The old town of Cercy-la-Tour occupies a rocky outcrop at the confluence of three rivers: Alène, Aron and Canne, these two rivers joining the Nivernais canal to form a magnificent basin in the heart of the city.

Cercy is a fisherman's paradise and a picturesque stopover on the Véloroute fitted out along the canal from Decize to Auxerre.

After having visited the Romanesque-style church (11th century), listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments, the visitor will be able from the tower, a former keep of which only the base remains, to enjoy a remarkable panorama of the city and its region.

Whether he is a lover of old stones or old houses, or simply lover of peace in unspoiled nature, this visitor will be able to find in the region the setting that suits his aspirations, without being far from all.

Car, with its 1,800 inhabitants, Cercy-la-Tour provides everyone with a wide range of services, complete commercial and craft activities and offers a variety of leisure activities: hiking, fishing, tennis, river tourism, swimming and water games in the municipal swimming pool equipped with a slide located just behind the municipal campsite.

Between old stones and rivers

By going up this small steep street, more familiarly called “rue Casse-Cou”, you will reach the historic old town.

From the tower, an ancient keep of which only the base remains, admire the monumental statue of the Virgin Mary which dominates Cercy-la-Tour. On the Place d'Aligre, after visiting the Saint Peter's Church listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, stop at the fountain, bearing the image of the Marquis and Marquise d'Aligre, former benefactors of the city.
