Giro 2024 : Liste complète de tous les participants au Tour d'Italie 2024

C'est l'heure des grands tours en cyclisme sur route !

Le Giro se déroule du 4 au 26 mai 2024 sur les routes italiennes. Certains des meilleurs cyclistes de la planète ont fait de cette course mythique un objectif majeur de leur saison.

À moins de 100 jours des JO de Paris 2024 , il sera même possible de voir certains des prétendants aux médailles olympiques lors de ce Tour d'Italie . C'est notamment le cas de Tadej Pogacar , récent vainqueur de Liège-Bastogne-Liège et troisième de l'épreuve en ligne des JO de Tokyo 2020 .

Dans le peloton qui prendra le départ de cette course de trois semaines à Venaria Reale le samedi 4 mai, on retrouve aussi de nombreux Français dont Romain Bardet , Christophe Laporte ou Julian Alaphilippe .

Le parcours officiel du Giro 2024 a été dévoilé le 13 octobre. Retrouvez ici le parcours et l'ensemble des profils des étapes du Tour d'Italie 2024, qui aura lieu du 4 au 26 mai.

Le Tour d'Italie est le premier Grand Tour de la saison. Cette année, il y aura au programme deux contre-la-montre individuel et 6-7 étapes de montagne pour 7 arrivées au sommet. Ce parcours du Giro d'Italia 2024 est beaucoup plus "simple" qu'à l'accoutumé et son tracé n'est pas des plus passionnant malheureusement. A noter qu'il y aura environ 8 opportunités pour les sprinteurs. Voici ci-dessous le profil des étapes du Giro 2024.

Le Tour d'Italie 2024 devrait se jouer en partie lors des contre-la-montre, qui seront décisif, ainsi que lors de la 20e étape et le fameux Monte Grappa .

Etape 1 modifiée : Veneria Reale - Torino (136km) ➡️

Pas simple pour une première étape mais rien d'insurmontable non plus? Le Colle Maddalena (6km à 7,5%) devrait néanmoins éliminer les purs sprinteurs et pourrait récompenser les attaquants les plus solides. Il faudra pour cela résister au retour de ce qu'il restera du peloton. Pogacar semble le grand favori au premier maillot rose.

Etape 2 : San Francesco al Campo - Sanctuario di Oropa (150km) ➡️

Dès le 2e jour, première arrivée au sommet du Tour d'Italia 2024 avec la montée d'Oropa qui avait couronné Tom Dumoulin en 2017. La montée n'est pas très dure (12km à 6,2%) mais assez irrégulière avec un passage à 13%. Par ailleurs, nous ne sommes pas à l'abri qu'une échappée ailles au bout, dans le cas où Pogacar voudrait perdre le maillot rose pris la veille, ou ne pas le prendre. Etape 3 : Novara - Fossano (165km) ➡️

Enfin une opportunité pour les sprinteurs, qui sont nombreux au départ de ce Giro d'Italia 2024. Rien à signaler à part qu'il faudrait être bien placé afin d'éviter un gros effort dans la bosse finale, qui n'est pas très dure.

Etape 4 : Acqui Terme - Andora (187km) ➡️

Bis répétita entre Acqui Terme et Andora. Là aussi le final est piégeux avec une descente menant à l'arrivée mais cela ne devrait pas empêcher les sprinteurs de se jouer la gagne.

Etape 5 : Genova - Lucca (176km) ➡️ Nouvelle chance pour les sprinteurs, la 3e en cinq étapes avec cette arrivée à Lucca. Une seule grosse difficulté, loin de l'arrivée avec le Passo Del Bracco qui ne devrait avoir aucune influence sur la course.

Etape 6 : Viareggio - Rapolano Terme (177km) ➡️

Quelques chemins blancs entre Viareggio et Rapolano les Termes. Deux secteurs décisifs, de 4,4km et 4,8 km, assez loin de l'arrivée mais tout de même dans la deuxième moitié de course. Le deuxième secteur se fera en montée mais c'est tellement loin de l'arrivée qu'on imagine mal des mouvements de leaders, surtout avec le contre-la-montre le lendemain.

Etape 7 : Foligno - Perugia (ITT, 40,6km)

Premier chrono du Giro, et il sera vraiment coupé en deux parties. Une première partie roulante et une deuxième en montée irrégulière sur environ 7 kilomètres. De quoi faire des différences entre les rouleurs et les grimpeurs. Le match sera intéressant à suivre entre un Ganna et un Pogacar.

