Fortnite Battle Royale: Tips and Tricks to Victory

Fortnite: how to level up fast, fortnite: how to easily get a double elimination.

The summer heats up in Fortnite with the release of the Tesla Cybertruck, providing players with the opportunity to earn and ride their very own rockstar vehicle. Players might want to jump into the action fast, as 2024's Summer Road Trip quests will give players the chance they need to earn Tesla's Cybertruck in Fortnite for free, without having to give out a whopping amount of V-Bucks for the pleasure.

Struggling to get Victory Royale in Fortnite? Here are some essential tips and tricks that might just help players to win a match or more.

Whilst a lot of XP and different game modes are required for the challenge ahead, it might be worth it for those who are desperate to see the Cybertruck in action, especially as it uses the SUV body, making a drive across the Battle Royale island one of style.

All Summer Road Trip Quests

Starting from July 23 at 9 AM ET, and to July 31, players will have a new set of Summer Road Trip Quests to unlock and complete . These quests are not for solo players, and those who are squad-less will need to find a party if they are to complete all nine quests. Each quest to get the Cybertruck for free involves earning a certain amount of XP in creator-made islands, Battle Royale, Rocket Racing, LEGO Fortnite , and Fortnite Festival. Each of these quests can be found below:

These maps may help players earn XP in Creator Made experiences . For modes outside of creator experiences, the easiest and fastest method is Reload, as players can earn plenty of XP from daily quests and simply by playing. Other effective and more passive ways are through LEGO Fortnite and Festival's XP drops every 15 minutes for playing.

Players can level up extremely fast in Fortnite to reach Level 100 and beyond by using these effective methods found across Fortnite's multiple modes.

All Summer Road Trip Quest Rewards

There are a total of 16 rewards that players can earn for completing the Summer Road Trip quests, with the most notable and desirable being the Cybertruck itself. Below, players can find how to get the Tesla Cybertruck in Fortnite 's Summer Road Trip quests, and what other rewards they will get, including a Jam Track from Green Day titled Holiday.

How to Get the Cybertruck in Rocket League / Fortnite

To get the Cybertruck in Fortnite players must complete 9 Summer Road Trip quests . However, there is still another way that players can get the Cybertruck without completing the quests, or purchasing it for V-Bucks. Players can also head into Rocket League for the Summer Road Trip quests, and when using the Beast Mode Boost, play 5 Online Matches in a party to earn the Tesla Cybertruck, Decals, Beast Mode Boost, and Cyber Wheels in cross-game ownership with Fortnite . This can be done vice-versa if players want to play Fortnite to get the Cybertruck in Rocket League .

What's in the Tesla Cybertruck Bundle?

Unlocking or purchasing the Tesla Cybertruck will provide players with 6 unique cosmetics for their SUV vehicle model . Players can not only drive the Tesla Cybertruck thanks to a new Car Body, but they will be able to equip all sorts of colors, decals, and wheels:

  • Tesla Cyebrtruck Car Body (SUV)
  • CyberCamo Cybertruck Decal
  • Matte Black Cybertruck Decal
  • Stainless Steel Cybertruck Decal
  • OMG Cybertruck Decal
  • Cyber Wheels

When Do the Summer Road Trip Quests End?

The Summer Road Trip quests are available from July 23 at 9 AM ET until the v30.40 update on August 6. However, this does not mean that players cannot get the Cybertruck in Fortnite , as it is not an exclusive reward from the Summer Road Trip quests. Starting from August 6, players will be able to purchase the Cybertruck from the Fortnite Shop for V-Bucks , but the amount is currently unknown. What is exclusive to the quests is the Baja Off-Road Decal, as the other quest rewards might be made available at a later date.

Get the Fortnite Cybertruck by earning XP in Creator Made Islands or with a party in the main game modes

Fortnite Summer Road Trip Cybertruck

The Fortnite Summer Road Trip event has arrived, providing a series of challenges to complete across Creator Made Islands and the regular gameplay modes produced by Epic. By clearing all nine of these assignments you'll unlock the Fortnite Cybertruck, which replaces the standard SUV and can also be used in Rocket League with your linked account. However, it's not exactly clear how you go about doing this, so here's what you need to know about the Fortnite Summer Road Trip quests and how to earn XP in Creator Made Islands.

