The British Columbia Automobile Association (BCAA) was founded in 1906 (then known as the Victoria Automobile Club) when a group of motoring enthusiasts came together to enjoy their hobby and help each other when their vehicles broke down. By 1940, an affiliation of 31 clubs across B.C. officially amalgamated under the name BCAA and opened a head office in Vancouver.

Today, the BCAA is a member of the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) and the American Automobile Association (AAA), serving members in British Columbia and the Yukon.

The CAA is made up of nine regional clubs across Canada, including CAA South Central Ontario (that includes Manitoba), North East Ontario, Niagara, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, the Maritimes, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

BCAA insurance offers home, car, travel, small business and life insurance, as well as health and dental insurance.

BCAA travel insurance is underwritten by BCAA Insurance Corporation. Claims are administered by Orion Travel Insurance Company and its subcontractors.

Here are the key types of travel insurance coverage offered in BCAA travel insurance plans:

  • Emergency medical insurance: If you get ill or are injured on your trip, travel medical insurance can pay for emergency medical expenses, up to the coverage limits in your plan. These expenses can include doctor and hospital bills, medication and lab work.
  • Trip cancellation insurance: If you cancel a trip for a reason listed in your travel policy, such as you or your travelling companion becoming ill, weather conditions causing a massive delay or you end up losing your job, trip cancellation insurance can reimburse you for prepaid, non-refundable costs.
  • Travel interruption or delay insurance: Trip interruption insurance can pay for a last-minute flight home in an emergency and money that you lose if you have to return home earlier than expected, such as non-refundable activities and hotel stays. If your flight is delayed , your insurance can cover the cost of incidentals, such as meals or accommodations, after a specified period of time, usually six, 10 or 12 hours.
  • Baggage insurance: Baggage travel insuranc e can compensate you up to your policy limits if your luggage is lost or stolen. It will reimburse the depreciated value of your suitcases and what you packed. If your checked bags are delayed, it can reimburse you for the cost of the necessities you’ll have to buy to tide you over.
  • Travel accident insurance. This coverage offers compensation in the event of accidental death or catastrophic injury from an accident during your trip. Flight Accident Insurance covers injury while you’re on a commercial plane, during a connection or in an airport. Travel Accident Insurance covers death or dismemberment, including the loss of limbs or eyesight, while on your trip. This is also called Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit.

BCAA allows you to customize the amount of travel insurance coverage you need. For example, you could opt for the most comprehensive travel insurance protection by selecting the Travel Emergency Medical Insurance and the Trip Protection Package (that bundles four coverages) or if you’re mostly concerned about lost, damaged or stolen personal items during your travels, you could just select the Baggage coverage option as an add-on to your emergency medical coverage. Alternatively, if you have medical coverage elsewhere (such as a travel credit card ) you could select the Trip Protection Package coverage.

The individual benefits are as follows:

Travel Emergency Medical Insurance: If you’re worried about medical emergencies while travelling, this benefit includes the following coverage:

  • Hospital accommodation up to a semi-private room
  • Out-patient services provided by a hospital
  • One follow-up visit within 14 days of initial treatment

Trip Protection Package: This package bundles four coverage options, including trip cancellation and interruption, baggage, travel delay and COVID-19 quarantine, and travel accident coverage.

  • Trip Cancellation and Interruption coverage: This reimburses you for insured travel expenses (such as hotels or prepaid excursions) if you have to cancel, interrupt, extend or modify your trip due to a covered reason either before your trip or after you have left home. This includes transportation expenses if you have to interrupt, modify or extend your trip, as well as a subsistence allowance for hotels and meals if your return home is delayed. You can select the amount of trip cancellation coverage before departure, between $250 and $100,000.
  • Baggage: This provides compensation if your baggage is delayed, lost, stolen or damaged during your trip.
  • Travel Delay & COVID-19 Quarantine: This provides reimbursement for COVID-19 quarantine expenses, such as unplanned accommodations, as well as expenses incurred due to a flight delay.

Rather than purchase the package, you can buy the following benefits individually:

  • Baggage: As above.
  • Travel Delay & COVID-19 Quarantine: As above.
  • Travel Accident: As above.
  • Pet Coverage: This covers pet-related costs for boarding and/or transportation if you are hospitalized, repatriated or if you die while on your trip. It also covers veterinary fees if your pet is injured during the trip. Maximum coverage is $600.

With a BCAA Travel Insurance plan you can purchase family coverage for two or more people, 59 years old and under, and any dependent children or grandchildren.

