The Met 360° Project

This award-winning series of six short videos invites viewers around the world to virtually visit The Met's art and architecture in a fresh, immersive way. Created using spherical 360° technology, it allows viewers to explore some of the Museum's iconic spaces as never before.

Viewed more than 11 million times, this series affords an access and a perspective typically unavailable to the public. Viewers can experience the magic of standing in an empty gallery after-hours, witnessing a bustling space in time-lapse, or floating high above The Met Cloisters for a bird's-eye view. We strung cables, removed protective covers from works of art, and rigged cameras up high, all to allow viewers to explore The Met as never before.

Get a behind-the-scenes look at how we created the videos in a Digital Underground article written by Director/Producer Nina Diamond.

You may view these videos on YouTube on multiple devices:

  • On your smartphone: Move your phone up, down, and behind you to see all directions.
  • On your desktop computer: Use the mouse to scroll in all directions. (Note: For an optimal user experience, use Chrome or Firefox as your browser.)
  • On Google Cardboard or a VR headset

Be sure to turn up the volume to hear the music, too.

Architect Richard Morris Hunt designed this majestic space in 1902. He never could have imagined that today the Museum's main entry greets more than six million visitors a year. Now you can experience its Neoclassical grandeur in a way no one ever has before.

Come explore not just behind the scenes, but everywhere in 360°. This video lets you soar past the colonnades, up toward the oculus in the ceiling, and cast a look down over the Grand Staircase and balcony. Aren't you curious who creates those colossal flower arrangements when you're still asleep?

The Met Cloisters

Take to the sky to explore the majestic vistas of The Met Cloisters. This branch of the Museum in northern Manhattan’s Fort Tryon Park is dedicated to the art, architecture, and gardens of medieval Europe.

Explore 360° views over the city, across the Hudson River, and high above two richly landscaped gardens. Inside, spin around to admire the medieval cloisters that form the core of the historic building, and listen to the resonant chimes from the bell tower, more than 100 feet above ground.

The Temple of Dendur

Immerse yourself in this 360° video capturing dawn to dusk in the Temple of Dendur. Built around 15 B.C. when the Roman Emperor Augustus ruled Egypt, the temple was a 1968 gift from Egypt to the United States in recognition of support given to save its monuments threatened by the Nile.

The temple's setting in The Sackler Wing was designed to approximate the light and surroundings of its original location in Nubia, including a reflecting pool that evokes the Nile.

The Met Breuer

On March 18, 2016, The Metropolitan Museum of Art opened The Met Breuer, its new space was dedicated to modern and contemporary art.

Whether you're a recent or longtime fan of the building's classic modernist design, or have just been struck by its bold form at Madison Avenue and 75th Street–here's your chance to enjoy a 360° perspective on architect Marcel Breuer's landmark 1966 creation. Scan up the jagged facade to the trapezoidal window with clouds above, or hover inside the entrance lobby over the sunken garden courtyard.

After four years, the Museum has now permanently closed its Breuer location. The Frick Collection will take over the building during the upgrade and renovation of its museum space at 1 East 70th Street.

The Charles Engelhard Court

Come explore the crown jewel of The Met's American Wing in spherical 360° video. Float in mid-air among the sculptures, including cheek-to-cheek with the gilded sculpture of Diana on its tall pedestal. Try tipping your view over the upper balcony's edge to witness the crowd below in time-lapse—all using your mouse, track pad, or smartphone. You can even peek at the easels of two artists at work.

Flanked by stunning Tiffany stained-glass windows, The Charles Engelhard Court in The American Wing houses some of the Museum's most iconic sculptures, mosaics, and architectural elements.

Arms and Armor Galleries

Visit The Met's distinguished collection of arms and armor from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and America. Experience the galleries from above and take a closer look at some of the key objects of sculptural and ornamental beauty—all in 360. This may be the only time you’ll ever get to stand in the middle of a parade of armored soldiers on horseback. No matter where you turn—from the flags overhead to the weapons gleaming below—you'll find unprecedented access to these masterpieces of original design and traditional craftsmanship.

