Port of Miami Cruise Parking (Where to Park): Prices, Profiles, & Map

As the busiest cruise port in the world, Miami sees its fair share of passengers driving in for their vacation. Of course, that means that they need a place to park.

Parking garage at the Port of Miami.

Located on Dodge Island, which is just across the bridge from downtown Miami, the cruise terminals are in a busy area of town where parking space is at a premium. Still, if you need to park for your cruise, then you’ll have no problem finding a spot. The port itself offers convenient parking right at the ship, but it comes at a steep price.

That’s why it pays to know your options. Prices vary considerably, based mainly on convenience to the port.

As a rule of thumb, the closer you park to the ship, the more costly it will be. The most expensive parking is located right at the port but is also the easiest to use. Luckily, there are other options if you are a bargain hunter.

(Note: If you are planning to spend a night in the area, check out our page of Port of Miami hotels with cruise parking   or Miami hotels with port shuttles . These hotels can help you save money on parking or transportation to the port.)

In This Article...

Miami Cruise Parking Lot Costs

Prices for parking can vary widely. The Port of Miami charges $22 per day ($25-$28 if sailing Royal Caribbean), while independent lots typically charge between $11-12 per day. One thing to keep in mind is that taxes and fees at independent lots can add several dollars each day to your cost.

Note: There are a number of parking lots that show up on some third-party websites, but are difficult to find reliable information about. We’ve left those options off our list.

Official Port of Miami Parking Lots (Recommended)

Garage G at Port of Miami

While it is the priciest option, we recommend that cruise passengers simply park at the official port lots. Not only is it the most convenient with the ability to park right at the ship, but it is also the most reliable option we’ve found. There is a garage located right near each cruise terminal.

For the convenience of parking here, be prepared to pay the price. Overnight parking for most terminals is $22 per night.

Parking is available for oversized vehicles, but will cost extra if taking up more than one space and is in only one lot, across from Terminal E (which may or may not be convenient to your ship). Credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and Discover, as well as cash and traveler’s checks are accepted. However, debit cards are not.

Parking comes in both covered (parking garage) and uncovered lots. The good news is that there are several options for where to park, so you can always find a lot that’s near your cruise ship. Simply follow the signs to your ship as you arrive at the port and you’ll find the parking lot or garage nearby.

Here’s a map with each lot and garage labeled:

Want to save some money? Disabled passengers in vehicles with specialized equipment (such as lifts or foot/hand controls) and those with Florida disabled veteran license plates can park for free. Click here for more details , or you can call the port at 305-347-4800.

  • Cost: $22 per day
  • Distance: At terminal

Port of Miami Royal Caribbean Parking Garage

Sailing on Royal Caribbean from Miami? Things are slightly different in that the parking at Terminal A (Royal Caribbean’s terminal) is run separate from the rest of the port parking.

Located at the far east end of the port, Terminal A features a garage for guests. Unlike the rest of the garages, however, reservations are required . If you don’t have a reservation before you arrive, then you will need to park at Terminal J, across the entire port from Terminal A (a shuttle is provided).

Rates here run a hefty $35 per night. That’s nearly 60% more than the rest of the port. If you don’t mind walking, you could theoretically park in another garage and then walk over to the Royal Caribbean terminal.

  • Cost: $35 per day
  • Website: https://www.royalmiamiparking.com/

Independent Parking Lots

In addition to the port, there are several options from independent parking lots in the area.

Safe Cruise Parking Safe Cruise Parking offers a good deal, covered garage parking, and 24/7 security. That’s a pretty compelling offer for a rate that’s considerably less than the cruise parking lots at the port.

Prices are around $11.50 per day for parking, but keep in mind you are charged for both the day you arrive and the day you leave . So if you arrive on a Saturday for a 7-day cruise and then leave the next Saturday, you’ll be charged for eight days. As well, taxes and fees increase the cost. For a week-long cruise, expect to pay about $100 for parking. Even with taxes and fees, that’s about half the rate of the Port of Miami.

The lot is located about 1.5 miles driving from the cruise terminals. A shuttle runs regularly to the Miami port and is free. Reservations are available on their website, which we recommend to ensure you have a spot when you arrive.

  • Cost: ~$14.30 per day (including taxes & fees)
  • Distance: 1.5 miles (free shuttle provided) | 189 NE 2nd St.
  • Website: https://www.safecruiseparking.com

Premier Cruise Parking If you want to park in a garage where your car is protected from the searing Miami sun, then look into this company. Similar to Safe Cruise Parking above, this lot is actually a garage offering multiple levels of covered parking.

