India is home to thousands of grand temples, tombs, mosques, monuments, forts, palaces, and historic landmarks. Here are several to see when you travel to India, with your group, or during your free time on our  India: Delhi, Agra & Jaipur tour .

• Taj Mahal.  Arguably India’s most iconic landmark, this massive, white-marble mausoleum was built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife.
• Jaipur City Palace.  Situated in central Jaipur (a.k.a. “The Pink City”), this architectural marvel was built by, and as a residence for, Sawai Jai Singh, who’s credited with founding the city.
• Hawa Mahal.  This eye-popping, pink palace (its name means “palace of breeze”) in Jaipur was built in 1799 as an extension to the Royal City Palace of Jaipur. There, royal ladies observing pardah, or the practice of seclusion from public observation, could watch processions and activities on the street without being seen by the public.
• Amber Fort.  This 16th-century palace, located near Jaipur in Rajasthan, is one of the most-visited forts in India. It was the residence of Rajput rulers.
• Humayun’s Tomb . Built in Delhi in the 16th century, this grand, garden mausoleum and UNESCO World Heritage Site inspired several major architectural innovations, including the Taj Mahal.
• Ranthambore National Park.  This national park in Northern India is home to a reserve for Bengal tigers, which visitors on tours of India can watch for while on safari.
• India Gate.  This sandstone arch towers nearly 140 feet above the Rajpath area of New Delhi and is a monument to Undivided British Army soldiers who died during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War of 1919.
• National Gandhi Museum.  On a visit to this cultural site in Delhi, travelers on tours of India can see books, furnishings, and other items that belonged to the famed Indian figure, and learn more about his life from exhibitions, films, and other features.

Regardless of when you visit India, a few items will be essential additions to your suitcase. They include:

• Comfortable walking shoes.  To keep your feet happy and protected whether you’re climbing stairs, walking along busy streets, or wandering through a museum.
• A small tote bag or crossbody bag.  India tours include visits to sites that can be quite crowded, and a small bag will keep your daily essentials close by and within easy reach.
• Sun protection.  The sun in India can be very strong, so travelers on India trips should bring hats, sunglasses, and SPF.
• Light layers.  These will come in handy whether you use them to ward off a late-night chill or to cover your head and shoulders when visiting mosques, temples, and other religious sites.
• Loose, lightweight clothing.  Temperatures can soar in India, and light, loose clothes will help keep you cool.  
• Over-the-counter remedies.  Delhi Belly isn’t just a myth. It can happen, and when it does, it pays to be prepared with Imodium or other digestive troubleshooters. Air quality can be lacking in parts of India, so consider bringing along eyedrops, and an inhaler if you use one.

Packed with flavor from spices, Indian food is some of the most delicious on the planet if you ask us. Traditional dishes and specialties vary depending on where you travel, but here are a few dishes to try on trips to India when you see them.

• Daal.  These dried, split pulses, or lentils, are often simmered with ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, and spices, but different versions are served throughout the country.  
• Butter chicken.  Equal parts creamy, savory, and tart, this popular Indian dish consists of chicken that’s cooked in a sauce of butter, cream, and tomato. It’s often eaten over basmati rice.
• Naan.  This flat bread, common in the north, is baked inside a piping-hot clay oven and is the perfect vessel for sopping up flavorful sauces.
• Bhel puri.  A popular street food in Mumbai, this dish consists of a mixture of crispy puffed rice, tangy chutneys, fresh herbs, ground spices, roasted peanuts, and other texture-rich ingredients.
• Biryani.  Regional versions of this mixed rice dish are made with spices, meat, eggs, vegetables, nuts, dried fruit, and potatoes.
• Aloo gobhi.  Earthy and fragrant, this popular vegetarian dish consists of tender cauliflower and potatoes cooked together in a masala (think gravy or sauce) of turmeric, cumin seeds, garlic, and other ingredients.   
• Gulab jamun.  These crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside fritters are soaked in sweet syrup—the perfect treat at the end of a savory, spicy meal.

And you’re just as likely to come across skyscrapers and glitzy malls as you are hilltop villages and tea plantations. Delhi  and  Mumbai  are wonderful places to see how the old and new intertwine.

Meaning ‘Land of Kings’, the landscape of Rajasthan in the north is littered with magnificent forts and palaces. From the state capital of Jaipur  and the Blue City of  Jodhpur  to the serene lakes of  Udaipur  and the dusty dunes of the Thar desert, Rajasthan is one of the most culturally rich pockets of India. The north is also home to the holy cities of  Varanasi ,  Rishikesh  and  Amritsar . Further north still also offers some of the world’s best hiking, with the mighty peaks of the Himalayas in Kumaon  and  Ladakh .

