Central Florida Street Rod Association - Activities

Club Activities

CFSRA members attend many of the local cruise-ins both individually and as a group. Most often we go to monthly cruise-ins held in Lake Wales, Lakeland, Plant City and Winter Haven.

Recently club members have been cruising on selected Friday nights as a group to a local drive-in on for a burger and bull session.

Christmas Party

The club holds a Christmas party each year to reward those members who have been active in club events throughout the year.

Every year some CFSRA members attend the NSRA South Nationals in Knoxville, TN where they conduct kids games.

Miscellaneous

In the past, the club members have been asked to participate in some unique events such as chaeuffering a bride and groom to a wedding, driving a couple to an anniversary party, parking cars as backdrop for a 50’s party and displaying their cars at a local nursing home to cheer up the residents. These are not club organized events but allow members to demonstrate their individual support of the local community.

8 things to watch for in 49ers preseason opener vs. titans, share this article.

The San Francisco 49ers play football on Saturday!

Their preseason slate opens with a 4:00pm Pacific Time kickoff against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium.

Having the 49ers back on the field facing a different team will be fun and it’s another sign that regular season football is just around the corner. On the other hand, it won’t look like the 49ers. Most of the team’s starters aren’t expected to play, and the ones that do won’t be in the game for very long.

Saturday’s game won’t count in the standings, but there will be plenty of reason to watch. Here are things to look for when San Francisco faces Tennessee in the preseason opener:

Backup QB battle

2nd saturday cruise in

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – AUGUST 13: Quarterback Brandon Allen #4 of the San Francisco 49ers throws against the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth quarter of a preseason game at Allegiant Stadium on August 13, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Raiders defeated the 49ers 34-7. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Brandon Allen has been leading the way in the backup quarterback battle thanks to his knowledge of the offense after spending all of last season with San Francisco. Josh Dobbs is starting to get more comfortable, though. Game action will be the first chance for Dobbs to make a move on the QB2 job.

Kickoffs, kick returns, et. al

2nd saturday cruise in

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – AUGUST 13: Wide receiver Ronnie Bell #10 of the San Francisco 49ers makes a catch during a kick return in the second quarter of a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on August 13, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Raiders defeated the 49er 34-7. (Photo by Steve Marcus/Getty Images)

There’s a lot to watch on kickoffs! The 49ers have been practicing a handful of different kickoff strategies. They’ve also been trying out a bunch of different kick return combinations. It’s unlikely any team will divulge their full plan for the new kickoff rules in the preseason, but Saturday should give us a glimpse into how the 49ers plan to handle it from a personnel standpoint.

The young LBs

2nd saturday cruise in

Second-year linebackers Dee Winters and Jalen Graham have been an intriguing aspect of camp for the 49ers. Both players appear primed to take on bigger roles in San Francisco’s defense, but neither has made major headway on finding a starting job. It appears only the Sam LB spot is up for grabs. Winters and Graham are behind veterans Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and Curtis Robinson for that job going into the preseason opener. There’s a chance Graham and Winters are both ahead of that duo by the time the preseason ends.

A rookie on the OL

2nd saturday cruise in

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 05: Dominick Puni #77 of the San Francisco 49ers works out during mini camp on June 05, 2024 in Santa Clara, California. (Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images)

Dominick Puni has taken hold of the starting right guard spot after injuries pushed him quickly up the depth chart. He hasn’t done anything to lose his grip on it, but games divulge a lot more about offensive linemen than practice does. Saturday night could either open the right guard competition up, or Puni could put a stranglehold on the job with a good outing.

A rookie in the secondary

2nd saturday cruise in

Nov 19, 2022; Tallahassee, Florida, USA; Florida State University wide receiver defensive back Renardo Green (8) reacts during the second half against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at Doak S. Campbell Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Melina Myers-USA TODAY Sports

Keep a close eye on second-round cornerback Renardo Green. He’s been playing inside a lot in camp after not playing there in college. Versatility may be his path to a starting job. He could wind up being the nickel back if he acquits himself well in the slot against an opposing offense. A key for him will be avoiding penalties since overaggressiveness has been an issue for him at times in camp according to reports from the team facility.

An undrafted rookie

2nd saturday cruise in

May 10, 2024; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers running back Cody Schrader (38) runs drills during the 49ers rookie minicamp at LeviÕs Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Mandatory Credit: Robert Kupbens-USA TODAY Sports

Injuries have already hit the 49ers’ backfield. Christian McCaffrey has a calf injury. Fourth-round pick Isaac Guerendo hasn’t participated in camp because of a hamstring injury. And Elijah Mitchell has missed the last few practices. That could leave the door wide open for undrafted rookie running back Cody Schrader. He’s had a nice camp and his college production gives some optimism that he could be the next undrafted RB success for the 49ers.

