2024 TOUR Championship Final Field and Starting Leaderboard

Keegan Bradley wins BMW Championship; Scottie Scheffler maintains FedExCup lead entering East Lake for the third year

ATLANTA — The field is set for the 2024 TOUR Championship with the top 30 players in the FedExCup qualifying for the season finale at the newly restored East Lake Golf Club. Keegan Bradley captured the seventh win of his PGA TOUR career and his first of the 2024 season at the BMW Championship, elevating him to No. 4. in the FedExCup entering the TOUR Championship. Scottie Scheffler will become the first player to open the TOUR Championship as the FedExCup leader for a third consecutive season, a position he has held since winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.

Xander Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship and Open Championship this year, notched T2 and T5 finishes in the first two Playoffs events and will enter the week at No. 2 in the FedExCup. Hideki Matsuyama, who earned his 10th PGA TOUR title at the FedEx St. Jude Championship before withdrawing from the BMW Championship with lower back discomfort, enters at No. 3.

The FedExCup Playoffs conclude this week at the TOUR Championship, supported by Proud Partners Accenture, Coca-Cola and Southern Company, where the top 30 players will compete for the FedExCup title as the PGA TOUR’s season champion. The first and second rounds will be broadcast live on Golf Channel from historic East Lake Golf Club on Thursday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Aug. 30 from 1-6 p.m. The third round will be broadcast on Golf Channel from 1-2:30 p.m. and on NBC from 2:30-7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, with the final round slated for Sunday, Sept. 1 from 12-1:30 p.m. on Golf Channel and 1:30-6 p.m. on NBC.

Other Player Storylines:

  • Scottie Scheffler (No. 1) holds the FedExCup lead entering the TOUR Championship for the third consecutive year. Scheffler finished T2 and T6 in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
  • With his victory at the BMW Championship, Keegan Bradley moved from No. 50 to No. 4 in the FedExCup. Bradley entered the FedEx St. Jude Championship at No. 39, finished T59, and fell to No. 50 to grab the final spot at the BMW Championship. He will be making his sixth career start at the TOUR Championship.
  • Four players began the BMW Championship outside the top 30 in the FedExCup and played their way into the TOUR Championship: Keegan Bradley (No. 50 to No. 4), Adam Scott (No. 41 to No. 14), Tommy Fleetwood (No. 31 to No. 22) and Chris Kirk (No. 32 to No. 26).
  • Ludvig Åberg (No. 5)
  • Shane Lowry (No. 13)
  • Byeong-Hun An (No. 16)
  • Akshay Bhatia (No. 19)
  • Robert MacIntyre (No. 20)
  • Matthieu Pavon (No. 24)
  • Taylor Pendrith (No. 25)
  • Aaron Rai (No. 28)
  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout (No. 29)
  • Five former FedExCup Champions qualified for the TOUR Championship: No. 6 Rory McIlroy (2016, 2019, 2022), No. 10 Patrick Cantlay (2021), No. 17 Viktor Hovland (2023), No. 21 Billy Horschel (2014) and No. 30 Justin Thomas (2017). Thomas, who failed to advance to the FedExCup Playoffs in 2023, will make his eighth appearance at the TOUR Championship after securing the 30th and final spot in the field.

PGA Tour, FedEx Cup,

The FedEx Cup finale is here, and the Top 30 PGA Tour players will take on a brand new East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship .

This year marks the 18th edition of this event in Atlanta.

This week, the players start with the stagger stroke format. Scottie Scheffler starts with 10-under, Xander Schauffele will be at 8-under, and it goes down from there.

Let’s look at this week’s power rankings for all 30 guys in the field at the Tour Championship.

2024 Tour Championship Power Rankings

Robert MacIntyre, FedEx Cup, Tour Championship

30. Robert MacIntyre

Robert MacIntyre comes in this week with two victories at the RBC Canadian Open and the Scottish Open. However, he withdrew from the BMW Championship last week due to a sore back, which makes me hesitant about his ability in Atlanta.

