NASHVILLE – If you had to choose one of the starting five members from the Kansas City Outlaws ’ Sunday afternoon roster which kept the team from a perfect 5-for-5 (which would’ve been the fourth perfect game in league history), smart money wouldn’t have Cassio Dias anywhere on the big board.

But that was the exact reality Sunday when the team saw their closer get sent to the dirt by Stone Cold Gangster in 5.12 seconds.

Now 6-for-14 on the season after turning in a 71-point effort Friday to help his team secure a win against the Oklahoma Wildcatters and following it up with an elite 92.5-point dance with Tulsa Time , he’s snapped the six-out buckoff streak he brought into the weekend.

But he’s still somehow just 2-for-9 lately as the effects of his grueling 2024 World Championship-capturing campaign may be creeping in. When you’re compared to the “Iron Man,” none other than his PBR Teams coach J.W. Hart , you’re going to endure some bumps and bruises.

But he appears to be healthy, all things considered. And just as the ever bull-friendly mathematical equation says riders will have their down days, the same applies for the idea it was just a matter of time before Dias bounced back.

“He’s in a little bit of a slump but he rode really well the first day and then he went for 92 in the second one,” Hart shared.

Citing some concern for how quickly his all-star was placed on the clock Sunday, he didn’t feel Dias had a great opportunity to get his rope pulled. He’s not here to complain, but offered some additional context.

“That comes with the territory and it happens. We’re not complaining. If ands and buts, but it’ll work out. He’ll work it out. His mind’s right and that bull is a really tough bull, so I don’t mind him getting bucked off it. I don’t want him falling off and making stupid mistakes but that one was a tough one.”

The craziest part of Dias’ recent struggles is that the standout Brazilian is still ranked No. 9 in the MVP standings, mostly courtesy of his red-hot 4-for-5 start back in July.

It would’ve been nice to see the team produce a flawless performance had Dias made the 8.

But life goes on – Especially when Kansas City was still able to pull off an electric 337.75-0 win over the Austin Gamblers .

“It feels good to kind of get focused and get things lined up hopefully and we go from there. You’re only as good as you are today, so we have next week to work on,” he added.

When you consider they put up a sound 233 points on Friday, ending the weekend 7-for-10 as a collective unit, things are just fine both in the locker room and within the official league standings for the No. 2 Outlaws.

Victorious in their past three contests, they trail only the No. 1 runaway Carolina Cowboys , who extended their insane start to the 2024 season with yet another win Sunday.

But it’s teams like the Outlaws and Gamblers that currently best represent contingents who may be able to give the checkered-flag squad some trouble come the 2024 PBR Teams Championship.

Especially if the Outlaws keep riding so well as a team.

A fter Bob Mitchell was initially called for a slap during Sunday’s finale against a fellow top-tier team in the Gamblers, Hart knew he needed to use his challenge. Both in fighting for his cowboy and recognizing his opponent.

“At that point we had gotten two bulls down and that’s all we had at the time down. We knew we had two tough bulls behind him and we knew we were facing Austin on the other side,” Hart explained.

“I didn’t see anything in the flash of it and game speed of it. Nobody else did, but it’s just worth the shot to try to stay ahead of Austin.”

While the challenge didn’t end up making the largest of differences in the blowout win, it still kept the team’s hot start alive. The way Sandro Batista has been starting things off for the Outlaws is lightning in a bottle. So it’s hard not to want to keep the train rolling.

“We try to put the big score at the front and at the end,” Hart shared, plain and simply.

The pair of Brazilians played their part throughout the team’s 2-0 weekend, undoubtedly. But the weekend overall was truly a team effort, with six different Outlaws riders making the 8 at one point.

Koltin Hevalow was technically the only rider to go 2-for-2 as the team spread out the workload. His rather rank conversion for 90.75 points atop Ridin’ Salty not only represented the 21-year-old’s highest-scored ride, but his first 90 in general.

Which is hard to believe considering how well he normally shows his bulls off.

“I don’t know – That’s for the judges to worry about. Good to see though. Good to see,” Hart shared in reflecting on the youngster’s new career-high mark.

Add in the fact he just turned in a career-best No. 10 finish during the 2024 Unleash The Beast campaign and everything seems to be adding up for one of J.W. Hart’s many youngsters.

Kansas City and Carolina are currently the only teams with three riders ranked in the Top 10 of the MVP standings, with Hevalow (now 7-for-12 and ranked No. 6), Dias (6-for-14 and ranked No. 9) and Batista (6-for-11, tied for No. 10) in the mix for Kansas City.