The other pass rushers

2nd saturday cruise in

Jan 7, 2024; Santa Clara, California, USA; San Francisco 49ers defensive end Robert Beal Jr. (51) celebrates after a tackle against the Los Angeles Rams during the third quarter at Levi’s Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Bosa may not play a preseason snap. Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos may be in the same boat. The 49ers have plenty to figure out with their pass rush, though. Robert Beal Jr. could be primed for a breakout second season. Austin Bryant will also have a chance to carve out a role. San Francisco needs depth on the edges, so any productivity from any DE in Saturday’s game will be a welcome sight for the 49ers coaching staff.

Where's Brandon Aiyuk?

2nd saturday cruise in

Dec 31, 2023; Landover, Maryland, USA; San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (11) celebrates with fans after defeating the Washington Commanders at FedExField. Mandatory Credit: Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

It’s unclear whether Aiyuk will attend the game in Nashville, although it stands to reason he wouldn’t travel with the club as part of his hold-in for a new contract. Given how wild the Aiyuk saga has been we’re not taking anything off the table. If he’s on the sideline with his teammates, it’ll be a not bad sign. It would make sense though if he’s not at Nissan Stadium at all.

Hurricane Debby timeline: When will it make landfall?

Portrait of Brandon Girod

Hurricane Debby formed Sunday night and made landfall near Taylor and Dixie counties in the eastern Big Bend Monday morning.

Winds from Hurricane Debby reached 80 mph when it hit the Florida coast just miles from where Hurricane Idalia hit almost exactly one year ago.

Florida isn't in the clear yet, however. The Tallahassee area could still see tropical storm-force gusts along with downed trees and power lines as it makes its way northeast toward east Georgia and South Carolina, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Check out our new timeline: Hurricane Debby timeline: When will it pass through Florida, make second landfall?

A second landfall is expected later this week.

Here is a look at where Hurricane Debby is now and a timeline for the storm's path over the next week.

Where is Hurricane Debby as of 8 a.m. Monday

Hurricane Debby had just reached inland of the Florida Big Bend region at 8 a.m. Monday, in the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

Its current location is about 60 miles north-northwest of Cedar Key, and it's moving north-northeast, or 20 degrees, at about 10 mph.

Debby is expected to continue its gradual decrease in speed as it turns toward the northeast and east later Monday and Tuesday.

On the forecast track, the center will slowly across northern Florida and southern Georgia today and Tuesday, and be near the Georgia coast by Tuesday night. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 75 mph with higher gusts.

Additional weakening is expected as Debby moves over land today and tonight. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 mph. A wind gust to 62 mph was reported at Madison County High School within the last hour.

Where will Hurricane Debby be 2 p.m. Monday

Hurricane Debby is expected to be somewhere near Madison, Florida, by Monday afternoon. At this point, it will start a deeper hook as it transitions from moving north-northeast to east-northeast early Tuesday morning.

Hurricane Debby will likely lose strength as it continues to move across land and be downgraded back to Tropical Storm Debby.

Where will Hurricane Debby be 2 a.m. Tuesday

Early Tuesday morning, Tropical Storm Debby will have made its way across the Florida-Georgia line. At 2 a.m. Tuesday, Debby is expected to be east-northeast of Brunswick, Georgia. From here, the storm will begin a sharp turn east-northeast as it makes its way from Georgia's east coast and back into the Atlantic Ocean.

Where will Hurricane Debby be 2 p.m. Tuesday

Tropical Storm Debby will reach the Atlantic by Tuesday afternoon as it moves north-northeast and begins moving to another hook toward the north Wednesday afternoon.

Where will Hurricane Debby be 2 a.m. Wednesday

Tropical Storm Debby will begin to slow down and begin its hook north.

Where will Hurricane Debby be 2 p.m. Wednesday

Tropical Storm Debby will slow considerably as it hooks north toward South Carolina's east coast, where a second landfall is expected.

Where will Hurricane Debby be 2 a.m. Thursday

Tropical Storm Debby will have made its hook north and begin heading toward South Carolina.

Follow along for the latest updates from today’s Olympic action.

SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) — Noah Lyles walks around the Olympic Village in disguise, wearing sunglasses, a hat and even a mask to cut down on some of the attention he receives.

On the track, he can’t avoid it. Or everyone’s best shot.

It’s a lesson he learned when finishing second in his opening heat of the 100 meters Saturday at the Paris Games. The American got off to a sluggish start and finished in 10.04 seconds, which was .06 behind Louie Hinchliffe, a British sprinter being trained by Carl Lewis.