The garage (the MET3 parking garage in downtown Miami) is located about a mile from the port and offers a free shuttle to and from the cruise terminal. Rates run $9.95 per day. But with taxes and fees (plus the eight days of parking) you can expect to pay about $90 in total for parking on a one-week cruise — or roughly $12.90 per day for a 7-day cruise. Garage clearance is just 7 feet if you drive a tall vehicle.

  • Cost: ~$12.90 per day (including taxes & fees)
  • Distance: 1.5 miles (free shuttle provided) | 250 SE 3rd Ave.
  • Website:  https://premiercruiseparking.com/

WeParkIn Miami With parking in a garage just across the causeway from the port, this spot is among the closest you’ll find. The garage is located in downtown Miami and only minutes away from the ships.

During our search we found prices of $10 per day (keep in mind you have to pay for the day you arrive and the day you leave). With taxes and fees, the price ends up being around $91 per day for a week-long cruise cruise or about $13 per day. That’s about 60% the cost of parking at the cruise terminal. In addition, the parking lot website says they have a shuttle service to get you back and forth from PortMiami.

  • Cost: ~$13.00 per day (includes taxes & fees)
  • Distance: 1.5 miles | 850 NE 2nd Ave

Miami Hotels With Cruise Parking (Recommended)

If you are staying in the Miami area in a hotel, then you may be able to save on your parking. Many hotels cater to cruisers with special daily parking rates or parking packages, which allow you to leave your car while you sail.

Hotels include DoubleTree, Comfort Suites, Hampton Inn, and others near the port.

To be sure, if you don’t plan to stay in a hotel before your trip already, it’s not worth it to book a room just to get the parking. But if you already want to stay nearby before your cruise, then a hotel with a parking package can save you money over parking at the port.

For example, a hotel might be $150 a night normally, but charge $180 for the park and cruise package that lets you leave your car for a week. The extra package cost is lower than the price of parking at the Port of Miami, which charges $22 per day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which parking lot should I use? While it is more expensive, we would suggest the parking at the Port of Miami . Navigating Miami can be difficult, so it’s nice to be able to park right at your ship and simply walk across a street to board. It’s also convenient in that you don’t have to pre-book or reserve anything. You simply arrive at the port on cruise day and park.

Can I park for free anywhere during my cruise? It be great to be able to park for free, but it’s only available in a few situations. First, if you are disabled and your automobile has modifications (such as a ramp), then you are able to park for free at the Port of Miami. As well, those with Florida disabled veteran license plates can also get free parking. You can call the port at 305-347-4800 for more details.

If you don’t meet one of those two groups, don’t despair. You can park for free (or a discount) at a number of hotels in the area in exchange for a night’s stay. These hotels offer parking as a perk to attract cruise passengers. See a list of Miami hotels with cruise parking here .

What time should I arrive if I am parking? If you plan to park at the port, we’d suggest arriving 30 minutes before you plan to board. So if you want to board the ship at noon, arrive at 11:30. This will offer plenty of time to park, find your way to the ship and get checked in.

If you plan to park at an off-site parking lot, then we’d up that time to an hour before you board. This gives you plenty of time to park and then shuttle to the cruise ship.

Do I need to reserve a parking spot before I arrive? If you plan to park at the port, you don’t need to reserve any sort of parking unless parking at the Royal Caribbean terminal. There are spots available and you simply pay when you arrive. For other lots, you’ll want to reserve ahead of time to ensure that they have space available.

Would you pay for the parking as you enter the garage or at the end of your cruise when eiting the garage?

Where is the best place to park when traveling on MSC October 2023? Want a covered and secure lot.

Just at the port. There are garages near each terminal.

We are driving in the night before. It is a 12 hour drive, so I expect to arrive in Miami sometime between 6a-9a. Can we get in the garage at port of miami at that time? Will there be parking available since it is before the cruise before us disembarks?

Not sure on that, but I’d suggest going somewhere, relaxing, sightseeing, or having breakfast. The port will be very busy with everyone trying to get off the ship.

Parking for NCL Terminal B? Cruising in December 2023. Also, one member is handicapped no equipment only a walker. Where do we park? The map is vague. Would like to have the ability to make a reservation.

There’s a parking garage adjacent to the terminal. Just head to the terminal and you’ll see the signs for garage parking.

Is the parking per day or per night? For the period from May 5th to May 8th, will I be charged for 3 or 4 days?

Do you know the height for Terminal F for Carnival. Just wanting to know as I have a truck and wanting to make sure I have enough clearance.

I do not know the exact height, but they are standard parking garages. If you can usually park in a garage, then you should be fine. If not, then there is oversized parking available.