Etape 8 : Spoleto - Prati di Tivo (153km) ➡️

Le Prati di Tivo, bien connu des coureurs du Tirreno Adriatico, sera la première grosse explication entre les leaders avec une montée régulière de 15km à 7%. L'étape ne comporte quasiment aucun kilomètre de plat, ce qui devrait bien fatiguer les coureurs, d'autant que l'étape intervient à la fin de la première semaine de course.

Etape 9 : Avezzano - Napoli (205km) ➡️

Quatrième opportunité pour les sprinteurs avec cette étape toute plate entre Avezzano et Napoli. Toute plate jusqu'à son final légèrement accidenté qui pourrait motiver les attaquants les plus valeureux voulant profiter d'un peloton fatigué.

Etape 10 : Pompeï - Cusano Mutri (Bocca della Selva) (141km) ➡️

Dès le lendemain de la journée de repos, il faudra tout de suite se remettre dans le bain avec un ascension bien difficile, le Bocca della Selva et ses 18km à 5,7%. Attention, le pourcentage moyen est trompeur avec cette petite descente au milieu de la montée. La première partie et la dernière partie sont plutôt autour des 8%.

Etape 11 : Foiano di Valfotore - Francavilla al Mare (203km)   ➡️

Encore une chance pour les sprinteurs, décidemment gâtés cette année. L'arrivée se fait sur une grande ligne droite qui devrait favoriser les sprinteurs puissants.

Etape 12 : Martinsicuro - Fano (183km) ➡️

Une étape vallonnée mais pas aussi difficile qu'on aurait aimé. La dernière côte, San Costanzo fait 2km à 6,7%. Si la première partie est difficile sur ces 900 premiers mètres à 9%, la deuxième partie est beaucoup plus simple. Il ne faudra donc pas perdre de temps et il sera difficile de faire de gros écarts.

Etape 13 : Riccione - Cento (179km) ➡️

Du plat et encore du plat dirait Patrick Chassé. Un sprint massif et puis c'est tout.

Etape 14 : Castiglione delle Stiviere - Desenzano del Garda (ITT, 31km)

Deuxième chrono, cette fois-ci tout plat et qui conviendra parfaitement à un gros rouleur. Le nom de Filippo Ganna est évidemment le premier qui nous vient. Il sera sans doute imbattable. Attention, les grimpeurs non rouleur risque de prendre une sacré vague.

Etape 15 modifiée : Manerba del Garda - Livigno (220km)

Rares sont les étapes qui nous plaisaient sur ce Tour d'Italie 2024 mais le visage de cette 15e étape a complètement changé avec l'amputation de la Forcola di Livigno. A la place de cette longue ascension, les organisateurs ont placé le Mortirolo par son versant facile (12,6km à 7,6%) avant un final en deux temps par-delà le Passo di Foscagno (15km à 6,4%), une courte descente et la montée finale vers Livigno, longue de 4,7km à 7,7% mais avec des passages à 18% !! Après 220 km, en fin de 2e semaine, il faudra tout de même être très costaud.

Etape 16 : Livigno - Santa Cristina Valgardena (Monte Pana) (202km) - Modifié

La 16e étape est celle de la déception. La déception de voir le Stelvio si mal utilisé avant d’être supprimé, avec 120 kilomètres entre son sommet et le début du col suivant. Les favoris ne bougeront que dans les derniers hectomètres, où les pourcentages sont terribles.

Etape 17 : Selva di Gardena - Passo del Brocon (159km)

La 17e étape, lendemain de jour de repos, est "l'étape reine". Un départ difficile avec le Passo Sella, qui permettra à un groupe de grimpeurs de s'échapper. Un enchainement de cols sans plaine, et de beaux pourcentages sur une étape courte et dynamique. Dommage que le Passo del Brocon ne soit pas très difficile. Il faudra faire la différence entre les kilomètres 4 et 7 avec des passages supérieurs à 8%. Derrière, la pente diminue sur du 5-6% de moyenne maximum.

Etape 18 : Fiera di Primiero - Padova (166km)

Avant-dernière chance pour les sprinteurs. Rien de particulier à signaler à part que la journée sera longue et qu'il pourrait falloir se méfier du vent.

