Get to Know Carnival Freedom

Carnival Freedom has a message for you, and its "feel free to have fun!" Explore the ship and you'll find food options galore, starting with two dining rooms, but definitely extending outdoors — there's mouth-watering Guy Fieri burgers at Guy's Burger Joint ™ , plus the greatest tacos and burritos this side of the pier at BlueIguana Cantina ™ . For delicious, but quick and easy, selections from the sea, get your chopsticks around all the good stuff at Bonsai Sushi Express ™ . For every great food spot, there's a great place to enjoy drinks, too, from the toe-tapping Scott's Piano Bar to the always-hoppin' 70's Nightclub. For the thirsty, libation hotspots include Alchemy Bar ® and the place we all gather to raise very important toasts: Heroes Tribute ™ Bar & Lounge. Everybody's favorite outdoor seaside bar is here... whether yours is the RedFrog Rum Bar ® or BlueIguana Tequila Bar ™ . (Or hey, make it both!) The rum bar's older brother, RedFrog Pub ® , features drinks, live music and traditional pub games. Topping off adult-time is Serenity — adult-only, of course — the retreat where total relaxation is not only encouraged, but pretty much required. If you're a kid, Carnival Freedom means you're in for a treat. Not only will you find new friends at one of three youth spaces — like Camp Ocean ® — but you can splash around with them in one of our many pools, speed down a waterslide at Carnival WaterWorks ™ , or once you dry off, challenge them to a round of mini-golf. Oh, and adults — don't get jealous; your inner kid gets to do all this stuff too! Up on stage is Playlist Productions ™ , featuring songs you know... and dance moves you'll soon be using. And for the cherry on top... it's actually called Cherry On Top ™ . It's the spot for something special, whether that something's a little something sweet — or simply a little something to sweeten a special occasion.

5 Day Caribbean Cruises

An unforgettable vacation under the sun

Set sail on a blissful vacation on one of our 5-day Caribbean cruises. These stunning itineraries visit some of the region’s most coveted destinations, including The Bahamas, Mexico, and Key West.

Our 5-day cruises combine visits to beautiful beaches in ports like Nassau, Bimini, and Cozumel with two serene days at sea, where you’ll have the chance to revel in all of the spectacular venues and amenities available on our award-winning ships. Spend your days exploring tropical islands and festive beach towns. Later, unwind onboard and enjoy world-class dining, unlimited entertainment options, and impeccable service.

Itineraries

Featured ports of call, nassau, bahamas.

Experience a tropical paradise in Nassau, where white-sand beaches and turquoise waters are found at every turn. Spend your day exploring the city’s bright colors, mouthwatering cuisine, and heavenly beaches. Snorkel over coral reefs, surrounded by tropical fish and maybe even sea turtles. Shop for gifts in the famous Straw Market, where artisans sell handmade goods. For an indulgent day, head to the Atlantis Resort, a luxurious complex with glorious beaches and thrilling water slides.

Bimini, Bahamas

Sleepy Bimini is surrounded by pristine beaches, dazzling reefs, and thrilling wrecks. Snorkel around the semi-submerged Sapona shipwreck, teeming with tropical fish. Paddle a kayak through sparkling turquoise water, or stand in the warm shallows as friendly stingrays mill around. If you’ve developed a taste for conch, a Bahamian specialty, join a conch cruise to see how locals free dive for the shells. Once you’re back on the island, try delicious conch fritters for yourself.

Cozumel, Mexico

You’ll find it easy to relax on the island of Cozumel, an untouched slice of paradise just off the coast of Mexico. Lounge under the sun on pristine beaches with powder-soft sand like Playa Palancar and El Cielo, which fittingly translates to “heaven.” Dive into crystal-clear waters and spot starfish, sea turtles, and dazzling coral reefs. Or embark on an unforgettable day trip to the nearby ruins of Tulum or Chichen Itza, where you’ll walk on the former grounds of an ancient Mayan citadel.

Key West, Florida

Explore quirky Key West, a tiny Florida town that packs a large punch. Key West is known for its laid-back attitude, which is on full display in famous Duval Street, where you can dip in and out of lively restaurants and bars and try a slice of deliciously tangy Key lime pie. Key West is also the former home of Ernest Hemingway, whose Spanish colonial house is now a museum dedicated to the celebrated American writer.

The 6 best 2023 cruise itineraries to book right now

Ashley Kosciolek

How does a cruise to Arabia sound? Or what about the longest U.S. river cruise ever to set sail? With ships traveling all over the globe, it can be difficult to choose the destination that's right for you, especially when there are so many bucket list-worthy options.

That's why I've rounded up some of 2023's most exciting itineraries. From interesting new routes to tried-and-true ones that now have new ships, this list will prime your sense of wanderlust for both far-flung destinations and places close to home as we head into the new year. Prepare to be inspired.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Japan on Ponant's Le Soleal

5 night caribbean cruise november 2023

After nearly three years of shutdowns and restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan finally reopened to travelers in November 2022. That includes cruise passengers, and several lines — including Holland America Line and Celebrity Cruises (which is offering special "Spice Route" voyages that include Japan) — are returning.

However, the most exciting Japan itineraries I've spotted for 2023 are a couple of routes offered by Ponant 's Le Soleal. Not only is the line the first expedition ship to take passengers to Japan's southern islands, but its itineraries are also Japan-focused routes that don't include other countries like the ones offered by Holland America and Celebrity.

Details: The first route is an eight-day voyage, March 24-31, 2023, offering visits to traditional villages of the Okinawa archipelago and the Ryukyu Islands, as well as Ishigaki and Kume. Prices start at $6,000 per person for an ocean-view cabin.

The second route is an eight-day sailing from Osaka to Fukuoka, May 15-22, 2023, taking passengers to stops in the Seto Inland Sea, the oldest sea route in Japan. Fares start from $7,310 per person for an ocean-view room. More information on Ponant's Asia voyages can be found on the line's website .

West Africa on Hurtigruten's Spitsbergen

5 night caribbean cruise november 2023

In a first for Hurtigruten , the line is offering a selection of sailings around the west coast of Africa, including the islands of Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau's Bissagos Islands, which are made up of more than 80 beachy islands and islets, only about 20 of which are populated year-round.

Cape Verde voyages are rare, making this ideal for anyone wishing to check the country off their bucket list. Plus, with Hurtigruten's rapid expansion beyond its traditional Norway offerings and into expedition cruising, you can be one of the first to try out this first-for-the-line itinerary, which will be available four times in late 2023 (and into early 2024), departing from Dakar, Senegal.

Details: These 13-day sailings on Hurtigruten's Spitsbergen depart from Dakar in November and December 2023 and January 2024. Prices start at $5,974 per person for an inside cabin. More information can be found on Hurtigruten Expeditions' website .