Why we love it:

  • A 45-minute stop by Zuccotti Park for lunch offers visitors the chance to eat at Gansevoort Liberty Market, outdoor food carts, Eataly and more, just like countless New Yorkers downtown.
  • The drive up Broadway, and down Fifth Avenue offers visitors a taste of several neighborhoods they may want to return to (think: West Village and Chinatown). Guides are happy to recommend how to return to these areas and share personal recommendations for shopping, dining and low-priced tickets.
  • There’s never a boring moment – each block has a story about a synagogue, a celebrity, a changemaker or other notable figures in New York history. The comprehensive overview takes visitors from 1600s New Amsterdam to 2024’s Tony Award contenders.

Neil Young is hitting pause on his “Love Earth” tour.

On Wednesday, the 78-year-old musician and his band Crazy Horse announced that they will be taking an “unplanned break” due to illness among various band members.

“The Love Earth Tour has been a great experience for us so far,” Young wrote in a message posted to his website. “GREAT AUDIENCES AND MUSIC. WE HAVE HAD A BLAST!”

“When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop,” he continued. “We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break. We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again! We know many of you made travel plans and we apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience. Health is # 1.”

“We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you…. and for us,” the message concluded. “With love and thanks to all of you from Crazy Horse….. Neil, Micah, Ralph and Billy Love Earth.”

Fans took to social media to share their disappointment and express concern.

“Neil canceling the rest of his tour is a bummer,” one follower posted on X. “Hope everyone is better sooner than later.”

“S—. Feeling grateful to have caught that Pine Knob show,” another wrote. “Hope everything is okay.”

This isn’t the first tour cancellation fans have witnessed this summer.

Last week, country music star Mark Chesnutt announced the cancellation of his tour as he recovers from emergency quadruple bypass surgery.

“Mark Chesnutt, one of the most signatured country music voices of the 90s and a honky tonk mainstay for more than three decades, experienced a heart health issue over the weekend that hospitalized him Sunday evening, June 16; Mark underwent emergency quadruple bypass surgery,” his team wrote on Instagram.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel had some sweet and sour fun backstage during the New York City leg of his  Forget Tomorrow tour. The couple joined Timberlake's touring crew members to taste tested a selection of Swedish gummy candies.

In his latest videos shared to Instagram , Timberlake, who performed at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday and Wednesday, offers his take on a collection of candy from BonBon New York City. Clad in all-black athleisure gear, he is initially less than impressed with his first treat and ranks it six out of 10. Later, he comes back for round two and happily acknowledges, "Oh, that's good."

"I like that a lot better than the first one," he adds, nodding enthusiastically. In the end, he gives the sweet a 9.5 rating.

He cheekily adds, "It tastes like strawberry bubblegum," offering a subtle wink to his 2013 The 20/20 Experience song, "Strawberry Bubblegum."

In another video , Biel is taken aback when she tries a sour candy, declaring, "Holy s**t."

"It's so good, it's just super sour," she explains, collecting herself.

She eventually offers a glowing "eight or nine" review, throwing two thumbs up and saying "Yum!"

"Hope this makes the world tour extra sweet!!!! 🍬🤸🏽‍♀️" the candy brand commented on one video .

Biel was seen  jamming out in the audience during Timberlake's show on Tuesday, and was joined by one of the couple's sons.

A source recently told ET that the 42-year-old actress has been a pillar of support for her husband in the wake of his legal troubles.

"Jess is definitely feeling disappointed, but she is by Justin’s side," the source said "She acknowledges that Justin, and all of us, are all human and make mistakes."

Timerlake's NYC shows come  one week after he was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York , and charged with driving while intoxicated . A Sag Harbor police officer observed him driving a 2025 gray BMW and failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign and stay in his lane. The officer also reportedly said Timberlake told him the arrest would "ruin the tour." When the officer asked what tour he was referring tour, the singer reportedly replied, "the world tour."

"A traffic stop was initiated by a Police Officer from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and upon investigation it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition," a statement from the police department read. "Upon contact with [Timberlake] it was ascertained that [he] was operating said vehicle in intoxicated conditions, in that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests."

