1 Week on Zakynthos (How to See The Best Bits in 7 Days or Less)

Off to Zakynthos this year? Wondering what to see, and how best to fit everything into a week?

You don’t necessarily need a week to see the Greek island of Zakynthos (also known as Zante ). However, most people are here for some beach time so I’ve worked that into my suggestions. If you’re really rushed you can see the highlights in 2-3 days.

Note that there is a public bus service on Zakynthos but routes are mainly between Zakynthos Town and various beach resorts, it’s not great for sightseeing. There aren’t that many places to stay in Zakynthos Town, so if you’re not going to hire a car then I recommend staying in Tsilivi so that you can take a few excursions with Nefis Travel (these are the best excursions on the island).

See Where to Stay on Zakynthos: Ultimate Beach Resort Guide for more accommodation options.

So 1 week on Zakynthos could look something like this:

  • Day 1 – Shipwreck Cove boat trip
  • Day 2 – Turtle Island boat/kayaking trip
  • Day 3 – Explore the Vasilikos Peninsula
  • Day 4 – Excursion to Kefalonia or Olympia
  • Day 5 – West Coast road trip
  • Day 6 – Zakynthos Town
  • Day 7 – Beach day on Alykes

SHIPWRECK COVE

Navagio Beach

The famous one, and the most popular tour on the island. Do yourself a favour and book this ahead of time because the best tour to Shipwreck Bay (proper name = Navagio Beach, also known as Smuggler’s Cove) is the VIP trip with Nefis Travel . It’s a small boat (25 seats) and it does book up in advance so get in there quick to avoid disappointment.

These guys take you on a small speedboat from the nearest point on land, rather than sailing up the coast. This speed advantage means you can set foot on the beach before the many many tour boats arrive.

The downside is that, depending on the time of year, the beach might still be in shadow at this time of the morning. It’s still spectacular, but worth keeping in mind if visiting mainly for the photos. The earlier in the year, the earlier the sun hits the beach.

There’s no shortage of boat trips so don’t worry if you haven’t booked ahead, but the standard trips feel a bit cattle-market.

The VIP trip also includes swimming stops at the Blue Caves and the unusual sulphur beach of Xigia (it’s a bit whiffy but apparently very good for your skin).

TURTLE ISLAND

aerial view of Turtle Island

This is the other main sight on Zakynthos that’s definitely worth seeing is Marathonisi, otherwise known as Turtle Island. The island itself is even in the shape of a turtle! It’s a small uninhabited islet in the bay of Laganas with an incredible beach on one side which is a popular nesting zone for the endangered Caretta Caretta turtle.

It’s part of the protected National Marine Park of Zakynthos but unfortunately, this also happens to be the most commercial part of the island and its protections are not well enforced. There are many operators and agencies selling various kinds of boat trips which unfortunately stress and harm the turtles.

The best way to see them (and the island) is on a kayaking trip with Sea Kayaking Zakynthos – this causes less stress to the turtles than boats with motors. The team also organise SUP, as well as trips to the Blue Caves and Keri Caves.

If kayaking is not an option for you then happily Nefis also have an eco-friendly turtle spotting boat excursion (I’m not sponsored by them, honest, but their ethos really stands out on an island full of dubious commercial operators). They work alongside ARCHELON – The Sea Turtle Protection Society to ensure the safety of the turtles, and there are two volunteer guides on hand to educate. It’s a half-day trip that includes snorkelling and the Keri Caves.

As your boat (or kayak) comes into Agios Sostis you might sail past Cameo Island, a small islet which is connected to the harbour by a wooden bridge. This very scenic little island is like something from Mamma Mia! (although it didn’t actually feature in the film). There’s a small pebble beach plus beach bar on Cameo Island for €5 entrance – but due to ongoing legal disputes/weddings/weather it’s not always open for visitors.

EXPLORE THE VASILIKOS PENINSULA

Gerekas beach

Personally, my favourite part of Zakynthos is the Vasilikos Peninsula which is just south of Zakynthos Town. The main reason most people visit Vasilikos is the beaches – it’s home to some of the best on the island. Hourly buses run down here from Zakyknthos Town via Argassi and stop at the most popular beaches.

