Zion National Park is the smallest national park in the state of Utah. The landscape is breathtakingly beautiful and is one of the best places to visit in the USA in March. It consists of Zion Canyon through which the Virgin River flows. The river is surrounded by steep red cliffs which is an amazing sight to see. 

What to do in Zion National Park? Zion is a hikers paradise with spectacular hiking trails for all levels. There are some easy trails, like the Pa’rus trail, which follows the river on the bottom of the canyon. If you don’t mind getting wet, you have to hike a section of the Narrows, a breathtaking hike through a narrow canyon. At some point, you have to hike through the river and that is a fantastic experience.

The most popular hike in Zion is to  Angels Landing which is also known as one of the scariest hikes in the United States. During the last section, you have to walk along a narrow trail with deep cliffs on both sides. But once you get to the top, all is forgotten because the views are incredible! In addition to hiking, Zion is perfect for rock climbing and canyoneering. 

Zion National Park is very popular, and can therefore get extremely crowded, especially in the (very hot) summer months. The best time to avoid the crowds is winter and early spring. The month of March is the absolutely perfect time to explore the hiking trails. The temperatures are mild and most of the snow is gone. In addition, it’s very quiet in the park compared to the rest of the year.

The closest international airport is McCarran Airport in Las Vegas. From there, it’s a 2 hour and 45 minute drive to Zion. Just follow the I-15 to the northwest, and get off the highway right after St. George. From there, follow Highway 9 until you reach the park. Super easy!

The Wormsloe Historic Site includes the ruins of a former plantation site, but it is most famous for the 1.5 mile tunnel of cypress trees at the entrance. You will be left in awe as you drive through the tunnel. After the tree tunnel, there are some hiking trails and historic sites to visit. 

Savannah is said to be one of the most haunted cities in America, so it’s no surprise that ghost tours are popular among visitors. You can choose to take a walking tour, go on a bar crawl or take a bus tour around the city while learning the legends of Savannah’s past. Even if you don’t believe in ghosts, it’s a fascinating way to learn about the city.

Washington DC offers an impressive list of national monuments, landmarks, and museums. Most of them are located along the National Mall, a beautifully planned green space from which the city grid begins with streets named by letters and numbers.

First-time visitors should try and stay at least a week in order to explore all of  Washington D.C.’s must-sees . Those include a guided tour of the Capitol and the White House (for American citizens only).

Another unique activity is seeing an erupting volcano. One of the best places for a March getaway in the USA is Las Vegas. It is not just a gambling and party destination. It’s also a great destination for families, couples, solo travelers, and those looking for a fantastic destination to celebrate a 21st birthday .

From museums, art exhibits, gardens, and wildlife habitats to concerts, themed dining, shows, and amusement parks, there’s definitely something for everyone in Las Vegas. The best part is that many of these attractions are free.

If it’s your first time to Vegas , you definitely have to watch the volcano erupt in front of the Mirage Hotel. Performances happen three times daily, are free, and are set to a musical soundtrack.

Then, head over to the Bellagio Conservatory to see their extravagant indoor garden display. These gardens are available to view for free year-round, but the theme and decorations change with each season. The spring display is by far the prettiest of the year, often centering around delicate cherry blossoms and inspiring symbols of life and rebirth.

South Florida National Park Road Trip, Florida

March is the perfect time to take a road trip through southern Florida and visit its’ 3 national parks – Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, and Dry Tortugas National Park. It offers some of the best weather of the year. In addition, it is outside hurricane season so you don’t have to worry about the weather changing your travel plans.

The perfect first stop on your road trip is  Everglades National Park , one of the largest national parks in the continental U.S. The Park itself is magnificent, with cypress and mahogany hammocks, lush shaded trails, walls of mangroves, fields of grass that go on for miles, and epic waterfront sunsets .

And so much wildlife! Take the easy Anhinga Trail to see tons of alligators, birds, and turtles right off of the boardwalk. Then be sure to get on the water either in a boat tour or self-guided kayaks to experience the ”real Florida”.

Biscayne National Park is your next stop on the way to Key West in the Florida Keys. It is tucked away off of south Florida’s coast and is incredibly unique because 95% of the Park is underwater.

Instead of mountains or desert, the Park is made up of several small islands and bordered by a giant mangrove forest. Biscayne National Park also contains the northern part of one of the largest coral reefs in the world. This makes it the perfect place for snorkeling, kayaking, and scuba diving.

Finally, you will drive further south and end your road trip in Key West, the starting point to reach Dry Tortugas National Park. This National Park is located in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, 70 miles off the coast of Key West, Florida. It includes seven islands or “keys” covering 100 square miles of ocean. In addition, it includes the historic Fort Jefferson, coral reefs, endangered migratory birds, and unique tropical ecosystems.

The closest place to stay is in Key West, and because of the extremely remote location the only way to visit is by boat or seaplane. The  ferry to the Dry Tortugas  is the only authorized tour operator traveling to the National Park, providing day trips on an air-conditioned state-of-the-art catamaran.

Dry Tortugas has some of the most beautiful and healthy coral reefs in North America because of its secluded location and visitor restrictions. Most visitors spend the afternoon snorkeling and swimming in the clear blue waters exploring this underwater oasis.

The average temperatures are still cool enough to ward off mosquitos (averaging around 80°F) but warm enough to enjoy the beautiful beaches in all the National Parks.

The closest international airport to all three parks is in Miami. It is about an hour drive to the Everglades and a little over three hours to Key West and the southernmost part of Florida.

The vast majority of visitors to Montana come in the summer months (peak tourist season) or at the height of ski season (December-February). But that hardly makes them the best times to visit the Big Sky State – especially a popular town like Whitefish, MT .

Prices and crowds get out of control during peak season, as sadly, does the fire risk and air pollution in summer. The good news is that March is one of the best times to visit. It is one of the least crowded months in Whitefish, so prices are usually near their lowest. Temperatures are getting more manageable and you can even pick one of the amazing ski resorts and go skiing.

Whitefish is the gateway to Glacier National Park (one of the U.S.’s most popular) and Whitefish Mountain Resort is the second-largest ski resort in Montana. This small-but-mighty town (its population is just 8,000) is also known for its thriving art’s scene, wide variety of food and drink options, and an abundance of outdoor activities.

At any time of year, wandering Whitefish’s charming downtown area is one of the best things to do. It’s packed with shops and art galleries, plus plenty of places to try some huckleberry-flavored treats (a must!). The small history museum inside the train station is worth a look.

Hiking – or snowshoeing, if the conditions call for it – a portion of Whitefish Trail is another top activity. With over a dozen trailheads and nearly 50 miles of trail, hikers can choose nearly any length or difficulty.

Overall, winter temperatures in western Montana are not for the faint-hearted. with average highs of 44. There is only a 25% of rain.

Visitors can fly into Glacier Park International Airport, just 12 miles from town, or take Amtrak right into downtown Whitefish. In either case, it would be difficult to visit without a car. There are rental agencies at the airport and in town.

