Accor Vacation Club snatched up by Travel + Leisure Co. for $73.6m

Accor Vacation Club snatched up by Travel + Leisure Co. for $73.6m

Travel + Leisure Co. has announced an agreement to acquire the vacation ownership business of global hospitality giant Accor for US$48.4 million (AU$73.6m).

The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2024 and to be immediately accretive to Travel + Leisure Co. earnings upon completion.

Under the terms of the deal, Travel + Leisure Co. will acquire Accor’s vacation ownership business, Accor Vacation Club, representing 24 resorts and nearly 30,000 members. Accor is the largest international hotel chain in the Asia Pacific with more than 1,600 hotels in operation. Accor will receive a percentage of vacation ownership sales revenue as a licensing fee under the exclusive licensing agreement.

Travel + Leisure Co. also receives the exclusive rights to develop new vacation ownership clubs and products utilising the Accor Vacation Club brand across a region including Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Turkey.

Upon deal closing, the Accor Vacation Club business line will report into Barry Robinson, president and managing director of International Operations for Travel + Leisure Co., based in the company’s Singapore office.

“We are excited about building on the legacy of Accor Vacation Club, which has been a recognised and respected presence in the region for more than 20 years,” Robinson said.

“We are a partner of choice for leading hospitality brands because we are able to individually curate their brands and maintain their unique offerings to travellers. Utilising our experience and the scale of our global platform, we will be able to accelerate the growth of this vacation club business by delivering outstanding vacation experiences for current and future members.”

Sebel in Darling Harbour will now come under Travel + Leisure Co.

The acquisition will create a new line of business for Travel + Leisure Co. as Accor is added to the company’s portfolio of brand affiliations, including Wyndham, Margaritaville, and Sports Illustrated. The addition of Accor Vacation Club to the Travel + Leisure Co. international portfolio increases its membership to more than 100,000 in the Asia Pacific region and grows its club resort count by approximately 40 percent to 77.

The Accor Vacation Club resorts are distributed across Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia under Accor brands Peppers, MGallery, Grand Mercure, The Sebel, Novotel, Mantra and Mercure in locations including tropical Nusa Dua in Bali, Indonesia, magnificent Darling Harbour in Sydney, Australia, and the capital of South Pacific adventure tourism, Queenstown in New Zealand.

Duncan O’Rourke, CEO Accor MEA APAC – Premium, Midscale and Economy Division, said the agreement highlights Accor’s ongoing business evolution.

“The transaction is aligned with our asset-light strategy and allows us to monetise our existing business and enhance recurring fee streams, supporting the continued growth of our franchised hotel network across Asia Pacific,” said O’Rourke.

“By selling the business to a trusted and proven operator with significant scale, we will be able to grow the business and continue to drive outstanding hospitality experiences for Accor Vacation Club members.”

Important News: Travel + Leisure Co. Acquisition

accor travel club

As a valued part of Club Wyndham South Pacific, we wanted to provide you with relevant news concerning Travel + Leisure Co. (NYSE:TNL), parent company of Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific  – the Developer of Club Wyndham South Pacific .

Today, Travel + Leisure Co. announced an agreement to acquire the timeshare business of global hospitality group Accor. We would like to provide clarity about the announcement.

The acquisition will create a new line of business for Travel + Leisure Co., called Accor Vacation Club. It will be a distinct club from Club Wyndham, WorldMark by Wyndham, Margaritaville by Wyndham, Shell Vacation Club, Sports Illustrated Resorts vacation club, and the other vacation ownership brands owned by Travel + Leisure Co. All clubs will continue to operate separately.

While cross-club agreements exist between some of the clubs managed by Travel + Leisure Co. entities – allowing owners to travel to resorts belonging to other clubs – there is currently no cross-club agreement encompassing Accor Vacation Club either in place or under negotiation at this time.

We want to reassure you that the acquisition will not change the way your club operates. Club Wyndham South Pacific is a self-contained club and will continue to operate for the benefit of its owners, as it has always done.

This announcement represents confidence in the vacation club model and its future. This agreement is designed to enable Travel + Leisure Co. to fulfil a key intent to operate and grow its vacation ownership business under multiple well-known brands simultaneously, including Club Wyndham and Accor Vacation Club.

If you have any further questions about this announcement, please feel free to contact your Customer Care team at  [email protected] .

We look forward to continuing our development of Club Wyndham South Pacific and seeing its owners enjoy memorable holiday experiences that last a lifetime.

Travel + leisure co. acquisition of accor vacation club successfully closes.

ORLANDO, Fla. & GOLD COAST, Australia, March 04, 2024 --( BUSINESS WIRE )-- Travel + Leisure Co. (NYSE:TNL), the world’s leading membership and leisure travel company, has successfully closed the acquisition of the vacation ownership business of global hospitality giant Accor (AC:FP). The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive to Travel + Leisure Co. earnings.

The deal means the Accor Vacation Club based in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia will now be integrated into the Travel + Leisure Co. business structure. The company has assumed responsibility for the development and marketing of Accor Vacation Club, along with the servicing of nearly 30,000 club members and management of 24 club resorts in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.

The acquisition increases the international portfolio of Travel + Leisure Co. – outside North America –to more than 100,000 members and its club resort count to 77.

As part of the agreement, Travel + Leisure Co. has the ability to develop new vacation ownership clubs and products utilising the Accor Vacation Club brand across a region including Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye.

"These markets are all large consumer markets with incredible growth potential, and Accor’s portfolio of hotel and resort brands are already well-known and highly regarded by travellers in these regions, making them logical places for the future expansion of the Accor Vacation Club business," said Barry Robinson, President and Managing Director of International Operations for Travel + Leisure Co.

"Our intention is to grow the brand in the various markets where we are licensed and expand in the markets Accor Vacation Club is already operating in.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to build on the 24-year legacy of Accor Vacation Club and, as the world’s leader in vacation ownership, we have the knowledge to grow Accor Vacation Club while conveying its unique propositions and delivering the elevated guest experiences the business is renowned for," Robinson added.

The acquisition was a strategic move that enabled Travel + Leisure Co. to fulfil one of its key intents to operate and grow its vacation ownership businesses under other well-known brands, alongside brands like Wyndham, Sports Illustrated, and Margaritaville.

Travel + Leisure Co. oversees the development of Club Wyndham South Pacific and Club Wyndham Asia from its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore. Club Wyndham South Pacific and Accor Vacation Club were both launched on the Gold Coast in the year 2000, and are two of the largest vacation clubs in Australia and New Zealand.

Current Accor Vacation Club CEO Craig Wood will stay on and oversee day-to-day operations of that business and will report to Barry Robinson as part of the Travel + Leisure Co. structure.

"At Accor Vacation Club, we have a team that is passionate about the brand and product and are excited about this change," said Wood. "We look forward to seeing the Accor Vacation Club brand grow and continue to deliver great outcomes for club members with guidance from Travel + Leisure Co."