Starting stroke: 2-under

29. Matthieu Pavon

Matthieu Pavon started the year strong with a win at the Farmers Insurance Open. He has four Top 10s and six Top 25s on the season. Pavon is the only PGA Tour rookie in the field this week, and the best way I like to describe him is a wild card.

Starting stroke: 1-under

28. Byeong Hun An

Byeong Hun An is one of the players who has not won this year. He comes into this week at No. 16 in the standings after ending the season with one runner-up finish at The Sony Open in Hawaii, five Top 10s and 11 Top 25s. He is another wildcard in the field this week, but he could finish sneaky high.

Akshay Bhatia, Tour Championship, FedEx Cup

27. Akshay Bhatia

Putting Akshay Bhatia this low hurts because he won the Valero Texas Open in April. However, he has missed two cuts in the last five starts. Before that, Bhatia did finish T-2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and T-5 at the Travelers. I want him to prove me wrong because this 22-year-old is too good not to give the veterans a challenge.

26. Christiaan Bezuidenhout

The South African is one of three non-winners in the field. He finished runner-up to Nick Dunlap at the American Express. During the season, Bezuidenhout has three top 10s and 12 top 25s. He slid into the Top 30 barely, but nonetheless, the 30-year-old is in Atlanta.

Starting stroke: even-par

Sahith Theegala, FedEx Cup, Tour Championship

25. Sahith Theegala

Theegala has gone up and down this season. His inconsistency issues are why he sits this low in the power rankings. Seven Top 10s on the season is no easy feat. He also has 10 Top 25s. Theegala started his season with a solo second at The Sentry and a solo fifth place at the WM Phoenix Open.

He finished T-6 at the 3M Open, but the first two playoff events were not good for him.

Starting stroke: 3-under

24. Aaron Rai

Aaron Rai is a great story. He won the Wyndham Championship and followed it up with a T-16 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He had a stretch of T-2, T-7 and T-4, so his rise into the Top 30 has been entertaining.

23. Taylor Pendrith

Taylor Pendrith, a first-timer at East Lake, has a lot of momentum surrounding him. He won the CJ CUP Byron Nelson in May. The Canadian has six Top 10s and 13 Top 25s in 2024. He is coming off a T-13 finish at the BMW Championship and a T-22 in Memphis.

Pendrith recorded back-to-back Top 5s at the Barracuda Championship and the 3M Open to close out his regular season. His game is trending in the right direction, so he could surprise some people in Atlanta.

22. Chris Kirk

Chris Kirk opened the 2024 PGA Tour season with a win at The Sentry. However, he almost did not make it to Atlanta. A T-9 at the BMW Championship helped him get inside the bubble and give the former Georgia Bulldog his first East Lake start in 10 years.

21. Tom Hoge

Tom Hoge finished T-13 at the BMW last week, and this week marks just his second start in East Lake. I'm not sure how to gauge Hoge, so he is lower on this list.

Justin Thomas, FedEx Cup, Tour Championship

20. Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas missed the playoffs last year and comes into the 2024 finale in the last spot. His worst finish at East Lake came in 2018 when he was T-7, so despite being 10 shots back of Scheffler, do not count him out.

19. Russell Henley

I do not know how to feel about Russell Henley because he has six Top 10s and 10 Top 25s while missing just one cut in 18 starts. He comes into this week off a T-22 finish at the BMW, but does he have enough in him to take down the likes of Scheffler and Schauffele?

Tony Finau, Scottie Scheffler, FedEx Cup, PGA Tour

18. Tony Finau

Tony Finau makes his eighth straight start at the Tour Championship. He was in contention a lot this season and kept it consistent, but he could not get a win. I think Finau could be a dark horse this week, and if he can get some momentum, he could finish well.

17. Shane Lowry

It is hard to believe that Shane Lowry is making his first start at the Tour Championship, but he is. He and Rory McIlroy won the Zurich Classic earlier this season, and Lowry played so well at The Open. The Irishman loves challenging golf courses, and the newly renovated East Lake should give him one.

