Why trust tripsavvy.

TripSavvy / Leticia Almeida

There’s nothing worse than arriving excitedly at your destination to find that your toiletries have spilled all over your suitcase. Or to be the person who holds up the line at security while the TSA agents discard your oversized liquids. Both of these scenarios are easily avoided by investing in a set of appropriately sized, 100 percent leakproof travel toiletry bottles. There are lots of options out there in terms of bottle quantity, size, and design, with the right one for you depending on factors such as how long you’ll be traveling and the complexity of your beauty routine.

To help you narrow down the choices, our team of travel experts put 14 toiletry bottle sets to the test. Each one was scored for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value, with average scores used to determine the winners of categories ranging from “best budget” to “most durable.”

Best Overall

Liquisnugs premium silicone travel bottles.

  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Performance 5 /5

Very secure, with no leaks during testing

Stick to vertical surfaces

Easy to stay organized

Lack of variety

The LiquiSnugs Premium Silicone Travel Bottles offer flawless performance at a price so reasonable our tester was shocked by it. The set includes two 2-ounce bottles and two 3-ounce bottles, both of which adhere to TSA carry-on regulations. We liked the flexibility afforded by the two different sizes since there are always products we need more and less of on vacation. We were able to easily fit all four in a quart-sized Ziploc bag simultaneously without placing pressure on any of them. All bottles are made of flexible, food-grade, BPA-free silicone, making them easy to pack and dispense.

With a dripless valve and bottleneck design, the bottles are advertised as 100 percent leakproof—a claim we can support, with no spillages even after being dropped and thrown around repeatedly during testing. We liked that the bottles’ wide mouths made them simple to fill, empty, and clean as needed. Other highlights include the suction pad on the back of each bottle (great for attaching them to the bathroom wall) and the changeable labels. Options for the latter include shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, soap, and lotion, enabling you to switch up the uses on each trip.

Best Budget

Vitog travel bottles kit.

  • Ease of Use 4 /5
  • Performance 4.5 /5

Multiple dispensing methods

Comes with several functional extras

Good value for money

Capacity could be larger

Retailing for half the price of our already affordable overall winner, the Vitog Travel Bottles Kit is a no-brainer for budget-conscious buyers. It includes six 1.4-ounce bottles and two 0.4-ounce bottles. The larger ones consist of two pump bottles with a removable clip to prevent accidental deployment, two spray bottles, and two flip-cap bottles. The smaller ones are miniature cream jars. All eight are made from clear PET plastic, which we found durable yet lightweight enough for travel. We also liked that we could easily see how much product was left.

We appreciated the thoughtful inclusion of a pipette, a funnel, and a spatula to help with decanting products from their original containers. They made the bottles relatively easy to fill, although we did experience some spillage when decanting thick body lotion. Nevertheless, there was no leaking or visible wear and tear after our intensive testing process. The set also includes a sheet of labels and a clear plastic toiletry bag. The only real drawback? None of the bottles are particularly big, making this option suitable for short trips only.

Cadence The Originals Set

  • Design 4.5 /5
  • Performance 4 /5

Unique design

Performed well throughout testing

Customizable

More of an investment than others

Limited capacity

The Originals from Cadence are small, hexagonal capsules with screw-top lids that connect magnetically together in any shape or configuration you like. Aesthetics are at the forefront of this brand, as you can choose different colors for each capsule as well as printed, switchable, magnetic labels. In fact, they look so cute that you could even buy toiletries in bulk and decant them into these capsules for use at home. Sustainable practices like these are reinforced by the fact that the capsules are made from 20 percent recycled ocean-bound plastic.

We love that the capsules’ wide mouths and rounded interiors make them effortless to fill, use, and clean. They’re also 100 percent leakproof, waterproof, and airtight, as proven by our testing process. We found them incredibly durable and can’t imagine a scenario that would result in them being punctured or crushed. They are small (each one carries just 0.56 ounces), which could be a drawback. However, a capacity calculator on the brand website suggests you can carry approximately a week’s worth of products, depending on how regularly you use each one.

Number of Bottles: 6 | Sizes: (6) 0.6-ounce | Materials: Hard plastic

Most Durable

Mrsdry travel bottles.

  • Ease of Use 3.5 /5
  • Design 4 /5

Soft yet rugged silicone construction

Effective leakproofing

User friendly

No diversity in size or design

If your primary concern when packing liquids in your hand luggage is leaking, you’ll love the Mrsdry Travel Bottles Set. It consists of four 3-ounce bottles, each made of thick silicone that feels ultra-durable, and they stood up perfectly to our squeeze and drop tests. We were particularly impressed with the bottles’ no-drip valves, which successfully prevented leaks. All four bottles use the same shape and dispensing method—a pro for those who want lots of capacity for fewer products, and a drawback for those with a more complex personal care routine.

Having said that, we did feel that this set is so reasonably priced, there’s nothing to stop you from buying multiple sets if you have more products to pack. Instead of labels, the bottles come in four separate shades to distinguish between them. We also liked that their wide opening makes them easy to fill, even with thicker liquids and gels. And when it comes to cleaning them, the bendable silicone easily accommodates a bottle brush. All colorways include a transparent carry case.

Number of Bottles: 4 | Sizes: (4) 3-ounce | Materials: Silicone

Best Variety

Morfone 16 pack travel bottles.

  • Ease of Use 4.5 /5
  • Quality 4.5 /5

Good array of containers

Burly silicone handles rough treatment

Jar lids are weaker than expected

Multicolored style may not suit everyone

The Morfone Travel Bottles Set caters to travelers with an extensive beauty routine. With 10 containers in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and dispensing methods, you can take a broad range of products in just the right quantities for your time away. Options are as follows: two 1-ounce spray bottles, two 3-ounce squeeze bottles, two 2-ounce squeeze bottles, two 1-ounce jars, and two 0.3-ounce jars. We were impressed by the capacity of the largest bottles, which we felt could easily hold at least four washes’ worth of shampoo and conditioner.

The bottles are made of durable yet flexible food-grade silicone, with wide mouths for easy filling and cleaning. We appreciated the inclusion of two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush to help with these tasks, as well as a sheet of labels. Most of the containers held up well to our durability tests with no leaks or spills. The only exception was one of the jars, which suffered a broken lid. The set comes in a transparent carry bag and could fit into a quart-sized Ziploc (a TSA requirement) with some skillful maneuvering, although it was tight.

Number of Bottles: 10 | Sizes: (2) 0.3-ounce, (4) 1-ounce, (2) 2-ounce, (2) 3-ounce | Materials: Silicone

Best for Larger Capacities

Insfit tsa carry-on approved containers.

Great value for money

Well-designed lids

Choice of cute color palettes

Can be finicky with certain products

The INSFIT set is ideal for those who like to keep things simple with only a handful of essential products but also tend to travel for longer and need as much capacity as TSA will allow. It features four identical 3-ounce silicone bottles large enough to hold at least one to two weeks’ worth of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and sunscreen (or similar). The bottles are squeezable, which makes dispensing simple, although we found that thicker lotions and gels were easier to squeeze if the bottle was at least half full.

Other highlights include fully removable caps and wide mouths for mess-free filling and easy cleaning, and three-layered lids that are essentially leakproof. Even during our pressure test, caps remained securely in place, and afterward, the bottles still looked brand new. In fact, we were shocked to find out how affordable this set is given its evident quality. We also liked the stylish, see-through carry bag and the fact that there’s a special place on the caps to stick the included labels so that they adhere properly.

Best for Backpacking

Matador flatpak toiletry bottle.

Ideal for reducing heft and bulk

Thoughtful design elements

Proved durable during our testing

Difficult to fill with thicker consistencies

Made of waterproof 30D Cordura ripstop nylon with proprietary welded construction, the Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles are by far the most technical option on this list. With their flat-pack design and sturdy quality, they’re designed especially for adventures and expeditions where saving on space and weight is a priority . With a capacity of 3 ounces each, they’re five times lighter and 3.5 times more compact than standard silicone bottles, and pliable enough to fit into tight spaces: the ultimate backpacking companion.

We found them easy to fill with any liquid that was the consistency of shampoo or thinner. Thicker gels and lotions were tricky since the mouth wasn’t as wide as that of standard travel bottles. Still, any mess is easy to clean off the waterproof exterior. They fit easily into a quart-sized Ziploc, and we love the snap hook for attaching to the outside of your backpack for on-the-go use. The loop also features a spot for writing a description of the contents with a permanent marker. As expected, the packs survived all our tests with zero leaks or signs of damage.

Number of Bottles: 3 | Sizes: (3) 3-ounce | Materials: 30D Cordura ripstop nylon

Our overall favorite was the LiquiSnugs Premium Travel Bottles set. These bottles stood out for their durable, leakproof silicone construction and thoughtful extras including adjustable labels and individual suction pads. For the most budget-friendly option, choose the small yet sturdily versatile Vitog Travel Bottles Kit .

Upon receiving the bottles, our first step was to examine their overall quality and design and note any unique features. Then, we filled at least three of the bottles in the set: one with lotion, one with micellar water, and one with shampoo. For each one, we noted how easy it was to fill without spilling, how easy it was to clean if spillage did occur, and how appropriate each bottle would be for holding different types of liquid. We also tested how easy it was to open the bottle and dispense the product inside.

Next, we compressed the bottles in our palms to mimic pressure. We shook them, rolled them, squeezed them, and threw them to stimulate rough handling in transit, noting how well they withstood this treatment. Our final test was to put all of the bottles from the set into a quart-sized Ziploc bag, and then inside a toiletry bag. Then, we dropped them from waist height three times, always from different angles, to see whether any breakages or leaks occurred and whether the bottles showed any signs of wear and tear.

