Manchester City India:  English Premier League giants Manchester City are likely to tour India for their 2023–24 preseason tour. This could be a landmark occasion for Indian football. It is not common for a European club to visit the sub-continent for their pre-season. They usually choose to visit the United States, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, or Australia. With the legendary club deciding to choose India, it shows the level of interest of the EPL clubs in the country. Follow Premier League LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Manchester City has looked into the commercial opportunities in India following the success of their subsidiary club, Mumbai City FC. Mumbai City won their first Indian Super League title in 2020-21 and are currently seven points clear at the top thanks to a record-breaking 16-match unbeaten streak.

The Cityzens are wary about the weather during the time they would like to visit. The players and staff are not used to the sub-continent’s weather. They are aware, however, that any other issues will be offset by potential commercial inroads. The Indian Super League is among the fastest-growing leagues in the world, and the nation’s interest in European football is also on the rise.

In January, Man City partnered with Jio to deepen its ties to India. Rise Worldwide, India’s largest sports and entertainment firm, coordinated the partnership. City’s trip to the subcontinent will most likely consist of just one game rather than a full tour.

We are pleased to announce our new regional partnership with @reliancejio , India’s leading digital services brand, who will become our Official Mobile Communications Network Partner in India 🇮🇳 All of the details here ⤵️ googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-9031318-2');}); — Manchester City (@ManCity) January 5, 2023

Instead of playing against Mumbai City FC, Man City could face an all-star XI from the Indian Super League. That would increase the audience base and attract more people to watch the game.

Manchester City's Premier League trophy, the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League trophy and the UEFA Super Cup in Kochi

Manchester City kicked off their Treble Trophy in India yesterday at Kochi.

English professional football club Manchester City FC on Friday kicked off their Treble Trophy Tour in India at Kochi.

The four coveted trophies — the Premier League trophy, the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League trophy and the UEFA Super Cup — were brought to Kochi and was accompanied by Manchester City legend Nedum Onuoha.

The trophies will now make their way to Mumbai, which is the home of Manchester City’s sister Mumbai City FC, which is owned by City Football Group (CFG).

Onuoha, who spoke to the media during an interaction, said that Manchester City FC was going through its best time. He lauded coach, Josep “Pep” Guardiola Sala and said the team has reached its zenith by bagging the four trophies under him.

Meanwhile, the English football giants yesterday put up an image of Kerala’s sprawling Vembanad Lake on its social media handles as the backdrop for the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League trophies and the latest Super Cup won by the club.

On the eve of displaying the trophies for football buffs to take photographs with, the 143-year-old club had posted the picture of the four trophies lined up against the evening sky beyond the horizon even as a passenger boat moves past close-by.

“The sun sets of Vembanad Lake in Kochi #TrebleTrophyTour,” the club had posted on social media platform X, with the image.

“It is really exciting that a prominent football club of the world is coming to Kerala with the coveted trophies they won recently. Kerala can be really proud that Manchester City greatly appreciates the stunning beauty of Kerala and is unveiling it before the whole world,” Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas said in a statement.

Just as it’s known for its unparalleled natural beauty, Kerala is also reputed for its love of football, Riyas said adding that the football club’s social media promotion of Vembanad Lake is yet another instance of Kerala being marked firmly on the world tourism map.

“This reflects the big reputation our state enjoys in the West and other countries across the globe,” he added.

The trophies will now make their way to the city of Mumbai, which is the home of Manchester City’s sister club from the City Football Group (CFG) club, Mumbai City FC.

Three weeks ago, Manchester City had wished Keralites across the world ‘Happy Onam’ over social media by displaying the greetings in Malayalam. Expectedly, the Instagram post went viral.

That was on August 31, when the image focused on superstar Erling Haaland in the Club’s blue jersey biting into a fried pappadam, while the background showed two houseboats lined up close to a green plot of land defined by coconut trees.

Earlier, football powerhouse Chelsea FC made a virtual tour of Alappuzha, praising the beauty of the state’s backwater paradise.

“The beauty of Kerala! The Blues visit the scenic backwater of Alleppey as part of the virtual tour,” ran the caption of an image posted on March 20.

Earlier this year, Kerala’s iconic snake boat race had been featured prominently by the Wimbledon Tennis Championship as a poster on its digital platforms during the latest edition of the revered tourney.

