Cruise Ships Set For Return To Trinidad and Tobago

Cruise ships will be returning Trinidad and Tobago soon as the country changes rules for international tourism ahead of the 2022-2023 local season.

According to local news sources, starting on June 1, nationals and non-nationals arriving at the Caribbean nation will only be required to show proof of a negative PCR or antigen test for COVID-19 taken 48 hours before the arrival.

Both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals will be welcomed, a local report says citing government sources.

Who fails to show the negative test results will be asked to go into state-supervised quarantine at their own expanse.

Previously, tourists needed to present a specific travel document for the entry.

Known as TTravelPass, the authorization was issued by the local government and had to be requested in advance. Only fully vaccinated tourists were able to apply for the travel pass.

The move will allow cruise ships to return to Trinidad and Tobago for the 2022-2023, following a two-year-and-a-half year gap.

A popular destination in Southern Caribbean, the country has three major cruise destinations: Charlotteville, Scarborough and Port of Spain.

While the first is mostly visited by small and luxury ships, the other two ports are often part of itineraries of North American and European ships.

Cruise lines with scheduled calls at the nation include Princess Cruises, Silversea Cruises, Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, Marella Cruises, Phoenix Reisen, Oceania Cruises, Seabourn, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and more.

The Rhapsody of the Seas will the most regular visitor to the country during the upcoming cruise season.

Sailing from Barbados, the Royal Caribbean International vessel is offering a special program of Southern Caribbean and Central America itineraries that feature visits to Scarborough and Port of Spain.

In other news, Royal Caribbean has also announced a recruitment drive in the country. The Miami-based cruise line recently signed a deal to hire 2,000 locals as crew aboard company ships .

Trinidad and Tobago Cruise Season 2022-2023

Countdown to cruise season 2022/2023 in trinidad and tobago.

After a two-year hiatus, the Trinidad and Tobago cruise season is expected to commence later this month. Trinidad will welcome its first cruise ship on November 21 st 2022. Tobago will kick start the season one day earlier in Scarborough on November 20 th 2022.

This season will run until April 2023, with Trinidad and Tobago expecting to receive a total of 71 cruise calls. 43 (61%) calls are expected at the Scarborough and Charlotteville ports in Tobago and 28 (39%) at the Cruise Ship Complex in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

A total of 126,962 passengers and 47,570 crew members are expected to visit our twin islands over the next six months.

This cruise season promises to be an exciting one for visitors as the Royal Caribbean cruise line is expected to berth in Port of Spain for 4 nights during our iconic Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2023.  The MSC Seashore, the largest cruise ship to visit the destination with a capacity of 5,877passengers and 4,540 crew, is expected to call at Port of Spain on November 30 th 2022.

Tourism Trinidad marks strong start to cruise-ship season

Tourism Trinidad Ltd recorded over 7,000 visitors from the Ms Insignia, Rhapsody of the Sea and MSC Seashore cruise ships in late November.

It said in a press release on Tuesday that out of this, 5,400 passengers undertook cultural, historical and ecotourism experiences.

Tourism Trinidad Ltd said the visitors were offered activities such as kayaking in the Caroni Swamp, city tours around Port of Spain, stops at Maracas lookout and Maracas Beach, visits to La Vigie lookout at Paramin and cultural shows at Queen’s Hall Garden Theatre.

It said its surveys "yielded much positive feedback from passengers who noted that Trinidad was a beautiful destination, with warm and friendly people and they were looking forward to returning for our advertised, ‘Mother of all Carnivals’ next year.”

Interim CEO Carla Cupid said, “While we are pleased with the positive feedback from our visitors during this first month, we are still mindful that with seven cruise ship calls expected in the month of December and growing interest from other lines, we are always in a mode of continuous improvement and tourism product development.”

It has also included 30 visitor ambassadors who are placed throughout the heart of Port of Spain where visitors will be. The police will also be working with Tourism Trinidad Ltd to ensure the effectiveness of these visitor ambassadors and for visitors' comfort.

Cupid said, “We are grateful for the continued support of the TTPS and the commitment and professionalism of the visitor ambassadors. Many passengers continue to register their appreciation so far with all measures that are in place to make their stay in Trinidad a memorable one.”

Last Wednesday the MSC Seashore, an Italian, family-owned cruise line, announced that Port of Spain will be added to its itinerary, and there will be 34 calls from October 2024-April 2026.

Tourism Trinidad Ltd said any visitor wanting to experience next year’s Carnival can look forward to the Epic Carnival Cruise Experience. This will give visitors the chance to enjoy the Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas for six days and five nights as a floating hotel and entertainment hub.

Port Scarborough cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Scarborough, Tobago. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Scarborough (formerly Port Louis) is the biggest city on Tobago Island, as well as the 5th-most-populous in Trinidad and Tobago. Scarborough City is the cultural and economic center of Tobago. The city has land area approx 46 km2 (18 mi2) and population around 25,000.

For season 2023-2024 (October-April), the country expected ~120,000 cruise ship tourists (~90,000 passengers plus ~30,000 crew) representing an 81% increase over season 2022-23.

The country's other major cruise ports are Port-of-Spain (Trinidad Island) and Charlotteville (Tobago Island) .

The City Skyline of Scarborough is dominated by the 18th-century fortification Fort King George named after King George III which hosts an archaeologic museum. The deepwater harbour of Scarborough was built in 1991, and before that ships had to anchor offshore.

