The old continent has more than a couple of jewels famous among avid travelers . However, the travel experience isn’t just about the gorgeous destinations. Travel agents play a crucial role here as they promote destinations while, at the same time, catering to the specific needs of their clients . And, yet, it appears that there is no room for them under the spotlight.

It’s essential to recognize the key players in the travel sector in the European Union. Plus, pointing travelers in the right direction can help them have even more memorable experiences while traveling the Schengen zone.

Since there is no comprehensive list of travel agents in Europe, we’ve decided to build one from scratch. Here are the 28 noteworthy travel agents in Europe.

5 Top Tour Operators to Book on Your Next Trip to Europe

Keep the trip-planning process hassle-free with top-rated tour operators across the pond.

Guide explaining to tourists the Coliseum of Rome

A reputable tour operator can help minimize headaches and maximize value.

Europe offers a treasure trove of museums, archeological sites and historic monuments. But, unless you're an art historian or medieval scholar, in order to fully appreciate these cherished attractions – and make the most of your limited vacation time – you'll want to book day tours with local tour operators. Reserving tours with a reputable tour company can ensure a richer (and more stress-free) experience, especially when traveling with kids in tow. Plus, booking reservations with a trusted guide far in advance can not only ensure availability but can also help you secure discounts and maximize savings. Here's who to go with on your next trip across the pond.

Fat Tire Tours

This English-speaking, British-headquartered tour operator has branches in Paris, Berlin, Barcelona and London, and offers 'skip the line' tours for major tourist attractions as well as unique city tours by bike. Opting for the latter and exploring iconic sights such as the Eiffel Tower  and the Tuileries Gardens from behind handlebars holds more appeal for kids than walking and makes for a more memorable and pleasant experience. Apart from benefitting from a knowledgeable guide as you navigate the city by bike, you'll also have the added element of keeping teens and preteens enthralled. Book a Fat Tire Tour online in advance of your trip, as the operator is very popular, but also look for deals offered by the company after your tour. There are often discounts available for booking second tours, and given the variety of offerings in each city, families could easily spend another day exploring with the Fat Tire crew.

Overome

Focused solely on the Eternal City , Overome is a highly specialized tour company that offers small group and private tours at major Roman sites, such as the Vatican and Colosseum. While Overome primarily covers the can't-miss points of interest across Rome, their greatest strength lies in their tour guides. Their reputable guides are known for their enthusiasm and friendly demeanors, which help make it easy for families to unwind and enjoy in-depth tours of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, without hordes of tourists at their side during prime visiting seasons. In a city known for crushing crowds at tourist attractions, having a guided tour with a small group can easily transform your trip from stressful and hassle-prone to headache-free.

Viator tours are offered in multiple countries across Europe and beyond, making this tour company the most expansive on this list. Travelers booking a tour through Viator can look forward to a range of offerings from daytrips from Paris to Normandy or Mont Saint-Michel to tours of Belgian Christmas markets to walks through Turkish bazaars . How does Viator offer such an extensive list of tours? They act as a middleman, pairing travelers in need of tours with local tour operations in European cities. First, travelers book the tour of their choice through Viator. Then, a subsequent email confirmation lists the local meeting point for the tour and includes information on the local tour company used. While Viator users do have to deal with two companies rather than one, they can count on the process to be streamlined and user-friendly. Best of all, Viator rigorously vets their local operators, so travelers don't have to worry about whether they're in good hands.

Walks of Italy

With tours offered in Venice, Rome, Florence, Pompeii, Tuscany, Milan and the Almalfi Coast, Walks of Italy is a standout pick for specialty tours across Italy. The company is known to tap visitors into the local culture with treks to off-the-beaten-path sites and hidden gems across the country. In other words, after you've seen the major landmarks, or think you know all there is to know about an Italian destination, take a Walks of Italy tour to discover lesser-known places. Their Rome as a Local Tour takes visitors across the city and into the suburbs to hit all the attractions guidebooks tend to gloss over, from chariot tracks on the Appian Way to aqueducts to the secret keyhole to St. Peter's Basilica. As your Walks of Italy tour guide takes you to less-trodden local points of interest, you're bound to feel more like an insider than a tourist.

