Who Are the Newly Promoted Teams in the Premier League for the 2024/25 Season?

This Premier League campaign will feature returning clubs Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton.

You know what August means, right? Yes, it’s the dog days of a long baseball summer. Sure, this year it’s the month where millions, if not billions, of sports fans nurse their Olympics hangover. But more than anything else, it means that the Premier League is back.

The titans of the English top flight are set to clash again, seeking to carve out campaigns to thrill their fans and maybe even earn some silverware. And as is the tradition, three new clubs will join the fray, having won promotion from the Championship.

That’s right, gone are Luton Town, Burnley, and Sheffield United, last season’s bottom feeders. Up with hopes of making the Premier League their long-term home are Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton.

Here’s what to know about the new kids on the block:

Leicester City

Established: 1884 Home ground: King Power Stadium Nickname: The Foxes

Leicester City starting XI during a minute applause ahead of the Pre-Season friendly match between RC Lens and Leicester City

Leicester are certainly no strangers to the Premier League, authoring arguably the most impressive underdog story in sports history when they won the league title in 2015-16, besting by at least 10 points heavy hitters like Arsenal and Manchester City. Sure, they were punching well above their weight, certainly in terms of financial resources. But in the years that followed, they were always a safe bet to turn in solid, mid-table performances, if not a bit better. But then the bottom dropped out in 2022/23, when they finished a squalid 18 th and were relegated to the Championship.

Still, they responded about as well as a team could. Under the guidance of new coach Enzo Maresca, Leicester finished atop England’s second division, ensuring their return ticket to the Prem.

Watch all the Premier League action on USA Network , Peacock , and the NBC Sports app. Check out the latest schedule , including where to watch.

However, they’ll have a bit of a different look this season. For one, Maresca is gone, having been poached by Chelsea to oversee the momentous challenge of returning them to true relevance. And Maresca took with him midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was a dynamo for Leicester last year, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 14 more, which earned him player of the season honors.

Steve Cooper, who steered Nottingham Forest into the Premier League in 2022 but was sacked by the club last December, will take the reins as manager. And they’ve welcomed in winger Abdul Fatawu, center back Caleb Okoli, and forward Bobby De Cordova-Reid, as well as teenage midfielders Michael Golding and Facundo Buonanotte, but only De Cordova-Reid has experience in the Premier League.

They do still have stalwart striker and club legend Jamie Vardy, but at 37, it’s fair to wonder how many goals are left in his right foot.

Ipswich Town

Established: 1878 Home ground: Portman Road Nickname(s): The Tractor Boys, The Blues

Jacques Feeney/Offside/Offside via Getty Images

If you’re a neutral fan with a soft spot for underdog stories, you’ll love Ipswich Town. It’s been 22 years since the Tractor Boys have been in the Premier League, with the club falling as low as League One (England’s third division) In fact, they won promotion in back-to-back years to make it to the Prem for this season, becoming only the fifth team in history to make the climb from League One to the Championship to the Premier League in consecutive years (Watford from 1997-99; Manchester City from 1998-2000; Norwich City from 2009-2011; and Southampton from 2010-2012).

Ipswich are led by Kieran McKenna, the promising young manager who had been linked to bigger jobs like Chelsea and Manchester City before committing his future to his current club, inking a four-year contract extension.

On the pitch, Ipswich are anchored in the midfield by captain Samy Morsy, the club’s player of the season last year, with Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin firing the attack. The duo were joint top scorers for the club last campaign with 13 goals each.

Omari Hutchinson, who came over from Chelsea last year on loan and had a stellar season, notching 10 goals, has made a permanent move to Ipswich, providing youth, potential and a proven record of being able to work within McKenna’s system. Joining him are new additions Jacob Greaves (center back), Liam Delap (forward), Conor Townsend (left back), Ben Johnson (right back), and Arijanet Muric (goalkeeper). They’ve also brought in midfielder Kalvin Johnson on loan from Manchester City.