In addition, when purchasing your coverage you will be asked, “Where are you travelling?” The options are:

  • Worldwide (including USA): Covers you anywhere in the world, including the United States. This includes short stopovers, layovers and cross-border shopping trips to the U.S.
  • Worldwide (not including USA): Covers international travel to non-U.S. destinations. This also allows you to travel via the U.S. for up to five days, such as if you travel through the U.S. to reach your destination.
  • Within Canada: This provides travel insurance for trips within Canada .

The price of a BCAA Travel Insurance plan depends on factors such as the cost of your trip (for trip cancellation and interruption coverage), your age, your health and the amount of coverage you choose.

Here are some price examples of BCAA Travel Insurance plans for healthy travellers based in B.C. assuming a $0 deductible.

You can also add an optional deductible, or the amount you will pay out of pocket before your coverage kicks in, to your travel medical insurance to lower the cost of your premium. Deductible options include: $500, $750, $1,000 and $2,500.

Here’s a comparison of the emergency medical insurance premium with and without a $500 deductible.

BCAA Travel Insurance offers a pre-existing coverage add-on that provides $300,000 in additional medical coverage for an unstable pre-existing medical condition. To be eligible for this coverage, you must not have had any symptoms or received medical consultation in the seven days before your departure.

Here’s how this add-on could affect your emergency medical premium cost:

BCAA members earn 10% off their premium for any travel insurance plan. Travellers who have held an annual multi-trip plan for three years or more earn an additional 10% off.

Yes. You can buy multi-trip insurance if you travel more than once a year for several individual trips. BCAA Travel Insurance offers annual multi-trip insurance for worldwide (including USA) plans for both emergency medical and trip protection coverage for separate trips of three, eight, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 183 and 365 days.

Here’s how the cost compares between single-trip and multi-trip insurance:

If you stay longer than the number of days on your plan, you can purchase a top-up.

BCAA Claims Assistance is available 24/7 (for medical emergencies), 365 days of the year and can help you when you’re faced with a travel emergency. Support while you’re travelling includes:

  • Assistance finding the nearest medical facility
  • Payment to hospitals and other medical providers for travel emergency medical expenses, guaranteed where possible
  • Medical consultative and advisory services, including review of appropriateness and analysis of your medical care
  • Monitoring of progress during your treatment and recovery
  • Management, arrangement and authorization of emergency medical evacuation
  • Multilingual assistance
  • Travel assistance for your family
  • Family/employer communications and message centre
  • Arranging for a medical assistant to travel with you
  • Submitting paperwork to your government health care plan and extended care benefits plan
  • Referral to legal assistance
  • Travel assistance for lost documents, lost luggage, etc.
  • Referral to Canadian consular services worldwide

Support before you leave on your trip includes:

  • Tourist visa and/or passport information
  • Information regarding inoculation and vaccination requirements
  • Weather information
  • Currency exchange information

BCAA will not pay any medical expenses related to any medical condition that is not stable for a set period of time, before your coverage takes effect.

A medical condition is considered stable when all of the following are true:

  • There has been no deterioration of your condition as determined by your physician.
  • There have been no new symptoms or findings or more frequent or severe symptoms or findings.
  • There has been no change in medical treatment or no alteration in any medication for the condition.
  • There has been no new medical treatment prescribed or recommended by a physician or received.

Specifically, BCAA has the following age-specific exclusions:

For travellers 59 years of age or under (on your policy’s effective date): Benefits are not payable for costs related to any medical condition that was not stable in the 90 days before your departure.

For travellers 60 years of age or over (on your policy’s effective date): Benefits are not payable for costs related to any medical condition that was not stable in the 180 days before your departure.

There are a number of scenarios not covered by travel insurance and it’s critical to know what not to do before you make a claim. In addition to pre-existing condition exclusions, the following are some of the most common situations not covered by BCAA travel medical insurance:

  • A trip taken against medical advice
  • A trip taken after the diagnosis of a terminal condition
  • A trip taken while you are receiving palliative care or palliative care has been recommended
  • Any health condition for which diagnostic tests had been taken or scheduled before departure and for which results were not received (with exceptions)
  • Any medical treatment due to complications or recurrence after the emergency ends
  • Costs for emergency air transportation when the arrangements were not made by BCAA Claims Assistance
  • Illness or injury incurred if you choose to travel to a destination with a level 3 (avoid unnecessary travel) or level 4 (avoid all travel) travel advisories were in effect before departure and the illness or injury is related to the reason for the travel advisory
  • Expenses incurred when coverage is purchased after departure
  • Any medical expenses in excess of $50,000 if you are not covered by government health insurance
  • Loss, theft or breakage of prosthetic devices or dentures

Additional exclusions will apply for trip cancellation and interruption, baggage and travel delay coverage.

Also, there is currently no coverage for any trips taken to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus or any other country subject to a level 3 (avoid non-essential travel) and level 4 (avoid all travel) travel advisory issued by the Canadian government due to the armed conflict with Russia.