Brit Movie Tours

Offering a fun way to explore London and the United Kingdom, Brit Movie Tours specializes – as you may have guessed – in movie locations for fans of series shown on both the big and small screen. Families will be most interested in their Harry Potter tour, which takes fans across the capital for three hours via motor coach to locations such as Kings Cross station and 12 Grimmauld Place, but there are also tours for fans of Doctor Who, the Beatles, Sherlock and more. Tours range in size, so look closely at tour descriptions. Also, consider private tours if a top priority is exploring top locations without heavy crowds.

Before You Book

All the tour operators on this list specialize in half-day and full-day tours in major European cities and all companies offer both small and large group tour sizes, ranging in price from approximately 30-200 euros per person. When possible, book your reservations in advance and opt for a small group size of 10 or fewer participants for the most value.

The Best European Tour Companies To Discover Europe With!

Expert travel storyteller Jordan Adkins, founder of InspiredByMaps.com, brings a decade of adventures across 101 countries and 450+ UNESCO sites into rich, off-the-beaten-path narratives, melding ecological expertise with genuine, seasoned travel insights. His full bio can be found here.

Ah, Europe. A magical and diverse continent jam-packed with fascinating cities, stunning scenery and enough art and delicious food to satisfy even the most cultural foodie.

Whether it’s the buzzing nightlife and incredible history of Berlin, the incredible new Nordic dining of Copenhagen,   the placid lakes of Slovenia or the sun-baked Mediterranean coast, there’s an amazing amount to discover. Rugged Scottish Highlands , Renaissance art in Italy, ancient monuments of Rome, Indonesian rijstaffel in Amsterdam, the Imperial Cafes of Vienna – we could go on (and on, and on).

So with such a rich choice, how are you even going to start? Planning a trip can be really stressful and the stress only increases the more options you have. That’s why going on a tour is one of the best traveling choices you can make to really discover Europe.

Although tours get a bad rep, they’re actually one of the best ways to help you get to know a place more – with local guides taking you places you wouldn’t have found on your own, you get a much deeper understanding of the countries. Not to mention the fact that they remove all of the pressure of planning.

But this brings us back to that same challenge of choice – how do you choose your tour operator? It’s vital not to go with a wild card operator, someone you don’t know and can’t trust. Have a look at some of the best European tour companies, each focused on different areas to suit every traveler.

G Adventures

Intrepid tours, avalon waterways.

This is one of the most established tour companies in Europe and has been delivering interesting, varied, and affordable tours since 1947. That’s basically when tours as we know them appeared, so Trafalgar was always at the forefront of travel!

It’s a great way to meet like-minded travelers who really love getting to the heart of a place, enjoying cultural experiences, and visiting unique places. The accommodation is always great (no hostels here!) and the perks include queue skipping and private access. Participants get to go beyond the big-name sights to learn how to cook in Italy or tour farms in France.

With such a premier reputation, it won’t come as a surprise that Trafalgar is particularly popular among the older crowd with what might be called a ‘classic touch’. This doesn’t mean it’s slow, or dull, simply that you’ll spend more time chatting with people and getting to know a place through the locals, rather than bungee jumping off mountains. Another plus is the cost – Trafalgar specializing in offering tours great for those on a budget.

European tours include things like ‘Best of’ country tours, ‘Great Italian Cities’, ‘Spanish Wonder Summer’ and ‘Traditional Europe’. Their experience and expertise is evident at each stage and you’ll discover more than you ever expected.

As the name might suggest, G Adventures is one of the best European tour companies for its fun sense of adventure in all the tours it runs. It helps that it was established by a traveler at heart, Bruce Poon Tip, who got the idea after backpacking in Asia.

It’s always said that the focus was not on helping with holidays, but on “changing people’s lives” and that ethos lives on. Going on one of these tours means you won’t just see things; you’ll experience them. You use local transport (pack light!), eat at locally-owned restaurants and generally get to the core of the places you go. There’s an emphasis on s ustainable travel practices that we can definitely get on board with.

