Travel + Leisure / Alexander Huang

Whether you’re packing for a quick city break or an action-packed adventure cruise, there’s one essential you can’t leave home without: a good travel toothbrush. While there’s nothing to stop you from taking your regular toothbrush with you on vacation, the best options are lightweight and compact, with a durable travel case or brush cap to keep things hygienic in transit. We’ve selected the most travel-friendly picks from our ongoing electric toothbrush tests to round up this list of the very best. Each toothbrush was rated for ease of use, functionality, overall quality, value, and portability.

We also researched the best manual travel toothbrush options, including folding and disposable picks for those who prioritize portable convenience. There’s even an all-in-one kit since dental floss , mouthwash, and toothpaste are just as important as your travel toothbrush, because as dental hygienist Caroline Amerson, RDH, BSDH, MS, says, “the bacteria in your mouth work 24/7, 365 days a year even when you’re on vacation.” Read on to find our top picks for all your travel needs.

Best Overall, Electric

Oral-b genius x limited.

This toothbrush uses artificial intelligence to deliver a futuristic brushing experience enhanced by an integrated timer and pressure sensor.

The brush is slightly top-heavy and tips easily if knocked.

For tech-savvy perfectionists, it’s difficult to imagine a better toothbrush than the Oral-B Genius X Limited, an AI-enabled masterpiece that managed to seriously impress us, despite having previously only used manual toothbrushes and balking at this one’s considerable price tag. Even with its many bells and whistles, we found it intuitive to use right out of the box. The toothbrush uses Bluetooth to connect to an app on your smartphone, where you can view a diagram of your teeth that shows which areas have been correctly cleaned in real time.

We found the ability to see when we had achieved complete coverage very satisfying. The app also provides tips for effective brushing, saves your brushing history, and gives you the option to choose which modes are activated by toggling through the toothbrush’s easy-to-operate button. These range from the default (daily clean) to intense, sensitive, whitening, gum care, and tongue clean settings. Our favorite feature was the ring of LED lights that flashes red when you brush too hard (handy for those with receding gums).

We also appreciated the built-in timer, which not only alerts you when you’ve brushed for the recommended two minutes but also lets you know how long to spend on each quadrant of your mouth. The toothbrush itself is comfortable to hold, with a small, round head that reaches the furthest areas of the mouth and glides over teeth easily. We felt as though our teeth had been professionally cleaned each time. Finally, your investment is protected while traveling by a sturdy, slimline travel case.

Best Overall, Manual

Boka classic manual toothbrush.

This toothbrush features activated charcoal-infused bristles for maximum whitening and bacteria reduction.

There’s just one bristle strength available (extra soft).

The Boka Classic Manual Toothbrush is our top pick for those who like to brush manually in their everyday lives or are hesitant to travel with an expensive electric toothbrush. It’s lightweight, with a sleek, simple build that feels comfortable in the hand and a compact head that reaches easily into tight spaces. We love that the bristles are extra soft, making them gentle on sensitive gums and teeth; yet long and tapered for an effective clean around the gumline.

Given their softness, the bristles are surprisingly durable. They’re also infused with activated charcoal for maximum cleanliness and odor reduction without resorting to abrasive charcoal pastes and powders. The bioplastic handle scores sustainability points while the included protective cap keeps things hygienic when traveling. Choose yours in white, pink, mint, or blue.

The Details: Manual | Brush cap | Extra soft bristles

AquaSonic Electric Toothbrush

This toothbrush offers many of the same key features as the more expensive ones on our list, for a fraction of the price.

The brush head is a bit small.

Approved by the American Dental Association (ADA), the AquaSonic Vibe Series Ultra Whitening Toothbrush is made for travel with a slim, lightweight body and a custom, hard plastic travel case with space for two extra brush heads. We love that the battery lasts for four full weeks, so unless you’re going on an extended trip, you don’t even need to pack the charger. When it does run out of battery, ultra-fast wireless charging eliminates the hassle of having cables all over your bathroom counter.

The toothbrush produces 40,000 vibrations per minute and includes four modes: clean, whiten, massage, and soft for sensitive gums. We found it easy to switch between the settings with a push of a button. Smart vibration timers indicate the 30-second and two-minute marks. We brushed immediately after eating gummy sweets and dried mango and felt that the toothbrush did an admirable job of cleaning our teeth. It comes with eight replacement heads in cute colors ranging from satin rose gold to mint green metallic.

Best Splurge

Philips sonicare prestige 9900 toothbrush.

This toothbrush offers AI-powered sensitive brushing, app connectivity, and a beautiful charging case that’s perfect for travel.

The expense is only worth it if you plan on using all of the extra features.

The Philips Sonicare Prestige 9900 is the most advanced electric toothbrush in the Philips range, coming in at almost twice the price of our already spendy overall winner. However, if you’re particularly invested in your oral care, it may well be worth the splurge. It’s easy to set up, ready to use right out of the box, and comfortable to hold (not too heavy, not too light, with a smooth, matte surface). There are five modes and three intensity settings to choose from, and we appreciated that we could switch between them while brushing.

The toothbrush uses intelligent SenseIQ technology to sense pressure, motion, and coverage up to 100 times per second. It uses this information to adapt intensity automatically. An LED indicator warns you if you scrub too hard or apply too much pressure; while vibration alerts tell you when to switch brushing areas and when your two minutes are up. We liked being able to view a 3D map of our brushing efforts on the AI-powered Sonicare app, while the All-in-One brush head with its extra-long, angled bristles gave us that fresh-from-the-dentist smoothness after every brush.

We particularly appreciated that the elegant, vegan leather travel case doubles as a charger for travel-ready convenience. The battery lasts approximately two weeks (enough for most trips) and has an icon to indicate how much charge remains.

Best for Sensitive Gums

Philips sonicare protectiveclean electric toothbrush.

This toothbrush offers three intensities and three brushing modes, including one especially designed for gum care.

While we liked the simplicity of not having an app or Bluetooth connectivity, some may miss these features.

The Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 is specially designed for sensitive teeth and gums. It’s also ideal for orthodontics and dental work including braces, crowns, and veneers. A built-in pressure sensor emits a gentle pulsing sound whenever you brush too hard, while other vibrating alerts let you know when to switch brushing areas and when your two minutes are up. You can choose between three intensities and three brushing modes: clean, white, and gum care. The latter adds an extra minute of reduced-power brushing for a gentle gum massage.

We used all of the settings each time we brushed. Toggling through them was easy, although we had to stop brushing to do so which limited the usefulness of the two-minute timer. The brush was comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver, leaving our teeth perfectly clean and smooth. This model also features intelligent BrushSync, which adjusts the intensity according to the type of brush head used and notifies you via a light on the handle when it’s time to change heads. The toothbrush comes with a compact charging base and a sturdy, hygienic travel case.

Best Folding

Gum folding travel toothbrush.

With a handle that doubles as a protective case, this toothbrush is ideal for slipping into a carry-on or backpack pocket.

The case features ventilation holes and is therefore not completely sealed.

For maximum on-the-go convenience, we love the Gum Folding Travel Toothbrush. Its tri-fold design reduces its size considerably for easy packing, while the handle doubles as a sturdy travel case to protect bristles from germs in transit. Tiny holes allow air to pass through so that the brush can continue to dry even if packed damp; similarly, a special coating prevents bacteria from accumulating.

Unlike some other folding toothbrushes, this one is just as sturdy as a regular toothbrush when unfolded, with a full-sized head. Meanwhile, the bristles are soft enough for sensitive gums with a multi-level design that enables them to clean effectively in between teeth. When you’re finished brushing, use the tongue cleaner on the reverse side of the head to complete your oral hygiene routine.

The Details: Manual | Handle doubles as a travel case | Soft bristles

Best Disposable

Freshee 5-in-1 disposable mini toothbrush.

You don’t need water to use these mini toothbrushes.

The disposable concept isn’t very environmentally friendly.

The Freshee 5-in-1 Disposable Mini Toothbrush is the ideal solution for those long travel days when access to a bathroom isn’t always convenient. That’s because it’s pre-pasted with a gel bubble filled with a liquid toothpaste designed for use without water. And, since it also minimizes foam production you won’t need to spit. Each toothbrush is individually wrapped to keep it sterile until you’re ready to use it.

