private tour louvre night

The Louvre evening tour - Friday Night only

Louvre by night tour.

The magic of the Louvre is all about the art.

There is nowhere in the world where so many undeniable masterpieces live side by side, waiting for you to walk in and share a moment with them.

Unfortunately, this also means huge crowds.

A new Art experience

Why we recommend this night tour of the louvre.

Like any great museum, the Louvre draws in an enormous amount of visitors. Millions flock to this gorgeous building every year, and it’s delightful that so many people want to come and see all that it has to offer.

But if you are looking for a different kind of Louvre experience, one without the crowds, where you can spend more time with each piece, where there are fewer people just trying to snag a picture of the Mona Lisa, you need to visit the Louvre at night.

That’s why we’ve created the Louvre by Night tour. It includes all the great information and views of the original Louvre tour, but it takes place in the evening.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to see things up close. No rush. No fighting your way through a sea of people. Only you, your guide, and the art.

If this sounds like just the tour for you, reach out to me.

We can begin figuring out your Louvre by Night tour and craft the ultimate Paris art experience for you!

The details

6.pm louvre tour in the evening.

The evening tour of the Louvre is an hour and a half tour led by a certified guide with deep knowledge of the art and the history behind it.

You will see masterpieces like the Venus de Milo and Winged Victory. And because you’ll have an expert on hand, you can discover the stories and secret mysteries surrounding the works and how they got to the Louvre.

You will also see the jewel collection of the French monarchy, the Grande Gallery, the works of Leonardo da Vinci (including, of course, the Mona Lisa — only now without the crush of a crowd), ancient statuary, rare artifacts from the dawn of civilization, and more.

Because the museum is much less busy in the evening, you’ll get far more time with each piece, able to revel in the splendor of the work rather than fight your way to the next exhibit.

What Makes the Louvre Different at Night

Paris, the City of Lights, was made to be enjoyed at night. This is as true for its incredible art museums as its historic streets filled with cafes.

When you visit the Louvre in the evening, there is a certain je ne sais quoi about the experience that you do not get during the day.

For one, the crowds are not only smaller, they are made up almost exclusively of art lovers. People seem to be much calmer, more respectful. Everyone is tuned into the art around them, focused on the details, whispering to their friends in wonder.

With that more relaxed pace and tone, you can often have much more informative talks with your guide. There is no din to shout over, no throng of people to move aside for. This allows a much more profound connection to the art and the things you can learn about it.

Candle light to the Light Bulb

In the past centuries, before inventing the light bulb, sculptures and paintings were shown to the viewers in their natural light : Sunlight or candles were the only sources of light.

But, as we can't keep the marble sculptures, fragile paintings outside under the rain and open to vandalism, the Louvre museum decided to preserve the most precious pieces inside.

The Grand Gallerie by day is almost an open air passage. The Louvre adapted the elements of the architecture of the Museum to shed more natural light on the paintings and the sculptures inside of it : The Louvre has many open windows and transparent roofs that lets the sun light in the gallery rooms as if we were walking outside.

The feeling of intimacy

The evening atmosphere of the Louvre by Night brings in a reverence for the art, a feeling of intimacy with the pieces. It can seem, at times, as if this fortress — built almost 1000 years ago — was made just for you.

You walk through its wide aisles, up its grand staircase, and it is as if you’ve landed the ultimate inheritance.

The sculptures almost speak and move in the later hours, allowed to fully express themselves without so many eyes on them.

And once your tour is finished, and the images of the night begin to settle and find a place in your memory, you exit out into Paris — lit up in that special way that only this city can do.

You can go forward, finding the next adventure in your great French escape, filled with the beauty of the world’s greatest art museum.

It is the perfect way to end a day in the city. Afterwards, you can grab a coffee or a glass of wine and explore the night, or seek out your bed, ready to dream of all the things you’ve seen.

the Louvre on a Friday night

Dreaming of art, is dreaming of art possible.

It is not surprising, after getting exposed to an - almost - infinite collection of colorful paintings, not only on the walls of the Louvre but also on its ceilings, to enjoy nice dreams of art and paintings.

It seems appropriate to pull these dreams from an artwork that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of a night tour: perhaps the best example would be Cupid and Psyche (1817) by François-Édouard Picot.

1817 - Cupid and Psyche - by François-Édouard Picot

The painting is enormous, 2.33 meters (7.6 feet) high by 2.91 meters (9.5 feet) wide.