Choose from a range of tours, from Classic to Active to YOLO. With such a variety of options, G Adventures can suit all kinds of travelers, although their original target market is still strong – people who don’t want to play it too safe, don’t want their experience airbrushed, and like to take risks. The tours are usually quite active but the company are moving away from their traditional 18 to 39 age range.

Whoever’s on the tour with you, you know they’ll be up for a laugh and keen on authentic experiences – just like you! We love the ‘London to the Mediterranean on a Shoestring’ and ‘Discover Moorish Spain’ tours, but these are just a couple on a long list.

If you’re bored of going to cities, traipsing around museums and then never finding the best nightlife, then a Contiki tour is perfect for you. It specialises in providing lifelong travel memories for people between the ages of 18 and 35 – young, adventurous people who want to have a lot of fun while exploring new places.

It’s all about spontaneity on a Contiki trip, not lengthy itineraries planned down to the last second. There are loads of different concepts to the trips, from ‘High Energy’, which does what it says on the tin, to ‘In Depth Explorer’ if you like cultural travel, to multi-country ‘Discover’ tours which always have a wide mix of activities and destinations. You can camp, ski, head to festivals or cruise; whatever floats your boat, really.

Contiki is a bit of a by-word for party tours now and it’s definitely for people who want to have fun both day and night. They say that 50% of their travellers are going solo and everyone expects to make friends and socialise. It’s not all tequila body shots, we promise, but whether you’re nearer the 18 or 35 end of the age range you’ll definitely need a lot of energy!

In Europe you can choose from Greek Island Hopping, a Berlin to Budapest trip or even a short city break like Christmas in Amsterdam, or many more. Whatever you go for, you’re guaranteed a memorable time.

You might have already guessed this from the name, but Intrepid Tours is definitely one of the best European tour companies if you’re looking for fearless adventuring (in a supported context, of course!). Its brand is all about ‘real-life experiences, so expect big detours from the beaten track!

As most tours have a maximum of 10 participants, you’ve got a lot more chance to get close to the local culture and way of life than you would with massive groups in coaches. You’ll use public transport and stay at independently run accommodation, all with plenty of free time. Be warned: if you like things to be super-planned, steer clear!

There are no official age limitations although the average travellers are aged between 18 and 45. What is differentiated is the level of comfort (or the cost, depending on how you want to look at it!). There is a choice of ‘Basix’ tours for those of us on a shoestring, ‘Original’ with a bit more on offer and ‘Comfort’ for the highest level of activities and accommodation.

We love the idea of the ‘Iceland Discovery’ tour for something truly different, or Dubrovnik to Athens for some of the Mediterranean’s most gorgeously rugged coast.

Love the idea of all these fascinating tours but have no idea how you would ever pay for one of them? Enter BusAbout , a wallet-friendly tour company that wants to help adventure-hungry travellers experience as much as they can without breaking the bank.

There’s a wide-ranging bus network that allows travellers to ‘hop on’ and ‘hop off’ flexibly and independently. They might not be business class but they’re comfortable enough and you can watch movies or use the Wi-Fi. The drivers and guides are always keen travellers and happy to share what they know about the countries you’re going around.

It’s the perfect way to maintain your independence while learning more about places and getting to know other like-minded people on the journey. It’s also pretty ideal if you’re not a fan of flying!

From the super-budget, to the super luxe, Avalon Waterways is one of the best European tour companies for high-end cruises and sheer relaxation. You can enjoy all the beauty this continent has to offer and you don’t even have to leave the boat if you don’t want to!

There’s something incredibly peaceful about gliding along the majestic rivers of Austria and Switzerland , France , Germany , Italy or more; drinking in the scenery, you can enjoy all the extra touches onboard one of these sophisticated boats. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the suits means passengers can open their rooms up to the outdoors and the food is delicious.

Yes, it’s pricey, but the great thing is that so much is already included, so once you’re on board you don’t need to worry about hidden costs – entry to must-see sites, for example, or alcohol with your meal. It’s mainly for the over-50s, although anyone will enjoy the romance and indulgence of the water.

