Safari World is a popular destination in Bangkok and attracts a lot of families, especially during weekends and public holidays. If you're planning a trip to Bangkok and want to visit Safari World, we would recommend that you make your visit during the weekdays. The crowd will be much lesser during weekdays since the local families would not be visiting the park.

Safari World is a mostly open attraction and involves a fair bit of walking around. We would recommend heading to the Safari Park as early as possible to avoid the sun. In the afternoon you can visit the Marine World and escape the sun for a bit. Overall, though, we would suggest visiting Bangkok and Safari World in December or January for the most pleasant weather. If you're planning to attend the live shows, make sure you're aware of their timings because some shows do overlap and you'll have to pick the one you wish to see more.

If you're not looking for a full meal, there are two fast food restaurants where you can stop for a quick bite. There are wagons serving ice cream, snacks and beverages located throughout the park as well.

  • The open Safari Park can be explored on a private taxi as well, if you find that more convenient. Do ensure that you negotiate with the driver to get the best deal possible.
  • Safari World Bangkok can be experienced in all its entirety in around 6 hours. If this your first trip to Bangkok, you'll have a lot of other attractions to visit. Plan your trip keeping aside half a day for Safari World Bangkok.
  • If you're traveling in a group of 3 to 4 people, opt for a taxi or Grab car to explore Safari Park to save money on taxi fare.
  • Bangkok weather is quite hot and humid for most of the year and the same is true for Safari World as well. To make your time at the park as comfortable as possible, wear a light outfit and pair it with comfortable walking shoes.
  • You'll be out and about in the sun for a considerable amount of time during your Safari World experience. Remember to bring your sunglasses and apply plenty of sunscreen to avoid getting tanned.
  • Safari World Bangkok has a lot of different sections and it's easy to get lost and miss out on some of the amazingness the park houses. Get a map of the park at the entrance to make navigation in the different sections a breeze
  • The restaurants get pretty packed during lunch hour so reach the restaurants a little early to avoid waiting in line for your turn. Also, the buffet restaurants closes at 2:00 PM so plan your time accordingly.

If ur visiting Bangkok with kids make sure u visit Safari World. It's a full day adventure park. It has a lot of activities to do with not a moment to spare. Make sure u reach here at opening time bcoz it gets too crowded plus all d shows are at fixed timings, if u miss them it's no use going here. Our personal favourite was the dolphin show and the spy show. Don't miss them. There's also elephant, orangutan, bird and a lot many shows. There's also a huge walk by zoo. As u walk from one show to another there's a lot of animals to see. There's giraffe feeding too. All in all a day full of entertainment and fun for d kids. Many tickets include lunch too. We ate at Indian restaurant. Food was good, amazing veg choices too. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes because it gets really hot due to the crowd. U cannot carry ur own water inside, have to buy it from their stalls. Carry sunglasses too.

KhushbuMehta, Tripadvisor 2019

If you want to see different animals trained in the art of entertainment, then safari world and marine park is one to visit. Such nice animals including giraffes, elephants, walrus, seals and many more open for interacting with people. More dangerous animals available for viewing behind safe measures. Multie shows throughout the day including a boxing match between Orangutans. Definitely a good day spender.

Thai authorities were quick to stress they believed the incident involved a personal dispute and did not reflect any threat to foreign visitors.

Thai police believe the six — four Vietnamese nationals, and two U.S. citizens of Vietnamese heritage — died of cyanide poisoning motivated by a dispute over an investment. Forensic evidence and police interviews with relatives of the dead are said to support their hypothesis.

In this photo released by the Royal Thai Police, uneaten meals are left on a table in a room in the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel room where six people were found dead from unknown causes, Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Police said the dead in a rooms at Bangkok's Grand Hyatt Hotel were two Vietnamese Americans and four Vietnamese nationals, and speculated they might have died from some kind of poisoning. (Royal Thai Police via AP)

Here’s a look at what we know so far — and how.

What were some of the clues at the crime scene?

Police were alerted on Tuesday afternoon that six bodies, three men and three women, had been found in a fifth-floor hotel room in the five-star Grand Hyatt Erawan, in the heart of Bangkok’s tourism district.

The six — some of whom were staying in other rooms in the same hotel — had been scheduled to check out that day or the day before. Security footage showed that the group had gathered in one room on Monday with their packed luggage.

The room’s locked front door and security camera footage showed that no one else had entered the room after hotel staff delivered the meals on Monday afternoon.

The bodies were found scattered, some in the living room and some in the bedroom, suggesting it was not a ritual suicide. There were also no signs of theft, the suitcases were unopened.

Police also found a table full of uneaten room service meals, and six teacups whose contents had apparently been consumed. They noticed an unidentified sediment in the cups.

The police also said there were no signs of struggle and no injuries on the bodies, leading them to suspect poisoning as the cause of death.

What did the forensic evidence show?