Timberlake told police he had "one martini" before getting behind the wheel, which was later  corroborated by the bartender  who served him.

"Justin is feeling remorseful, ashamed, and humiliated, but also accountable,"  a source told ET  following Timberlake's arrest, adding that the singer "does not believe he needs help when it comes to alcohol," instead viewing the incident as a "major lapse of judgement."

The pop star has spoken out about the incident only once, addressing it at his Chicago, Illinois, tour stop on June 21.

"We've been together through ups and downs and lefts and rights and, uh, it's been a tough week," Timberlake  said in video shared on social media . "But you're here. I'm here ... I know sometimes I'm hard to love but you keep on loving me and I love you right back. Thank you so much."

In the middle of his remarks, Timberlake bowed down to the crowd after they gave him a roaring ovation. Following his comment, Timberlake appeared to wipe away tears before inviting the crowd for a singalong.

He is next scheduled to perform in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday and Sunday.

Pilgrim Deaths in Mecca Put Spotlight on Underbelly of Hajj Industry

More than 1,300 people died, and a Saudi official said most of them were not registered for the pilgrimage. That left them with little protection from the heat.

By Emad Mekay and Vivian Nereim

Emad Mekay reported from Cairo and Vivian Nereim from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

More than 1,300 people died making the Islamic pilgrimage of hajj in Saudi Arabia this month, the vast majority of whom the Saudi government said did not have permits. Many walked for miles in scorching heat after paying thousands of dollars to illicit or fraudulent tour operators.

While pilgrims with permits are transported around the holy city of Mecca in air-conditioned buses and rest in air-conditioned tents, unregistered ones are often exposed to the elements. In recent days, as temperatures surpassed 120 degrees, some pilgrims described watching people faint and passing bodies in the street.

On Sunday, in an interview on state television, the Saudi health minister, Fahd al-Jalajel, said that 83 percent of the 1,301 reported deaths involved pilgrims who lacked permits.

“The rise in temperatures during the hajj season represented a big challenge this year,” he said. “Unfortunately — and this is painful for all of us — those who didn’t have hajj permits walked long distances under the sun.”

Mr. al-Jalajel’s remarks came after days of silence from the Saudi government over the fatalities during the hajj, an arduous and deeply spiritual ritual that Muslims are encouraged to perform once in their lifetimes if they are physically and financially able.

With nearly two million participating each year, it is not unusual for pilgrims to die from heat stress, illness or chronic disease. It is unclear if the number of deaths this year was higher than usual, because Saudi Arabia does not regularly report those statistics. Last year, 774 pilgrims died from Indonesia alone, and in 1985, more than 1,700 people died around the holy sites, most of them from heat stress, a study at the time found.

An aerial view of a vast complex of tents.

But because so many of those who died had no permits, this year’s toll exposed an underbelly of tour operators and smugglers around the world who profit off Muslims desperate to make the journey.

The deaths also laid bare what appeared to be a wide-scale failure of Saudi immigration and security procedures aimed at preventing unregistered pilgrims from reaching the holy sites, including a security cordon around Mecca that locks down weeks before hajj.

Despite those efforts, an estimated 400,000 undocumented people tried to perform the pilgrimage this year, a senior Saudi official told Agence France-Presse, speaking on the condition of anonymity. The hajj has also been the scene of several catastrophes over the years, including a stampede in 2015 that killed more than 2,200 people .

Saudi officials did not respond to requests for comment.

In interviews with The New York Times, however, hajj tour operators, pilgrims and relatives of the dead described easily exploited loopholes that allow people to travel to the kingdom with a tourist or visitor visa ahead of hajj, usually assisted by tour operators in their home countries. Once they arrive, they find a network of illegal brokers and smugglers who offer their services and sometimes abandon them to fend for themselves, they said.

The number of unregistered pilgrims appears to have been driven up this year by rising economic desperation in countries like Egypt and Jordan. An official hajj package can cost more than $5,000 or $10,000, depending on a pilgrim’s country of origin — beyond the means of many hoping to make the trip.

