Hail the Sun emerges as a pulsating force within the realm of post-hardcore, infusing their music with raw emotion and all that comes with it. Formed in 2009 in Chico, California, the dynamic quintet comprises Donovan Melero on vocals, Aric Garcia on guitar, John Stirrat on bass, Shane Gann on guitar, and touring drummer Allen Casillas.  

In the early years, Hail the Sun was the band you’d see playing dingy DIY clubs and small dive bars, throwing caution to the wind while catapulting their bodies and instruments every which way. That  same energy has seen them graduate into larger and larger venues while simultaneously cultivating an increasingly diverse and rabid fanbase.   

From their debut ep “Elephantitis” to their later releases like “New Age Filth” and “Divine Inner Tension,” Hail the Sun has consistently pushed the envelope, exploring themes of introspection, existentialism, and human connection. Their lyrics are thoughtful and poetic, exploring the complexities of the human experience with a raw honesty that resonates deeply with listeners.  

Renowned for their stellar live performances, Hail the Sun delivers a powerhouse of energy on stage, captivating audiences with their infectious enthusiasm and musicianship. With each performance, they create an electric atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression on all who witness their sonic assault.  

As they continue to evolve and innovate, Hail the Sun remains at the forefront of the post-hardcore scene, pushing boundaries and challenging conventions with their unique blend of passion, creativity, and relentless determination. They continue to perform within the same vigor as they did in their early years, only now with over 15 years of musical refinement that soothes the ears and cuts through the soul.

HAIL THE SUN Announce North American Tour Dates

Following the release of their album  New Age Filth  this past April,  HAIL THE SUN  have announced they’ll be touring in support of the record this fall across North America. Presented by  Equal Vision Records , the tour will also feature the openers  Kaonashi , who will release their debut album on May 21st via EVR, as well as  Kurt Travis  and  Body Thief .

When HAIL THE SUN entered the studio to record what would become  New Age Filth , they knew they were setting out to make their most collaborative and diverse album yet. Consisting of Donovan Melero (vocals/drums), Aric Garcia (guitar), John Stirrat (bass) and Shane Gann (guitar), the band spent a month living in an apartment attached to producer Kris Crummett ’s (A Lot Like Birds, Nova Charisma, Dance Gavin Dance) studio which provided a much different experience from the creation of prior albums. The ten songs on  New Age Filth  showcase the band’s post-hardcore roots blended with elements of alternative and progressive rock, proving the band’s ability to be extremely technical in instrumentation while also unleashing some of the catchiest hooks they’ve ever created. The lyrics, penned by Melero, center around the theme of reflection, weaving through painful and emotional experiences of love, cynicism, and touching on how awful humans can be to one another. 

Having sold through nine vinyl variants of the album and seeing an overwhelming response from fans and critics alike since the release of the album,   New Age Filth  marks a milestone for HAIL THE SUN . As they prepare to hit the stage performing these songs for the first time live, they are eager to give their audience a dynamic and memorable experience.

They released their second album Wake through the label, which was met with widespread praise from critics.

Culture Scars’ appearance on the Billboard charts saw the group tour in a more serious way, with their most notable performance being at that year’s Vans Warped Tour.

When Hail The Sun entered the studio to record what would become their highly-anticipated fifth full-length album, New Age Filth, they knew they were setting out to release their most ambitious material to date. The band, consisting of Donovan Melero (vocals/drums), Aric Garcia (guitar), John Stirrat (bass) and Shane Gann (guitar), spent five weeks with producer Kris Crummett which resulted in their most collaborative and diverse album yet.

“Domino”, the energetic first single off of the record, showcases the band’s technical prowess with instruments dancing over one another as vocalist Donovan Melero belts out his signature high-pitched vocals. Lyrically, the track centers around reflection of self and how past actions can affect others. On writing “Domino”, Melero stated, “Reflecting is important. What we might discover in reflection can be a hard pill to swallow. I’m only as big as my weakest character flaw. I’m told that I talk a lot in my sleep, and these are the things I think I say.”

Hail the Sun’s New Age Filth includes tracks that are heavier and poppier at the same time, proving their ability to be extremely technical in instrumentation while also unleashing some of the catchiest hooks they’ve ever created. The influence from genre-melding predecessors like Coheed and Cambria, At The Drive-In, and even Yes is apparent, but the sound is still very much a natural evolution from Hail The Sun’s past work.

The shifting musical compositions on New Age Filth perfectly accompany the emotive lyrical outpour found across the album. Continuing along the theme of reflection, Melero weaves through painful and emotional experiences of love, cynicism, and touches on how awful humans can be to one another.