At that scale, the sumptuous details and overall emotion of the painting completely overcomes us. Standing there, especially in the evening when we have the chance to really let our senses feast, it is as if we become part of the moment between these two characters from Classical mythology.

The Story of Cupid and Psyche

The story comes from a tale about Cupid, the god of desire, and Psyche, the goddess of the soul.

Psyche was born a mortal, but her beauty was beyond what any mortal had ever achieved. Her features even matched those of Venus herself.

See Aphrodite in our Women tour in the Louvre .

This enraged the goddess of love, who sent her son Cupid (Eros) to use his arrow — which had the power to make anyone fall in love with anyone else — to bind Psyche to the most wretched person in all the world.

Always the dutiful son, Cupid rushed to Psyche’s bed where she slept. But as he was piercing her with his arrow, he was suddenly overcome by her beauty. She awoke, startling him, and he pierced himself with the same arrow. From then on, they fell madly in love.

But because she was a mortal and an enemy of Venus, Cupid had to come up with some trickery. He built a palace for Psyche, and had a marriage arranged between them — but his wife could never know she was married to a god. So he would only visit at night and leave in the morning.

Psyche loved these visits, but yearned to know what her new husband looked like. One night, she leaned over his body with a lamp to see his face. As she did this, a drop of oil from the lamp landed on Cupid’s shoulder. He awoke and disappeared into the night.

Eventually, Psyche underwent many trials to win the respect of her mother-in-law and become a goddess herself. In time, Cupid and Psyche were able to be a married couple.

This delightful tale is most well known for scenes of Cupid and Psyche in their bed as the wife and mysterious husband. And a particularly beloved moment in these visitations, as the painter Picot depicts in this painting, is Cupid leaving in the morning before being discovered.

Picot (1786 - 1868) was a French painter whose luminous work expands our understanding of the mythic. He created many masterpieces in his career, like Léda (1832) and two ceiling murals in the Louvre.

His work in some way mirrors his contemporaries, like Jacques-Louis David. Both Picot and David have an impeccable sense of composition, capturing a moment in the story that combines action and the fundamental relationship between the characters.

David was much more a neoclassicist focused on ennobling his subjects through big, muscula events (consider his 1784 work Oath of the Horatii, also at the Louvre).

See the painting : Napoleon's coronation by David

For Picot, his greatest achievements came at much quieter points. His poignant images of introspection and tenderness still benefit from the strong sense of composition, but they are able to relax into a noble silence.

It is for this reason that he was the perfect painter to depict this scene of Cupid departing Psyche as dawn breaks over the land.

The Power of the Painting

When we visit the Louvre at night, we go to sleep with the most awe inspiring artwork dancing in our heads — including Cupid and Psyche. Upon waking, we might think it was all a dream, a fantasy that couldn’t be real.

The art in this museum seems too incredible, too powerful. Surely, it couldn’t be more than a reverie.

Cupid and Psyche is a meditation on many things, and here we have discovered yet one more. Night is a time when we transition into a world of imagination, our senses opened to see beyond an image and into the world inside it. This might be the most important reason why the Louvre is so special to visit at night — because we are ready to embrace it on a much more profound level.

Most visitors get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the Louvre only to end up overcome by the immensity of a museum that displays 35,000 artworks within 9 miles of corridors. Art Journey's solution is to go beyond the same famous masterpieces everyone sees and to venture into the quiet areas of the museum to discover the hidden treasures of the Louvre . And to further go around crowds, another solution is to visit during the evening on Wednesday and Friday nights , for the late opening of the Louvre until 9 pm . With a private evening visit, in summer, the visit ends with the sunset, in winter, it starts at night... In past visitors' own words :

The evening tour of the Louvre was a highlight of our first trip to Paris. Our guide was friendly, open to our requests, and incredibly knowledgeable about the art and the art history of the works we viewed. It was fun and enlightening talking with him. We learned so much in just 4 hours! I just wanted to thank you again for a wonderful, very informative tour through The Louvre - and at night! It was just incredible to feel as if we had that beautiful, enormous place all to ourselves - thank you for the evening tour recommendation!!