There are a total of nine Fortnite Summer Road Trip quests, which will be unlocking daily between July 23 and 31, and these will feature alternating assignments between earning XP in Creator Made Islands and earning XP in a team across the various Battle Royale modes, Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Fortnite Festival. You can see a full list of these challenges below:

  • Day 1 of 9 - Earn XP in Creator Made Islands (60,000)
  • Day 2 of 9 - Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Fortnite Festival (60,000)
  • Day 3 of 9 - Earn XP in Creator Made Islands (60,000)
  • Day 4 of 9 - Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Fortnite Festival (60,000)
  • Day 5 of 9 - Earn XP in Creator Made Islands (60,000)
  • Day 6 of 9 - Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Fortnite Festival (60,000)
  • Day 7 of 9 - Earn XP in Creator Made Islands (60,000)
  • Day 8 of 9 - Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Fortnite Festival (60,000)
  • Day 9 of 9 - Earn XP in Creator Made Islands (60,000)

All of these Fortnite Summer Road Trip quests involve earning XP in specific modes, and the easiest way to do that is by completing other Fortnite quests you have available or receiving Fortnite Accolades for your actions during a match. While you can take on the Creator Made Islands tasks on your own, you'll need to be in a party for the others to count, so make sure you join at least one friend or matchmake into a group so your progress registers. You need to tick off all nine of these assignments to unlock the Fortnite Cybertruck, but you have until August 6 so there's no immediate need to rush!

What are Creator Made Islands in Fortnite?

Fortnite Summer Road Trip Creator Made Islands

You can find Creator Made Islands in Fortnite by scrolling down on the main Play lobby screen – any of the options you see that don't have the Epic Games badge at the top left of their icon are Creator Made Islands. There's even a 'Great for Summer Road Trip' section currently, to easily help you find experiences to earn XP in for these challenges. To check you've selected the right sort of level, you can switch to the Quests tab in the lobby and confirm any of the Earn XP in Creator Made Islands you have available are not greyed out. You should also track that quest and make sure the level you're playing is actually awarding XP, as some are much more generous than others.

My Surprise Vacation Experience: Pack Up + Go Review

up and go road trip ad

For the longest time, I did not know surprise travel agencies existed. One day, at work, a coworker mentioned she was going on a vacation with a company called Pack Up + Go : a budget-friendly surprise travel agency. This piqued my interest; who wouldn’t want to be whisked away to a mystery destination ? However, I did not put much thought into it, as I had a busy year of travel ahead of me already.

I eventually chose to embark on a surprise vacation for two main reasons: the thrill of the surprise and the convenience. After a vacation nightmare due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I still wanted to travel, but I did not know where to go, and I did not want to plan it for myself. It was too much work to keep track of the ever-changing rules and regulations. My friend Katie and I went back and forth about our options, which is when I remembered Pack Up + Go. It seemed to suit our needs: exciting, affordable travel expertly tailored to our priorities. The rest is history.

Table of Contents

What is Pack Up + Go?

As I previously mentioned, Pack Up + Go is a surprise travel agency. After completing a pre-trip survey and confirming your budget, they select your destination, book your tickets/reservations, and send you off (more on this later). All you have to do is, well, pack up and go! The type of trip you are sent on is completely customizable; whether you’re looking for a staycation, a quick, inexpensive road trip, or a lengthier, pricier plane trip, Pack Up + Go has you covered.

Currently, Pack Up + Go only plans surprise vacations within the United States. Click here to view a list of their destination cities. If you’d prefer to be sent on an international surprise vacation, you are still in luck, because many other surprise travel agencies are offering such packages; The Vacation Hunt is one of the most popular, although I cannot personally recommend them, as I have not booked with them myself.

My Surprise Vacation Experience with Pack Up + Go

Planning my trip with pack up + go.

Once I decided to surprise vacation through the Pack Up + Go travel agency, I started filling out my pre-trip survey. I had first to select my preferred mode of transportation, whether by plane or car; a staycation was also an option. I was then redirected to the full survey, in which I provided information such as my travel dates, places I do not want to go to/would not feel safe going to/have recently been to/will be going to soon, travel priorities, dietary restrictions, and hobbies/interests.

As I made my way through the survey, I also provided them with the information of each traveler, our preferred rooming arrangements, and our budget; I was notified that they plan a trip that fits within our budget and, if money were left over, they’d book activities for us. Pack Up + Go is a great service for budget travelers, as it does not allow you to spend more on flights and hotels than you allotted!

When filling out my survey, I made an error in my preferences. I called customer service; the representative made a note to my file, and I can now confirm that they took it into consideration.

The Hints: Where Could I Be (Pack Up +) Going?

I booked in September 2021 for travel in June 2022, which means I had a long wait until I found out my destination. However, one week before departure, I received an email with some hints to help with packing and timing (and to hype us up, of course). This email told us the weather at our destination, what we should pack based on activities we’d likely be taking part in, airport and flight time information, and luggage allowances. We didn’t yet know the airline we would be flying or the duration of our flight, so there was still a lot of mystery!

Katie and I frantically looked up the weather and flight times in various U.S. cities to find out where we were headed, but we couldn’t crack the code.

up and go road trip ad

The Reveal: Where I Packed Up + Went

A few days after receiving that email with our hints, the envelope disclosing our destination arrived in the mail. Pack Up + Go advises you to wait until the day of your trip to open the envelope, which, admittedly, I did not do (more on this in a bit). One day prior to departure, we received updated weather information via email.

Now, the moment we had been waiting for had finally arrived: the reveal. The destination was…New Orleans, Louisiana! At first, we were a bit puzzled (we could’ve swore we would be sent to Colorado), but the more we thought about it, the more we realized how perfect this destination was for us. We looked back at our pre-trip survey, and all of our answers aligned perfectly with New Orleans.

