However, in Visakhapatnam, you will be able to take a ship only once a month. Your journey by ship will last around 3-4 days, last over 50-60 hours and make a stop at Port Blair for 2-4 days. 

You can access the shipping schedule over a month in advance for the mainland-island sector.

We don’t usually recommend traveling by ship. But if you’re the kind of traveler who is looking for an unusual adventure every step of your journey, you can choose this option. Although, we’d like to tell you that you’ll have plenty of that on the islands!

• Your travel by ship is a 3 to 4 day long journey. Unfortunately, the ship doesn’t act as a cruise liner, which means you won’t be provided with any entertainment options or exciting meals. Before you choose to take this journey, think of the ship as a strictly commercial choice of travel. 
• The booking process is everything but easy. The lack of convenience can add a little frustration, since you can only make your bookings by physically visiting the Shipping Corporation offices in Calcutta, Chennai, or Vishakhapatnam. There’s no option for you to make these bookings online.

Ross Island is ideally a two part trip, the morning to evening portion includes going around the island looking at the ruins from the era of the British and Japanese rule. the late evening portion includes a spectacular sound, light & video show (yes you read it correctly!!) which has been created specially for Ross island by Revathi (the actress)

This is a over hyped, and not worth the time and money spent to reach here. It used to be called the “Paris of the East” when the British settled here. But everything is destroyed now.

The only good place here is a beach that is on the other side. You will need to climb down and up a lot of steps to get there.

It was a perfect location for family fun, the erstwhile Ross Island has all the history of a mini Paris, albeit at the cost of all Indian labour and is an example of the British opulence over poverty stricken India. Perfect for taking pics and the picturesque light house was delightful. We took the buggy as we were a large family with kids. There are deer and peacocks too.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your holiday.

You, or any member of your party, may cancel their travel arrangements at any time. Written notification or an e-mail to that effect from the person who made the booking must be received at our offices. The applicable cancellation charges are as per the published cancellation policy below.

Cancellation Charges Per Person

• Prior to 30 days or more: Booking Fee.
• Between 30-20 days ahead of departure: 50 Percent of tour cost.
• Between 20-15 days of departure: 75 Percent of tour cost.
• 15 days to date of departure: 100 Percent.
• In case of no show: 100 Percent.

If We Change or Cancel Your Holiday

We do plan the arrangements in advance. It is unlikely that we will have to make any changes to your travel arrangements. Occasionally, we may have to make changes and we reserve the right to do so at any time. If there are any changes, we will advise you of them at the earliest possible date. We also reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements by assigning reasons to you.

If we are unable to provide the booked travel arrangements due to reasons beyond our control (for instance, bad weather): We shall first try to offer you alternative dates for the tour if the tour has not already commenced;

If the tour has already commenced, then we shall refund the booking price/fee charged from you on a pro-rata basis depending on portion of the tour standing utilized by you

In all circumstances, however, our liability shall be limited refunding to you the price we charged as the tour fees.

Change Your Holiday Plan

After confirmation of services, if you wish to change your travel arrangements in any way, for example your chosen departure date or accommodation, we will do our utmost to make these changes but it may not always be possible. Any request for changes to be made must be in writing from the person who made the booking. All cost incurred due to amendment will be borne by yourself.

If You Have a Complaint

If you have a problem during your holiday, PLEASE INFORM THE RELEVANT SUPPLIER, (e.g. your hotelier, transporter etc.) and/or our representative IMMEDIATELY who will endeavour to put things right. If your complaint is not resolved locally, please follow this up within 28 days of your return home by writing to us, giving your booking reference and all other relevant information. However, please be advised that while we are happy to assist you in the redressal of your complaint, if any, we will be able to extend only our best efforts in managing/coordinating your complaint with the respective service provider. All third party service providers are independent contractors who at no time are under our control or supervision.

All the booking voucher and tickets will be provided 3 days prior to departure.

Terms & Conditions

• Per person prices are quoted on twin-share basis (2 persons sharing a room).
• A maximum of 3 adults are allowed in one room.
• The third occupant of the room shall be provided a mattress/rollaway bed.
• The price does not include – Expenses of personal nature, such as laundry, telephone calls, room service, alcoholic beverages, mini bar charges, tips, portage, camera fees etc. Any meals and services not specifically mentioned in the inclusions.
• Airline seats and hotel rooms are subject to availability at the time of booking.
• In case of unavailability in the listed hotels, arrangement for an alternate accommodation will be made in a hotel of similar standard.
• Check-in and check-out times at hotels would be as per hotel policies. These are generally pre-decided as per ferry operation schedules.
• Transportation shall be provided as per the itinerary and will not be at disposal.
• City museums and monuments remain closed on Mondays while Ross Island remains closed on Wednesdays. If any visit is missed due to closure or maintenance issues, all efforts will be made to cover the sightseeing after returning to Port Blair from Havelock/Neil, time permitting.
• Guests who have pre-booked Scuba or Sea walk shall be provided the activity in Havelock as per time slot availability.
• Snorkelling is a complementary activity and in case this is missed due to any reason, there would be no refund/compensation for the same.
• It is advisable to seek your doctor’s advice before undertaking activities like Scuba or Sea walk, especially in case of any pre-existing medical issues.
• EWSH reserves the right to modify the itinerary at any point, due to reasons including but not limited to: Force Majeure events, strikes, fairs, festivals, weather conditions, traffic problems, overbooking of hotels / flights, cancellation / rerouting of flights, closure of / entry restrictions at a place of visit, etc. While we will do our best to make suitable alternate arrangements, we would not be held liable for any refunds/compensation claims arising out of this.
• It is mandatory for all guests to carry valid photo ID’s (Passport/Driving License/Voter ID Card). PAN Card is not accepted at many places as a valid photo ID.
• Foreign Nationals need to clear immigration at Port Blair, where they are issued with a RAP (Restricted Area Permit) free of cost. This permit is to be carried by the foreign national at all times and would be required at the time of check-in at the hotel, during security checks before boarding vessels, landing on every island etc. It is mandatory to carry valid original passport and visa in order to obtain the RAP. Photocopies/scan copies are not accepted.
• In case Makruzz/Coastal Cruise are not operational due to weather, technical or other unavoidable reasons, EWS Holidays shall make the best possible alternate arrangements. However, EWS Holidays will not be liable for any refund claims arising from this.
• If your flights involve a combination of different airlines, you may have to collect your luggage on arrival at the connecting hub and register it again while checking in for the return journey to your origin.
• Service Tax shall be applicable over and above the mentioned prices.

