Hong kong entry requirements.

Travelers from any region bound for Hong Kong will no longer need to take pre-flight COVID-19 tests (no PCR test, no RAT test) from April 1.

There is also no need for any tests when traveling from Hong Kong to the Chinese Mainland. Hong Kong could be a good gateway for your China trip. See suggestions on China Itineraries from Hong Kong (from 1 Week to 3 Weeks).

Macau Entry Requirement

From August 30, travelers from any region bound for Macau will no longer need to take pre-flight COVID-19 tests (no PCR test, no RAT test).

There is also no need for any tests when traveling from Macau to the Chinese Mainland.

Inbound and outbound international flights in the week beginning March 6th rose by more than 350% compared with a year earlier, to nearly 2,500 flights, according to Chinese flight tracking data from APP Flight Master.

At present, there are one or two direct flights a week from New York to Shanghai, Los Angeles to Beijing, Seattle to Shanghai, London to Guangzhou, etc.

There are also many flight options with stopovers that are more frequent and affordable. Testing at transit airports is now not required!

The Coronavirus outbreak in China has subsided. China looks like it did in 2019 again. No special measures (like PCR tests or health codes) are required when traveling around China. All attractions are open as normal.

Wearing a mask is not mandatory when traveling. In hotels, masks are off for the most part. But in some crowded places, such as airports or subway stations, many people still wear masks.

Weather-wise, the best times to visit China are spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October), when most of the popular places have their most tourism-friendly weather, except for the "golden weeks" — the first week of May and of October — when most attractions are flooded with Chinese tourists.

If you are looking for smaller crowds, favorable prices, and still good weather, you should consider March and April or September.

Tourism in cultural and historical destinations like Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi'an is hardly affected by weather conditions. They are suitable to be visited all year round.

Thailand and China Set for Visa Waivers from March 1

On Sunday, 28 January 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand, an agreement for mutual visa exemption was signed between China and Thailand.

Effective March 1, 2024, the signing of this visa waiver aligns with the current trend of visa exemption agreements between China and various Southeast Asian nations.

The deal is hoped to promote both Thai and Chinese tourism, as well as strengthen relations between the two nations.

As per the agreement terms, Thai citizens with valid, ordinary passports and Chinese citizens with valid public affairs and ordinary passports will be exempt from visa requirements for entry, exit, or transit through the respective country for a maximum of 30 days.

Cumulative stays should not surpass 90 days within any 180 days, unless for specific purposes like residence, employment, study, or media activities, which necessitate prior official approval. Should you wish to secure insurance before your trip, we strongly advise contacting AXA Insurance , the premier provider of travel health insurance in Thailand.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is positive about the possibilities brought by the mutual visa-free arrangement. They anticipate around 8 million Chinese visitors this year, projecting an estimated revenue of about 320 billion baht from their spending.

Chinese tourists, who were the main group of visitors before the pandemic, are considered crucial for the ongoing recovery of the tourism sector, a key driver of Thailand’s economic growth.

In 2019, mainland China accounted for approximately 27% of the 40 million foreign visitors. However, last year saw a decline, with only 3.5 million Chinese tourists out of a total of 28 million visitors. Malaysia took the lead as the largest visitor market, with 4.4 million arrivals.

Thailand introduced new entry regulations as China reopens border

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand will require international travelers to show proof they are fully vaccinated for COVID before flying to Thailand, according to the country's aviation regulator, as it prepares for more tourists after China reopened its border on Sunday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) said in a statement on Saturday that starting early Monday, all foreign arrivals starting early on Monday must prove they are vaccinated or provide a letter certifying that they have recovered from COVID within six months.

Unvaccinated travelers must show a medical certificate explaining why they have not received the vaccine.

CAAT said airlines would be responsible for checking documents before passengers board and has released a list of how many doses are required for various types of COVID-19 vaccines on its website.

The new measure will remain in effect at least until the end of January, CAAT said.

The vaccination requirement was scrapped by Thailand last October but has been revived as China reopens its border following the easing of its zero-COVID policy.

The first commercial flight from China to Thailand, Xiamen Airlines flight MF833, will arrive to Bangkok from Xiamen on Monday carrying 286 passengers, government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said on Sunday.

Foreigners traveling to Thailand from a country where a negative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result is a condition for entry are required to show proof of health insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment, the Health Ministry said.

The new entry requirements do not apply to Thai passport holders or passengers transiting through Thailand.