There is no coverage for any trip cancellation or trip interruption claims related to COVID-19. There is, however, coverage for travel medical emergencies for fully- and partially-vaccinated travellers.

To be eligible for medical travel insurance with BCAA, the following must apply:

  • You are a Canadian resident.
  • You have not been advised against travel by your physician.
  • You have not been diagnosed with a terminal condition.
  • You are not receiving palliative care or palliative care has not been recommended.

In addition, you must be a resident of B.C. or the Yukon to purchase travel insurance.

Due to high call volumes, BCAA recommends you file your claim online at BCAA.com/travelclaims or by email at [email protected]. You can file a medical, dental and trip cancellation/interruption claim online 24/7 by logging into your account via BCAA’s partner Global Excel Management.

Depending on the kind of claim, you will also need to provide supporting documentation within one year from the date of loss.

Depending on your claim, supporting documentation may include:

  • Original itemized receipts of out-of-pocket expenses incurred
  • Medical certificate(s) from attending physician(s) completed with diagnosis, dates of service and type of treatment
  • Original pharmacy prescription receipts
  • Completed government health insurance plan forms
  • A copy of the death certificate, will or power of attorney and police report, if applicable
  • Original unused airline tickets
  • Itemized travel agency invoices showing full payment for your trip
  • Statement from the travel agency, airline or tour operator documenting refunds provided
  • Proof of loss for stolen property, such as a police report
  • Written estimate to repair damaged baggage
  • Proof of baggage delay and itemized recipes for personal necessities purchased

BCAA notes that the majority of claims are resolved within 30 business days.

BCAA Travel Insurance FAQs

Does bcaa pay for medical costs upfront.

According to the BCAA travel insurance policy, when you have selected travel emergency medical insurance, the following services are available to assist you in a medical emergency: “Payment to hospitals and other medical providers for emergency medical expenses will be guaranteed where possible relieving [the] claimant of credit responsibilities.”

Does BCAA offer coverage extensions?

Yes. Your coverage is automatically extended for up to seven days starting on the final day of your trip due to a transportation delay, such as a common carrier delay, vehicle accident or breakdown. If you are hospitalized, your coverage is extended for the period of hospitalization and up to seven days after discharge. If your return home is delayed due to a medical emergency that does not require hospitalization but makes you unfit to travel, your coverage is extended for up to seven days. If you are unable to travel home due to quarantine as a result of a positive COVID-19 test, your insurance will be extended for a maximum of 14 days.

You can also request an extension if you want to stay longer on your trip, as long as:

  • You have not seen a physician or other registered medical professional since your departure date or effective date of the policy.
  • You have not submitted a claim and have no intent to submit a claim.
  • You are in good health and you do not know of any reason to seek medical attention.
  • Your period of coverage has not already expired.

You will be charged a service fee, in addition to the new premium.

Does BCAA require a medical questionnaire?

Yes. Travellers age 60 and over are required to complete a health questionnaire.

Does BCAA have any age restrictions?

There are no noted age restrictions beyond the age-specific exclusions for pre-existing conditions, family coverage eligibility and requirement to complete a questionnaire.

Does BCAA provide coverage for COVID-19?

BCAA provides the coverage for COVID-19 if you purchase travel emergency medical insurance for annual multi-trip and single trip for worldwide travel, and single trip excluding USA travel.

If you test positive or are diagnosed with COVID-19 while on your trip, BCAA travel insurance provides up to $10 million in coverage if you have been fully vaccinated 14 days or more before your departure date or if you are under 18 whether or not you have received the vaccine. You are eligible for $1 million in coverage if you have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

There are exceptions to this coverage, including if you did not receive any Health Canada-approved vaccinations, if you tested positive or had symptoms in the 14 days before your trip or if you received a COVID-19 diagnosis and experienced complications in the 90 or 180 days before your trip, depending on your age.

When does my coverage with BCAA begin?

In general, if you purchase cancellation coverage, it begins the day you buy your policy and ends the day when you make a claim or leave on your trip. Your emergency medical coverage and interruption coverage, if purchased, begins when you leave home. Your delay coverage begins once an insured risk prevents you from returning home as scheduled.

Can I get a refund with BCAA?

You can request a cancellation and full refund of your contract before the effective date of the contract (the date the coverage begins) or during the 10 days following the date of purchase, unless:

  • You have made or intend to make a claim.
  • The contract is for a period of 10 days or less.
  • The contract was purchased within 11 days before the trip and includes trip cancellation or interruption coverage.