Ohio and Mississippi Rivers on American Queen Voyages' American Countess

5 night caribbean cruise november 2023

It's no secret that American Queen Voyages has been sailing U.S. rivers for years. But what makes this particular itinerary special is that it will be the line's longest ever. The 23-day cruises , which include travel on both the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, will be offered on the line's newest ship, the 245-passenger American Countess .

The vessel will feature stops in some of America's most notable small towns, including La Crosse, Wisconsin; Dubuque, Bettendorf and Burlington, Iowa; Hannibal, St. Louis, Kimmswick and Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Paducah, Henderson, Owensboro, Brandenburg, Louisville and Maysville, Kentucky; Madison, Indiana; Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and Cincinnati and Marietta, Ohio.

Details: The first voyage is set to begin in Red Wing, Minnesota (near Minneapolis), on July 24, 2023, and end in Pittsburgh on Aug. 15, 2023. The reverse itinerary will begin on Aug. 15, 2023, when the ship reaches Pittsburgh. Prices start from $10,599 per person for an inside cabin. You can find more details on the line's website .

The Middle East on Windstar's Star Legend

5 night caribbean cruise november 2023

If you're looking for a cruise destination that's a bit more far-flung, Windstar Cruises is offering Red Sea and Persian Gulf sailings in the Middle East — a first for the line, which will sail its newly stretched Star Legend in the region, beginning in fall 2023.

The line will offer four different itineraries, but my favorite is the 10-day Persian Gulf option from Dubai to Muscat, Oman, which includes calls on places like Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates and Khasab, Oman. The ship will also visit the UAE's island of Sir Bani Yas, which is known for nature and wildlife conservation. The sailings include overnights in Doha and Abu Dhabi, too.

Details: This itinerary is offered 11 times, beginning in November 2023 and running into early 2024. Fares start from $3,499 per person for ocean-view accommodations.

Caribbean and Bahamas on MSC Meraviglia and Carnival Venezia from NYC

5 night caribbean cruise november 2023

Although Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries aren't a new thing from New York, two cruise lines will have a new presence there starting in 2023: Carnival Cruise Line with Carnival Venezia, which will begin sailing from Manhattan in June, and MSC Cruises with MSC Meraviglia, which will be based at Brooklyn's Red Hook terminal beginning in April.

The itineraries are fairly standard at first glance, but what's key here is that, for the first time, the lines' private islands — in this case, Carnival's Half Moon Cay and MSC's Ocean Cay Marine Reserve — will be accessible via sailings traveling round-trip from New York.

Details: Between April and December 2023, MSC Meraviglia is offering 11 seven-night sailings calling on Port Canaveral (near Orlando), and Nassau and Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, both in the Bahamas. Prices start from $399 per person for an inside cabin. More info can be found on the MSC Cruises website .

From June through December, Carnival Venezia will sail one eight-day Bahamas voyage that includes Nassau, Freeport and Half Moon Cay, with prices starting from $484 per person for an inside cabin. During that time, the vessel is also scheduled to run five eight-day Eastern Caribbean cruises calling on Amber Cove, Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay, with fares starting at $684 per person for an inside cabin. For additional details, visit the Carnival website .

Australia/New Zealand on Disney Wonder and Virgin Voyages' Resilient Lady

5 night caribbean cruise november 2023

With Australia and New Zealand finally picking up steam again post-shutdown, it's not surprising that some cruise lines are sending ships to the region for the first time in 2023. Beginning in November, Disney Cruise Line 's Disney Wonder will sail 14 two- to six-night voyages from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne — calling on places like Hobart and Eden in Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; and Noumea, New Caledonia — through the end of the year, offering Disney fans another option in terms of destination.

Plus, starting in December 2023, Virgin Voyages ' brand-new Resilient Lady will offer five two- to 14-night sailings from Melbourne, providing locals with a more modern ship. (It's rare for the Australian market to see brand-new vessels.) Voyages include stops in Hobart, Burnie or both Tasmanian ports. On the two-week sailing, ports also include Sydney, as well as Picton, Napier, Tauranga and Auckland in New Zealand.

Details: Disney Wonder's per-person fares for inside cabins start at $946 for two nights, $1,604 for three nights, $2,000 for four nights, $2,118 for five nights and $4,078 for six nights. For more information, visit the Disney Cruise Line website .

Virgin Voyages' per-person prices for interior accommodations start from $245 for two nights, $613 for five nights, $753 for six nights and $2,240 for 14 nights. Check out the Virgin Voyages website for more details on these cruises.

Relax and enjoy the facilities and entertainment onboard your ship. If the weather is good take some sun and sunbathe on the pool deck. Otherwise explore below deck the wide range of activities that will be available during the day. Perhaps you prefer to find a quiet spot and catch up on your reading.

Cozumel

Although Cozumel is Mexico's largest Caribbean island (and its most populated), it wasn't until the 1960's that this once-sleepy fishing village became a tourist attraction in its own right, following a documentary in which Jacques Cousteau declared it one of the most beautiful areas in the world for scuba diving. These days, Cozumel is a major cruise port that welcomes more than 4 million cruise passengers each year and as many as eight ships per day. But even with all this progress, Cozumel has held onto its non-touristy side; only one-third of the island has been developed, leaving large stretches of pristine jungle and sandy beaches basically untouched. Yes, it's true: There's much more to Cozumel than duty-free shopping. (That being said, Cozumel offers darn good deals on jewelry, Mexican handicrafts, T-shirts and other souvenirs, mostly in the main town of San Miguel.) This small island, measuring just 28 miles long and 10 miles wide, lies off the coast of the country's Yucatan peninsula and offers incredibly diverse options for water sports-lovers, partly because of its proximity to spectacular coral reefs. Along with snorkeling, beach bumming and boating, scuba diving is one of the biggest draws to this sunny destination. Cozumel owns a rich history. In fact, the island derives its name from the Mayan civilization that settled there approximately 2,000 years ago. According to Mayan legend, Cozumel was the home of Ixchel, the goddess of love and fertility. It's said that when religious temples were dedicated to her, she sent her favorite bird -- the swallow -- as a sign of her gratitude. For this reason, the people called the island "Cuzamil" -- Mayan for "Land of the Swallows." Several important Mayan sites, such as San Gervasio and El Cedral, populate the island. Even better preserved ones are on the accessible mainland; Chichen Itza and Tulum are hot spots for daytrips and shore excursions.

