon of “at-your-own-choice”. Our tender is available to commute between a wonderful natural island beach for relaxing or swimming. Kayaks are available as well to explore the calm area on your own. A snacks and drink station is set up on the beach if you get thirsty or need a bite to eat. Guests who like to stay on the ship, or those prefer to return from the beach, can enjoy from a treatment from our spa menu, or use the steam bath or sauna as complimentary available wellness facilities. Enjoy this afternoon the fullest as the clock is not ticking and take back home long-lasting memories from Lan Ha Bay.

Best Cruises in Lan Ha Bay: The Non-Touristy Alternative to Halong Bay

Most people who visit Vietnam have Halong Bay on their list of must-visit destinations . But what many don’t realize is that Halong Bay has become a victim of its own success. It is filled with hundreds of cruise boats and visited by thousands of tourists every day. And most cruise boats in Halong Bay are on the same schedule so you’ll encounter crowds at every stop along your cruise.

One of the best-kept secrets of Vietnam is the two neighboring bays that offer the same stunning scenery as Halong Bay but without the crowds. Bai Tu Long Bay sits just to the east of Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay is just to the south.

Best Cruises in Lan Ha Bay, Vietnam

So while Halong Bay gets all of the press, there are actually much nicer areas to enjoy a cruise in this region of Northern Vietnam. If you prefer visiting more off-the-beaten-path destinations, then a cruise in Lan Ha Bay is a perfect non-touristy alternative to Halong Bay.

Don’t forget to check out our web story: The Best Cruises in Lan Ha Bay

Lan Ha Bay, Vietnam: How to Choose the Best Cruise

Halong bay or lan ha bay: which is right for you.

Lan Ha Bay, Vietnam: How to Choose the Best Cruise

You’re probably wondering if you should choose a cruise to Lan Ha Bay or Halong Bay. They are very similar so it can be difficult to decide which one to visit.

Halong Bay is actually quite close to mainland Vietnam so you’ll arrive in the bay rather quickly after boarding your boat. There is also fierce competition between the hundreds of cruise companies operating in Halong Bay. As such, cruise prices are cheaper and, in general, the cruises are for only one night. So Halong Bay is a great choice if you have limited time in Vietnam or if you’re working on a tight budget.

We have covered some of our favorite Halong Bay cruises in another post on our site.

However, if you choose a cruise in Halong Bay, you’ll constantly be surrounded by hundreds of other boats. You’ll also find that Halong Bay cruises operate on essentially the same schedule. For example, if your cruise is scheduled to visit Ti Top Island for sunset, at least 20 other boats will be stopping there at the same time too.

Lan Ha Bay is just south of Halong Bay so you’ll find that the scenery is every bit as spectacular, but it doesn’t yet have the international fame of Halong Bay. Lan Ha Bay is also farther from the mainland which means it is more isolated and much less developed from a tourism perspective. As an added bonus, Lan Ha Bay has dozens of picture-perfect white sand beaches tucked into its 400+ islands.

In Lan Ha Bay, you’ll find far fewer boats, far fewer crowds, and cruise boats that offer a more luxurious experience. When relaxing on your sun deck you’ll be able to gaze upon the towering limestone cliffs instead of countless other boats blocking your view. And smaller boats mean larger suites and a more personalized experience on board.

Getting to Lan Ha Bay

Lan Ha Bay: The Non-Touristy Ha Long Bay Alternative

Lan Ha Bay Cruises depart from two main harbors. Either departure point is about 2-2.5 hours from Hanoi:

  • Got Pier (Vietnamese: Bến Gót ) on Cat Hai island is the same harbor where you can catch the ferry to Cat Ba island.
  • Tuan Chao Marina (Vietnamese: Bến Tuần Châu ) on Dao Tan Chau island to the north which is where many Halong Bay cruises depart from.

The easiest way to travel from Hanoi to your cruise departure point is to let your cruise company arrange the transfer.

Almost all cruises offer a transfer service from Hanoi. Some will include it in the cost of the cruise while others will charge for it separately. It is typically $20-30 USD per person in each direction for the transfer service.

If you prefer a private transfer, it can easily be arranged by your cruise company or your hotel in Hanoi. Either way, plan on spending about $80 USD for a one-way private transfer between Hanoi and La Ha Bay.

