America fly drives.

Discover the real USA at your own pace on a wonderfully crafted self drive or fly drive holiday, where we take care of all the planning so that you can hit the road with reassurance and confidence.

Part of the pleasure of a self drive holiday in America is the driving itself, the roads are quiet and the scenery is breathtaking. There really is no better way to see America or to meet the locals than on a self drive. Stop off in small towns that you might not have otherwise visited and enjoy a different way of exploring.

More Freedom, Less Hassle

Our popular self drives and fly drives are designed to give you the maximum level of freedom with the minimum amount of hassle. We’ve included an air-conditioned car, a well planned route and comfortable pre-booked hotels along the way.

For fly drive holidays our Travel Consultants can find the best flights and connections to fit your itinerary, so you can make the most of your time in the USA. It couldn’t be easier to start your journey and discover the America that best suits you.

Designed For You

One of our pre-planned self drives will certainly help you get the most out of your trip to America, but there is always more to see. If you would like to explore further, or maybe just take things at a slower pace, our experts will work with you to create a self drive or fly drive holiday that suits both the time you have and the style of trip you are looking for. Whether you want to add nights on or detour to various other locations, your self drive holiday can be designed especially for you.

Add A City Stay

Most of our self drives start and finish in larger cities, so we highly recommend you stay for a few nights before or after your tour, with or without your car. It’s a great opportunity to explore another location, enjoy the major sights, or even get a feel for the vast differences between urban and rural life in America.

Our experts can combine any USA self drive or fly drive with discounted international flights from most major UK airports to complete your tailor-made holiday.

Route 66 Holidays

Cruise the most famous road in the world: drive through 8 states along legendary route 66.

Few roads are as well known as Route 66. Often known as “The Mother Road” or “Main Street of America”, Route 66 was established in 1926 as the first true interstate highway and soon became a busy route from Chicago to Los Angeles during the Great Depression as people travelled west in the hope of prosperity in California. As you will learn during your trip, these migrants often set up home along the route with cafes, gas stations and other businesses suited to the weary traveller. Covering almost 2500 miles and eight US states, driving Route 66 is a road trip holiday like no other: it isn’t as much about reaching the destination, it is more about the journey itself. You’ll drive through ghost towns, see abandoned motels, gas stations, diners, derelict neon signs and meet some real characters along the way!

Many holiday companies “sell” Route 66 trips, but don’t really know it well. Our Travel Experts have all driven the route multiple times and know what they’re talking about. We will make sure your trip is perfect for you and you’ll often stay in some of the historic hotels and motels which existed in the route’s heyday which have been restored to a high standard. Las Vegas was never actually part of the "Mother Road". Some of our trips include Vegas and others don’t. Just let us know what you want to do and we’ll make sure the trip is perfect for you.

Remember!!! These are just a few example holidays. If you don’t see a suitable itinerary, please click here and we will build a bespoke trip for you, at no extra cost. We love building tailor made holidays!

3 Great Reasons to book with us

Historic Accommodation

We want you to experience the essence of Route 66 and this means you’ll stay in historic, restored and well maintained hotels and motels where possible, unless you prefer upgraded accommodation

Authentic Experience

Route 66 is not about driving on the interstate, it is about taking your time on the original route. We’ll tell you the best way to enjoy the trip by stopping at the best locations, diners and museums

We give back to Route 66

We’re active members of several state Route 66 associations and try to help those businesses which make the trip so special. You can help too by eating in a family run diner instead of a burger chain

5 American road trips to inspire your next holiday

One of the best ways to discover America is by hitting the open road. Whether you dream of exploring the breath-taking California coast, the beaches of Florida or the iconic Route 66, the choice of road trips across the USA is endless. If you’re planning your next holiday and you want to have the adventure of a lifetime, keep on reading. Here are 5 American road trips to inspire your next holiday.

1 . California Fly/Drive

Oh California! One of the most iconic states in America is best enjoyed by road. This west coast state offers a really unique blend of cosmopolitan cities with breath-taking nature and even more gorgeous beach resorts. For anyone thinking of doing a California road trip, we highly recommend you begin your route in San Francisco and travel south towards Los Angeles or San Diego, if time is on your side. In San Francisco, take in popular attractions including Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf. And after your time in the city, pick up your car and hit the road!

