After Your Visa Interview

A consular officer can make a decision on a visa application only after reviewing the formal application and interviewing the applicant. There is no guarantee that you will receive a visa. Do not sell your house, car or property, resign from your job or make non-refundable flight or other travel arrangements until you have received your immigrant visa.

If more information is needed

Sometimes a consular officer is unable to make a decision on a visa application because the officer needs to review additional documents or the case requires further administrative processing. When additional documents are requested, the consular officer will give you a letter that asks you to submit additional documents. The letter will include instructions on how to send those documents to the embassy.

Administrative processing takes additional time after the interview. Most administrative processing is resolved within sixty (60) days. However, timing varies based on the circumstances of each case. Before inquiring about the status of administrative processing, please wait at least sixty (60) days after your interview.

What happens after visa approval

Passport, Visa, and Sealed Immigrant Packet – We will place your immigrant visa on a page in your passport. Please review your visa to make sure there are no spelling errors. We will also give you a sealed envelope containing documents that you must give to U.S. immigration authorities when you arrive in the United States for the first time.  Do not open this envelope. You must carry it with you sealed. Do not put it in your checked luggage. If you receive X-rays during your medical examination, carry those with you and give them to the U.S. immigration authorities.

USCIS Immigrant Fee – All individuals who are issued Immigrant Visas overseas must pay an Immigrant Fee to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) prior to traveling to the United States. This fee is for processing your residency status and printing your Permanent Resident Card. The only people exempt from paying this fee are:  children entering the United States under the Hague Process, returning residents, and people traveling on a fiancé(e) (K) visa.

When You Should Travel – You must enter the United States before the expiration date on your visa, which is usually six (6) months from the date of printing. Your visa cannot be extended and all fees are nonrefundable. The principal applicant must enter before or at the same time as other family members with visas. Unless they are eligible for benefits under the Child Status Protection Act, children who are issued a visa before turning 21 years of age must enter the United States before their 21st birthday to avoid losing their immigrant status.

Getting a Green Card – Your Form I-551 Permanent Resident Card, also known as a green card, will be automatically mailed to the address in the United States that you write in your visa application form. This is a very important document that proves you have permission to reside in the United States. If you plan to travel outside the U.S. before your green card arrives :  Please consult USCIS’s and CBP’s websites for rules about what documents you need to re-enter the country. We also recommend you check with the airline to ensure you are in compliance with their rules. Once your card is issued, you should not stay outside of the United States for more than one year. If you do, you may lose your status as a Lawful Permanent Resident.

Children’s Issues – In the United States, children are required to have certain vaccinations before they can enroll in school. We recommend that you bring your child’s complete vaccination records with you to the United States. If your child is adopted, you have full custody as a result of a divorce, or you share custody with another parent, you should bring a copy of all applicable adoption or custody papers from the authoritative court in your home country. You will need these papers (translated into English) for issues such as school enrollment, medical care, and eventual citizenship.

Information for New Immigrants – Please visit the USCIS web page for helpful information on moving to the United States. You can read their publication “ Welcome to the United States: A Guide for New Immigrants” online.

Diversity Visa Applicants - Additional Information

If you are interviewing for a Diversity Visa (DV), all of the above instructions apply to you. Please schedule and attend a medical examination prior to your visa interview and gather the required documents.

Below are additional instructions that apply only to DV applicants.

Bring to your DV interview

In addition to the documents listed on the Pre-Interview Checklist in this package, DV applicants should also bring the following items to your visa interview:

  • Appointment information printed from the “Entrant Status Check” on the E-DV website
  • Documents showing that you have either a qualifying high school education OR have two years of qualifying work experience in the last five (5) years immediately prior to application (for the principal applicant only; more information is available on TSG website ).
  • Payment in cash of the $330 Diversity Visa Application Fee for each  visa applicant.

Review your DV Lottery entry

Prior to your visa interview, we recommend that you review the data on your initial E-DV entry. On your initial E-DV application, you must have correctly entered your marital status. If you are legally married you must have listed your spouse, even if you are currently separated from him/her (unless your spouse is a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident).

Additionally, you must have listed ALL of your living children who are unmarried and under 21 years old. This includes your natural children, your spouse’s children, or children you have formally adopted in accordance with the laws of your country.