One of our favorite European rivers to explore is the magnificent Danube, especially as it travels through a variety of destinations, but there’s something to discover on all of them.

With our full work and family schedule, planning our much-desired trip to Greece was not going to fit into our timeframe. Zicasso and the team at the travel company were the best! Our agent listened to our needs and desires for the trip – experience and adventure throughout Greece. He updated and made the changes we suggested. We ended up with a wonderful 10-day trip from Athens to Nafplio and Paros. We hiked, experienced history, enjoyed wonderful local foods and shops, kayaked, snorkeled, froze under a mountain waterfall, and saw the clearest, bluest lakes ever. One of the highlights was during a hiking/water day when we had an incredible lunch at a local woman's home in the mountain area. The food was beautifully prepared, the conversation enjoyable, and the property idyllic. Once we headed to the island of Paros, which we highly recommend due to fewer crowds and wonderful restaurants and shopping, we topped off one evening with a 6.5km cultural hike along the Byzantine highway, learning why the homes are abandoned and whitewashed, and there are more than 20 varieties of wild, medicinal herbs, as well as learning the history of battles throughout the regions. If you haven't visited Greece, this travel company will create the ideal itinerary for your time there. I recommend visits to Athens, Nafplio, and Paros. Bring your walking and water shoes, and let them take care of everything else.

The trip was thoughtfully planned by Zicasso's travel team to meet our needs and expectations. The main problem I had was luggage handling: into and out of hotels, on and off trains, into airports. The drivers could not always bring the luggage to these places for us. I am getting too old and am not strong enough to handle the luggage myself. That needs to be worked out in planning a trip. We had excellent guides, for the most part. They were very knowledgeable about the areas in which they guided us. Several joined us for a meal after we toured a site and we found them to be good company. Our guide for the Alhambra seemed to be having an allergic reaction the day of our visit and kept sneezing, to the point that she did not seem to feel well. She really rushed us through the palace, which was very crowded. I tried to slow her down, especially when I found my balance being threatened by the crowded conditions. She seemed impatient with my problem. I also found her English more difficult to understand than that of other guides. She declined to join us for lunch and got the heck out of there as fast as she could. The drivers were almost always easy to locate and good-natured. Mostly, we were just with them to get from point A (our hotel, a train station) to B. Occasionally, the driver spent the day with us and those who did were delightful.

Our trip to Madrid, Seville, and Malaga was exceptional. The Zicasso travel agency planned every detail perfectly. The hotels, guides, and drivers were all excellent. We had to make a change to our itinerary due to illness one day and having a local contact in Spain helped everything to run smoothly. I would use them again and recommend them to all.

Zicasso’s travel company was outstanding. I highly recommend our travel agent. She listened to our ideas and provided good ones of her own based on her wealth of experience living and traveling in Italy. Every tour she planned was educational and enjoyable. The drivers she reserved for us were safe and drove comfortable cars. We especially appreciated having the train and tour tickets all purchased ahead of time and the car rental and hotels prepaid. Our agent even checked us in ahead of time for the one train that required check-in. She also found perfect, well-run hotels and inns for us, located within five to 10 minutes of restaurants. We would use our agent again in a heartbeat.

Everything about our trip was close to perfect in regard to the planning and execution of our travel plan. We took a leap of faith in using Zicasso after reading other positive reviews and are happy we made that decision. Our planner did an exceptional job of listening to our interests, age, and lifestyle, then planning our trip. After the initial plan was proposed, we tweaked a few things and it worked out perfectly. During the trip, he promptly answered a few of my questions about tipping and changes to times of one or two tours. I offered feedback on a few of our experiences and he was genuinely interested. He was exceptional! The two hotels were five-star and in great areas. Every driver and tour was prompt and the drivers and guides courteous. And the price was more reasonable when compared to comparable tours offered by "traditional" travel companies.