Avoid Crowds While Discovering The Louvre At Night

There is a lot more to the Louvre than the Venus de Milo , Victory of Samothrace, and the Mona Lisa . All the famous masterpieces are displayed in one wing of the Louvre. Yet, with three wings and three floors, entire departments of the Louvre are often nearly empty, particularly during the late opening . Our private evening visit will bring you to the quieter corners of the Louvre. Visiting after-hours isn't the only way this private tour is unique. This is a genuine made-to-measure experience , where you are not restricted to a set list of famous artworks. What is on offer is the entire Louvre, all 35,000 artworks on display . You are invited to ask any artist, artwork, or department of the Louvre, any corner within 9 miles of corridors . Please ask in advance to ensure the gallery in question is visible.

I want you to know that your private night tour of the Louvre was an absolute highlight, way beyond our expectations and my wife and daughters are constantly talking about that night. As novices to the world of art, you managed to bring the history and significance of the artists showcased in the Louvre to life in the most interesting and informative way. Your guided tour was a special experience for everyone in our family, from the first-timers in our group to those who had seen the Louvre several times before. You were able to make sure that each person found it to be an intimate and memorable experience. You even kept it interesting for the kids.

Sculptures of the Louvre

The Louvre is not only filled with paintings but it also features many iconic sculptures. Of all the works in the Louvre, the Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus de Milo are some of the most admired. The life-size sculpture of the mythological Sleeping Hermaphroditus carved by Bernini is also an amazing piece of work. These incredible ancient sculptures only represent a fraction of the Louvre's Greek and Roman antiquities you'll get to explore and learn about with your private guide.

Mona Lisa's Smile

Why is Mona Lisa’s smile so mysterious? Is she happy or sad? Leonardo da Vinci’s famous portrait of Lisa Gherardini, titled Mona Lisa , is arguably the most famous painting in the world. The masterpiece also holds a Guinness World Record-breaking insurance policy for approximately $800,000,000! Our guide can't wait to share the stories behind the acclaimed painting, and the fascination with the woman it depicts. Leonardo da Vinci was a true genius who left behind a huge legacy in both science and art.

Renaissance Masters: Raphael, Leonardo Da Vinci, and more

The Mona Lisa is not Leonardo’s only work of art inside the Louvre, and your tour guide will show you more of da Vinci’s works as part of the Louvre’s Italian Renaissance collection.

Besides Leonardo da Vinci, the Louvre also contains works by Renaissance artist Botticelli, master of the 16th-century Venetian school Titian, and the grand scale artist Veronese. Raphael also has work featured throughout the Louvre, one being the famous painting depicting Saint George on a magnificent horse.

Famous French Art

Although the Louvre is filled with the works of many international artists, you'll also see some truly iconic French masterpieces—after all, you are in France! The Louvre offers opportunities to visit works by Jacques-Louis David, Napoleon's personal painter, and Eugène Delacroix. Delacroix's most famous piece, Liberty Leading The People , is one of France's most beloved paintings, depicting the 1830 French Revolution. It was also the inspiration for one of the world's most famous landmarks: the Statue of Liberty in New York.

A Glimpse of Royal France

Did you know that the Louvre is a former royal palace? With such a strong association to royalty, a visit to the Louvre is incomplete without seeing the crown jewels of France. The surviving French crown jewels are on display in the Louvre’s Galerie d'Apollon.

It was a tradition to have a new crown created for each coronation in France. With your guide's narration, it is easy to imagine the extravagance of the crowns created throughout history for each new king and queen.

At The Tour Guy, we put a huge amount of energy into all our tours, including our private Louvre tour. Exactly what I was hoping for- and more

I had come to the Louvre when I was young and felt overwhelmed and wandered aimlessly, so I wanted my family to have a better experience. Ed was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and patient and distilled our few hours into a coherent and memorable experience. He was able to engage at all of our family’s varied levels of prior knowledge. I highly recommend seeing the Louvre in this way.

Excellent guide and tour

I have a couple of kids that are history buffs and wanted to see the Louvre while we were i. France. Art history isn’t their main love, but they wanted to learn more. We were lucky to be paired with John, our tour guide. he gave us a 3+ hour tour that included the history of the palace, a very thorough history of the art in the building, including major pieces and some very interesting side pieces, and he was able to make everything exciting and interesting for two teenage boys. Kept them engaged by asking questions, providing antidote and stories, and setting a good pace. I would recommend this tour and ask for John as your guide.

Excellent Experience

Our guide, Will, was the perfect guide. Will has Art History knowledge of an expert. He was patient and kind with our disabilities. This could not have been a better experience. We were able to see so many beautiful pieces of ancient art. Highly recommend. Loved it.