The Closest Airports to Lan Ha Bay: Van Don Airport & Cat Bi Airport

If you’re coming directly to Lan Ha Bay from somewhere other than Hanoi, there are two lesser-known international airports that are quite close:

  • Van Dong International Airport (Airport code: VDO) is Vietnam’s newest international airport and is located about 40 miles Northeast of Halong Bay. That’s 60 miles closer than Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi. If your Lan Ha Bay cruise leaves from Tuan Chao Harbor then check flight prices into Van Don Aiport as it will certainly save you some time.
  • If your cruise departs from Got Pier on Cat Hai island then consider flying into Cat Bi International Airport (Airport code: HPH). It’s located in Hai Phong just 17 miles away from your Lan Ha Bay cruise departure point.

When to Visit Lan Ha Bay

Lan Ha Bay: The Non-Touristy Alternative to Halong Bay, Vietnam

Boats operate year-round in Lan Ha Bay and it’s hard to say with certainty what the best type of year is to visit.

In the summer months of April to September, the weather will be warmer and wetter. There is a higher likelihood that you’ll have rain during your Lan Hay Bay cruise, but the warm temperatures will make swimming in the bay and lounging on the boat deck at night more enjoyable.

The winter months of October to March are cooler and drier. You’ll be less likely to encounter wet weather, but the water may be too cold for swimming. Hiking and cycling on Cat Ba Island will be much more enjoyable in the cooler weather. But, you may find nights to be surprisingly cold so make sure to bring a light jack with you if you’re visiting Lan Ha Bay in the winter.

How Long to Spend in Lan Ha Bay

Lan Ha Bay Cruise (Vietnam): How Many Days?

In our opinion, you should plan on spending three days and two nights in Lan Ha Bay. Some of the cruise companies offer sailings that are just two days and one night, but it’s a very rushed itinerary.

In our opinion, you should plan on spending three days and two nights in Lan Ha Bay.

Lan Ha Bay is much further south than Halong Bay so it will take your boat longer to get there. Since you’ll spend most of your first day sailing south to Lan Ha Bay and most of your last day sailing north back to the pier, you’ll really want at least one full day in the middle to truly appreciate the beauty and serenity of Lan Ha Bay.

Plus, you’ll be able to spend more time exploring the bay by kayak or cycling/hiking on Cat Ba island (depending on what activities your cruise itinerary includes).

ylang cruise reviews

I’ve booked a 3 day/2 night in October that spends time in both Ha Long and Lan Ha Bays. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and, as busy and crowded as Ha Long is these days, I’m hoping to spend a minimum amount of time there. Hopefully, Lan Ha isn’t heading that way as well. Perhaps the Vietnamese Govt. should start regulating the number of cruisers?

Heritage Line Ylang

Ylang, the newest addition to Heritage Line’s Lan Ha Bay ship line, has an exquisite combination of Asian-Vietnamese style and French-Colonial flair. This historic Indochina flare pervades the vessel, with a delicate flower leitmotif inspired by native poetry and representing the four seasons of the year. Local craftsmen created hand-crafted paintings and artwork for Heritage Line Ylang using various materials and techniques. All suites are dedicated to a particular blossom, which typically represents a season in Vietnam. All this creates an inimitable sense of bliss and an exceptional abode at sea.

This luxury cruise has only ten spacious suites on two decks – each room is flooded with natural light pouring in through floor-to-ceiling panoramic doors that open onto a private balcony. What makes  Ylang  unique, is her expansive spa with its extensive selection of thoughtfully selected treatments. The focus on wellness lives on in the more dynamic activities such as “singing bowl” meditation or early morning Tai Chi lessons on the upper deck.

Cruise Itinerary

Day 1: hanoi - halong bay - lan ha bay - viet hai village.

  • Meet at Heritage Line’s welcome lounge at Tuan Chau Marina.
  • Take a short speedboat transfer to your luxurious Halong Bay cruise.
  • Settle into your cabin and freshen up.
  • Enjoy a delicious lunch with local, international, and vegetarian options in the ship’s nearly 360-degree, light-flooded, elegant dining room with panoramic views.
  • Relax on the sundeck, in your private balcony, or in the lounge area, soaking in the mesmerizing landscapes of Lan Ha Bay.
  • Choose your relaxation activity: Pamper yourself with a massage or other treatment from the spa menu (at an additional cost). Take a refreshing dip in the infinity pool with breathtaking views.
  • Explore a traditional floating fishing village: Cruise through the village for 30 minutes, learning about the community’s way of life. Enjoy a stop at a family home for a glimpse into their daily routines.
  • Bike or take an e-cart ride through Viet Hai village which has changed just a little since the ancestors of the nearly 100 households settled here centuries ago: Explore this secluded community nestled within Cat Ba National Park. Meet local residents and learn about their self-sufficient lifestyle – a truly unique and authentic experience. See traditional homes, and farming equipment, and sample their local wine. 8:00 – 8:30 AM : Our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter or our Shuttle Bus stop (if you have booked the transfer with us - an additional fee applies). We'll then embark on a scenic drive to Halong City. The transfer takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours , with an optional restroom stop along the way.