If you purchase trip protection coverage, you can request a refund (less a cancellation fee) if:

  • The tour operator cancels the trip and all penalties are waived.
  • You cancel the trip prior to the effective date of any cancellation penalties.
  • The tour operator changes the travel date and you are unable to travel and all cancellation fees are waived.

If you return early from your trip and have not submitted or intend to submit a claim, or if no Medi-Assist case has been opened, you can request a partial refund of your premium. However, a refund of premium does not apply if:

  • You are covered for a trip cancellation benefit.
  • You are covered for an emergency return benefit.
  • You are covered under an annual insurance contract.
  • You are repatriated at the insurer’s expense.
  • Your refundable premium is less than $20 after application of the $25 administration fee.

Does BCAA offer a free look period?

BCAA travel insurance offers a 10-day full refund provision whereby you have 10 days starting from the application date to review your policy to ensure it meets your travel needs. You can request a full refund as long as no travel has taken place. This provision does not apply to the Trip Protection Package.

I have been a practicing Chiropractor for the last thirty-two years. I have worked with many brokers over the years, but none have come close to the service my wife I have received from Samantha [Slack]. She is very communicative, patient and listens to our concerns as we wade through sometime complex insurance issues. We are both happy with Samantha Slack’s service and look

forward to working with her every year for our insurance needs.

Dr. G. Mark Wensley (2/2)

I had the pleasure of working with an exceptional insurance agent who went above and beyond to ensure that our insurance needs were met. Steve Noreen was attentive, patient and knowledgeable, taking the time to answer all of our questions and explain the various coverage options available for our organization.

Steve’s dedication to finding us the proper coverage was evident throughout the entire process. He worked tirelessly to ensure that we had the best possible coverage at the best price available.

I would highly recommend Steve to anyone in need of reliable and professional insurance services.

Samantha, I want to thank you very much for your quick and efficient service in relation to insuring my most recent boat. You’ve helped me insure three boats now, but this one required particularly quick action since the boat arrived late from the builder and I was committed to take it on a trip almost immediately upon delivery. I know you had to work extra time (sometimes late at night) to meet the deadlines – always cheerfully.

Hank I. (1/2)

We were also working with a less experienced dealer and a rather opaque Bill of Sale, which required some additional work on your part – which was appreciated.

Thanks again. You are a big reason for us to stay with Megson Fitzpatrick, not only for boats but other insurance needs.

Hank I. (2/2)

I wanted to send you a quick note that I was very impressed with the service Samantha [Slack] has provided me with my house insurance renewal.  Samantha was very responsive, made herself available for a meeting to answer my questions, and I felt she really went above and beyond with her service.  I would be happy to recommend Samantha to any of my friend, family, or business contacts.

Hi Samantha [Slack]

Thanks very much for the speedy service. I needed boat insurance quickly to complete my purchase of a vessel and you made it easy. It was good to have a couple of quotes to compare. I’ve been with Megson FitzPatrick for my current boat and that has worked well. Thanks again.

I would like to inform you of the exceptional customer service experience I received from your insurance broker Samantha Slack.  There is no question that she is far superior to the insurance brokers I have dealt with in the past from Harbord, Brown Brothers and other insurance agencies. For the most part people see insurance as a commodity and it does not really matter what you buy. But I can attest that the broker relationship is the key that sets you apart from others, and the insurance broker staff is the face of the organization,

Matt E. (1/3)

resulting in either a good or bad experience.

Samantha’s knowledge of the products is exceptional and her response time and follow up to e-mails and questions is unique in this era of poor / declining customer service. My introduction to Megson FitzPatrick has been a very positive experience due to Samantha’s assistance, resulting in my transfer of two residential policies and a commercial policy for my business.

Matt E. (2/3)

I will likely be moving my other policies over to Megson in the future when they come due.  I would like to thank the Management team at Megson for their recruitment and training of exceptional staff like Samantha. You are definitely a step above the other insurance options in Victoria.

Matt E. (3/3)

I send this expressly to commend the excellent, most professional service extended by two of your representatives :      Jessica Young      Keith Frey

I live in Vancouver and was considering purchasing a motorcycle located in Kamloops.  Now 74 years of age, I’ve owned many motorcycles since I was 15, so after many long and quite detailed phone conversations with the Seller, I came to the conclusion that the purchase would be sound and worthy of the 4 hour trip to Kamloops to close the sale upon first inspection.

Allen M. (1/3)

In order to simplify the insurance matter and upon the Seller’s specific recommendation, I chose Megson-Fitzpatrick, the current Insurer, even though you’re Office is in Victoria….thus the transaction was to be conducted through a triangulation of Vancouver, Kamloops and Victoria locations.