Hi, just checking if this article still up to date and if in Feb 2023 I still can go and find a parking spot at the port. I’m concerned to be full, I hate to leave things like this for the last minute and don’t have reservations. I look at the satellite picture in google maps and dont even see big parking lots at the port, just a lot containers and construction.

Yes, it’s still valid. Miami used parking garages instead of big lots, that’s why Google Maps doesn’t show a lot of big parking lots.

Thanks for the quick response Tanner. I assume those garages are walking distance from the cruises right? Im taking an MSC for the first time and for what I’ve found is in the terminal AA/AAA, so because Royal is on A I assume will be close by and I have to take the Royal Caribbean garage?

AA/AAA is under construction. To my knowledge it’s not open yet. When it is, it will have its own parking.

I have 20 ft long 9 1/2 high campervan. Can I find a spot near Norwegian termi? 11 day cruise.

Roadtrekker

Not sure exactly where the oversized parking is, but it shouldn’t be too far. I know they ask you to park in a surface lot instead of garage.

The Royal Caribbean garage is more expensive than the other port garages. Can I park at another port garage and walk to the RC dock?

I supposed you could, although not sure if they check your boarding pass to ensure you’re in the right garage. Also, the RC terminal is at the very far end of the port, so there is some walking.

Do the lots at the cruise terminal fill up? I fear planning on parking here and no spaces available.

No, you don’t have to worry about that. Even if the lot for that specific terminal did fill up, you would just be redirected to another nearby lot. Plenty of space.

Do I need a reservation to park my car at the terminal A garage? If so, how do I make the reservation?

Thank you very much,

Bob Weinstein

No, you can just drive up the day of the cruise.

Wonder how difficult traffic will be on Saturday before the Super Bowl getting to and into the port of Miami. I know there is a week long event at Bayfront park. How much travel margin should we leave? How much extra time to allow?

We actually went through there on Friday before the Super Bowl. Wasn’t bad at all!

Is this parking right by royal carribean ship?

Yes, if you use the port parking.

Does Miami airport offer shuttle to the port? Also, would economy parking at the airport be cheaper that port parking?

The airport doesn’t have a shuttle to the port, but you can Uber/Lyft. You could use airport parking, and it would likely be cheaper. Just remember to add in the cost and time of transportation between your car and the port.

I received a free cruise and a hotel room for the night before and a shuttle to the cruise port, but they don’t provide parking. The parking at the hotel is very expensive. Where would you recommend I park so that I don’t have to move the car the morning of the cruise and will get a shuttle ride back to my car? I will get a taxi or uber to the hotel from the parking lot.

If it were us, we would simply park at the Port of Miami. It’s more expensive than other lots, but really convenient. If you want to avoid some of the traffic, wait until later in the day to get to the ship.

How would i know if there is parking space available for me to park my car if there is no reservation?

There is ample parking at the port. You don’t have to worry about there being enough space.

Does anyone know if a Dogde Grand Caravan could be considered as a “oversize vehicles”? I am asking because I am looking to Premier Cruise Parking due to the proximity and price and I was just not sure about it

That won’t be oversized. Oversized are things like RVs.

As of today August 27, 2019 Safe Cruise is up to 80 for a week long cruise and that is before ay taxes and fees.

Thanks for the update. Price can and will vary with lots.

What about disabled person to parking is free?

If you meet certain requirements, such as having modifications to the car such as a lift ramp, then you can park for free. See more here: https://www.cruzely.com/free-disabled-parking-for-florida-cruises/

Other than disabled Florida veterans, Does U.S veterans get a discount?

Glen — we don’t see anything about that. It’s still worth a shot to ask when you arrive.

Disabled customers pay the same rates?

Assuming you meet the requirements, parking at Florida ports is free for disabled passengers. You can find more information here: https://www.cruzely.com/free-disabled-parking-for-florida-cruises/

Greetings – how do I make a reservation to park at the port of Miami?

If you want to park at the port, reservations aren’t required. Simply show up on cruise day.

Can I part à 24 foot RV, if so, how much is it?

Yes, parking is available. It costs $44 per day for an oversized vehicle.

Downtown Miami is home to many national and international companies, let alone tourists, so parking can really be an issue.

Parking in Miami can be not only hard to find, but also expensive. The average hourly rate in downtown Miami is $7.00. To park for 24 hours at a lot or garage, you will have to pay between $28.00 and $30.00.

Monthly parking , however, is not too expensive with an average cost of around $110 per month.

On-street parking is managed by Miami Parking Authority . There are over 9,000 on-street spots in Miami whose rates vary between $0.75 to $1.50 per hour. Most of the coin-based meters are already replaced by meters that accept coins, credit and debit cards and, in some locations, dollar bills. You also have an option to pay for parking using the Pay-by-Phone app.