Each set was scored on a scale of one to five for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value. Average scores were used to determine our category winners.

Other Travel Toiletry Bottles We Tested

GLOBEGEAR Travel Bottles : This nine-piece set features a solid range of containers and tools made of hard plastic that doesn't feel flimsy. We deducted points for the skimpy capacity of the bottles, which would only last a few days or applications (and made filling the bottles difficult), though the affordable price makes this a good option for the infrequent traveler.

Kitsch Travel Containers : Fans of variety will appreciate the range of products included in this compact kit. It won't set you back much and, accordingly, we feel it also won't last long. We like the idea of the flat containers but found them somewhat difficult to fill.

Cosywell Travel Containers : The Cosywell Containers are all the same shape in 10- and 20-milliliter capacities. We found the plastic and silicone jars easy to fill and well-designed, but they're more suited to thick liquids such as gels and creams.

What to Look For in Travel Toiletry Bottles

Durability is key when choosing travel toiletry bottles since containers that are easily punctured or cracked will result in a mess that’s at best inconvenient and at worst potentially expensive or upsetting depending on how much product is wasted and whether any other items in your carry-on are affected. Look for options made out of sturdy hard plastic or thick, flexible silicone, then check user reviews to get an idea of how the construction holds up under real-life travel conditions. If you’re planning an extreme adventure, technical options like the waterproof flat-pack bottles from Matador may be worth the extra expense.

Leakproofness

A bottle doesn’t have to break for leaks to occur—all it takes is a poorly constructed seal or lid. Look for bottles with a triple-layered leakproof cap and jars with a secure screw top. Pump bottles should come with a removable clip that prevents them from being deployed accidentally. Again, user reviews help check how efficient these measures are (it’s easy for a brand to advertise their product as leakproof, even if it’s not). Some brands, like Cadence, actually guarantee the efficacy of their leakproof design. Just in case, we always recommend storing toiletry bottles in a waterproof bag or Ziploc as a second line of defense.

If you plan on packing your toiletry bottles in your carry-on bag, you must make sure that none of them exceed the TSA-approved limit of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Some sets are made up of identical large bottles of around 3 ounces, giving you the maximum allowable capacity for each of your products. However, because all bottles must fit in a single quart-sized Ziploc bag, this limits the number of bottles to around four.

If you have more products to pack, you may prefer a set that divides this capacity between a greater number of smaller bottles and containers—especially if you only require some of your liquids in very small quantities. The length of your trip will also dictate how big you need your bottles to be unless you only plan on using your carry-on liquids as a backup in case the full-size versions in your checked luggage get delayed.

Toiletries can be stored in opaque, translucent, or transparent bottles of any color as long as each individual bottle does not exceed the maximum capacity limit. For carry-on bags, most authorities including TSA set that limit at 3.4 ounces. Liquids can be in their original container or decanted into any container of your choosing (even one that’s labeled incorrectly), as long as these size restrictions are adhered to.

Most airport authorities—including TSA—rule that bottles containing liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes cannot exceed 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) if you wish to pack them in your carry-on luggage . In addition, all of these bottles must fit inside a quart-sized Ziploc bag and be screened separately from the rest of your luggage at security. Containers that exceed this limit will not be permitted, even if the volume of the product inside is less than 3.4 ounces (for example, if you have a half-used bottle of conditioner). Note that these restrictions do not apply to checked luggage.

Although toiletry bottles don’t have to be labeled from a legal perspective, many people like to do so to ensure they don’t end up brushing their teeth with expensive moisturizer, or vice versa. Some travel bottles come with waterproof stickers, especially for this purpose, and you can also purchase them separately online. This is a better option than writing on a standard office label by hand since toiletry bottles frequently get wet and ink can run and cause staining or become illegible. Alternatively, a permanent marker applied directly to the bottle could be an option if you’re always going to use the same container for the same product.

How we tested

I scoured the internet to find the most popular travel toiletry bottles—searching a variety of retailers, reading hundreds of reviews, and considering online ratings. After my initial research, I put many reusable toiletry bottles to the test, trying out dozens of options that range in price, size, and design. I've had some of these toiletry bottles for over a year and they've accompanied me on a mix of weeklong vacations in checked luggage and short weekend trips in tightly-packed duffel bags .

Over the last several months, I tested another batch of options: I've filled them with a variety of skincare, hair care, and body products—thick body wash, contact solution, and leave-in conditioner included. I've even left these filled containers upside down overnight to see if there were any unexpected leaks. My findings: There are many great options on the market to choose from and you don't need to break the bank to find the perfect set for you. clear travel toiletry bottles

No matter how organized I try to stay, my bathroom counter at every hotel always becomes cluttered with my many toiletries and hair products . The LiquiSnugs look like your classic silicone travel bottles, but they feature a clever suction cup on the back that allows you to stick them onto any shower wall—freeing up limited counter space. These are great for in-shower products like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. This set of four bottles features two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles, so you can choose how much product you need depending on the length of your trip. Another smart design feature: Twist the top to adjust the label name so you won't forget what's inside. I've had these for about a year now and I consistently reach for these to pack shampoo and conditioner.

Pros : The unique suction cup design makes them great for shower products.

Cons : These occasionally will fall off shower walls if there's not a little bit of water to keep them in place.

clear travel toiletry bottles

This Amazon bestseller is versatile enough for every type of traveler. The 18-pack from Tocelffe features four silicone bottles of varying size (two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles), four small jars for creams and serums, two spray bottles, two spatulas, a funnel, labels, and a cleaning brush. These all come in a waterproof toiletry bag that you can reuse to carry makeup or tech essentials. In this set, I find myself mostly reaching for the ultra-soft silicone bottles, which are great for products like body wash, face cleanser, and micellar water. Each of these bottles feature three-layer leak-proof tops so you don't have to worry about spills in your bag. Something I love about these bottles is how they can be bent and squeezed easily to get every last bit of product out of them.

Pros: Very affordable, comes in a clear toiletry case, and the bottles' wide opening makes it easy to refill. Cons: The small plastic jars are not as reliable as the silicone bottles in this set.

If you're just looking for a few affordable no-frills travel bottles, these are for you. Available in a variety of colors, the silicone bottles do just what they say they will. They're leakproof, come in a set of four, and are easy to refill and clean. While there’s no bells and whistles, these three-ounce bottles pleasantly surprised me with just how much product they fit compared to some of the other classic silicone bottles we tested, making them an ideal option for a longer vacation. Plus, these have an average of 4.5 stars on Amazon with over 11,000 global reviews.

Pros: Versatility; available in many colorways

Cons : This set doesn't come with labels or a proper toiletry case.

Another solid choice for travelers is this set of four 3-ounce silicone travel bottles. These are squeezable, leakproof, and versatile enough to use for everything from shower products and soaps to sauces and baby food. These reusable bottles are all the same size and each a different color so you can differentiate them. Bonus: This set comes in a transparent toiletry case to keep them all organized in.

Pros : This set is available in a dozen colorways; wide opening makes them easy to refill without needing a funnel. Cons : This set doesn't come with labels.

If you prefer to bring along a bar of soap instead of using what's provided at the hotel, this compact soap box is a great travel companion. Inside, there's a soap mat that absorbs any excess water and prevents the soap from becoming mushy. I've used other plastic soap cases before without a mat and it always leaves a mess. This one features a silicone band that wraps tightly around the box for extra protection, and is about the size of a deck of cards.

Pros : Fits most commonly used soap brands, affordable, and features a simple-to-use design.

Cons : The soap box needs the band to stay secure so be careful not to lose it.

clear travel toiletry bottles

I've been a fan of Cadence's capsules for a few years now. These leakproof, airtight, and watertight magnetic capsules are unlike any other travel bottles I've used and are a true game changer when it comes to packing your own beauty products. The individual capsules magnetically snap together to take up as little space as possible in your Dopp kit and are designed without any right angles or edges, so you get every last bit of product available.

The original .56-ounce individual capsules are great for weekend trips and storing small items like daily vitamins and safety pins. The Capsule Flex System allows you to customize your own bundle with your choice of small , medium , and large sizes, as well as The Extender —an add-on that allows you to increase the size of the bottle when you need more room. This makes it so easy to customize your travel routine, whether you want to pack extra product for longer trips or bring enough body wash for you and your travel buddy. With The Flex System, you can still choose your own label for each capsule (the labels are interchangeable), as well as the color and number of capsules in your bundle.

Pros : It's easy to get every last drop of product inside each capsule and they are so easy to rinse out and reuse. The custom labels can be swapped out depending on what you're packing.

Cons : These are the most expensive option on our list.

clear travel toiletry bottles

I was eager to test out the Ries travel bottles after hearing a lot of buzz about the product and seeing them make their way into retailers like Sephora and Goop. These are a more elevated, aesthetically pleasing take on the classic reusable travel bottles you may have used in the past. Ries prioritized sustainability and design with these essentials: Each bottle is made from recycled plastic and features a large opening at the top, which makes it easy to refill and clean (not to mention, they're dishwasher safe). Travelers can purchases these bottles individually (a 3.4-ounce bottle or a 1.7-ounce bottle) or in a set with both sizes . My favorite thing about these bottles is the airless pump—I feel so glamorous while doing my nighttime skincare routine with these, and it makes it easier to use products like face wash or cleanser on the road. The bottles are pre-labeled (shampoo, conditioner, body, face) and you can twist the top to the side to conceal the opening, so product won't spill out.