The four trophies that comprised the Cityzens’ first-ever treble win were presented on the gorgeous banks of Kochi’s Vembanad Lake, which is India’s longest lake and is well-known for hosting sporting events.

It is India’s longest lake and is well-known for staging the Nehru Trophy Boat Race. The trophies will now be transported to Mumbai, the home of Manchester City’s City Football Group (CFG) sister club, Mumbai City FC.

Manchester City became the first English team to win the triple since 1999, following archrival Manchester United. The Blues rallied from behind to defeat Arsenal and win their third Premier League title in a row.

Manchester City’s Treble Trophy Tour becomes prospect to enhance football in India

The trophies also arrived at Escobar in Bandra West and Mumbai fans swarmed to see the four awards and interact with the travelling Man City legend, Nedum Onuoha.

The  Premier League  (PL) defending champions and treble winners,  Manchester City ‘s Treble Trophy Tour in India was commemorated in Kochi and Mumbai, which included the prestigious trophies of the Premier League, the FA Cup , the UEFA Champions League , and the UEFA Super Cup . The tour also had the presence of the Manchester City legend, Nedum Onuoha.

The Treble Trophy Tour’s India leg began on September 22 in Kochi and then moved on to Mumbai.

In the ‘City of Dreams’, Manchester City had a perfect chance to celebrate the vibrant culture of the city through the Ganpati festival in Maharashtra when the four trophies were exhibited in the vicinity of the famous G.S.B. Sarvajanik Ganeshotsava Samiti at the Shree Ram Mandir Wadala in Mumbai.

The coveted championship trophies then travelled to the Mumbai City FC  (MCFC) office in the city to symbolize the close ties among the several teams that make up the City Football Group  (CFG) family. The trophies arrived at Escobar in Bandra West later in the day, when Mumbai fans swarmed to see the four awards and interact with the travelling City legend.

Nedum Onuoha, who appeared in 95 matches for the club, travelled to India as a community ambassador, much like Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink , who visited Mumbai a few months ago with Chelsea FC .

These tours to India have become one of the major sightings for local fans which then majorly promotes football thus encouraging the nation to be vested in their domestic competitions of the sport. The upcoming AFC Champions League match between MCFC and Al Hihal , which will feature Neymar Jr. , is one possible big occurrence in this context. People will swarm in to witness Neymar play, who will then see our Indian footballers and may become accustomed to seeing them more frequently in the future. People will converge and fill the 55,000-capacity D.Y. Patil stadium, which will not only gain profits for the people organizing it locally but will additionally contribute to taking football in India to new heights.

Coming back to the event, SportsMint Media  had the honour of speaking to Nedum Onuoha, in which we asked him about the development of football in India and “How investors may be lured into investing in Indian football ?

“I think that’s a good question and I think ultimately every investor sees something different, every investor might want to buy into one thing. Maybe someone wants to buy for grassroots, maybe somebody sees the tens of thousands of people that watch the games or some might want to see their brand shown up on the sides. Some might also see a potential talent in the area where they live and would love to see one day that player playing in one of the biggest leagues in the world. Think of that moment, when all of a sudden some of the best players in the world are from South Asia that are playing in the Premier League.

“ What difference that could make if you ended up being one of the people who helped create a legacy, something that will last for far beyond your years on this earth? So, it would depend on whoever the investor is but I think the bigger picture is if you have the vision to be able to see a positive future for the people of this country and those who are playing football. The potential is there because India has the numbers and can the nation turn that into the pool of talent? Because from the moment you see one, you’ll see many.”