Etape 19 : Mortegliano - Sappada (155km)

Une étape taillée pour les baroudeurs avec un final difficile mais pas assez pentu pour que les leaders y trouvent un intérêt. Peut-être l'étape la plus ouverte de ce Giro 2024. On devrait avoir une très grosse échappée d'une vingtaine de coureurs mais possiblement un homme seul sur la ligne d'arrivée.

Etape 20 : Alpago - Bassano del Grappa (175km)

La double ascension du Monte Grappa sera le point d'orgue de ce parcours du Giro d'Italia 2024. Des pentes irrégulière allant de 8% à 14% durant 19 km ! Répété deux fois, en fin de Giro, cela peut faire des ravages. Tadej Pogacar pourrait même attendre cette dernière étape pour faire la différence et ainsi ne pas trop se fatiguer. La ligne d'arrivée se trouve 30 kilomètres plus bas, après une longue descente technique. Et nous aurons le vainqueur du Giro 2024.

Etape 21 : Roma - Roma (126km)

Le Giro termine en beauté visuellement dans les rues de Rome, pour un sprint massif et une victoire de prestiges.

The latest news and race results from Italy's Grand Tour, covering everything from the start lists to the race winners.

The Giro d'Italia 2024 marks the 107th edition of the Italian Grand Tour. Starting on May 4th, 2024, at the Venaria Reale, just outside Turin, the route heads south towards Naples before travelling back north and into the Dolomites. Day 21 and the final stage sees a city circuit around the streets of Rome on May 26th, 2024.

The three-week event is the opener in the trio of Grand Tours, followed by the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España .

The key riders for the Giro were influenced by a series of high profile crashes, with Wout van Aert crashing at Dwars door Vlaanderen , putting him out of contention for the race in May. Read the whole start list here .

Wales' own Geraint Thomas has set his sights on a Giro/Tour double , and rode the Tour of the Alps in April in preparation. However, he'll have incredibly stiff competition from Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, who announced his intention to ride the Giro in December 2023 , and has proven unstoppable so far this year, winning Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Strade Bianche , the latter in an 81 kilometre attack.

Giro d'Italia week one overview

Many expected Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) to dominate, but with a lead of 2:40 over second placed Dani Martínez (Bora-Hansgrohe) at the end of the opening week was still incredible.

The Slovenian waited until the second day to secure the pink jersey, as Jhonatan Narváez (Ineos Grenadiers) out-sprinted him. Pogačar extending his lead throughout the week with bonus seconds, before blowing his rivals out of the water won stage seven's time trial, putting two minutes into Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). He took the summit finish the next day for a bonus too, meaning he had won three of the opening nine stages.

The sprints were evenly shared, with wins for Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) across the nine days, with two wins for the breakaway.

Giro d'Italia week two overview

Things continued in much the same vein in week two of the 2024 Giro, with sprint wins for Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and mountain wins for Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), as the latter continued to tighten his grip on the pink jersey.

The week began with a win for the breakaway, one of just two in the six stages, as Valentin Paret-Peintre (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) won stage 10. Stage 11 saw Milan's second win of the Giro, a feat he would repeat on stage 13, which was briefly threatened by crosswinds. In between the pair of Milan victories, Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal Quick-Step) reminded everyone of his swashbuckling best with a stunning ride on stage 12.

General classification action resumed on stage 14, the second individual time trial, which was won by Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers), but Pogačar stretched his lead again. On stage 15, the last before the rest day, the Slovenian stamped his authority on the race, doubling his lead on the queen stage.

Giro d'Italia 2024: The route 

The Giro d'Italia 2024 route was unveiled on October 13, 2023. 

The race began in Piemonte on 4 May - and will include two time trials, six mountain finishes, and a final week in the Dolomites.

The iconic  Passo dello Stelvio will make an appearance, as well as a new climb, and the route also includes gravel sections.

Giro d'Italia 2024 route: Stage-by-stage

Giro d'italia 2024: the jerseys.

The rider wearing the pink jersey (maglia rosa) at the Giro d'Italia 2024 will be the one leading the general classification. This is the rider who has accumulated the fastest time around the route so far, inclusive of time bonuses collected. On the final day, it is awarded to the overall general classification winner along with the Trofeo Senza Fine.

There are other jerseys up for grabs too. The purple (ciclamino) jersey is awarded to the rider who has accumulated the most points. More points are offered at the end of flatter, punchier stages than on mountain finishes, so this is a jersey for the sprinters. The blue (azzura) jersey goes to the rider who accumulates the most points on classified climbs, and the white (bianca) jersey is like the pink jersey but given to the best young rider under 26.