Failure to have listed an existing spouse or children at the time of your entry in the Diversity Visa lottery will result in the denial of your visa and visas for your family. Any fees paid to the U.S. government in support of your visa application(s) are nonrefundable. If you failed to include a child who had already been born, or a spouse to whom you were married when you entered the lottery, you should not proceed with the visa application. You can review the eligibility requirements  online .

Sri Lanka ETA for US Citizens

Apply for sri lanka eta from united states.

ETA Application

Americans who would like to visit Sri Lanka should apply for a Sri Lanka ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before departure. The online ETA for Sri Lanka was introduced to simplify and speed up the visa application process .

On arrival at the airport of entry, US passport holders with an approved ETA authorisation will be issued with a 30-day short stay visitor visa .

What is the Sri Lanka ETA for US citizens?

The Sri Lanka ETA for US citizens allows visitors to obtain a short stay visa on arrival. ETA holders present their ETA and passport at the Sri Lanka port of entry and are issued with a 30-day visit visa for Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan electronic authorisation was introduced to streamline the Sri Lanka visa on arrival procedure. As all relevant information and documents are provided in advance, the ETA can be quickly granted to Us passport holders at the airport.

The online ETA application for Sri Lanka just involves answering some basic questions and paying a fee using a credit or debit card. American citizens receive the approved ETA by email .

The Sri Lanka ETA allows Americans to enter the country for the following purposes:

  • Tourism or visiting friends or relatives
  • For medical treatment including some alternative treatments and yoga
  • To take part in sporting or cultural events, competitions or activities
  • To transit to a third country (maximum stay of 2 days in Sri Lanka)
  • To participate in a business meeting or negotiation
  • To complete a short-term training course (lasting less than a month)
  • To take part in a conference, workshop, symposium, or seminar
  • To participate in a cultural or religious event

The Sri Lankan ETA cannot be used to work or live in Sri Lanka. US citizens need to obtain a different type of visa from a Sri Lankan embassy or consulate for these purposes (see the full list of US embassies and consulates at the bottom of the page).

What documents do Americans need to apply for the Sri Lanka ETA?

US citizens must meet all the requirements to be able to apply for Sri Lanka ETA from the US. In addition to completing the application form, visitors need to:

  • Possess a valid US passport with at least 6 months of validity left
  • Pay a fee using a credit or debit card
  • Provide a current email address to receive the ETA

When entering Sri Lanka, Us passport holders need to provide the following documentation at the Sri Lankan border :

  • A printed copy of the approved Sri Lanka ETA
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the trip
  • Return or onward ticket

How to obtain the Sri Lanka visa or ETA for American citizens

Applying for the Sri Lanka ETA is the first step to being granted access to the country.

The online ETA application form for american passport just involves answering some basic questions with information such as personal details (name, address, date of birth etc.), passport details (number, expiry date etc.), and travel plans . There are also some health and security-related questions.

US citizens also need to pay a fee using a credit or debit card to submit the application. Once the application has been processed, the approved Sri Lanka ETA is sent to travellers by email.

Most Sri Lanka ETA applications only take minutes to be processed, although on rare occasions it can take longer (up to 48 hours.) It is recommended to apply at least 2 business days before travelling to allow for additional processing time.

Standard processing delivers the approved authorisation in 1 to 2 business days. There is also a Priority Service that allows American visitors to get their ETA urgently , within 1 hour.

Embassy registration for US citizens travelling to Sri Lanka

During the application process, American citizens can sign up to register with the nearest embassy or consulate in Sri Lanka. The embassy will send US nationals important safety and travel information during the entirety of their trip.

With the exception of citizens from Singapore , the Republic of Maldives , and the Republic of Seychelles , all travelers will require a visa to visit Sri Lanka. Fortunately the process for acquiring one is relatively straightforward.

Applying for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

For trips to Sri Lanka of up to 30 days, visas (also known as ETAs) can be obtained from the government’s Department of Immigration and Emigration website . The application involves completing a simple form and making an online payment, with no need to submit passport copies, documents, or photographs. An application is also available upon arrival.