Marwa, a 32-year-old Egyptian woman whose parents performed hajj without an official permit this year, said that they had paid around $2,000 for their journey, facilitated by an agent in Egypt and a broker in Saudi Arabia. They felt that they had to go soon because, as Egypt’s currency loses value , their savings shrink every year, she said. Marwa asked to be identified only by her first name to avoid legal repercussions.

Several countries with large numbers of deceased pilgrims have moved quickly to contain the fallout.

On Friday, the president of Tunisia, which counted more than 50 pilgrims among the dead, fired the country’s religious affairs minister. In Jordan, which recorded the deaths of at least 99 pilgrims, the public prosecutor opened an investigation into illegal hajj routes. And in Egypt, the authorities said that they would revoke the licenses of 16 companies that issued visas to pilgrims without providing adequate services.

“There’s so much greed around this business,” said Iman Ahmed, a co-owner of El-Iman Tours in Cairo.

Ms. Ahmed said that she refused to send unregistered pilgrims on hajj packages but that other Egyptian tour operators and Saudi brokers made big money doing so.

One unregistered pilgrim who died was Safaa al-Tawab, a grandmother from the Egyptian city of Luxor, according to her brother, Ahmed al-Tawab. Ms. al-Tawab, 55, had not been able to obtain a hajj permit but found an Egyptian tour company to take her for around $3,000, he said.

Ms. al-Tawab did not realize that she was violating the rules when she traveled to Saudi Arabia, her brother said, and after she arrived, she told relatives that she had been put in inadequate housing and prevented from going outside. While the tour operator had promised air-conditioned buses to take the pilgrims around Mecca, she instead found herself walking for miles in the heat, Mr. al-Tawab said.

Before the hajj, the Saudi authorities posted billboards and sent a barrage of text messages reminding people that it is illegal to perform the pilgrimage without a permit; violators face fines, deportation and bans on re-entering the kingdom.

Entry to Mecca was barred weeks before hajj for visitors without permits. Yet many pilgrims were able to evade the restrictions, arriving in Mecca early and hiding out, or paying smugglers to ferry them into the city.

One Jordanian pilgrim, who asked to be identified only as Um Abdulrahman, a nickname, because she feared repercussions, said that she encountered several smugglers to help her move around Mecca, including one who charged around $200 to drive her into the city over a rocky mountain route. But she ended up walking for hours in the sun without access to water or bathrooms, she said.

At one point, the police briefly detained her group, wrote down their names and left them in the middle of nowhere, she said. Um Abdulrahman, 49, said she knew her journey was illegal, but that she had not fully grasped the risks.

Even for the young and fit, the hajj is a physically challenging event, and many pilgrims are elderly or ailing by the time they can make the journey. Some believe that the hajj might be their final rite, and that dying in Mecca will confer great blessings.

The Saudi government deploys measures to reduce the effects of extreme heat, including spraying pilgrims with mists of water. One recent study estimated that the incidence of heat stroke at hajj had actually declined — although the researchers warned that could shift as worsening heat caused by climate change outpaces measures to mitigate it.

Abdulhalim Dahir, 31, a Kenyan pilgrim who made the hajj with his brother and father using official permits, said that his journey was smooth, with air-conditioned tents, air-conditioned buses and easy access to water.

“It was an amazing experience — once in a lifetime,” he said.

But even some who were in Mecca legally complained about inadequate facilities for the heat.

Makhdoom Ali, 36, a Pakistani computer engineer who traveled there with his 65-year-old mother, said he had seen several pilgrims collapse from heat exhaustion with no immediate assistance available.

“Many lives could have been saved with better government arrangements,” Mr. Ali said.

Mr. al-Jalajel, the health minister, said that one quarter of the health services provided during hajj were rendered to undocumented pilgrims. “We look at them as a pilgrim, regardless of their permit, race or nationality,” he said.

Among the dead were at least two Americans.

Isatu Wurie, 65, and Alieu Wurie, 71 — Maryland residents — had saved for years to make the pilgrimage, paying $23,000 to a local tour operator, said their daughter, Saida Wurie.