Progreso

Located on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Progreso provides an entryway to some of the most well-known Mayan historical sites, including Chichen Itza (100 miles away) and Uxmal (71 miles). The region is also famed for its flamingos and there are more than 2,000 smaller and lesser-known Mayan sites here, too. Xcambo is only minutes away and a tour to Dzibilichaltun (16 miles away) includes a visit to a cenote (a watering hole) where you can swim. Progreso is sometimes double-billed as a port with Merida -- a colonial city about an hour south -- but it is also very much a town in its own right. It began life in 1871 and has continued to grow over the decades, particularly after its 4-mile-long pier (the longest in the country) was installed in 1989. It is not the bustling port that passengers will see throughout other parts of the Caribbean and Mexico, however. In fact, aside from the throngs of out-of-town vendors that converge when a cruise ship is in port once or twice a week, it can be pretty sleepy. And that's part of its charm. Progreso feels less touristy and more authentic than Cozumel, for example. The city center of Progreso is about 5 miles long by 10 blocks and encompasses the malecon ocean promenade. The town also has its own mercado (market), which is where locals shop for fresh produce as well as snacks. You'll find pop-up food stalls in this market dishing up everything from tacos to burritos to enchiladas; for a cheap, authentic taste of Progreso, this is where to come. And Progreso has a great, easy-to-reach beach -- a vast, clean, stretch of white sand on the Gulf of Mexico's so-called Costa Esmeralda. The town's more upmarket restaurants are on the long, beachfront malecon and some eateries spill over onto the sand itself. So, if you fancy lunch while dipping your toes in the ocean, this is the place to be. The town has a still-active lighthouse called Faro de Puerto Progreso; although the inside isn't accessible, the lighthouse makes a very useful, visible landmark for keeping one's bearings. A tour of Progreso won't take more than 45 minutes, so after that take your pick between shopping or la playa (the beach) -- or both.

Fun for all on the top deck of Carnival Breeze

Carnival Breeze has a light and lively Caribbean feel, with friendly and accommodating crew members. In fact, service is one of the ship's strongest points.

As befits a mega, self-titled "Fun Ship" catering to thousands, you'll find a nearly nonstop range of activities (from beanbag tossing to the notorious hairy chest competition), entertainment (30-minute song-and-dance shows, live music throughout the ship) and lots of chow-down options, from 24-hour handmade pizza to a Michelin-quality chef's table. You'll be lucky to get a seat at a $6 blackjack table in the smoky casino, which buzzes on sea nights. During the day, kids make a beeline for two scream-inducing water slides, mini-golf and an elevated ropes course.

The 3,690-passenger Breeze, which can pack in 4,724 when every bed is occupied, attracts everyone from young partiers to wedding groups, families and gay and hetero couples both young and old, and it often sails at capacity. This ship's passenger list is as diverse as the United States (90 percent of cruisers are from North America), but you probably won't rub shoulders with the country club set.

There's not much formality either: Passengers tend to be unpretentious, friendly and social. Infants crawl in the halls and cabin doors are decorated like school lockers. The dress code is one of the more lax at sea, though you can dress up if you like.

As you might have guessed, Carnival Breeze is not for those seeking serenity at sea. Prepare to stand in line at popular eateries, such as the Guy Fieri barbecue and burger joints. You'll hear babies crying, groups calling to each other and the late-night stumble of an overimbiber trying to find his stateroom.

Those who do need a break from the crowds can find it on the lesser-populated Lanai Deck or in some secluded front-of-ship deck space. Then again, why sign up for a Fun Ship if you're seeking tranquillity? Better get back to the Lido Deck now 'cause they're doing the electric slide.

Daytime: Dress is casual, mainly shorts and jeans and T-shirts.

Evening: On most nights, evening attire is casual -- a slightly dressier version of daywear with nice jeans and dress shorts acceptable. One or two nights are "elegant" nights in the dining room and steakhouse. Women will be fine packing dressy tops and pants or short dresses; men should bring collared shirts and slacks. Daytime dress is always acceptable in the buffet at dinner.

Not permitted: Cutoff jeans, tank tops (for men), athletic shorts, flip-flops, baseball hats and swimwear are not permitted in the main dining room and steakhouse. (However, we've seen people break the rules and get away with it.)

Any prices mentioned are correct at the time of writing - subject to change.

SERENITY ADULT ONLY RETREAT - The world you'll find yourself in is one of complete peace, sea breezes and, of course, a nearby bar. Reconnect with your partner, finish that book, or do absolutely, blissfully, nothing at all in the Serenity Adult-Only Retr

Day & Night

  • Daytime activities include hairy chest contests, towel animal demos, trivia and bingo
  • Evenings are full of laughs and music with comedy shows, deck parties, karaoke and outdoor movies
  • Busy casino with a variety of table games, slot machines and tournaments
  • Free Carnival Hub app lets you check the daily schedule on your phone

Fun is Carnival's mantra. On sea days, expect events ranging from trivia and scavenger hunts to shopping talks, cooking and towel animal-making demos, bingo for cash prizes, Dr. Seuss Story Time, shuffleboard, Ping-Pong, art auctions, poolside dancing and the hilarious "Very Hairy Chest Contest."

A two-dozen seater Thrill Theater ($7.95 a show) shows 4D mini-movies that have your chairs rocking and water spraying while you watch. There's also a video arcade for spending money on sea days.

Evening entertainment includes nightly 30-minute Playlist Productions performances by the ship's singers and dancers, raucous audience-participation game shows (a la "The Newlywed Game"-style "Love & Marriage Show"), comedy shows (PG-rated earlier in the evening, moving toward X later), dancing in the Liquid Nightclub, deck parties and popular karaoke nights.

Outdoor movies on the Lido Deck, complete with popcorn, are screened twice nightly, with earlier showings geared toward kids.

Carnival Breeze Bars and Lounges

Drinking is a day and night pastime for many adult passengers, and sweet tropical concoctions and beer are popular. Watch for $3 "make any drink a double" days.

Highlights include:

Atrium Bar (Deck 3 ): This bar revs up at night when string trios play, Latin singers entertain, a DJ spins and theatre performers mingle (and dance) with fans. Mojitos are popular.

The Library Bar (Deck 4): A small, quiet space with books, the Library Bar has two self-service wine dispensers that pour a changing variety of vino in 2-, 4- and 6-ounce quantities.

RedFrog Pub (Deck 5): This replica of a British pub (with a Caribbean flair) -- serving up Carnival's exclusive ThirstyFrog Red and extra-fee bar snacks after 6 p.m. -- is a favourite gathering spot. There's a jukebox, patio-style seating and acoustic guitar music at night.

Piano Bar 88 (Deck 5): This bar is elbow-to-elbow when the pianist is taking requests and performing, or when a sing-along breaks out. Martinis are popular.

Liquid Nightclub (Deck 5): Styled like a mini-Vegas club, Liquid doesn't get going till after 11 p.m.

The Limelight Lounge (Deck 5): This lounge, with a stage and a bar, heats up on nights when there's karaoke or a Punchliner Comedy Club show.

BlueIguana Tequila Bar (Deck 10): The always-jumping poolside BlueIguana does a brisk business in tequila drinks, though you can find a few other options as well.