Pros : Sustainably made; if you prefer a pump, these are for you.

Cons : On the pricier side; the bottles are a bit bulky and take up a little more room in my makeup bag than most travel-size products I use.

clear travel toiletry bottles

Finally, a solution to my contact lens woes. I can't count the number of times I've stopped into a drugstore to buy a mini bottle of contact lens solution before heading out on a trip, or to pick up rewetting drops because I'm dealing with dry contacts while away from home. This compact case makes cleaning and caring for contacts on the go much easier—it comes with an easy-to-fill reusable dropper that gives me a long weekend's worth of solution, a contact case, and has a mirror to help get them in and out. (I don't like to fly in contacts, so this is particularly handy if I forget to switch to my glasses before leaving home.) It weighs next to nothing, and will fit in all but my smallest handbags, so I've been keeping it on me regularly, not just when traveling. — Madison Flager, senior commerce editor

Pros : It comes with a tiny pair of tweezers to make removing contacts from the case less messy. Cons : The contact solution holder isn't large enough for weeklong trips.

clear travel toiletry bottles

I admit I've also been guilty of buying mini versions of my favorite contact solution. As much as I love reusable toiletry bottles for my skincare and hair products, I've never had anything that felt right for the consistency of my contact solution. I wear daily lenses, meaning I don't need a whole lot of solution with me when I travel, so it is a little frustrating to carry around a bottle that takes up precious space in my Dopp kit. Lately, I've been carrying about the Cauyuan eye glass case which comes with a super small dropper for contact solution. This refillable dropper holds just enough contact solution for weekend trips and shorter vacations and takes up such little space (I've even found myself tossing it in my handbag in case my eyes get a little dry.) This durable case keeps all of my eye care essentials together and protected, with a separate compartment for eye glasses, and another that holds the dropper, tweezers, a contact case, and a mirror.

Pros : All of my eyewear essentials are now in once place and stay organized; the dropper is small enough to fit in a tiny purse. Cons : The compartment for your eye glasses is on the small size—if you have thick or bulky frames, they might not fit.

clear travel toiletry bottles

I've never found a reusable spray bottle for my perfume that I've liked, so I've always relied on buying miniature versions of each of my favorite fragrances. But let's be real—those travel-size perfume bottles are expensive! They're often made of glass, too, making them vulnerable to breaking in your luggage. Enter the Vonovo mini refillable perfume bottles: Each of these holds 0.2 ounces of your favorite scent, more than enough for a long vacation. This set comes with five spray bottles, so you can bring along any of your favorites—or all of them. And they are so easy to use—simply pull off the top of your full-size perfume, press the bottom of the mini bottle on top of it, and keep clicking until its refilled. Each of the bottles have a clear vial inside so you can see how much product you have left. My favorite part: These are so tiny—think the size of a lipstick— meaning I can even bring them with me on a date night when I'm only carrying a small purse .

Pros : Easy to refill and compact enough to fit in even the tiniest of travel bags Cons : These spray bottles wont match the look of your full-size perfume and don't have labels, so you'll have to remember based on the color of the mini bottle you choose. Also, these can be refilled with the same perfume, but I wouldn't recommend reusing them with another scent.

clear travel toiletry bottles

For those with a more rigid skincare or haircare routine, this 16-pack lets you bring along every last product you want—and it all fits into one reusable case. The set comes with four silicone bottles, four jars, two spray bottles, two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush. The variety means you can pack everything from soap and shampoo to serums and sprays in here, and the cleaning brush makes the bottles easy to clean and re-use. I like this set best for packing my more expensive skincare serums and creams in the small jars that have a scooper to use.

Pros : A variety of types of containers

Cons : The toiletry case the bottles come in isn't the best quality.

clear travel toiletry bottles

The Kitsch Ultimate travel set includes leakproof holders that are compact and lightweight enough to pack in a purse or tote bag . In addition to three flat pouches, this set also comes with two pump bottles, two mini jars, one mini funnel, one mini spatula, and one mini pipette. This set is best for a longer trip—say, a European vacation or a cross-country road trip —as you can store a lot more shampoo, conditioner, and lotions in the pouches without going over any TSA limits (plus, they'll get lighter as you use them).

Pros : The flat pouches are easy to pack and take up less room in a Dopp kit than bulkier bottles.

Cons : The pouches are a little bit harder to refill than bottles with a wide opening.

clear travel toiletry bottles

If you're packing toiletries for your entire family , this 21-pack of travel bottles has you covered. This package comes with four silicone bottles, four cream jars, four toothbrush covers, two spray bottles, two pump bottles, two trowels, a funnel, and labels to keep everything straight. Whether it's a trip to Disney World or multi-generational cruise , this set makes packing for the whole family easy.

Pros : These come with toothbrush covers–a nice travel accessory that none of the other options on our list offers.

Cons : Not ideal for weekend trips or light packers.

The Very Best Toiletry Bottles

To keep your travel-size liquids organized — without leaking..

Surrendering your favorite moisturizer at airport security is no way to begin a vacation. That’s where refillable toiletry bottles come in — not only are they under the TSA-approved 3.5 ounces, they’re leakproof with secure lids you can use over and over. Of course, not all toiletry bottles are created equal, and if you’ve ever had a shampoo explosion in your carry-on thanks to a flimsy lid, you might be cautious. ( There are always minis , but when you already own full-size versions of your toiletries, that added cost feels redundant.) To find the best toiletry bottles for every kind of traveler, I spoke to frequent fliers and travel experts about the toiletry bottles that won’t lead to travel disasters, then tested out those recommendations for myself alongside my fellow Strategist staffers. While you’re here, I’ve also written guides to the best carry-on luggage and men’s Dopp kits .

Update on August 23, 2024:  Updated prices and checked stock for all products.

What we’re looking for

Number of bottles.

I’ve made a clear note beneath each set of toiletry bottles, as the number of bottles included is different for each product on this list. The higher the number of bottles in a kit means more storage space but also a higher variety of bottle types, too. For example, if you’re someone with a complex skin-care routine , you’ll want a bigger kit with tubs, pump-top bottles, and classic bottles to house all your lotions and sprays. If you’re someone who packs lighter, a smaller kit should be more than enough.

Accessories

They’re designed to keep things clean , but sometimes decanting your products into toiletry bottles can get pretty messy. Luckily, lots of kits come with accessories to make the whole process a little simpler, from funnels for divvying up liquids to spatulas for scooping face cream from one bottle to another (and brushes for keeping your bottles clean). To keep things organized, some kits also come with a transparent bag to keep all of your bottles in one place (and save you from having to squeeze them into a flimsy plastic bag at security).

Maximum capacity

The size of the bottle you’ll want will depend on what you plan to decant into it and how long you’ll be traveling. I’ve included the maximum fluid capacity of each bottle (or of the biggest bottle in each set) so you know how big you can go.

Best toiletry bottles overall

Teapile Travel-Bottle Set

Number of bottles : 17 | Accessories: Funnel, spatula, cleaning brush, plastic bag | Maximum capacity: Three ounces

This comprehensive travel-bottle set includes two 3-ounce silicone bottles, two 2-ounce silicone bottles, two 25-millimeter pump-top bottles, four plastic tubs, two toothbrush covers, a funnel, two spatulas, and a cleaning brush , all inside a transparent plastic case. My fellow Strategist writer Rachael Griffiths has taken it on 11 flights so far with great success. Inside the larger bottles, she’ll squeeze shampoo and conditioner ; cleanser and moisturizer goes inside the smaller bottles. The tubs are for a little smidgen of eye cream , she says, “and I’ll also pour some setting spray into the spray-pump bottles if I’m planning a big night out.” The caps screw on tight and have been consistently leak-free, and she likes how the bottles are made of a clear plastic, so you can easily see how much product you’ve gone through on your trip (and how much you’ve got left to last you). The set also comes recommended by frequent travelers like Simify director Mac Steer and River North Communication CEO Kelly Ferraro, who made the investment after tragically surrendering several luxury face creams to security and hasn’t looked back.

Best (less expensive) toiletry bottles

Kitsch Ultimate Travel 11-Piece Set

Number of bottles: 11 | Accessories: Funnel, stopper, spatula | Maximum capacity: 3.04 ounces

I like the price point of these bottles (the 11-piece kit is regularly on sale for less than $10) and that they’re dishwasher-safe. Brittany Allyn, the blogger behind Thirty Waves who documents her travels on TikTok, was initially drawn to them for aesthetic reasons but has found that they’re also “versatile for all my products: shampoo, conditioner, favorite hair product, serum, spray, and three small containers for my other skin-care products.” The kit comes with a mix of pouches, traditional bottles, and capsule-esque mini-jars as well as a funnel, spatula, and pipette to help you fill them up.

Best classic toiletry bottles

Sea to Summit Traveling Light TPU Clear Zip Pouch With Bottles

Number of bottles: Six | Accessories: Plastic bag | Maximum capacity: Three ounces

I am consistently impressed by Sea to Summit’s travel and outdoor products , which are typically more durable and cleverly designed than those of competing brands. So I wasn’t surprised when Andres Zuleta, the founder of Boutique Japan , recommended them. “I used to use the ones you can get anywhere, at Duane Reade or Target — like, the ones that are colorful and kind of squishy and have a flip-top lid,” Zuleta says. “Honestly, I had problems with those every time. One of them would always leak.” He hasn’t experienced any of that with Sea to Summit bottles. Zuleta describes them as mini Nalgene water bottles because of their tough exterior. “They are airtight,” he adds. “I’ve been using them for two years now and never had an issue.” The pack comes with three three-ounce bottles and three 1.3-ounce bottles, which Zuleta says is plenty. He fills his with hand sanitizer , lotion , jojoba oil, and shower gel and says he always comes home with his bottles at least partially full. He’s a fan of the actual bag it comes with, too. Instead of plastic, it’s made from TPU, a durable, abrasion-resistant material that is a reusable alternative to single-use plastic bags, according to the brand. It’s roomy enough that, in addition to the bottles, Zuleta can fit in some extras, such as his Malin+Goetz deodorant and a travel toothbrush.