Southampton

Established: 1885 Home ground: St. Mary’s Stadium Nickname(s): The Saints

Jack Stephens of Southampton during the pre-season friendly match between Southampton FC and Getafe

Much like Leicester City, Southampton spent one season in the Championship wilderness before earning their way back into the Premier League. The Saints had enjoyed 11 seasons in the top flight, finishing in the top half of the table four times, before crashing to the very bottom in 2022/23. Fortunately for their fans, they didn’t waste much time in booking their return trip, making the Championship Playoffs under new manager Russell Martin and emerging victorious over Leeds in the final.

Martin will be returning many of the club’s key players, including top scorer Adam Armstrong (24 goals in all competitions); defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis , who came over on a permanent move from Manchester City following a successful loan spell last year; as well as midfielder Flynn Downes, who was on loan from West Ham last season but made the move permanent over the summer.

Southampton did lose attacker Che Adams to Torino and midfielder Stuart Armstrong to Brentford. But Martin will be hoping the additions of forward Ben Brereton Díaz , as well as young defenders Ronnie Edwards and Nathan Wood will sufficiently bolster the squad.

And then there’s the return of Adam Lallana to the club that gave him his professional debut 18 years ago. Lallana, 37, joined Southampton’s academy as a 12-year-old in 2000, finally making his debut in August 2006, the first of 235 appearances for the Saints. He left for Liverpool in 2014, spending the next six seasons on Merseyside before moving to Brighton and Hove Albion, where he spent the last four years. But now he’s back, surely much to Southampton supporters’ delight.

Two rock legends are reuniting for a special tour paying tribute to The Band’s Robbie Robertson.

Guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench, both founding members of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, will lead the “Life is a Carnival: Last Waltz Tour ‘24.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will be joined by Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, and Don Was for a series of concerts celebrating the music of Robertson and “The Last Waltz.”

An all-star concert in Los Angeles next month will kick off a month-long “Last Waltz” tour that includes two Upstate New York shows on Nov. 14 at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady and Nov. 15 at the Kodak Center in Rochester.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. through atproctors.org (Schenectady) and Ticketmaster (Rochester).

Prices have not been announced, but a portion of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to local charities, according to the tour website .

It will be the first time that Campbell and Tench have toured together since Petty’s death in 2017. According to Rolling Stone , they have since played several one-off concerts together, including backing Bob Dylan at Farm Aid in 2023, but have repeatedly declined to reform the Heartbreakers with a different lead singer.

Other performers on the tour include Lukas Nelson ( Willie Nelson’s son ), John Medeski, Dave Malone, Terence Higgins, Cyril Neville, and Mark Mullins, though lineups may vary from city to city.

“The Last Waltz” was a 1976 farewell concert by The Band, featuring Robertson, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko, and Richard Manuel. The event was filmed by Martin Scorsese and included performances by special guests like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Dr. John and Ronnie Hawkins.

What's at stake in last week before Korn Ferry Tour Finals

Magnit Championship is last chance to move inside top 156, qualify for first Finals leg

Change Text Size

Last week, Danny Walker tied The Club at Indian Creek’s course record en route to a runner-up finish at the Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Woodhouse. It was a good time for his career-best Korn Ferry Tour finish – and first top-10 of the year.

And after a solid summertime stretch, Walker sits No. 31 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, a mere five points back of the magical No. 30.

Walker, with six top-20 results this season including four in his last six starts, has made a steady climb up the Points List at the most idyllic time of the season – with this week’s Magnit Championship marking the final event before the Korn Ferry Tour Finals.

The four-event Korn Ferry Tour Finals concludes the season-long points race, with 30 PGA TOUR cards awarded after the Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing and Finance.

There are reduced fields for each of the four Korn Ferry Tour Finals events (156, 144, 120, and 75 players), with eligibility into each tournament determined by the cumulative Points List entering that event.

Korn Ferry Tour Finals events in 2024 will not maintain alternate lists. This is a change from 2023, where the first three Finals events filled the field to 156, 144 and 120 players respectively.

The top 75 after the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, the third Finals leg, are guaranteed fully exempt Korn Ferry Tour membership in 2025, while those in the top 100 receive conditional Korn Ferry Tour status for next year.