New Orleans is one of the best March trips in America in March for a number of reasons. The heat of the summer has not yet descended on the city and in many years, Mardi Gras is held. Known for its amazing food, fun festivals, jazz music, and interesting history, New Orleans offers something for everyone.

Mardi Gras is held every year 47 days before Easter. Accordingly, it is in February or early March. Mardi Gras is about music, parades, picnics, floats and excitement. It’s one big holiday in New Orleans!

Sit back and watch or participate. Wear costumes or at least dress in purple, green, and gold, and adorn yourselves with long beads caught from the floats of previous parades.

While visiting New Orleans, you have to try the delicious food that made New Orleans famous. Grab some Cajun food at Evangeline, beignets at Café du Monde, a po’boy sandwich from Killer Po’boys, and a muffuletta from Napoleon House. 

Once you are ready to explore, spend time walking around the French Quarter, in particular the infamous Bourbon Street, taking in all of the European architecture. You will be entertained almost everywhere you go with fun and very talented street performers.

With temperatures hovering around 70F highs and desert lows at night not exceeding 45F, it’s the perfect time to pop out the tank tops. It’s almost always sunny in arid Southern California. 

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the most accessible international airport from which to arrive. From there, a car is necessary as there is little public transportation to the depths of the Southern California Desert. 

Catherine says, “As the third-largest National Park in the USA, it’s best to try and stay at least one night in Death Valley. The Furnace Creek Campground is an excellent middle-ground for the next day’s activities, with Stovepipe Wells as an alternative.

On your way out, detour to other hidden gem desert landscapes like Trona Pinnacles or Fossil Falls.”

Phoenix, Arizona

Located in south central Arizona just 180 miles from the Mexican border, Phoenix makes for one of the best American cities to visit in March. Often overcrowded in the winter months of December through February, and scorching hot in the summer months, March marks the first real relief for tourists who venture here in the off-season.

With fantastic weather, you can take advantage of hiking Phoenix’s iconic Camelback Mountain peak. Known for its spectacular panoramic views of the city, you’ll be able to capture some wonderful photos to commemorate your trip. 

Those looking for a more relaxing day, you can hit the shops in the Scottsdale Fashion Square or wander the halls of the impressive Phoenix Art Museum. Art connoisseurs who enjoy works from the Renaissance are sure to appreciate this vast collection of stunning pieces. There are also numerous golf resorts to be enjoyed, just don’t forget your sunblock!

If possible, try to plan your trip around the Phoenix Scottish Games celebrating all things Scottish or the Arizona Renaissance Festival, a medieval amusement park, which take place in the month of March. Both bring in thousands of people each year, so be prepared for a little less elbow room if you do decide to visit Phoenix during these times. 

If you plan on visiting for at least a few days, then brush up on some Spanish  and combine it with a trip to Mexico.

The weather averages in the low-70s (Fahrenheit) with a low chance of rain and over 12 hours of daily sunlight.

To get to Phoenix, visitors can fly directly into the city’s Sky Harbor International Airport. It is a 10-minute drive to the city center.

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Hilton Head Island is a beautiful place to visit in any season, but it is one of the best American vacations in March.

One popular attraction is the annual Wine & Food Festival. Come here for Lowcountry food, craft beer, and of course, wine tastings. There is even live music and entertainment. 

Another fun thing to do in Hilton Head is to visit Harbour Town. This is arguably the most well-known attraction on the island. Located on the waterfront, you can climb to the top of the historical lighthouse in Harbour Town. See the stunning views of Daufuskie Island and the surrounding area. 

Alternatively, you can also walk along the Harbour Town Pier or rent kayaks and paddleboards. There are also several restaurants and shops that are worth visiting.  

And of course, you can’t go to Hilton Head Island without exploring the beautiful beaches! Coligny Beach Park and Fish Haul Beach Park are a couple of the best beaches on the island.  

Coligny Beach Park is in the heart of Hilton Head Island and just steps from Coligny Plaza with lots of shops and restaurants in the area. March is a perfect time to visit since the beaches are generally quiet and there’s plenty of room for you to explore.

The weather is fantastic for outdoor activities and the crowds are not bad. In March, temperature is typically between 45-50 for a low and 67-75 for a high. Expect cool temperatures at night and sunny days during the day. It tends to rain 7-8 days this month.   

The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is 45 minutes away from Hilton Head and the nearest option. Otherwise, you can fly to the Charleston International Airport which is about 2 hours from the island.

Capitol Reef National Park, Utah

Want to visit the best US outdoor adventure destinations in March but not sure where to go? If so, then consider Capitol Reef National Park. After all, it’s hidden away in Utah’s south central desert and is known for being home to a giant wrinkle in the earth that is referred to as the Waterpocket Fold. 

It features exquisite layers of sandstone while the large park is home to stunning rock formations like Chimney Rock pillar, the Hickman Bridge arch, various sandstone domes, and the amazing monoliths of Cathedral Valley. 

Before you enter the National Park though, stop by the Visitor’s Center so that you can grab a free map. You also will want to check on trail conditions since there can still be snow on the ground in March. 

After that, head to Gifford Farm for some homemade pies since it opens for the season on March 14th, or Pi Day. Then, tackle hikes to Hickman Bridge, Grand Wash, and Capitol Gorge Wash.

You can also take stunning photos of the night sky since the Milky Way is visible throughout the month. 

Enjoy a dry month in Capitol Reef National park with just two days of rain. Daily highs are a comfortable 55F and daily lows are a cool 30F. 

You’ll want to fly into the Grand Junction Regional Airport, in Grand Junction, Colorado. It’s about 200 miles east of the National Park. It will take you just under three hours to get there.

Anchorage, Alaska

March is an excellent time to visit Anchorage, Alaska if you’re looking for snowsports, fantastic state parks, and an adventure that could discover the Northern Lights.

Springtime in Alaska is typically still snowy and ski resorts like Alyeska Ski Resort have more snow than anywhere else in the country. That means adventurers can go backcountry skiing in nearby Chugach State Park. 

Hillside and Kincaid trails might still be groomed for cross country skiing. However, if there is an early melt, you can still drive to Hatcher Pass’ Independence Mine and ski around a state historic park. 

Most visitors to Alaska also want to see the Northern Lights in Anchorage but are worried about the long, frigid winter nights. However, March is the perfect time to look for them in Anchorage and the rest of Alaska. March brings more sunlight to the last frontier and warmer weather.

March is a great time for all-day mountain adventures like skiing out to a glacier, up a ridge or through a stunning mountain pass with longer daytime hours. Chugach National Forest is home to countless trails and has vast stretches reserved for hikers and skiers, with other valleys home to incredible snowmobiling.  

The average weather in Anchorage in March is in the teens and twenties but rarely below zero. There should be minimal new snow and a low chance of rain.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina

If you’re looking for one of the best US holidays in March, then look no further than the Smoky Mountains. Specifically, explore Great Smoky Mountains National Park which spans across the Tennessee and North Carolina border. It is a perfect destination in the springtime.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the number one most visited national park in America, so it’s often crowded. However, in March, the crowds are not there yet.

