  • Only some of the lodges have an outdoor fire pit but they do all have their own private decking area.

Dotted around the edge of Yorkshire’s lush woodland, the sustainable wooden lodges are designed to make the most of their spectacular countryside location. Outside seating and dining areas are perfect for wildlife spotting and breathing in the fresh country air while clear starry nights can be enjoyed around the traditional open pit fires. Inside, wood-burning stoves and beamed ceilings create a cosy countryside feel while contemporary designs ensure that there is a modern and stylish appeal. Stunning floor-to-ceiling windows steal the show in the open plan living and dining areas providing exquisite views over the wild Yorkshire dales. From here you can soak up the views while you cook up a feast before relaxing in the sumptuous designer seating area. With room for up to six people, the award-winning lodges have three deluxe bedrooms to choose from. Stylish tree trunk furniture adorns the wooden floors, while luxurious throws and pretty pastel colours create a tranquil and calming atmosphere. With at least one master en-suite bedroom and the choice of a third double or twin room, there is plenty of space to relax in after those busy days of exploring. Set in an idyllic location, the lodges are in an ideal place to uncover the delights of the local Yorkshire Dales. Excellent walks can be found in the adjoining woods, along the river trails and upon the beautiful cliffs of the nearby coast. Animal lovers may even by lucky enough to spot some of the magnificent deer on their woodland walks. There is also an abundance of sporting activities, including canoeing, caving and gliding in the area and plenty of family attractions, including the historic Castle of Richmond and the Darlington Railway museum. The Yorkshire Dales, with its rich green hills and ancient forests cut through by rivers and streams, is a truly idyllic location. Covering 1,762 square kilometres (680 square miles), the Yorkshire Dales National Park is located in the north of England, and straddles the central Pennines in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Set apart from the town of Richmond, which is only a beautiful stroll away along the to Coast to Coast path, the delightfully secluded Natural Retreats site is the perfect location for those wishing to enjoy a full holiday, or short weekend break in luxurious self catering accommodation.

Each residence has three bedrooms and can accommodate a maximum of six adults - the size and make-up of the bedrooms varies across two styles of residence.

Half of the residences boast a large master bedroom with en-suite shower and wet room as well as two slightly smaller double bedrooms. These two rooms share a large family bathroom together with bath and shower.

Our other nine residences also offer three double bedrooms, each of which, has an en-suite shower room and wc. Across all of our residences we have a bedroom which can be made up as a twin for children with adjoining zip and link mattresses, perfect for younger guests yet offering a full size double unless requested.

Each residence is equipped to the highest standards to offer a luxurious stay at this most stunning of locations.

Things to do

There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied and entertained during your Yorkshire Dales break.  Mountain bikes can be hired and there are many riding stables in the area.  Fantastic fishing can be found on the Swale as close as Richmond itself and there are endless miles of exhilarating walks across the Dales.  Natural Retreats also works with Natural Perspectives to provide fitness and wellbeing breaks at the Yorkshire Dales, with professional fitness instruction that will revitalise the body and relax the mind.

Plenty of family attractions are situated locally, including educational places like Darlington Railway museum, housed in one of the oldest railway stations and the great Castle of Richmond and entertaining places for thrill seekers such as Aerial Extreme in Bedale and Adrenalin North Yorkshire.

Jump in the car and explore the scenic landscape of Yorkshire's beaches.  With a surprising collection of sandy beaches and cliff faces, pack a picnic and enjoy a great day out.

WALK ONE:  AISLABECK ROUND

This walk offers you the chance to view much of the landscape beyond the boundaries of Natural Retreats with views across the plains to Richmond and beyond.   It is said on a clear day it is possible to see the spire of York Minster!

START/FINISH:  THE SANCTUARY DISTANCE/GRADE:  45 MINUTES, EASY TERRAIN:  LEVEL, UNEVEN IN WOODS CIRCULAR WALK:  YES

WALK TWO:  RIVER SWALE AND RICHMOND

There are many interesting and varied ways to walk into Richmond from the Natural Retreats site but by far the most satisfying and rewarding is this charming river walk that takes you into the heart of the town along the river Swale, with some spectacular riverside glades and classic views of the castle and town itself.

START/FINISH:  COAST TO COAST PATH DISTANCE/GRADE:  1.5 HOURS, LEISURELY TERRAIN : FAIRLY LEVEL, UPHILL ON RETURN CIRCULAR WALK:  YES

WALK THREE:  WHITECLIFFE WALK

A relatively short walk that offers huge variety and a microcosm of all that is wonderful about the Yorkshire Dales.  It contrasts wonderful views of Swaledale with dark forest walks, river trails and dramatic cliffs with a dose of historical sites thrown in for good measure.