Best flat-pack toiletry bottles

Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles — Package of 3

Number of bottles: Three | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: Three ounces

Matador is another travel and outdoor brand whose new products I am always eager to try — its design team clearly thinks outside the box. Unlike most toiletry bottles, these leakproof nylon packs decrease in size as you use them, freeing up bag space for items you may acquire on your trip. Each one holds three ounces, so they’re compliant with TSA requirements. When I asked travel blogger Jessica Ufuoma about good gifts for frequent fliers , she especially recommended these because they look rather sleek and minimalist in addition to functioning well.

Best wide-mouth toiletry bottles

Nalgene Travel Kit, Small, Clear

Number of bottles: Six | Accessories: Carry bag | Maximum capacity: 2 ounces

If you’ve ever used one of Nalgene’s water bottles , you know they’re made from lightweight BPA-free plastic and have reliable screw-top caps that can stand up to decades of use. Those same design principles apply to the brand’s toiletry bottles, says Geoff Grisdale of One Bag Travels : “They’re very sturdy and leakproof.” Plus, the wide openings of the bottles make cleaning and decanting a breeze. Grisdale adds that you can buy these as a set (including a handy clear carry case) or individually, which is useful if you already have a few reusable travel containers in your arsenal. I like the color-coded caps, too.

Best silicone toiletry bottles

Humangear GoToob+ Large Squeeze Bottle — 3.4 Fluid Ounces — Package of 3

Number of bottles: Three | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: 3.4 ounces

Even if you’re not flying, reusable toiletry bottles can come in handy. Emily Mandagie, one-half of the couple behind the outdoors-focused website the Mandagies , says she takes these Humangear squeeze bottles on nearly every overnight adventure and recommends them for backpacking and road trips. These silicone bottles come in 3.4-ounce, 2.5-ounce, and 1.7-ounce sizes, and Mandagie loves how versatile they are. “For example, on road trips we will fill them with things like face wash and dish soap, but on backpacking trips we’ll fill them with sunscreen or even condiments for a meal,” she says. They are FDA food safe, she says, so there’s no worries there, and they are also dishwasher safe, making them easy to clean. One trip’s sriracha container can be another’s shampoo bottle.

Best modular travel containers

The Capsule The Flex Medium

Number of bottles: Sold individually or in sets of 6 and 12 | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: 0.56 ounces

Cadence makes stylish, multiuse magnetic containers from ocean-bound plastic. Sold individually, they’re designed to cling to each other, creating what the company calls a “honeycomb.” The lids, each of which gets its own custom label, are also magnetic, which makes them more airtight. I was skeptical about these because of their high price point, but I’m sold after taking them on a couple of international trips last year. First of all, it is way easier to decant product into tubs as opposed to squeezable bottles — no more last-minute messing around with funnels before a flight. The capsules are also incredibly solid in their construction, to the extent that I feel comfortable tossing them into my backpack or suitcase wherever they fit, rather than storing them a separate leakproof toiletry bag that takes up valuable space. Briona Lamback, the founder of Buoyant, adds that they’re small but mighty: “I usually get enough cleanser and moisturizer for a sixish-day trip in each.”

Best (less expensive) modular travel containers

Muji Polyethylene Petite Tube

Number of bottles: Sold individually | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: 2.2 ounces (large petite tube)

If you want to build your own set of refillable toiletry bottles on a budget and can live without cute colors and magnets, I’m also a fan of Muji’s simple plastic travel containers and have used them on many trips. While I’d probably store them in a waterproof toiletry bag just to be safe, I’ve never had leakage issues with these, and there are a number of size options for different lengths of trips. Just note that they don’t come with any accessories for decanting, which can make transferring any particularly gloopy shampoos and conditioners a bit tricky.

Amanda Finn

Written by Amanda Finn

I’ll be the first to admit that I love collecting hotel toiletries. They’re certainly more economical to rely on than buying small bottles of shampoos and soaps before a trip. But many hotels are doing away with single-use toiletries and replacing them with larger bottles in showers instead or those recyclable sachets, which make me feel like I’m squeezing ketchup into my hair.

Having a plethora of body wash toiletry bottles around from every hotel you’ve ever been to is convenient, but it’s more environmentally friendly not to rely on them at all. I switched to reusable bottles for travel years ago, especially for things like sunscreen that I can buy in large bottles, and I’ll never go back.

Woman using toiletry bag

Packing toiletries this way might take a few more minutes than tossing mini containers into your toiletry bag, but the Earth will thank you. Refillable bottles make it easier to pack your favorite shampoo and conditioner rather than settling for whatever TSA-compliant travel-sized products you can find in Target’s travel beauty bins.

Our Top Travel Bottles by Category

Best travel bottles for toiletries.

Every traveler will have their definition of the best toiletry bottles. For carry-on-only travelers, fitting all your stuff in a quart-sized bag for TSA is paramount. If you’re checking a bag, don’t stress about the size – you can pack as many bottles of any size as you can.

This buying guide will save you from the extra cost of buying smaller bath or beauty products, embrace the space-saving power of travel containers, and help you meet TSA guidelines .

1. Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles

Three Matador FlatPak bottles

One of the problems with packing reusable silicone travel bottles is that, once they’re empty, they still take up the same amount of room. That’s why FlatPak bottles from Matador are our top pick for the best travel toiletry bottles.

These flat-pack bottles can store all the liquids in an easy-to-fold bottle, space-saving. Silicone material bottles might be more durable, but plastic ones are way more space-saving for your shampoo, conditioner, or shower gel. When you’ve used up your product, the whole bottle flattens making more room in your travel bag.

I’ve been using Flatpak bottles for shampoo and conditioner for years, and their soap case is incredible. It fits small bar-sized soaps and magically dries them out overnight, so you don’t have to deal with slimy soap the next time you want to scrub up.

Please keep in mind that these are not rated as food safe. While they look like applesauce pouches, please do not use them as such. They’re meant for things like shampoo or conditioner, not food products.

  • Leakproof cap
  • Packs flat when empty
  • Easy to fill
  • Less durable than silicone travel bottles
  • Harder to clean

2. These Amazon Silicone Bottles

Liyuabu Colorful Travel bottles

If you’re not one to travel with your entire bathroom worth of product, you may need a small set of While I own a full travel bottle set with mini containers, I mostly use these reusable silicone bottles I picked up a few years ago.

A four-pack of multi-colored silicone travel bottles makes it easy to remember which contains which product, forgoing the need for labels. They’re ideal for carry-on travelers too as they’re under 3.4 oz for TSA-friendly travel. Plus, silicone containers are easy to clean either by hand with warm water or in the top rack of your dishwasher.

I use these kinds of containers when traveling with my partner. That way if we end up sharing a bag for toiletries, we can keep our products separate.

What can be tricky though is getting product out of the very bottom corners of the containers, even after the dishwasher sometimes there are hardened or still liquid bits of product still stuck there. Shower gel mixed with oily sunscreen isn’t a great discovery.

  • Large mouth for easy filling, no funnel needed!
  • Leak proof design
  • Drip-free dispenser valve
  • Carry-on sized
  • Food-grade silicone
  • Not see through
  • Caps can be difficult to clean
  • Can’t easily label them

3. GoToob Clear Silicone Squeeze Bottles

Three GoToob toiletry bottles

Clear silicone travel bottles like GoToob aren’t as cute as their colorful counterparts, but they’re no less helpful. In fact, these refillable bottles are probably better because you can tell from a glance if they’re running low — or even if you’re about to use lotion instead of shampoo.

Humangear makes all sorts of sizes, and they’re one of the most durable brands on the market. I’ve had a set of GoToob bottles for three or four years now and they’ve never leaked in carry-on or checked luggage.

I prefer clear silicone travel bottles for things like face wash or sunscreen because I’ve used the wrong product mistakenly more than once. It’ll only take one time to use slimy sunscreen in the shower to opt for clear silicone every time.

You may also want to keep clear containers designated for the same product each time you use it. Especially for thick products like conditioner or sunscreen, for whatever reason, I can never get them fully out of the bottles. Even after multiple washes, the bottles seem to be stained from those products. Also, remember that these are dishwasher-safe in the top rack. The caps can be tossed into the silverware basket, too!

  • BPA free silicone
  • Clear, see-through material
  • Leak-proof travel accessory
  • No drip valve on each bottle
  • Perfect size for carry-on baggage
  • Can be hard to fill
  • Bottles may become cloudy over time
  • Can be hard to fully clean

4. Plastic Travel Bottles

Six plastic travel containers with product

Definitely not as popular as silicone travel bottles, plastic bottles are still a great standby. Because they aren’t made of silicone material, these containers stand up better in a shower or bathtub, but that also makes them harder to squeeze — especially with wet hands.

Full disclosure, because of squeezing my set of these containers is permanently bent in the middle. That happened after only my first trip using them. While they still work just fine, it’s clear that they aren’t as durable since the plastic bent so severely after only a week of use. You’ll probably be better off reusing single-use product containers instead.