The big one is Banana Beach – a huge expanse of golden sand perfect for sun worshippers and watersports hounds. Further along the peninsula, another key watersports spot is Agios Nikolaos, a scenic cove with a sandy beach. A special shuttle bus runs here from Laganas and some of the other big resorts.

On the southernmost tip is Gerekas beach (pictured above) – one of the main turtle nesting beaches on the island. Unlike Laganas where legal protections are routinely flouted, here the beach is manned by volunteers who stop tourists from getting too close to the nests (which are marked out by little cages). The beach isn’t built on and closes half an hour before sunset. Turtle fans (and who isn’t?) can also check out the Zakynthos Sea Turtle Rescue & Information Centre .

The Peninsula is full of sleepy roads winding through fields of olives and vines, with tempting beach bars and roadside tavernas. It’s a popular place to explore by quad, but you can also hire e-bikes in Zakynthos Town from Podilatadiko .

The best reason to rent a car on Zakynthos is to see the mountainous west coast (including that famous view of Shipwreck Bay) you will need to drive or take a bus excursion. The Back to the Roots minibus tour is the only excursion that includes a stop at the viewing platform for Shipwreck Bay however it’s a brief stop and you won’t have time to reach the better viewpoint further along. If you’re dead set on that photo then you’ll have to hire a car. But please be careful – several people have died trying to take the perfect selfie!

If you have wheels, it’s worth turning this into a day trip along the west coast. Make stops a Porto Vromi and Porto Limnionas beaches and the Cliffs of Keri. Some of the most beautiful and unspoilt coves are on the rugged west and north coasts – Porto Vromi and Porto Limnionas have rocky platforms with beach bars and toilets.

There’s a popular sunset viewpoint near Keri lighthouse with a great view of the Mizitres rock stacks. If you stay for sunset just be aware that you’ll be driving back through unlit roads.

BEACH DAY ON ALYKES

Porto Paradiso beach bar

For dedicating a whole day to the beach, the best place is the likeable beach resort Alykes. It’s one of the most northerly resorts and is the best sandy beach on Zakynthos. The sand here is powdery soft and a pretty ash-white colour. The beach is lined with laid-back beach bars (I liked Porto Paradiso ). It has the feel of somewhere much more tropical.

For those wanting to take a wander, the wider area is home to local villages and scenic beach bars near bathing spots ( Shoestring towards Ammoudi was another favourite).

And Alykes is a blissful spot for paddleboarding – sunrise sessions are available, as well as longer tours around the coast to Xigia .

ZAKYNTHOS TOWN

Zakynthos Town promenade

It has to be said that Zakynthos Town is not the most charming of Greek towns, its buildings were almost totally destroyed in the earthquake of 1953. Today it’s a working port town with a slightly scrappy feel and terrible traffic. However, it’s lively in the evenings and it’s also worth popping up to Kastro – the remnants of the Venetian Castle on the hills behind.

You don’t need the whole day to see Zakynthos Town though, it has a few small museums but is arguably at its best in the evening. Daytime can be a beach day. Zakynthos does have a small town beach but it’s better to head out of town to Kalamaki (pictured above) is the close to Zakynthos Town (and is much nicer than the Laganas end of the beach), it’s a short drive or accessible on the bus route. It’s another turtle nesting beach so in the central zone of the beach you might come across a cordoned off area with nests.

As the sun starts to go down, head towards Zakynthos and up to Kastro. The castle is surrounded by pines and is in the village of Bochali, where a few buildings survived the earthquake. It’s an atmospheric and spectacular spot to watch the sunset as the lights come on in Zakynthos Town below. Solomos Winery nearby offers tastings of local wines. Nefis also offer a

Back in Zakynthos Town seems to burst into life, particularly in its two main squares. There are lots of bars and restaurants – Italian, Greek, fast food, and gelaterias. If you need a good coffee the best in town is at Black Bean Espresso Bar .

If you’re interested in hearing the local Italian-influenced folk music tradition ( kantades ) then there are a few tavernas and restaurants which might interest you – namely Varkarola  and Alivizos .