It costs US$50 for a double-entry, 30-day tourist visa (US$20 for residents of Afghanistan , Bangladesh , Bhutan , India , Nepal , and Pakistan ). Two-day transit visas are free and only necessary if you plan to leave the airport. There is also no charge for tourist visas for children under the age of 12.

It’s possible to check the status of an ETA online. Once approved, print out a copy of the ETA approval notice to show immigration officials on arrival in Sri Lanka. For an ETA to be valid, you must arrive in Sri Lanka within three months from the date of issue.

ETAs can also be applied for through travel agents and in person at Sri Lankan embassies or consulates ahead of a trip. Embassies can offer longer visas, such as those granting entry for 90 days.

In addition to an ETA, visitors to Sri Lanka need to make sure they have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, a confirmed return ticket and sufficient funds to meet their expenses during the stay.

Can I apply for a tourist visa on arrival in Sri Lanka?

A limited facility runs at Bandaranaike International Airport (Sri Lanka’s main international airport), offering ETAs on arrival. These visas cost more than those obtained before travel (US$60; or US$25 for residents of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan). It’s also worth noting if your visa application is unsuccessful for any reason, you will be returned to your original destination.

How do I extend a tourist visa in Sri Lanka?

You can renew a 30-day tourist visa up to three times once in Sri Lanka. The initial extension is usually granted for 60 days, and the maximum length of a tourist visa is 270 days. Visitors wishing to apply for an extension should make sure they do so before their current visa expires and must ensure their passport is valid for at least two months after their intended stay.

Applications can be submitted via the online visa extension portal . The fee depends on your nationality and length of stay. Contact the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo should you need further advice on extending your stay.

Sri Lanka to offer free 30-day tourist visas to select countries

Starting october 1, sri lanka makes visiting easier.

Mountains in Sri Lanka

Beginning October 1, Sri Lanka will offer free 30-day tourist visas to citizens from 35 nations, including the U.S. The six-month pilot program aims to boost tourism , a central part of the country’s economy. The policy waives the typical $50 fee and occurs during the island’s peak travel period, from December through mid-April.

Tourism rebounds in Sri Lanka

From the beginning of 2024 through August 19, Sri Lanka brought in 1.3 million tourists. Tourism revenue topped $1.5 billion from January through June, marking a 78% increase year over year. The country hopes to build on that success and end the year with $4 billion in revenue and 2.5 million visitors. The new visa program and the country’s “You’ll Come Back for More” global tourism marketing campaign look to keep the momentum going.

During COVID-19 and a 2022 financial crisis, Sri Lanka saw its tourism figures tumble, and the resurgence is welcome news for the country’s economy. 2023 began the turnaround, and the positive energy continued into 2024. According to the Sri Lanka Development Authority, India brings in the most visitors, at 246,922, and with the UK next at 123,992.

Cabinet spokesman and Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana said: “The aim of the government is to transform Sri Lanka into a free visa country, much like Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam to tap into the benefits of a rapidly growing tourism industry.”

The following countries’ citizens receive free 30-day tourist visas:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Netherlands
  • Saudi Arabia
  • South Korea
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Switzerland
  • New Zealand
  • Czech Republic

It is now easier for Indians to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s cabinet approved visa-free access to visitors from 35 countries, including India. This initiative is part of the Sri Lankan government’s efforts to boost tourism and revive its economy. Under a six-month pilot program starting from October 1st, tourists will be granted 30-day visas.

In light of this development, Krishna Rathi, Senior Country Director, India, Sri Lanka, and Maldives at Agoda stated: “This is an exciting development. When it becomes easier to visit a certain destination, we often see an increase in Agoda’s search data related to that country. This is in line with our philosophy that less friction leads to more travel. For example, we saw an increase in Agoda’s search data when Thailand and Malaysia introduced visa waivers for Indian tourists, and the same effect occurred more recently when India removed tourist visa fees for Thai travellers. We’ll be sure to keep a close watch on how this impacts visitors to Sri Lanka.”

Sri Lanka Rolls Out Free 30-Day Tourist Visas for 35 Nations: Did Your Country Make the List?

Peden Doma Bhutia

August 26th, 2024 at 5:59 AM EDT

Thailand, Malaysia, China – and now Sri Lanka – are catching on: relaxing travel rules boosts tourism. With Sri Lanka eyeing a jump from 1.49 million visitors last year to 2.5 million this year, easing entry is their big play.