There are plenty of scenarios left to unfold over the coming months with lots of players fighting for different things. But one thing is for sure – every shot matters.

Here are five players on various bubbles to monitor as we inch closer to the conclusion of the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour campaign.

DANNY WALKER – No. 31

Walker, who has put himself in prime position for a PGA TOUR thanks to a solid summertime run, is back in action this week in New Jersey after his second-place finish in Omaha. Walker finished 45th at Metedeconk National Golf Club last year. He’s only five points back of the No. 30 spot and will need to keep his stretch of good golf going if he wants to earn #TOURBound status.

BRADEN THORNBERRY – No. 69

Thornberry, the former NCAA champion, has had five top-25 finishes in 2024 but will need to turn things around after a bit of an up-and-down summertime. Thornberry made six straight cuts through May and June and notched all five of his top-25 results in that run. He’s missed four of his last five cuts, however, and with the No. 75 mark on the Points List getting closer, there’s never been a better time to play well.

He’s making his debut at Metedeconk National this week.

FRED BIONDI – No. 121

Another NCAA champ, Biondi has had a steep learning curve on the Korn Ferry Tour this summer. The University of Florida alum started his Korn Ferry Tour career with a bang, finishing tied for seventh at the season-opening Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay en route to making his first four cuts. But Biondi comes into the Magnit Championship having missed his last nine cuts.

He’s currently inside the mark to qualify for the first two Korn Ferry Tour Finals events, and close to the third, but the Brazil native will need to find his early-season form once again in order to move up and move on.

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT – No. 130

Lamprecht, the 2023 winner of The Amateur Championship and former No. 1-ranked amateur, has positioned himself for a potential run through the Korn Ferry Tour Finals in just seven tournaments. He finished tied for fifth at The Ascendant presented by Blue which has been the key result for him with respect to his spot on the Points List. The long-hitting Lamprecht certainly has the tools to play well over the next few weeks, but he’ll need to tap into some of his big-stage experience (having played the Masters earlier this year and winning low amateur at The Open Championship last year) to keep climbing the Points List.

JARED DU TOIT – No. 141

It’s been a gritty, if inconsistent, season for du Toit who started the year traveling the world and picking up starts on any global tour he could. He’s found a home on the Korn Ferry Tour through the summertime (after finishing tied for eighth in his first event of the year, the Astara Chile Classic presented by Scotiabank), but he hasn’t been able to convert the rest of this season’s opportunities into big results. He found the weekend at the Pinnacle Bank Championship thanks to a dramatic final-hole birdie (his first made cut in a month) to pad the points a little before this week’s event in New Jersey.

"We had the chance to tour with Meredith, she gave us a lot of insights of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn history. Venue was great and gospel wonderful, I highly recommend to everyone."

"Our tour guide was Matt and let me tell you how excellent of your guide he really is. He kept things entertaining and is very well spoken. Made sure to take and explain everything about the Brooklyn Bridge and about DUMBO. Such a great time and will definitely use again!!"

"This walking tour on the history of slavery in New York was such a worthwhile experience. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, enlightening, and a natural storyteller who got the material across without pulling any punches. It made the area we walked through come to life, and all three in our party were really glad we went."

If you're ever visiting NYC, I highly recommend taking Inside Out Tours' 'the Slavery and Underground Railroad Walking Tour' which is one of the tours featured in HOW THE WORD IS PASSED. I learned a ton and it was really well done.

The Black Joy Tour was outstanding. Our teen group was engaged and learned about the Harlem Renaissance, Jazz, the birth of Hip-Hop, The Great Migration, Weeksville, and more. This virtual tour was impressive. Our tour guide Stacy was extremely knowledgeable and knows her history! We will certainly return! Looking forward to an in-person tour soon!

"Our guide was excellent. He was very funny and the tour was very entertaining. We traveled with 3 teenagers and they enjoyed the tour. Highly recommended."