Billy Horschel, FedEx Cup, Tour Championship

16. Billy Horschel

Billy Horschel finished runner-up at the Open but also won the Corales Puntacana Championship. He was T-8 at the PGA Championship , T-15 at the Memorial, T-7 at the Wyndham, T-10 in Memphis and T-22 at the BMW.

The former Florida Gator won at East Lake 10 years ago, but something about Horschel’s game makes me feel like he will play well. He wants on the Presidents Cup team and possibly the Ryder Cup team, so the better he plays, the better his odds will be.

15. Hideki Matsuyama

Hideki Matsuyama withdrew from the BMW after he won the FedEx St. Jude Championship. His back injury flared up, and he is still not 100 percent. Will his body hold up for four days of play, or will the Japanese golfer have to pull out? His injury is why he sits so low in the power rankings.

Viktor Hovland, PGA Tour, FedEx Cup

14. Viktor Hovland

Viktor Hovland had the golf gods on his side this season. He did not play up to his standards and recorded one Top 10 finish before he was T-2 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. This week marks his fifth straight East Lake start, but will he be able to keep his game consistent enough to defend his title?

13. Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics earlier this summer. He finished T-5 at the BMW to earn his fourth Tour Championship start. The Englishman is another dark horse for me, but this week could finally be his moment.

12. Sepp Straka

This year marks Sepp Straka’s third straight appearance at East Lake. He averages 67.38 on this track. Do not count out this former Georgia Bulldog because his consistency is a good trait in Atlanta.

Wyndham Clark, PGA Tour, FedEx Cup

11. Wyndham Clark

The 2023 U.S. Open winner had an up-and-down season, so he sits at No. 11 on this list. Wyndham Clark played well at the Olympics, but it does not eliminate how badly he played at the majors this week. Yes, he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and finished T-13 in Colorado, but I do not think he will win this week.

Starting stroke: 4-under

10. Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa has seven Top 10s and 15 Top 25s in 20 starts. He finished runner-up at the Memorial, but the two-time major winner cannot get over the hump in 2024. Morikawa has been quiet recently, even though he has had a T-28, T-22, T-24, and T-16 in his last four starts. Could Morikawa play well? Sure, but I do not see him winning.

9. Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay enters this year’s Tour Championship in the same place he did in 2023. He won the 2021 FedEx Cup title, but I think he has been too quiet this year. Even with six straight Top 25s, he has just blended in with the crowd.

8. Adam Scott

Adam Scott played his way into Atlanta this year and came close to winning the BMW Championship. The 44-year-old shot a 63 in the second round in Colorado, which helped keep him in contention.

This week marks his 13th start at East Lake, and he has a lot of momentum. He did not finish like he wanted to at Castle Pines, so I expect him to come into this week aggressive and with something to prove.

Keegan Bradley, PGA Tour, FedEx Cup

7. Keegan Bradley

Keegan Bradley was the last person to get into the BMW, and he went on to win the whole thing. He is on a hot streak, and it could continue in Atlanta. Bradley wants to be one of the captain’s picks for the Presidents Cup and to make a good argument for being a playing captain in 2025 at Bethpage Black.

He could achieve just that if he wins or finishes nicely in Atlanta. Last year, Bradley was T-9 at East Lake.

Starting stroke: 6-under

6. Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy took away Scheffler’s trophy in 2022 to win in this format for the second time. He started in the same place that year as he will in 2024, so McIlroy is familiar with this kind of start. However, the Northern Irishman opened the playoffs with a T-68 in Memphis, but he rebounded in Colorado with a T-11.

It is hard to count him out with all his success at East Lake, so McIlroy is one to watch.

Stroke start: 4-under

5. Sam Burns

Sam Burns is one of the hottest players on the planet right now. He went T-5 and T-2 in the first two playoff events. Burns’ game seems complete at this moment in the season. The former LSU Tiger could shock everyone and win if he keeps playing as well as he has in the past two weeks.