Hike the  Laurel Falls Trail , the most popular waterfall hike in the Smoky Mountains without worrying about people crowding the trail. Or check out Clingman’s Dome – which provides 360 degree views of the Smoky Mountains. Be sure to take the scenic drive along the Cades Cove Scenic Loop, which provides amazing scenery of the mountains.

With average high’s at almost 50 degrees and average lows just below freezing, it’s an excellent time to visit, especially if you love hiking. There is a 30% chance of rain each day.

The best way to reach the Smoky Mountains is to fly into Knoxville and rent a car which is about a 2 hour drive.

One of the best US beach destinations in March is Siesta Key, Florida. Siesta Key is a small barrier island on the gulf side of Florida. It is known for its beautiful white beaches, and fun and quirky downtown area. The Siesta Key beach is commonly voted as one of the best beaches in the United States.

There are lots of fun things to do in Siesta Key like spending time at the beach. Siesta Key beach is famous for its quartz, white sand, and beautiful blue water. At the beach, there are lots of outdoor activities to do like jet skiing, parasailing, and sunbathing. A bike ride on the beach at sunset is also beautiful.

Another water activity to do in Siesta Key is kayaking. There are really nice mangrove forests in the area which is a great place to go kayaking. Keep an eye out for manatees, dolphins, and other wildlife.

Siesta Key Village offers great shopping. If you are not in the mood to shop, you can go window shopping and grab a bit to eat in this three-block area. You can also visit some markets, tour art galleries, and listen to live music.

The weather in March in Florida is almost perfect which is the highlight of visiting this time of year. The highs are around 80 degrees Fahrenheit and overnight lows are around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. There are about four days of rain per month.

The closest international airport to Siesta Key is the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. It is about 30 minutes north of Siesta Key. You can also look at flights into Tampa or Orlando, but those airports are a little farther away.

Chicago, Illnois

Chicago, Illinois is one of the best US getaways in March. There is a large  St. Patrick’s Day celebration  throughout the entire city around March 17. It takes place the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day if the holiday falls on a weekday. 

The most popular event in the city-sponsored festivities is the dyeing green of the Chicago river. A local plumber’s union uses an environmentally-friendly, food-grade dye to color the river shamrock green either on St. Patrick’s Day, or the Saturday before. It’s a free event that is attended by hundreds of thousands of people. 

Later that same day, a parade is held that highlights Chicago’s strong Irish heritage. Troupes of Irish dancers, bagpipers, and other Irish performers participate. 

When not enjoying the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, there are endless things to do in Chicago . Go for a walk in beautiful Millennium Park in downtown Chicago and then, head to the beaches and bike paths on Michigan Lake.

If it is chilly, venture to world class museums such as the Museum of Science And Industry and the Natural History Museum, to name only a few. The Science and Industry Museum has an actual German U-505 submarine from WWII to explore as well as an underground coal mine.

The weather in March in Chicago can be highly variable. Some years it might be 75F and sunny while others it might be in the 30s with a chance of snow. Regardless of the weather, all the city-wide St. Patrick’s Day events are well attended. Plan to dress in layers. 

Chicago is one of the few US cities that is accessible by two major international airports. Midway airport is south of the city, and accessible by the Orange Line subway. O’Hare airport is north of the city, and is accessible by the Blue Line subway. 

Regardless of what airport you choose, do not rent a car. Traffic is often gridlocked and parking is incredibly expensive. Public transit and rideshare services are both affordable and accessible, even for people in wheelchairs or traveling with strollers.

A fantastic March beach trip in America is San Diego in Southern California. It is a great time of year to go as it is still shoulder season and the weather is very pleasant. The wild flowers are starting to appear along the coastline and around the city. This makes for some spectacular hiking, picnicking and just enjoying the outdoors for which the region is known.

There are many popular things to do in San Diego in spring. Visit Balboa Park for the gorgeous botanical gardens, Japanese gardens and revolving exhibits at the 17 museums and cultural institutions located in the Balboa Park District.

Being outdoors in March is a must. Some fantastic coastal hikes include the Bayside trail at Cabrillo National Monument, or visit Torrey Pines Forest Preserve.

Alternatively, if you want more adventure, consider mountain biking, climbing, horseback riding. For a host of different water sports activities like surfing, kayaking or snorkeling, spend the day at the beautiful beaches of La Jolla. In fact, San Diego is know for some of the best beaches in the USA, especially for those looking for a warm beach destination in winter .

The craft brewery scene is fantastic all around the city. There are many different neighborhoods to visit with over 150 different craft breweries and cider houses to experience around the region. Popular favorites are Mission Brewery, Coronado Brewing Company or Original 40 Brewing company.

March brings mild temperatures in the low 70s with lots of sun.

Flying into San Diego International Airport puts you right into the center of town with easy access to the downtown and historic district of the city.

Great Basin National Park, Nevada

Tucked away in a hidden corner of eastern Nevada near the Utah border is Great Basin National Park. It is an awesome outdoor destination in the United States in March for lots of reasons, including being a great place to avoid the crowds of popular spring break destinations. Although the weather in March can still be quite frosty, you’ll still find plenty of awesome things to do in the Park, no matter the conditions.

You can explore the unique and rugged landscape on a variety of hikes in Great Basin . These include easy jaunts through conifer forests or ancient bristlecone pine groves.

For something more challenging, consider hiking to the summit of Wheeler Peak, the second highest point in Nevada at 13,044 feet.

While the trails are still beautiful in March, you’ll want to check the weather forecast and bring traction for snow and ice. Snowshoeing some of the trails is another awesome option.

One of the most popular attractions in Great Basin is the Lehman Caves. These cool limestone caves are open year-round, but do require a reservation for a ranger-guided tour. Exploring the stalagmite and stalactite formations in the subterranean caves is a great place to escape if there is snow.

High temperatures average around 48°F. There is definitely a chance of spring snow.

To get to Great Basin, you can fly into either Salt Lake City or Las Vegas International Airport. The drive from Salt Lake is just about 4 hours while it’s around a 5 hour drive from Vegas to the National Park.

Maui, Hawaii

There is no better beach holiday in America for a late winter or early spring getaway than the palm-fringed golden beaches of Maui. In March, weather on Maui is in full transition from the wet to the dry season. This results in an abundant decor of tropical foliage, fragrant flowers, generous waterfalls and a colorful rainbow here and there. The best way to discover the lush side of Maui is by driving the Road to Hana. This scenic drive is known for its 620 curves and 59 one-lane bridges. Along the way you get to discover majestic waterfalls, verdant botanical gardens, intriguing lava tubes and a black sand beach.

Another  family-friendly Maui activity  not to be missed in March is a whale-watching cruise. March is one of the best times of year to see these giants up close since that’s when they breed, calve, and nurse their young in the warm and safe waters beside Maui.