Pogačar takes a stratospheric win in the Italian Grand Tour

Tadej Pogačar won the 2024 Giro d’Italia on May 26, by a margin not seen for decades, with the best comparison to his 9:56 winning margin being an 11-minute win in 1956 by the climbing legend Charly Gaul.

Behind him, as is traditional, the procession to Rome made no difference to the overall standings across the race.

Having seen his gap to Pogačar swell on stage 20 on the Monte Grappa, Dani Martínez (Bora-Hansgrohe) finished a distant second at a margin of 9:56, but can be content that in any normal year he may well have donned the maglia rosa ahead of Grand Tour winner Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers).

Thomas finished 28 seconds behind Martínez at a gap of 10:24 to the overall top spot - a margin that might normally separate the entire top 10 of a Grand Tour.

Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) missed the podium having fought illness through the final week, and was 1:43 behind the Welshman on the podium, and 12:07 down on the Slovenian race winner.

Behind him, Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) and Thymen Arensman (Ineos Grenadiers) came in fifth and sixth position, down 12:49 and 14:31 to Pogačar, respectively.

Einer Rubio (Movistar) finished seventh at a gap of 15:52, and Jan Hirt (Soudal Quick-Step) enjoyed a major GC boost after his fifth-place finish on stage 20, bumping him to eighth position and 18:05 down in the standings.

Romain Bardet (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) suffered on the slopes of the Monte Grappa on tage 20, slipping from seventh to ninth, and finished the race a jarring 20:32 off the pink jersey.

In 10th place, Tudor Pro Cycling will be celebrating a monumental Grand Tour placing in their first year as a UCI ProTeam as Michael Storer rounded of the top 10 at a gap of 21:11, despite a fight back to the peloton after a last-minute crash on the streets of Rome.

We’ve rarely seen such a spread of time across the top 10 in a Grand Tour, but far from a lack of strength-in-depth that gap speaks to the once-in-a-generation dominance seen at the Giro from Tadej Pogačar. This will certainly be an edition of the Italian epic that goes down in history.

These are the jersey classification at the 2024 Giro d'Italia:

Maglia rosa – The pink jersey is worn by the overall race leader on the general classification who has completed the stages in the lowest accumulated time.  

Maglia ciclamino – The cyclamen jersey indicates the points classification leader. Riders accrue points each stage at the two intermediate sprints and at stage finishes. The rider with the most points leads the ranking and wears the cyclamen jersey. 

Maglia azzurra – The blue jersey is for the mountain classification. Points are handed out to the first riders over specific categorised hills and mountain climbs during the Giro. The highest and steepest mountains award the most points. The rider with the most points leads the ranking and wears the blue jersey.  

Maglia bianca – The white jersey is for the leader of the best young rider classification. It is calculated b[based on the time races, like the maglia rosa, but only riders aged 25 or under are eligible to win it and wear it.

Giro 2024, étape 2: Parcours, profil, favoris... tout ce que vous devez savoir de la deuxième étape

Après une première étape en forme de mise en bouche et remportée par l'Equatorien Jhonatan Narváez , ce sont un peu les choses sérieuses qui démarrent sur le Giro ce dimanche, à l'occasion de la deuxième étape entre San Francesco al Campo et le Santuario di Oropa (Biella). Une épreuve avec une arrivée au sommet, pour les premières grosses difficultés du parcours, avec un Tadej Pogacar très attendu. Ça va grimper sur les routes italiennes ce dimanche. La deuxième étape s'annonce déjà difficile, avec une première explication entre favoris à l'horizon. Il s'agira de la première arrivée au sommet, à l'issue d'une montée finale à 6,2% sur près de 12 kilomètres.

Les favoris de la 2e étape

Un nom se dégage: celui de Tadej Pogacar. Favori à la victoire finale, le Slovène a déjà prouvé son brillant état de forme dans le final de la première étape, terminant deuxième juste derrière Narvaez au sprint. Sur le papier, le profil pourrait aussi convenir au Français Romain Bardet , qui a toutefois déjà connu quelques difficultés samedi. L'Italien Damiano Caruso ou le Gallois Geraint Thomas auront aussi un coup à jouer.

Le Giro 2024 sera diffusé sur la chaîne Eurosport 1, qui prendra l’antenne dès 12h45 pour le départ fictif de la 2e étape. Vous pourrez aussi suivre cette première étape du Giro en direct sur le site et l'application de RMC Sport.