EXTRA EXCURSION

There’s a spare day in the week for any extra excursions you’d like to make (or beaches that you’d like to sit on). The suggestions above cover all of the main highlights on Zakynthos. If there are any other boat trips or watersports that you’re dying to do then it’s best not leave them to the end of the week as they sometimes have to be rescheduled due to the weather conditions.

Other options on the island include:

  • ATV Tour of Zakynthos
  • North Zakynthos Jeep Tour
  • Cooking Class at Green Frog in Argassi
  • Cycle tour or birdwatching with EcoZante

But two of the most popular day trips leave the island:

  • North for a day to the neighbour island of Kefalonia
  • Over to the mainland to see the nearby ancient site of Olympia .

If you haven’t been to Kefalonia (and are not planning to) then I reckon it makes a great day trip from Zakynthos. The Nefis excursion visits the Melissani Blue Caves and Myrtos Beach which are two of the best sights on the island.

If you have a rental car then you can do this yourself using the ferry from Agios Nikolaos/Skinari on the northern tip of the island which sails over to Pessada on Kefalonia. This ferry isn’t suitable for foot passengers as it’s not connected on either end by public transport.

Zante Excursions

Nefis vip excursions, visitor reviews, more information, explore tsilivi.

My sister and I did 2 of Nefis VIP trips and highly recommend them. the 2 guides were so knowledgeable and entertaining. we hsd Mariska for the Blue Caves and Shipwreck Beach. we had Jackie for the Back to the Roots trip. She has a great singing voice by the way. We went this September and had wonderful weather for the trips. Well done Nefis for two very interesting tours. We didn't get bored for one moment.

My partner and I have visited Zakynthos many times. This year we did two tours with VIP Nefis the best ever tours Back to the Roots explained some the island history as all the other comments say Jackie is a brilliant guide Then we went to Kefalonia  and stopped at that magical taverna with swordfish heads in the trees. What a setting for lunch I do hope Takis has a chance to have some kefalonia meat pie, he deserves some for being such a good careful driver

Zante is a beautiful island and the best way i found to explore this island was to go on NEFIS TRAVEL V.I.P.TOURS.They have trips to the shipwreck, keri turtle spotting, and bus trip Back to the roots plus many more,The thing i liked best was that the trips only have small no of people on them so its more personal.Jackie Boots is an excellant tour guide, the amount of knowledge jackie knows about the island,is just unbelievable,Iwould recommend all the tours to anybody that would  like to see the island.Certanly a holiday to remember, thanks to jackie and here team.for such wonderful tours,Iwill definetly be going back to zante, going on NEFIS TRAVEL TOURS.

My partner and I went to Zakynthos for the first time last year. Internet research saw the name Nefis coming up a lot. We made contact with Jackie and booked our tour pre-arrival. Like the lady before we were in Kalamaki but this posed no problem for Jackie, she arranged for us to be picked up and meet the bus in Zakynthos town. We went on the back to roots tour. This is an absolute must for first timers to the Island. We learnt so much, Jackie's knowledge combined with interesting stories made it a very memorable day. The tour was superb and I would strongly recommend it to anyone. The concept of carrying the tour out on a small bus (15 people) was excellent too - much more personal One thing you will learn from Jackie is that this Island is called Zakynthos not Zante, unfortuantely most of the UK travel brochures  still list the Island as Zante.   Thank you Jackie and Nefis Travel for an outstanding day

We took two trips with Nefis travel while on holiday . Back to the roots was really good you get to visit all the real greek delights on the island the museum we visited was charming and the little taverna that we stopped at for lunch was lovely and so out of the way you would'nt no its there if they did'nt take you . well worth it . We also took the shipwreck tour which was also very good Jackie was so friendly and seemed tn know everything there was to know about the island .