But after they arrived in Mecca, the operator told them to stay in their hotel until permits were issued for them, they told their daughter. Her parents were frustrated because they had believed they were going “by the book,” Ms. Wurie said.

They were still able to perform some of the initial rituals of hajj, and they were “so excited to see the Kaaba,” she said — the cubic structure that Muslims believe was the first house of worship.

The last message she received from her mother said that a bus to take them to one of the sites had not arrived, and that they had been walking for two hours instead.

Despite her frustration at the tour operator, as well as the difficulty of locating their bodies — buried in Mecca — Ms. Wurie believes her parents were filled with joy in their final days.

“They died doing exactly what they wanted to do,” she said. “They’ve always wanted to make it to hajj.”

Donna Kelce is one proud mom.

After her son Travis Kelce sent Swifties into a frenzy by appearing onstage at his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s sold-out Eras tour show on Sunday, Donna rushed to social media to share a clip of the surprise.

Taking to Facebook , the famed NFL mom, 71, reposted a video of the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s Eras tour debut.

Taylor Swift is joined on stage by Travis Kelce at the Eras tour.

“TRAVIS KELCE IS ON STAGE SOS,” the caption read, which was posted by fan account swiftiesforeternity.

In the video Donna shared with fans, the NFL star, 34, can be seen picking up the 14-time Grammy winner and carrying her across the stage at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Dressed in a black suit adorned with a pocket square with a matching top hat, Travis carried the “Fornight” singer — who was dressed in all white — to a red couch.

The pair’s outfit selection strikingly resembled a bride and groom — prompting screaming Swifites to descend into chaos.

Swift kicked off a 3-night run of her London performances on Friday — and Travis was spotted attending all three concerts.

The 3-time Super Bowl champ joined two of her backup dancers during the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” transition, fanning himself during the songwriter’s subsequent wardrobe change.

The 90,000-strong crowd cheered as the athlete picked his famous girlfriend up as she pretended to faint as part of the skit.

Kelce has supported Swift at all three of her London shows and was spotted alongside her parents, Andrea Swift and Scott Swift, earlier Sunday evening.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce posed for a selfie with Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.

Justin Timberlake Returns to Social Media After DWI Arrest: ‘This Is So Important’

Justin Timberlake Returns to Instagram for the 1st Time Since DWI Arrest

Justin Timberlake returned to Instagram for the first time since his DWI arrest to show off something special for his New York City fans.

“This is so important right now,” Timberlake, 43, said in a Tuesday, June 25, Instagram video , which featured a new Forget Tomorrow World Tour T-shirt in the New York Knicks’ signature blue and orange colors. “Let’s go. We’ve got your Knicks colors. We had to do it!”

He captioned the post, “Had to do it 👀 @nyknicks,” before reposting the video via his Instagram Story. The singer also shared a promotional video for the first of his two shows at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

“JT 🔥 MSG 🔥 SOLD OUT NIGHT 1,” MSG’s Instagram page captioned an animated video showing Timberlake levitating above the venue. (Timberlake will take the MSG stage again on Wednesday, June 26.)

Timberlake has carried on with his world tour after he was arrested on DWI-related charges in the Hamptons on June 17. The Sag Harbor Police Department revealed that the pop star was pulled over after skipping a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane, after which it was discovered he was driving while under the influence.

“Mr. Timberlake was placed under arrest, processed, and held overnight for morning arraignment. Mr. Timberlake was arraigned at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on June 18, 2024, at 9:30 AM where he was released on his own recognizance,” the police department’s statement noted.

Timberlake’s lawyer, Ed Burke , told Us Weekly on June 18 that the DWI charge “was a single count because he refused the breath test ,” adding, “Mr. Timberlake was also charged with two other court citations, running a stop sign and not traveling in the correct traffic lane.” A court date has been scheduled for July 26.

CNN later reported that Timberlake claimed to police that he only had one martini ahead of his arrest, despite his eyes appearing “bloodshot and glassy” and having a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” on his breath. A bartender at New York’s American Hotel confirmed that Timberlake only had a single beverage at the establishment, telling People on June 22, “If he was drinking more, it wasn’t here.”