Since the ocean swell eases in spring, one of the best Maui activities in March is snorkeling. Discover the underwater world and swim with turtles during a snorkeling trip to Molokini island or Turtle Town. And if you happen to be on the island in the last week of March, then you can shake off the winter blues during the Prince Kuhio Day Festival.

Overall, weather on Maui in March is sunny with temperatures averaging 80° F during the day and 65° F during the night. The South-Maui areas of Kihei and Wailea tend to be mostly rain-free.

It doesn’t take more than a 30-minute drive from the airport to reach the most popular resort areas from Kahului airport.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston, South Carolina is one of the best US cities for a March city break. This beautiful, low country city is full of history. In March, the flowers are blooming and the sun is shining. The weather hasn’t yet turned hot and sticky like it will in summer. 

Charleston is full of colorful buildings, historic landmarks and buildings, a coastal vibe, and some really delicious food. Accordingly, 3 days in Charleston is the perfect amount of time to see the city.

You definitely can’t miss visiting Waterfront Park and the famous Pineapple Fountain. (The pineapple is a symbol of hospitality in Charleston.) Besides a good photo-op, if the weather is warm, you can wade in the water around the fountain, which feels lovely and refreshing.

You also must wander around the historic district, admiring all the colorful buildings and old architecture. St Michael’s Church, Rainbow Row, and the French Huguenot church are definitely sites that you should see.

Finally, you must visit Fort Sumter, the site on which the Civil War started. This fort is on an island in the middle of Charleston Bay, so a visit includes a 60 minute return ferry ride, a brief synopsis of the history of the fort by a ranger, and then time to wander and explore the remains of the fort.

If you’re interested in special events in the city, the Charleston Wine and Food Festival also occurs during the month of March. 

Temperatures are generally in the upper 60’s to mid-70’s. There will be an average rainfall of around 3-4 inches during the course of the month. 

You can reach Charleston by flying into Charleston International Airport. It is only a 20 minute drive to downtown.

Antelope Canyon, Arizona

Antelope Canyon is one of the most beautiful places to visit in March in the world. It is a slot canyon located in northern Arizona near a small town called Page. Slot canyons are narrow canyons with tall walls on either side and an opening at the top. Antelope Canyon is one of the most famous slot canyons because of its gorgeous colors, light beams that shine down and illuminate the canyon walls, and wave-like textured walls. 

To visit Antelope Canyon, you must book a tour and go with a guide. The walk through the canyon is about 1 mile and is usually pretty crowded. Although, nothing beats seeing this gorgeous canyon in person.

If you are trying to get away from the crowds, it is suggested to check out some of the other amazing slot canyons in the area . Some are more adventurous and could require longer hikes, climbing up and down ladders, and squeezing through really tight places. However, you might have the whole place to yourself!

Another incredible place to check out in the area is Horseshoe Bend. At the Horseshoe Bend overlook you will see how the Colorado River below has created a deep canyon in a horseshoe shape. The views here are absolutely incredible and worth checking out.

March is a lovely time to visit Antelope Canyon because the weather is not too hot or cold. However, that brings the crowds. Unfortunately, checking out other slot canyons in the area or going in the off-season is the only way to avoid crowds at Antelope Canyon. 

The best time to visit this area and Page is in the spring and fall. The average temperature in March is a high of 62 and a low of 40. There is little rain at this time.

To reach Antelope Canyon, the best international airport to fly into is Las Vegas. From there, rent a car and drive the 4.5 hours to Page, Arizona. 

Jessica says, “The best place to stay in the area is the Wingate by Wyndham hotel in Page. This hotel has excellent ratings, is super clean, and has a great breakfast. If you are looking to camp, one of the best campgrounds in the area is Antelope Park RV Park just outside of Page.”

San Francisco, California

Located on the West Coast and rich with history and culture, traveling to San Francisco in springtime is one of a kind experience. The city is packed with attractions and if you are on  a day trip to San Francisco , you’ll have to make some tough choices.

The Golden Gate Bridge is the number one attraction, top on everybody’s bucket list. Enjoy a day of walking and biking, or get to the viewpoints nearby for taking that perfect click. Nearby is the Golden Gate Park, a beautiful place much loved by the locals.

Located 2 km off the coast is Alcatraz, a tiny island prison located in San Francisco Bay. To get there, you must take a ferry or book yourself a guided tour.

Afterwards, explore Fisherman’s Wharf, the busy harbor area, where you pick up the ferry. In the evening, the neighborhood is packed with numerous entertainment and dining options. In addition, there is lots of shopping options.

In March, the weather is quite pleasant with an ample amount of sun. The average temperature hovers around 65 degrees.

Located 14 miles from the city is San Francisco International Airport. Apart from taxis, there are numerous public transit options available such as trains and buses. Avoid renting a car unless you plan to take lots of day trips.

Moab, Utah, is the perfect destination for outdoor adventures. It is located in southeast Utah and has a population of only 5,000 people. However, there are almost 2 million visitors each year! 

One of the best things about Moab is that it’s a gateway to multiple amazing national and state parks. Some of the most popular activities are  hiking in Arches National Park , taking in the views at Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park, and exploring the colorful hoodoos at Goblin Valley State Park. 

The main reason why Moab is one of the best places to visit in America in March is that it is the off-season and you can avoid the summer crowds. In addition, Arches National Park has a paid timed entry program that starts April 3rd so you can visit beforehand to save money. 

The weather is generally nice in March with highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s. This is great time to avoid hiking in the extreme heat that they usually experience in the summer months. 

The nearest international airport is Salt Lake City International Airport which is a 3 hour & 45 minute drive to Moab.

Minocqua, Wisconsin

The small town of Minocqua is one of the most beautiful places in the United States to visit in March as it is surrounded by picturesque forests and over 2000 lakes, rivers, and other water bodies.

Situated in Northern Wisconsin, there are countless  things to do in Minocqua  throughout the year but it is the most fun during the month of March. In addition, you avoid the hustle and bustle of the summer months.

Early spring is when you can enjoy iconic landscapes in manageable temperatures for less money than the peak seasons, so I think it’s a win-win! From traveling around during this month, here are my favourite spots to explore…

1. Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

This stunning hidden gem, located near the town of Lancaster in northern Los Angeles County, California, is a favorite among hikers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers alike.   This month is the perfect time to explore the 1,780-acre reserve, as the breathtaking California poppies – the state’s official flower – are in full bloom, creating a spectacular display at their peak.

They typically bloom for ten weeks between late February and early May and peak for around three weeks between late March and early April . 

For an unforgettable experience, I highly recommend taking the winding dirt road through the valley, where you’ll be treated to Instagram-worthy views of vibrant poppy fields blanketing the landscape in fiery hues of red and orange.

There are also approximately eight miles of trails that wind through the captivating blooms, offering a closer look at this gorgeous natural display.

• Hiking the South Loop Trail which took me through the picturesque poppy fields.
• Visiting the Jane S. Pinheiro Interpretive Center where I saw the acclaimed artist’s stunning botanical watercolor paintings, I thought really captured the beauty of the California’s wildflowers! 