You can also find more detailed parking maps for the following locations:  Port of Miami , Sun Life Stadium , Miami International Airport .

Where Should I Park? Best Miami Cruise Parking Guide

Guest Post

Plan on parking at PortMiami for your next cruise?  You should know there are a ton of parking options.  But don’t worry, we’ll guide you through all of them so you can save money, park conveniently, and just enjoy a worry-free cruise.

Luckily finding a place to park while you take your cruise isn’t as painful as you may think it is. To help you out, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about cruise parking near PortMiami.

Most Convenient Parking for Miami Cruise Passengers

If convenience is what you’re looking for, PortMiami offers the best cruise parking for passengers. They’re located right by the cruise ports and they offer both covered and uncovered parking with high security. They’ll also provide you with a shuttle to take you, your luggage, and anyone in your group to and from your terminal.

All lots have handicap accessible parking at standard rates. Free parking is available to any vehicles that require use of specialized equipment (ramps, lifts, foot/hand controls, etc.), display a State of Florida disabled veterans license plate, or display a Florida Toll Exemption permit.

The only downside to parking onsite is the price. Rates for overnight parking is $22 per night, and if you have an oversized vehicle longer than 20 feet you’ll pay $44 per night.  Royal Caribbean’s Terminal A charges $25 per night.

Off-Site Cruise Parking in Miami

If you’re looking for something with lower rates, there are a few businesses that offer parking for cruise passengers in Miami at a fraction of the price that the official port parking charges.

Safe Cruise Parking

Safe Cruise Parking is located just 5 minutes from the port and charges passengers roughly $14 a night per vehicle with fees and taxes, and you can book as many nights as you need.

You can find them at 155 SW 3 rd St, and once you park, they’ll provide a free shuttle to take you and your luggage to and from the cruise terminal. The shuttle runs every 15-30 minutes between 8am and 2:30pm, so be sure to arrive within that time if you wish to take advantage of it.

JetPort Park & Ride Center

This is another great budget-friendly parking option for Miami cruise travelers. Rates start at $9.99 per night and provide complimentary round-trip shuttle service for up to 4 people ($5 extra for each additional person).

JetPort is a secured parking lot with 24/7 surveillance so your car will always be safe. The shuttle runs from 8am to 3pm taking passengers to and from the cruise terminal.

You must reserve your parking online. Once you do, they’ll send you directions to the garage. When you arrive, you’ll receive an entry ticket, then once you park, you’ll go to the customer service desk to show your entry ticket and reservation, and there you’ll wait for the shuttle.

Premier Cruise Parking

This multi-level parking garage is just a mile from the ports and provides free shuttle service that can take you to the cruise terminal on cruise day and will bring you back upon your return.

Rates run about $10-$12 per day, plus taxes and fees. No oversized vehicles are allowed, so if you’re bringing an RV or camper, you’ll have to park somewhere else.

The earliest you can park there is 10:30am. Shuttle service starts at 11am and runs to 3:30pm. They do not allow any parking after 3:30pm, so be sure to plan accordingly if you decide to reserve a spot here.

Miami Parking Lots (Update- no longer in service)

Miami Parking Lots offers 3 convenient off-site parking locations for Miami cruise passengers. The addresses for these locations are:

  • 3310 NW 24 th Street Road ($8.95 per day)
  • 1849 NW 1st Ave. ($10 per day)
  • 45 SE 2 nd ($20 per day)

All lots provide free shuttle to and from the cruise port for up to 4 passengers. Any additional shuttle passengers will be charged $5 per person.

One thing we found confusing when navigating their website, is that other locations and addresses are mentioned, while when you go to book it only gives you the above three options. It’s possible they may not have updated their website in a while.

In that case, if you’re interested in the cheaper prices and services they offer, you may want to try calling them at 1-866-888-0331 for more information.

Best Cruise Parking

At just $9.99 per night ($10 during peak season), Best Cruise Parking is another favorable option for saving on your trip budget. They are located at 221 NW 1 st Street. Reservations must be made online, or you can give them a call at 1-833-568-7101.

They provide complimentary round-trip shuttle service for 4 passengers; additional persons are $5 each. Your shuttle driver will give you a set of flags to use to alert him to your presence when you return.

They do not, however, provide service to Bimini Fast Cruise, or do they allow parking of oversized vehicles.

Miami Quick Park

Quick Park at Miami Cruise Port Parking is owned and operated by another cruise parking company with multiple locations on the east coast. This is the first Miami location they’ve built.