The reveal of our destination was not the only thing in the envelope. In fact, they gave us a folder full of information on New Orleans. First, and most importantly, the folder contained a packet with our itinerary; hotel accommodations and pre-planned activity information (two dinner reservations in our case) were included in this packet. It also had pages of restaurant and activity recommendations. Digging deeper into the folder, we found important and informational documents on our flight plan, the different areas of the city, how to get around, and good photo opportunities.

One thing I appreciated most upon finding out the flight information was that, although Katie and I were coming from different airports, we were to land in New Orleans at almost the exact same time. Amazing planning by Pack Up + Go!

My Experience During the Trip

The trip went very smoothly from start to finish. I was nervous about the flight times, as I had a short layover, but all of that worry was for nothing.

When we arrived at the hotel, check-in was a breeze. We stayed at the ACE Hotel, which was a great experience. Katie and I discussed how we wouldn’t have booked such a nice hotel if we planned this on our own; we never would’ve thought it was within our budget! It was located within walking distance from nearly every activity we planned.

Pack Up + Go set up two dinner reservations for us. We went to both, although they informed us that we could’ve canceled if we wanted. The first restaurant was not quite my taste, but the second served the best food I ever had in my life – no exaggeration (check out Jack Rose)!

Using the list of recommended sights and activities that Pack Up + Go provided, we built our itinerary; it was very helpful, as many of the activities we would not have found on our own (the bayou airboat tour was our favorite for sure). The list also helped us find some cool bars and live music.

If you’d like to find out more about what we did in New Orleans, Louisiana, stay tuned for an upcoming blog post on this!

Conclusion: To Pack Up + Go or Not to Go?

To conclude, if it were not already obvious, I would absolutely recommend booking your surprise vacation with Pack Up + Go. They meticulously planned a personalized vacation for us and left little room for things to go wrong.

I think everyone should take a surprise trip. Not having a choice in destination allows you to learn a lot about yourself as a traveler. It allowed me to be introspective and think about what I really want in a vacation. They did not choose the destination because it seemed cool, they chose it because it offered exactly what I was looking for. Now, this is something I always consider when planning. To learn more about how I incorporate my priorities into my vacation planning, check out episode 9 of the Runways and Byways Travel Podcast .

The only con I found throughout this experience was that Pack Up + Go does not offer international destinations. I love traveling within the U.S., but it isn’t always necessarily my go-to. This is not a sponsored post, so if there were more negatives, I would tell you! It really was the all-around perfect, convenient, yet insanely fun, trip. I can’t wait to find out where I’ll Pack Up + Go to next time!

If you want to hear Katie and I talk about this experience, check out episode 2 of the Runways and Byways Travel Podcast . Fun fact: the idea of our podcast was born on this trip!

Surprise Trips Are More Popular Than Ever—Here’s What It’s Like When a Stranger Plans Your Vacation

One afar editor let the surprise travel agency pack up and go plan a mystery road trip—one where she didn’t find out her destination until the moment she walked out the door..

Surprise Trips Are More Popular Than Ever—Here’s What It’s Like When a Stranger Plans Your Vacation

AFAR went on a surprise road trip to Newport and saw historical landmarks like The Breakers.

After I zipped up my weekend bag and put my shoes on, I eagerly ripped open the envelope that read, “Warning: No Peeking Until the Day of Your Departure!” The envelope had arrived on Tuesday, but through sheer force of will, I had managed to keep its contents—the destination of a weekend getaway planned by Pack Up and Go , a surprise travel agency—a secret until the moment I was ready to depart on Saturday.

I pulled out a thick piece of card stock that read, “You’re going to Newport, Rhode Island!” in big teal letters. And with that, I added the envelope—which also contained a pre-planned itinerary—to my bag and headed off on a road trip to the coastal New England city.

At AFAR, we’ve been big fans of surprise trips for a long time. Ever since our first issue in fall 2009, we’ve been sending writers like Alton Brown and Charmaine Craig to destinations such as New Zealand and Lisbon with just 24 hours’ notice in our “ Spin the Globe ” feature. Surprise travel has become a full-blown trend in recent years as more companies start to offer these trip-planning services.

In fact, Pinterest discovered that searches for “Surprise Destination” increased 192 percent in the last six months of 2018, beating out other popular travel terms like “Hot Springs” and “Autumn Scenery.” The desire to be more spontaneous appears to be at the root of this trend. In their 2018 Travel Trends Report , Ford Motor Company found that 52 percent of U.S. travelers said they enjoy getting lost and spontaneously discovering hidden restaurants and shops to create unique memories when they travel.