We loved it. It was the perfect amount of time and the best way for our boys, ages 7 and 10 to experience the Louvre. Ivan was awesome- engaged with the kids and shared so much knowledge. He seems to love what he does and eager to teach others. My husband and I agreed this was well worth the money and are confident our boys would have been tired and bored in 30 mins if we didn’t have Ivan guiding us. – (Read more Reviews)

A Night at the Louvre: a private guided tour of the landmark exhibition, only un theatres !

29 June 2020

private tour louvre night

To prolong the 'Leonardo da Vinci" experience, The Louvre Museum and Pathé Live have partnered to release an exclusive filmed private tour of the landmark exhibition “ A Night at the Louvre: Leonardo da Vinci ”. Special screenings wil be organized from 16 September worldwide.

A private guided tour of the exhibition exclusive to cinemas

Filmed especially for the cinema, this visit is a unique opportunity to contemplate the most beautiful works of Leonardo da Vinci up close. It takes the viewer on a nocturnal stroll through the Louvre in the company of the exhibition’s curators, Vincent Delieuvin and Louis Frank, whose commentaries provide precious insight into Leonardo’s artistic practice and pictorial technique. This major and unprecedented retrospective devoted to the artist’s work in its totality demonstrates how Leonardo elevated painting above all other pursuits, and how his investigation of the world – the “science of painting” as he put it – was at the service of an art whose supreme ambition was to give life to his paintings.

Broadcast in 30 languages in more than 60 countries

This is the first time that the Louvre Museum will be featured in a documentary film screened exclusively in cinemas in more than 60 countries with translations into 30 languages. Four nights of filming and a team of 30 technicians went into the making of this film shot with 5K cameras especially for the cinema, under the direction of Pierre-Hubert Martin. The texts are written by Catherine Sauvat and Pierre-Hubert Martin, under the supervision of the joint curators. The narration has been entrusted to Coraly Zahonero, a member of France’s historic national theatre, the Comédie-Française.

A new event for school audiences

Teachers will be able to organise school screenings in nearby cinemas of their choice throughout the 2020/2021 school year. Educational materials relating to the exhibition will be available free of charge for teachers on the platform dedicated to the event  www.anightatthelouvre.film/education/ .These materials will provide them with keys to better understanding Leonardo da Vinci’s work and help them carry out activities with their pupils before and after the screening.

She kept them engaged, asking them questions throughout her presentation. Not only was she knowledgeable, she truly appreciated the beauty of the art she was sharing with us and the history of the Louvre itself. 3. Paris Louvre: 2-Hour Private Tour for Groups or Families

Whether you’re part of a small group or a happy family, this private Louvre tour is sure to leave you satisfied.

After all, it is uniquely designed to accommodate the needs of adults and kids alike since there is a special children’s guide on hand to help facilitate lots of fun activities.

“We had a great tour guide for our 2 hour “family” tour of the Louvre. There was a ton of traffic so we were running late but I was able to use the chat within the Get Your Guide app and someone was able to contact the local guide to let him know that we were on the way. Our guide led us to all of the major pieces while providing interesting facts in a pretty concise way. He wasn’t overly chatty but was happy to answer our questions. It was pretty crowded (and hot, not much air conditioning) so we kind of wanted to move through the rooms pretty quickly and I think the guide was able to read our body language so that was appreciated. He did the tour in English and it was very easy to communicate with him. I would recommend this for families with younger teens and up. My 15 year old enjoyed it and was interested but my 9 and 11 year olds were not very engaged.” Susan ( read more reviews now )

Additionally, you can save tons of time with skip-the-ticket-line access to the museum and a private guide who will escort you through a 650,000-square-foot museum with over 35,000 objects.

I mean, if you want to explore the Louvre on your own, it could take you over 9 months to see it all.

But, with this special tour , you’ll focus on 4-6 intriguing exhibits that will keep everyone entertained and asking questions.

Now, you’ll start with none other than the Mona Lisa herself as you move on to other masterpieces (Venus de Milo, Hermaphrodite, Liberte, etc.) that will leave your jaw perpetually on the floor.

4. Private Tour of the Louvre By Night

View of the glass pyramid in front of the Louvre all lit up in the evening during the best private tour of the Louvre

⭐️ Rating: 5.0/5.0 (20 Reviews) Price: $301.77 per person Duration: 3 hours 📍 Meeting Point: Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel Operator: Awesome Guide Details: Read more on Viator Now!