Housed in an old Alamo car rental facility, they have 400 outdoor parking spots available, an air-conditioned waiting lounge, and staff willing and able to help with luggage and shuttle transportation. Up to 4 passengers can ride the shuttle for free, and it’s $10 for each additional person.

Quick Park rates start at $8.00 per day, but during the holidays it’s $9 per day.

Park at Miami International Airport

Even if you’re not using the airport, you can still park there, and it’s cheaper than parking at the Port of Miami. The airport is only about 9 or 10 miles from the cruise terminal. They charge $17 per day and you can park there for a maximum of 60 days.

Just like the official port parking, handicap vehicles can park in accessible parking areas and will be charged the regular rate. Those with special equipment, FL State disabled veterans license plates, or a Florida Toll Exemption permit will be exempt from parking fees.

Also, since the Port of Miami frequently offers shuttles to and from the airport, you shouldn’t have any problems getting a ride to the cruise port.

PortMiami Information

PortMiami is the largest passenger port in the world, serving over 5 million customers per year. It is also one of the largest cargo ports in the United States.

If you’ve chosen Miami as your cruise port, you may want to know a few things about the port and terminals so you can plan your trip accordingly.

The Miami cruise port has some of the most modern terminals in the world, all of them designed to move passengers quickly and efficiently from land to sea and back again. There’s convenient parking (as we’ve noted early in this article) for all terminals, and the entry ways allow for easy check-in and boarding.

This terminal serves The Crown of Miami , a Royal Caribbean vessel, along with some of Royal’s largest ships. It is the Port of Miami’s newest terminal, opened in November 2018, and is the largest cruise terminal in the U.S.

Serves Disney and MSC Cruises and was recently renovated to accommodate larger cruise vessels, including some of MSC’s mega ships.

This is the port’s smallest “boutique” cruise terminal, built and designed for smaller vessels from Oceania and Regent Seven Seas. It’s currently undergoing a few renovations to better accommodate customs and border protection, remodel existing restrooms, and add an exterior escalator.

Other Terminals

Terminals B & C serve Norwegian Cruise Line, D & E serve Carnival, and G serves Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises.

Terminals Coming Soon

In addition to the many terminals already in business at the Port of Miami, the port has plans to add a handful of new terminals in the coming years.

New Terminal B – In April 2018, the port began work on Terminal B to serve Norwegian Cruise Lines. It’s scheduled to open for business in less than a year.

New Terminal V – This terminal will be home to Virgin Voyages. The port plans to break ground later this year and are looking for construction to be complete by November 2021. Virgin Voyages is a new cruise line and their first ship, which will ship out of the Port of Miami, is Scarlet Lady.

New Terminal AA/AAA – Early this year MSC Cruises started planning and designing two new cruise facilities at the Port of Miami, hopefully to be done by 2020.

New Terminal K – And finally, Disney Cruise Line signed an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with Miami-Dade County to expand two of their ships and add a new cruise terminal as well. The new terminal will be on the south side of the port.

Parking in Miami doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Any of the options listed above would be great choices, depending on what your preference is.

The best option for convenience and for handicapped visitors is to park on-site at the port. However, this is also the most expensive option. If there are budget restraints, Miami has various other parking options for far less, and many of them also offer shuttle service.

If you’d rather arrive a day or two before, we’ve included nearby hotels with Park & Cruise packages that provide free parking and shuttle service to the port. A few will even upgrade your room for free, which is an extra bonus.

Wherever you decide to park or stay while visiting Miami, we hope you have fun and enjoy your cruise.

Everything You Need to Know About Parking Near the Port of Miami

The Port of Miami is located on Didge Island in a central part of the city. This makes it easy to reach from prime tourist spots like South Beach or Miami Beach but it also means that parking space is in high demand. Because of that, snagging a spot near the Port of Miami for a weeklong cruise isn’t going to come cheap.

Still, millions of people board ships in the Port of Miami every year so there is infrastructure in place to accommodate passengers who choose to drive to the port and park rather than use a ridesharing app.

If you’re planning to park in Miami while you set sail on a cruise, this guide covers everything you need to know about parking near the port. From the cheapest options ($4.50 per night) to the most convenient (covered and patrolled garages right at the terminals) and everything in between, this list of long-term parking options in Miami will help you plan the perfect cruise from the city!

Parking at the Port of Miami

Sometimes, convenience is everything. If you’re just looking for the quickest and easiest parking for your cruise, the Port of Miami has garages at every terminal. Parking costs $22 per night in the covered garages and all lots are patrolled by security.