Peden Doma Bhutia

Sri Lanka is set to launch a six-month pilot program on October 1, offering free 30-day tourist visas on arrival to citizens from 35 countries, including the U.S., UK, Russia, India and China. The initiative, which temporarily waives the typical $50 visa fee, aligns with the island nation’s peak travel season, lasting from December to mid-April. This move is part of a broader strategy to revitalize tourism, a sector crucial to Sri Lanka’s economy.

Sri Lanka aims to welcome 2.5 million tourists and attract revenue worth $4 billion by the end of this year. Tourism arrivals peaked in 2018 in Sri Lanka, when 2.5 million tourists spent $4.4 billion in the country.

Last year in December the country finally announced its plans to roll out its global tourism marketing campaign urging tourists “You’ll Come Back For More,” marking the first such campaign since 2007.

The free visa announcement comes amid ongoing concerns over a visa scam that has sparked significant controversy. In April, the Immigration Department, replaced the state-run telecommunications company Mobitel, which managed the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, with a consortium of foreign companies. The companies included Singapore-registered GBS Technology Services, the UAE-registered IVS Global-FZCO, and the Dubai-headquartered VFS VF Worldwide Holdings.

Following a public outcry and multiple legal challenges, Sri Lanka’s highest court ordered a return to the local provider.

Tourism Resurgence

Tourism, a vital revenue stream for Sri Lanka, has seen a resurgence in 2024. Between January 1 and August 19, the country welcomed over 1.3 million tourists, with India, the UK and Russia being the top source markets.

visit visa to usa from sri lanka

Earnings from tourism in the first half of 2024 soared to over $1.5 billion, a 78% increase year-on-year, highlighting the sector’s rapid recovery. This is particularly significant given the political and economic turmoil that had previously deterred visitors.

Europe continues to be a major influence, accounting for nearly half of all arrivals, while Asia and the Pacific regions have also emerged as key contributors. The increase in visitors from these regions underscores shifting dynamics in Sri Lanka’s tourism landscape.

In 2023, Sri Lanka saw a significant rebound in tourism, welcoming 1.49 million visitors – more than double the 2022 figures, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

Industry Reaction

The travel industry welcomed the visa-free initiative. Sam Clark, CEO of Experience Travel Group, described it as a “game-changing blueprint” for the country’s tourism future. “It’s a huge opportunity for British ministers to negotiate a permanent visa-free arrangement,” Clark said.

From 2018, the British government had warned tourists from visiting the Asian country saying “food, medicine and medical services” may be limited by political unrest. This has had an impact on tourism to Sri Lanka, with bookings still well below 2018 figures.

Krishna Rathi, senior country director at Agoda, noted that easing travel restrictions typically leads to increased interest in a destination, as seen in other countries that have introduced similar measures.

“We saw an increase in Agoda’s search data when Thailand and Malaysia introduced visa waivers for Indian tourists, and the same effect occurred more recently when India removed tourist visa fees for Thai travellers. We’ll be sure to keep a close watch on how this impacts visitors to Sri Lanka,” Rathi said.

The Russia Angle

The visa-free program, while temporary, could serve as a catalyst for further growth, particularly from markets like Russia, where arrivals have been bolstered by direct flights.

However, the momentum has shown signs of slowing since May 2024, prompting calls for targeted measures to sustain and grow this important market. Industry experts suggest that reducing the financial burden on travelers could be key to attracting more Russian tourists. Proposed measures include exempting embarkation fees and landing and parking costs for flights, particularly at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, which has been effective in the past.

Additionally, allowing transactions in native currencies could further ease the travel process and enhance Sri Lanka’s appeal to Russian visitors.

The List of Countries

Travelers from the following countries will be approved for free 30-day tourist visas to Sri Lanka starting on October 1, 2024, until April 2025:

  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Saudi Arabia
  • South Korea
  • Netherlands
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Switzerland
  • New Zealand
  • Czech Republic

How to get a visa for Sri Lanka as a US citizen

As a US citizen, you need a Sri Lanka ETA .

You don’t need to go to the embassy or visit complicated web pages to process this document.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a visa for sri lanka.