One of the benefits of these plastic bottles is that you can find them in stores pretty much anywhere. Dollar Tree or Dollar General both carry bottles like this, as does Target or Walmart. They’re much cheaper than GoToob bottles or Flatpak sets, so if you’re hard on your stuff or don’t travel often, they’re a no-brainer.

What is great about these kinds of toiletry bottles is that you can use sticky labels on them. Though the labels might not survive washing the containers after travel, being able to label them will help differentiate between hand sanitizer and other liquids. Labels are also handy for folks with sensitive skin who need a variety of products for their face or body.

  • Easy to use with adjustable labels
  • Less prone to fall over because of rigid plastic
  • Easy to clean
  • Cheap and easy to find in stores
  • Can be hard to squeeze
  • May deform with prolonged use

5. Suction Cup Toiletry Bottles

Five silicone suction cup travel containers

One of the less talked about varieties of toiletry bottles is the kind with suction cups for easy shower access. At some chic, luxury, or boutique hotels, I’ve found the shower is less likely to have any shelving or places to keep your toiletries. These high-quality silicone bottles have suction cups to keep your products within reach at all times.

Somehow, these suction cup toiletry bottles haven’t become the best travel toiletry bottles out there. Sure, they will they save your back from having to bend down to grab your products from the shower floor. If they stick well, these containers will also elevate your bathing experience, but suction cups can be more trouble than they’re worth, depending on the shower wall material.

One downside is that the suction cup can become unstuck depending on the kind of wall material you’re attaching it to. Based on my personal use of them, I’ve found that they stick well to tile and plastic shower walls, but I’ve had them fall because the tile was textured.

  • Bottles are BPA free
  • Leak proof caps
  • Stick your products to the wall within reach
  • Easy to clean, top-rack dishwasher safe
  • The suction cup may detach mid-shower
  • The suction cup may deform if put through the dishwasher

6. Travel-friendly Vacuum Bottles

Three vacuum seal jar containers

For folks who need their (probably expensive) face creams or products to stay in top shape, vacuum pump bottles are a great accessory. These containers keep oxygen out of your product to keep them from drying out so you can continue using these containers long after your trip without fear your product has dried out.

Another great feature is that the bottles allow for one-handed dispensing. These vacuum pump bottles are perfect for things like face creams, emulsions, or even liquid masks. This set includes three containers of various sizes to differentiate products and pack only what you need.

These will not emulsify your product like other home-sized dispensers, so you must lather the products up between your hands. Even so, these containers are the perfect way to keep your more delicate products safe far and wide.

  • Keeps air out of the product
  • Takes up more room
  • Can be difficult to clean

7. Character Silicone Travel Bottles…. for “kids”

Bunny bottles in a basket

Traveling with kiddos can be hard enough without fights during bathtime. Luckily this set of adorable silicone travel bottles can help! With two bear-shaped and two bunny-shaped, BPA-free bottles, bathtime can be fun.

The four containers are leakproof and bound to bring a smile to even the grumpiest little traveler’s face. Plus, between the shapes and colors, you can easily remember what products are in each. That gives you more bandwidth to enjoy quality time with your children.

You can also use these bottles yourself – let’s be real, I picked them up because they’re just too cute. There’s nothing wrong with some travel-friendly whimsy! Plus, you’ll be packing more environmentally friendly by using these eco-friendly containers.

  • Super cute design
  • Harder to pack because of ear shapes

8. Food-safe Travel Pouches for Liquids or Purees

Two haakaa food pouches

Everyone talks about toiletry bottles for shampoos and soaps, but what about travel bottles for snacks? If you’ve packed well enough to have some extra space, you may also want to bring food pouches for your flight. These haakaa food pouches are perfect for little hands, hold up to 4 oz of food, and are heat/freezer resistant.

The flexible material of these pouches allows for little hands to squeeze them without fear of popping. That means they’re also more durable for being placed in travel coolers or backpacks.

Although they’re pouch-shaped, they have a flat bottom. That means they can stand up for easy storage or keeping on a table or flat surface in between on-the-go snack breaks. And since they’re slightly translucent you can tell when the pouches need a refill.

Do note, though, that they are half an ounce bigger than the TSA size if you’re bringing them through security. Your experience may vary, but if you’re worried about these getting confiscated, perhaps they’re best for road trips .

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Microwave, freezer, and fridge safe
  • Durable for little hands to squeeze
  • Might be difficult to fully clean
  • Only comes in a two pack
  • A little oversized for TSA regulations

Best Complete Travel Container Sets

9. this comprehensive toiletry set.

Multicolored toiletry container kit

If these are your first travel toiletry bottles, a full set of products is a great way to know what you actually need when you travel. A 16-pack from Morfone includes all of the kinds of containers you should need for a long or short trip.

This TSA-friendly set includes compact-size bottles for shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel as well as mini containers for things like hair gel or lotion. Plus it comes with a cleaning brush, small funnel, mini spatula for lotions or creams, and even spray bottles for fragrances (or even Poo-Pourri — I’m not here to judge). The accessories make this an instant win for me – even if I don’t use the bottles as much as my Flatpak or Silicone ones, the spatula and funnel get a ton of use.

What I like best about sets like this is that if I decide I don’t need certain containers, I can bring along products I normally wouldn’t travel with. You also may not think to order things like small containers for lotions or face creams until you use one for the first time thanks to a set like this one.

  • Has a variety of container sizes
  • Comes in a TSA-approved bag
  • Comes with a cleaning tool
  • Leakproof bottles
  • Doesn’t have clear bottles
  • Bottle types don’t suit all travelers

10. OXO Mini Food Travel Containers

Three teal and clear OXO travel containers

Whether you’re using these OXO mini food containers for baby food, solid snacks, or beauty products, your stuff will be safe. These containers hold up to 2 oz which makes them TSA carry-on compliant for carry-on travelers.

The twist-on lids make the OXO containers easy to open for little hands, too which is great for little ones trying to get their snack on. Although they’re easy to open, the containers are still spill-proof when closed all the way.

These containers are see-through, dishwasher safe, and come in a three-pack. Plus, since they have hard plastic lids, they’re also easy to label. On the go, these are also easy to clean by hand at a sink as needed, so you don’t have to worry about getting old food or product stuck in the bottom of them.

  • Clear material to see what’s in them
  • TSA size compliant for liquids
  • Won’t hold a lot of product

11. Termichy Travel Baby Food Containers

Four baby food containers

Having little ones adds a few extra layers to your travel plans. That may mean getting your liquid or pureed food items on the plane with you in a food-safe container option. Luckily they aren’t subject to the 3.4 oz TSA liquids rule if you’re genuinely carrying baby food:

Formula, breast milk, toddler drinks, and baby/toddler food (to include puree pouches) in quantities greater than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters are allowed in carry-on baggage and do not need to fit within a quart-sized bag TSA.gov

One way to pack them for easy travel is with food-grade silicone containers. These containers are leakproof, easy to store, and clean. Plus, they’re easy to feed little ones using a tray table or not.

Small containers like these are stackable, making them easy to pack in a carry-on cooler bag or even a backpack or diaper bag. The lids stay securely fastened, so you don’t have to worry about randomly popping open.

  • Food grade silicone
  • Dishwasher safe on the top rack
  • They may pop open if the bag they’re in is too full or pressed on
  • Lids can warp if put in the bottom dishwasher rack

12. Travel-size Perfume Atomizers

Four perfume atomizers

For perfume wearers, collecting those mini bottles from places like Sephora is one way to have travel-sized fragrances. However, you may have a favorite scent that you want to bring instead or in addition to pieces from your vast sample bottle collection.

That’s where a portable perfume atomizer comes in handy. These atomizers are made from durable aluminum, have a peek-through window to show how much product is left, and hold 5 ml of liquid. With a four-pack in multiple colors, you can easily keep different fragrances separate and have plenty of fragrances for your whole trip.

Generally, a 5 ml bottle of perfume will last 50-75 sprays . That should keep you covered for two or three weeks with a single perfume atomizer. You could easily get away with just a single one of these atomizers for anything less than a multi-month European backpacking excursion.

  • Durable aluminum bottle
  • See how much product is in the bottle
  • Perfect size even for small purses
  • Harder to clean than plastic spray bottles

13. Cadence Capsules

Six Cadence Capsules in multiple colors

For products like lotions, face creams, and other things that come in jars or containers, bringing them to travel can be a pain. That’s why I love Cadence Capsules ! Not only are they easier to clean, but they’re also more durable than other travel containers.

With multiple colors in your buildable six or twelve-pack , you can easily keep your products separate. Plus, since the capsules are hard, recycled plastic, you could also label them if that’s easier.

What’s great about these too is that you don’t have to just use them for liquid or cream products. They’re sturdy enough for other small items like mints, medications, or even earrings.

  • Multipurpose
  • Can come with labeled lids
  • More eco-friendly with recycled material
  • May need multiple capsules for heavily-used product

14. luxe tumi travel kit.

A black TUMI travel bag

For more luxe travelers, particularly those who check bags, a TUMI travel kit is an excellent addition to your travel collection. A sturdy bag with multiple compartments, it will keep all of your toiletry products organized whether you’re on the go or doing a staycation.

The TUMI is made from quality leather. So not only is it sturdy for years of use, but it’s also gorgeous. So long as you take good care of the leather, this bag will serve you for years and years.

Although the top compartment has a clear window, this bag will not qualify for the TSA clear bag requirement for carry-on luggage. However, if you want to organize non-liquid toiletries in this bag or anything else for carry-on travel, the TUMI is the perfect accessory organizer too.