• Disputes, if any, shall be subject to to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in New Delhi.

Ferry might be Markus instead of green ocean for my travel to Havelock from portblair. Return trip was awesome Pros: Hotel in Havelock was awesome. We loved the complete trip, everyday was same as explained while booking except couple of thing like. 1. First day hotel in Port Blair "Hotel Seagull" room was very small and suffocating. 2. There was some payment due at Port Blair again "Hotel Blue MMarlin" from travel agency side though i made whole payment to the agency well in advance due to which hotel didn't allows us to check in for almost 45 mins had to wait at reception area with kids. finally issue got resolved after making multiple calls to the agency. This is one of the main reasons why people opt for sea route despite the fact that it is time-consuming. Honestly, it takes around 4 Days if you are coming in a ship to Andaman.

Yes, there can be a difference in the expenses of a flight and sea. However, if you are opting for a double sharing rather than a dormitory there are chances that ticket cost of traveling via a flight and cruise will be same.

Also, when you pay for the flight, the meal may or may not be complimentary but in case of the sea travel, food charges are extra. This implies if you are traveling via a cruise, you are likely to pay for 9 meals(3 days travel). The bottom line is that the cruise journey is fairly expensive.

When does the booking open for Ship to Andaman?

Cruise has limited seats and the tickets are made available only before 15 days of travel. This implies you are at a risk because there can be chances that you do not get tickets and it can ruin your travel plan.

Honestly, I think its mainly the experience that people are looking into that brings so many people wanting to take a ship/cruise to the Andaman Islands. For once in a lifetime experience, you can consider a ship journey off course, however, it comes with its own baggage as mentioned above.

Traveling on these cruises has its own constraints :

An unexpected change in weather.

Sailing on the ship depends on the weather conditions and the ship can be delayed if the weather forecast says there will be rain or rough weather out there.

If you have planned to travel via Kolkata or Chennai but for some reason, the journey gets delayed then you have to find a place to stay which is an added expense. It could take a week or so to clear the weather conditions which could hamper your plans and lead to cancellation of hotel booking if you have booked everything in advance.

Time-consuming

Travelling from Kolkata, Chennai or Vizag usually takes 3-4 days to reach Andaman, if there is no halt in between or the ship is not delayed. Adding to this will be a day taken to reach from your city to the ports.

In comparison to it, air travel takes just a few hours and is more comfortable than ships; whose time period is awfully long. For people who are working in the corporate sectors have limited number of days to explore the new place; in such situations, sea journey is not the preferred medium.

Accommodation on the ship

There are four different categories of room available on the ship and depending on your budget you can choose the rooms.

Sharing room for six

Sharing for four, twin room sharing, ticket availability.

So, depending on the availability of the seat; bookings open 15 days before the departure and you can book your class of seat if it comes in your budget. There is no criterion for advance bookings in lieu of getting discounts.

Pros of Travelling on the ship to the islands:

New experience.

If you are a person who craves to try out new experiences and has never traveled on the ship before then this can be your chance. Some people love to accumulate experiences and sea travel is enriching and peaceful.

India enhances visa facilities to boost tourism

India is making strides to boost tourism by simplifying the visa process for citizens of Japan, South Korea and the UAE. Effective from August 2024, travellers from these nations will be able to obtain a visa-on-arrival when visiting India for tourism, business, medical purposes or even official conferences. This new facility will grant a 60-day visa upon arrival at six major Indian airports: Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. The visa-on-arrival will come with a fee of INR 2,000. Eligible travellers will need to download, fill out and submit an application form to the Visa Officer at the visa-on-arrival counters. The form will be available at the counters, on incoming aircraft and can also be filled out upon arrival.

In addition, a duly completed disembarkation card will need to be submitted. A double-entry facility may be granted at the discretion of the Immigration Office. However, certain conditions and restrictions will apply to ensure the smooth functioning of the new visa-on-arrival system. Currently, India also offers an evisa facility with Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to nationals of 167 countries, allowing entry through 30 designated international airports and six major seaports across the country. The Ministry of Home Affairs has recently approved an Integrated Check Post (ICP) for foreign nationals holding e-visas, which is set to significantly impact the tourism landscape.

The introduction of e-visas is expected to be a game-changer, particularly for regions like the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Previously, yachts and cruise ships could only pass by the islands; now, they can dock, bringing both direct and indirect revenue. This new policy will extend beyond Port Blair to include five other major seaports: Mumbai, New Mangalore, Cochin, Mormugao and Chennai. This interconnected network aims to streamline entry for e-visa holders, making the Andaman and Nicobar Islands more accessible than ever before.

Authorities have meticulously planned this development to ensure a seamless experience for international guests, aligning with their vision of positioning the islands as a premier destination for global tourists. This initiative is expected to significantly boost yacht tourism in the region and elevate the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the global tourism map. Local tour operators have welcomed the move, noting that the e-visa system will attract not only foreign travellers but also Indian yacht enthusiasts, thereby promoting domestic tourism as well.