The tiny packet fits in a jacket pocket, wallet, or carry-on pouch and since you throw the toothbrush away after use, you don’t have to worry about packing the damp brush away again. Despite its diminutive size, the toothbrush takes care of all your oral hygiene needs. Pull the handle apart to reveal a toothpick, then use the flossing stick on the end to clean in between each tooth. There’s even a tongue scraper on the back of the toothbrush head for optimal oral cleaning.

The Details: Manual | Individually wrapped | Soft bristles

Spark Dental Co. Dental Travel Kit

This kit provides everything you need to keep your teeth clean in a TSA-approved, travel-ready bag.

The zippered pouch could be more durable.

Don’t have time to shop around for all of the dental care items you need ahead of your next trip? The Spark Dental Co. Travel Kit includes them all in a single purchase. First up, there’s a travel toothbrush with soft bristles and a tapered head for navigating the furthest reaches of your mouth. This toothbrush folds into its own handle, halving its size when packed and protecting it from germs — although some may find the locking mechanism is a little flimsy.

Other contents include a travel-sized tube of minty Crest toothpaste and a miniature bottle of Scope mouthwash. Both have been specifically chosen to comply with TSA rules for liquids and gels on airplanes. Finally, the kit includes a box of Oral-B dental floss for a true deep clean. All of these items come in a leakproof, zippered plastic pouch that can be used over and over again. There’s even a little space for any extra items you may wish to add.

We picked the best travel toothbrushes based on a combination of real-world testing and thorough research. All of our electric toothbrush picks were tested at home, where we evaluated them for ease of use, design, functionality, features, and quality. The selections in this article are some of our favorites from various real-world tests. The manual toothbrushes were selected by meticulously researching available data, trends, and other online reviews. We also interviewed a dental hygienist to make sure we knew what features to look for when selecting toothbrushes.

Tips for Buying a Travel Toothbrush

Decide whether you want something manual or electric.

If your budget allows for it, dental hygienist Caroline Amerson, RDH, BSDH, MS, says an electric toothbrush is always preferable to a manual one in terms of providing superior dental care. That’s because an electric toothbrush performs over 30,000 strokes per minute whereas a manual one can only perform around 300. Even if you’re going on a wilderness expedition with no access to electricity (or if you’re just worried about finding the correct adapter), a fully charged electric toothbrush will likely last for several weeks.

Amerson also points out that it’s possible to extend battery life by using the toothbrush manually in the morning and switching the electric motor on at night when it’s imperative to remove plaque and food before sleep. And, she says, just as a broken escalator turns into a functional set of stairs, so an uncharged electric toothbrush can be used as a manual one in a pinch. You could also look for an electric toothbrush with a travel-specific charging case. There is one caveat — disposable, pre-pasted toothbrushes are ideal for travel days when access to running water is difficult and you want to avoid packing a separate tube of toothpaste.

Choose the right bristle type for your teeth

Amerson says that you should only ever consider using a toothbrush with soft or extra-soft bristles. In fact, she says that “medium or hard bristles should be reserved for cleaning the grout between your bathroom tiles!” She also points out that the two major electric toothbrush brands in the United States (Oral-B and Sonicare) offer different brush head styles. Oral-B brushes use a round oscillating head which requires hopping from tooth to tooth using a slight rocking motion.

Meanwhile, Sonicare brushes have a more traditional head that should be held against the teeth with the last row of bristles sweeping the gumline. There’s no need to exert any pressure or implement any special kind of motion — just let the toothbrush glide around your mouth. Amerson points out that both styles work equally well, although she finds that Sonicare brushes offer an easier and more natural transition from manual toothbrushes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Keeping your toothbrush clean in transit requires some kind of traveling case or brush cap to prevent the bristles from coming into contact with germs. Amerson recommends choosing a case that has air vents in it to allow the bristles to dry properly. And when it comes to storing your toothbrush at your destination, try not to keep it in the same space as the toilet but rather on a nightstand or in the sink area if the latter is separate to the toilet. Finally, if you become unwell on your travels, consider purchasing a replacement toothbrush or switching out the head to prevent lingering bacteria from prolonging the sickness.

Unless space is a major concern — in which case, a folding manual toothbrush like the one listed above is your best bet — you should be able to use your everyday toothbrush on your travels. The amount you can expect to spend depends on whether you choose a manual toothbrush (usually in the $1 to $5 range) or an electric one (anywhere from $20 for a budget brand like Quip to $300+ for a top of the range choice from Sonicare). Amerson says that if high-end electric toothbrushes are out of your budget, any toothbrush with a motor is better than one without, so spend what you can while bearing in mind that a better quality product will last longer and offer more value in terms of cost per use.

According to TSA guidelines , electric toothbrushes may be packed in both your checked and carry-on luggage. The exception is those that use lithium ion batteries, which MUST be packed in your carry-on. Airports and airlines outside the U.S. may have different rules, but the general consensus seems to be that keeping your electric toothbrush with you in the cabin is the best and most acceptable practice.

Travel-friendly toothbrush options that take up less space.

Wherever and whenever you go, a toothbrush (and toothpaste!) is a definite must-have in your carry-on luggage or backpack for travel.

Whenever I travel, I always joke around that I can leave everything else – BUT NOT my toothbrush.

Of course, I’m not okay with leaving my other important travel gear , but you get my point. While picking up a toothbrush at your destination is no big deal, packing one is generally high on everyone’s priority list.

Even though they might be tiny, we at Her Packing List believe that every little bit adds up – even your toiletry kit . If you’re after a more travel-friendly toothbrush option that takes up even less space , we’ve got you covered!

From folding to electric to compact ones, we made sure to include everything in the list – including toothbrush covers to keep your toothbrush clean!

Things to Consider When Buying a Travel Toothbrush

Before you get confused with so many options, there are a few things you need to consider before buying a toothbrush for your next travels.

Here they are:

Bristle firmness and texture

Yes, how toothbrush bristles feel against your mouth matters. There are different firmness and textures of toothbrushes from soft to medium to hard. Unfortunately, a lot of the super compact and low-cost travel toothbrushes can feel pretty harsh on your gums, so choose wisely.

If you have sensitive teeth and gums, soft to medium bristles should be your first choice. Just to be sure, check with your dentist.

Type of travel toothbrush

With plenty of options on the market, you need to decide if you’d go for disposable or reusable travel toothbrushes (which come in a lot of different types, like foldable or compact). While we recommend reusable, there are some interesting disposable toothbrushes that might have a place on certain trips.

You also have the choice to bring an electric toothbrush if you prefer it more than manual options.

Take note that both manual and electric toothbrushes have their own pros and cons. For example, a manual or compact toothbrush requires less maintenance. On the other hand, an electric toothbrush will either require a battery or charge to function.

Toothbrush covers for hygiene

While the idea of stuffing your toothbrush in a plastic or a ziploc bag seems great, it’s actually the worst place to keep them. Why? Bacteria buildup (eww!).

Bacteria likes to grow in wet places and when you’re traveling, using your toothbrush and stuffing it in a plastic bag suffocates them with no room to breathe. When you buy a travel toothbrush, make sure you also buy appropriate covers with holes for ventilation to keep your toothbrush free of bacteria.

Travel-Friendly Toothbrush Options

Now that we’ve talked about the basics, here are the different travel-friendly toothbrushes that you may like for your next travels.

Electric Travel Toothbrushes

Philips one rechargeable toothbrush.

The Philips One electric toothbrush affordable, bulkier than manual and compact toothbrushes, but offer a more satisfying brushing experience.

Inclusions: 1x rechargeable toothbrush, 1x brush head, 1x travel case, 1x Type-C USB charger

Why we like it:

  • Quiet operation
  • Slender handle

What’s not to like: Bulkier and less powerful than regular electric toothbrush

Compared to other electric toothbrushes on the market, the Philips One electric toothbrush is quite affordable. It’s bulkier than manual and compact toothbrushes, but if you want a more satisfying brushing experience this is the one you should buy.