How to get Rolling Stones concert tickets: Prices and tour dates

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones are back on tour in 2024, and tickets are still available for those waiting to see the iconic rock band. The English band, founded in 1962, is heading through North America this year for their Hackney Diamonds Tour, celebrating the release of their latest album. We can show you how to get Rolling Stones concert tickets for all the upcoming dates on the 2024 tour.

Having performed over 2000 concerts worldwide over the past 62 years, The Rolling Stones' Hackney Diamonds Tour will take the group across 16 cities to play 19 shows. The 2024 tour kicks off in April in Houston, Texas, with over a dozen more shows following before their final bow of the concert series in Santa Clara, California.

Joining frontman Mick Jagger are fellow founding Rolling Stones member Keith Richards (guitar) and Ronnie Wood (guitar), the latter of whom became an official band member in 1976. The Rolling Stones have already confirmed that their timeless hits such as "Start Me Up," "Satisfaction," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Gimme Shelter" will be among the songs to expect on the Hackney Diamonds Tour's setlist.

We've got you covered if you want tickets to the classic rock band's 2024 tour. Here's our breakdown of The Rolling Stones' Hackney Diamonds Tour schedule, purchasing details, and original and resale ticket prices. Or, you can browse the available tickets left on StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

The Rolling Stones 2024 tour schedule

The first concert date of the Hackney Diamonds Tour is April 28, 2024, with the final date scheduled for July 17, 2024. In addition to 18 shows played in the United States, the Stones will perform one date in Canada. All concert times are listed in local time zones.

How to get tickets for The Rolling Stones 2024 concert tour

While tickets have been on sale since December 1, 2023, plenty of original and verified resale tickets remain from platforms like Ticketmaster. However, verified resale tickets are generally cheaper than original standard ticket prices.

Verified resale ticket vendors such as StubHub and Vivid Seats still have numerous tickets for The Rolling Stones available to purchase.

How much are Rolling Stones ticket prices?

Ticket prices for The Rolling Stones' Hackney Diamonds tour vary depending on date and location. For instance, the concert dates that are part of bigger events, such as Memorial Day Weekend shows and the Stones' Jazz Fest appearance, are generally more expensive.

Though tickets have been on sale for several months, the original ticket prices of many concert dates are still comparable to resale costs. However, resale ticket prices are generally less expensive, though the differences largely depend on location and demand.

On StubHub, the cheapest concert ticket prices for the Stones' 2024 tour dates range from $21 in Seattle to $185 in New Orleans. However, the latter is more expensive because the performance is part of the general admission price for the city's Jazz Festival. Meanwhile, Vivid Seats' least expensive ticket prices begin anywhere between $22 to $251 in the same cities. The cheapest resale ticket listings have decreased in price across the entirety of the tour over the past three months.

In January, the lowest price for a standard original ticket on Ticketmaster was $129 for the July 10 concert date in Los Angeles. On the other hand, the cheapest standard original ticket for the Santa Clara performance was $242.

VIP packages are also still available for The Rolling Stones' 2024 tour. The Hackney Diamonds Tour has the Start Me Up Package, Get Close Package, Jumpin' Jack Flash Package, Gimme Shelter Package, Paint It Black Package, and Tumbling Dice Package. For example, at the Seattle show on May 15, the VIP package prices on Ticketmaster begin at $899, $749, $449, $379, and $315 for the latter five packages, respectively.

Who is opening for The Rolling Stones' tour?

The Rolling Stones announced their opening acts just days before the start of their Hackney Diamonds Tour. They'll bring a variety of musicians to different dates throughout the tour. Among the scheduled openers are artists and bands like The Linda Lindas, Gary Clark Jr., Tyler Childers, KALEO, Lainey Wilson, and more.

Previous tours have seen artists such as Echo & the Bunnymen, Zac Brown Band, The Kooks, Cage the Elephant, and Ed Sheeran open for the rock band.

Will there be international tour dates?

The Rolling Stones have not confirmed an international leg for their 2024 concert series. So far, the only international show outside the United States will be in Vancouver, Canada, on July 5, and a one-off show in Germany on August 9.

While the tour is confined to North America for now, the Stones could announce an international expansion later.