If you’re regularly a debit card user, just note that the terminal parking accepts payment in cash or credit cards only. Disabled parking is available at the same rates while oversize parking costs an additional $22 per day.

Parking Near the Port of Miami

Of course, parking at the Port of Miami is the most convenient option for most cruise-goers, so it’s the most expensive as well. If you want to cut down on costs before you board your ship, consider parking at third-party lots near the Port of Miami instead.

Parkopedia is a great resource for finding alternative parking in Miami for your cruise. Enter your desired dates into the website and then you can conveniently sort available options by price or distance from the port.

Entering a seven-day trip a few months in advance turns up some surprisingly budget-friendly options, like the South Miami Metrorail Station , where parking is only $4.50 per 24 hours. The website does say that if you park in the lot you must board the Metrorail, but you’ll want to ride it into Downtown Miami to reach the port anyway.

If you’d like to be closer to the Port of Miami, there are plenty of lots to choose from within a few miles of the cruise terminals.

Premier Cruise Parking is one of the most popular because it’s only a mile from the port and offers a free shuttle. Here, parking in covered garages costs $58 per week (and they offer daily rates as well). Plus, you can reserve spots online and rest easy knowing that your cruise parking is completely taken care of and you won’t be driving around Miami searching for spots or comparing prices on the morning of your trip!

Cruise Parking at Hotels

If you’re planning to spend time in Miami before your cruise sets sail, consider cruise parking packages with hotels in the city.

Many hotels allow free parking for the duration of a cruise if you book one night in the hotel before you go. If you’re not planning to spend the night in Miami before your cruise, this option doesn’t make much sense financially, but if you do need a room then booking one that comes with free parking can save you hundreds of dollars.

Some hotels near the Port of Miami that offer cruise parking packages include the Hilton Miami Downtown and Extended Stay America along with many others – use this list to browse more options and book your cruise parking package today!

Cruise Parking at the Miami Airport

Parking at the Miami Airport costs $17 per day, so it doesn’t make sense economically to choose this over the other options near the Port of Miami that are cheaper and closer to the cruise terminals. However, there are always plenty of third-party lots near airports that specialize in long-term parking at cheap rates and the Miami Airport has a few that are worth perusing.

Airport Parking Reservations will list all the lots and prices available during your stay to help you find the best deals, some of which are as low as $4 per night! Take the free shuttle to the airport and then the $2.25 express airport bus into the city and you’ll find yourself saving some serious cash with this option.

Parking RVs and Campers Near the Port of Miami

RVs and campers considered oversize vehicles will be expensive to park during your cruise. The Port of Miami terminals do accommodate oversize vehicles but charge an extra $22 per night on top of the $22 parking fee already in place. So, a seven-day cruise will cost $308 just in parking fees alone – definitely not cheap!

If you’re planning to stay in Miami in your RV before or after your cruise, simply leaving your RV at an RV park can cost the same amount or even save you some money. For example, the Yacht Haven Park and Marina in Fort Lauderdale offers weekly stays for as low as $255.

They also offer off-site short-term storage for $20 per night, which would add up to only $140 for a weeklong cruise. Even with travel between Miami and Fort Lauderdale factored in, this option will help budget-minded RV travelers save money!

Free Parking in Miami

Is it possible to find free long-term parking in Miami?

If you have friends or family who live in the suburbs around the city, consider asking them if you can park in front of their house or on their driveway during your trip to save money. Of course, bringing them back a small gift from your cruise would be a great way to show your appreciation!

If you’re renting a car for your Miami trip, return it before you cruise and pick up another one afterward to avoid paying parking fees altogether.

If you’re driving in from cities around Miami like Orlando or Tampa, consider ditching the car from the outset and taking a Megabus to Miami instead of driving. If you buy in advance, fares can be as low as $5 each way and you’ll save on gas expenses as well.

Bonus: 3 More Money-Saving Tips when Driving in Miami

Whether you rent a car or drive into the city on your own, these four tips will help you cut costs on your next trip to Miami.

1. Buy a SunPass to save money on toll roads.

Most travelers in Florida who rent cars quickly discover that this state loves toll roads. Luckily, the SunPass is easy to buy and will save you money on every fare.

The SunPass mini sticker costs $4.99 but it will reduce toll rates by about 25 percent. Plus, the pass allows you to pass through tolls quicker and will save you the headache of digging exact change out of your pockets.

If you’re not sure you’ll use the toll roads enough that the $4.99 SunPass fee is worth it, use this SunPass Toll Calculator and input your route through the state to find out. Whether you opt to purchase the pass or not, remember that Google Maps always gives the option to “avoid tolls” on your route as well!