Also, the slender handle of this electric toothbrush makes it easier to brush your teeth. Just note that this is less powerful than regular electric toothbrushes since it’s made for travel.

Pop Sonic Electric Toothbrush

The Pop Sonic electric toothbrush is more packable than the Philips One since it's less bulky.

Inclusions: 1x electric toothbrush, 1x replacement brush head, 1x AAA battery, 1x instruction manual

  • Comes with 2-speed options
  • Ergonomic design

What’s not to like: Soft bristles and gentle brushing may not be for everyone

The Pop Sonic electric toothbrush is more packable than the Philips One since it’s less bulky. The nylon bristles of this toothbrush are good for sensitive gums since they’re soft, but also flexible for hard-to-reach areas.

Overall, using this toothbrush will be like giving your teeth a gentle massage. While that’s a good thing for some, you may not like it if you’re used to giving your teeth a good scrub at the end of the day. It’s all about preference! BUT if you like a cute toothbrush with soft bristles, then this will be perfect.

Quip Adult Electric Toothbrush

The Quip adult electric toothbrush is compact, sleek, and powerful with a built-in tongue scraper.

  • Built-in tongue scraper
  • Sleek and compact design
  • Automatic notification at a 2-minute stop

What’s not to like: Limited color options

The Quip adult electric toothbrush is compact, sleek, and powerful! It’s powerful enough to provide your teeth and mouth with a deep clean feel despite having soft bristles. The added bonus was the built-in tongue scraper! The sleek and compact design makes it easy to hold and is super easy to use.

Compact Travel Toothbrushes

Lingito travel toothbrush.

The Lingito travel toothbrush is very convenient for travel with a compact design and a built-in case that converts into a handle.

Inclusions: 3x toothbrush per pack

  • Convertible built-in case
  • Medium bristle firmness
  • Regular-sized toothbrush

The Lingito travel toothbrush is very convenient for travel since it comes with a built-in case that you can convert into a handle when you use it. This compact design makes it easy to bring this toothbrush in your purse or even your pocket.

A pack comes with three toothbrushes making it one of the most affordable options out there. The only thing you need to be careful with is that since the handle becomes a fully enclosed case, you need to make sure that your toothbrush is dry before you pack it up to avoid bacteria buildup.

Heinenand Travel Toothbrush

The Heinenand travel toothbrush is multi-functional as a toothbrush, a floss, a toothpick, and a tongue scraper in one.

Inclusions: 10x or 20x toothbrushes per pack

  • 4-in-1 toothbrush
  • Environmentally friendly as it’s made from wheat straw

What’s not to like: Too small for some and ultra-soft bristles are not for everyone.

Similar to the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp toothbrush, the Heinenand travel toothbrush works as a convenient toothbrush that is multi-functional.

You can buy this for a pack of 10 or 20 and you get a toothbrush, a floss, toothpick, and a tongue scraper in one. It’s a convenient way to keep your teeth and mouth clean overall. What makes this toothbrush even better is that it’s nature-friendly being made from biodegradable materials.

Prony 3in1 Portable Travel Toothbrush

The Prony 3in1 portable toothbrush comes with a toothpaste tube so you don’t have to worry about bringing a full tube of toothpaste.

Inclusions: 1x foldable toothbrush and 1x free cleaning brush

  • 3in1 kit (toothbrush, travel case, and toothpaste tube)
  • replaceable toothbrush head
  • FREE cleaning brush

What’s not to like: No ventilation holes

The Prony 3in1 portable toothbrush is almost perfect for a folding toothbrush – except it lacks any ventilation holes. But missing ventilation hole aside, it’s a good travel toothbrush with a toothpaste tube so you don’t have to worry about bringing a full tube of toothpaste.

Plus, there’s an included cleaning brush for cleaning the toothpaste end. Just make sure to keep it out for as long as you can to let it dry before putting it away.

Folding Travel Toothbrushes

Gum folding toothbrush.

The GUM folding travel toothbrush has a space-saving tri-fold design where the bristles fold into the handle.

Inclusions: Pack of 2 toothbrushes

  • Tri-fold design
  • Antibacterial bristles

As folding toothbrushes go, the GUM folding travel toothbrush is on a whole new level. Aside from its space-saving tri-fold design where the bristles fold into the handle, this toothbrush also uses hygienic-treated bristles to keep it clean.

Plus, there’s a tiny hole to air out any leftover moisture to make sure your toothbrush is free of mold and any possible bacteria buildup from being wet.

Radius Tour Travel Toothbrush

The Radius Tour travel toothbrush is a compact option with a unique hideaway feature and 3x more bristles for better cleaning.

Inclusion: Pack of 3 toothbrushes

  • Slim neck and jack knife design
  • 3x more bristles than the average toothbrush
  • Sustainable and eco-friendly materials

What’s not to like: Too soft bristles may not feel as effective at cleaning your teeth

Radius is a small business owned by women and they definitely know what a woman needs when packing light . The unique hideaway feature of the Radius Tour travel toothbrush makes it very compact. They have 3x more bristles (that are vegetable-derived) for better cleaning and the heads are replaceable, which saves you more compared to just buying a whole new toothbrush.

Lingito Folding Travel Toothbrush

The Lingito travel toothbrush is lightweight and compact with a solid grip handle, folds up nicely, and cleans up well with medium-soft bristles.

  • Firm grip handle
  • No need for a loose cover
  • Budget-friendly option

What’s not to like: Limited color choices

As a folding toothbrush, the Lingito travel toothbrush is pretty straightforward. It comes with a solid grip handle, folds up nicely, and cleans up well with medium-soft bristles. It’s lightweight and compact and you don’t need any additional toothbrush cover since the toothbrush head folds into the handle.

Brooke has this folding toothbrush and likes that it makes packing a toothbrush into her Tom Bihn 3D Organizer Cube – that she uses as a toiletry bag – so much easier!

Travel Toothbrush Kits

Colgate max fresh wisp disposable mini toothbrush.

The Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrush is a toothbrush and a toothpick in one with built-in toothpaste (freshening beads) that dissolve once you use it.

Inclusions: 24x disposable mini toothbrush

  • No rinsing necessary
  • Brush and go
  • Built-in toothpaste bead
  • Can also be used as a toothpick

What’s not to like: Too small for some, and it’s disposable.

If you’re looking for a quick way to clean your teeth on the go, the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrush should be in your toiletries. It’s a toothbrush and a toothpick in one with built-in toothpaste (freshening beads) that dissolve once you use it. That’s right… no need to practice those toothpaste packing hacks with this brush option.

This is convenient when you don’t have easy access to water and you need a convenient way to clean your teeth. It can also be nice for those quick overnight trips – you won’t have to pack much, not even toothpaste!

Crest Scope Mini Toothbrush

The Crest Scope mini toothbrushes are a lot similar to the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrushes, but with thick and stiff bristles.

Inclusions: 12x mini toothbrush

  • Multi-ridge tongue cleaner
  • Interdental pick

What’s not to like: Not the most durable travel toothbrush, and it’s intended for single-use

The Crest Scope mini toothbrushes are a lot similar to the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrushes. But where the Colgate Max Fresh wisp has softer bristles, the Crest Scope has thick and stiff bristles. This can make brushing your teeth feel uncomfortable especially if you have sensitive teeth and gums. It’s a good travel toothbrush for a quick clean, perhaps nice for camping, but it is not the most durable option.

Reach Oral Kit

The Reach Oral Kit is a complete dental kit, but doesn’t fold which may not be the most compact option.

Inclusions: 1x toothbrush, 1x Crest 3D White Luxe Whitening Toothpaste, 1x toothbrush cap, 1x mini floss container

  • Complete oral hygiene kit
  • Easy kit to buy and pack without thinking

What’s not to like: Not the most compact option

If you’re a fan of a complete oral kit, this would be a good choice. However, it might not be your best choice if you’re looking for a compact option since the toothbrush doesn’t fold and you need to find more space for it plus the toothpaste that comes with it.

Colgate Travel Kit

The Colgate Travel Kit comes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a travel-friendly toothpaste tube.