2. New Orleans, Louisiana

The vibrant city of New Orleans is rich with fascinating history, unique architecture, and a lively atmosphere, shaped by strong French, Spanish, Creole, and African influences!

This month famous city embraces the less-crowded transition into spring and the ending of the Mardi Gras celebrations. This month brings in warmer but still comfortable temperatures, good deals on accommodation, spring blooms and some awesome – but quieter – events.

I highly recommend not missing the incredible  Tennessee Williams Literary Festival , which features masterclasses and performances of original works, as well as the lively LGBTQ  Saints and Sinners Literary Festival .

I also suggest attending Super Sunday, when the vibrant Mardi Gras Indians parade through the streets, and enjoying the free  Wednesday at the Square music concert in Lafayette Square.

Additionally, the lively St. Patrick’s Day festivities kick off on March 17th and extend into a vibrant week-and-a-half of non-stop celebrations!

3. Golden Isles, Georgia

Located in the southeastern state of Georgia , the wonderful Golden Isles consist of four unspoilt, nature-filled islands ( Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, Sea Island and Little St. Simons Island), and the quaint city of Brunswick which lies on the mainland.

The beautiful islands emerge from the marshlands and tidal rivers, blending seamlessly to create a breathtaking, uninterrupted coastal landscape along Georgia’s shoreline!

They’re filled with incredible bird and wildlife, an eclectic melting pot of cultures, excellent hiking trails, world-class golf courses, stunning natural scenery and beautiful beaches. 

I personally think this month is a great month to explore the two island’s open to the public (St. Simons and Jekyll) as the weather is warm but not too hot, there’s fewer crowds, blooming native plants, great conditions for outdoor adventures, art festivals and a relaxing, tranquil vibe.

I highly recommend exploring the many hiking trails, picnicking on the sandy beaches, and then watching the sun slowly sink over the horizon – vacation bliss! 

I also loved Brunswick for its Victorian architecture, speciality shopping and locally-owned eateries.

• Going on a dolphin-spotting tours with Southeast Adventure Outfitters and seeing playful bottlenose dolphins.
• Visiting the photogenic Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island and watching a spectacular sunset. 
• Browsing the boutique shops in St. Simons’ Pier Village and discovering the gorgeous gourmet food market at Redfern Village.

4. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Philadelphia is the large city with a small-town vibe known for its vibrant neighborhoods, excellent historic and cultural attractions, its diverse food scene, thriving craft beer scene and straightforward locals! 

I personally think this is the perfect time to visit the city – its just before the summer crowds arrive, there’s some great deals on hotels and by the end of the month, the cherry blossoms bloom beautifully in West Fairmount Park.

Here, y ou can enjoy a picnic and admire the well-maintained lawns, or take a stroll around the tranquil Shofuso Japanese House and Garden  and see traditional Japanese architecture and ornate water features. 

I also think this is the perfect time to savor a craft beer in the early spring sunshine, so I highly recommend visiting one of the city’s many excellent breweries. While you’re at it, take a stroll through the charming, historic streets of neighborhoods like Spring Garden, which is lined with 19th-century townhouses, to fully soak in the season!

Be sure not to miss seeing local artists at work at Cherry Street Pier, mingling with creative types along the vibrant waterfront, or catching a retro-style movie at a drive-in theater!

5. Fairbanks, Alaska

Fairbanks is a unique city destination located in the North of Alaska which is excellent base to explore the surrounding rugged wilderness and it’s also one of best places in the world to see the Northern Lights otherwise known as the Aurora Borealis. 

This month is the perfect month to take a trip here as from late  August to mid- April , the dark but clear nights offers awesome conditions for viewing the extraordinary natural light show.

The temperatures are milder than in the depths of winter, yet the snow conditions remain excellent, making it perfect for snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The incredible family-friendly Fairbanks World Ice Art Championships are also held during this month.

I highly recommend safely spotting wildlife such as moose, caribou, and Dall sheep, as well as exploring the fascinating Pioneer Park, home to original historic buildings from the Gold Rush era.

• Warming up in the mineral-rich outdoor pool at Chena Hot Springs, surrounded by fresh, crisp snow, was truly a magical experience!

6. Texas Hill Country

Located in Central Texas, this is stunning region filled with gorgeous natural beauty, rolling limestone hills, clear water rivers, picturesque wineries, and charming small towns. The counties of Fredericksburg, Kerrville, New Braunfels, and Boerne all fall within the scenic area.

I love visiting this time of year because the temperatures are pleasantly mild, and the beautiful wildflowers are in full bloom. The Texas Bluebonnets, the state’s official flower, are particularly stunning with their unique lupin-like shape and vivid electric blue color!

It’s also a great time to explore the excellent hiking trails and the striking natural attractions such as The majestic Enchanted Rock, the serene Pedernales Falls, and the picturesque Lost Maples.

I also recommend setting aside time to explore the fascinating historic German-influenced towns. The charming Boerne is especially lovely with its boutique shops and galleries, Fredericksburg radiates Bavarian charm, and Kerrville stands as one of the oldest settlements in the state.

7. Nantucket, Massachusetts

This small but scenic gem located off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts is an idyllic high-end vacation island. It’s filled with upscale dining, boutique hotels, beautiful sandy beaches, a stunning coastline, interesting historic attractions and excellent outdoor activity options.   Visiting here in summer is especially popular but I love to take a trip here during this month as the accommodation and restaurants are much more affordable in the off-peak season.   It’s not warm but the vibe is so tranquil that I feel I have the place to myself and love exploring the near deserted beaches, quaint fishing villages, pretty harbor towns, and historic lighthouses before the tourist crowds arrive.

8. Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas

This lesser known beauty spot is located in Arkansas and is home to miles of unspoilt natural landscapes including towering canyons, winding clear rivers, high cliffs, a spectacular waterfall and awesome outdoor adventures. 

Early spring is still the off-peak season which means fewer crowds and a more immersive nature experience. The pleasantly mild temperatures are perfect for longer hikes, the wildlife starts to become more active and the pretty wildflowers start to bloom during this month.

I highly recommend exploring the awesome 95-foot Cedar Falls which is at its fullest in spring and the excellent hiking trails. The popular Cedar Falls Trail, the remote Seven Hollows Trail and the Bear Cave Trail which took me through striking rock formations were my favorites.

• Spotting the wildlife and birds – white-tailed deer, woodpeckers, waterfowl, raccoons and wild turkeys can easily be seen during this month.
• Capturing an Instagram-worthy shot underneath the Natural Bridge (created from a rock formation) on the along Seven Hollows Trail.
• Staying over at a cozy historic cabin which was built in the 1930s!

9. The Tidal Basin and Washington D.C.

This is an attractive man-made reservoir located in between the Potomac River and the Washington Channel in Washington D.C. 

Every spring, the beauty spot is transformed into a truly breathtaking sight as acres of pink and white cherry blossoms, which were a gift from Japan, burst into bloom, with the peak bloom typically occurring from late March through early April .