Getting in on the fun via a conversion during his PBR Teams debut, rookie Maikon Calixto Rocha – the team’s first-round pick from 2024 draft, a man Guilherme Marchi said has a chance to be the “next Cassio Dias” – was successful in his 5-on-5 debut. Scored 85 points dancing with Workin’ Man , the Brazilian talent may not be looking to take Dias’ job. But he’s very much a welcome addition to the lineup.

Hart has had the “Outlaw Attitude” engrained in his guys since day one. But it took the team a few weeks to rediscover what that mentality looked and felt like. To the orange and black skipper, he credits his guys coming together in getting some mid-season wins rolling.

“The message really started two weeks ago when we had what I thought was a bad weekend. Last week we started to see a little turn around and then this week we still weren’t satisfied coming in this week,” Hart said.

“We had two good practice days at home at the ranch and the demeanor of the guys, when you lay it out that we’re halfway through the season, we’re middle of the pack and that ain’t where we belong. And they grasped that and realized it. Tuesday and Wednesday this week, they turned up the focus and it’s been a completely different team than the first three or four weeks.”

Set to enter the Week 6 slate with a 7-4 record while occupying the league’s No. 2 rank, the Outlaws will prepare to face the Texas Rattlers and undefeated Carolina Cowboys at PBR Teams: Gambler Days.

That matchup with the Cowboys (potentially a PBR Teams Championship matchup?) will be must-see TV, so be sure to stay tuned to Merit Street and the Merit+ App for all of this summer's PBR Camping World Team Series.

160-year-old Lansing prison opening for tours this fall

LANSING, Kan. (KCTV) — The limestone facade of the old Lansing Correctional Facility looms imposingly. From Kansas City, the state prison is the first of three historic prisons , including the United States Federal Penitentiary (USP) in Leavenworth. Lansing, originally known as the Kansas State Penitentiary, is the oldest of them all.

Now, the Civil War-era state prison will be open for tours to the public, thanks to a partnership with the Missouri Department of Corrections and the Lansing Historical Society and Museum. The two signed on the dotted line this month, more than a year after the idea first formed.

It began when State Senator Jeff Pittman was sitting in the Budget Committee of the State Senate. A new prison had opened right behind the historic structure. They were discussing demolishing the old one at a price tag of $10 million. It was costing too much to maintain. Pittman suggested an alternative that he thought could cost less while also preserving it.

“So I worked across the aisle, got some consensus, and stopped the demolition. And I said, give us a year, and we can find somebody we think that could take this over and really do a great job with it,” Pittman recounted.

They found their partner in the historical society, whose small museum sits at the end of the road leading into the prison.

“It took someone in his position to get this all going because anybody just walking in and saying to the warden, ‘Hey, we want to save this,’ that wasn’t a possibility,” said Debra Bates-Lamborn, the president of the Lansing Historical Society and Museum.

The state committed $500,000 to stabilize the roof and walls and get the project going but the hope is to eventually make it self-sustaining with admission covering the costs. Pittman and Bates-Lamborn saw a success story at the penitentiary museum in Jefferson City, Missouri.

“I looked at the numbers, and they bring in about a million dollars a year in revenue, just a little under that,” said Pittman. “I realized we can do that and more because our stories here have just a bit more impact, have a little bit more color, have a little bit more notoriety.”

Some of the stories behind the walls that span more than a century are well-known. It housed the men who killed the Clutter family. Their murder was the subject of the Truman Capote book In Cold Blood, which was later turned into a movie. Johnny Cash performed there in 1970.

Other stories are less well-known. Back in the 1930s, their warden was kidnapped by a throng of inmates in an attempt to escape.

“He was kidnapped about two days before he was set to retire. I mean, that’s a heck of a way to go,” said Bates-Lamborn.

The warden survived. The inmates were eventually caught.

The kidnapping and escape is one of the stories that will be featured, but Pittman added that the story will also include the apprehension of the men. He said some of the experience will include a look into the life of the prison guards.

That’s the serious side of the historical tours, but Pittman’s trip to Jefferson City also opened his eyes to another draw: paranormal tours. That’s coming soon too. They also plan to promote the site as a place for filming. The Discovery Channel is planning a visit for a 2-hour special at the Kansas State Penitentiary to air on Halloween.

The first big event public event is a car show inside the walls of the old prison, inside the courtyard. “Behind the Walls” car show is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They don’t have a firm date for the first tour but are selling raffle tickets this weekend for a chance to be in the first group of ten. They will be open Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for purchases. Raffle tickets are $25 each.