Exploring Newport in a 2018 Ford Mustang

Exploring Newport in a 2018 Ford Mustang

I’m the kind of traveler who finds great joy in researching destinations and poring over guidebooks months in advance of my trips, but when Pack Up and Go and Ford offered to let me borrow a 2018 Ford Mustang for a three-day surprise road trip, I jumped at the opportunity. As a travel editor, whenever I take off with my friends or family, I tend to handle most of the reservations and research. But sometimes, it’s nice to let someone else do the planning. For group travel it can be hard to pick one destination that checks all the boxes for your group.

But that doesn’t mean Pack Up and Go picks a place at random and sends you there. When I booked the trip, I took a short survey that asked me about the last few places I had been and where I was planning to go next (to make sure they wouldn’t send me on a repeat trip), and details about the kind of traveler I was. Do I prefer museums to shopping? A quiet night in or one out on the town?

Other than that, all I knew before I left were a few vague details. The trip would be in a midsize city within a four-hour drive of my home in New York (Pack Up and Go also plans air and train trips within three to four hours of your home for people without access to cars). I also received a weather report a week before departing. While the details I was given eliminated larger cities farther away like Boston and Washington, D.C., my mind swirled with the possibilities.

Technically, there was nothing stopping me from ripping open that envelope the second it arrived, but the secret was half the fun. The week before I left, my friends all sent me their destination guesses. Some thought Philadelphia, others were convinced it was either Baltimore or Annapolis, while exactly one friend guessed Newport correctly.

Pack Up and Go had also printed out directions to and from Newport’s Mill Street Inn , where they had booked me for two nights. The Mustang I borrowed was kitted out with Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay, which made it easy to listen to my own music and get directions at the same time—without burning through my entire data plan.

No trip to Newport is complete without sunset drinks at Castle Hill Inn.

No trip to Newport is complete without sunset drinks at Castle Hill Inn.

In addition to providing suggestions for things to do once I arrived in Newport, Pack Up and Go also gave me conveniently timed suggestions for places to stop for lunch along the way (I never would have happened upon the SoNo Baking Co. in South Norwalk, Connecticut, otherwise). It was also nice to get off the highway and into Narragansett—home to one of the best beaches in Rhode Island —for a quick detour. When I arrived in Newport, I found the Mill Street Inn to be a bit understated for my tastes. But after waking up the next morning, I realized it was in the most peacefully quiet location while also being within a short walk or drive of other recommendations like the White Horse Tavern, Cliff Walk , and Castle Hill Inn . I can deal with beige decor for an undisturbed night of sleep and convenience any day. While Pack Up and Go’s suggestions were spot-on, Instagram was another trove of information for the spontaneous trip. I got brunch recommendations from a friend’s wife who had gone to high school in Newport, and also found out that a past colleague’s brother ran the Midtown Oyster Bar on Thames Street. So while I was enjoying a glass of sancerre and a half-dozen local oysters, chef James Mitchell gave me tips for where to find affordable lobster rolls ( Anthony’s Seafood , just a 10-minute drive away in Middletown) and the best place to drink a pint next to locals ( Pour Judgement on Broadway).

How to plan your own surprise trip

Pack Up and Go offers two-night, three-day surprise trips starting at $400. But Magical Mystery Tours , Surprise Me Trips , and the Vacation Hunt also offer these kinds of trip-planning services. If you’re confident in your trip-planning skills, you can also surprise a family member, friend, or significant other with a trip (FYI, Valentine’s Day falls right before the long Presidents’ Day weekend this year).

You can take one of two approaches: To build anticipation—and give your travel partner a little bit of a warning—pick a weekend that you’re both free and drop hints in the weeks leading up to it with details about the weather and any special gear to pack. Then when you get to the airport or load up your car’s GPS, reveal the secret destination. If your travel partner really enjoys being spontaneous, you can also secretly clear his or her schedule ahead of time and pack their bag for an even bigger surprise the day you depart.

Introducing the latest trend in travel: surprise trips to places that won’t be revealed to you until it’s go time.

Jubel , a tech-enabled travel company founded in 2015 in California, offers customized multi-destination getaways and route planning. It can also save you more than 55 percent in travel costs compared with booking a trip yourself, thanks to insider travel deals. Jubel also offers surprise trips .

Fill out its survey with your preferred dates, budget, and travel style, and it’ll send you a trip proposal. You can be completely surprised by the destination or learn the continent or country ahead of time. Once you’ve booked, you’ll get sealed envelopes to open along your journey, plus details on what to pack and when to show up at the airport. International trips start at around $1,000 per person per week.

Pack Up and Go

Want a weekend getaway in the U.S. without any hassle of planning it? Enter Pack Up and Go , founded in 2016 in Pittsburgh. Give the company your dates and budget, and complete a quick survey (sample question: Do you want action, relaxation, or culture?), and it will do the rest for you. Prior to your trip, you’ll get a packing list, flight information, and a weather forecast. Days before you leave, an envelope with your destination and itinerary will arrive in the mail. Open it at the airport. Trips start at $400 per person.