Zicasso’s tour company attended to every detail of our trip to Italy with evident care and consideration based on our pre-travel discussions. The accommodations, travel arrangements, and, most importantly, the transfers from trains/planes/boats to the places we needed to be were without a hitch. We could not have asked for better, and frankly, it was much better than we anticipated. Our guides were excellent and truly enhanced our experience by relating history and experiences from their native experience.

From start to finish, our travel agency was exceptional, efficient, timely, and very thoughtful. When an unanticipated glitch popped up, the travel team was quick to help problem-solve with kindness and expertise, resulting in an even better trip. We would recommend them to all our friends and family for a once-in-a-lifetime trip!

This year's World's Best Awards survey was open for voting January 11 through May 10, 2021, as destinations around the world were lifting COVID-19 restrictions. Survey rules have always allowed readers to reflect on their travel experiences over a three-year period. We hope that this year's honorees will inspire your own travels as you get back out into the world.

Linking up with the right tour operator can take an amazing trip and turn it into a trip of a lifetime . This might seem like magic, but their in-the-know expertise and long-standing relationships open the doors for the seemingly impossible — a private Jeep safari with a professional tracking team in the depths of Torres del Paine or one-on-one cooking classes from a chef that runs a Michelin-starred restaurant in the south of France. And if any group has traversed the world enough to discern the best tour operators out there, it's the readers of Travel + Leisure .

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities.

The companies that made the list have the skills and connections to create itineraries that reflect their clients' personal interests. No. 3 VBT Bicycling Vacations curates two-wheeled trips all over the globe . One reader said, "Their staff make all the difference." No. 2 Mountain Lodges of Peru puts together highly personalized trekking adventures to Machu Picchu. As another reader exclaimed, "This is the way to visit Machu Picchu!"

But at the top of the list is Quasar Expeditions. Though primarily known for its cruises (the company won the small-ship ocean cruises category this year), it also operates a roster of dynamic safari-style excursions in South America. Read on to find out what sets it apart and which other companies join it on this year's list of the best tour operators in the world.

1. Quasar Expeditions

Quasar Expeditions is for adventurers. The highly specialized itineraries are designed to make guests feel like they're James Cook or Charles Darwin. "Quasar Expeditions' guides are the ultimate, passionate gatekeepers to the Galápagos Islands," one reader said. "Their enthusiasm and love of the islands and the wildlife encourages you to share in their passion and desire to conserve the natural beauty and habitat of the area while still allowing low-impact tourism." Another raved, "Excellent isn't a high enough rating to describe our experience with Quasar Expeditions. Extraordinary in every way!" And while Quasar is best known for its Galápagos trips, it gets high marks for its Patagonia itineraries, which takes guests into the best parts of Chile's Torres del Paine and Argentina's Los Glaciares — two of South America's most spectacular national parks.

Eurohike

  • Good - 13 reviews for Germany tours
Highly recommend this trip. The days can be long but the views are worth it. Most of the route is paved so you can probably get away with hiking shoes or trail running shoes. There is luggage transfer available but I didn't need it. The route from Unken to Waidring could be updated but I was able to find an alternate route with the map. Before you start you're given the full itinerary with a navigation system on the app as well as paper copies of everything.
We were on the road with Eurohike from Garmisch to Meran and the indicated daily kilometers often do not correspond to the actual kilometers. There were no correct directions to the hotel for an overnight stay. However, we found the return transfer completely wrong. The hotel was outside Merano, so we needed a cab to get to the meeting point mentioned by Eurohike, as there was no public transport. Onward journey in Bolzano with a 1 1/2 hour wait away from the bus terminal. Unfortunately, Eurohike is often inaccurate which leads to additional costs, waiting times and annoyance. Conclusion: The quality of the organization and the data provided are disproportionate to the price of the trip. M. Wagner

Trafalgar

  • Excellent - 1,967 reviews for Germany tours
The tour director Maria was great
We had a wonderful time on this trip! So much to see in 3 weeks. Our tour guide Bernie McCarthy was EXCELLANT! As well as our bus driver Donalto. Bernie was so informative with history facts about the areas we were travelling through. I couldn’t write fast enough in my book! The hotels, meals, local tour guides were way beyond than what we expected. So organized, efficient and overall perfect. We are already planning our next Trafalgar trip!