Tours are organized by theme and include looks at parks, museums, art, barbecue and more, and are generally held every day of the week. If you’re hesitant about operating a Segway, don’t be. Guides offer brief, one-on-one instruction before the tour begins to ensure everyone is comfortable before departing.

Are you ready to eat your way through popular KC neighborhoods? While not on foot, the Gangster Tour takes you back in time to organized crime's heyday in Kansas City as you investigate popular hangouts and crime scenes, including Union Station and more.

Behind the Scenes Views

Before you raise a glass and enjoy some of Kansas City’s favorite beverages, why not get a closer look at how they’re made? Several hometown facilities offer tours that typically conclude with a of tasting.

The always-popular Boulevard Brewing Company tours are available in several varieties, including free, 60-minute public treks through the production facility, a two-hour Smokestack experience and tasting and private tours—oh, and samples are included with each. And when you’re done, keep the fun flowing in the Boulevard Beer Hall, complete with exhibits, an expanded shop and, upstairs, 24 beers on tap plus food.

Coffee lovers: Don’t leave Kansas City without stopping by The Roasterie , the best way to get an up-close look at the air-roasted coffee company’s cupping, roasting and blending processes. Complimentary tours are held seven days a week and include coffee samples.

Kansas City’s distillery scene thrived until the ravages of Prohibition. Now? It’s experiencing a delicious comeback. Tom’s Town Distilling Co . , Downtown Kansas City’s first legal distillery since Prohibition, offers one-hour tours that include an in-depth look at the distillation process and history of the company’s namesake: Boss Tom Pendergast.

J. Rieger & Company , founded in 1887 in the West Bottoms, was a casualty of Prohibition—but the iconic whiskey brand lives again, thanks to co-founders Ryan Maybee and Andy Rieger. Now, the spirits flow from a distillery in the East Bottoms, which offers tours on select Saturdays. Plan to spend around two hours in the distillery learning about the history and legacy of J. Rieger & Co., as well as the distilling process—and, of course, sampling whiskey.

T aylor Swift's fans always get excited when her boyfriend Travis Kelce shows up at one of her performances, but one of her exes showed his support for the "Cruel Summer" superstar on Monday, August 19. Taylor Lautner, who the "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" songstress famously dated in 2009, attended her Wembley Stadium performance in London.

The Twilight star, 32, was wearing a white T-shirt, and fans were quick to note that he wore the friendship bracelets that have become a hallmark of Eras Tour performances. The actor shared his own pic of the bracelets on his Instagram story on August 19.

This isn't the first time that Lautner has cheered on Swift, 33, since her record-shattering tour began. The actor and dancer appeared onstage in Kansas City when Swift premiered her music video for "I Can See You," which stars Lautner and actresses Presley Cash and Joey King. Lautner surprised fans and even Swift for herself with a double cartwheel on the stage, which he said "wasn't planned." The appearance also coincided with the release of Swift's album Speak Now (Taylor's Version) , featuring the breakup ballad "Back To December" that she penned to apologize to Lautner. The exes shared a warm hug onstage, to the delight of the fans.

Swift and Lautner met on the set of the film Valentine's Day , where they played two madly-in-love high school students, and dated in the fall of 2009. In "Back To December," the singer apologizes for her treatment of Lautner, but it seems there are no hard feelings between the famous Taylors. (Lautner is now married to nurse Taylor Dome, who also legally changed her name to Taylor Lautner. )

Fans on X seemed thrilled to see Lautner in the audience at the London show, with some very amused that he was waving directly to the Swifties who tried to take his picture.

Return rental at or before the agreed upon time.

Complete all pre and post trip inspections.

We recommend wearing a helmet but we do not require it. (you must bring your own)

Passengers under 12 must have a driver 25 or older.

Pets may ride at their and your own risk. (These seats are not designed for pets, so you are responsible for your pets safety and any damage they cause)

No Alcohol or Drug Use is permitted during the rental period.

While in Vehicle

Wear appropriate safety equipment such as seat belts.

Make sure children are safely buckled in.

Keep doors closed while vehicle is moving.

Only one passenger per seat

Passengers must be in a seat not on any other part of vehicle.

Do not drive in water deeper than the vehicles floorboard.

Never operate vehicle beyond your skill level.

Avoid traversing (going sideways) on hills to lower the risk of a roll-over, the best approach for hills is straight up or down.

Do not tow with your rental or let the rental be towed, if stuck or if the vehicle is inoperable please notify Kc Offroad Rentals