I recommend visiting the Tidal Basin early in the morning to capture the stunning views without the crowds and to watch the sun rise over the striking marbled monuments and the Japanese Pagoda, both of which add to the area’s serene beauty.

Then I suggest exploring the rest of the city which is full of iconic buildings, excellent museums and pretty green spaces. Also include seeing the charming historic neighborhood of Georgetown, Georgetown University whose  atmospheric steps were used in The Exorcist, DuPont Circle for eclectic nightlife and the wonderful art in The Phillips Collection .

• Enjoying a scenic bike ride around the picturesque Tidal Basin Loop.
• Spending the day at the National Cherry Blossom Festival which takes place this month and April and enjoying including cultural performances and art exhibits.
• Going on an open-top bus which took me around all the famous presidential monuments including Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and the Washington Monument.

10. Kauai, Hawaii

This lush, dreamy island, often called the Garden Isle, is the fourth-largest island in Hawaii, renowned for its legendary ‘Aloha’ spirit and gorgeous scenery consisting of rugged cliffs, stunning beaches, dense rainforests, vegetation-covered mountains and great surf. 

It’s officially off-peak season here during this month as officially its the rainy season, but the rain usually comes in short bursts and then the sun quickly returns.

If you don’t mind the showers you’ll find some excellent discounts on flights and accommodation as well as warm weather, fewer tourists, great surf conditions and awesome whale-watching opportunities – this month is Humpback Whale season!

• Flying through through the native forests on a zip-line in Koloa located in the South Shore.
• Hiking the incredible trails – I recommend not missing the Kalalau Trail located along the famous Na Pali Coast and the Waimea Canyon Trail.
• Celebrating Prince Kuhio Day which falls towards the end of the month where I got involved with lively hula performances, live music and traditional Hawaiian ceremonies. 

11. Fontainebleau State Park, Louisiana

This lesser-known scenic gem is located on Lake Pontchartrain’s north shore in the state of Louisiana. The stunning protected area is filled with unspoilt landscapes spanning 2,800-acres and consisting of gorgeous water views, sandy beaches, oak trees forests, cypress swamps and large areas of marshlands and wetlands.

• Renting a paddle-board from Bayou Adventure and exploring the lake!
• Exploring the eerie ruins of Bernard de Marigny’s old plantation sugar mill which is located within the park.
• Staying in a rustic wooden cabin located along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, the water views were incredible! 

12. Atlanta, Georgia

The capital of Georgia – also known as Hotlanta – is fun and vibrant city filled with an interesting history, a wonderfully diverse culture, fine modern attractions, tasty cuisine and plenty of Southern charm.

Summers in Atlanta are hot and humid so spring is a good time to visit, as the temperatures are much more comfortable, there’s far fewer crowds, lower prices on accommodation, spring blooms to view and fun festivals to attend! 

I suggest including a visit to the inspiring Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park , the fascinating Atlanta History Center , the beautiful Atlanta Botanical Garden – especially vibrant in full bloom this month – and the scenic Piedmont Park.

• Admiring the vibrant street art including the very creative large murals in Cabbagetown and Old Fourth Ward.
• Immersing myself in the incredible foodie scene here, I especially loved the bourbon pecan pie at Mary Mac’s Tea Room.
• Having fun at Atlanta Fair held at Old Turner Field Gray Lot (which takes place this month) and experiencing carnival games, family-friendly rides, and tasty food.

13. Saguaro National Park, Arizona

This is an underrated destination photogenic beauty spot located ten miles from Tucson in the southern Arizona. It’s home to unique and unspoilt desert landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, ancient petroglyphs, incredible hiking trails and the famous saguaro cactus which have been known to grow up to 78ft tall. 

The park spans over 91,000 acres and is split into two districts by the city of Tucson. For the best cactus viewing, I recommend heading to the western portion, which, while smaller, boasts a higher concentration of saguaro cacti.

I much prefer visiting this time of year as the weather is more comfortable (and safer!) than the summer and I love exploring the hiking trails in more peace – Hugh Norris Trail and the Mica View Loop are my favorites.

You’ll also find the gorgeous spring wildflower blooms, along with cholla and prickly pear cacti that blossom during this time of year.

• Taking Instagram-worthy shots of the incredible Saguaro Forest after hiking to the spectacular Valley View Overlook. 
• Taking a trip to Rincon Mountains, located in the Saguaro East, for breathtaking views overlooking the unique cacti-filled landscapes.

14. Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park, Kansas

This hidden gem is a stunning natural beauty that remains blissfully uncrowded. Tucked away in Logan County, Kansas, I personally think it’s an excellent alternative to the busier national parks.

While there’s no camping allowed within the park, nearby towns like Scott City and Oakley offer great places to stay, allowing you to explore the park’s striking landscapes by day and relax in comfort at night.

The surreal, arid landscape features rare Niobrara Chalk outcrops, formed over 80 million years ago, that rise from the flat prairies like towering temples. Their striking resemblance to the ancient city of Jerusalem inspired the name “Little Jerusalem.”

During this month, the mild weather means its safer for going on long hikes into the wilderness. There are two official trails the short, easy Overlook Trail which leads to a beautiful viewpoint of the formations and the longer Life on the Rocks Trail which also includes wildlife and plant life viewpoints.

• Going on a ranger-guided backcountry hike, where we explored the off-trail paths to see different perspectives of the park and learn more about its extraordinary history.
• Spotting the incredible fossilized remains of ancient marine life (including giant clams and  oysters) embedded in the chalk formations on the Life on the Rocks Trail.

15. Sedona, Arizona

This much-loved gem of a town is nestled in the Arizona desert, approximately 30 miles south of Flagstaff. Known for its stunning red rock formations sprinkled with pine trees, Sedona is also famous for its spiritual vortexes, including the Cathedral Rock Vortex and Bell Rock Vortex, among others!

In addition to serving as a hub for outdoor adventures, the town has become a sanctuary for those seeking energy healing and wellness. Its streets are lined with new-age shops, Native American-inspired healing centers, yoga studios, and holistic retreats. 

There are also more traditional spas and a vibrant artistic scene, featuring outdoor sculptures, art galleries, artisan craft shops, and exhibitions showcasing both fine art and photography.

I love visiting this time of year when the wildflowers are in bloom, there’s less crowds, and the cooler temperatures make exploring the rust-colored hiking trails even more enjoyable.

The iconic and incredibly scenic Cathedral Rock Trail, along with Devil’s Bridge Trail, which leads to the largest natural sandstone arch in the area, were my absolute favorites.

• Browsing and shopping for unique gifts at the Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village, which I found to be one of the best shopping spots in town!
• Driving along the scenic Red Rock Scenic Byway (Highway 179) and seeing iconic landmarks such as Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte, and Cathedral Rock.
• Going on a thrilling Pink Jeep Tour and exploring the steeper desert trails in a cool wrangler!
• Trying forest bathing for the first time which has been inspired by the Japanese practice of “Shinrin-yoku” – it was definitely a very unique and zen-like experience!

16. Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas

This underrated gem, located in the Texas Panhandle near Amarillo, is actually the second-largest canyon in the country.

The park boasts unique geology, breathtaking landscapes with towering cliffs and vibrant rock layers, ancient fossils, diverse wildlife, excellent hiking trails, scenic drives, and several campgrounds for overnight stays.

I personally think this is a great time to visit for dry but comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds, more active wildlife and a chance to see the beautiful spring blooms!

I love the hiking trails here and I highly recommend the Lighthouse Trail which leads to the striking 300 feet rust-colored rock formation known as The Lighthouse and the Capitol Peak Trail which has impressive views of the striking canyon.

• Mountain biking on the scenic Capitol Peak Mountain Bike Trail which took me past breathtaking scenic overlooks.

• Going on a thrilling zip-lining ride at the Palo Duro Zip Line Adventure Park which is located just outside the entrance to the state park.
• Staying overnight in a rustic historic cabin in Cow Camp Cabins, which made a great alternative to tent camping! 

17. Palm Springs, California

This hip desert city, nestled in the beautiful Coachella Valley in California is known for its mid-century modern architecture, sunshine, upscale hotel resorts, golf courses, luxury spas and stunning surrounding landscapes.

This month offers some of the best weather of the year, hot but not overbearing like the summer months. It’s a perfect time for relaxing by the swimming pools and exploring the nearby Joshua Tree National Park and the Indian Canyons. 

Also on your early spring break I recommend not missing the aerial tramway for stunning views across the entire valley, going for a mountaintop lunch at the Pine’s Café, exploring the nearby historic Sunnylands Estate, located in Rancho Mirage and then checking out one of the city’s funky restaurants – the quirky Pink Cabana and the trendy Italian Birba were a few of my favourites.

9. New Orleans, Louisiana  

If you’re looking for somewhere fun to go on a March vacation in the USA, then you absolutely can’t beat a trip to New Orleans. After all, March is probably the best time to visit New Orleans since the weather isn’t overly warm and oppressive — making it the perfect time to try light yet refreshing and innovative dishes from GW Fins restaurant.   

Plus, Mardi Gras typically starts at either the end of February or early March. So, you can enjoy all the celebrations associated with this incredible event while traveling to the Big Easy since it continues for a few weeks after Mardi Gras itself. Other fun March events include the New Orleans Bourbon Festival and BUKU EDM festival. 

Just be aware that this is high season in New Orleans. So, you won’t be able to enjoy any discounts on hotels or airfare. You’ll also want to book your hotel at least a couple of months in advance since accommodations will fill up quickly. Since this is such a popular time to visit, many of the city’s biggest attractions close during Mardi Gras. So, keep that in mind before visiting in March. 10. Big Island, Hawaii  

The Big Island of Hawaii is one of the best places to visit in the USA in March if you’re searching for warm, tropical weather ideal for hiking and water activities. During your trip to the Big Island, it’s smart to stay in the  Kona or Hilo  region for the quickest access to most activities and options for luxury resorts, like the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa.

Asheville, NC, is one of the best places to visit in March in the U.S. because the wildflowers are starting to bloom, and the waterfalls are booming. March brings lighter crowds since parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway are still closed, so it’s a fantastic time to hit the trails, explore downtown, and enjoy a brewery or two without the summer crowds. 

The Asheville Art Museum and River Arts District pair together easily for a full day of fine arts and local culture, and you can follow it up with a bite at Sunny Point Cafe or Chai Pani. Planning a  road trip on the Pacific Coast Highway  is one of the best ways to see many beautiful places in one single trip! In general, the west coast is one of the best destinations to visit in March for its mild weather, lots of outdoor adventure, and access to a variety of natural wonders. Planning a road trip on the Pacific Coast Highway offers many perks in March — the biggest one is the off-season discounts you’ll receive on hotels, rental cars, and tours. 

There will also be significantly fewer crowds at popular sites. Some of the most iconic stops on the PCH include Redwood National Park , The Golden Gate Bridge , Oregon Coast , and Olympic National Park . 14. Washington D.C.  

Just like the famous cherry blossom season in Japan , March is the best time to see the famous cherry blossoms in Washington D.C . — a bucket list event in the USA. Delicate white and pink blossoms surround the Tidal Basin, offering fantastic photo opportunities from a paved path that loops around the water. The Jefferson, FDR, and Martin Luther King Jr. memorials are spaced around the basin and are free to visit. For a fun and less crowded look at the blossoms, rent a pedal boat and explore the views from the water. 

The Cherry Blossom Festival, which kicks off in mid-March, features a month of performances, a parade, fireworks, a Kite Festival, and other special events. More cherry trees, plus beautiful magnolias and gardens, are sprinkled around the National Mall and city parks. Allow time to visit the Washington Monument and pop into some of the free Smithsonian Museums. 

You don’t want to drive during cherry blossom season in D.C., so stay at the Canopy by Hilton at The Wharf , and you’ll be just a half-mile walk from those beautiful blossoms.

15. Zion National Park  

Zion National Park is one of the most well-known national parks in the USA, and it’s one of the best places to visit in the USA in March! March is considered the end of the winter season at the national park, bringing mild temperatures and fewer crowds. There is sometimes a light dusting of snow at higher elevations, only enhancing the park’s unique beauty.   

Consider exploring some of the most iconic hikes in the United States, like The Narrows or Angels Landing in Zion National Park. However, water levels at The Narrows can be knee-deep at this time of year. Make sure to rent a neoprene wetsuit from one of the many shops in Springdale, and plan to wear base layers underneath to stay safe. Check the National Park Service website or speak with a park ranger at the visitor’s center prior to beginning your hike to confirm safety conditions.   

For breakfast, lunch, or a midday snack, head over to the highly-rated Cafe Soleil in Springdale.  The menu contains a variety of vegetarian and plant-based items.

16. Key West, Florida  

If you’re unsure where to go this March in the USA, try visiting Key West, Florida. March is the best time to visit the Florida Keys since the weather isn’t stiflingly hot, and there are many fun events to enjoy.  

Highlights include the Key West House and Garden Tour, where you can marvel at the stunning interior of some of the historic homes in Old Town on March 12th and 13th. If you want, you can also enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day-themed day trip that includes traditional Irish fare and green beer. 

However, because spiny lobster season only lasts until the end of March, you cannot leave the area without ordering this delectable seafood delight from The Lobster Shack Key West. Just be prepared for crowds and high prices since the excellent weather and exciting events mean that March is the high season in the area.

17. Philidelphia, Pennsylvania  

While sometimes overlooked as a travel destination, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is brimming with rich history, delicious food, and amazing art. March can be a great time to visit as you can be a part of the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which is a fun experience, and the weather is usually mild. 

Additionally, because March is shoulder season, you can expect fewer crowds and lower prices while Philly jumps into Spring. Other top attractions to enjoy during a weekend in Philadelphia include Independence Hall, the famous Liberty Bell, and Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. The gardens are one of my favorite locations as it is unlike anything you have likely seen before, as it is made up of mosaics!  