Upon your arrival at Tuan Chau Marina, a speedboat will be waiting to transport you to the Heritage Line's Ylang .

Savor lunch in the elegant dining room, bathed in panoramic light as you sail deeper into the bay. Relax on the sun-drenched terrace deck or your private balcony, soaking in the surreal seascape.

As we approach Cat Ba Island, disembark and journey to Viet Hai Village , nestled in a picturesque valley embraced by verdant mountains. Cycle through this tranquil haven, gaining fascinating glimpses into the locals' life. This self-sufficient community, nestled amidst lush forests and accessible only by sea, cultivates vegetables, fruits, and fishes the bay. Returning to the ship, we cruise to our serene overnight anchorage in Lan Ha Bay.

The ship's culinary maestro invites you to an interactive cooking class in the dining room, where you'll discover local ingredients and learn to prepare classic Vietnamese dishes. Extend the evening by unwinding at the bar with a digestif, joining the crew for some fun squid fishing , or simply retiring to the comfort of your suite.

Greet the day with a Tai Chi session on the terrace deck as the sun paints the sky. Savor breakfast as the ship navigates towards the northern port of Cat Ba Island and its national park. A scenic bus ride through the lush park leads you to the starting point for a leisurely hike , immersing you in this designated biosphere reserve. Discover over 1,500 plant species, 78 avian wonders, and diverse mammals like deer, macaques, and civets.

Lunch awaits back on board, followed by enjoyable sailing time. We then reach a secluded haven for your afternoon pursuits. Choose your own pace: bask on a pristine natural beach, explore the tranquil waters by kayak , indulge in rejuvenating spa treatments, or simply unwind in the steam baths or saunas. Savor this unhurried afternoon, crafting unforgettable moments.

As the sun dips below the horizon, the ship sets sail for its overnight mooring. Relish a multi-course dinner, then join our guided " Singing Bowl Meditation " or retreat to your suite, letting the serenity of your private balcony lull you to sleep.

Start your day with a Tai Chi session on the terrace deck. Awaken your senses with traditional Vietnamese coffee, tea, and breakfast pastries in the dining room. As we cruise towards "Frog Lake," a secluded haven, the invigorating morning air beckons for a kayaking adventure. Explore this captivating marine landscape, with cliffs rising majestically and jade-green waters weaving through a labyrinth of rocks and verdant islets.

Back on board, enjoy a hearty breakfast or brunch while we sail back to the disembarkation point. From there, a speedboat whisks you back to the pier.

Our driver will greet you at the Cruise Waiting Lounge and transfer you to Hanoi (additional fees applied). The journey takes approximately 2.5-3 hours, with a restroom stop available along the way (optional). You will be dropped off at your hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter or at our Shuttle Bus stop.

Questions & Answers (0)

Is there any lan ha bay overnight cruise departing from hai phong.

Currently, all Lan Ha Bay overnight cruises depart from ports in Halong city, Quang Ninh which is just a 1-hour drive from Haiphong.

When is the best time to book Lan Ha Bay cruises?

If you want to avoid heavy rains and storms, avoid June to September since this is the summer with higher chances of rain and storm. You can book Lan Ha Bay cruises at any other month. However, October to December could be the best time since the weather is very pleasant, dry and sunny, perfect for outdoor activities.

Do Lan Ha Bay Cruises include a beach excursion in a 2 day 1 night trip?

Lan Ha Bay Cruises often have excursions to the beach in a 2-night trip since the beach is usually located in the further parts of the bay. However, you still have a chance to swim in the jade water in a 1-night trip.

Is there a day cruise in Lan Ha Bay? Which port does it depart from?