  • High-quality leather exterior
  • Three zipper compartments for organization
  • Plenty of space for all toiletries
  • Not TSA liquids compliant for carry-on travel

15. TSA-approved Clear Travel Toiletry Bag

Four clear toiletry bags

Especially for families with multiple travelers , getting TSA-approved clear toiletry bags can be a hassle. Many of them are identical. However, you can buy sets of bags that feature different colors to keep everyone’s bags separate without investigating what’s inside them.

Sets of travel bottles will frequently include a travel bag, but they aren’t always the best quality. I’ve broken zippers on several of them which is not ideal when you’re on a trip. These bags have enough space to easily fit multiple bottles of different sizes as well as other products like spray bottles, or even small jars.

Just like with suitcases, be very careful that you aren’t over-stuffing these bags. Even ones that are made to be durable will pop open if they are packed too full. One way to avoid containers exploding is to pack them safely in a bag that won’t explode open all over your week’s worth of clothes.

  • See-through for easy product access
  • Just the right size for TSA
  • Can fit many travel bottles
  • Easy to clean with warm water
  • Zippers and zipper pulls break easily

16. Hanging Toiletry Bag

Teal Sea to Summit hanging travel bag

For checked baggage passengers, hanging toiletry cases like the ones made by Sea to Summit will be your best friend. These cases can hold all your travel bottles, keep your products off the counter and make it easier to access your travel containers.

Plus these hanging bags are easy to clean and a fabulous way to keep all of your containers organized. Frequent fliers know how troublesome it can be to keep track of all your products in a traditional travel bag. They’re also just way cuter than other bags, I adore mine though I only bring them during train or road trip travel.

Some travelers online say that you can use these instead of TSA-approved bags or that they’ve gotten away with them at airport security. But it’s not worth the risk of throwing out any products at security, it’s a terrible way to start a trip.

  • Excellent organizational tool
  • Plenty of room for all travel-sized bottles
  • Not TSA-approved sizing
  • Won’t work for carry on only travel (unless you don’t pack liquids in it)

17. Sea to Summit Upright Toiletry Bag

Teal Sea to Summit toiletry bag

A more traditional toiletry and makeup bag, these Sea to Summit bags allow for your products to stay organized and sit upright. The bag is made from a flexible Ultra-Sil fabric that allows daily use and is easy to clean.

These opaque bags will not work for a carry-on-only toiletry bag because TSA can’t see through it, though it works fine for checked bag travelers. What’s nice about these though is that if you pack them to sit flat in your suitcase while your bag is upright, all of your stuff stays nice and organized.

You can also fit full-sized makeup products in this easily if you aren’t concerned about the 3.4 oz rule. Not having to dig through a smaller bag for what you’re looking for after a long travel day is always good.

  • Keeps products organized
  • Easy to clean fabric
  • Lots of room for all toiletries
  • Doesn’t work for carry-on travelers because the TSA can’t see through it

What toiletry bottles are TSA approved?

TSA-approved travel bottles must be under the 3.4 oz liquid restriction. Many travel bottle sets will say they’re TSA-approved, and you’ll have to trust their word since they’re unmarked toiletry bottles.

Even so, I have never encountered an issue with the TSA and my reusable containers. My refillable containers have been all over the world with me and haven’t gotten a second glance in the United States , Europe , or Asia . You should be good to go if your travel bottles are the size of a 3.4 oz container or smaller.

Don’t forget that liquid toiletries must be able to fit in a clear, quart-sized baggie. So keep that in mind for your next trip!

How strict is the TSA regarding liquid toiletries?

Despite the well-defined rules for TSA liquid limits, I’ve had different experiences at many airports. My home airport doesn’t care about the clear bag rule, but I had to unpack things and grab a Ziplock in Denver. If you’re trying to skirt some rules, be prepared to toss products that are a little oversized or throw a plastic bag in your luggage just in case.

What material is best for travel bottles?

Silicone is the most popular material for travel containers because of its durability and ease of cleaning. They’re also easier to squeeze than plastic ones.

Travel + Leisure / Alli Waataja

As a professional travel writer and gear tester, I’m always toting around the newest suitcases and packing accouterments . But in my naive younger years, there were times that I packed my makeup or beauty products in flimsy plastic bags.

I shudder to recall how I once fished out a beat-up gallon size Ziploc from my carry-on in the TSA line, a mess of tangled toiletries that was all too susceptible to leaks and wasted product. Now, I know better and have invested in trusty clear makeup bags when I travel so there’s no hassle of struggling to find or remove personal items for airport security.

The best clear makeup bags range from simple pouches to highly-stylized train cases and dopp-style kits. They’re also easy to clean and come with enough organizational features to keep contents secure and free from damage. Choose from the smallest pocket-sized TSA-approved bags for carry-ons , or large containers designed to transport your entire AM to PM routines — here are our favorites.

Best Overall

Stoney clover lane travel pouch.

In addition to the classic clear option, there are lots of bright and cheery colors to choose from.

There is just one main compartment.

Functional, stylish, and affordable, this well-made transparent pouch checks all our boxes for a great clear makeup bag for travel. We love that it comes with sleek gold hardware and a colored nylon trim that is available in a rainbow of 14 eye-catching colors. The bright neon choices, with names like avocado, banana, flamingo, and bubblegum, are especially cheerful. You can also opt to customize the bag further by adding glitter patches, letters, and icons to make the bag a little more you.

The pouch itself isn’t just pretty — it’s practical, too. The lightweight bag can be packed in your carry-on, suitcase, purse, or other personal item. Best of all, it’s TSA-approved, so you can simply pull it out in the airport security line without having to unpack. While small enough to bring onboard, it can still fit your daily makeup routine, beauty essentials, accessories, or other necessary toiletries .

Best Hanging

Relavel hanging toiletry bag.

The kit folds up nicely into one compact bag, or you can detach the TSA-approved bottom portion for lighter travels.

The compartments are not versatile enough to fit full-size products.

While spreading toiletries and makeup out over a wide open vanity is always a desirable setup, some accommodations just won’t allow for it. Maybe you’re staying in tight quarters at a city hotel or sharing an Airbnb where counter real estate might be limited. In those instances, a hanging makeup bag is the way to go. Simply open it up, hang it on a door or hook, and everything you need will be available at your fingertips.

We love how adaptable this portable clear bag is. It has a TSA-approved detachable quart size compartment, along with several separate portions with both zippered mesh and clear pockets. One of which can be removed entirely so you can use what you need and remove what you don’t. The plastic is waterproof, durable, easy to wipe clean, and comes with a hanging metal hook, as well as a carrying strap.

Best With Bottles

Sonia kashuk tsa travel makeup bag kit.

This kit includes a clear bag that comes with travel size bottles and a funnel from a trusted beauty brand, all for less than $10.

The included funnel may not fit in the bag when the bottles are placed inside.

We love this option from makeup guru Sonia Kashuk for when you want to bring your favorite shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, or other go-to beauty products without lugging the full-size bottle or having to check your bag. In those instances, choose this clear bag that comes with three refillable 2-ounce toiletry bottles , a refillable 2-ounce jar, and a spray bottle. The kit also includes a funnel for mess-free pouring.

The clear plastic bag will keep everything identifiable and is TSA-compliant, so you can simply place the pouch on the security conveyor belt rather than having to remove items one by one.

The Details: PVC plastic | 7.5 x 6 x 1.5 inches

Best Budget

Buminee clear pouch.

It comes in fun colors and costs a fraction of the price of similar bags.

Some past reviewers cite the plastic as flimsy.

This simple pouch comes in eight bright color options (including basic clear), is TSA-approved to travel with liquids, makeup, and beauty products under 3 ounces, and ranges in price from a mere $5 to $6 depending on the color selected. Or, you can pay a few dollars more for a multi-pack of three and still pay less than you would for most other singular bags on this list.

The zippered closure opens from side to side and comes with plastic pulls that match the lining for a cohesive look. We also like how this bag could easily be used for other purposes, such as transporting medications, jewelry, first aid kits, or small valuables.

The Details: Plastic | 6.6 x 2.3 x 4.7 inches

Best Splurge

Calpak medium clear cosmetic case.

With several compartments and an array of colors, this bag can suit all needs and style preferences.

If you want the option to carry full-size products, you’ll have to upgrade to the large size which costs $10 more.

While also available in small or large, this medium-size transparent case from Calpak is a favorite as it will fit inside carry-on or checked bags with ease. We also love that it comes with a slew of clever design features, including a clamshell style closure, and several interior compartments to keep items organized.

While the majority of the exterior is clear, the trim comes in 19 colors. Choose from subtle shades like as black, mauve, stone, or caramel, or go for punchy hues like dragon fruit, emerald, apple green, and an assortment of metallics. Other thoughtful touches include color-coordinated zippers, a water-resistant shell, and dual lay-flat top handles.

The Details: Polyurethane and PVC | 9.75 x 7.75 x 5 inches

Xxkq Clear Makeup Bag

The wide leather trim, gold zippers, and transparent panels gives it a polished look.

The wider trim means the bag is not totally transparent.

If you want the functionality of a clear bag but yearn for more style than a simple swipe of color along the edges, you may prefer this case. The exterior is crafted from smooth leather with reinforced stitching, gold zippers, and is available in 17 shades ranging from soothing neutral tones to vibrant bursts of color.

Unlike other bags, the leather portion takes up a bigger footprint while leaving a large PVC clear plastic panel on both sides so you can easily view contents. The plastic is 10 millimeters thick, so it’s durable and sturdy enough to hold up to travel and is water-resistant, too.