Real talk? I hate crowds but abosolutely love the Louvre.

So, to avoid the insane hordes and long lines that regularly inundate the Louvre during the day, I opted for this private Louvre by night tour instead.

Yes, it’s VERY expensive and definitely not within everyone’s budget. But, the tour is three hours long and starts at 6:30 pm.

Therefore, the daytime crowds are long gone and you kind of have time museum more to yourself. Plus, you get to enjoy priority access during this private tour of the Louvre .

So, skip the line and head right inside as you visit the Sully, Richelieu, and Denon departments of the museums with the amazing Beatrice. Yeah, she is a seriously rad guide who 100% knows her stuff.

Anway, the Sully wing is the place where you’ll find the museum’s oldest pieces and is where you can learn more about the art of the Middle Ages.

“Our guide Olga was amazing & would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Louvre! We had her all to ourselves for this tour. She is very knowledgeable about art history, the Louvre & made it a wonderful experience!” Merri ( read more reviews now )

In contrast, the Denon department is where you’ll see magnificent Greek statues, like the Venus de Milo and Victoire de Samothrace, as well as stunnning paintings in the Italian Gallery from Raphael, Da Vinci, Veronese, Caravaggio, and more.

Finally, you’ll end your tour by learning all about the Coronation of Napoleon. So, enoy David’s mammoth painting tells that tells about the Emperor’s coronation in Notre Dame.

All in all, I really enjoyed my experience and think this tour is a fantastic option if you hate crowds, like pirvate tours, and only have 24 hours in Paris .

And don’t worry. You’ll 100% get to see the Mona Lisa and anything else that is on your must-see list.

5. Paris: Louvre Museum Private Family Tour Designed for Kids

“Very nice tour with Clement from Breton. He adjusted completely to the young Norwegian tourist, Eva, 10 years old. He managed to lead us smoothly around despite of large crowds. He made this tour a most memorable and educating event for both the young Eva and the grandmother of 73. Thank you to Clement!” Kari ( read more reviews now )

Not gonna lie, the d’Orsay and the Louvre are two of my most favorite museums in Paris – if not the world.

So, why not combine the best private tour of the Louvre with a visit to the d’Orsay for a private tour that doubles as every museum lover’s dream in Paris?

See, you’ll enjoy two glorious hours at each museum and start the day off with pick up from your centrally located Parisian hotel.

Next, you’ll bypass long lines and spend two hours experiencing all that the Louvre has to offer with stops at the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and The Raft of the Medusa.

Along the way, you’ll listen to fun stories and hear all about the history behind the works of Rembrandt and Delacroix.

Just be sure to let your guide know what you want to see since this private Louvre tour is fully customizable.

“Sophie was an excellent guide. So knowledgeable! She made visiting the two museums so easy and helped us to understand art history much better. Our guide was especially helpful in the Louvre. It was very crowded and would have been overwhelming without Sophie. She made sure we saw the important items.” Anthony ( read more reviews now )

Afterward, you’ll have a bit of free time for lunch and can then head to a former train station (aka the d’Orsay) to see upwards of 4,000 works from the later half of the 19th century.

Therefore, expect to marvel at masterpieces from Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Gauguin and Rodin.

Additionally, because this tour is limited to just for four people, you’ll enjoy more personal attention during a more intimate experience.

  • Keith B Fabrizia was wonderful and very knowledgeable. Was great tour...
  • aparbhu98 Great tour with the guide having a wealth of knowledge about the paintings, artifacts and the history from which the paintings belonged. Highly recommend the tour if you do not want to roam the museum without knowledge and history and where to go and see the highlights. A lot to cover in a short time.
  • Janie L My husband and I had a 2 to 3 hour private tour of the Louvre with Lucia on 4/17/2017. She was spectacular! She was very knowledgeable about the history of the Louvre and she answered all of our questions. She went at our pace, not rushed, but not too slow either. We hit all of the highlights and she suggested a few things, based on what she could tell we were interested in. I highly recommend the "skip the line" tour, and I would make a special request for Lucia, she was great!
  • Sonia V We did a private tour with Bellen (sp?) of the Louvre. The tour was incredible and Bellen really gave us the framework for viewing art. We learned so much on the tour and the time flew by because we were so engrossed in the tour. I highly recommend booking a tour with Bellen.
  • Kelly C We had a fabulous 2-1/2 hour tour of the Louvre with Christina (not sure if I'm spelling it right). She fully engaged my elderly parents as well as my teenage daughter. She was amazing -- so knowledgeable and so interesting. She did a great job of navigating the crowds and moving us along. I didn't want it to end!