If you adore hiking, head inland to Yosemite National Park or even Napa Valley if you would like to try some wine tours on your holiday. Once done, head back to the coast and plan some stops in gorgeous Monterrey or Carmel before driving along Highway 1 which hugs the coastline. Driving over Bixby Bridge will leave you breathless as the rugged coast gives you views you won’t see elsewhere.

Santa Barbara, known as the American Riviera, also needs to be on your list. This stunning, Spanish inspired city is Southern California at its finest and a few days here will have you feeling those laid back beach vibes you see on so many tv shows and movies. The food and shopping in Santa Barbara is also exceptional.

Next stop is Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world and home to a huge array of attractions including Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Boulevard, Santa Monica Pier and Universal Studios Hollywood. If time allows, be sure to take in a few days in gorgeous San Diego before your flight home.

California Fly Drive Suggested Itinerary:

 • San Francisco – 3-4 nights
 • Yosemite or Napa Valley – 1-2 nights
 • Monterrey or Carmel 1-2 nights
 • Santa Barbara – 2 nights
 • Los Angeles – 3-4 nights
 • San Diego – 2-3 nights

2. Florida Fly/Drive

When you think of the sunshine state of Florida, your first thought is often Orlando , but this gorgeous destination has a huge array of cities to visit across both of its coastlines. Every Florida holiday needs to have Orlando on its agenda, and it is also a fantastic starting point. While here, check out Universal Orlando Resort , Walt Disney World and SeaWorld Parks before hitting the open road and experiencing the rest of this gorgeous state.

If you head to the west coast of Florida, be sure to check out St. Pete/Clearwater to enjoy the multi-award winning beaches, dolphin watching, great food and the excellent art and culture scene. Nearby you will also find Tampa Bay which is home to Busch Gardens as well as a really trendy dining and nightlife scene. Head south from here and discover Naples and the beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel, three quieter cities in Florida that offer gorgeous beaches, exceptional dining and a more low key Florida experience. Once finished, we recommend you head east across the Everglades to Miami . This exciting city will captivate you with its colourful, art deco charm and its Latin vibes. If you can extend your stay even further, head north of Miami to Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach or go south to the breath-taking Florida Keys.

Suggested Florida Fly Drive Itinerary:

 • Orlando – 5 days+
 • St. Pete/Clearwater – 2 days
 • Naples or Fort Myers and Sanibel – 2 days

3. American South Fly/Drive

With a rich history, delicious cuisine and music at its heart, the American South is one of the most interesting places you can visit in America. This region of the USA is home to a huge array of major cities, all with their own personality as well as vibrant and historically significant smaller towns. If you would like to capture the best of the American South, we recommend you start your road trip holiday in Atlanta where you can enjoy the World of Coca Cola, National Center for Human and Civil Rights and so much more. After a day or two, head to Chattanooga. Always a popular spot on American South itineraries, in Chattanooga you can take in its rich railroad heritage, enjoy incredible views from Lookout Mountain and so much more.

Next up its trendy Nashville, the hub of Country Music and the heart of the American South. While here we recommend you catch a show at the Grand Ole Opry, visit the Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame and hit up some Honky Tonks on Broadway! A tour of Studio B is also a must to stand in the shoes of Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and many more greats. Musical Memphis is up next and first on your list needs to be a visit to Elvis Presley’s home Graceland. Other popular things to do in Memphis include the National Civil Rights Museum, Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum and Sun Studio.

Jackson is the capital of Mississippi and also worth a few days exploration on your trip. While here, check out the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, Old Capitol Museum, Museum of Mississippi History and much more. Your final American South road trip stop should be New Orleans. Posted: October 28, 2023 | Last updated: October 28, 2023

When going far isn't an option, a road trip is just the ticket, allowing plenty of opportunities to discover incredible places closer to home. There's ample opportunity to combine a road trip with some brilliant destinations along the way if you travel along some of the newest National Scenic Byways and All-American Roads. Buckle up and hit the road.

New road trip ideas

A total stunner of a road trip, this 72-mile (116km) route winds its way along a narrow barrier island, hugged by the Atlantic on one side, the Intercoastal Waterway on the other. It's worth driving this road for the glistening views and inviting white sand beaches alone, but there are plenty of stops to make too, like the historic city of St Augustine and multiple nature reserves and wildlife refuges. Technically, the drive starts at Ponte Vedra Beach and ends at Flagler Beach, but many road trippers continue their way further south to Daytona Beach.