Cosmos

  • Excellent - 19,703 reviews for Germany tours
The itinerary was organised, but hotels were too far away after the last sight to see. Our guide was lovely & tried to help with any questions we had, but at times hard to hear her on the bus.
I had expected more from this tour for the price paid. Hotels were not to a standard you'd expect for this price, many with no air conditioning and those that did, didn't work properly. I would not recommend this tour. Only that the tour guide and driver were excellent at their jobs, this rating would be a lot worse.

Euroadventures

Euroadventures

The tour company should allow the travelers use the bathroom before the trip, instead of directing them to use outside facilities just before the tour started. Maybe just grant one that request.
The Euro Adventures team did a fantastic job with organising accommodation and where able to help me with extra accommodation prior to the tour date as I was arriving early. Also great communication before, during and post the tour date. The detailed information sent via email for Octoberfest was really useful also the instructions and tips for getting to and from the accommodation was really helpful.

Really enjoyed this tour. It was exactly what we were looking for, the independence to do what we wanted on some days and some tours organised for us on other days. Communication from Tour radar was great through What’s App. The only thing we would change would be to upgrade the two 3 star motels to 4 star motels.
I paid for a daily excursion and the tour guide did not show up. The rest of the tour was ok.

Crucemundo

  • Excellent - 374 reviews for Germany tours
The Rhine River cruise met and exceeded expectations. The crew and staff of the Crucevita were outstanding, from cruise director to dining room service, quality of meals and cabin steward. We would gladly cruise with Crucemundo again.
Amazing first experience of a river cruise. The staff, the boat, the rooms, the food and the tours from the ship were all excellent. We would recommend to anyone and look f forward to our next opportunity to cruise again!

It was OK. Hour long local tours is not enough Accommodations were fine, not all centrally located. No restaurant recommendations from tour guide
There was the largest December snow in 90 years just before we a. It made getting there a little difficult but well worth it! Our carriage ride was magical. Greg made it even more special. He was so attentive to everyone’s needs and abilities. Never rushing anyone. Not to mention his surprises every time we got back on the bus. Starting each day with “Louie Armstrongs it’s a wonderful world. We all would sing along. We became friends instantly and felt like family within just a few days together. I highly recommend Greg as a tour guide he really added to the experience. The atmosphere he created by showing us all how much he truly cared for each of us. He is an exceptional person and I for one feel that the trip would have not been the same without him!!!!!

Wunderschöne Tour. Wir sind die Tour bis Salzburg gefahren. Von Anfang bis Ende tolle Radwege und sehr schöne Landschaft. Mit der Eurobike App wird der Weg super leicht navigiert. Super Service vom gesamten Eurobike-Team. Viele Sehenswürdigkeiten auf der Strecke. Ich kann die Tour nur weiterempfehlen.
Setting up the tour, and the tour itself were wonderful. We had a few glitches in our plans and Paula was a great help in getting them worked out. Hotels were very good and clean, food at the hotels, excellent! That said, the bikes were NOT. Even though they were brand new, and the gearing great for what they were. However, we did this tour under our own power, no electric bikes, and were told that hybrid bikes were not available for this tour, also told we weren’t allowed to use clip-in pedals. The bikes were heavy, and we found ourselves walking and pushing them up many hills, some rocky and gravel roads, which, if we would have had a decent bike for this tour, a hybrid bike, we would most likely had an easier time of it. Not happy about the bikes! Also, the opening page of the tour says 1-99 as in years old of people that could do this tour, definitely false advertising, there is no way, even with the electric bikes, that some people could not navigate the roads on this tour. We are 2 women in our 70’s and did it, I am proud to say, we have a lot of experience, it was not easy. It could have been much more enjoyable with a different bike. Over all, a fantastic trip. Thank you.