Tour Itinerary:

Let’s start our Paris tour in one of the most beautiful squares. Place de la Concorde is the 2 nd largest square in France. All its elements make harmonic and picturesque scene. In the center of the square you will see Egyptian obelisk of Luxor which is almost 3500 years old and was a gift from Egyptian authorities to France. The obelisk is surrounded by two huge fountains made of marble and gold, and decorated with majestic statues.

The most significant buildings here are too luxurious Hotel de Crillon and French Naval Ministry both built in pure classicism style. During French revolution the square was a place for public executions. King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Robespierre were executed here. The square took its name to signalize the end of revolutionary terror in 1795.

Place de la Concorde is the beginning of the legendary Champs Elysees. This Paris avenue beats all records: the most expensive, the most fashionable, the most luxurious, the most elegant and the most famous. Almost 2 km of trendy restaurants, clubs, boutiques of world-known brands, offices of big international companies. Champs Elysees is a symbol of prestigious life. No matter how much money you will spend there – this place will not leave you indifferent. It has unique Parisian charm which you can feel only here.

If you are looking for famous monuments you will find a lot here: Elysees Palace with presidential residence, Grand Palais which is the world cultural center and Petite Palais with a great collection of fine arts.

After walking the most wonderful street it’s time to remember some historical events. Champs Elysees will lead you to the greatest historical monument of Napoleon’s times. A great French Empire Napoleon wanted everybody to remember his victories, that’s how the idea to build the Triumphal Arch appeared in 1806. The monument looks majestic is the largest in the world: 50 m high and 25 m long.

To see amazing city views you need to go up to the top of Arch – we promise you will not regret! Wonderful Paris scenes with the best view of Champs Elysees – sounds tempting, isn’t it?

Trocadero quarter is located on a hill. It’s considered a “very French” area, here you will hear mostly French speech and see many locals. The first must-see place here is Trocadero square with Chaillot Palace built in neoclassicism style. Don’t expect to see a masterpiece of architecture: this Palace is popular due to large observation deck with extremely spectacular views of Eiffel Tower.

Time to take photos with the main French attraction! Taken from this point your photos will be as impressive as postcards. Another place in Trocadero to catch your attention is Trocadero Park with green area of 100 000 sq. m and the huge beautiful fountain. Trocadero is a perfect place to visit before you go closer to the Eiffel Tower.

No doubt that you have been waiting for this moment for a long time! The most exciting moment during any Paris tour. We cross Seine by Pont d’Iene and now we are standing right in front of the Eiffel Tower so we can see it in all its majesty. Breathtaking moment! Built for World Fair 1889, it wasn’t expected to become popular.

Who knew that years later this 320 m tall elegant iron structure would become the most recognizable building in the world! Not to see Eiffel Tower means not to visit Paris. Eiffel Tower should be seen both by day and by night with its fantastic illumination.

And now how about some rest in a lovely green park? After you saw the Eiffel Tower the best place you can go to is Champs de Mars. Located between the Tower and Military school it occupies a territory of 25 ha. What can you do here? Of course admire great views and take pictures with Eiffel Tower.

Local Parisians like to come to Champs de Mars for a picnic. You can enjoy spectacular scenes here at night. Champs de Mars is a hotspot for lots of events including concerts, national celebrations and exhibitions.

Les Invalides is a big complex consisting of many buildings. Founded in 17 th century, it meant to provide accommodation to soldiers who took part in wars and were disabled or poor. At those times House of Invalides could accommodate 4000 guests. Invalides was like “the city inside the city” with its own rules. Nowadays some veterans live here but it also attracts many tourists.

Why it’s so popular? Firstly, it’s a real pleasure to see these baroque buildings with golden ornaments. At night the view is even more impressive. Inside you can see great frescos and paintings. Visitors can come to museums, the most famous here is Museum of Army. And the highlight here is the tomb of Napoleon. Imagine how exciting it is to stay near the tomb of such a great historical person.

During our Paris tour you will see many bridges crossing Seine but this one will take a special place in your heart. Pont Alexandre III was built to honor the union of Russian Empire and France and became a piece of Russia in Paris. It is not just a bridge to cross the river: it is historical monument and a real masterpiece of architecture.