I have to say I was definitely looking foreword to visiting the shipwreck when we went to tsilivi, Zante. We went with first choice, and on the welcome morning realised that their prices were a bit ott, and so went out looking at local touring companies. We found a few, price ranges were all about the same but most pushed for 'comfort' of the 100 plus cramped boats of luxury. When we came across Nefis travel they had a different view, small speed boat, our trip had only 14 people, it was very private and auxilerating. We were the first to the shipwreck that morning, actually got the boat into the tiny caves for some amazing pictures. The guide was very knowledgeable, being a Londoner but living in Zante for 22 years she really knew about the roots of the island. Had a beautiful time at the spa beach also and the meal we had at the end brought more beautiful views of the sea and the Greek tiramasu is definitely a must to try here! Their trip really made our holiday, thanks to all at Nefis for going out of their way to make our trip one to remember for a lifetime :) x

Jackie, thank you very much for your assistance and the tours through our wonderful Zakynthos! Thank you from your kind help throuhg email, while I was still in Brazil, in order to arrange the flights booking with Zakyta, your suggestions for accomodation and so on. We really enjoyed your VIP Back to the Roots through the Island, lots of historical information from Zakynthos, nature, fantastic food at that Taverna!!! The Beef Ragout was outstanding!!! Please thank that beloved lady once again for me! And congratulations also for being an adorable singer! We enjoyed your show!!! Let us know here in Brazil when you will record your cd!!! That first slow song you sang alone in the beggining keeps crossing my mind from time to time. Really beautiful! Can you tell me its name? The up view for the Navagio Beach (shipwreck) is breath taking!!! The most beautiful place I have ever been to. My Mom is also sending you her regards! You are the best!!! Ana Luiza, Brazil.

Frank and Carole  We visited our local Nefis Travel office where we met the irrepressibly amiable Bev.   She encouraged us to sign up for two VIP tours: the Back to Roots & Uptown Downtown.   The two tours served up a healthy dollop of the real Zakynthos experience.   Our charming and entertaining guide was the highly motivated and multilingual director of the tour company, Jackie Boots-Glavas.     Jackie worked hard to keep us entertained while we travelled, communicating primarily in English and courteously in her native language to the Dutch people on tour.   The first tour took us through several the mountain villages until we reached the Vertzago Country museum which charted over a century of everyday life on the island.   Next we stopped at a traditional market shop where Tasia and her mama offered a plethora of traditional crafts and confections for sale.   This is meant to be a 'breakfast' stop, but you are advised to eat your normal breakfast before setting out.   Admittedly the samplings are fresh and delicious and will leave you desiring more.   We then proceeded to the ancient chapel within the fortified Monastery of Saint George before grabbing a panoramic view of the famous Shipwreck Bay, where the vividly azure waters really do sparkle even when the sun is obscured by cloud.   The talented Jackie is truly becoming an island celebrity.   When she wasn't singing traditional Ionian kantades alongside our host after lunch in an old hideaway taverna in Giri, she was regaling us with local botanical lore, tales from ancient Greek mythology, historical snippets from Zakynthos' Byzantine and Venetian periods, and the island's pivotal role in the struggle for Greek nationhood.   After all our adventures, it was pleasant to relax in one of several terraced cafes overlooking the picturesque port of Keri with views of Turtle Island, before returning to our resorts.   The second tour is really just a local hop to nearby Zakynthos town.   Jackie first introduced us to a local beauty spot with exhilarating views called Lofos Strani, where the poet Solomos composed the verses that were later incorporated into the Greek national anthem.   We were then transported a couple of miles to the magnificent Church of Agios Dionysios to view the impressive icons, murals, iconostasis and the solid silver casket containing the island's patron saint.   All this culture can make you ravenous and so after a short stroll around Solomos and St Mark's Squares we stopped at a quaint taverna providing live Greek bouzouki music and singing while we ate.   Fully fed, watered and entertained we returned to our resorts by coach several hours later.   So impressed were we by the friendliness and efficiency of everyone at Nefis Travel, we booked further tours to see the Turtles, Olympia and Kefelonia with the same company all of which were highly enjoyable and undoubted highlights of our two week holiday in May 2011.

My Husband and I have experince 2 trips with Jackie and her team at Nefis Travel. we did the full day look for turtles and we had a amazing time this was in May 2010 and in May 09 went to the shipwreck and Blue Caves.   What Jackie and her team does know about Greek Mythology isn't worth knowing.    Sadly will will not be seeing you this year.   See you in 2012   Cath and Malcom