RedFrog Rum Bar (Deck 10): Another poolside staple, the RedFrog Rum Bar dispenses tropical creations, frozen drinks and ThirstyFrog Red beer.

SportsSquare Bar (Deck 12): In addition to adult beverages, this outpost by the basketball court does a brisk business in smoothies for the kids playing mini-golf. Unlike most other bars, it closes early, usually around 6 p.m.

Carnival Breeze Outside Recreation

  • Just two pools -- one with a movie screen -- but none are big enough for laps
  • Top-deck fun includes water park with slides, ropes course and mini-golf
  • Lower-deck Ocean Plaza has less crowded hot tubs and lounge chairs
  • Adults-only sun deck is kid-free but not necessarily quiet

Carnival Breeze has two pools, two water slides with kiddie splashing areas and a half-dozen hot tubs. Serious swimmers beware; no pool is big enough for real swimming or doing laps. There's no lifeguard at any of the pools, and infants in diapers and kids who are not toilet-trained are prohibited from entering the water.

The Beach Pool is the hub of daily activity that includes group dancing and concerts broadcast on the big screen. On sea days, it's hard to find an empty lounger. The aft Tides Pool is quieter, though its two hot tubs are popular.

Adults can escape to the free-to-use Serenity Deck, where you'll find cushioned loungers, basket-weave clamshell-shaped "cabanas" for two, two hot tubs and a lone hammock. However, the locale isn't exactly serene when riders are screaming on the nearby water slides.

Deck 5 is a good place to hide from the crowds, save for the smokers in the area outside the Ocean Plaza Bar on the left side of the ship. The deck offers loungers galore, two giant chessboards and four elevated hot tubs overlooking the sea.

The WaterWorks area features two curving water slides, the PowerDrencher (which dumps water on visitors) and shallow splash pools for little ones. For drier fun, the upper decks offer a suspended ropes course, Ping-Pong, a miniature golf course, basketball court and outdoor area with punching bags and exercise machines.

Carnival Breeze Services

  • Guest and shore excursion services
  • Library and card room
  • Photo gallery
  • Internet stations on three decks (find Carnival prices here)
  • Shops sell accessories and clothing, fine jewellery and watches, Carnival-branded items, toiletries, snacks and duty-free alcohol
  • DIY launderettes (quarters needed), with iron and ironing board for use free of charge
  • Medical centre
  • Conference centre
  • Large selection of body treatment, facial, medi-spa and salon services
  • Extra-fee thermal suite features heated ceramic loungers, a thalassotherapy pool and sauna (day and full-cruise passes available)
  • Full fitness centre with lots of Life Fitness equipment, as well as free weights

Carnival Breeze's Cloud 9 Spa is a nearly 23,000-square-foot sanctuary with 20 treatment rooms, including three for couples. The variety of treatments (about 100) is staggering, from reflexology to hot-stone massage, to scrubs, men's shaves, oxygen facials and more. Teeth whitening, acupuncture, anti-ageing facials, cellulite busters and wrinkle erasers are also on offer. Kids can spa here, too, with treatments like a father/son chill-out massage and the "Acne Attack" facial.

While the variety of services is excellent, we felt the rates were too high for this cruise line ($125 for the least expensive facial, $149 for the lowest-cost 50-minute deep-tissue massage).

The spa's centrepiece is the coed thalassotherapy pool and next-door thermal suite with steam rooms, sauna and heated mosaic-tiled chaise lounges. The venue is 18+, and if you're not in a spa cabin, you must pay a daily fee or buy a cruise-long pass to use this area. However, saunas in the locker rooms are free to use.

The fitness centre is located in the spa complex. It's a spacious area with floor-to-ceiling windows and packed with rows of Life Fitness equipment (treadmills, exercise bikes, rowing machines, weight benches and more). A few exercise classes are free, such as sunrise and evening stretch classes and "fab abs." You'll have to pay to take cycling, "Body Sculpt Boot Camp" and Pilates classes. Personal training is also available for a fee.

Outdoor exercise equipment (including stationary bicycles; machines to work hips, arms and abs; and punching bags), a basketball court and jogging track (a mile is eight laps) are located in the SportsSquare on Deck 12.

Seafood Shack - Imagine a New-England-style seaside spot where you can take it all in, enjoying a great meal complete with a side of ocean view.

Carnival Breeze Dining

  • 15 free and extra-fee dining options, representing American, Italian, Indian, Japanese and Mexican cuisines
  • Vegetarian options always available in the main dining rooms
  • Options for between-meal and late-night snacks
  • Room service includes free cold breakfast items, while the 24/7 menu includes a mix of free and extra-fee options

The core Breeze clientele tilts toward meat and potatoes and fried chicken, all of which are popular at the buffet and in the two main dining rooms. But foodies and vegetarians are considered, as well. The universally praised eats on the ship are found in the for-fee steakhouse and the free hamburger and pizza stands on the Lido Deck.

Blush and Sapphire Main Dining Rooms (Decks 3 and 4) Meals: Breakfast (B), Lunch (L), Dinner (D)

Carnival Breeze's main dining areas offer 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. assigned dinner seatings. Sapphire also hosts flexible dining where cruisers can arrive at any time starting at 5:45 p.m. Sapphire offers open-seating breakfast on port days, and on sea days, Blush serves lavish brunches with a bloody mary bar.

Most nights feature the multicourse and surprisingly international "American Table" menu, with dishes like smoked chicken quesadillas, Vietnamese spring rolls, flat iron steak and Carnival's signature gooey warm chocolate melting cake. Quality varies -- ask your waiter for recommendations. These nights have a casual vibe (no tablecloths, for example); Carnival ups the formality on "American Table" evenings.

The menu also offers "Rare Finds" (daring dishes like braised rabbit) and "Port of Call" choices to reflect regional cuisine. Order all the food you care to eat. Heart-healthy and vegetarian options are marked. A $20 surcharge is tacked onto filet mignon and lobster tail orders; there is just one free lobster night per cruise.

Wine is not overpriced, and the list includes California vintages from former Carnival spokeswoman Kathie Lee Gifford.

Dining room waiters are generally good at remembering names and preferences and often hop on counters (en masse) to sing and dance to upbeat pop songs.

The Lido Marketplace (Deck 10) Meals: B, L, D

The Lido Marketplace is the casual buffet restaurant, open from morning to night, with an afternoon break for most stations (often to the chagrin of late-returning tour participants). Breakfast offers typical hot and cold morning options, including made-to-order omelettes. Sandwiches, salad bar, a dessert bar and a changing menu of entrees are available at lunch and dinner. Themed areas include the Comfort Kitchen (mac 'n' cheese, chicken tenders), the Deli (great sandwiches and gluten-free options), French Chef and Mongolian Wok (choose veggies and meat for a custom stir-fry). There's also 24-hour soft-serve ice cream and frozen yoghurt machines.