When police analyzed the sediment in the teacups, they found traces of the deadly poison cyanide. Initial results from autopsies, performed at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn Hospital, also turned up traces of cyanide in all six bodies.

Forensic specialists said that their organs showed signs of asphyxiation — an effect of cyanide poisoning — supporting the conclusion that the fast-acting poison was likely the cause of death. But they cautioned that a detailed analysis must be performed to confirm the finding.

It’s Thailand’s second highly publicized case of alleged cyanide poisoning in as many years. Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, or “Am Cyanide” as she was nicknamed in the media, was accused last year of killing at least 14 people to whom she owed money over the course of years. A 15th was also poisoned but survived.

Who killed whom, and why?

Police say they are still investigating, but they’ve made it clear that they’re focusing on a Vietnamese American woman who may have had a financial dispute with two other people in the room.

Police said they believed one of the six carried out the killings before committing suicide, but did not name the suspect.

However, they said one of the two Vietnamese Americans, Sherine Chong, was the only person in the room when the room service food was delivered on Monday, and that she had refused the staff’s offer to brew the tea, saying she would do it herself.

They said that a Vietnamese couple who were among the dead had invested about 10 million baht ($278,000) with Chong and a Vietnamese woman in a construction project that had not shown any progress, and they may have been meeting to resolve a dispute about the project. The investment was said to have been connected to the construction of a hospital in Japan.

It was unclear whether the two other people whose bodies were found were part of the dispute.

Who were the 6 people who died?

Thai police identified the dead as two U.S. citizens — Sherine Chong, 56; and Dang Hung Van, 55 — and four Vietnamese nationals — Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan, 47; Pham Hong Thanh, 49; Tran Dinh Phu, 37; and Nguyen Thi Phuong, 46.

Little personal information has emerged about the six, though Vietnamese media reported that Phu is a prominent makeup artist from the central city of Da Nang who works under the professional name Phu Gia Gia, and who told his family that he was making a three-day work trip to Thailand.

What has been the reaction of the governments involved?

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin went to the crime scene just hours after police to say that incident should not affect tourism, which is a major revenue earner for the country.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính instructed the Foreign Ministry to work with Thai officials in investigating the deaths, and to make sure that the safety and rights of Vietnamese citizens are protected.

U.S. State Dept. spokesperson Matthew Miller in Washington offered condolences to the families of the dead. He said the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation and would communicate with local authorities.

He did not say if the FBI would be involved in the investigation, as had been announced by Srettha. The FBI is empowered by U.S. law to investigate crimes committed against U.S. citizens abroad.

6 people found dead in Bangkok Grand Hyatt hotel show signs of cyanide poisoning, hospital says

July 17, 2024 / 5:05 AM EDT / CBS/AP

Bangkok —  Police found traces of cyanide in the cups of six Vietnamese and American guests whose bodies were discovered at a central Bangkok luxury hotel and one of them is believed to have poisoned the others over a bad investment, Thai authorities said Wednesday.

The bodies were found Tuesday in the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, a landmark at a central intersection in the capital busy with malls, government buildings and public transit.

The six had last been seen alive when food was delivered to the room Monday afternoon. The staff saw one woman receive the food, and security footage showed the rest arriving one by one shortly after. There were no other visitors, no one was seen leaving and the door was locked. A maid found them Tuesday afternoon when they failed to check out of the room.

Lt. Gen. Trairong Piwpan, chief of the Thai police force's forensic division, said there were traces of cyanide in the cups and thermoses that police found in the room, and a Thai hospital said later Wednesday that autopsies on the six bodies had found traces of the poison.

Six Dead After Incident Inside Bangkok Hotel.

All the bodies showed traces of the chemical toxin and they had purple lips, suggesting a lack of oxygen, the Reuters news agency cited Chulalongkorn Hospital's Kornkiat Vongpaisarnsin as telling reporters.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cyanide is "a rapidly acting, potentially deadly chemical that interferes with the body's ability to use oxygen." It  can be contained as  gas or a liquid.

Bangkok police chief Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang identified the dead as two Vietnamese Americans and four Vietnamese nationals and said they were three men and three women. Their ages ranged from 37 to 56, according to Noppasin Punsawat, Bangkok deputy police chief. He said the case appeared to be personal and would not impact the safety of tourists.

A husband and wife among the dead had invested money with two of the others, suggesting that money could be a motive, said Noppasin, citing information obtained from relatives of the victims. The investment was meant to build a hospital in Japan and the group might have been meeting to settle the matter.

Bangkok police chief Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang said Tuesday that four bodies were in the living room and two in the bedroom. He said two of them appeared to try to reach for the door but collapsed before they could.

Noppasin said Wednesday that a seventh person whose name was part of the hotel booking was a sibling of one of the six and left Thailand on July 10. Police believe the seventh person had no involvement in the deaths.

THAILAND-CRIME

The Vietnamese and United States embassies have been contacted over the deaths, and the American FBI was en route, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said.