Indus Travels

Indus Travels

  • Excellent - 264 reviews for Germany tours
Tour was OK. Sites great, organization seriously lacking. Indus communication was horrible. Can't get a prompt response from any questions by phone or email but I get daily marketing emails from them instead.
Marvelous Germany chose some excellent sites in both Germany and France. The hotels were good overall, especially the historic hotel in Füssen. Unfortunately, communication from Indus was extremely poor. Instead of sending us complete itinerary information well in advance, it came the same week of departure (after multiple requests by phone and email that were never followed up by Indus) and that required us to create an account and log into their website to retrieve it ourselves. Buried in the fine print was the name of our German tour guide from a different company ... and Indus got his name incorrect. We were not even given a specific time to meet the guide. Shuttles to and from connecting airports were nonexistent, we relied on public transportation. There was a mix-up with hotel rooms on the first day, apparently Indus was unclear about who was in which room and who reserved single bed versus double bed accommodations. On the first evening, the German guide did nothing but check off names and hand out hotel room keys. He didn't provide any information or guided tour of Frankfurt at all. Our guide was knowlegable but not very communicative. Two older women on the tour with hearing aids couldn't hear most of what he mumbled. The problem wasn't the language, it was as though he didn't have any material prepared to tell us and did not attempt to read his audience to ensure everyone got the message. We all had to ask questions constantly to get anything out of him. During the farm visit & cheese tasting, our guide attempted to translate what the farmer explained in German. It was very clear that the farmer was explaining everything is significantly more detail than our guide gave us. More than once he got it wrong and the _farmer_ corrected our guide's translation. Our guide's navigation, driving skill, and narration were all very below average. We were not on a large motor coach, this was a full size van similar in size to typical bloated American vehicles. On multiple occasions he stopped in the middle of intersections, cut off other vehicles, drove around in circles, missed the correct turn, used turn signals inconsistently, and nearly took out a biker. This appeared to be not due to aggressive driving behavior but rather due to indecision. It looked like our guide had no pre-prepared route plan or parking plan. At many destinations instead of parking at the obvious convenient parking garage and leading a walking tour with a proper discussion, he'd drop the whole group off and let us explore on our own for only a very short time. Why he couldn't park the van and walk with us was a mystery. While the group itself was able to manage, this WAS NOT advertised as a self-guided tour. At Neuschweinstein, our guide made us pay for a public bus -- why was that not included in the tour???? Thank goodness our group had enough local currency on hand to buy tickets. It's simply cheap of the tour company to not pay for convenient local parking and transportation throughout. Meals also felt unplanned. While the tour advertised that several meals were included, it turned out that these were all hotel breakfasts, which were all quite good. We soon learned it was best to have a very hearty breakfast because we never knew where and when lunch might occur. Many days while the guide was "parking" and leaving us to fend for ourselves, we had to find our own restaurant and attempt to eat quickly (not an easy feat in Germany where meals are normally taken at a very casual pace). This subtracted substantially from the time we would have liked to tour the towns. Our guide generally did drop the group off at or near the pedestrian centre of a town where there were options but he clearly did not have specific recommendations, nor did he seem to read the audience to know our dining preferences. In general, he did not express any interest in joining the group for dinners so that too was for us to figure out on our own. On the last day, it felt as though the guide couldn't wait to drop us off as soon as possible at our last hotel and disappear. Biggest complaint of all: we did not feel comfortable that the tour guide lost/broke his mobile phone in the middle of the tour and left us no way to contact him. We asked him several times, and he had many opportunities to buy a replacement. He simply didn't. If any serious incident happened when he was AWOL, we would not know who to contact or how. In summary, Germany is a beautiful place with many interesting historical and cultural things to discover. The big cities were less relaxing with traffic and construction and higher prices but that was to be expected. The small towns, castles, beautiful river valleys and Schwartzwald made up for that. If we would change anything in the itinerary, it would be more coordination and efficient guide to have time to enjoy the small towns. We had a great time with our new friends in the group and would travel with them again anytime. Unfortunately, both Indus and their outsourced local guide company were very underwhelming. With better professionalism and attention to detail, the trip would have been great.