We, Dutch familly, two children 11 and 13 years old, dad, mum, and grandparents went on the VIP tour with Jackie last summer, August 2010. We have been to lovely places, away from the crowd so it makes you feel special. Also Jackie knows a lot about the history of the Isle. The children also loved it, Jackie also speaks German and Dutch so they had no problem when Jackie told the old Greek sagas. They still talk about it! We have really enjoyed the trip. Jackie takes you to a hidden taverna where you can eat real traditional meals under the grapeleaves and with a cool drink in your hand and life music as Jackie knows a lot of traditional songs wich she sings together with the owner of the taverna. Our favorite by far is the song Nefeli. We did'nt stayed in Tsilivi but in Agios Sostis. No problem for Jackie! She just pickes you up wherever you stay. Jackie you have opened our harts for beautiful Zante/Zakynthos! Thank you XXX

myself with my two young girls and two nieces did Jackie's VIP back to the roots tour with Nefis travel oct 2010, well what can I say? It was fantastic, Jackie you were great at giving us the insight to the Greek mathology and this impressed Sherridan my youngest as she is so passionate about history and the Greek Gods so to get an 8yr old listening was brill. We walked through small villages where Jackie was going into the history and then when we had lunch we stopped at a lovely small traverna where it was just our small group of 18, Jackie and the owner sang traditional Greek folk songs with the guitar which was so lovely and the food was great. If anyone goes to Tsilivi next year they should go to Nefis travel around the corner from Popeyes towards Tom and Johns and book her trips as you will have the most enjoyable trips and as they are not so many people it it more personal and she has time to talk to everyone. Jackie you were amazing with your knowledge of the Island and I really hope to see you in the next year or so to do Kefalonia. Nefis travel is simply the best!!! We also did the Uptown down town trip where we went into Zante town for the evening, we stopped at a stunning viewpoint over looking Tsilivi and then down into town to the church of St Dionesis where he lays in a silver casket with his body naturally perserved and this is how he has become a saint. The tarverna we had food in was lovely and again Jackie sang with the other Greek singers. This was lovely and the waiters were fab with the kids. A lovely evening. Thanks for making my return to the beautiful Island of Zante.xxx

Just returned from a week in Zakynthos (July 2010) and whilst we were there took a VIP Back to Roots tour. It was a fabulous day out, which takes you to off the beaten track to places where tourists would not normally go. From mountain villages to beautiful sandy beaches to the monastery and the oldest olive tree on the island and much more - with loads of stories of Greek mythology and history thrown in). As there were only 14 of us on this trip we felt we really were getting VIP treatment. I would highly recommend this trip (we went with a 12 year old who also had a great day - he especially enojoyed the traditional Greek breakfast). Thank you Jackie, you obviously love your job. Omar Apollo has a hit album, a movie premiering at Venice — and an itch to move home to Indiana

Portrait of Holly V. Hays

Over the course of just a few years, Omar Apollo went from Northern Indiana to walking the cream-colored carpet of the 2024 Met Gala .

Apollo, the 27-year-old pop singer/songwriter who recently released his sophomore album, " God Said No ," to widespread critical acclaim, was raised in Hobart, a Northwest Indiana town of fewer than 30,000 people.

"Being from Indiana, it definitely is an interesting polarity," he told IndyStar during a recent phone interview, reflecting on his meteoric rise from small-town roots. "It definitely was a weird culture shift, but I think I adapted really fast."

Milktooth and an Open Fire: Couple turns lockdown hobby into Indy’s hottest dinner series

He spoke to IndyStar about the success of the album and his upcoming tour of the same name, which launches its U.S. leg at Everwise Amphitheater in White River State Park on Aug. 20 . He also had a lot of (kind) things to say about growing up in Indiana, how it's affected him, and how he hopes to return.

Apollo got his start in the digital age, uploading his music to SoundCloud and Spotify and growing an audience there before finding success in more mainstream spaces. His 2022 single, " Evergreen (You Didn't Deserve Me At All) ," went viral on TikTok and later became a radio hit.

“What worked for me in 2017 or even 2022 isn’t gonna work now,” he said. “It’s constantly, constantly changing, and I think as long as you’re sensitive to the culture and what’s happening, (and) if you make good music, you can find your way to get your music heard and seen."

Despite the number of platforms artists can access, Apollo said one platform remains best for sharing music: the stage.

"I think playing shows, you’re automatically relevant, you’re already in the culture, because it’s happening that night," he said. "Even if you’re just opening up for somebody, I think real life connection is really where it starts."