Yes. Day cruises are available in Lan Ha Bay. Most Lan Ha day cruises depart from Tuan Chau Pier in Halong, Quang Ninh. Some less-popular cruises depart from Cat Ba island or Hai Phong.

Which are budget Lan Ha bay cruises?

Most Lan Ha Bay Cruises are newly launched and luxurious. However, you can choose some cruises with better deals such as Peony, La Casta Regal, Mon Cheri, etc. Besides, you can book Lan Ha Bay cruises during the low season from May to September or hunt for early bird or last-minute deals to save money.

s there any Lan Ha Bay cruise dropping off at Cat Ba?

All Lan Ha Bay cruises depart from and come back to the same port. However, some Lan Ha Bay cruises can drop you off at Gia Luan Pier on Cat Ba Island on the way back to the port in Halong.

More About Cruising in Lan Ha Bay

Voted among Most Beautiful Bays in the World (MBBW) in May 2020, Lan Ha Bay is increasingly recognized as a sought-after destination for worldwide travelers. Belonging to the Hai Phong province, Lan Ha Bay is located in the East of Cat Ba Archipelago and is an extension part to the South of Halong Bay.

No one can deny the untouched beauty that mother nature has to offer on Lan Ha Bay. There are only around 300 beautiful islands and islets, much fewer than the nearly 2,000 those in Halong Bay. However, Lan Ha Bay is blessed with plenty of natural white sandy beaches that you may not see many at the UNESCO Heritage Site Bay.

Lan Ha Bay is perfect for swimming in the crystal clear seawater, snorkeling to watch stunning coral reefs, kayaking to discover rocky mountains, and especially joining an overnight cruise tour to not miss out on the beauty of the bay from morning to night.

Facilities & services on Lan Ha Bay cruises and Halong Bay cruises - Are there differences?

Since Lan Ha Bay became known few decated later than Halong Bay, cruises operating in Lan Ha Bay are newer and more invested in facilities and services. While many cruises operating in Halong Bay are wooden and designed in traditional style, the majority of cruises launched for Lan Ha Bay are iron, bigger, and have a lavish design.

No matter whether Lan Ha Bay cruises come in contemporary or Indochina style, travelers have a chance to experience state-of-the-art facilities such as deluxe cabins with private balconies, outdoor four-season swimming pools, jacuzzi, pool bar, ocean-view restaurant, sauna, spa, gym. Entertainment is well taken into account, therefore, you can find the most modern facilities onboard such as mini golf, poker club, wine cellar, souvenir, art gallery, etc.

From the beginning to the end, you will always be escorted by a professional and dedicated crew team on Lan Ha Bay cruises. They take care of your meals and make sure you enjoy all the food. They provide full amenities in the cabin to bring the most comfort and are willing to help with any inquiries during your stay. They share interesting information about the formation of the bay and the local life here. Some ultra-luxury cruises even offer butlers, enhancing personalized service to travelers.

Apart from fundamental services, travelers can request conferences and special events such as a birthday party, a romantic proposal under the starry sky, a wedding on the beach, or even a fashion event. Lan Ha Bay Cruises boast a large space with up-to-date facilities, very ideal to celebrate special occasions.

What activities do Lan Ha Bay offer?

It is undeniable that Halong Bay cruises include more spectacular but bustling attractions in the program. They could be the 10,000sqm Surprising cave, the biggest island Titop with both swimming and hiking activities, the biggest fishing village Cua Van, etc. However, if you are a privacy seeker and want to indulge yourself in pure nature, Lan Ha Bay cruises certainly exceed your expectations.

You can find most activities on Lan Ha Bay similar to those on Halong Bay, both onboard and offboard activities, but less crowded and hustling.

Visit Dark - Bright Cave by kayak or sampan boat

Dark-Bright Cave is among the top attractions in Lan Ha Bay thanks to the serene scenery. Here you can opt for a kayak or sampan boat rowed by a local. After getting through Bright Cave, you will witness a peaceful lagoon embraced by forested mountains. You also have a chance to see monkeys climbing on the craggy cliffs or squirrels in the trees here.

Swim in untouched areas

It is never complete without swimming in the crystal clear water of Lan Ha Bay. The bay is calm and clean and perfect for jumping off the boat or trying water sliding. If you want to try sliding, Capella Cruise is the one you need.