On days at sea, the buffet complex feels like a big high school cafeteria at lunch hour, with long waits. At night, it's the place to go to avoid the dress code.

BlueIguana Cantina (Deck 10) Meals: B, L

At Carnival's version of Chipotle, you can build your own burrito or taco with meats, cheeses, peppers and beans. A salsa bar provides ample toppings. At breakfast, BlueIguana Cantina offers scrambled eggs, sausages and more wrapped into a burrito.

Guy's Burger Joint (Deck 10): Meals: L

Food Network star Guy Fieri's burger counter is very popular; it's open daily from noon to 6 p.m., but you'll wait if you come at peak hours. Order from the menu (including options made with bacon patties) or get a regular hamburger or cheeseburger and dress it up at the self-serve toppings bar. Don't miss the hand-cut fries. You can special order less well done or vegetarian patties.

Pizza Pirate (Deck 10) Meals: 24/7

This 24-hour stand bakes pies to order, so be prepared to wait for warm, thin-crusted pizzas that are melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Guy's Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse (Deck 5) Meals: L

Another Guy Fieri creation, Guy's Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse is the place to go for decadent barbecue and indulgent sides like mac 'n' cheese, coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad.

SeaDogs (Deck 12) Meals: L

This old-school hot dog cart appeals to the kid in all of us but is only open sporadically on the sports deck by the mini-golf course.

Room Service Meals: 24/7

Continental breakfast, basic sandwiches and desserts are complimentary. You'll pay extra for items like sushi, crispy chicken tenders and "authentic Philly cheesesteak," though all are $6 or less. Personal pan pizzas (not as good as the pies baked on deck) are $5. Delivery times vary.

Pricing was accurate at time of review, but may have changed since.

The Chef's Table (Deck 3); $75 Meals: D

The "it" place onboard for foodies, the Chef's Table features a set seven-course tasting menu in Breeze's giant galley. Here, the executive chef shows off cuisine you might expect at the world's costliest restaurants to an intimate group of 12. Cost includes wines. Reservations far in advance are essential, as The Chef's Table usually sells out.

Dr. Seuss Breakfast in the Sapphire Restaurant (Deck 3); $6 Meals: B

Ready for green eggs and ham? Or a colourful stack of hotcakes? Oh, yes, I am. The whimsical meal with costumed Seuss characters, including The Cat in the Hat, takes place at least once per cruise on a sea day.

Plaza Cafe (Deck 5); a la carte Meals: Snacks

Open from 7 a.m. to midnight daily, this is the ship's Starbucks. Grab a latte and a giant hunk of Black Forest cake (extra fees apply). Ice cream and spiked coffee drinks also are sold.

Bonsai Sushi (Deck 5); $2 to $22 Meals: D

This contemporary Japanese eatery serves up sushi and sashimi, as well as miso soup, bento boxes and sake. No reservations required. Bonsai Sushi is open 5 p.m. to midnight.

Fahrenheit 555 (Deck 5); $38 Meals: D

Book early for the most popular speciality dining venue on Carnival Breeze. This steakhouse is the place for meat- and seafood lovers, and those looking for date night in an intimate, dimly lit setting. Quality is better than similar items you'd find in the main dining rooms.

RedFrog Pub (Deck 5); a la carte, $3 to $4 Meals: D

In addition to its liquid libations, you'll find small-plate Caribbean-inspired pub grub after 6 p.m. at RedFrog Pub.

Cucina del Capitano (Deck 11); $15 for adults and $5 for kids Meals: L, D

This homey trattoria with red-checked tablecloths serves Italian favourites. During dinner at Cucina del Capitano, expect to be serenaded by singing, dancing servers. Reservations are suggested. At lunch, there's a free pasta bar.

Grand Suite

  • Room categories include: inside, oceanview, balcony, spa, suites
  • Most cabins sleep two to four people, while 20 rooms can fit up to five
  • 144 connecting rooms, perfect for families or groups travelling together
  • 35 wheelchair-accessible staterooms of various sizes
  • 54 suites offer limited perks and aren't notably swankier than standard rooms

Some might call Breeze's 1,845 cabins merely functional, though with contemporary touches. We found them well designed, comfortable and cosy, though sound did carry from the room next door. Storage space was generous but gets tight if you're packing four or five in a room. Suites offer more space, but are not as over-the-top and glamorous and come with fewer perks than you'd find on other lines.

Furnishings include twin beds that convert to a queen (a few inside rooms have bunk beds only), bedside tables with drawers, coffee table, desk/vanity, sofas (many of which convert to extra beds) and ample closets. Beds aren't hard or saggy and are dressed with cloud-soft white duvets. All cabins are outfitted with flat-screen TVs that swivel, hair dryer, safe, mini-bar, robes and slippers, and beach towels. Outlets fit U.S. plugs, with three-pronged options for laptops; none are located by the bed.

Most bathrooms have showers, glass shelves, makeup mirror and an easily missed razor outlet. The shower has soap and shampoo dispensers, as well as bar soap, though passengers in premium cabins and spa rooms get extra goodies. Some cabins have tubs and two bathrooms. Cabin tap water is OK to drink.

The 35 wheelchair-accessible staterooms come with roll-in showers, roll-up sinks and wider doorways.

Interior: Carnival Breeze's 719 interior cabins typically feature 185 square feet of space. Configurations vary. Some have bunk beds or a curtained window overlooking a walkway.

Oceanview: The size of the 221 ocean-view cabins ranges from 220 to 230 square feet. The more spacious ones have two baths: one tub/shower combo and one with shower.

Balcony: The 851 balcony cabins offer 45-square-foot balconies and 185 square feet inside. Most balconies have two mesh, metal-armed chairs and a small table.

"Cove" balcony cabins on Deck 2 (just 28 feet above the waterline) are the same size but have cutout holes under railings rather than glass. "Vista" balcony options are 245 to 260 square feet and are located in aft corners. They boast large 85- to 90-square-foot wraparound balconies with chairs and two chaises.

Spa Cabins: Seventy-eight spa cabins have the same furnishings as ocean view, balcony and Ocean Suite rooms but feature a different colour scheme. Extras include higher-quality towels, Elemis toiletries, priority access to spa appointments and free entry to Breeze's steam rooms, thalassotherapy mineral pool and exercise classes.

Suites: Carnival Breeze has 54 suites. Those who book suites get priority embarkation and debarkation.

Junior Suites: These 275-square-foot suites with 35-square-foot balconies have walk-in closets, 32-inch flat-screen TVs and a jetted tub and double sinks in the bathroom.

Ocean Suites: Ocean Suites are identical to Junior Suites but have a larger 65-square-foot balcony. Ocean Suite 7270 is wheelchair accessible and much larger.

