Dog Sled Tours
Squid Acres Kennel offers a variety of dog mushing activities for a variety of experience levels. We have two locations to choose from. Most of our dog sled tours begin from our Cantwell location, on the picturesque Denali Highway. Our second location is at the Susitna Adventure Lodge, Mile Post 77 on the Denali Highway.
Winter Tours
Join our experienced dog mushing guides one of our Winter Dog Sled Rides or Day Trips, or book a half day Mushing School experience and learn to drive your own team. Take an evening Aurora Sled Ride for a four hour tour to a remote camp. Sit around a cozy campfire with a hot beverage and watch for the northern lights.

A convenient hotel pickup kicks off this fun three-hour tour to the Wolf's Den Kennel, home to Iditarod finisher Mark Santos, his family, and their 60 or so sled dogs. The kennel is in the small outpost of Cantwell. It takes about 30 minutes to drive there, but between your tour guide's narration and the scenery it goes by quickly.
All part of the grand Alaska adventure.
Puppies are there to greet you when you arrive at the kennel. Playful bundles of furry cuteness now, these young Alaskan Huskies will take their turn in the harness in a few years. You'll learn about the raising and training of canine athletes from their experienced handlers, and then see the adult dogs in action during a training run demonstration. From here you'll move inside for a presentation about the Iditarod Sled Dog Race itself. This "Last Great Race on Earth" is the pinnacle of Alaskan sled dog racing, a 1,000-mile fete that's fascinating to learn about from a musher whose done it.
Along with tales from the Iditarod and more time to meet the sled dogs, you'll also get a taste of the Alaska lifestyle in general. Rebuilding the homestead, living in a log cabin without running water, planning out grocery runs over 200 miles away. It's all part of the grand Alaska adventure! The three-hour tour concludes with a return narrated trip to the Denali Park area.
The DogGoneIt Denali Kennel tour starts with a pickup in the Denali Park area and includes about 1.5 hours of narrated transportation and 1.5 hours at the sled dog kennel.
What to Bring
A portion of the tour is conducted outside. Bring a coat or rain jacket and wear comfortable close-toed walking shoes.
Transfers & Meeting Points
The tour operator provides roundtrip narrated transportation from the Grande Denali Lodge, Denali Bluffs, Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge, McKinley Chalet, Denali Park Village, and Grizzly Bear Resort. Drop-offs are made at the same hotels as well as the train depot. The tour does not permit guests to drive their own vehicle due to limited parking.

Buses to the kennels depart 40 minutes before the program (9:20 am) from the Denali Visitor Center bus stop. Allow 1.5 hours total for travel to and from the kennels, the ranger program, and time to meet the dogs.
Description
Denali's most popular ranger program, featuring Alaskan huskies! Visit the historic Sled Dog Kennels to meet and learn about Denali's canine rangers.
Some seating is available for the demonstration, and there is plenty of standing room. No parking is available at the kennels, so please plan on using the Sled Dog Demonstration Shuttle or walking the two miles from the Denali Visitor Center to the kennels via the Roadside Hiking Trail.