Potentially disastrous ! I t wasn’t – Rather, Jessica and Keith worked jointly ( depending upon who was available to answer my phone calls ) to analyze my situation, provide advice as well as options, then prepare and establish the new Policy, so that I would be thoroughly protected on my way back home to

Allen M. (2/3)

Because the Sale and Transfer of Ownership would occur in Kamloops, both Jessica and Keith also provided guidance on how I would be dealing with an ICBC representative in that town.

With that advice, the entire transaction occurred smoothly and successfully.

My Appreciation and Commendation again goes out to Jessica & Keith. My Congratulations conveys to you, Christopher, and to M-F for service and management well conducted.

Allen M. (3/3)

Megson FitzPatrick has been our Societies go to insurance agency. We have a fleet of antique military vehicles and your staff has always been helpful in suggesting ideas and cost savings. We do all of our personal vehicle insurance through Megson FitzPatrick, and will continue to do so.

Diane & Doug B.

I was referred to your insurance brokerage by a friend who spoke highly of your services after he suffered a serious issue with his boat. since I needed new insurance, I followed up and contacted Ms. Samantha Slack to see if she could help me with a marine insurance policy. Her responses from my initial email request forward were very prompt and focused. She provided me with two viable options in just a few days. This was a very positive experience which I rate as excellent

Happy new year! Thank you so much. I just paid it online, so we’re all set.

I really appreciate your help, and I just wanted to let you know, I tried dealing with my usual insurance company that we had our condo insurance with, and they were nowhere near as easy to work with as you. You were so much more helpful, and we very happily made the jump from their services to yours.

Thanks again,

We are often too quick to criticize when things go wrong and too slow to show appreciation when things go right. I have been insuring my (now five) motorcycles with your company for 10 years. Furthermore, I have been purchasing insurance for various machines, including commercial aircraft, for more than 50 years. I know insurance companies. Since my relationship with Megson FitzPatrick began my agent has been Chris Murphy. I cannot speak too highly of the friendly, competent, timely service Chris has given me over the years. While discounts are always appreciated, that is not why I moved from Beacon to your company. Christopher Murphy is the reason I am with your company.

Jerry O’Leary Cutler

I actually live on the mainland but often visit the island. Any time I can I try and insure my vehicle here instead of anywhere else. I have had great experiences with the employees here. Vicky Bui helped me this time when I went in. She was polite, knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. Helped me to insure my vehicle as fast and pain-free as possible. I highly recommend getting your insurance here.

I’ve had a couple bikes insured with Megson FitzPatrick and each time I’ve had to call their support centre; either for an insurance transfer, or simply to purchase or end insurance, they have been quick, simple and very friendly. Their staff know what they are talking about and they offer solid motorcycle insurance for the year at very good/competitive rates.

I came into the office on Shelbourne today and Shelly Parussini helped me get tenant insurance. I found her to be professional, efficient, warm and supportive. She went the extra mile and I so appreciate her kindness during this difficult time in my life.

Fast and efficient. Good service in the time of COVID.

Very quick an agent was able to answer all questions we had!

Awesome! I could renew my insurance over the phone. Mailed my tags within days. Very happy with the service.

I wanted to write in and say what a wonderful appointment I had today in your office. The staff were very helpful. I was one of those long and arduous “transfer from out of province “ appointments lol. My insurance person Michael? Was very kind and patient. I’m ever so glad I chose you as my insurance folks and will highly recommend you to everyone- I do a lot of talking! Thank- you for making what would normally be a chore into a very lovely experience!

Made an appointment for auto-renewal. Promptly at time of appointment, agent met me at front door and all covid-19 policies were in place. The service to renew this insurance was quick and professional. Always great service at this location.

I am writing to express my appreciation for the service that I received on July 14. My requirement was to change some details of the coverage on one of my vehicles. The first issue that I found which warrants a compliment was the efficiency of the process for making the change. It was extraordinarily fast and easy. The second issue was the service provided by Jackie Brown. She provided excellent help in a very cordial manner and this also merits recognition. So, thank you for the service.

Megson FitzPatrick at Shelbourne is the best Insurance agent around. Super friendly and helpful staff. The car ownership transfer is done in no time. I tried ICBC at Hillside the day before but they have too many reasons not to provide a service (like “appointment only” and they were very close to store closing so they said that “will not have enough time for that”.

I am writing to express my appreciation for the excellent customer service I received when renewing my auto insurance this past Monday evening from Katarina Reid. She was so very helpful and her calm, patient, professional manner was a great help to me when my frustration of dealing with another company had reached its limit. Katarina is a true asset to your firm, and I won’t hesitate in recommending Megson Fitzpatrick in future.

Very helpful through a challenging vehicle transfer.

My go-to office for all insurance needs. Courteous, helpful staff are always ready and have innovated a safe, practical approach for customer service during these pandemic times.