Mumbai,  28  September 2023:  The commemoration of Manchester City’s Treble Trophy Tour in India visited the cities of Kochi and Mumbai earlier this month as the four highly coveted trophies- the Premier League Trophy, The FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League Trophy and the UEFA Super Cup were present in the cities along with Manchester City Legend, Nedum Onuoha.  The India leg of the Treble Trophy Tour kicked-off in Kochi on 22nd September, where the four pieces of silverware displayed on the scenic banks of the Vembanad Lake, the longest lake in India which is renowned for hosting the Nehru Trophy Boat Race.  Subsequently, the trophies were displayed at the Lulu Atrium Mall in the city on 23rd September, during the screening of Manchester City’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest which the reigning Premier League champions won 2-0. At the screening, the Indian fans from the football crazy city of Kochi got the rare chance to see the four trophies in person and greeted the silverware with unrelenting cheers. The fans in Kochi also got a golden opportunity to interact with Manchester City Legend, Nedum Onuoha who was ecstatic at seeing the tremendous support and adoration the fans showcased at the venue. Manchester City Treble Trophy Tour reached the ‘City of Dreams’, Mumbai. The four highly esteemed pieces of silverware, the Premier League trophy, the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League trophy, and the UEFA Super Cup made their way to the city of Mumbai which has one of the most diverse football fanbases in the nation following the success of the Kochi leg on the 24th of September. The four trophies that constitute the Cityzens’ first-ever treble success were displayed in front of the iconic G.S.B. Sarvajanik Ganeshotsava Samiti at the Shree Ram Mandir Wadala in Mumbai, providing the perfect opportunity for Manchester City to embrace the rich culture of the city during the ongoing Ganpati festival in Maharashtra, which is revered to be the biggest celebration in the city and the state. From there the trophies made their way to the Mumbai City FC office in the city to signify the strong connection between the various clubs’ part of the City Football Group (CFG) family. Later in the day the trophies made their way to Escobar in Bandra West, where the fans in Mumbai flocked to catch a glimpse of the four trophies and interact with the travelling Manchester City Legend. On the final day, the trophies spent the afternoon at a Cityzens Giving project in the Bandra suburb, where Manchester City is working with OSCAR Foundation to support children from underserved communities through its football and life skills education programme.  Over 75 participants from the programme attended this special community football festival, which was led by 15 of the project’s inspiring Young Leaders who have benefitted from football leadership training from Manchester City coaches since 2020.   During the event, Nedum Onuoha shared lessons on leadership with the Young Leaders, and participated in fun, educational football activities with the local children before posing for photos with all those in attendance.   Earlier in the day, Onuoha surprised Zoya, an inspirational young leader and Man City super fan, by taking the trophies to her home in Mumbai.  Reflecting on the experience, Onuoha said: “Zoya was so stunned when she saw me and then when the Champions League trophy was behind me it was obviously an incredibly special moment for her. People like Zoya and the work she does in her community are invaluable. As a club we were delighted to express our gratitude for her efforts with a truly special surprise.”  Zoya has been a young leader at the Cityzens Giving project since its inception in 2020 and serves as a role model for the next generation, in particular inspiring young girls in her community to break down barriers to pursue sport and education.   Speaking about the surprise, Zoya said: “I feel overwhelmed and speechless. To see the trophies lined up in my living room was something I couldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams. I feel so grateful to have experienced this moment with my family.” Sharing his overall thoughts on the India leg of the Treble Torphy Tour and the special memories made, Nedum Onuoha who came through the Cityzens’ youth system back in 2004 said: “When Manchester City’s admirers in India saw the trophies in person, it was clear that their passion for the club had only strengthened with our recent success. I am incredibly appreciative of our Indian supporters who made me feel so welcome and I hope they enjoyed celebrating our record-breaking season together at the various events as one City family.” The Manchester City Treble Trophy Tour will now head to Indonesia where the tour will start in Jakarta on the 28th of September 2023.

Manchester City’s 2024/25 pre-season tour location revealed

Article image:Manchester City’s 2024/25 pre-season tour location revealed

The destination for Manchester City’s 2024/25 pre-season tour this summer has been revealed in a new report from The Athletic this week.

The development follows on from Manchester City’s hugely successful tour of far-east Asia, when the newly-crowned Treble winners took part in warm-up matches in Japan and South Korea against Yokohama F. Marinos, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid.

OneFootball Videos

Officials within the Etihad Stadium capitalised on Manchester City’s hugely successful and continuously expanding market in that corner of the globe, rewarding their following in Asia with watching the talents that one the club their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.

While the ongoing 2023/24 campaign may have only reached the halfway point, and City still focussed on securing another Treble of silverware, preparations for the pre-season tour of this summer are well underway.

According to the information of The Athletic’s Adam Crafton , Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City  squad are due to travel to the USA this summer for their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

It is further detailed that City officials are in dialogue with their counterparts from Chelsea regarding the possibility of playing an all-Premier League friendly against one another while in the U.S.