He said the case would likely not affect a conference with Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev at the hotel later Wednesday. "This wasn't an act of terrorism or a breach in security. Everything is fine," he said.

Trairong said a mass suicide was unlikely because some of the victims had arranged future parts of their trip, such as guides and drivers. He added that the bodies being in different parts of the hotel room suggested they did not knowingly consume poison and wait for their deaths together.

U.S. State Dept. spokesman Matthew Miller in Washington offered condolences to the families of the victims. He said the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation and would communicate with local authorities.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with his Thai counterpart on Tuesday, but Miller said he thought that call happened before the deaths were reported and he didn't know if it came up in their conversation.

In 2023, Thailand was rocked by reports of a serial killer who poisoned 15 people with cyanide over a span of years. Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, or "Am Cyanide" as she would later be called, killed at least 14 people who she owed money to and became the country's first female serial killer. One person survived.

Morning Briefing: Europe Edition

Thursday briefing.

President Biden tests positive for Covid-19.

Natasha Frost

By Natasha Frost

President Biden boarding Air Force One.

Biden’s still in but ‘willing to listen,’ Democrats say

President Biden has become more receptive in the last several days to hearing arguments about why he should drop his re-election bid , Democrats said, after Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries, the party’s top leaders in Congress, privately told him they were deeply concerned about his prospects.

The president tested positive for Covid yesterday, according to the White House, forcing him to cancel an event in Las Vegas and most likely sidelining him for days. A spokeswoman said he was “experiencing mild symptoms” and would “carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”

Three weeks after Biden’s disastrous debate performance, allies and supporters continue to press him to quit the race, saying he has little chance to defeat Donald Trump in November. Democratic Party leaders agreed to delay the start of Biden’s nomination by a week, prolonging the debate over the viability of his candidacy.

Quotable: One person close to the president said he was “willing to listen” to the case for dropping out but had no plans to abandon his campaign.

A growing rebellion: Nearly two-thirds of Democratic voters want Biden to quit the race , according to a recent survey. And Congressional Democrats have warned that his sagging prospects will make it much harder for them to win critical House and Senate races in November.

Biden’s mind-set: What would cause the president to drop out of the race? He has offered a list of scenarios — which has recently grown.

New details emerge about Trump’s would-be assassin

In a private call, F.B.I. officials told members of Congress that the gunman who tried to kill Donald Trump had searched for images of Trump and President Biden , as well as for the dates of Trump appearances and the Democratic National Convention. Yet the bureau has found no indication that he had strong partisan political views, based on their analysis of two phones that were among his possessions. Read our analysis of how the gunman slipped past the police .

The director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, will face sharp scrutiny next week over the assassination attempt. She is scheduled to appear before two congressional committees that are examining the shooting, and inquiries by law enforcement departments, Congress and federal agencies are also underway.

Representative Ronny Jackson, Republican of Texas, who was Trump’s White House doctor, described the former president’s injuries . “The bullet took a little bit off the top of his ear in an area that, just by nature, bleeds like crazy,” he said. “The dressing’s bulked up a bit because you need a bit of absorbent. You don’t want to be walking around with bloody gauze on his ear.”

At the Republican National Convention: In a prime-time speech, Donald Trump’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, accepted their party’s nomination for vice president and connected his difficult upbringing to challenges confronting the American working class. Read highlights from the speech .

The Upshot: Times reporters asked 65 convention attendees six questions about their political views .

Britain’s new government lays out its priorities

King Charles III formally opened Britain’s Parliament yesterday, presenting the new Labour government’s center-left legislative agenda, which includes efforts to curb climate change and cultivate closer ties with the E.U.

The new government plans to create two new public companies, Great British Energy, which would invest in clean-energy projects across the country, and Great British Railways, which would put Britain’s private rail companies back into public ownership. And it will no longer exempt private schools from paying value-added tax, using the revenue raised from that to hire 6,500 teachers for public schools.

Poker face: Nothing in the king’s demeanor suggested that he was any more enthusiastic about this year’s agenda than he was about last year’s, even though this one aligns more closely with his stated interests. That’s the product of a lifetime of studied political neutrality, Mark Landler, our London bureau chief, writes.

The best croissant.

In the competitive and often absurd era of extreme croissants , elite pâtissiers around the world are stuffing the pastries with exotic fillings, sculpting them into modish forms and decorating them with fragrant ganache.

But the best croissant, our food critic Tejal Rao writes in this appraisal , has none of these fripperies — just a crisp outside, housing a tender, bubbled interior. A first bite wafts warm, butter-scented air into the face of the eater, she says.

The plain croissant may not be made for the camera. But its simultaneous crispness and softness has a special magic, Tejal writes: “The way it can embody such a mind-boggling extent of textures within just a few bites, from the dark, crackling crisp of its edge, to the pale, weightless puff of its honeycomb.”