I had a really good experience. They were nice, clear, and fast.

Auto Insurance renewal. In and out in about 15 minutes.

Great staff, very fast and helpful.

Simple. Great price for motorcycle insurance, including multi-bike discount.

Excellent Service! No waiting! Strict COVID-19 protocol enforced, Great Walker/ Wheelchair access. Friendly super helpful and efficient Staff Members who really Smile! They are soo fast, and our Business only took 20 mins! The BEST Insurance service, compared to Coast capital, who always have lineups, eat at their desks, and seem miserable. We Love Megan Fitzpatrick!

Excellent service would recommend to anyone.

Dear sir/madam, I was recently at your office needing auto insurance updating and I had the pleasure of being served by Mr. Michael Chaves. Having recently lost my Spouse of several years to a traumatic massive stroke, I was needing name changes on our automobile ownership, a new policy solely under my name and new licence plates. As you may imagine, this was a very difficult appointment for me. Unfortunately, I brought some of the wrong papers for the work to be done. Mr. Chaves didn’t give up on me, and found the papers I needed in my file, processed them and made everything right for me. I am also very hard of hearing and again Mr. Chaves was patient even to the point of writing the needed requests for me to understand the process if necessary. He also offered to help me change my licence plates. With such superlative service, I wanted to give Mr Chaves a cash token of my appreciation. He graciously declined and kindly told me he felt honoured to have helped me and expressed sorrow for my loss. Mr. Chaves is a wonderful credit to your company. Having our house insurance with your company as well, there has only been the best service I can imagine from your employees over the years. But this was a huge leap and I cannot express enough how Mr. Chaves’ kindness, thoroughness and patience saved me the grief of having to search for, and revisit this painful appointment. I want you to know what an exemplary employee you are so fortunate to have. Mr. Chaves is a wonderful addition to the Megson FitzPatrick family. Thank you for your time.

Jackie Brown went above and beyond with my recent provincial import of a 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser. She was friendly, personable, and professional. Jackie explained the process very well and was patient and helpful with me through the course of my 4 phone calls regarding the transaction. My visit to your uptown location was great Jackie and staff were very friendly, prompt and attentive.

I wanted to take the time (which is precious as I am extremely busy) to say I was so impressed by the service I received from my new account manager Martha Mena in your Victoria Branch – for our home insurance renewal. While I have been with MF for some time and receive decent service in the past, Martha was exceptional. As someone who manages staff, I found she has that customer service quality that is hard to find today. Martha is engaged, informative, professional and very personable. I am writing this as I hope this would go into her HR file and be part of any future performance review or performance feedback as this type of service needs to be recognized. I also compliment anyone who is managing Martha or did the hire as they saw success and acted on it…congrats as I know from experience that isn’t always easy to do. I called with a concern and left as a more committed customer to MF because I could tell we are in good hands.

My last stop after a long day of work today was to pick up my new license plates at Megson Fitzpatrick. It ended up being the highlight of my day. Natalie Willock was kind and professional when she greeted me. She was so organized and made the logistics of covid precautions feel easy breezy. I can’t remember the name of the woman who helped me with my car insurance and I can’t recognize her on any pictures on your website, but she was the absolute best. She was efficient, knowledgeable and went above and beyond. She was thorough in explaining all of the changes to my insurance charges and we celebrated that I was now paying Island prices instead of Vancouver prices! I was excited to pick up my new colourful plates with the little bear on them and she emphatically shared in the excitement with me. We even did a brief Wikipedia search about the Kermode bears. She helped me pick out tools to replace my plates and provided zip-ties when my car’s hardware was too old to reuse. She was honestly just so pleasant and she deserves to be recognized for the wonderful person and employee that she is. If there is any way to find out who she was through my information, here it is: I was insuring a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder with new plates PF787A and I had my walk-in appointment at 3:30 on April 14, 2021. I think her desk was the second one in to the left. If that helps identify the perfect unicorn that provided my insurance, please give her a big thumbs up. Who knew a quick stopover to pick up car insurance could be so fun? Your team is respectful, professional, and an absolute delight. Your hiring manager probably also deserves a pat on the back for hiring such great people.

Sincere thanks for all of your assistance today. We are looking forward to working with you. Anna, sincere thanks to you for the amazing service you have provided to us over the past 3 1/2 years. We feel so fortunate that you answered the telephone when we called inquiring about vehicle insurance. You have provided outstanding and professional service during every encounter. You were very proactive with us as policies were coming up for renewal. Also, you remembered our home insurance was coming up for renewal and introduced us to Melissa. Like you, Melissa was extremely well prepared leading to the two of you taking over our home insurance. Have a wonderful evening and a fantastic week everyone!