2. Use Uber or Lyft instead of driving in the city.

If you’re heading to popular tourist spots like Miami Beach or South Beach where you’d like to spend the entire day, don’t forget that taking an Uber or Lyft to and from the destination may be cheaper than paying for hours of parking in the area – especially if you misread signs or overstay your parking time. Getting a ticket or having your car towed is definitely not the ideal way to start a vacation!

3. Avoid Tickets with the Pay by Phone app.

The Miami Parking Authority released the Pay by Phone app that lets you easily find and pay for parking spots around Miami, Coral Gables, and South Miami.

Rather than keeping track of your time in a spot or rushing back up the street to add more money to a meter, the app will do everything for you. It sends out text reminders when your parking time is close to running out and then allows you to extend it with one click!

Download the app before you travel to Miami and rest easy that you’ll never get a parking citation in the city again.

I utilized We park in Miami’s services to leave my car parked throughout the days my family and I were on my cruise. Once I arrived at the parking lot a staff member checked my family and I in. In and asked me for my license plate number, cruise ship name and number of passengers to ensure they registered each passenger with the corresponding ship return dates. I would suggest to have your license plate number written down somewhere so that you can provide it at the time of registering your car as they ask for it to ensure security keeps an extra eye on your car. I had an overall great experience with them and would highly recommend them.

Planning a cruise from Miami?

Miami cruise

One essential detail you shouldn’t overlook is parking. Miami offers several parking options with prices ranging from $11 to $28 per day, depending on whether you choose port or independent lots . Each option has different benefits, such as cost, location, and security.

For those sailing with Royal Caribbean, expect to pay $25-$28 per day if parking at the Port of Miami. Alternatively, independent lots provide a more budget-friendly option, typically charging $11-$12 per day. Some of these lots even offer additional services like shuttle transfers to make your experience hassle-free.

Selecting the right parking could significantly impact your overall trip experience. Opt for covered garages at the Port of Miami for added peace of mind, or independent lots for cost savings. Learn more about these parking options and tips to make an informed decision.

Understanding Miami Cruise Port Parking

Parking at the Miami Cruise Port involves various options, each with different pricing and security measures. Travelers can select from onsite, offsite, and hotel package parking, each offering unique benefits.

Types of Parking Available

Travelers can choose between onsite parking , offsite parking , and hotel parking packages .

Onsite parking is typically more convenient for quick access to the port and is offered at covered and uncovered lots.

Offsite parking options often provide more affordable rates and may include shuttle services to the port.

Hotel parking packages combine lodging with extended parking, providing a seamless start to a traveler’s journey.

Parking Fees and Payment Options

The Miami Cruise Port charges $22 per day for regular vehicles, while Royal Caribbean passengers might pay up to $28 per day . Independent lots generally charge between $11-$12 per day but be mindful that taxes and fees can add several dollars to the daily rate for these lots. Payment methods include credit cards and cash, with some lots offering online reservations to secure a spot in advance.

Safety and Security Measures

Onsite parking facilities at the Miami Cruise Port are designed with safety in mind, with 24/7 surveillance and security personnel. Covered parking adds protection from weather elements, and shuttle services from independent lots aim to provide reliable and secure transport. Ensure peace of mind by choosing well-reviewed parking services that prioritize security and customer service, keeping vehicles safe throughout the journey.

By planning parking arrangements around these critical considerations, travelers can ensure a smooth and secure start to their cruise from the Port of Miami.

Preparation and Tips for Hassle-Free Parking

Ensuring a smooth start to your cruise involves several crucial steps, from reserving parking spaces in advance to understanding check-in procedures and exploring nearby accommodations.

Advance Reservation Process

Booking your parking in advance can save time and stress. Many parking facilities around the Port of Miami offer online reservation systems. This allows travelers to secure a spot ahead of time, locking in better rates and availability.

Most reputable parking providers, such as Safe Cruise Park Miami, provide a secure online platform to book your parking. The earlier you book, the more money you save, as last-minute reservations tend to be pricier. It’s recommended to search for parking facilities that offer cancellation policies for added flexibility.

Check-In and Check-Out Procedures

Familiarize yourself with the check-in and check-out processes to avoid any last-minute confusion. Upon arrival, drivers typically confirm their reservation at the entrance gate, often via a printed confirmation or a QR code.

Parking facilities at the Port of Miami, charging around $22 per day, often have staff available to assist with luggage. It’s important to note whether the facility is self-park or valet. For check-out, keep in mind that oversized vehicles might incur additional fees. Ensure you have a clear understanding of these charges beforehand.