A form of real life connection inspired "God Said No," a collection of 14 tracks about love, longing and heartbreak. (The title is derived from something a friend said to him during a breakup, he told Rolling Stone : “I gave it my everything,” Apollo said. “And God said ‘no.’”)

More Hoosier pop culture: 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow' brings Hawkins, Indiana, to Broadway this spring

“That’s a time capsule of that moment in time, that summer,” he said. “It’s just proof that there was love and that something so potent existed and was being written about and documented.”

Throughout the album, Apollo details his loss in beautiful, raw moments — "Dispose of Me" includes the couplet you're a gentleness my body just won't forget / you're a handprint on my heart I just can't possess — and despite the pain he felt, he's grateful the album is resonating.

“That makes me the happiest, the fact that people can find something medicinal within all the grief that I experienced, or that I’m able to express with words," he said. "I think that’s the only thing I can hope for coming out of the album."

On making his film debut alongside Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino's 'Queer'

Music isn’t Apollo’s only creative outlet.

It was announced last month that Apollo will make his acting debut in the upcoming Luca Guadagnino film, “Queer.” Based on William S. Burroughs’ 1985 novel of the same name, the film stars Daniel Craig — you’ll know him from the James Bond franchise — Jason Schwartzman (“Rushmore” and “Moonrise Kingdom”) and Drew Starkey (“Outer Banks”).

Details about Apollo’s role have yet to be announced, but the film is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival, which kicks off later this month.

Set in 1940s Mexico City, “Queer” touches on themes like sex and drug abuse, as the book’s protagonist falls for a younger, discharged Navy serviceman.

Apollo said he’d been a fan of Guadagnino for years, starting with 2017’s “Call Me By Your Name.”

“When I watched it, I was like, ‘Man, I would really love that,’” he said. “(Acting) was in my head, and it is crazy that it’s with him, someone that I really looked up to and I think is a genius and super talented.”

His 10-day shoot in Rome was “the coolest experience,” Apollo said: “I would do it again, for sure.”

More August Things To Do: 40+ Indy-area concerts and events to check out this month

On maintaining his Hoosier roots: 'I want to move back'

Despite his far-flung adventures — the God Said No Tour has already taken him to Australia, Indonesia and Japan — Apollo's eyes always turn back to Indiana.

"I want to move back," he said. "I feel like I will eventually just have a spot there."

People are more genuine in Indiana, he said. You can always trust that they're going to show up when they say they will. But more importantly, his people — family and friends — are in Indiana. A core friend group, plus 11 nieces and nephews. He draws inspiration from his family; the son of Mexican immigrants, Apollo recently launched Disha Hot , a hot sauce based on a generations-old family recipe. Promotions for the sauce feature his parents.

"I need to be closer to family," he said of his desire to return to Indiana. "My nephews and nieces are getting older and not knowing who I am, so it’s just kind of weird."

There's a lot to love about the Hoosier State, he said. Lovely sunsets, beautiful views, great weather and the experience of all four seasons. Oh, and: “We have Columbus, Indiana, which is gorgeous, which I think is very overlooked."

Apollo told IndyStar he plans to spend some time at home in Northwest Indiana before kicking off the tour, which currently has dates scheduled through October. He was looking forward to riding four wheelers, catching up with friends, maybe going to the Indiana Dunes.

"I think the benefit (of Indiana) is just the serenity," he said. "I mean there’s no one really bothering you, there’s no optics to worry about, there’s no cliques. You have your people, and that’s it."

Join our Sunset Champagne Cruise and feel your worries melt away as you enjoy the amazing panoramic views of Zakynthos , better known as Zante as well! The VIP trip starts in the late afternoon when you are collected by bus, to be transferred to the South of Zante. Upon arrival the relaxation begins as you board the cruise in the picturesque harbor of Agios Sostis and sail towards the setting sun, as the salty air flows freely through your hair. As the sunset cruise leaves Agios Sostis harbor, passing the famous Cameo Island (where our Mama Mia weddings take place) you will see the beautiful harbor skyline as the bright turquoise seas of the Ionian beckon.