Kathie & Mike R.

Fantastic as always. Never had an unprofessional or unfriendly experience.

Always great to deal with. Thanks for your assistance.

Very pleased with the service provided. The online appointment was easy to make. The reception at your office was prompt and courteous. The renewal was handled efficiently.

It was very, very pleasant and there was a young gentleman named Michael who look after me He was very pleasant and very methodical and checked all his calculations over. I have been dealing with Megson FitzPatrick for many yrs and have always had a pleasant experience. Sorry I don’t know Michaels last name but I did ask him for his business card and he said he hasn’t got business cards as yet but that will happen. He is fairly new there I gather. Michael is a keeper in my books for Megson FitzPatrick Insurance. Thanks a bunch Again, I would have Michael in my employ anytime if I were employing.

I came in today with what I thought was a simple insurance purchase, however, it quickly turned into quite the ordeal because I came from out of province and have a leased vehicle. The lady that helped me, I believe her name was Vicki, she was sitting at the first desk on the left. She was absolutely wonderful and handled everything smoothly. She explained everything very well and made sure she had covered all the steps thoroughly. Just wanted to let someone know, it was a very long but pleasant experience thanks to her.

Super pleased with the coverage and the service Megson FitzPatrick has offered over the last little while. I will definitely recommend you to anyone looking for Insurance! 🙂

You guys are great, you are very well organized and geographically easy to get to at Uptown. We have 5 vehicles in our family and all are insured thru you. I was particularly happy that today you had a replacement veteran plate in stock to replace the one I had stolen recently. Fantastic job you do.

Hello! I had to come in to the Uptown office on Monday to cancel my insurance and was very happy how quick and courteous the staff was! They’ve always been very nice and pleasant to deal with. Thanks as always! I definitely plan on choosing you guys again when I get another vehicle. Thanks.

Great, Quick, friendly, clear service.

I just returned from your Victoria Uptown location and as every time I’ve been there the customer service has been excellent! Everyone I’ve been dealing with at MF during repeat visits over the past year has been extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I also appreciate the office’s Covid policies in place to keep everyone safe. I’m lucky to have such as friendly and competent insurance broker in my neighbourhood.

Apologies as this is slow…but believe when you are treated with exceptional charm, wit, good humour and professionalism you should share! I had the good fortune of renewing my car insurance with the vivacious Ms. Jackie Brown at the Uptown locale… this woman is exceptional and so kind and easy-going…actually made the process of insurance renewal at Christmas, during a pandemic a breeze…. thank you Ms. Jackie… you are an asset to the business and keep on keeping on…

WOW! Blown Away! HUGE S/O to Jackie Brown/Auto Acct. Mngr at @MFIVictoria. Her prompt cheerful helpful efficient service is rare and #MadeMyDay and made me #CustomerForLife of this #YYJ company. Highly recommend to anyone in #Victoria. Thx Jackie <3

Hi There, my wife and I were in for an auto-renewal appointment at 0915am this morning (Dec 15). We were at the Shelbourne St office. The customer service agent that dealt with us was very nice, professional, knowledgeable and patient. It was very easy to interact with her. Please pass on our thanks to her and let her supervisor know how lovely our experience was with her today. In this day and age, it seems like the only time people contact a business is when they are dissatisfied. We were very satisfied with the customer service today and your employee deserves thanks and appreciation for that.

Rob & Leslee C.

We were very pleased with the agent who processed the Vehicle registration renewal. Likewise, my husband and I were impressed with Shelley Parussini who explained the details of our B.C. home insurance in a clear and easy-to-understand fashion.

I was in this morning re autoplan renewal. Jacklyn helped me out today and the last couple of times I have come in. Jacklyn is very knowledgeable and pleasant. I used to be all BCAA however am now transitioning to MF. One of the main reasons for this is your customer service. Fantastic! I will also add that your online appointment system is very convenient.

I had a very nice, and very unusual experience last week. Out of the blue, someone named Samantha Rankin who works for Megson Fitzpatrick reached out and asked if I knew that my good credit score could help me get lower rates on my insurance. I. WAS. FLOORED. My most common experience in getting better rates normally involves threatening my mobile provider/internet provider that I’m moving my business. Then they miraculously find me a better rate with more features. It always comes down to thinly veiled threats. I can’t tell you how nice it was to have Ms. Rankin tell me I could get lower rates, and that she would handle all the work. This is how great brands are built. Give her a raise!

I had two appointments with your staff. One was over the phone to renew our vehicle insurance and the other was in-person to transfer a travel trailer into our name and insure it. Both staff were absolutely lovely to deal with, the length of the appointments were great and any questions or concerns I had were answered. Very good experience!!