The Vacation Hunt

up and go road trip ad

Whether you have three days or two weeks, the expert travelers at the Vacation Hunt , started in 2017 by a husband and wife in Washington, D.C., will plan a trip for you. Tell the reps what you’re looking for (spas or zoos? bars or museums?) and they’ll start sending you clues as to where you’re going. Packaged trips in the U.S. start at $750 per person; international trips start at $950. They also offer gift certificates if you want to give someone else a surprise trip.

Magical Mystery Tours

up and go road trip ad

With Magical Mystery Tours , you won’t know where you’re going until you show up at the airport. First, enter your preferences: Do you want a foreign trip? Do you dislike the cold or the beach? Would you prefer heading to the desert or someplace tropical? Then input your dates, budget, and who you’re traveling with. The company will take care of the details. Magical Mystery Tours has been booking destination vacations to locations all over the globe since 2009. Cost depends on the length of the trip, whether it’s international or domestic travel, and the kind of accommodations you want. Weekend trips for two start at $1,500.

Surprise Me Trips

Choose between quick road trips from your hometown or far-flung destinations via airplane. You’ll get details about what to bring and where to be just before your departure. For its weekend road trips, tell the company where you want to start, and it will plan a surprise itinerary around your region, including a few nights in different locales and major landmarks and activities to check out along the way. Despite this travel company’s name, it will also arrange trips that don’t come as a surprise, if that’s more your thing. Surprise Me Trips was launched by three well-traveled friends in Texas in 2016. Weekend regional road trips start at $375.

Black Tomato

up and go road trip ad

In 2017, high-end travel company Black Tomato  debuted its  Get Lost service, which creates adventurous tailor-made expeditions to wilderness destinations like Mongolia or the Arctic that are kept entirely a secret from you. Here’s how it works: select a polar, jungle, coastal, desert, or mountain trip—or have Black Tomato choose that, too—and book at least six months in advance to give you time to train and prepare. When you arrive at your location, you’ll be outfitted with all the gear you need, plus a private transfer from the airport to your starting point and a satellite phone for emergencies. Chart your way through a series of mapped-out checkpoints using navigational technology and your own two feet. The journey ends at a luxury retreat. Average Get Lost trips cost around $15,000 per person—but there are shorter, less expensive options, too.

Rustic Pathways

up and go road trip ad

Designed for high school students looking for an exciting summer group trip, student-travel company Rustic Pathways offers a mystery trip to an unknown international destination. Before departure you’ll get a Patagonia duffel bag sent to you that’s filled with clues and a few essentials. Then arrive at the designated airport and spend the next two weeks exploring foreign cities and remote villages with other intrepid students as a guide leads the way. As of press time, there were still a few spots left on an upcoming trip in late June. It costs $5,995, not including airfare.

Pack Up & Go Review – Why The Mystery Vacation Is Worth The Hype

One week and a whole lot of mystery later, I’m home and getting back into my routine after our Pack Up & Go trip . After several months of waiting, I can’t believe it’s over. But I’m already plotting my next adventure. I read quite a few articles when I first discovered the mystery travel agency. So I thought I’d share my experience. Everything from the amazing to the extremely picky is included in today’s Pack Up & Go review. Let’s get started!

A Pack Up & Go Review featured by top US travel blogger, What Savvy Said

Pack Up & Go Review

What is pack up and go.

First things first, what am I even talking about? Pack Up & Go is a travel agency that plans 3 day+ vacations with a twist. You pick your budget, the city want you to leave from, how you’d like to travel (car, train, plane), and when you want to go. But they pick your destination. And it’s only in the USA.

HOW DOES PACK UP AND GO WORK?

There are several budget options available. You can choose from plane/train travel, road trips, outdoor destinations, and staycations. You’re required to book at least 4 weeks in advance. However, if you know when you want to travel, I’d suggest booking as soon as possible. They are growing in popularity and may already be too full to take your trip on.

You pay upfront for the cost of the trip. If you’re traveling with a group, you should know that only one person can pay for the trip. So be prepared to pay your friend(s) back. They also offer travel insurance and will send you quotes.

WHICH TRIP DID WE PICK?

We opted for a 3 day plane trip with a budget of $750 per person. We also opted for travel insurance and that worked out to be about $30 a person. Because our airport is smaller and tends to have flights that range from $300-400, we wanted to make sure we weren’t limited with a $650 budget. Plus, we figured that if nothing else it would go towards a nicer hotel.

What does the budget cover?

The cost per person covers your plane & hotel fares. If there’s any additional leftover, they will use it towards something they think you might like or find useful. But I think we pretty much maxed ours out.

Our Mystery Trip: A Pack Up & Go Review #whatsavvysaid #packupandgo #packupandgoreview #washingtondc #mysterytrip

WHERE DID WE GO?

We went to Washington DC!

HOW DID PACK UP AND GO PICK WASHINGTON DC FOR US?