Going against Lyles is always a big deal.

“These boys said they were coming to play,” he said. “That’s my first lesson in underestimating the power of the Olympics. When somebody’s on the line, they’re going to give it their all or nothing.

“But now I don’t have to hold back. I’m ready to go.”

Lyles was clowning around before settling into the starting blocks. He preened for the camera, flashed his Team USA-themed nail polish — the color blue with stars —and threw some imaginary jabs like a prizefighter. He fed off the noise from the packed stadium. Once the race started, he needed to tap into an extra gear to climb back into second.

“To be honest, I was kind of playing my cards close to the chest,” Lyles explained.

Image

The second-place finish means Lyles, the reigning world champion at 100 and 200 meters, won’t have the premier lane choice when he races in the semifinals Sunday. If he advances from that, he’ll race for the gold medal later in the evening.

“I downplayed my competitors for sure,” Lyles said. “I was like, ‘There’s no reason to really put any emphasis on it.’ But these guys proved to me that they’re ready to compete. I said, ‘All right, I can’t do that anymore.’ I promise that will not happen again.”

Also advancing in the early heats were Kishane Thompson of Jamaica, who slowed over last 20 meters and still won his heat in 10 seconds flat. Thompson’s heat was delayed several minutes after British sprinter Jeremiah Azu was called for a false start. Azu looked at the replay and pleaded his case with the officials before leaving the track.

Catch up on the latest from Day 14 of the 2024 Paris Olympics:

  • Boxing: Algerian boxer Imane Khelif will win either a gold or a silver medal when she fights Yang Liu of China in the final of the women’s welterweight division.
  • Relay: 100-meter silver medalist Sha’Carri Richardson will lead the U.S. women’s relay team in 4x100-meter final.
  • Soccer: France will face Spain in the final of the men’s soccer tournament, meaning there’ll be a European gold medalist at the Olympics for the first time in 32 years.
  • Keep up : Follow along with our Olympics medal tracker and list of winners. Check out the Olympic schedule of events.

Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya won his heat in 10.08 and Oblique Seville of Jamaica won his in 9.99. Reigning Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs, who said he was bitten by an insect while in the starting blocks, finished second in his heat to advance.

“I made a few mistakes at the start,” Jacobs said, “which didn’t allow me to get the pace that I wanted.”

Lyles’ U.S. teammates, Fred Kerley and Kenny Bednarek, won their heats in strong fashion, too, both going 9.97.

“This year, I’m changing the narrative. I’ve been the underdog for a couple of years,” said Bednarek, a silver medalist in the 200 meters at the Tokyo Olympics. “I’m not trying to be the underdog, I’m trying to be the top dog. Once I finally hit that milestone, I’m not coming back. I’m going to run away with it.”

OLYMPIC PHOTOS : See AP’s top photos from the 2024 Paris games

For Lyles, this was just business. After his race, he even approached Hinchliffe with words of encouragement.

“Just, ‘Well done,’” Hinchliffe said of their conversation. “Just acknowledging me.”

Lyles said the pressure of the world championships last summer was more than he’s felt so far at these Olympics.

“I felt like I had to fight to prove that I was the fastest,” said Lyles, one of the stars of a Netflix documentary on sprinters. “This time, a lot of people know it and I already have the target on my back.”

He’s not sure what kind of time it’s going to take to claim Olympic gold but he is confident of this: “I’m going to run it,” Lyles said.

Second chance

Abbey Caldwell of Australia was one of the women’s 800-meter runners who took advantage of the safety net that is the repechage round to move on to the semifinals. This is the first Olympics where track has used the repechage rule, which gives a second chance to hurdlers and to sprinters and middle-distance runners who don’t move on from their opening heats in the 200 through 1,500 meters.

Caldwell grabbed one of the six spots available.

“I’m very fortunate and super happy,” Caldwell said.

Mondo Cruises

It was an easy day of qualifying for defending Olympic pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis. The Swedish world-record holder took just two jumps and cleared both heights.

“A boring qualifying in a way, which I wanted,” Duplantis said. “As uneventful as I wanted.”

American Sam Kendricks made it through but his teammate Christopher Nilsen, the Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo, didn’t advance.

Around the track

Comoros sprinter Hachim Maaroufou wears a hat turned backward when he races for one simple reason — it makes it easier for family and friends to spot him. ... Shaun Gill, who represents Belize, is calling it a career so he can become an industrial engineer. “Time to gain that real-world experience of an engineer,” the 31-year-old graduate of Texas A&M University Kingsville said.