Inclusions: 1x toothbrush, 1x Toothpaste

  • Value pack toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Convertible handle as toothbrush case

What’s not to like: No ventilation holes on toothbrush case

The Colgate Travel Kit comes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a travel-friendly toothpaste tube. The toothbrush case can be converted as the handle which makes it very compact. The only downside is the lack of a ventilation hole when storing the toothbrush.

Brushee 3in1 Oral Care Tool

The Brushee 3in1 Oral Care kit is a pocket-sized toothbrush for quick and easy oral hygiene when you are on the go.

Inclusions: 24x pre-pasted mini toothbrushes with dental floss and toothpick

  • Value pack multifunction oral kit

What’s not to like: Too small and may not be the most eco-friendly option

The Brushee 3in1 Oral Care kit is a pocket-sized toothbrush for quick and easy oral hygiene when you are on the go. The brush has medium bristles, but the dental pick may be a bit challenging to use since it’s short and very sharp so you need to be careful.

9 Best Travel Toothbrush Options for Your Trips in 2024

There might be affiliate links on this page, which means we get a small commission of anything you buy. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Please do your own research before making any online purchase.

When you’re traveling, the last thing that should cause you stress is your toothbrush. Sure, it’s one of your travel essentials. However, with more pressing concerns during a trip, you don’t need the added worry of possible mold growth on the toothbrush you wrapped in a plastic bag.

Getting the right storage for your toothbrush is essential. We’ve already mentioned the possibility of mold in the damp environment of a plastic bag. Moreover, leaving a toothbrush uncovered and surrounded by the rest of your luggage risks contamination.

Your toothbrush is an indispensable tool for good dental hygiene during your trip. So in this post, we’ve reviewed 9 best travel toothbrushes to keep your teeth clean and your breath fresh while you’re on the go and away from home.

Before we introduce to you the best brands in all the categories, let’s first talk about why it is necessary to have the best travel toothbrush for your next vacation .

Don't have the time read the entire review?

Now, if you're a busy person who doesn't have time to read this entire review, then we've simplified everything.  Here is a table to provide you with a quick rating of the best travel toothbrushes.

Why do You Need the Right Travel Toothbrush?

Sometimes it’s easiest to compromise on the things you take with you when you travel. You might not want to risk ruining your best suit, so you pick a spare one out of the back of your closet, or you’d hate for your top-quality toiletries to be destroyed, so you pick up a cheap travel-size alternative to last you the week.

However, you don’t want to compromise on ensuring proper oral health, even while you’re on the move. Whether you’re on a business trip or you’re taking a long overdue vacation, you can’t take a break from properly tending to your oral health . Taking the right toothbrush along with you when you travel guarantees that you can take care of your dental hygiene while you’re away from home.

Also, planning ahead of time and doing your research (such as reading this article) ensures that you’re using the right toothbrush for your oral hygiene needs. Thinking that you can just buy a toothbrush at your destination often results in making one of the aforementioned compromises, as you are stuck getting the wrong kind of toothbrush (bristles are too hard or head is too big) or there’s no available toothbrush for sale at your destination.

Using a medium or hard-bristled toothbrush can not only wear away your enamel, but it can also damage your gums , so you don’t want to take the risk of being stuck with these harsh toothbrushes when you’re traveling.

It’s important to have the right travel toothbrush for hygiene purposes. Aside from wanting to keep your body protected from unwanted germs and bacteria in general, you want to make an especially strong effort to do this while you’re traveling so you don’t end up getting sick when you’re away from home.

Travel toothbrushes are designed to prevent the risk of bacterial contamination and mold growth, especially since you’re storing it in close proximity with the rest of your personal belongings that could be holding onto a variety of germs.

Finally, you need the right travel toothbrush for ease of transport. A full-sized, regular toothbrush is often bulky, while travel toothbrushes are designed so that they can be folded or stored in a compact way to make it fit more conveniently in your luggage.

Furthermore, if you have a compact toothbrush, you can stay fresh during the day even when you aren’t traveling+ by easily storing it in your work bag. Your toothbrush is an essential personal care item that can help you maintain fresh breath, healthy teeth, and make a solid first impression . You never know when a travel toothbrush can come in handy.

Now that you know why you need a great travel toothbrush, let’s look at some of the factors that may make one travel toothbrush more ideal for you than another.

What are the Things to Consider When Looking for the Best Travel Toothbrush?

The choice of the best travel toothbrush actually depends on the kind of trip you’re taking. Some factors to consider are the duration of your trip, your reasons for traveling, and what mode of transport you’ll be taking. With these factors in mind, here are some things to look out for when looking for the ideal toothbrush.

If you prefer a manual foldable toothbrush , make sure to choose one that completely encompasses the bristles when it’s folded and has proper ventilation to discourage mold growth. You don’t want the bristles on your toothbrush to be vulnerable to contamination by coming in contact with any other materials, even if it is your own belongings.

If you prefer a full-sized non-folding toothbrush , get a travel case with vents and possibly a UV light sanitizer to prevent mold and bacteria growth. Having a travel case can help shield your toothbrush from contaminants, but if the case itself has germs on it, it won’t be very effective.

When you're traveling, make it a habit to unpack your toothbrush and take it out of its case as soon as you’re settled. Dark and moist areas create ideal conditions for germs to grow, so allowing your toothbrush to air out as much as possible is important.

If you prefer an electric toothbrush while you travel, make sure to get one that has a long battery life–ideally over two weeks. This way, you don’t have to worry about bringing a bulky charger or finding an outlet to use to plug in your toothbrush.

Other Features to Look For

Bristles. Choose the softest bristles you can find for comfort and better cleaning ability. Harder bristles can lead to receding gums and tooth sensitivity, and the truth is, a soft toothbrush is equally as effective as a hard brush when it comes to removing plaque and getting your teeth clean.

If you’re concerned that you won’t be able to clean your teeth well with a soft toothbrush, you might need to analyze your brushing technique. Make sure that you angle your toothbrush so the bristles are moving toward your gum line, and brush with gentle, circular strokes. You only need to use a little bit of pressure to fully clean your teeth. Focus more on the amount of time you spend brushing rather than how much force you’re using.

Head. A smaller head has been proven to clean more effectively than larger-headed toothbrushes. This is because it’s easier to reach the back of your teeth and the smaller bristles can make more contact with the deeper nooks and crannies of your teeth and the space in between your teeth.

Extra cleaning features. If you have specific needs for dental hygiene because of braces or sensitive teeth or gums, choose a travel toothbrush with features that can accommodate your needs. Any orthodontic treatment is expensive, so you don’t want to risk damaging the wires of braces by using the wrong toothbrush. If you’re dealing with sensitivity, you know the importance of taking the extra steps to ensure your toothbrush is gentle and will not further recede your gum line.

Meets travel regulations. If your toothbrush comes in a kit, the size of the toothpaste tube should meet  airline regulations to ensure that you can take it in your carry-on. You certainly don’t want to go through all the trouble of researching and picking out the perfect toothbrush for your needs just to have it confiscated at the airport.

Now let’s take a thorough look at some of the options for the best travel toothbrushes that are on the market today.

The convenient travel toothbrush holder is great for easy transport and hygienic storage, and the compact travel charger keeps your toothbrush charged while you’re traveling. However, you will be able to go two weeks using a single full charge, but if you need to go on a longer trip, the charger will not take up a lot of space in your luggage.

A toothbrush is usually the last thing to go into your carry-on and one of the most important. However, tossing your brush carelessly into your weekender without protection is a recipe for germs. Sure, you could opt to buy one of those folding manual brushes for trips away, but if you’re used to the power of your regular electric model, it can be tough to switch.

Fortunately there are plenty of quality electric toothbrushes available with travel cases, so you can keep yours hygienic on the move without sacrificing power. Some even have cases that hold their own charge, so you can both forgo packing your regular charger and won’t be disappointed should the hotel’s plugs not be compatible.

There are travel brushes to suit all budgets, with impressive features including real-time technique training via an app, two-minute timers and pressure sensors, so you can keep your teeth in tip-top shape whether at home or away – and all without risk of it getting dirty in your wash bag . Here are our picks of the best electric toothbrushes for travellers we’ve found.