Manchester City visited the United States only recently, playing two matches against Club America and Bayern Munich in Houston and Green Bay respectively ahead of the Treble-winning campaign of 2022/23.

Those fixtures meant it was Manchester City’s American community that had the first sighting of Erling Haaland in the Sky Blue of the club, after the Norwegian superstar completed a blockbuster move from Borussia Dortmund just weeks prior.

There remains the possibility that US supporters could have a repeat this time around, with Manchester City officials expected to be busy in the upcoming summer transfer window refreshing Pep Guardiola’s star-studded first-team playing squad.

Manchester City beat Chelsea in their final pre-season friendly of their tour, thanks to a clinical Erling Haaland hat-trick.

City were handed a two-goal lead within five minutes - first when Jack Grealish intercepted a loose ball in the area to set up Haaland, who won and converted a penalty to the delight of the fans in the stadium.

Seconds after the restart, Chelsea's Moises Caicedo passed straight to Haaland and he made no mistake with the finish past Robert Sanchez. Stefan Ortega avoided a mistake of his own when Christopher Nkunku lobbed wide after he gave the ball away, but City were largely in control after their early head-start.

It was three when Oscar Bobb was fed by James McAtee to score with a smart finish inside the box. Just like the first-half goals, City were gifted a second within a minute - McAtee getting another assist in quick succession for Haaland to wrap up his hat-trick.

Raheem Sterling got one back against his former club before Noni Madueke added a second in the closing minutes, but it was City who left the USA with a belated win and a morale-boosting performance.

This is how MEN Sport rated the City players at the Ohio Stadium:

Stefan Ortega

One good save to preserve a clean sheet in the first half, but was lucky not to concede when he passed straight to Nkunku but the lob dropped just wide. 6

Another steady, classy performance at right-back should lock him in for that position at Wembley. Kyle Walker can have as long as he needs to build up fitness. 7

Kalvin Phillips

Once again, a solid performance at centre-back. If City didn't have so many players in that position, he might have done enough to stake a claim for a position-change, but he's probably only confirmed that he doesn't have a future in midfield. In isolation, a good game. 7

Josko Gvardiol

One good block in the first half to stop a shot, and a solid outing in general. He said on Friday that he feels fit and ready for the new season, with this performance backing that up. 6

Josh Wilson-Esbrand

Forced off with injury at the break, but a decent game before that. Beaten once by Nkunku but fairly solid otherwise. 6

Mateo Kovacic

City just look better when he plays. Some nice touches, good positioning and one or two of those driving runs that are becoming a bit of a trademark. In Rodri's absence, Kovacic's quick acclimatisation is welcome. 7

Nico O'Reilly

Built on his goal vs Barcelona with another confident outing. He's got better and better with each game on this tour and you can see why Guardiola likes him. In the manager's words, City have a player on their hands. 7

James McAtee

Better again, did everything right - and a smart assist for Haaland's hat-trick goal. Guardiola will probably like the fact that he's done the unspectacular very well. 7

One dazzling run along the byline deserved more and his goal was that of a player full of confidence. He ends the tour with two goals and three assists in four games - a very, very good trip for the winger. 8

Jack Grealish

Made the first goal with his interception and could have had a goal later in the first half. He stayed calm in the face of aggravation from Enzo Fernandez. Good evening to round off the kind of tour he needed. 7

  • Erling Haaland

Two goals in the first five minutes to make it four from four on tour in the first half - and completed a hat-trick in the second half with another one-on-one finish following a Chelsea mistake for a fifth of the summer. Clinical. 8

Tom Galvez (on 45)

A first senior appearance for the left-back and he looked good, especially in attack. 6

Mahamadou Susoho (on 69)

Replaced Lewis at right-back. 6

Amar Fatah (on 70)

Lively again from the triallist. 6

Joel Ndala (on 70)

Some quick feet on the left. 6

Scott Carson (on 78)

A popular introduction for his second appearance of the tour. 7

Justin Oboavwoduo (on 78)

A senior debut for the forward was well deserved. 6

Jacob Wright (on 78)

Another solid cameo. 6

Stephen Mfuni, Lakyle Samuel, Callum Doyle (on 86)