Head south and catch your breath for a moment in Kerala. Affectionately known as God’s Own Country, it’s a verdant state of emerald waterways and coconut groves, and home to the town of Fort Cochin .

And then there’s the wildlife.  Ranthambore ,  Bandhavgarh  and  Kanha  are home to some of the country’s highest tiger populations while the luxurious and remote  JAWAI  camp is the best place to catch a glimpse of the beautiful and elusive leopard.

Agra and the Taj Mahal

The ultimate symbol of eternal love, the Taj Mahal is one of India’s most memorable and emotive sights.

The largest city in Punjab and the centre of the Sikh faith, Amritsar is a fascinating and tangibly spiritual destination.

Bandhavgarh

In the east of the vast Madhya Pradesh state, Bandhavgarh is one of India’s most popular national parks and hosts what is thought to be the highest density of Bengal tiger in the country.

Bangalore, otherwise known as Bengaluru, is a cosmopolitan city that boasts lovely green spaces and striking Victorian-era architecture and is a great place for dining, nights out and shopping.

Chandigarh is the capital of both of Haryana and Punjab states, located on their borders yet technically within neither, in the green foothills of the Sivalik mountain range.

India’s capital captures the past, lives in the present and looks to the future in a way that few other cities do. Perhaps daunting at first sight, a little exploring soon reveals a rich, diverse and fascinating culture.

Fort Cochin

Nestled on the northwest tip of Cochin’s peninsula, Fort Cochin is a quaint coastal region with strong links to its colonial history.

Gir Forest National Park

Gir National Park is a vitally important protected forest that is home to the last remaining wild population of the Asiatic lion in the world, as well as prolific birdlife and other animals.

The capital of Rajasthan and its largest city, Jaipur is at once the state’s commercial hub and one of its most fascinating cultural destinations. The pace of life here is fast, but take your time and in this somewhat frantic city you’ll find some of India’s most majestic palaces and atmospheric relics.

Rajasthan’s second largest city, historic Jodhpur may just be its most photogenic. Labyrinthine streets, bustling spice bazaars and flitting multihued saris make for an overwhelmingly vibrant sight at every turn.

Kanha Tiger Reserve

Kanha Tiger Reserve is the largest national park in Madhya Pradesh. Right in the heart of central India, this sprawling protected is regarded as one of the best parks in the country for its safari.

With the Western Ghats towering to the east and the Arabian Sea flowing out from the west, Kerala is one of India‘s most verdant and beautiful states. Crisscrossing this green lung are the backwaters that snake their way through towns and villages.

Equidistant between Agra and Varanasi in the state of Madhya Pradesh, is the small town of Khajuraho. Its remote location means it could easily slip under the radar of travellers keen to get to India’s more well-known cities, were it not for its remarkable collection of temples, famous for their erotic carvings.

Nestled in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir is one of India’s most remote and sparsley populated areas. Ladakh, often referred to as Little Tibet, is a land of snowcapped mountains, vast barren plateaus and deep turquoise lakes.

Marari Beach

Marari – short for Mararikulum – is a serene palm-fringed beach village in the Alleppey district of Kerela, easily reached from Cochin and close to Vembanad Lake and the Keralan backwaters.

The capital of Maharashtra and India’s economic powerhouse, Mumbai is a huge metropolis home to over 22 million people. A melting pot of cultures, the affectionately named City of Dreams envelops all who come in a cloud of colour and sound, its energy undeniably contagious.

Nestled in the mighty Western Ghats and surrounded by sprawling tea plantations is the hill station of Munnar. A favoured summer retreat of the British who were lured by the cool mountain air, the surrounding mountains and valleys are one of India’s most picture-perfect destinations.

Panna National Park

In the Vindhyan mountain range in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, lies Panna National Park. The River Ken winds its way through a vast expanse of plateaus, gorges and thick forest giving life to a variety of animal and plant life.

Ranthambore National Park is perhaps the most famous place to spot wild tigers in India – and for good reason.

In the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, Rishikesh straddles the Ganges, linked by suspension bridges and flanked by the green foothills of the Himalayas.

Away from Rajasthan’s thronging historic cities, this vast state – India’s largest – is peppered with traditional villages, looked over by fortresses in the rugged mountains, and awash with the sands of the baking Thar desert.

The pedestrianised centre is wonderful to explore on foot, despite the topography, and there are a charming collection of bustling bazaars to be found off the winding main street, the Mall, which follows the spine of the ridge.