Suri Sustainable Electric Toothbrush

Best travel toothbrush overall

Suri’s smart toothbrushes have a couple of cool features for travellers, plus a host of sustainability credentials we’ve not seen other brands top. The brush heads are made from corn starch and castor oil – no plastic here, thank you very much – and if you send them back to Suri, they’ll be properly recycled for free. As for use on the go, the case has a UV light that destroys bacteria, so you know that you’ve got a clean brush the next time you use it – handy whether you’re away or at home. The case is about a third of the size of others we’ve tried, meaning it’ll squeeze into the smallest gap in your carry-on. Everyone who’s tested this has loved this brush – its slimline case makes it a winner for hand luggage -only travellers especially.

PhilipsOne Battery Toothbrush

Best travel toothbrush for: those on a budget

Sometimes it’s not appropriate to take your £100-plus toothbrush away. If you’re going to be hopping from hotel to hotel, are backpacking or camping, don’t run the risk of losing such a serious investment piece. However, packing a cheaper model doesn’t mean you need to forgo the power of an electric brush. The PhilipsOne does the job perfectly well at a purse-friendly £29.99, buzzing every 30 seconds to let you know when to move on to the next part of your mouth, just like the more premium models tested. It’s not rechargeable, but one AAA battery will last three months – do remember to recycle them correctly at the end of their lifespan.

Oral B iO10

Best travel toothbrush for: recharging on-the-go

I’ve had my iO for around three years now and it’s accompanied me on countless trips around the UK and abroad. It has seven different settings and buzzes every 30 seconds to let you know to move to a different quadrant of your mouth – a feature I really like. The accompanying app tracks how well you brush your teeth and provides feedback on your technique. As a frequent traveller, the best thing about this toothbrush is the chargeable case, which allows you to top up your brush via the case itself, so you don’t have to bring your charger on holiday.

Philips DiamondClean

Best travel toothbrush for: techy types

This is the most expensive toothbrush in our round-up. At over £500, it’s an investment piece. However for your money, you get one of the most advanced electric brushes on the market – with a pressure sensor, 62,000 vibrations per clean, and clever triangular tips that work to banish stains effectively. Over-brushing will be a thing of the past – the brush adjusts itself when it senses you pushing too firmly and an accompanying app provides real time feedback on your technique. The case is the most stylish one we’ve seen, with a sleek faux leather wrap, and a USB charging port that charges the brush inside. If you’re a forgetful type, you might not want to risk bringing such a pricey toothbrush away, but for a stylish, super-effective toothbrush with a travel case, there’s no better option.

Ordo Sonic Lite Electric Toothbrush

Best travel toothbrush for: colour range

Like the Oral-B iO, Ordo’s travel toothbrush case holds its own charge. This gives you an extra eight hours while you’re on the go, on top of an already very respectable four-week battery life. It has four modes and interestingly comes with a silicone polishing element to ensure a dentist squeaky clean feel. It also comes in a selection of cool neon shades, like this luminous purple , a range unlike others on this list.

Sonisk Pulse

Best travel toothbrush for: carry-on only travel

Perfect for travellers who travel with just a personal bag, Sonsik’s electric toothbrush delivers a good clean – 31,000 vibrations a minute – at a mini size and price. It is battery-operated, but one AAA battery should last 90 days, giving you plenty of use on holiday before it needs to be replaced. It comes with two replacement heads, and we like the array of colours on offer, too.

Spotlight Sonic Toothbrush

Best travel toothbrush for: battery life

Spotlight’s electric toothbrush has one of the most impressive battery lives we’ve seen for an electric brush, holding a charge for 70 days. The case isn’t chargeable, but will keep your toothbrush safe in your hand luggage. It has a smart pressure sensor, a timer to let you know when to move on to the next part of your mouth and – unlike the other brushes in this list – a tongue cleaner. At £66 in the sale, it’s well-priced to feel comfortable taking it away with you without fear of loss.

If you’re someone who frequently travels, packing and repacking your toothbrush might become an issue. If not packed properly, your toothbrush can come in contact with all the other things in your bag, leaving it filled with germs and all sorts of other matter that you don’t want to end up in your mouth.

Before we dive into our top choices for travel toothbrushes, let’s take a peek at what you should consider in your search for the perfect toothbrush for traveling.

Hundreds of top-tier travel toothbrushes will make maintaining your oral hygiene on the go easier than ever. Before we explore which options are our favorites, let’s look at what should be the determining factors when choosing the perfect travel toothbrush.

Travel toothbrush

Size and portability should be considered first and foremost when choosing the right toothbrush. For example, if you travel with a full-size travel cosmetic bag, you can choose a full-size toothbrush . On the other hand, some travelers prefer a minimalist style of packing. If that’s the case for you, selecting a compact or smaller size may work best for your packing needs.

Manual or Electric

Manual or electric travel toothbrush

If you already have an electric toothbrush at home, you might feel like a manual toothbrush for traveling feels like a downgrade . This is understandable since electric toothbrushes are proven to control tooth decay better.

Hot Tip: Keep in mind that if you’re planning a long-term travel experience, it might be appropriate to pack something that doesn’t need batteries or charging.

Dual Voltage

Even if you’re planning to stay in 1 country on your journey, it’s still a good idea to find a toothbrush that can adjust to different voltages. This is important, especially if you’re traveling to a place that has a higher voltage than what you’re accustomed to.

Some of the newer toothbrushes come with a dual-voltage option that automatically adjusts according to the power outlet they’re plugged into , which makes traveling much easier. If your toothbrush doesn’t have this feature, make sure you pack a voltage converter as well.

Travel toothbrush design

The ever-popular folding travel toothbrush is a travel enthusiast’s favorite . When assembled, the design takes up half the space of a standard-sized toothbrush without sacrificing the comfort of use when fully expanded.

Many of the best folding toothbrushes come with a carrying case that closes tightly to keep your bristles clean and bacteria-free.

The battery is one of the most important factors to consider when it comes to electric toothbrushes. Ideally, you want a toothbrush that is rechargeable and can last a week or 2 on a single charge . Battery-operated toothbrushes are not as appealing as rechargeable ones, but they are often cheaper.

Antimicrobial Properties

Picking a toothbrush with antimicrobial properties is key, particularly if you pitch your toothbrush into the depths of your toiletry bag when you come and go.

Antimicrobial strands hinder bacterial growth between uses , keeping your mouth as healthy as possible.

Bristle Variety

Travel toothbrush bristles

There are 3 options for toothbrush bristles: soft, medium, and hard. Most people prefer a medium-bristle toothbrush . If you have a tendency to brush your teeth forcefully, you might want to choose a softer bristle to help protect your gums and enamel.

Pay attention to the bristle material when picking a new travel toothbrush. Nylon bristles are the most common, but if you have sensitive gums, doctors suggest opting for a toothbrush with softer bristles like polyester.

Hot Tip: Check out our guides to the best travel toiletry bags for men and women , as well as the best travel Dopp kits for men .

Each brush comes with its own travel case, which means you won’t have to worry about keeping your toothbrush sanitary while on the go . Another amazing feature of this toothbrush is that it is specifically designed to be gentle on braces, implants, veneers, and sensitive teeth.

7 Best Travel Toothbrushes of 2023

putting travel toothbrush into toiletry bag in hotel bathroom

Traveling can be stressful, but having the right travel gear can make all the difference. One essential item (that I’ve forgotten more times than I’d like to admit) is a travel toothbrush. Don’t be like me. Avoid the gum-killing bristles of the complimentary hotel toothbrushes and pack one of these travel toothbrushes to keep your smile bright and shiny instead.

We spent hours researching and testing various travel toothbrushes to find the ones that offer the best combo of portability and performance. In this article, we’ll share our favorite picks and explain why we think they’re the top options for anyone looking for the best travel toothbrush for their next trip.

Best Travel Toothbrushes

Oral hygiene should be a top priority, especially when you’re indulging in extra sugary food and drink on your vacay. (Hello, Mai Tais, and that extra scoop of gelato!) That’s why we’ve put together a list of the best travel toothbrushes that are compact, lightweight, and easy to pack.

Whether you’re going on a weekend trip or a long vacation, these toothbrushes will help you keep your teeth clean and healthy. So without further ado, here are our top picks for the best travel toothbrushes.