For somewhere to eat, I highly recommend Reading Terminal Market, which has a vast number of food vendors to indulge in. My preferred place to grab a snack is Bassetts Ice Cream — but be prepared to have to wait in line! Then, head back to your room at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia

18. Boulder, Colorado  

Searching for your last fix of winter snow? If so, March is a wonderful time to visit Boulder, Colorado , because it is just on the edge of the ski season, when the weather is starting to warm up. Although it can be muddy, most of the trails in and around Chautauqua and Sanitas should be passable, so long as there hasn’t been a recent snowstorm. Bring waterproof shoes with decent tread (or pull-on ice grips, if you have them) to keep from slipping.  

Walk up and down Pearl Street, the lifeblood and center of Boulder, Colorado. You’ll find boutiques for shopping, local breweries and restaurants, and bustling coffee shops. Be sure to pay a visit to the local puzzle store, Liberty Puzzles, and Boulder’s loveliest chocolatier, Piece, Love, and Chocolate. For brunch, try a biscuit with strawberry rhubarb jam from Lucile’s Creole Cafe.  

In Boulder, most people love to enjoy the outdoors, so be sure to squeeze in a hike while you’re visiting. The weather is typically sunny during the early spring, warm enough for just a light sweater most days. Bring a warm coat for the evenings when the temperatures drop.

19. San Antonio, Texas  

San Antonio, Texas, is the perfect place to visit in March in the USA, as it is when the weather is just perfect, the hotel rates are lower, and there are fewer crowds!  

San Antonio is a fun city, and even if you only have a weekend or a day in San Antonio , you can still see a lot! From strolling along the famous San Antonio Riverwalk to visiting the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico, there are many things to do here. The San Antonio Riverwalk is the most visited tourist attraction in Texas, and you can walk the downtown loop of The Riverwalk in 45 minutes. It is a very picturesque area with a nice atmosphere, and there are many Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants full of character and excellent food! 

There are lots of other cuisines to choose from, though. Schilo’s Delicatessen, located just behind the riverwalk, is the oldest restaurant in San Antonio and is an iconic place to go for German food and great breakfasts! Along with the riverwalk, when you are in San Antonio, you must visit The Alamo: known worldwide as the site of The Battle of the Alamo between Mexico and Texas in the Texas Revolution.

One of the greatest draws of the Gulf Shores in March is Gulf State Park. This 6,150-acre park offers ample wildlife viewing, beach activities, and miles of trails. 22. Smoky Mountain National Park  

If you’re looking for one of the best places to visit in the USA in March, look no further than the Smokies. This mountain range, located in North Carolina and Tennessee, is home to some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the country, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of America’s most popular national parks. 

In March, you will be able to explore many of the Smoky Mountain hiking trails  without getting too hot. There are numerous beautiful waterfalls and scenery everyone will love to explore this area. Make sure you take a drive through Cades Cove. It is one of the best places to see wildlife like bears, deer, and turkeys. For waterfalls, you will want to check out Grotto Falls and Laurel Falls, but there are many more options than just those. Another great hike is the Clingmans Done. This hike will take you above the trees, and the hike is paved but steep.  

A popular and great place to eat in the Smokies is Chesapeake’s Seafood and Raw Bar. If you are not into seafood, you will want to check out Cherokee Grill and Steakhouse. They offer great steaks and desserts.

From tasting New York City’s best dishes at MUD Spot and visiting rooftops and rooftop bars to walking down Fifth Avenue and strolling around Central Park , you will never get bored with the hundreds of things to do in this vibrant city. While the magic of NYC is in the air year-round, it’s still pretty chilly in March, as temperatures average around 42°F.

Sea lovers can go kayaking and snorkeling in Cas Cay in St. Thomas or  charter a boat  around St. John and stop at Lime Out, a renowned floating taco bar in the middle of the ocean! Land lovers and history buffs can hike all around the islands for amazing panoramic views while exploring the historic petroglyphs of Reef Bay or Fort Christian.

March is a great time to visit Charlottesville. While temperatures are still a little cool, it’s warm enough to enjoy all the activities the area has to offer. Plus, it’s the off-season, so you’ll avoid the crowds and get great deals on accommodations. 

Charlottesville is in the heart of Virginia’s wine country. One of the best things to do is go wine tasting at the many excellent nearby wineries like Barboursville Vineyards or King Family Vineyards. And if you’re a wine enthusiast, take a day trip to some other top  wineries in Northern Virginia . For history buffs, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello is a must-see. Take a tour of his former home to learn about the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third U.S. president. Then head out to the Saunders-Monticello trail, a stroller-friendly boardwalk that runs from Monticello along Carter Mountain. 

If you’re an avid hiker, check out nearby Shenandoah National Park. The Calvary and Chimney Rock trail leads to a scenic overlook for stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visitors in late March can catch the cherry blossoms in bloom. The best place to see them is the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond. Fleurie is an excellent French restaurant in Charlottesville, serving up a daily three-course prix-fixe menu. While there are plenty of  things to do in Las Vegas  year-round, spring and fall offer the best weather. March is a particularly nice time to visit for lower crowds and the ability to hike and spend time outdoors in natural areas just outside the city. Plus, you’ll score great prices on accommodations in Vegas in March! 

March offers perfect daytime sunshine and moderate temperatures to stroll the famous Las Vegas Strip. Visit the Conservatory at the Bellagio Resort to see the beautiful display for spring, with giant colorful flowers. In the evening, slip on a light wrap and enjoy the lights and music of the Bellagio fountain show, or head up to the top of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Resort for views over the lights of Vegas. While you are here, be sure to pay a visit to the new family-friendly Cosmopolitan Las Vegas .

Just outside Las Vegas, Valley of Fire State Park, and the Red Rock National Conservation Area make for great day trips if you love hiking. Or go kayaking on the Colorado River and admire the historic Hoover Dam. In March, you can still visit Death Valley National Park, the hottest place in North America, especially if you visit earlier in the month.

One of the best places to visit in the United States in March is the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is one of the most famous natural landmarks in the entire world due to its massive size and vast lookouts. The Grand Canyon was carved over thousands of years by the Colorado River and now is one of the largest canyons in the world. Every year, millions of people come to visit the Arizona desert just to see this beautiful landmark.  

Because the Grand Canyon is in the desert, it can get extremely hot. Because of this, traveling in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall is the best time to visit the canyon and avoid the harsh summers and cold winters. There are many things to do at the Grand Canyon, including hiking, wildlife watching, helicopter flights, and horseback riding. It is recommended to give yourself at least two days at the Grand Canyon to make the most of your time. 

Note that the North Rim is closed in March but that the South Rim is home to most of the famous viewpoints and hiking trails. The South Rim is also home to the Grand Canyon Village, where most people go to enjoy learning about the geology of the canyon and grab a bite to eat.