4. Sungjae Im

Sungjae Im makes his sixth straight start in Atlanta. He is overdue for a win, and his game fits this course well. He is a force and has seven Top 10s in 2024. The Korean golfer was T-11 at the BMW, T-7 at the Open and T-4 at the Genesis Scottish Open.

In his last five starts, Im has three Top 11 finishes—it is his time this week. I expect a top-5 finish, at least from him.

Ludvig Åberg, PGA Tour, FedEx Cup

3. Ludvig Åberg

The Swedish phenom, Ludvig Åberg , makes his first start at East Lake this week, and I think he has a chance to prove himself in a big way. Åberg starts five strokes behind Scheffler and has five Top 5 finishes in 2024. It is only a matter of time before he wins his second career PGA Tour win, and it could come this week in Atlanta.

Åberg plays well in Georgia — his last two starts include a win at the RSM Classic and a solo second at Augusta National.

Starting stroke: 5-under

Xander Schauffele, Tour Championship, PGA Tour, FedEx Cup

2. Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele is likely the one to beat this week, but this renovation makes me weary of him. He loved the old design, so it will be interesting to see how he handles these renovations. Schauffele T-2 at the FedEx St. Jude and T-5 at Castle Pines. Could he complete the playoffs with a win?

Starting stroke: 8-under

1. Scottie Scheffler

For the third year, Scottie Scheffler starts at the top of the FedEx Cup finale leaderboard. He was T-33 last week in Colorado, as it seemed his back bothered him. However, his competitive edge should not go unnoticed.

The former Texas Longhorn wants this one badly, and it would be iconic if he capped off his incredible season with a win at the Tour Championship.

Starting stroke: 10-under

WILMINGTON, Del. — Sahith Theegala knew what was on the line and knew what he had to do, which may explain why he had the damndest time keeping his hands in one place.

“Yeah, I was really nervous this morning. I had my best friend Roy with me this week, and it was cool having him by my side. But I was nervous,” Theegala said Sunday afternoon after a closing 68. “I had a little bit of the shakes warming up. I couldn't hold my hands still.” In case the message wasn’t clear, Theegala added “It was a wild ride.”

And a ride that Theegala and a select few will continue one more week.

While Patrick Cantlay captured the BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club there were 29 others who can count themselves winners in Delaware on Sunday, finishing inside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup to earn a trip to next week’s Tour Championship.

“Yeah, it's really exciting,” said Corey Conners, whose T-5 finish will keep his season alive. “It's always a goal at the start of the year. I feel like I've had a solid season. Still trying to get in the winner's circle again, but a lot of really solid play, giving myself some chances, and really excited to be going back to East Lake.”

MORE: The clubs Patrick Cantlay used to win the BMW Championship

Aside from a Brinks truck worth of guaranteed money—$500,000 for last place at East Lake, $18 million for a victory—a spot in the Tour Championship brings exemptions into the Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship along with a number of invites into the tour’s more important events. In short, if you make it to the season finale at East Lake, your next year is made .

There were four players that were outside the top 30 entering the week that earned a trip to Atlanta thanks to their performances at the BMW. Scott Stallings leads the group, his runner-up finish jumping him 34 spots to No. 12.

Other players that vaulted into the top 30 were Adam Scott, K.H. Lee and Aaron Wise.

Scott provided the drama late on Sunday afternoon. Needing a par on the 18th hole, the Aussie's tee shot finished on a hill in the rough. It left Scott standing in a bunker with his ball two feet above his feet as he went to play his second shot. His approach wasn’t great, finding a greenside bunker, yet pulled off a marvelous third to inside two feet and cleaned up what remained to secure his spot in next week’s field.

Scott, one of just two players to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs all 16 years since its inception, moved from 46th at the start of the week to 29th. It was the second straight week that he had “played” his way into the next playoff event, after finishing T-5 at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship go from 82nd to 46th.

MORE: Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the BMW Championship

The final player in was Wise, who also made 4 on the closing hole when a 5 would have pushed him out.