When you book your trip, they ask you lots of questions. Everything from previous travel to things you prefer to do are on the questionnaire. We’ve both lived in bigger cities ( Birmingham , Atlanta , Tampa) so we made sure to include that info so we didn’t end up there. We also noted the places we’ve recently been or will be going in the next few months ( Orlando ,  Nashville , St. Louis) so they wouldn’t send us there.

WHEN DO YOU FIND OUT WHERE YOU’RE GOING?

You’ll get a packet of info in the mail a few days before you leave as well as an email with all of your documentation. It includes where you’re going, a suggested itinerary, and any other pertinent information. You are free to open it whenever you’d like to know.

Some people wait until they get to the airport. My anxiety could never. We chose to open our packet the night before so we could make sure we had anything special packed we might want to shoot or wear.

HOW DO YOU PACK FOR A TRIP WITHOUT KNOWING WHERE YOU’RE GOING?

Your travel agent will send you the weather for your trip a week before along with any packing notes. We were told that there was a lot of walking and the option for a rooftop pool. Personally, I’d suggest packing a pair of shoes you’d be comfortable with doing a lot of walking in no matter where you go. When I first read the note about walking, I didn’t think it would be at the level we did. So I ended up being happy we looked ahead of time.

Our Mystery Trip: A Pack Up & Go Review #whatsavvysaid #packupandgo #packupandgoreview #washingtondc #mysterytrip

HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY YOU’LL NEED WHEN YOU’RE THERE?

Because I went with one of my best friends on our Pack Up & Go Trip , we know our spending habits pretty well. We’re both foodies and love a good meal. But we will also split food if we want to save funds. We’ve also been fortunate enough to take several 3 day trips before so we decided to plan as though we’d end up in one of the few cities we knew we’d want to splash out more in (LA or NYC). Neither one of us wanted to feel like we couldn’t enjoy ourselves on our trip. I’d suggest keeping in mind the activities you’d like to do and budget around it.

If there are certain events (i.e. broadway shows or dinner theaters), I’d keep those in mind. And because you don’t know the location, I’d advise saving extra for transportation. We used lyft  or walked while in DC and it worked great. But depending on where you go, you may want the extra budget for a rental car.

DO YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT’S ON THE ITINERARY?

Not at all. They give you tons of suggestions for things to do. We honestly had enough options that I could easily plan a 2nd trip from our itinerary. However, it’s up to you how you choose to spend your time.

We took a lot of things from the list and we also winged it when we felt like it. It’s nice not having to search for where to grab dinner or something you might like to do. So we mostly consulted our list and went from there. But it’s your trip so do what makes you happy!

WHAT DID I LIKE ABOUT OUR PACK UP AND GO TRIP?

Honestly I loved not having to plan anything. I never would have picked DC to go to again since I’ve been before. But we had such a blast. Our hotel was lovely and they made sure to leave a bottle of champagne in our room to celebrate my birthday. We told Pack Up & Go that was why we were going. We made friends with the rooftop bartender, Joseph, who told us about another awesome rooftop bar with an amazing view.

Plus, Pack Up & Go suggested lots of places I’d never been before. The Museum of the Bible , Newseum & The International Spy Museum were all new to me. We ate lots of amazing food and saw some great places. It was a lot fun.

Our Mystery Trip: A Pack Up & Go Review #whatsavvysaid #packupandgo #packupandgoreview #washingtondc #mysterytrip

WHAT DIDN’T I LIKE ABOUT OUR PACK UP AND GO TRIP?

There really wasn’t much that I didn’t like about our trip. There were two things I’d note but neither are major. Our hotel had a nightly amenity fee that we didn’t know about and wasn’t covered ahead of time. We made sure to maximize on what they offered (wine hour in the lobby, fresh coffee in the mornings, etc.) so I think we got the most from it. But it wasn’t something I anticipated we would need to cover.

The other note isn’t really a dislike but something we found challenging. Inevitably, we felt like needed more time. With such a big city, we really needed one more full day to do all the things we wanted to do. We spent a full day traveling and a lot of the places we wanted to go closed at 5pm. So it limited what we were really able to see. Ps. we booked this trip when only 3 day, 2 night options were available.

OTHER NOTES?

The morning of our trip, our plane had an issue. There was a brief time where we thought our flight was going to be delayed by an hour which would have caused us to miss our 2nd flight. As soon as we saw it, I called our Pack Up & Go travel agent Jordan to let her know. She was amazing. Super on it and ready to help find us alternatives within 5 minutes. We also reached out looking for later flights home and she was incredibly helpful. I can’t imagine a smoother trip or experience.

I also think it’s worth nothing what could be considered a downside to traveling with  Pack Up & Go . The idea behind not planning or stressing about a trip is amazing. But there is a chance you’ll end up in a city  and not be able to snag tickets ahead of time if there’s something you really want to do. Our itinerary suggested a local comedy club we were really excited to try. But they were sold out. We made sure to book anything we thought we’d want to do as early as possible ( dinner reservations). Nevertheless, there were a few things we would have done if we could have gotten tickets.

WOULD I BOOK WITH PACK UP AND GO AGAIN?