It is 160m long and along all the bridge there are beautiful lanterns lighting the bridge and reflecting at Seine. Pont Alexandre III has a plentiful ornamentation including marble and golden statues of fames, nymphs and winged horses. The best way to explore all details of bridge is to take a boat trip along Seine.

Start you day at the highest point of Paris - Montmartre hill. Climb the stairs instead of funicular to enjoy great city views. For centuries Montmartre has been a synonym of bohemian life, freedom and art. The atmosphere here is highly spellbinding. Montmartre is a favourite place for artists, musicians and other representatives of bohemia. For many years talented people were getting inspiration in this magical place.

Van Gogh, Picasso, Renoir, Degas… the list of famous people lived here is endless. Cozy cafes, flea markets, vintage shops, studios and (of course!) cabarets – you can find everything in Montmartre. Wander through lovely streets, listen to street musicians and take a cup of coffee in a local café – feel like a real Parisian bohemian.

Montmartre hill is 130 m high. And on the highest point the Incredible Sacre Coeur church rises above Paris. Here the whole city is on your fingertips! Built in 1914, it is one of the most significant churches in France. It dazzles with its beauty. The church is made of unique travertine stone which becomes whiter after contact with water.

You will also see many interesting things inside: the largest collection of mosaics in France, amazing stained glass windows, Grand organ and the crypt. Sacre-Coeur is surely a place to see and admire.

One of the most recognizable places in Paris is the intriguing Red Mill of Moulin Rouge cabaret. Opened in 1889, it immediately became popular among people of all classes, professions, nationalities. It’s the birthplace of French Cancan. The shows here are always spectacular so tickets should be booked in advance.

Moulin Rouge is an endless feast and amusement! Near Moulin Rouge you can find a unique mill in Paris – Moulin de la Galette built in 1622. Mouilin Rouge is located in Pigalle area which is known as Paris Red Light district.

National Opera (Palais Garnier)

Built in 1875, Paris Opera became one of the most significant and influential opera theatres in the world. It accommodates 2000 spectators. It is built in Beaux-arts style and standing out by its beauty. If you have enough time in Paris you simply must check out this place.

The majesty of Opera leaves everyone speechless: Grand Foyer, Grand Staircase with marble, gold and numerous paintings and Auditorium made in red and gold colors. Just inside Palais Garnier you can visit trendy Opera restaurant with stylish interior, delicious French cuisine and large terrace with city views.

From Palais Garnier we will walk along fashionable Rue de la Paix which is paradise for shopping lovers. This street leads to Place Vendome. In the center of this square you will see the column with statue of Napoleon in honor to his victories. But this square is famous not for historical events.

Place Vendome is the most elite and luxurious square in Paris. It’s world-known by first-class hotel Ritz where Princess Diana spend her last hours before the car accident in 1997. Many deluxe boutiques are located here. By the way, Place Vendome is the heart of the fashion world and the headquarters of Chanel fashion house.

Tuileries Park is one of the most popular attractions in Paris. The explanation is simple: this place is wonderful! Huge green area with straight alleys – excellent photo-ops everywhere! It’s a real masterpiece of landscape art. Since 16 th century it was a favourite place of kings and queens and nowadays it meets thousands of people every day.

Art-lovers will like the great collection of statues made by such masters as Rodin. There also two big beautiful ponds: the Bassin Octogonal and the Bassin Rond. Wherever you go in Tuiliries a great emotions are guaranteed. A nice addition here are scenic views of Louvre, Place de la Concorde, Tour Eiffel. If you are interested in photography and have enough time you will enjoy visiting Gallery of Jeu de Paume located in Tuileries.

Even if you are not fond of museums it would be a crime to be in Paris without seeing Louvre, the largest museum in the world. The collection of Louvre amazes with its variety – from ancient artifacts to contemporary art. The history of the building began in 1190 when it was founded as a fortress. After being a Royal Palace in 1793 it opened its doors to public. In 20 th century the stylish glass pyramid became an entrance to the museum. Louvre meets millions of tourists every year and keeps about 400 000 exhibits. Great, majestic, a real treasury of art – Louvre is must-see for everyone.

Finish your day in the most wonderful quarter of Paris. Enough words can’t be found to describe this magical place. Being a Jewish neighborhood Marais is multicultural, democratic and at the same time very stylish. Wander through the maze of narrow streets and scenic courtyards, visit numerous workshops and small galleries, taste French or international cuisine in a restaurant and just enjoy your life! Walk to Place des Vosges which is the oldest in Paris. One of notable places here is Ma Bourgogne bistro with typical French cuisine which is considered the best bistro in Paris.