Yes, most countries will need a visa on arrival with ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before processing through Sri Lanka Immigration. You can get your Sri Lanka ETA online now.

Do U.S. passport holders need a visa to enter Sri Lanka?

If you have a U.S. passport, then you need a visa to enter Sri Lanka, but this is not a Paper Visa. Better yet, it’s just an online visa that you can get within a few minutes.

What is the Sri Lanka tourist ETA?

The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is the name of the official document that permits you to visit Sri Lanka as long as your trip is for tourism purposes. But, at iVisa, we also created an online form to apply for a Business ETA .

How long is my Sri Lanka tourist ETA valid for?

If you apply for the Tourist ETA , you’ll be able to stay in this country for 60 days per entry . The amount of days is valid for each entry, and the ETA is a Double entry visa, so you can have a total of 60 days at most when entering Sri Lanka. This must be used within a 90-day time frame.

Can I extend my stay beyond the 30-day limit?

Yes, you can apply for an extension at the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration & Emigration, but only if you agree to pay an additional fee. This eVisa also allows for Double entry and it’s valid for 180 days after issued .

What do I need to apply for a Sri Lanka ETA?

Both in a Tourist and Business ETA , the requirements remain the same, so you’ll only need these:

  • Your passport with a validity of at least 6 months.
  • A digital passport photo.
  • Credit/debit card for the payment.
  • Remember to double-check your application form before submitting it.

What are U.S. citizens’ requirements to visit Sri Lanka?

If you’re a U.S. citizen, you need proof of sufficient funds for your stay in the country. Another thing you need is a valid proof of having been vaccinated for Yellow Fever.

Any foreign currency over $15,000 must be declared at the point of entry. If you arrive there with a tourist eVisa , then you must do only tourism, which includes sightseeing, medical tourism, enrolling in sporting activities, and cultural activities.

We recommend you stay alert to this information because travelers who are uncertain of the activities under the regulations of a tourist visa could be facing a risk of deportation if they participate in an activity that isn’t covered .

What are the costs and the processing times?

At iVisa we have three available options to process the ETA. You can choose the one that fits your needs, and remember that according to the price, you'll get your ETA faster. Here are the options:

  • Standard processing: this processing time lasts 3 days if you pay USD $129.99 .
  • Rush processing: by choosing this option, your visa application is ready in 24 hours and it costs you USD $154.99 (service fee included).
  • Super Rush processing: this option costs USD $200.99 with a service fee included, and you'll have the application ready in only 12 hours .

You can click here to start.

How can I apply on iVisa?

The online application form you have to complete on our website is divided into three easy steps:

  • The first one will ask you to fill in your general information like name, address, passport info, e-mail, etc. Also, you must choose the type of ETA you need and the processing time.
  • The second step is to review the information so you can pay for this service with a credit/debit card. Make sure that all the information you provide is 100% correct. Mistakes can occur during the application process, which is why you should double-check everything.
  • The third and last step is to attach the documents if necessary and send the online form.

What happens after I finish the online form?

As soon as you complete the form, you get the e-Visa via email inbox, so you don’t have to visit the embassy.

Do I need to book a flight before applying for the tourist ETA?

No, you can easily apply for the Sri Lanka Visa for U.S. citizens at any time from the comfort of your own home.

Do I need to get a separate tourist ETAfor my children?

The answer depends on your children’s age. Take into account that children under 12 years old are exempt from paying for the Sri Lanka Visa for U.S. citizens .

How do I know if my Sri Lanka ETA is approved?

You’ll always receive all the information related to this process via email. We’ll also let you know once the Sri Lanka Visa for U.S. citizens is ready as soon as the Sri Lanka Government approves it.

What can I do if I make a mistake in my application?

If you made a mistake while applying for the Sri Lanka Visa for U.S. citizens , please contact our customer service whenever possible so you can get faster assistance.

Indian Navy's frontline warship 'Mumbai' docks in Sri Lanka; coincides with visit by 3 Chinese warships

Follow Us :

Colombo: Indian Navy's frontline warship INS 'Mumbai' on Monday docked at the port of Colombo, on a day when three Chinese Navy vessels berthed at the same harbour in Sri Lanka.

Indian Naval Ship 'Mumbai' is on a three-day visit to the island nation, the Sri Lanka Navy said in a press release.