Poor communication from the agents. Too many layers of agents. Go direct I say. Once travelling it was fine. A few long rides (70 and 60 kms) that could have been shorter. The ride into Linz was tough but doable - they are upgrading the bike track. Hotel choices were great.
We really enjoyed the hikes that Bob took us on. Bob, made it very enjoyable and he picked the hikes that would be perfect for the group.

A lot of places were visited in a short amount of time. I think the tours could be more customer friendly by beginning the tours in the afternoon or evening and ending the tours in the morning. I know they would cost more, but it would be well worth it. Beginning at 8:30 am and ending at 4:30 pm doesn't cut it. A real inconvenience to have to book a night before and after.

WiseYatra

  • Excellent - 45 reviews for Germany tours
The itinerary was well planned and spelled all the details of yhe tour from the time we arrived until we finished. Information on getting to locations was clear and understandable. Vouchers for hotel and transportation were provided as well as information regarding how to redeem them. We had opportunities to visit the recommended as well as places we had read about or were suggested by friends and coworkers who had either visited areas or knew our interests.
The itinerary was very informative and thorough. It related what to expect from hotel room side to explaining transportation and how to arrive ahead of time for tours.

Michael O'Leary of Ryanair

Ryanair passenger numbers pass 20m a month amid 5% fall in fares

Shares rise despite a drop in carrier’s revenues, which Michael O’Leary says will last until spring 2025

Ryanair said it has reaped strong traffic growth after a summer when the airline’s fares were down 5% and passenger numbers passed 20 million a month.

Shares in Europe’s biggest carrier rose on Tuesday, after the group chief executive, Michael O’Leary, revised previous gloomier predictions of a double-digit drop in peak-season fare income, although he said the dent in revenues would probably last until spring 2025.

“Pricing was not quite as bad as we had feared at the start of the summer – it looks down 5%, we thought there was a risk it could be higher,” O’Leary said.

“Passenger numbers are strong, we’re just about on track to hit 200 million for the full year … It could have been worse. Passengers are getting slightly lower fares, but we’re being rewarded with significant traffic growth.”

O’Leary called on the Labour government to review air passenger duty (APD), claiming that Ryanair would expand faster in the UK without the departure tax, which costs £13 for a short-haul European flight or £7 for a domestic flight.

He said: “Taking them at their word, they want to deliver growth. One of the industries where they can deliver dramatic, pretty rapid growth would be aviation or tourism. The impediment there is APD.”

He said the government should also demand urgent reform of air traffic control (ATC) services, expressing frustration at increasing delays from airspace constraints in the UK and EU .

According to Canso, the body representing ATC services in Europe and the UK, a combination of ever more flights, the closure of Ukrainian and Russian airspace, extreme weather and staffing problems have posed “significant challenges”. Simon Hocquard, its director general, also blamed “financial constraints” as EU regulators have sought to limit charges on airlines for ATC services, which he said was “a false economy”.

O’Leary said: “They hide behind weather – it’s not the issue here. You will have occasional thunderstorms, but there’s no weather issues affecting the first wave of takeoffs. Historically, we would have about 5% of our flights delayed on the first wave; this year, routinely, it’s been 20%. And all that is down to staffing shortages, not any other bullshit excuses.”

The airline has launched a website called “ATC ruined our holiday” to encourage delayed passengers to complain directly to the European Commission.

O’Leary described the EU’s imminent entry-exit system (EES), which will introduce increased border checks from this autumn, as a “retrograde step”. He said Ryanair was campaigning in the EU against the enhanced biometric checks and Etias, the €7 visa waiver that is likely to be introduced next year.

after newsletter promotion

He said: “Making it harder for UK citizens to come to Europe is not the way to respond to Brexit. This idea that you’re going to have electronic fingerprinting of UK passengers or charging €7 for a visa is just antagonising people.

“Brexit has already been an economic disaster. Most people have buyer’s remorse over here anyway, and the Europeans should be encouraging the new Labour government to sign up to a trade agreement with the EU. We don’t think the airports are prepared, they don’t have to be, it’s just the UK passengers stuck in longer queues on arrival.”

Ryanair announced that four new European routes from London Stansted would start operating this winter, to Dubrovnik, Linz, Reggio and Sarajevo.