Grand Suites: These 10 suites offer 345 square feet of space and 85-square-foot balconies. They're laid out similarly to Ocean Suites, but with a larger couch, bathroom and closet, and a TV stand dividing the sleeping and sitting areas.

Who goes on Carnival Cruise Line cruise ships?

Carnival Cruise Line sells itself as the "fun" cruise line, and it attracts cruisers who are looking to have a good time with little to no pretensions. Carnival cruisers, who range from young to old, tend to be quite friendly, looking to strike up conversations with other people in the buffet, by the pool and, really, anywhere. Carnival is also one of the most family-oriented lines in the industry, and you're bound to see lots of kids onboard, even during the school year. When school is out, you can expect the number of kids to be well into the hundreds. The line is also popular for family reunions, and bachelor and bachelorette parties. People on Carnival cruise ships hail primarily from the United States, mainly the south and Midwest, but you'll also meet folks from Canada, England and usually a handful of other European countries.

Do I have to dress up on a Carnival Cruise Line cruise?

Carnival cruises are casual, with shorts, tee shirts, capris, swimsuits or swim cover-ups de rigueur during the day (no bathing suites in the dining venues, however). Most nights the dress code remains much the same, minus the swimwear, though technically the cruise line asks that people not wear shorts into the main dining room. The policy is inconsistently upheld. On "elegant" nights, you'll see a range of clothing from ball gowns, dresses that leave little to the imagination, tuxes and suits to the same shorts and tees people sport all day long. Most men, however, opt for long trousers and collared shirts, while women don sundresses, or a skirt or trousers with a blouse. Men are not required to wear a suit jacket or tie in any venue.

Is everything free on Carnival Cruise Line cruises?

No. While Carnival is one of the more inclusive cruise lines when it comes to dining, you will still have to pay extra for some specialty dining, all drinks (alcoholic and non, except water, select juice at breakfast, and coffee and tea), shore excursions, visits to the spa and any retail purchases, including photos.

What are Carnival Cruise Line's most popular activities?

Aside from the main pool, which is the hub of much of the line's fun activities, almost every Carnival cruise ship also has at least one waterslide, with several having multi-slide water parks. Additionally, several have a top-deck SportSquare that features a colourful collection of outdoor amusements, including Ping-Pong, billiards, foosball, mini-golf, Twister and a SkyCourse ropes course. On the line's newest ships (Vista and Horizon), there's also the SkyRide, a recumbent bike attraction suspended 150 feet up in the air, requiring riders to pedal their way around an 800-foot track that wraps around the outer decks. Inside, you'll find activities that range from trivia and Bingo during the day to comedy shows and high-tech song-and-dance revues at night. Carnival ships also have lively bar nightlife, especially on ships with a RedFrog Pub; there's also an always-busy casino.

Great eye, but as a Vancouver fan you should recognize him immediately.  I heard his voice and knew he was behind me.  It’s so recognizable, at least to me. At the 7th inning stretch I acted calm and cool and introduced myself to him. I shook his hand and and said how nice it was to meet him.  Seemed like a decent guy, and you could hear him talking about the plays. After the game I found out that he has season tickets but we have yet to see him at a game.

I’ve gotten to chat with Nona a couple times. You might know her as Home Plate Lady.  She doesn’t flinch.

There is also a familiar person who sits behind home plate a few rows over.  See if you can find Geddy Lee, from Rush. Long hair and hat are two clues.

The last few cruises have been cooler weather, so I wore my heavier/more winter-appropriate outfits. This next one is going to be hot, so I tried on my lighter formal things. But I've lost a good amount of weight over the last 1.5 years, and they are all too big now!    I still have time to order something if I do it fast, but I'm not finding anything I like. Where do you ladies shop for cruise formalwear? I usually go for separates, and tops is what I need.

Dillard’s, Macys and Kohl’s. I also like to check them out online.

I like the designer Adrianna Pappell. I have bought a gown and a cocktail dress with her label at Macy’s. I did see some pretty maxi dresses online at Talbots. Wearing a maxi dress with pretty sandals and jewelry is good look on a warm weather cruise. Enjoy shopping! MJ 🙋🏻‍♀️

I also really like Adrianna Papell.

So. I’m home for the week. No babysitting.  it is obvious. I am catching up on my threads here on CC.

I have time to share how my husband is always prepared for anything.

So our satellite carrier has dropped a channel that we watch the news on at      10 pm as we get ready for bed.

So not wanted to mess the routine the spouse went and got the antenna. Circa 1960s—1970. And we are watching local news regular air TV.  Yes it is from the analog era working on digital tv era.  Good husband.

I know I mentioned I sell a chunk of my mangos to a guy that comes down every year. He bought some again and asked if I would have more. Mike said there were about 50 left so I told him I was going to keep the rest. Mike had been picking them since I had the contact dermatitis from the sap and wasn't picking them myself. Quess I should have gone out myself to look. 😵‍💫

They can be hard to see since they don't turn very yellow when they are ready to pick. Their green blends in with the tree. Needless to say I have peeled about 150+ and still have about 50 left. I'm so over it. That doesn't include the all ones the wind blew down (at least several hundred) which go straight in the trash. They bruise easily when they hit the ground and have a mushy spot. It is definitely getting a good trimming this year.

Fresh cut chunks of mango with no sugar or anything else added and ready to be dried.

Not pretty, but the end result tastes like candy. Plain dried mangos. The black is from the natural sugar carmelizing when they get too ripe. I prefer to dry them when they are just starting to turn a little yellow.

I would ask the RV company for the bedding info.

that screen is very sturdy. It can be used as counter space. Or. Resting stuff on it.  I am keeping the dish strain, sponge and Dawn soap underneath it when not in use. I will also probably cover it with those drop clothes to let dishes dry on.

16 minutes ago, Sunshine3601 said: I would ask the RV company for the bedding info.

Well that was the first thing I did.  They sent me to the RV resource person. and she says  “ I don’t know each RV is different.”

Then I was sent to the customer service and the girl goes “ I don’t know I just check out your order”.  She sent me to parts and the very friendly attendant goes “ I know nothing about linen, replacements I can help you with, but here’s a measure tape if that would help”

And that takes me back to no where.

So I went to Amazon camping linen. Not a bad price for linen.  Unfortunately they have nothing near what my measurements are for an RV  bedding.

I need to know how to measure.

And yes if you have followed me over the years; if it’s going to happen it will happen to me.  As we begin our future travels. I am writing a book.

Be safe.

I'm not an RVer...just an inquiring mind.  Have you ever used the Starlink system for internet while camping?  With YouTubeTV, it would seem to be a nice solution for television AND internet.  Although TV probably defeats part of the purpose of camping and 5G coverage is becoming more ubiquitous.

You would be surprised at the number of antennas and satellite receivers you see in a campground.  Camping is a far cry from the days when we would pack all our supplies and a Coleman tent in our boat, and take our kids camping and boating at Kinzua Lake in northern Pennsylvania.  It is now all about having the comforts of home when camping.