Just wanted to follow up with my appointment today at the Uptown Centre in Victoria BC. Was greeted at the door by [Vicky] very pleasantly. Proceeded on to my appointment with [Hayley] to transfer a vehicle into my name and buy insurance. Just wanted to pass on the excellent service I received and how easy and pleasant the process was. Would highly recommend Haley and your company to my friends.

I was just at your office this afternoon and received excellent service! Katrina was amazing and very patient with me. I had two vehicles that I needed to register and insure in B.C from Alberta. She explained very clearly all the difference between provinces and helped me in deciding what to insure! I will without question recommended Megson Fitzpatrick as all staff seem extremely helpful and professional! It is very difficult these days with covid to been seen without an appointment but Sheila manage to accommodate me and explain what documentation I needed when I came back to the office. Thanks to both ladies as moving is stressful enough!

The lovely person who helped me was named Jaclyn at the Shelbourne branch. She was an absolute pleasure to work with! 10/10

Awesome service and the agent was very knowledgeable and helpful. You got me as a customer. Thank you!

I received excellent service when I went to my appointment. Your representative was awesome and informative.

I wanted to pass along how wonderful your staff is. From the receptionist to Jackie Brown, who renewed my insurance, your staff was helpful, friendly and I felt very safe. Jackie was particularly friendly and lovely to deal with. Thanks for wonderful service in such odd times. Being able to make an appointment was so helpful as well.

We were very impressed with your service. The agent was delightful, knowledgeable and very sweet. Thank you.

I’m sorry that I missed the young ladies name who I met with but her service was EXCELLENT! Fast, friendly, efficient with a great sense of humour (much needed in these times). I also felt completely safe. Thanks so much for your help in renewing my car insurance. I highly recommend Megson to all my friends and family……always. Keep up the great work!

Yesterday [June 18, 2020], I had the delightful experience to (remotely) renew my auto insurance with Hayley Zedel. She was most helpful in her kind and knowledgeable manner. Your company is very fortunate to have her as a very thoughtful and pleasant staff member.

Very helpful. They take the time to answer all your questions. Highly recommended. You might be on hold for a while during this COVID situation, but they’re very helpful once they answer your call. Call to see if they’re able to register new plates, they have been working towards being able to do this for you.

I am new to BC, with that being said the insurance is so different here. They went through everything in detail with me and made me feel a little more comfortable understanding insurance here. Thank you for that.

Have dealt with MFI on several occasions recently and have been very satisfied with my experience. Kim Tucson has been extremely helpful and professional. Many thanks.

We’ve dealt with Megson FitzPatrick for home insurance for several years. We’ve always experienced prompt service and the agents are very knowledgeable and helpful.

I would like to take this time to acknowledge Sheila Ciesek for her excellent customer service. She was very friendly, polite and professional and helped me insure 4 trucks. I called into today to insure a trailer and was lucky enough to get her again. She is the reason we will do our truck and trailer insurance with your company. As an office manager for a small company, I appreciate people like her with her skill set. She is an asset to your company and I hope we still have the option of doing the insuring over the phone.

The multiple Megson Fitzpatrick locations across the city make obtaining insurance easy. But my preference for the company goes beyond that simple convenience. Time again, my experience with the staff is top-notch. They are knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely enjoy a good conversation. Everytime I enter and exit a Megson Fitzpatrick store, it’s all smiles.

I am writing to give credit to Cassie at the Uptown location for her tremendous and efficient service last month. I was on a tight timeline, and needed to re-insure two vehicles, and change a policy significantly, and was feeling stressed. Cassie quickly took care of everything, answered all of my questions, and was courteous as all get out. Thanks, Cassie!

Do you need medical travel insurance in BC?

Yes, you need to purchase medical travel insurance if you are a British Columbian travelling outside of the province, even if you are only going to another part of Canada. This is because the British Columbia Medical Services Plan (MSP) does not cover medical expenses outside of the province.

There are many different travel insurance providers available, so it is important to compare plans before you buy. Some things to consider when comparing plans include:

  • The level of coverage: Make sure the plan covers all of your medical expenses, including emergency hospitalization, doctor's visits and prescription drugs.
  • The deductible: The deductible is the amount of money you will have to pay out of pocket before the insurance company starts paying.
  • The maximum benefit: The maximum benefit is the total amount of money the insurance company will pay for your medical expenses.
  • The waiting period: Some plans have a waiting period, which is the amount of time you have to wait before the insurance company starts paying for your medical expenses.
  • The exclusions: Make sure you understand the exclusions, which are the types of medical expenses that are not covered by the plan.

  • Cancelling or postponing a trip due to a non-medical reason
  • Lost or stolen passports or travel documents
  • Trip interruption due to weather or other events