Philips One by Sonicare Battery Toothbrush

Philips One by Sonicare Battery Toothbrush

If you’re looking for an ultra-portable travel electric toothbrush to keep your smile bright on the go, Philips One by Sonicare is an awesome option.

The tapered, soft bristles massage your gums and gently polish teeth for a brighter smile.

The 2 Minute Timer with 30-second notifications ensures that you brush your teeth for the recommended time.

The Philips One is sleek and lightweight, so you can easily fit it in a compact travel case.

The toothbrush’s vibration is noticeably weaker than the rechargeable version of the Sonicare toothbrush.

The case doesn’t always stay latched well.

Soft bristles may not work for those who prefer a medium bristle toothbrush or harder.

We’ve been using Philips One by Sonicare for a few weeks now and we’re impressed with its performance. The toothbrush is designed with you in mind, and it’s a big step up from manual brushing. The micro-vibrations and tapered bristles made of soft nylon gently polish teeth for a brighter smile. We also like that we can take our manual brushing experience to the next level by pairing regular brush motions with bristle micro-vibrations.

The 2 Minute Timer with 30-second notifications ensures that we brush our teeth for the recommended time. The battery life is great, lasting up to 3 months. The One is made to travel so we can get that clean feeling in any place. It’s sleek and lightweight and fits neatly into a compact travel case.

One thing to keep in mind is that the bristles on the Sonicare One are softer than other Sonicare toothbrushes, and the vibration is very soft compared to the rechargeable Sonicare toothbrush. Also, the case doesn’t always stay latched, so watch out for that when packing it.

Overall, we think Philips One by Sonicare is a great option for those who want a portable electric toothbrush. It’s lightweight, compact, and easy to take on the go. Plus, you can subscribe and save on genuine Philips One brush head replacements and save up to 15%.

Voom Sonic Go 1 Series Sonic Toothbrush

Voom Sonic Go 1 Series Sonic Toothbrush

If you’re looking for a portable and efficient toothbrush, the Voom Sonic Go 1 Series Sonic Toothbrush is definitely worth considering.

The toothbrush is dentist-recommended and has a vented cap for hygiene, keeping mold and mildew from growing.

It’s stylish looking, with an elegant and sleek design.

The toothbrush packs a punch, with 22,000 strokes per minute and one AAA battery that lasts for a long time.

It’s available with soft nylon bristles.

The brush head is a bit large, making it difficult to clean hard-to-reach areas.

Batteries are difficult to replace.

The Voom Sonic Go 1 Series Sonic Toothbrush is a great option for those who are looking for a portable and efficient toothbrush. It’s dentist-recommended and has a vented cap for hygiene, keeping your toothbrush clean and free from mold and mildew growth. This toothbrush looks good, too with its sleek design.

One of the best things about the Voom Sonic Go 1 Series Sonic Toothbrush is that it packs a punch. It has 22,000 strokes per minute and one AAA battery that lasts for a long time, making it a great option for those who are always on the go.

There are a few downsides to the Voom Sonic Go 1. If you’re wanting medium or harder bristles you’re out of luck, as it’s only available with soft bristles. Also, the clunky brush head makes it difficult to use in the back of your mouth in hard-to-reach areas. When it’s time to replace batteries, that can be a bit of a challenge.

Overall, if you’re looking for a portable and efficient toothbrush, the Voom Sonic Go 1 Series Sonic Toothbrush is definitely worth considering.

Go Sonic Electric Toothbrush

Pop Sonic Electric Toothbrush

We recommend purchasing the Go Sonic Electric Toothbrush for its compact design and powerful cleaning capabilities.

The lightweight, compact design makes it easy to take on the go.

The two-speed settings and high-quality bristles provide a thorough cleaning.

This battery-operated toothbrush comes with a replacement brush head, AAA battery, and instruction manual for convenience.

The toothbrush may not be as powerful as other electric toothbrushes on the market.

The bristles may be too soft for those who prefer a firmer brush.

The toothbrush may not last as long as other electric toothbrushes.

We recently tried the Go Sonic Electric Toothbrush and were impressed with its compact design and powerful cleaning capabilities. The toothbrush features two-speed settings with vibrations from 15,000 to 30,000 brush strokes per minute, providing a thorough cleaning with just a few strokes. The toothbrush is also contoured with a quadrant pacer and a 2-minute timer, ensuring you brush for the recommended time.

The Go Sonic Electric Toothbrush is also designed with long-lasting DuPont nylon bristles that are soft enough for sensitive gums yet flexible enough for hard-to-reach areas. The toothbrush comes with a replacement brush head, AAA battery, and instruction manual, making it convenient for travel.

While the toothbrush may not be as powerful as other electric toothbrushes on the market, we found it to be effective in cleaning our teeth and keeping our breath fresh all day long. However, the bristles may be too soft for those who prefer a firmer brush, and the toothbrush may not last as long as other electric toothbrushes.

Overall, we recommend the Go Sonic Electric Toothbrush for its compact design and powerful cleaning capabilities.

Quip Electric Toothbrush

Quip Electric Toothbrush Travel Kit

If you prefer a battery-powered toothbrush with an easy subscription service, then check out the Quip Electric toothbrush travel kit.

Easy subscription service delivers brush heads to your door for a low cost and easy set-up.

Provides gentle, sonic vibrations and gives 30-second notifications and has a 2-minute timer to help you brush the proper length of time.

Includes a travel mount to keep your toothbrush clean on the go.

The toothbrush only vibrates and does not rotate, resulting in a gentle cleaning experience that users preferring a more vigorous brushing style do not like

It’s pricier than other travel toothbrushes

If you forget to order brush head refills, they are much more expensive at the store

We love the Quip toothbrush. In fact, my daughter uses a Quip as her daily toothbrush and it is going on two years of use with only one battery change. It’s an awesome toothbrush, and I love how easy it is to set up a subscription service for brush heads. The included travel mount with this option is perfect for transitioning from home to travel.

The gentle vibrations, 30-second notifications, and 2-minute timer encourage great oral hygiene and help prevent tooth decay when used properly. Do take note that the vibrations are gentle and might not be as strong as compared to rotating head toothbrushes or a similar rechargeable toothbrush. The convenience of the battery-operated toothbrush makes up for that, especially if you’re only using it once and a while for travel.

The price point of this toothbrush is higher than other battery-operated travel toothbrush options, that’s why I love the idea of using it both at home and on the go. If you want to minimize your footprint and have less stuff, then the Quip is an awesome option.

Lingito Travel Toothbrush

Lingito Travel Toothbrush

If you’re looking for an affordable and practical travel toothbrush, the Lingito Travel Toothbrush is worth considering.

We love the compact design that easily fits into any travel kit or purse.

The firm grip handle is sturdy and durable, making it a reliable option for travel.

The toothbrush folds into itself, keeping it clean and hygienic without the need for a separate cover.

The toothbrush head is a bit small, which may take some getting used to for those who prefer larger brush heads.

The lack of a locking mechanism means that the toothbrush may occasionally collapse while brushing.

Some users have reported that the bristles are not as soft as they would like.

Overall, the Lingito Travel Toothbrush is a solid choice for anyone in need of a reliable and affordable manual toothbrush. Its narrow head makes it easy to get in hard-to-reach places and is ideal for kids, teens or adults with smaller mouths. Its compact design makes it easy to toss in a purse or backpack.

It does have a few downsides, like the extra small brush head, a sometimes faulty locking system, and coarser bristles, but the pros of this toothbrush make it a solid pick.

GUM Folding Travel Toothbrush

GUM Folding Travel Toothbrush

If you’re looking for a compact and practical travel toothbrush, the GUM Folding Travel Toothbrush is a great option.

The tri-fold design allows for easy storage and portability.

The multi-level bristles and tongue cleaner provide a thorough total-mouth cleaning.

This 6-pack of toothbrushes is a bargain.

The plastic case may be a bit flimsy.

The bristles may be too soft for some users.

We recently used the GUM Folding Travel Toothbrush on a weekend trip and were pleased with its performance. The tri-fold design made it super easy to pack and store, and the toothbrush itself felt sturdy and well-made. The multi-level bristles provided a thorough cleaning, and the tongue cleaner was a nice added bonus. And since this pack includes 6 manual toothbrushes, you’re getting a bargain!