Swim and kayak at Ba Trai Dao beach area

Although there are up to 139 natural beaches on Lan Ha Bay, not all beaches are easy to access and have enough space for tourists. Ba Trai Dao is among the biggest and most beautiful beaches you never want to miss. However, the trip to Ba Trai Dao depends much on weather conditions.

Cycle around Viet Hai village on Cat Ba island

Lan Ha bay cruises diversify your experience with trips to Cat Ba island - the biggest island in Cat Ba Archipelago. This trip is usually included in the 2-night itinerary and guests are transferred to the island by a small boat. Viet Hai Village is an ancient village where you can see the rustic landscape and learn about the local life. If you are an active traveler, biking would be the best. Otherwise, taking an electric car is available to save energy and be more relaxed.

Discover Trung Trang Cave on Cat Ba Island

Trung Trang Cave is a small cave but has a pristine beauty. Located in Trung Trang valley, the cave attracts tourists with long-lasting stalactites and stalagmites. Although Trung Trang cave is around 300-meter long only, you will know a bit more about the unique formation and the rich ecosystem here.

Visit Quan Y Cave on Cat Ba Island

Another highlight cave on Cat Ba island is Quan Y Cave, also known as Military Hospital cave. This cave was used as a hospital in wartime. Visiting Quan Y Cave, travelers will learn more about the history of the area as well as enjoy the fresh atmosphere in the surroundings.

Tom Cruise carries the IOC Flag during the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at Stade de France on August 11, 2024 in Paris, France

Au revoir Paris, Hola LA.

In a nutshell, that was the just completed ceremony of  the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad.

It was Tom Cruise leaping off the rim of the Stade de France to take the Olympic flag from LA Mayor Karen Bass and Simone Biles. As the guitar riffs of H.E.R. filled the air, Cruise then exited on a motorbike to deliver the flag to a sunny West Coast. It was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Olympic fixture Snoop Dogg getting into the pre-recorded groove down in Long Beach.

Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony In Pictures

It was over the top and cliche filled – – as if anything less would have sufficed.

Amazing !!! LA28 à vous les Jeux Olympiques. Enjoy! Amazing!!! @LA28 , your turn. Enjoy! https://t.co/hpTm79qBrY — Paris 2024 (@Paris2024) August 11, 2024

Next to the artistry of Paris, it may have seemed so American – even the handover was produced by Brits Fulwell73. Yet, if the next Summer Games are in America, and in the home of Hollywood ..well,  as Jimmy Fallon near screamed on NBC on Sunday: “that’s how you do it!”

When Dr. Dre showed up to reunite with his long-time collaborator and Super Bowl  LVI Halftime Show pal Snoop, it was pure LA Love, to paraphrase the N.W.A vet’s 1994 hit “California Love” with Tupac Shakur.

With all that star power, the spectacle of the Paris portion of the three-hour closing ceremony simply dimmed. That was just a fact, even with Gold medal swimmer Léon Marchand bringing a full circle conclusion to the event as he brought the Olympic flame into the French stadium.

Yes, back in France, Phoenix showed up amidst a mosh pit of athletes at the Stade de France, joined by Kavinsky and Angèle, the rock band gave us what would be a mini-Coachella across the Atlantic.

But it was no LA, where real Coachella headliners flexed for their hometown.

Very much like the opening ceremony, which was also the brainchild of artistic director Thomas Jolley, the overly conceptual French portion of the multi-segment closing ceremony stumbled as a small screen event, even if it looked spectacular in the stadium itself.

The first Olympics to achieve gender parity, today’s closing ceremony to the 19-day event was a much more traditional affair than the disjointed July 26 extravaganza on the River Seine.

From the opening song by Zaho de Sagazan and Marchand beginning his journey, transporting the Olympic flame back to the 70,000-packed stadium, all the rumors and leaks were focused on the next games and what would LA bring to its part of the show on Sunday.

In that sense, what shouldn’t be forgotten is what a truly great job NBCUniversal did this time round. From constant live multi-sport coverage and replays on Peacock, the fun of the streamer’s Gold Zone and the wit of send Snoop into uncharted territory, and the hours of daily on linear networks, the Comcast-own company was Gold medal worthy. Yes, there were some bloopers and blunders (guys, need to raise your flag identification game), but in such comprehensive coverage over multiple platforms, NBCU enacted a true 21st century model that just might contain the seeds of new revenue streams that can be skinned on other big events, sports and otherwise – and that’s a win by any metric.