The size of the bag is TSA-approved and the top carry handle also makes this viable as a small purse.

The Details: PU leather and plastic | 8.52 x 6.38 x 2.87 inches

Best Customizable

Mark & graham clear pouch.

It comes in two sizes and seven colors for plenty of variety.

Monogrammed items cost extra and are final sale.

Small essentials stay organized, visually accessible, and chic in this top zippered tote that we’d also recommend as a thoughtful personalized gift . It comes with a vegan leather trim that is available in seven colors ranging from classic black or navy to a bright poppy red, pastels such as sky blue and rose, or neutrals like flax and camel.

You can choose either the small or large size option, and make it your own by opting for a shadow printed sticker decal monogram that is available for a small added fee. Use it to pack makeup or toiletries, or carry it around as a compact clutch. The options are endless.

The Details: TPU plastic | 8 x 5.5 x 3.25 inches (small), 10 x 3.5 x 7 inches (large)

Best Organization

Tartan + twine clear sage-trimmed weekender.

This bag has multiple compartments to separate makeup, beauty, and toiletry products.

The compartments are not quite as deep as some other options on this list.

Similar in specs and style to our top splurge pick from Calpak, but $30 less, this well-designed dupe opens clamshell style to reveal two compartments, plus an additional interior zipped pocket that will keep everything separate, neat, and organized.

Made from sturdy and durable plastic and vegan leather, we love the sophisticated sage green detail trim with matching tassel pulls and gold-toned hardware, which feels more elevated than most bags. There are also two top-carry handles so you can grab it easily or hang it up at your hotel.

The Details: Plastic and vegan leather | 10 x 3 x 7.5 inches

Mark and Graham Clear Top Handle Travel Cosmetic Case

The train case style stands out nicely in a sea of pouches.

Currently, the trim only comes in one color: navy.

With a colored vegan leather top handle and a clear exterior, this bag resembles more of a train case than a typical transparent pouch.

The roomy, generous interior is large enough to hold most products, and the dual zipper closure ensures everything will stay securely contained. The navy trim feels classy and adds personality, but the majority of the bag is otherwise fully clear. We also love Mark and Graham’s signature option of adding a vinyl decal monogram for a fun touch that can make it uniquely yours.

The Details: Vegan leather and TPU plastic | 10 x 5.5 x 6 inches

Lyroo Small Makeup Bag

The price includes two makeup bags with either black or white trim.

Some larger items might not fit inside.

When saving space is of the utmost importance, this diminutive bag fits inside any suitcase, purse, backpack, and even large pockets for quick trips or daily commutes. The transparent design is strong, waterproof, and comes with a classic black or white trim.

We also like how the large zipper rings are easy to grab and pull, and that these pouches could store other valuables like jewelry, charging cords, coins and cash, or a small notebook.

The Details: TPU plastic | 4.72 x 4.33 x 1.77 inches

Tips for Buying Clear Makeup Bags for Travel

Prioritize durability.

Don’t be like young me and travel with a Ziploc in place of an actual bag. Instead, choose a clear bag that is built to last, resistant to punctures, and has a reliable zipper closure to prevent spills (or alternatively, secure enough to hold any leaks, should they happen). A good clear makeup bag is often crafted from plastic but should be thicker and less flimsy than a Ziploc.

Pick the right size for your needs

Before purchasing a clear makeup bag, be sure that it will fit the items you want to pack. For example, if the bag is TSA-compliant, it will only fit products that are 3.4 ounces and under. If you want to pack your favorite full-size shampoo and conditioner, you’ll need a larger bag that will then need to be checked by the airline.

Likewise, if you want to bring your makeup case in your carry-on, make sure your desired products are small enough to fit inside or that you have accompanying travel size mini bottles to transfer larger liquids.

Consider organization

Any makeup bag can quickly become a mess when overpacked. If you plan on bringing a hefty amount of makeup products, look for bags with several compartments or interior pockets so you can separate certain items. For example, you may want to place makeup brushes in a different portion than liquids to protect against possible spills. However, to remain approved for TSA, all interior sections will need to be clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Technically, you can travel with whatever style of bag you like. However, if you plan to fly with liquids in your bag, and especially if you want to bring those essentials onto an airplane in your personal item or carry-on, you’ll have to comply with TSA regulations.

Per TSA rules , any liquids, gels, or aerosols that are packed inside a carry-on must follow the 3-1-1 rule — that means each item must be 3.4 ounces or less, transported in one quart size, clear plastic bag with a zip top opening, and all liquids must fit inside the bag. One such bag is permitted per passenger. Anything larger must be placed in a checked suitcase, aside from exceptions that are made for medications and food for infants.

The TSA does not further define rules around what they consider to be clear, so any bags with significant added trim or detailing may be subject to further inspection or denied as a vehicle to transport liquids.

It’s also important to note that these rules only pertain to liquids. If your makeup bags do not hold any, they are not held to the same screening guidelines.

As noted, the TSA-approved size is a quart bag with individual bottles or items that don’t exceed 3.4 ounces each. Additionally, it doesn’t matter if your 6-ounce bottle of face serum is half empty; if the bottle says anything larger than 3.4 ounces, TSA will either require that you place it in a checked bag, or confiscate it.

According to the TSA’s Ask TSA X account , a quart size bag should measure no more than 6 by 9 inches.

Most clear makeup bags are made from plastic. Unless otherwise specified, they should not be placed in the laundry or dishwasher or they could risk melting or damaging your appliances. The best way to clean them will be to remove all contents and wipe with a damp cloth or sponge, or rinse out by hand with some gentle soap and wipe it dry.

Top 14 Best Travel Bottles For Toiletries 2020 Review [New]

Probably the toughest element in each bag preparation is figuring out the toiletries. They occupy a lot of your precious luggage space. Furthermore, the majority of the normal size bottles aren’t leakproof. So, the possibilities to end up with a shower gel spilled all over your clothing are fairly significant.

Sea into Summit Travelling Light TPU Clear Zip Pouch with Bottles

The 3 3-ounce and 3 1.5-ounce bottles that constitute Sea to Summit’s Travelling Light collection are made from a plastic that provides a perfect compromise between sturdiness and squeezability. The semi-opaque layout offers you a good notion about what is inside, and just how much of it stays, while a translucent patch onto front of every bottle enables you to compose a particular tag.

The screw-top cap pretty much prevents escapes, but the very best aspect of this design lies beneath this cap. A detachable plastic insert at the mouth of the jar -the official expression, we found, is”orifice reducer”–turns it into a squeeze bottle. No additional design we discovered had this mix. If you would like to pour out the contents at once rather than squeezing them out bit by bit, you can get rid of this insert.

Although the explanation on Sea to Summit’s website is somewhat unclear, it ends up that just the carrying bag is made of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). The bottles are created from high-density polyethylene, aka HDPE, a generally used, food-safe substance found in a vast array of products, such as milk jugs, juice bottles, water pipes, and much more.

The feel of this jar is smooth, but not so easy it slips from wet hands. The cap twists off and on with ease–you may even be in a position to perform so one-handed if you are dexterous.

Ordinarily, these bottles arrive at the quantity of 3.5 Oz, which is 100ml, also the maximum it could go around 150ml. The dimensions of this jar also issue because when you’re packing closely, you might need bottles that may consume lesser distance only. Opt for the small-sized container which could suffice your shorter excursions and weekend getaways.

However, if you’re taking longer excursions and are traveling at the destination town, then you might require a bit that is somewhat extra-large. Therefore, search for the size charts before you purchase the bottle. Do not buy extra-sized or bulky bottles, including additional weight to your bag, which you might realize only when you’re close to the counter.

To add another layer of convenience to your packing and travels, think about completing your toiletry travel kit with a great toiletry bag for travel. Men might also want to find the best men’s toiletry bag to have all their toiletry essentials in one tidy place when traveling.

What’s the Material?

The sort of material is among the deciding variables to determine the best travel bottles for toiletries. It isn’t only due to the usefulness but also since it concerns your health. The majority of the place to buy travel toiletries are shatterproof plastic on top for those lids and caps. It can help to maintain the liquid securely, and the noise provides you with the affirmation which they’re closed completely.

Some containers are wholly made from plastic, which might not be flexible that you package them or keep them shut while traveling. You will take a dedicated area to maintain them. Nonetheless, these are inflexible plastic that can’t be squeezed, and it will become simple to wash these bottles.

The other kind of jar is popularly called “TSA-approved” bottles. These are normally made from multi-layer protection, plus they give more durability. Many people pick the place to buy travel toiletries of the kind since they’re generally provided using all the leak-proof system.

As you’re traveling, it’s essential to consider all of the elements as you obtain the bottle. You must always pick the jar that’s not poisonous for your health and also surroundings. Though they’re the smallest aspect of this traveling jar, caps and planters are significant, considering the jar is in movement occasionally. The objective is to keep the jar tightly closed and ensuring that are no escapes are messing around. There are a couple of final mechanics that could be helpful once you choose the travel jar. Additionally, a number of these jar makers ship the caps individually, and you may change them based on the traveling and so forth. The typical kinds are screw shirt, spray shirts, and other tops.

The most typical kind of lid, as you probably know, is the reverse tops. You can just turn it open and consume or use the liquid. This liquid comes oozing, also it can help you to control the circulation of liquid. But, because of excessive usage, this reverse tops might even break occasionally. Thus try to find the bottles which include additional other tops to be certain the final mechanism is functioning properly.