However, we did notice that the plastic case felt a bit flimsy and may not hold up well over time. Additionally, the bristles may be too soft for those who prefer a firmer toothbrush.

Overall, we would recommend the GUM Folding Travel Toothbrush for its portability and thorough cleaning capabilities, but keep in mind its potential limitations.

Radius Tour Travel Toothbrush

Radius Tour Travel toothbrush

If you’re looking for a 2-in-1 eco-friendly travel toothbrush and case, then you’ll love the Radius Tour Travel brush.

The wood-based reusable handle and vegetable-based bristles are eco-friendly and petroleum product free

Includes travel case to keep your toothbrush clean and dry during travel

This compact toothbrush easily folds up for easy packing

The brush head is large and could be uncomfortable for smaller mouths

The toothbrush handle sometimes collapses during use

The Radius Tour Travel Toothbrush is one of our favorite manual toothbrushes while traveling. The eco-friendly features make this toothbrush stand out among other disposable toothbrushes. Also, the replaceable head is available in 3 bristle strengths: soft floss, soft and medium bristle strength.

Just be prepared for a large brush head that might not work well in smaller mouths at getting the hard-to-reach areas. The handle is known to collapse at times, as well, which can be frustrating.

Overall, if you love the idea of folding toothbrushes but what one that is better for the environment, then this is the travel toothbrush for you.

Greenzla Bamboo Toothbrush Kit

Greenzla Travel toothbrushes

The ultimate eco-friendly toothbrush is the zero-waste Greenzla Bamboo Toothbrush.

The toothbrush is made of natural bamboo and is biodegradable and compostable, meaning no waste.

This complete travel kit includes 4 toothbrushes, a travel case, and charcoal dental floss.

The charcoal-infused bristles help to remove stains.

Bristles are coarser than other toothbrushes and can cause the gum line to bleed on some individuals

The bamboo case can crack easily

Some users reported mold growing when kept moist in the case.

This Greenzla Bamboo Toothbrush Kit is the best travel toothbrush for those wanting a zero-waste option. It is made of natural bamboo and is completely biodegradable and compostable, so you aren’t contributing to landfills. The charcoal-infused bristles are said to help remove stains from teeth. And you’re getting a deal, as this kit includes 4 toothbrushes, a travel case and charcoal dental floss!

However, if you’re wanting a gentle clean, be prepared for the coarse bristles. Also, since it’s made of bamboo and natural materials, it can crack and mold easier than other manual toothbrushes.

This is the best travel toothbrush kit for the eco-conscious traveler. We love its low environmental impact and definitely recommend it.

Buying Guide

travel toothbrush firm

When it comes to finding the best travel toothbrush, there are a few factors to consider to ensure you choose the ideal product for your needs. Here are some key features to look for:

Size and Portability

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a travel toothbrush is its size and portability. A good travel toothbrush should be compact and lightweight, making it easy to pack in your luggage or carry-on bag. Look for toothbrushes that fold, that come with a travel case or cover to protect the bristles and keep the toothbrush clean and hygienic.

Bristle Type

The type of bristles on a travel toothbrush can vary, with some toothbrushes featuring soft bristles and others featuring medium or hard bristles. Softer bristles are generally recommended by dentists as they are gentle on the teeth and gums, while hard bristles can be too abrasive and cause damage to the tooth enamel. Consider your personal preference and dental needs when choosing a toothbrush with the right bristle type.

Toothbrush Head Size

Travel toothbrushes are available with different-sized heads. If the toothbrush head is too large, it will be hard to reach those teeth and gums at the back of your mouth. Take into account the size of your mouth when choosing your travel toothbrush.

Power Source

If you use an electric toothbrush daily, it’s important to consider the power source when choosing your travel toothbrush. Some electric toothbrushes are rechargeable, while others require batteries. Rechargeable toothbrushes can be more convenient as you don’t need to worry about carrying extra batteries, but they may require a power source to charge, which can be difficult to find when traveling. And then you’re also stuck traveling with the charging base, taking up more space in your toiletry bag.

Additional Features

Some travel toothbrushes come with additional features, such as built-in timers or pressure sensors to help you brush your teeth more effectively. Others may have interchangeable brush heads. Some are eco-friendly or biodegradable. Consider which features are important to you and choose a toothbrush that meets your needs.

Overall, when choosing a travel toothbrush, it’s important to consider size, bristle type, toothbrush head size, power source, and any additional features that may be important to you. With these factors in mind, you’ll find the perfect toothbrush to keep your smile clean and healthy while on the go.

Wrapping-Up

We hope this buying guide helped you find the best travel toothbrush for your next trip. Taking care of your teeth is of utmost importance for your overall health. Don’t settle for a crummy toothbrush while traveling. Choose one that will clean your teeth well, keep your gums healthy, and keep your smile bright for all those selfies you’ll be taking on your vacation!

Ask the Strategist: Can You Help Me Find a Travel Toothbrush?

travel toothbrush firm

In our advice column, Ask the Strategist , we take your most burning shopping questions and scour friends, call up experts, and draw from personal experience to answer them. As always, please comment with one of your own — we’re here to help.

Question: I’m looking for a good travel toothbrush . Doesn’t have to be electric; I prefer manual for travel. Open to suggestions, though!

In the early morning hours of April 13, I flew to Mexico City for a bachelorette party. Traveling with me, packed away at the bottom of my toiletry bag , was a full-size toothbrush with its bristles wrapped beneath a few squares of toilet paper. Embarrassing to admit, I know.

The thing is that I’d actually bought a travel toothbrush the month before for a different trip , but it was one of those mini-toothbrushes encased in a plastic cover , and something about its cheap Duane Reade–ness and the way water just kind of sat around the bristles and soaked in that plastic trapper made me think it was growing mold and germs . I threw the whole thing out when I got home.

So, anyway, we land in Mexico City first thing in the morning, and one of the girls I ended up rooming with pulls out a travel toothbrush that makes me reconsider every bathroom hygiene product I’ve ever purchased. I nearly just went ahead and trashed my toilet-paper toothbrush. This thing was the platonic ideal of a travel toothbrush. So concise, so practical, so exactly what you’re looking for in an on-the-go mouth cleaner. Everyone on the trip who saw it ended up asking her about it. She told us that she learned of it from a friend who used to live in Berlin.

travel toothbrush firm

It’s called the Tour Travel Toothbrush, and it was designed by a company called Radius, which was founded in 1980 by two architects who set out to design a better toothbrush (their first design, the Original , is displayed at the Smithsonian Institute National Design Museum). The Tour, released in 2015, is the company’s most recent design, and it works like this: When opened, it’s exactly the size of your typical toothbrush, but the Tour’s handle is hollow. When you’re finished brushing, the hollow handle opens up, the top half of the toothbrush folds back, and voilà! The whole thing collapses on itself into a perfectly packaged and manageable little device. No separate covers. No soak-y germs. Radius calls it a jackknife design, and it’s exactly how a travel toothbrush should be packaged. How no one came up with the idea earlier will remain a wonder of modern science.

You’ll notice that the Tour’s bristles are atypical in that they’re not rectangular, but rather oval. That’s because the bristles here, and on all Radius brushes, are twice as soft as your average toothbrush. To accommodate for that, there are far more of them, ready to reach every nook and cranny of your mouth without irritating your gums, no matter how vigorously you brush.

It’s also travel-friendly. The SURI Sonic Toothbrush is about half the size of conventional electric toothbrushes, so you’ll barely notice it in your bag. It’s available with a slimline travel case that recharges the toothbrush and kills bacteria using a built-in UV light. And it boasts a 40-day battery life.

These features don’t come at the expense of performance, though. The SURI Sonic Toothbrush delivers an impressive 33,000 sonic vibrations per minute—take that, plaque!

Four SURI Sonic toothbrushes rest on a towel on a sink.