“Yeah, it means a lot,” Wise said. “It's tough to be in the top 30 on this tour for a year. It's an honor. It takes a lot of hard work. It takes a lot of good golf. Especially the first time I made it I had a win, which I feel like really helps you. This time I did it without a win. So it's kind of even more sweet to be in that elite field without having a win this year.”

Of course, for players to jump out that means other have fallen out. Bad weeks by Tom Kim, Davis Riley and Kevin Kisner equated to their seasons coming to an end. J.J. Spaun, who entered the week at No. 30, dropped three spots at the BMW, unable to overcome a Friday 74.

Shane Lowry, who began the week at No. 37, was the first man out, a T-12 finish not enough to get him where he needed to be.

There is a golf tournament to be played next week, and once it begins all focus will be on the competition. But to most making the trip to even be in a position to compete is reward in itself, and one not lost on Theegala.

“I think the validation of the season, it's another step for me to feel like I really belong because I still don't feel like I'm really there at the top of the game,” Theegala said. “Slowly building confidence every week, whether it's a good or bad week. I feel like I've made a lot of progress. Yeah, it would mean the world to make the Tour Championship and stand along 29 of the other best golfers in the world.”

US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley clinched a shock win at the BMW Championship that sees him enter next week's Tour Championship in fourth place.

Bradley, who was named the USA's 2025 Ryder Cup captain last month, had only just squeezed into 50-man field for the tournament as the final qualifier.

The 38-year-old shot an even-par 72 in his final round at Castle Pines on Sunday to finish 12 under, one stroke clear of Ludvig Åberg, Sam Burns and Adam Scott in a tie for second.

2024 Tour Championship Full Field: Top 30 Battle for the FedEx Cup and Big Bucks

John schwarb | aug 26, 2024.

Venerable East Lake Golf Club is again the site of the Tour Championship.

The PGA Tour season which began in January in Kapalua ends this week in Atlanta.

The Tour Championship is again the finale for the three-tournament FedEx Cup playoffs, where the field has been whittled from 70 to 50 to 30. A $100 million prize pool is at stake this week with a whopping $25 million to the winner. Pro golf is overflowing with cash these days but that’s still a number that will get the attention of the world’s best.

Scottie Scheffler comes in at the top of the points list and will start at -10 in the “starting strokes” format—and if that sounds familiar, it is. Scheffler has come in as the points leader three years in a row, but the last two times he failed to bring home the big prize as Rory McIlroy grabbed it in 2022 (his third FedEx Cup) and Viktor Hovland won last year. Both are in the field again this year, as are past FedEx Cup champions Patrick Cantlay (2021), Xander Schauffele (2017) and Billy Horschel (2014).

Xander Schauffele, who has had the low gross score outright or tied in two of the last four years (meaning best score regardless of starting strokes), will begin the week two behind Scheffler. Hideki Matsuyama, the winner of the first playoff event at the FedEx St. Jude, is three back and Keegan Bradley—the Cinderella story who barely made it to the BMW Championship then won it —is four back. The farthest-back players will be at even and need to make up a lot of ground to contend for the title.

East Lake Golf Club, the oldest course in Atlanta and where Bobby Jones learned how to play, has hosted the Tour Championship annually since 2004. The course underwent a significant restoration and will look a bit different on screens this year, especially with the removal of many trees. The course is now a par-71 instead of 70 (the downhill 14th hole will now be a par-5) and playing slightly longer at 7,490 yards.

FedEx Cup Playoffs: Tour Championship format, how it works, bonus payouts

Here's the starting positions, format and bonus payout for the season-ending Tour Championship, the final leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

All that talk you hear about trying to earn a spot in the Tour Championship? Here’s why it’s worth it.

Only 30 players qualified for this week’s season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake it Atlanta, which is the third and final leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. But for getting into the playoffs (top 70), past the FedEx St. Jude (top 50) and through the BMW Championship (top 30), players are handsomely rewarded.

All players in the Tour Championship get a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and invites for the 2024 Masters. (U.S. Open and Open Championship exemptions are likely, too, although those haven’t been announced yet.)

Oh, right, and the money. There’s a lot of that. A total purse of $75 million is up for grabs.