The Zakynthos Sunset Champagne Cruise sails towards the photogenic Marathonisi island, better known as Turtle Island , where the boat stops for photographs while your guide explains all about this amazing white sandy beach and island, known for its importance as a nesting area of the Caretta Caretta loggerhead turtles . Leaving Marathonisi Island the Sunset Champagne Cruise sails around the stunning Zakynthos Coastline towards the South-West exploring the fantastic views of stunning white cliffs.

On this journey you can indulge yourself in the amazing blue colors of the Ionian sea with opportunities to enjoy an evening swim and snorkel at the Keri Caves ; bliss! Back on board the boat, it’s time to harmonize with the final chords of our sunset symphony tour as we sail towards the outstanding beauty of the rock formation the Mizithres . These rock formations reveal an enchanting serenity and are among the top three most photographed places on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok on Zakynthos . The ultimate place for your 'picture perfect' moments! It’s here where we raise our champagne glasses to the good things in life, as we watch the sun go down in between these two iconic rock formations, the horizon lighting up with swirls of pink and orange, finally fading to blue and purple across the Ionian Sea.

Finally, saying a goodbye to the sun, the Zante Sunset Champagne Cruise , adorned with blue LED lights, guided by the last light of day, sails back to the harbor at Agios Sostis surrounded by the pinned-studded mountains, the sunset, and the endless blue sea all combining to create the ideal setting for an amazing Zakynthos sunset tour . Join us on this Odyssey to experience Mother Nature at its best; a unique Zakynthian trip that will create memories to last a lifetime!

Are the tours child friendly and what is considered child age?

Our child age is normally 12 years old, but we can be flexible on our "VIP Eco-friendly turtle spotting" tour and "Back to the roots" minibus island tour, if families are travelling with teenagers.

On our VIP "Once upon a time" tour the children and young at heart will step back in time and by interactive stories will enter the world of Aesop and his enchanting and inspiring stories. They will learn a little Greek poem and while we sit around the camp fire singing songs, you might drift away to your own childhood memories… On our VIP Eco-friendly turtle spotting tour , we will have a presentation from the Sea Protection Society Archelon where the children will learn about the high endangered Caretta - Caretta Turtles and in a pirate game they will also learn a few facts about Odysseus while looking for the treasure. At our VIP "Back to the roots" tour they will hear a few nice short Greek mythology stories and see and learn how Zakynthian olive oil and local sweet are made. They can sing along with the live music over lunch and the tour has many stops, what means that they will be out and about and entertaint the whole day. Many of our little Nefis friends have send us beautiful drawings, from this unique tour afterwards. At our VIP Shipwreck and Blue Caves tour the children might see dolphins or our Monachus Monachus seals and get guided with nice stories about Zante. On certain days they will be able to enter a pirate game at the Smugglers Cove, please do ask about this opportunity! Our family tours are designed to spark a passion, inspire a sense of wonder, and enrich understanding.

What happens if the sea conditions are not okay for a tour?

We at Nefis Travel provide the highest level of customer service given on the island. If the weather reports are bad, we will cancel the tours and give you a refund. If the weather shows a 50-50 situation, we will phone you on your mobiles or at the hotels before the tour starts and tell you that we might have to use an alternative program. This only happens on the Shipwreck and Blue Caves tours. The east coast of the island as in Blue Caves and Xingia Sea Spa and the west coast as in Shipwreck beach is possible to have 2 totally different sea conditions. Our captains will check the situation early in the morning and if we see that the Blue Caves and Xingia Spa, east coast are okay but around cape Skinari on our way to the west coast, the sea doesn’t allow us to go to the Shipwreck beach, we will create Plan B: Plan B: We will go to the Shipwreck platform by bus so you'll see the Shipwreck from above and we will offer extra time at the Blue Caves for pictures and swimming, and go to the Xingia Sea Spa after our lunch stop. We will tell you honestly what the situation is and leave the choice to you. You can swap your trip around and go on another day, take a refund or decide to come. From our experience those who came on these few rare days that this happens in the summer, still had a great day out. And as we said it is a 50-50 situation sometimes the wind drops, while we drive to the harbor and we can still sail to the Shipwreck beach. We at Nefis Travel just want to be as straight forward about as we can be and will always be honest about the weather conditions.