Absolutely, we had an amazing experience. If you are incredibly busy or just want to get away, I think it’s perfect for taking a trip without the stress. I also love that they took the time to find places they thought we would truly enjoy. And I really enjoyed everything we did. It’s something I’d love to do with my mom for a fun and stress free get away. So I definitely see myself using Pack Up & Go again.

DO I RECOMMEND PACK UP AND GO?

Yes! There was not a single person I’ve spoken to about the trip that had heard about it before. So I’m excited to see more people go and have just as much fun as we did. No matter what you like to do, your dietary preferences or where you’ve been before, Pack Up & Go is sure to be a new experience.

10 Affordable Road Trip Destinations in the U.S.

Want to take a road trip this summer? Consider these 10 destinations.

up and go road trip ad

CHUYN/Getty Images

This summer, skip the plane or train ride and hop in the car to embark on an epic road trip. Fortunately, the U.S. is home to dozens — if not hundreds — of incredible road trip destinations, some more budget-friendly than others. That’s why we tapped the pros at Turo , the world’s largest car-sharing marketplace, to determine the most affordable road trip destinations across the country.

“Turo has an incredible selection of vehicles for every budget, and there’s still time to rent an amazing vehicle this summer with plenty of vehicles under $50 (not including taxes or fees) all over the U.S., especially in Florida, Texas, and California,” says Albert Mangahas, Turo’s chief data officer. Along with some of the most beautiful beaches, these states are home to some of the nation’s most iconic national parks for travelers who prefer land over sea.

From the beaches of San Diego to the streets of Orlando, keep reading for the top cheap road trip destinations in the U.S. with rental car options under $50 per day based on data pulled by Turo.

Jacksonville, Florida

Michael Warren/Getty Images

This northern Florida city – which also happens to be the largest city in the continental U.S. — offers 22 miles of beautiful beaches, outdoor adventure, and America’s largest urban park system, making it a must-visit. After picking up your rental car, make a beeline straight for Jacksonville Beach, or tie up your laces and explore part of the 14.5-mile Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail, which features stunning forest scenery best explored on foot or bike. Art enthusiasts need not miss the expansive Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens , with a collection that spans 5,000 pieces and counting across several centuries. Families, meanwhile, will especially love the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens , which is home to over 2,000 majestic animals, including elephants, flamingos, and tigers. Pro tip: Plan your trip over a weekend to experience the Riverside Arts Market (open every Saturday, rain or shine) that sells handmade jewelry, art, produce, and more from over 100 local vendors.

Palm Beach, Florida

bpperry/Getty Images

Ready for the next stop on your Florida road trip? About 70 miles north of Miami lies posh Palm Beach. Known as “ The Hamptons of the South ,” this ritzy seaside enclave is home to an abundance of swanky bars, restaurants, and designer shops. Fortunately, summer marks the destination’s off-season, which means you can enjoy many of the tony town’s top hotels — including the Brazilian Court Hotel , Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa , or The Colony Hotel — for a fraction of the cost compared to winter rates. The region itself is home to 47 miles of beaches, which are, by far, the top attraction here. However, travelers need not sleep on the scenic 5.5-mile Lake Trail or Worth Avenue, which is lined with chic boutiques. After breaking a sweat or shopping, hit up local hot spots like Green’s Pharmacy & Luncheonette and Sprinkles Ice Cream . Finally, for some reprieve, check out the idyllic Mounts Botanical Garden in nearby West Palm Beach , an easy drive from Palm Beach proper.

Houston, Texas

Vincent Mercer/Travel + Leisure

Houston makes for an ideal long weekend getaway, and renting a car makes it easy to explore the destination’s many distinct neighborhoods, especially when you consider the fact that Houston itself is so large (640.04 square miles, to be exact!). Stops at The Galleria and the Space Center are a requisite, but having a car allows you to explore some off-the-beaten-path spots, such as The Beer Can House (which, yes, is exactly what it sounds like) and the National Museum of Funeral History . Travelers may also retreat to nature at Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park or the Buffalo Bayou Park ; alternatively, drive a half-hour to Lake Houston Wilderness Park in nearby New Caney.

San Antonio, Texas

Between its history (don’t miss The Alamo), 15-mile River Walk, and abundance of eclectic drinking and dining options (it’s one of very few U.S. cities to be named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy ), San Antonio is well worthy of a spot on your summer travel list , Upon arrival, hop in your car and head straight to the trendy-but-historic Pearl District, where you can admire public art along the 1.3-mile Museum Reach , which also happens to be a haven for foodies with an abundance of top-notch eateries like Best Quality Daughter , which dishes out delectable Asian-American fare. While there is so much to see and do within the city limits — including the aforementioned Alamo and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park — you can also hop in the car to visit Fredericksburg (approx. 90 minutes away by car), which is teeming with wineries and scenic hiking, including the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area .