The little known region of Kumaon is one of two divisions in the northern hill state of Uttarakhand. Bordered by Tibet to the north and Nepal to the east, this is a land of magnificent snow-capped peaks, verdant forest and alpine meadows.

Certainly one of the most scenic cities in Rajasthan, and perhaps in all India, this unmatched setting along with Udaipur’s rich history and culture make it a must-see.

An ancient settlement on the banks of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi is India’s spiritual capital and important among numerous faiths.

Arrive Mumbai

You will be assisted at Mumbai airport and transferred to your luxurious hotel in Mumbai i.e. J.W. Marriott-situated right at famous Juhu Beach. Remaining time is at leisure till next morning.

Visit the Elephanta Caves in the morning (a UNESCO world heritage site). The Elephanta Caves are situated on the other side of the bay and can only be accessed by a steamer or boat that operates according to precise timings and tides in the ocean. An escorted tour of these beautiful caves dedicated to Hindu Mythological Gods will be conducted. Return back to your hotel and have time to visit the Spa at the Hotel run by Quan Spa.

Mumbai – Fly to Udaipur

Morning you will be transferred to Mumbai airport to board a flight to Udaipur. Upon arrival you will be received and escorted to your hotel The Oberoi Udai Vilas.  In the evening enjoy a boat ride on Lake Pichola for an hour and visit the Jag Mandir Palace.

Morning proceed for the sightseeing tour of Udaipur including City Palace, Folk Art Museum, Jagdish Temple, and Sahelion ki Bari. Rest of the day is at leisure. You may have Spa session which is managed by Banyan Tree Spas. Enjoy the luxurious rejuvenation therapies on a truly royal scale at The Oberoi Spa

Udaipur – Jodhpur

You will be escorted to the airport after breakfast to board a morning flight to Jodhpur. At Jodhpur airport, you will be met and moved to the luxurious The Umaid Bahwan Palace Hotel.

The city of Jodhpur serves as the entry point to the Thar Desert. The city's many unique features include red sandstone houses, the Merangarh Fort, and the Umaid Bhawan Palace, which are so imposing and strategically located that they can be seen from every corner of the city and from afar.

The remainder of the day is yours to explore the Palace Gardens, Museum, and Jiva Spa.

Today you have the opportunity to visit Mehrangarh Fort, one of Rajasthan's most imposing forts, which is situated on a 37-meter-high sandstone hill and was designed by Rao Jodha in 1459. The Fort Museum's exhibit is one of the finest and most professionally run.

Rest of the day is free for Spa activities at Jiva spa.

Jodhpur – Jaipur

Driver straight to India's pink capital, Jaipur, in the morning. Check into the Taj Rambagh Palace upon arrival. You will be taken on a short tour of the Old City in the afternoon, where you will visit the City Palace Museum and the Stone Observatory. The remainder of the evening is open for shopping or a stroll around the Old City.

Spend the night at the hotel.

Jaipur (Elephant ride)

In the morning, ride an elephant to the Amber Fort. You may also visit the monkey temple during the day. Stay in your palace hotel for the night.

Jaipur – Agra

Drive to Agra in the morning, stopping along the way to see Fatehpur Sikri, a beautiful and abandoned mediaeval city founded by Akbar the Great in the 16th century. Due to a lack of water, it is thought that Akbar abandoned this lovely red sandstone city. Check into the Oberoi Amar Vilas Hotel when you arrive in Agra. Visit the Red Fort later in the day.

The rest of the evening is free for you to relax and enjoy the Oberoi Spas.

Agra - Delhi

In the morning, take a sightseeing tour of the Taj Mahal, perhaps the most magnificent monument of love and the world's most photogenic structure. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal for his beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal.

Drive to Delhi later in the afternoon and check into the Imperial hotel.

Dehradun - Ananda - Delhi

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Delhi airport to board a flight to Deharadun, from where you will be driven up into the hills to Narendra Nagar, where the former rulers' palace has been transformed into one of the country's first spa hotels, dubbed "Ananda in the Himalayas."

Ayurveda is an important aspect of Ananda's wellness programme for its guests. The Ayurveda experience has been built with the individual's ability to cure, cleanse, relax, and revitalise in mind, from massages and specialised diet plans to accomplish personal goals to more rigorous lifestyle transformations.

Day is free for Spa activities. Stay overnight in your spa hotel.

Ananda - Dehradun - Delhi

After breakfast drive back to Dehradun and board a direct flight to Delhi. Upon arrival you will be received & escorted to you hotel The Imperial Hotel Delhi. Remaining day is free to relax and get ready for your flight back home.

Delhi - Fly out

Morning after breakfast you will be transferred to Delhi international for your flight back home. Tour Ends.