Additionally, one significant thing you need to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t fill out the flip-top travel jar up to its brim. Since when they’re filled, it is going to give rise to a vacuum at the upper layer, and because of stress, they pop out quite frequently.

Screw tops are famous for its creams and lotions, particularly. These kinds of shirts are a fantastic selection for the jar at which you are able to control the liquid until they get out. Additionally, the screw threads possess quite tiny spatulas which will aid in tackling the bottler simpler. In certain containers, it’s provided with all the pipette form construction, which lets in folding and occupying minimal space whilst packaging.

Bottles with spray shirts are among the smartest choices to the fluids which have an extremely volatile density. By way of instance, if you’re taking perfume or hair spray, then they may be the ideal companion. The shirts do not assist in the high-pressure environment. Additionally, it is suggested to not take compounds in the spray top bottle. Since while traveling when they’re pressed, it may squirt and begin responding with the materials enclosing.

What Exactly Do You Have to Remember While Buying Travel Bottles for Toiletries?

Pick only a quality place to buy the best travel bottles for toiletries. They need to be durable, notably made from leak-proof vinyl or TSA.

Start looking for the bottles which must see through a characteristic. Because as you go into the security terminals in the airport, then you do not need to describe the solutions. Additionally, when they are about to complete, you can always find it and refill if potential

Prefer to use TSA bottles for toothpaste, toothpaste sauces, and face lotion. Since they are non-reactive to any kind of chemical compound.

Always see if they’re eco-friendly bottles. As you’re traveling, some nations may remove specific kinds of substances from the safety counters.

I Spent a Small Fortune on Fancy Travel Containers and Regret Nothing

Brittney Ho

By Brittney Ho

Brittney Ho is a newsletters strategist. She has contributed to hundreds of newsletters, including one about getting chased by a wild turkey.

I’ll admit it: I’m a terrible packer. I wish beyond measure that I could be someone capable of quickly and confidently throwing together a bag and sauntering to the airport, but I simply am not. Instead, my packing process includes hours of agonizing over every little thing I might need or want. And that makes me prone to overpacking and spiraling about what will make the cut—especially when it comes to my skin-care routine.

Packing my precious regimen of lotions and potions used to involve hunching over the bathroom sink and fussing with every aspect of my multistep routine. I would squeeze (what I guesstimated to be) a week’s worth of moisturizer into a leaky tube, or I’d squint at the tiny text on a serum bottle to see whether it would make it past airport security. Trust me, this is no way to start a vacation.

I didn’t think anything could make me a better packer until I started using Cadence Capsules , in 2022. This was about the same time they started appearing as a recommendation in Wirecutter’s gift guide for travelers and on theme-park travel expert Carly Weisel ’s list of must-haves. I recently upgraded with a six-piece set of the redesigned shapes and sizes, and I took those on a test run during a nearly two-week vacation through Thailand and Vietnam. Not only were they a dream to pack, but they kept me well stocked (and highly moisturized!) the entire time.

Although Cadence Capsules haven’t been through comparative testing with other travel-size bottles, I’ve found that the magnetic, hexagonal vessels are great for transporting anything you might need—from skin care to jewelry to vitamins. No, they haven’t magically turned me into a packing savant, but they have absolutely transformed what was once the most stressful part of my routine.

Cadence Capsules

Chic travel containers.

These plastic travel containers hold half an ounce of solids, liquids, or pills, and the magnetized sides keep them compact and easy to locate. They come in sizes ranging from about half an ounce to 2.75 ounces.

Buying Options

Thoughtfully designed for simple packing and use.

Cadence Capsules have a few clever features that have ruined cheap, drugstore silicone toiletry bottles for me.

Unlike the conventional squeezy toiletry tubes, Cadence Capsules are little jars with twist-off lids. On each vessel, the wide mouth makes transferring products a breeze. In my experience, the lids are leakproof, too—I’ve yet to experience a liquid disaster, even in pressurized cabins. (For the record, some users—including Carly Weisel—have mentioned minor leakages. She said she saw slight leakage when she filled her capsules with oil.)

Each capsule has a rounded well, which makes it easy to scoop and scrape out every last bit of thicker products, like moisturizer. And for thinner liquids, like toner, the flat-sided vessels are small and easy to grip, so you have plenty of control when you’re pouring it right into your palms or onto a cotton pad.

A Cadence Capsule collection.

And every vessel comes with a customizable tile that slots neatly into the lid and cleanly labels its contents, so you no longer have to scribble information on tape with a Sharpie. (Those who are less picky can buy pre-labeled ones , too.) “I love the little flippable label magnets—very handy,” said gifts and beauty supervising editor Hannah Morrill.

Their hexagonal shape means the cases won’t roll around, even if you’re playing esthetician on the side of a tiny AirBnb sink. Each vessel is magnetic, so multiple cases snap together into a compact unit that can be easily stowed in your toiletry bag. This capsule honeycomb takes up way less space than my usual mish-mosh of irregularly shaped bottles. Once a lumpy, jam-packed mass, my dopp kit is now a lightweight dream with a thin, flat profile. Besides, when the capsules are click-clacking together, it’s simply, as Hannah puts it, “a stimulating sensory experience.”

Cadence Capsules in a pink hygiene bag.

But maybe my favorite thing about Cadence Capsules is that they’re beautiful—even just sitting on a dinky hotel vanity. I can’t overstate how much more pleasing it is to look upon a matte sage-green and eggshell-white honeycomb than at a jumble of ugly, branded bottles. “Overall, my travel bag is much less cluttered and junky,” Hannah said.

When I’m at home, my skin-care routine is a familiar, calming, and lovely ritual. Cadence Capsules preserve that experience, even when I’m hundreds of miles away.

The perfect sizes for travel

Even the smallest Cadence Capsule holds a generous amount of product, but I love how you can customize the different sizes for different needs.

I have six of the Original Capsules, each of which has a capacity of a little over half an ounce. For my trip to Asia, these vessels were great for holding my moisturizer, cleanser, and makeup remover. I also used one of these small pods to store a getaway’s worth of jewelry—a far better alternative to having my rings and dainty earrings rolling around the bottom of my tote. The Original was discontinued, but it has since been replaced by the Flex Small size , which holds the same volume and works for a lot of the same stuff. Compared with the other Cadence Capsules, the Flex Small model is flat and especially highly conducive to scooping. I used mine to store a thicker serum, which has an almost honey-like consistency, and I think this size would also be great for balms or pomade.

The 1.32-ounce Flex Medium was ideal for carrying enough body lotion to last my entire trip. I used another one to stash some antacids. And both were small and lightweight enough to toss into my purse and tote around daily (plus they carried enough goods to share with my sisters when both inevitably forgot their own). Finally, I loved using the 2.75-ounce Flex Large size for shampoo and conditioner. I loved not needing to pack bulky bottles even more.

Something worth noting: Cadence also sells the Flex Extender , which is essentially a tube you can screw onto any of the Flex Capsules, for an additional 1.43 ounces of space. I attached these to my shampoo and conditioner capsules, since those were the products I needed the most of. And I found that they made the bottles almost too big—at least for my trip’s duration. I couldn’t reach my fingers to the bottom of the well to scoop out my conditioner, and so I was left banging the bottle against my palm to jostle out the thick product. I didn’t end up needing to bring that much conditioner anyway. So unless you truly need to bring a large volume of something, I think you can skip these extenders.

All of the Flex vessels clack together into that nice honeycomb. Best of all? They’re all TSA-compliant (the individual capsules on their own, that is; the Large plus Flex Extender combo would need to be checked). In the past, I simply slotted a whole unit of vessels into my see-through toiletry bag and slid it all into my carry-on. Senior staff writer and travel expert Kit Dillon recommends keeping all toiletries easily accessible and packed in a clear case or zip-top bag within a dopp kit. I’ve never been stopped by the TSA, but if you’re feeling extra-cautious, Cadence suggests placing capsules in a separate tray for easy examination.

Someone holding a medium Cadence Capsule.

Even if I overestimate how much product I need for my trip, I don’t mind keeping the excess in there and continuing to use each Cadence Capsule for a few days when I’m back home; this is something I’d be annoyed at having to do with inferior drugstore squeeze bottles.

They’re a breeze to take care of

Easy maintenance is another perk, since Cadence Capsules have rounded corners, so there are minimal nooks and crannies for skin-care products to fester in. All I do for upkeep is give each vessel and lid a quick wash with mild detergent and water. And I make sure each one is dry before I fill it up for my next trip, which is what the brand recommends . You can take a cotton swab to any tighter spots in the lid. After one and a half years of toting my Cadence Original Capsules around, they’re still in great shape.

But they’re pricey

Cadence Capsules are expensive, ranging from $14 for a single small one to $36 for the largest size. A customizable six-piece set of the smallest capsules —a configuration that I think should suit most people’s needs—currently costs around $90, and there’s a three-pack sampler for about $50 . This is a lot to spend on something you could just grab for a few bucks at the drugstore. (That’s also why we think Cadence Capsules make a great gift.) If the price is really much more than you want to pay, our travel experts recommend a simpler, cheaper toiletry-bottle set , which contains six plastic squeeze bottles in a see-through pouch.

But I’ve found Cadence Capsules to be incredibly worth the price. I love that I never have to buy another cheap, disposable travel tube destined for the landfill. Besides, these vessels feel like they’ve paid for themselves with the peace of mind, convenience, and joy they provide not only when I use them but also when I fill them. (Did I, famed packing hater, really just say that?) What used to be a stress fest is now an almost meditative experience.