Great itinerary!  We really enjoyed Cartagena.   We are already doing a 13 night Southern Caribbean in January and doing a 5 night to Bermuda (overnight in Bermuda) next year.  Doug still has that darn job thing getting in the way of our cruising.

We did a great tour with “Dora the Explorer”. Check her out on TripAdvisor.  It was very good and informative.   I’d give the link to her site, but my internet is spotty at best here in the Northern Michigan woods.   😊 .  We did this similar itinerary on Serenade of the Seas in March 2020.

What I remember about Cartagena, was how hot it was.  We visited in April, the year we sailed.  I looked back at my notes, and it said the temperature was 83°, but it felt like 130° with the heat index.  It felt every bit that hot.

9 Best Culinary Cruises for the Most Delicious Trip You’ll Ever Take

The best culinary cruises to book in 2024.

F or many, food is the best part of travel—and I can relate. I've taken cruises all over the world, and they've led to many culinary firsts for me: My first-ever lobster was on a Caribbean cruise when I was just a teenager, my first bite of reindeer came in a cozy bowl of chili during an Alaskan cruise, and my first (and last!) time eating escargot happened on a cruise in the Mediterranean. While these dishes were all parts of the all-inclusive menus on my cruises, I decided to kick things up a notch on the foodie scale by hopping on board the growing trend of special culinary cruises, which feature food and wine in a variety of special ways. These days, you’ll find the best cruises partnering with celebrity chefs, featuring specialty-dining venues and offering excursions filled with meals you’ll dream about long after you return home.

"I helped start the first culinary-themed cruises in the early '90s when I began noticing interest, and today this concept is more popular than ever," says Executive Chef Rudi Sodamin, head of culinary arts on Princess Cruises and Master Chef for the Holland America Line. "Experiential food and beverage experiences are often some of our most popular activities on board. It is my goal to surprise and delight guests while also educating them and meeting their every gastronomical desire."

Getting hungry yet? We’ve rounded up the best themed cruises for every type of foodie—from seafood lovers and wine aficionados to fans of French, Italian and Spanish cuisine. I’ve been on my fair share of these cruises, including a recent one to the Mediterranean, and trust me when I say these trips may just become your favorites of all time .

Best for Napa Valley wine pairings

Princess 7-day pacific wine country cruise.

If you love Napa by land , you'll love it even more by sea, and it's now an experience you can have on any Princess Cruises ship sailing North American itineraries. In spring 2023, the cruise line partnered with Wagner Family Vineyards (the producers of Caymus wines), a leader in Napa Valley cabernet, for its five-course Caymus Vineyards Winemaker Dinner. Held two or three times per cruise, it features a dinner for up to 12 guests that could very well be the highlight of their entire vacation. On a recent sailing, which started in Vancouver, British Columbia, and wended its way through San Francisco and Los Angeles, the food was fresh and sophisticated—and tailored to guests’ dietary preferences as needed.

The Winemaker Dinner menu consisted of an amuse-bouche (beef carpaccio or marinated fresh oyster mushrooms), a first course (fresh summer black truffle risotto with 36-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano), main course (prime beef tenderloin with blossom artichokes or seared king salmon with giant prawn), cheese course and dessert (a beautiful chocolate raspberry creation). Oh, and each course was perfectly paired with the appropriate Wagner wine—including cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir and sparkling wine—hand-selected by Chuck Wagner, the owner and winemaker of Caymus Vineyards.

It takes a talented team to pull off an epic meal like that as well as the other offerings on board. "At Princess, we have such a diverse group of chefs, which is a huge benefit to us, as we are able to use their expertise to introduce authentic flavors from all over the world," says Sodamin. "I present food as art—to be created with passion and served with love."

  • The food is specifically crafted to complement the tasting notes of the wines.
  • Wagner Family Vineyard wines are available at all restaurants on the ship.
  • Some Princess Cruise itineraries offer memorable shore excursions to Sonoma wine country.
  • There's an additional cost of $140 per person for this experience and a slight upcharge for all Wagner wines at any meal on the ship.

Best for fresh seafood with a celebrity chef

Holland america line 7-day eastern caribbean cruise.

Fans of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto now have another way to experience his Japanese cuisine beyond his various restaurants around the world: on board the Nieuw Amsterdam . Holland America debuted Morimoto by Sea on Dec. 16, 2023, offering Asian-inspired dishes and beverages from Chef Morimoto, the cruise line's "Global Fresh Fish Ambassador." On this Caribbean cruise , you'll dine on appetizers such as sticky ribs, hamachi tacos, Morimoto fresh-tuna pizza and a sushi plate. Main courses include crispy fried whole-market fresh fish, angry lobster pad Thai, Japanese vegetable curry, and a surf-and-turf with wasabi-mayo lobster and grilled Wagyu kalbi. Watch for pop-up Morimoto by Sea events once per cruise on the fleet's other 10 ships too.

  • Holland America's new Global Fresh Fish Program offers more than 80 varieties of fresh fish sourced locally
  • The restaurant also highlights Chef Morimoto's exclusive alcoholic beverages, including a rosé and sake.
  • The menu includes vegetarian and vegan options.
  • There's a $55 coverage charge per person, plus an additional 18% gratuity.

Best for French food and wine

Uniworld boutique river cruises 8-day brilliant bordeaux cruise.

The France-based S.S. Bon Voyage is the perfect choice for food and wine–loving cruisers: This Uniworld river cruise is basically a floating boutique hotel designed to immerse guests in French culture and wine. The Southwest France itinerary features the country's beautiful landscapes, wines and culture in Fort Médoc, Cadillac, Blaye and Libourne. On board, head to La Cave des Vins, a specialty dining venue that features a communal table in a private dining room where guests will experience a cooking demonstration and culinary experience that captures the essence of France .

Additional onboard dining experiences include La Brasserie, serving traditional bistro fare, and Le Grand Fromage, offering menus reflective of the local cuisine and prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Excursions take guests into the Bordeaux region for activities such as a walking tour and wine tasting at Saint-Emilion; an artisanal wine tasting at Château de Cazeneuve; and a bike ride tour through the lush Médoc vineyards.

  • You'll get to explore one region (along with its food and wine) more deeply, rather than visiting multiple countries.
  • The ship holds only 124 guests, for an incredibly intimate experience.
  • Six days of excursions are included—and all are hosted by English-speaking local experts.
  • It has a higher price point, but it's the most all-inclusive cruise line. (It includes premium spirits and wine, gratuities, wellness classes, airport transfers, Wi-Fi, entertainment, and bicycles and Nordic walking sticks for onshore use.)

Best for local foodie experiences

Windstar cuisines and cultures of spain, portugal and france cruise.