The winner brings home a whopping $18 million, but even the runner-up gets $6.5 million and third place $5 million. In fact, everyone inside the top 10 gets seven figures. As for last place? They get $500,000, which isn’t exactly pocket change, either.

Here’s the entire bonus payout for the FedEx Cup Playoffs and Tour Championship.

FedEx Cup Playoffs, Tour Championship bonus structure

1st — $18 million 2nd — $6.5 million 3rd — $5 million 4th — 4 million 5th — $3 million 6th — $2.5 million 7th — $2 million 8th — $1.5 million 9th — $1.25 million 10th — $1 million 11th — $950,000 12th — $900,000 13th — $850,000 14th — $800,000 15th — $760,000 16th — $720,000 17th — $700,000 18th — $680,000 19th — $660,000 20th — $640,000 21st — $620,000 22nd — $600,000 23rd — $580,000 24th — $565,000 25th — $550,000 26th — $540,000 27th — $530,000 28th — $520,000 29th — $510,000 30th — $500,000

As for how the FedEx Cup Playoffs actually work, that’s another story. It’s evolved over the years, and this year the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings after the Wyndham Championship qualified for the playoffs and were guaranteed their Tour cards for the following season.

The first of three playoff stages was the FedEx St. Jude, and the top 50 in the standings afterward advanced to last week’s BMW Championship . That was a big hurdle that came with an important incentive, too, as those who made it to the BMW field earned guaranteed spots into the Tour’s eight big-money Signature Events for 2024.

Finally, the top 30 after the BMW Championship head to Atlanta for this week’s Tour Championship. The Tour uses staggered starting positions (FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler is in first, so he has a head start at 10 under, and so on), but we’ve learned anything can happen.

Last year, Rory McIlroy came from nine shots back after he tripled bogeyed the first hole to top Scheffler and win the tournament (and massive first-place payout).

Here are the starting positions for everyone in the playoffs.

Tour Championship starting scores

10 under: Scottie Scheffler Eight under: Viktor Hovland Seven under: Rory McIlroy Six under: Jon Rahm Five under: Lucas Glover Four under: Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick Three under: Tommy Fleetwood, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele Two under: Tom Kim, Sungjae Im, Tony Finau, Corey Conners, Si Woo Kim One under: Taylor Moore, Nick Taylor, Adam Schenk, Collin Morikawa, Jason Day Even: Sam Burns, Emiliano Grillo, Tyrrell Hatton, Jordan Spieth, Sepp Straka

What are the benefits, perks of getting in the FedEx Cup top 30 & Tour Championship: Tournaments, exemptions

top 30 pga tour championship

With the final round of the BMW Championship complete, the 50-player field at will be reduced to 30 for next week's playoff finale at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

There's a lot on the line, with many benefits to the 30 players who make it to East Lake. Players who get into the top 30 and advance to the season finale obviously have a chance to win the Tour Championship, and with the Tour Championship format change, a chance to win the FedEx Cup and its $25 million first-place prize .

However, on top of the monetary benefits, players who get into the Tour Championship field also earn entry into three majors, a variety of invitation-only events and more.

What exactly do the FedEx Cup top 30 get by getting into the Tour Championship?

Benefits of qualifying for PGA Tour's Tour Championship

  • Entry into three of the four major championships: The Masters, US Open and British Open Championship (and effectively entry into the PGA Championship)
  • A minimum of $550,000 for finishing in 30th place in the Tour Championship, paid through the 2019 FedEx Cup bonus pool payout
  • Entry into all Signature events next year: The Sentry, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, The Players Championship, Travelers Championship, The Genesis Invitational, the Memorial Tournament, Truist Championship
  • Likely improved tee-time slotting for much of the next season, including more featured groups

2024 Tour Championship purse, prize money: Payout from $100M FedEx Cup pool for Scottie Scheffler, field

The $25 million bonus paid out to the tour championship winner is the largest in pga tour history.

fedex-cup-playoffs-trophy-2023-g.jpg

The largest prize fund ever established was  dished out on Sunday at the 2024 Tour Championship as the entire PGA Tour season concluded at East Lake Golf Club. With the top 30 players from the PGA Tour vying for their slice of the $100 million FedEx Cup bonus pool -- up $25 million from last year -- competitors had the chance to see jaw-dropping figures hit their back accounts by week's end.