Orlando, Florida

Taylor McIntyre/Travel + Leisure

While there’s lots to love about Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando , this central Florida city and its surroundings offer so much more than the incredible theme parks that call Orlando home. Nature lovers can get out on the water via a guided kayak tour through Wekiwa Springs State Park, known for its emerald springs and incredible swimming and hiking, or paddle through the canals in the nearby city of Winter Park . Culinary connoisseurs will also be pleased to find that Orlando was recently voted America’s best food city , and it’s home to Michelin-ranked spots across a variety of price points and cuisines, including Otto’s High Dive for fantastic Cuban food and cocktails, The Strand for seasonal New American fare, and Camille for tasty Vietnamese. There are plenty of free things to do in Orlando too, be it a scenic stroll through Lake Eola Park, classic car shows in nostalgia-inducing Old Town, or self-guided mural tours through the Mills 50 District.

Tampa, Florida

Michela Sieman/Travel + Leisure

Want to add to your Florida itinerary? Dubbed Florida’s new “It” city, Tampa has become increasingly trendy in recent years thanks to the 2022 opening of The Tampa EDITION and a slew of haute restaurants like Ash , Casa Cami , and Predalina . You may be tempted to spend your entire trip posted up in the hip and highly walkable Water Street Tampa district — which is almost always buzzing thanks to its abundance of green space, restaurants, and hotels — but don’t be afraid to neighborhood-hop, which is incredibly easy to do with a car. While it spans just six blocks, Hyde Park Village is an upscale neighborhood renowned for its shopping and dining, and Seminole Heights boasts tree-lined streets and quaint homes. Ybor City, meanwhile, teems with historic charm, vintage shops, and Cuban and Latin American restaurants. For the best city views, venture off to Davis Islands , which also offer Instagram-worthy, pastel-hued buildings that look like they’ve been plucked straight from the Mediterranean.

Sacramento, California

casch/Getty Images

California’s capital city is often overlooked in favor of more popular spots like San Francisco or Los Angeles, but don’t let that deter you from visiting. The destination is chock-full of distinct charm and character. Located along the water, Old Sacramento — which has been deemed a National Historic Landmark District and State Historic Park — pays homage to the 1849 Gold Rush era with dozens of recreated and restored buildings, wooden sidewalks, and horse-drawn carriages. History buffs will also appreciate a visit to the state capital . Additionally, it’s worth noting that the city offers 230-plus days of sunshine each year, making it a haven for outdoor lovers with activities like biking, hiking, and al fresco concerts. The city is also home to over 650 murals, making it a fun stop for art enthusiasts. Looking to escape Sacramento for a day or so? Consider a trip to Lake Tahoe or San Francisco, which are 90 minutes and two hours away, respectively.

Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas

The Dallas-Fort Worth region spans over 9,000 square miles, so renting a car here is a no-brainer. In Dallas proper, visitors can enjoy a much-needed break from the scorching heat by cooling off inside one of the city’s many museums, including the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza , the Perot Museum of Nature and Science , and the Dallas Museum of Art . The 68-square-mile Dallas Arts District serves as the city’s arts and culture hub,  while the Uptown neighborhood boasts a buzzy drinking and dining scene. The Bishops Arts District, which is known for its top-notch shopping, entertainment, and street art, is also a must-visit. Meanwhile, in Fort Worth — approximately 45 minutes from Dallas by car — a visit to the Stockyards feels like a step back in time to the Wild West with cattle drives and rodeos. The city is also home to the National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame.

San Diego, California

Chelsea Loren/Travel + Leisure

This sunny SoCal city is renowned for its warm weather, stunning stretches of sand, and lush parks, making it a great choice for a long weekend getaway. It goes without saying, but a trip to the beach here is one for the books. Options run the gamut from Cardiff State Beach , to the lively Moonlight State Beach in nearby Encinitas, which is a popular spot for swimming, surfing, and volleyball, to bustling Coronado Beach . Be sure to also carve out enough time to explore the city’s other equally impressive sights, including Belmont Park, an oceanfront amusement park that practically oozes nostalgia; the expansive Balboa Park, which is home to the San Diego Zoo; and the historic Gaslamp Quarter that’s teeming with nightlife. La Jolla, a quick 20-minute drive from downtown, is famous for its rugged coastline, abundance of seals and sea lions, scenic trails (don’t miss Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve ), incredible golf, and charming downtown area.

Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area

Victoria Chamberlain/Travel + Leisure

It’s no secret that our nation’s capital is beloved among history buffs for its many monuments, landmarks, and (free) museums, but there’s so much more to see, do, and explore both in the city and nearby. Georgetown and The Wharf are two of D.C.’s trendiest neighborhoods, and both are teeming with eclectic shopping, drinking, and dining venues. Additionally, travelers can — and should — venture outside the city limits to explore nearby destinations such as Old Town Alexandria (approximately eight miles away), which offers quaint cobblestone streets and 18th-century townhouses. A bit further away is Loudoun County , which is famous for its wineries, vineyards, and storybook-worthy towns like Middleburg and Leesburg.