The 163-metre-long Destroyer, which is manned by a crew of 410 members, was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.

This is the ship's first visit to any port in Sri Lanka and will be the eighth port call by Indian ships this year, the Indian High Commission said in a press release on Sunday.

Meanwhile, three Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy warships -- "HE FEI", "WUZHISHAN" and "QILIANSHAN" -- also arrived at the port of Colombo on a formal visit on Monday morning, the Sri Lanka Navy said.

The "HE FEI" is a 144.50-metre-long destroyer, crewed by 267 personnel, while the "WUZHISHAN" is a 210-metre-long Landing Platform Dock manned by 872 crew members and the "QILIANSHAN" is a 210-metre-long Landing Platform Dock, with 334 crew members.

INS Mumbai -- the third of the Delhi class destroyers -- will bring essential spares for the Sri Lanka Airforce (SLAF)-operated Dornier maritime patrol aircraft -- the pilots and flight navigators of which are being trained by the Indian Navy. Apart from this, the Indian Navy also supports the aircraft's maintenance with a technical team and spares, according to the High Commission.

Upon the ship's arrival, its commander, Captain Sandeep Kumar, called on the Commander of Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe at the Western Naval Command Headquarters.

During the ship’s stay in Colombo, its crew members will visit some of the tourist attractions of the country, the press release said.

"A briefing on the operational functions of the ship will be conducted aboard INS Mumbai for Sri Lanka Navy personnel," it added.

The ship will also undertake joint activities with the Sri Lanka Navy, such as sports fixtures, Yoga and beach cleaning, according to the High Commission.

INS Mumbai will engage in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with a Sri Lanka Navy ship off the coast of Colombo upon its departure on August 29.

The indigenously built INS Mumbai was commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 22, 2001. Its visit is the eighth port call in Sri Lanka by Indian ships this year.

Earlier this year, INS Kabra, Karanj, Kamorta and Shalki visited Sri Lanka, in addition to Indian Coast Guard ships Samarth, Abhinav and Sachet, the High Commission said.

Cash-strapped Sri Lanka considers both India and China equally important partners in its task to restructure its external debt.

In August 2022, Chinese navy vessel Yuan Wang 5 docked at Hambantota in southern Sri Lanka for replenishment.

Free Tourist Visas for Select Countries

In addition to the newly introduced visa-free policy, Sri Lanka continues to offer free tourist visas to visitors from certain countries. Travelers from India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia have been receiving tourist visas free of charge.

Understanding Visa-Free Entry

Visa-free entry allows citizens of specified countries to enter Sri Lanka without needing a visa beforehand. Travelers must meet certain requirements, such as:

  • Holding a valid passport
  • Having sufficient funds for their stay
  • Possessing a return or onward ticket

Visa-free entry simplifies travel, allowing eligible visitors to explore Sri Lanka without undergoing lengthy visa procedures.

How Does Visa-Free Entry Work?

Visa-free entry allows citizens of eligible countries to travel to Sri Lanka without obtaining a visa in advance. Upon arrival, they will go through immigration procedures and be granted a tourist visa.

  • Passport Requirements: Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Sri Lanka.
  • No Pre-Arrival Visa: You don’t need to apply for a visa before your trip.
  • Immigration Upon Arrival: Upon arrival at the Sri Lankan airport, you will go through immigration procedures and present your passport.
  • Tourist Visa: You will be granted a tourist visa upon arrival.

Background and Previous Controversies

This new visa-free policy follows earlier concerns over increased fees for on-arrival visas , managed by a foreign company. Previously, travelers from India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia had enjoyed free tourist visas to Sri Lanka.

Suspension of E-Visa Services

In a related development, Sri Lanka has temporarily suspended its e-visa services . The suspension aims to streamline the new visa-free policy and prevent confusion among travelers.

During this period, eligible travelers from the 35 specified countries will benefit from visa-free entry instead of applying for an e-visa. The suspension reflects Sri Lanka’s commitment to providing a seamless entry process for tourists while the new policy is in effect.

Final Words

With the introduction of visa-free entry and the temporary suspension of e-visa services, Sri Lanka aims to enhance its appeal as a tourist destination, offering easier access to a broader range of international visitors.