Signature events and the first two playoff events boasted a total purse of $20 million, which amounted to $5 million less than what this week's eventual winner will take home. Increasing $7 million compared to the last two seasons, the winner's share represents the largest in PGA Tour history and a $10 million increase compared to 2019 -- the first year of the staggered start format.

Scottie Scheffler was the lone man to surpass $25 million in earnings this season as he won the Masters, Players Championship and four signature events -- six of the largest paydays of the year . Xander Schauffele nearly clipped $20 million himself thanks to two major victories, while Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark and Rory McIlroy round out those to earn more than eight figures in 2024.

Scheffler and Collin Morikawa, who is winless on the season, were engaged in a two-horse race to the finish before Scheffler got to 30 under and took down the two-time major champion for his seventh PGA Tour victory of the season and the biggest payday in golf history.

Still, a top-five finish guaranteed players at least a $5 million bonus, while those inside the top 12 all saw seven figures next to their names. Everyone in the field earned at least a half million dollars for qualifying for the Tour Championship.

Let's take a look at the payout list for the 30 players who were in attendance at the 2024 Tour Championship. The other 120 players in the FedEx Cup standings will split the remaining $17.05 million.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Patrick Cantlay’s stunning playoff win over Bryson DeChambeau at the BMW Championship has ensured he will start the TOUR Championship as the top seed in the race for the FedExCup.

Cantlay outlasted DeChambeau to claim victory on the sixth playoff hole after earlier making a huge 21-foot birdie on the final hole of regulation to force extra holes. It came just a hole after he found the water off the tee on the 17th hole to seemingly kill off his hopes.

But DeChambeau’s putter let him down in the closing stretch and throughout the playoff as he missed multiple putts that could’ve closed the tournament. When Cantlay connected on the 18th green again from 17 feet on the sixth hole of sudden death, DeChambeau missed from 9 feet and it was over.

“The most important thing for next week is treating it like a regular tournament and trying to shoot just the lowest score you can shoot every day,” Cantlay said. “I think not getting caught up in the two strokes ahead or whatever it is is the best way to handle that situation.”

DeChambeau will settle for third place at 7 under, Jon Rahm will be another shot back and Cameron Smith rounds out the top five at 5 under.

The final 25 players at East Lake will be slotted in groups of five, with each pod a shot further back. Justin Thomas, Harris English, Abraham Ancer, Jordan Spieth and Sam Burns will all be 4 under. Collin Morikawa, Sungjae Im, Viktor Hovland, Louis Oosthuizen and defending FedExCup champion Dustin Johnson will start at 3 under.

The 2-under starters include two-time FedExCup winner Rory McIlroy, Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele, Jason Kokrak, Kevin Na and Brooks Koepka.

At 1 under are Corey Conners, Hideki Matsuyama, Stewart Cink, Joaquin Niemann and Scottie Scheffler.

And finally at even par will be Daniel Berger, Erik Van Rooyen, Sergio Garcia, Billy Horschel and Patrick Reed.

Veteran Sergio Garcia has no doubt grabbed the attention of European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington after battling his was into the TOUR Championship.

Garcia was one of just two players to force his way into the top 30 at the BMW, joining South African Erik van Rooyen who not long ago wasn’t even inside the top 125 of the FedExCup. He won the Barracuda Championship in the second-to-last week of the Regular Season and has finished in the top 7 of the first two Playoffs events.

Garcia, the all-time Ryder Cup points earner, closed with a 3-under 69 on Sunday at Caves Valley to move to T6 for the tournament, good enough to move him from 44th in the FedExCup to 28th.

“It's very exciting. Obviously after last week I put myself in a difficult spot but showed a lot of guts this week. Played some great golf,” Garcia said.