Windstar is the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation (JBF), the nonprofit culinary arts organization that celebrates, supports and elevates the people behind America's food culture. The Foundation firmly aligns with Windstar's commitment to fresh and local epicurean experiences around the world, as well as efforts to reduce food waste. Join Chef Tanya Holland—this Top Chef Season 15 contestant is known for her inventive take on soul food and was the host and soul food expert on Food Network's Melting Pot—on a 10-day cruise focused on the cuisine and cultures of Spain , Portugal and France. Windstar culinary cruises include a chef-hosted dinner with wine pairing, two cooking demonstrations (with recipes you'll take home!) and a market tour with the chef.

  • Foodie-focused excursions include a river cruise with wine tasting in Porto, a vineyards and cellars tour in Bordeaux, and an oyster tasting in Cancale.
  • Windstar offers other world-class meals on board, with nightly menus crafted to highlight the regional cuisine and inspired wine pairings.
  • The newly remodeled Star Legend carries only 312 guests, and all cabins are suites.
  • This cruise has a higher price point than some of the others.

Best for satisfying any appetite

Royal caribbean icon of the seas cruises.

Can you even imagine a single ship holding 40 different dining and drink venues? That's just one of the many impressive things that the world's largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas , has to offer. No matter what flavors you're craving—we're talking pizza by the slice, sushi, caviar, oysters, burgers and tacos—you can find it on board.

Royal Caribbean is introducing several firsts on this ship, including the Empire Supper Club, an eight-course journey of traditional American fare (think: Wagyu New York strip steak topped with fresh-shaved truffle) that's perfectly paired with live jazz music. Other newcomers are the AquaDome Market, the line's first food hall with five dining options; a milkshake bar called Desserted; and the Celebration Table, a private 12-seat dining experience with family-style service perfect for commemorating a milestone. In the evenings, grab a cocktail at Dueling Pianos (a first of its kind in the fleet, with battling baby grands), a glass of prosecco at the new walk-up champagne bar Bubbles or a pint at English pub Point & Feather.

  • This ship sails the Eastern and Western Caribbean, so some excursions will offer rum tastings, Caribbean food tours and lunches the local way.
  • Each cruise stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay, the cruise line's private island, which offers a slew of restaurants (most of which are complimentary) and bars (if you've purchased a specialty beverage package for your cruise, it will apply here too).
  • You'll also find Royal Caribbean restaurant staples on board, including Sorrento's Pizza, Sprinkles ice cream, Chops Grille and Giovanni's Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar.
  • You'll have to pay extra for certain dining venues, as well as all alcoholic drinks and specialty coffees.
  • It's more expensive than most Royal Caribbean cruises because it's a brand-new ship.

Best for sushi with a celebrity chef

Crystal 14-night cruise from athens to rome.

Crystal is already known for its high-end and award-winning culinary experiences—and now it's brought one of the most legendary chefs in the world on board. Behold Umi Uma, a restaurant created by Master Chef Nobuyuki (Nobu) Matsuhisa for Crystal's Serenity and Symphony ships. This innovative Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine features delectable dishes like a crispy rice cake with spicy tuna tartare, Nobu-style lobster tacos, grilled Australian Wagyu beef fillet steak and Nobu-style black cod. Or choose the Sushi with Connoisseur, which features various sushi, sashimi and rolls.

Certain itineraries—for instance, the Athens to Rome Mediterranean cruise —make foodie excursions a priority, with a tasty street food tour of Izmir, a cooking class in Mykonos, olive oil tastings in Crete, a pizza tasting in Naples and wine tastings in Turkey. Between the onboard offerings and seaside activities, this is truly one of the most well-rounded culinary cruises.

  • Two complimentary reservations for two people on voyages 12 to 22 days in length, and unlimited free visits for guests staying in Crystal Penthouse or Junior Crystal Penthouse Suites.
  • There are 11 distinct dining options on board, including 24-hour in-suite dining service.
  • There's nearly one staff member per guest, and the crew will know you by name.
  • Reservations above the complimentary allotment are $50 per person.
  • It has a higher price point than some other cruises on this list.

Best for Mediterranean excursions

Viking iconic western mediterranean cruise.

Some people take cruises for the at-sea experience; others use it as a mode of transportation to get where they want to go. While every minute on board a Viking ship is spectacular, the real magic happens off the ship on this Western Mediterranean itinerary through Spain, France, Monaco and Italy. Because the Viking Saturn is a small ship (930 guests), it can dock overnight in some ports, which means you can enjoy authentic dinners and nightcaps in town.

On this particular cruise, you'll have that experience in Barcelona (paella and a flamenco show, anyone?) and again in Florence (you're in the famous Tuscan wine region, so have a glass or two of Chianti with your pasta). Shore excursions include cooking in a Tuscan castle, dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant, food and wine trails through Tuscany, and "The Kitchen Table," where you'll join the ship's executive chef for a tour and shopping experience through the local market (you'll gather the ingredients that the chef will prepare for you back on board).

  • Beer, wine and soft drinks are included with lunch and dinner; plus, you have access to complimentary 24/7 room service.
  • Onboard dining options include regional cuisine and locally sourced ingredients, as well as food-and-wine pairings at The Chef's Table specialty restaurant.
  • You get one complimentary shore excursion in every port of call.
  • It's pricey, but a lot is included in the rate.

Best for Michelin-starred dining

Celebrity 7-night spain, france and italy cruise.

Great meals and wine are a part of any Celebrity sailing—it was voted best cruise line for food and dining by Cruiseline's Member Choice Awards in 2022 and holds an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for 2023. Each ship has myriad complimentary dining venues inspired by global and regional flavors, alongside specialty restaurants ranging from seafood and oyster bars to Paris-style bistros. And at the helm sits Celebrity's Global Culinary Ambassador, Chef Daniel Boulud, who holds many culinary accolades from the James Beard Foundation, as well as multiple Michelin stars.

His onboard restaurant, Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud, features a menu that gives guests a taste of the places that have inspired him around the world, such as 5-Spice Duck Pithivier, Brazilian Moqueca and Risotto au Homard. Calling all plant-based diners who love to cruise: A new vegan menu is currently available on Carnival Freedom in Port Canaveral, Florida, and Car nival Horizon in Port Miami—and will soon be implemented fleet-wide in a phased approach. Carnival chefs created recipes for each of their dishes to be prepared without the use of animal products, and the proteins included are made from meat substitutes. Look for tempting options such as Hawaiian Salmon Poke made with plant-based salmon, Spaghetti Carbonara with vegan bacon, Grilled Tofu Steak, and Eggplant Cutlet a la Parmigiana. For dessert, try the Cappuccino Pot de Crème or Key Lime Velvet Cake. Off the ship, the Caribbean is no stranger to plant-based foods, from rice and beans to perfectly ripe tropical fruits, so you'll have plenty of options there too.