Trying to keep it up-close and personal for viewers in the early portion of today’s closing ceremony, NBC’s main Olympics man Mike Tirico and his newly minted co-host, Jimmy Fallon, pulled off a few tricks. Chatting live with Team USA flagbearers and Gold medalists Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead as they entered the stadium with the Parade of Athletes was certainly a bit of fun. The medal ceremony for the Women’s marathon runners and the athletes’ of Queen’s “We are the Champions” were both a joy to watch.

Otherwise, over on NBC, it was mainly a standard list of stats, names and bullet points about sustainability from the duo and commentators 1998  Olympic figure skating gold medalist  Tara Lipinski, two-time Olympian figure skater Johnny Weir and Terry Gannon. Though the “God, the French are cool” remark as a piano vertically played “The Hymn to Apollo” made one wonder if any of them had ever attended a Vegas residency.

Irritating no one but the IOC, NBC cut away from most of retiring Olympic boss Thomas Bach’s speech about the role the Games play in creating a culture of peace speech. While expected to be the last time we hear from Bach in his present capacity, the remarks were, like the closing ceremony itself, fairly tame and boilerplate, all things considered.

Coming off the re-normalization of the Olympics in Paris, the City of Angels and the Casey Wasserman -led Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee made sure to put on a true Hollywood production. Earlier Sunday, Wasserman told NBC’s Tirico that what he learned the most from Paris 2024 was “their willingness to really think outside the box.”

Truthfully, there wasn’t much thinking outside the box with the LA portion of the closing ceremony, but there was a lot of what invented the box.

Tom Cruise, Billie Eilish lead star-studded handoff at Closing Ceremonies

Cruise dropped into the Stade de France, before Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg performed in L.A.

ylang cruise reviews

Star power took over the 2024 Olympic Closing Ceremonies on Sunday evening, which featured Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg performing from Los Angeles, the band Phoenix rocking the Stade de France, and Tom Cruise rappelling down from the top of the 80,000-seat stadium and riding a motorcycle through Paris to close out the Games.

The celebration set the stage for what’s to come for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

Cruise embodied the action heroes he plays on screen with the eye-catching stunt. After he landed on the stadium floor, he was swarmed by athletes. He was then handed the Olympic flag by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who was joined by Simone Biles. Cruise then hopped on a motorcycle and appeared to zoom out of the arena.

The Style section

The television broadcast then cut to a previously recorded video of Cruise heading through the streets of Paris to an airplane, where he brought the flag from France to the United States. Then, Cruise sky-dived to the Hollywood sign which had a new look — the Olympic rings were overlaid. Once he landed, Cruise handed the flag to other Olympians as they ran through the city to Venice Beach. America, everybody!

Once at the beach, the prerecorded concert started off with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, with Anthony Kiedis in a mesh shirt which he lifted over his head as the band performed their 2002 hit, “Can’t Stop.” Eilish performed a more recent hit, “Birds of a Feather,” from a nearby lifeguard stand, before Snoop Dogg, who dominated this Olympics, was joined by Dr. Dre.

The closing ceremonies kicked off on Sunday afternoon from the Stade de France. French singer Zaho de Sagazan opened the closing ceremonies with a rendition of Édith Piaf’s “Sous le ciel de Paris.”

The ceremony — which took place on an abstract stage shaped like the world map, but was reminiscent of the Aggro Crag from the ’90s Nickelodeon show “Guts” — featured plenty of electronic music, including songs by the French house band Justice and “Midnight City” by M83. Athletes and attendees sang along as Queen’s “We are the Champions” played in the booming stadium.

The bulk of the presentation displayed French artistry, music and choreography, including a segment where acrobatic gray figures helped raise the five Olympic rings to the stadium ceiling. French President Emmanuel Macron watched on as commentators marveled at the “unreal” spectacle. “God, the French are cool,” said one NBC commentator.

Phoenix kicked off their set from France with “Lisztomania” surrounded by hundreds of athletes who had rushed the stage. Announcers in the stadium kindly asked the athletes to leave the stage — repeatedly. The band was later joined at by Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. The early aughts nostalgia continued throughout the program, as Kavinsky, who performed the song “Nightcall” (the track was featured prominently in “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling).

Though many, presumably exhausted, Olympic athletes sat as the Closing Ceremonies wore on throughout the three-hour-program, they appeared to go off without much of a hitch. Wrapping up the ceremonies was the president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, who put it plainly: “And that’s it!”