The largest performing art theatre found in the Caribbean is Shaw Park Cultural Complex. In its main hall the facility has a capacity of 5000 +, as well as conference and lecture halls. The City boasts a new Library and Scarborough General Hospital, as well as Victor.E.Bruce financial complex. There are also plans for a new market, indoor sporting complex, a zoo and megamall.

Scarborough became the capital city of Tobago in 1769 when it replaced Georgetown. Under French rule the city was named Port Louis. Scarborough is also the main seat of Tobago House of Assembly, responsible for Tobago's local governance.

A regularly scheduled ferry service links the city with Port of Spain, Trinidad . Just like the rest of Tobago Island, Scarborough is served by Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson International Airport located in Crown Point (13 km / 8 ml from downtown). The city is also served by Claude Noel Highway.

The port's largest cruise ship so far is MSC Fantasia (max capacity 3900 passengers). The liner docked in Scarboroughon March 1, 2018 (9 am - 6 pm), as call port along the 14-day Southern Caribbean cruise (itinerary Feb 17 - March 3) roundtrip from Fort-de-France, Martinique . From here, the ship continued to St Georges, Grenada .

Das spektakuläre Ende von Olympia: Plötzlich fliegt Tom Cruise vom Dach

Zum Ende der Olympischen Sommerspiele 2024 findet IOC-Chef Bach lobende Worte: „Vom Anfang bis zum Ende sensationelle Spiele.“ Das Feuer erlosch in einer Laterne in den Händen von Frankreichs Schwimmheld Marchand.

Paris – Paris hat noch einmal sich selbst und seine Olympischen Spiele gefeiert. Mit der Schlussfeier, die einige dystopische künstlerische Elemente, aber auch viel Starpower aufbot, fiel am Sonntag der Vorhang. IOC-Präsident Thomas Bach erklärte die Sommerspiele der XXXIII. Olympiade um 23.58 Uhr für beendet. Zuvor war der Fokus auch bereits auf die nächsten Sommerspiele 2028 in Los Angeles gewandert, die auch mit Starpower aus dem Showbusiness punkten wollen.

Im Stade de France verfolgten 71.500 Zuschauer die mehr als dreistündige Zeremonie. „Es waren vom Anfang bis zum Ende sensationelle Spiele. Frankreich hat eine wunderbare Bühne bereitet“, meinte Bach, der eine „Kultur des Friedens“ propagierte. Zwischen dem IOC-Chef und Staatspräsident Emmanuel Macron hatte es eine herzliche Umarmung gegeben. „Wir waren in diese Spiele verliebt“, erklärte Organisationschef Tony Estanguet.

Waren die Sommerspiele 2021 in Tokio und die Winterspiele 2022 noch unter dem Einfluss der Corona-Pandemie gestanden, wurde in Paris die Rückkehr eines echten Sportfestes gefeiert. Dem wurde auch bei der Schlussfeier Rechnung getragen. 9000 Athletinnen und Athleten sowie Betreuer waren im Stadion. Zwischenzeitlich stürmten einige davon die Bühne, feierten mit der französischen Band Phoenix, und verließen diese erst nach mehrmaligem Hinweis der Veranstalter.

Zuerst marschierten die Fahnenträger-Duos ein. Für Österreich waren es die Segel-Olympiasieger Lara Vadlau und Lukas Mähr, die ihre Goldmedaillen vom 470er-Bewerb um den Hals trugen. Rund ein Viertel der österreichischen Olympia-Teilnehmer ließ sich die Show nicht entgehen. 19 Athleten und inklusive Betreuern 51 Personen umfasste die Abordnung. Mit Kitesurf-Olympiasieger Valentin Bontus sowie den Kletterern Jakob Schubert und Jessica Pilz, die jeweils Bronze geholt hatten, waren noch weitere drei Medaillengewinner anwesend.

Sie sahen eine dystopische Showeinlage, in der eine Welt ohne Olympische Spiele stilisiert wurde. Aber auch Sportlerinnen und Sportler standen noch einmal im Mittelpunkt. Dem Erfolgreichsten der Spiele in Paris war es vorbehalten, die Olympische Flamme mit einer Laterne aus dem Garten beim Louvre, wo das Feuer die vergangenen 16 Tage gebrannt hatte, ins Stadion zu bringen. Dort wurde Leon Marchand mit Sprechchören gefeiert, ehe die Flamme erlosch. Der Lokalheld hat in seiner Heimatstadt viermal Gold und einmal Bronze gewonnen.

Cruise seilte sich ab

Für die USA trug seine Schwimm-Kollegin Katie Ledecky die Fahne, die in Paris mit ihrer neunten Goldmedaille zur Nummer drei der ewigen Olympia-Bestenliste avanciert ist. Die olympische Flagge nahm Bürgermeisterin Karen Bass für Los Angeles entgegen, auch Turn-Heldin Simone Biles wirkte an der Zeremonie mit.

Zum Abschluss gab es einen Vorgeschmack auf die Spiele 2028 in Hollywood: viel Starpower. Die US-Nationalhymne performte R&B-Star H.E.R., Filmheld Tom Cruise seilte sich von der Stadionfassade ab und nahm Biles die Flagge aus der Hand, um sie aus dem Stadion zu bringen. In einem Videozuspieler wurden Sportstätten und Stars von Los Angeles gezeigt. Dort traten am Strand in Venice die Red Hot Chili Peppers und die Singer-Songwriterin Billie Eilish, ehe die Rap-Legenden Snoop Dogg und Dr. Dre den Schlusspunkt setzten. (APA)