Considering the Spanish star made a disastrous double bogey on the drivable par-4 fifth hole when it took three shots to extricate himself from a greenside bunker, the surge home was certainly a clutch effort.

“To come back after what happened on 5 and not give up and keep at it and play as hard as I did those last three holes, the two up-and-downs I made on 16 and 18, they were very nice,” Garcia added. “Obviously I didn't have the greatest of lies (in the bunker). It was kind of like tiny bit downhill. I wanted to give myself another birdie and kind of keep at it, and it came out just a little bit too soft. Just hit the lip and came back.

“Then the next one I hit it and there was a pebble, and the ball just didn't come out. It happens. The good thing is that after that I started hitting some good shots, some nice putts…, and we're in East Lake, so it's great.”

Van Rooyen sat outside the top 125 in the FedExCup when he came through to win his first TOUR event at the Barracuda Championship in early August, moving him to 78th. He entered THE NORTHERN TRUST in 76th needing to jump inside the top 70 to survive and did just that with a seventh-place finish.

Then once again on the outside looking in at 45th entering the BMW Championship, van Rooyen was clutch on his way to finishing fifth with a 7-under 65 to close.

“It's a fantastic place to be. Obviously it's my first full year on the PGA TOUR, and it was a goal of mine to get there,” Van Rooyen said of his trip to East Lake. “Six weeks ago or so I wasn't even sniffing it. Just really proud of myself. It's probably the best of the best that make it to Atlanta, and really happy to be part of the group.”

McIlroy’s tilt at record third FedExCup still alive

Rory McIlroy started the BMW Championship in the 28th spot on the FedExCup list, not guaranteed a place at the TOUR Championship by any stretch.

But the 2016 and 2019 FedExCup champion will have a chance at a record third title after he finished fourth at the BMW Championship to move up to 16th in the points list.

In 2019, he won the Cup despite starting five shots behind. This time he will be eight back.

“All I wanted to do was get to East Lake next week, and it's nice that I've moved up a few spots, as well, and probably start a couple of shots closer to the leader,” McIlroy said.

Two in means two out

While Sergio Garcia and Erik Van Rooyen were cheering their efforts to get to East Lake, it wasn’t a great week for the players they replaced in Charley Hoffman and Max Homa.

Hoffman dropped from 29th to 32nd in the FedExCup after finishing T38 at Caves Valley while Homa dropped from 30th to 35th with his T63.

Im makes big jump

The biggest move inside the top 30 from the BMW Championship was former Rookie of the Year Sungjae Im.

Im’s third-place finish at Caves Valley shot him from 25th to 12th, up 13 places heading to East Lake.

Reed hangs on as Lee falls a shot short

Patrick Reed was unable to play the BMW Championship due to pneumonia which put his place at the TOUR Championship under threat.

In the end, Reed survived as the last man to East Lake when K.H. Lee fell just a shot short of the mark.

Lee finished in a tie for 12th at Caves Valley, his hopes dashed by a bogey on the 18th hole that came after a wild approach from the fairway that ended up in the native area right of the green and forced a penalty drop.

End of the road

The following players were officially eliminated from the season and finished in order from 31st to 70th in the FedExCup for season 2020-21.

K.H. Lee, Charley Hoffman, Alex Noren, Si Woo Kim, Max Homa, Hudson Swafford, Cam Davis, Kevin Kisner, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Brian Harman, Marc Leishman, Cameron Tringale, Harold Varner III, Shane Lowry, Lucas Glover, Matt Jones, Carlos Ortiz, Aaron Wise, Lee Westwood, Charl Schwartzel, Paul Casey, Sebastian Munoz, Tom Hoge, Branden Grace, Russell Henley, Cameron Champ, Maverick McNealy, Emiliano Grillo, Robert Streb, Jhonattan Vegas, Chris Kirk, Patton Kizzire, Kevin Streelman, Keith Mitchell, Harry Higgs, MacKenzie Hughes, Talor Gooch, Ryan Palmer, Phil Mickelson.