My Real-World Experience with SURI Sonic Toothbrush

The SURI Sonic Toothbrush was almost ready to go out of the box. Mine came with the electric toothbrush handle in the “morning waves” color (an earthy blue-gray), one brush head, a mount that attaches to the bathroom mirror with a sticky strip of tape, a thumb-size charging base, and a USB-C-powered charging case for travel. I plugged it into the charger and forgot about it for a couple of hours until bedtime rolled around.

That’s when I gave the SURI Sonic Toothbrush a whirl for the first time. I pressed the button once and an LED light lit up white to indicate it was in everyday clean mode (you can press the button again to get a more powerful “polish” mode). It immediately started buzzing and I used it to brush in small circles on every tooth. The gentle vibration tickled my gum line but still delivered a powerful blast of plaque-busting vibrations on every tooth. It temporarily paused every 30 seconds to indicate that I could move to the next quadrant of my mouth and turned off automatically after 2 minutes (the amount of time the American Dental Association recommends to brush your teeth).

I rinsed my mouth, ran my tongue over my teeth, and it felt like I had just gotten a dental cleaning in my own home. I even noticed a visible difference in how clean and polished my teeth looked after using the SURI Sonic Toothbrush. It was such an improvement, I was grossed out by how ineffective all my old toothbrushes were in comparison. I ran to my partner and told him he needed one of these toothbrushes, stat!

A traveler packs his SURI Sonic Toothbrush (the best electric toothbrush for travelers) into its compact travel case.

The SURI Sonic Toothbrush makes me look forward to brushing my teeth every morning and evening. But more than just useful at home, it turned out to be an amazing travel electric toothbrush, as well! At first, I was a little worried it would add a lot of bulk to my toiletries kit. Luckily, the relatively slim case slipped into my bag with no issue and I didn’t even notice the extra weight in my carry-on. I loved having it on hand to freshen up between flights—it made my mouth feel so much cleaner than my old travel toothbrush.

The fact that the SURI Sonic Toothbrush’s battery lasts for 40 days also gave me some much-needed peace of mind. After all, the last thing I need to do as I’m scrambling to pack everything I need for a trip is to remember to charge my toothbrush. The battery never died while I was traveling. And even if it had, the travel case can juice up the battery using a USB-C charger—something I always travel with anyway.

Pros & Cons of SURI Sonic Toothbrush

The SURI Sonic Toothbrush won me over for its powerful cleaning capabilities and travel-friendly design. But no product is perfect, so let’s take a look at the pros and cons of this travel electric toothbrush.

Pros of SURI Sonic Toothbrush

Powerful cleaning: Creating 33,000 sonic vibrations per minute, this travel electric toothbrush made my teeth feel as clean as they do after a trip to the dentist.

Portable & travel friendly: The SURI Sonic Toothbrush is slim, lightweight, and able to be packed into a compact travel case for on-the-go oral hygiene.

Long battery life: Plugging in this travel electric toothbrush once a month is more than enough to keep the battery going.

Sustainable: From the case and components to the brush heads, the SURI Sonic Toothbrush is fully recyclable.

Beautiful design: Between its four pretty colors and its pebble-patterned case and mount, the SURI Sonic Toothbrush is gorgeous.

Includes three medium/soft replacement brush heads for the best travel electric toothbrush

Cons of SURI Sonic Toothbrush

Cost: The SURI Sonic Toothbrush costs $92. That’s double to triple other electric toothbrushes. The price tag shoots up to $116 if you want the travel case (a must-have if you want a travel electric toothbrush, in my opinion!).

One-year warranty: SURI offered a lifetime warranty to early subscription customers, but that ended on June 30, 2024. Now it covers products for one year. Considering the relatively high price of the toothbrush, I wish this warranty was longer.

Case must be plugged in to kill bacteria: I love the travel case, but I was surprised that its bacteria-killing UV light only works when it’s plugged into the USB-C charger. That makes it harder to use this feature while traveling.

Final Verdict: Is the SURI Sonic Toothbrush Worth It?

The price of the SURI Sonic Toothbrush is high, but I think it’s worth it for its supremely slim and portable design, powerful cleaning capabilities, sustainable features, and super long battery life. It’s the perfect companion for a digital nomad or frequent traveler who might not be able to get to a dental cleaning as often as they’d like—or just wants a sparkling smile anywhere they go.

My teeth have never felt cleaner since I started using the SURI—it's like having a personal dentist in my carry-on, minus the lecture about flossing. I guarantee you'll find this travel electric toothbrush in my toiletry kit on every trip.

This article originally appears in the July 2016 issue of ELLE.

Since launching Aquazzura in 2011, Edgardo Osorio has received recognition for pieces that walk the line between footwear and works of art. In his downtime, the 30-year-old native of Colombia seeks design inspiration from foreign locales. Most recently, he set his sights on Saint Petersburg: "It's one of those incredible cities that really leave an impression on you," Osorio says. Before packing his bags, he dove into books about the city's history by Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Robert K. Massie. "Read about Catherine the Great, Peter the Great, and Russian culture before you go so that you get to experience it personally," he says. Indeed, when Osorio returned to his Florence home base, he created a fall 2016 collection that included a riff on the cowboy boot with embroidery that's a nod to the city's opulent architecture.

Furniture, Table, Dish, Design, Garden, Collage, Linens, Landscaping, Outdoor structure, Couch,

The Four Seasons Lion Palace. Offering views of Aleksandrovsky Garden and a stone's throw from the Hermitage—one of the world's great art museums—the hotel, a former royal palace, is the definition of luxe digs, with rooms starting at $410 per night. The lobby's interior has been restored to its original 1820s grandeur, and the four-level Luceo Spa offers ultra indulgent treatments that include gold-extract body scrubs. "Ask for a room with a terrace overlooking Saint Isaac's Cathedral," Osorio says.

While the designer reports that caviar and vodka was his go-to dinner combination ( when in Rome... ), lunch was all about a meal at Mansarda. Designed by Piuarch studio, the architectural firm behind Dolce & Gabbana's Milan offices, the ultra sleek restaurant features a delicious selection of Italian and sushi dishes.

Waterway, Watercraft, Bank, Channel, Palace, River, Boats and boating--Equipment and supplies, Mixed-use, Classical architecture, Tourist attraction,

Adding "museum hopping" to the itinerary was a no-brainer for Osorio. At the gigantic Hermitage—it occupies more than 2 million square feet— he concentrated on the ornate Russian interior decoration of the nineteenth to early twentieth centuries. (The museum also boasts one of the world's largest collections of Western European art.) Also on the agenda: a visit to the Fabergé Museum and a well-worth-it, 30-minute drive south of central Saint Petersburg to the Catherine Palace, the former home of Empress Elizabeth that's known for its Amber Room, decked out in amber panels, gold leaf, and mirrors. After the palace, the designer made his way to Saint Isaac's Cathedral, one of the largest churches in the city."If you visit the cathedral after spending the day at the palace," Osorio advises, "you can watch the sun set while walking up the stairs."

After dinner one night, it was off to the River Neva, where, at 2 a.m., Osorio met up with longtime friends who live in the city for a riverboat tour. The group got to take in the White Nights of Saint Petersburg, a phenomenon that occurs from late May to early July, when the sun never fully sets due to the city's latitude. "It was like Paris meets Venice," he says. Several riverboat companies offer such cruises—you can book tours in advance for as little as $10.

Manual Toothbrush Healthy Benefits:

  • Using a medium bristled toothbrush will fight plaques and harmful particles from your mouth which makes it healthy. A clean and healthy mouth will prevent harmful particles from entering your lungs, hence, protecting you from getting different respiratory illness as well.
  • Medium bristle toothbrushes are recommended by dentists because they are gentle on teeth and gums while effectively fighting particles and plaque. This is a toothbrush soft bristle that is useful for both your kids and you adults and is able to brush your teeth and gums without irritation. Hard bristle toothbrushes can irritate gums and cause bleeding.
  • Medium bristled toothbrushes will not be too hard on your teeth's enamels. Hard bristled toothbrushes will wear away your enamels which will make it weaker and eventually cause you a great amount of pain. Harder bristles will also put an additional force on your teeth, nicking away at the integrity. Toothpaste already contains chemicals that is rough on the teeth, so don’t make it worse by using a hard bristled toothbrush into the mix