It’s time to visit one of the most significant places from French history – Place de la Bastille. Right here the storming of Bastille prison (the first and the most important event of 1 st French Revolution) took place in 1789. The prison was removed by revolutionaries and nowadays you can only see the perimeter of Bastille paved with stones. In the center of the square the July column with the golden Statue of Liberty on the top is rising. It was built in honor of July revolution of 1830.

Another highlight here is Bastille Opera – a large contemporary construction built in 1989. This opera theatre is less famous than Palais Garnier. However, it is bigger (2700 seats) and has a conception of “opera for people”: more democratic in prices and in dress-code.

After walking along Boulevard Henri IV we will cross Seine by Pont de Sully and find ourselves in one of Seine islands – St Louis. This island is not very popular among tourists which makes it an ideal place to see a real Parisian life. This island was always considered to be aristocratic and elite. Nowadays rich Parisians still prefer to live here. The population of the island counts about 2460 inhabitants.

Picturesque streets, artists, cozy French cafes and quiet sophisticated atmosphere – it’s all about St Louis island. A significant place here is Hotel Lambert which was political salon and home for many famous people such as Balzac, Delacroix, Chopin. Nowadays it’s a private property owned by Prince of Qatar.

If you want to taste the most delicious ice-cream and sorbet – visit legendary Berthillion café which has been producing the best ice-cream for about 100 years.

Can you imagine that a small island of Seine with a little tribe would become home to a megapolis? Cite island is highly popular among tourists because you can see here many significant places. Must-see here is St Chapelle which was built in 1248 and now is an example of great gothic architecture and stained glass art.

Another interesting place is Palace of Justice with Conciergerie – the gloomy castle which for many years has been a prison. Here every detail tells you its history!

There is no person in the world who hasn’t heard about Notre-Dame. Since 1163 it has been one of the symbols of Paris and the most recognizable monuments. Its gothic architecture is really impressive: due to spiritual ornaments it looks like the cathedral it is going to rise above the city. The inside atmosphere is mystical and inspiring at the same time. You will see the Crown of Thorns inside, what makes this place a real treasury. Just in front of the cathedral you can find Point Zero – the place where all the roads in Paris start.

Latin Quarter is one the most atmospheric and unique areas of Paris. A lot of students, universities and schools, bookstores, cafes and bistros for all tastes. Feel like a real Parisian having lunch in Polidor bistro – the oldest cafe in Paris built in 1845.

Simply strolling around Latin Quarter will give you unforgettable feelings! Besides just walking and eating you can find many interesting places here. For example Pantheon were many famous people such as Victor Hugo are buried, Cluny museum with medieval artifacts, amazing St Severin and St Julien le Pauvre gothic churches.

No doubt that the main treasure of Latin Quarter is legendary Sorbonne. Founded in 1215, it is the first university in France. During all the times Sorbonne has been extremely popular among students from all over the world. Nowadays the situation didn’t change: every year it meets thousands of French and foreign students. Contemporary Sorbonne consists of 13 universities located in different parts of Paris.

In Latin Quarter you can see the oldest building – real Sorbonne and its church built in baroque style. You can enter the courtyard of this university and take a look at its everyday life.

Luxembourg gardens are located in the heart on Paris on the left bank of Seine. This fabulous place will amaze you at first sight. Its aesthetic appearance with lots of green plants, beautiful flowers, ponds, baroque fountains and sculptures will not leave anyone indifferent. Luxembourg Palace which is an example of great combination of baroque and renaissance is a must-see here.

A great variety of entertainment for both children and adults including horse riding, driving a toy sailboat in Grand Basin, riding a carousel will brighten up your time. Or you can visit numerous open-air exhibitions and concerts or just enjoy chilling atmosphere of calmness and happiness.

St Germain des Pres has a reputation of the “most French” area in Paris. This quarter is the best place for wandering through lovely streets, shopping and eating. Buy local cheese and wine at a local food market or just relax in one the numerous cafes. One of the most famous places here is Café de Flore which was a meeting point for writers and philosophers in 20 th century.

Many celebrities visit this place, who knows who you can meet there? For history lovers a must-see here is St Germain des Pres Church which is the oldest in France and remains the spirit of many centuries of its history.