Nearby Accommodations and Amenities

Consider staying at nearby accommodations to reduce the hassle on the day of your cruise. Several hotels close to the Port of Miami offer “Park and Cruise” packages, which bundle parking with an overnight stay. This can be particularly convenient for early morning departures.

In addition to hotels, many parking facilities are within close proximity to restaurants, shopping centers, and other amenities. This allows travelers to enjoy some leisure time before boarding. Amenities such as free shuttle services to the port can be a significant advantage.

For any issues or concerns about parking, it’s useful to note contact information for cruise ship accident lawyers in Miami . This can provide peace of mind knowing legal assistance is available if needed.

Port Canaveral cruises: A guide to cruising from the Orlando area

Megan duBois

Sailing out of Port Canaveral might not be as picturesque as cruising from PortMiami , but don't underestimate the experience. Lucky passengers might witness a rocket launch from the neighboring NASA complex or see dolphins playing in the wake as the ships sail past the shoreline of Jetty Park on the way out to sea.

And while you might be more familiar with the Miami and Fort Lauderdale departure ports, you are as likely to sail from the Orlando-area, Central Florida port as you are from one of the East Coast ports. In 2023, the bustling port brought in 6.8 million cruise passengers , served as the home port for 13 ships and scheduled 906 ship calls.

From Port Canaveral, you can sail to the Bahamas , the Caribbean , Bermuda and even across the Atlantic on cruises of two to 14 nights. Seven major cruise lines currently sail from Port Canaveral: Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises and MSC Cruises.

The port is (or soon will be) home to some of the newest and most popular cruise ships, including Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas and new Utopia of the Seas and Disney Cruise Line's Disney Wish and new Disney Treasure .

Getting to the port is easy as it's accessible from Interstate 95 and close to three airports — though it's nearly an hour's drive from Orlando International Airport (MCO) . Whether you want to overnight by the airport or close to the port, you will find a range of hotels to suit every budget and loyalty program affiliation.

Southwest offers this deal to travelers who earn 135,000 qualifying points or take 100 qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year. Those traveling with Delta can also get a companion ticket with a few of the Delta and American Express cobranded credit cards .

Because no one likes waiting around in a chaotic airport terminal after a cruise, you might want to bring a credit card that provides you with lounge access. MCO offers seven different lounges, including a Priority Pass lounge called Club MCO. Priority Pass membership starts at $99, or you can get access as a travel perk from a credit card such as the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve® .

American Airlines passengers can access The Admirals Club with a Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (see rates and fees ), which includes a complimentary Admirals Club lounge pass. The Delta Sky Club is open to travelers with paid lounge access via a subscription or one-time paid visit, or those who have select Delta-branded American Express cards.

How to get to the Port Canaveral cruise port

miami cruise port parking garage

Whether you're headed straight from the airport or from a pre-cruise hotel, you have several options on how to get to the Port Canaveral cruise port. If you are headed straight to Port Canaveral from the airport, be sure to give yourself at least three hours. Your plane should land no later than 10 a.m. to ensure you can claim any luggage, get your ride and get to the port before the boarding time ends in the afternoon without feeling rushed and flustered.

Cruise line transfers

Many cruise lines that sail from Port Canaveral offer transfer services from the airport or a hotel directly to the terminal. Talk to your travel agent to be sure it's part of your overall travel package, and if it's not, ask if you can buy the transfers individually.

For example, Disney Cruise Line can offer ground transportation from local airports to the embarkation port and back to the airport when the cruise is over. The transfer is a per-person flat fee that must be added to your cruise reservation in advance through the Disney Cruise Line app. The round-trip cost is $90 per person. If you only need one-way service, you have to call Disney Cruise Line to reserve.

Independent airport shuttles

Cruisers looking for a transfer to and from the airport, hotel or cruise terminal can do so with independent airport shuttles. Consider companies like Airport Canaveral , where shared shuttle rides in a minibus start at $20 per person and a private van starts at $125 a ride for up to five people. If you need more room for larger parties and still want a private ride, you can rent a private Sprinter shuttle starting at $220. Airport Canaveral currently serves MCO and MLB.

Prices for these services are one-way.

You'll want to consider a few criteria when deciding between a cruise transfer or an independent shuttle. The first is how big your party is. Cruise-branded transfers are often per-person costs, while individual transfers are one price for a set amount of customers.

For example, if four people are taking a Disney cruise, the total cost for a cruise-run transfer would be $360 for round-trip service from the airport to the terminal and back to the airport at the end of your trip. For the same group, Airport Canaveral can supply a private van for $300 round-trip (the price for up to five people).

It often makes more financial sense for solo travelers or small groups of two or three to take a cruise line transfer, but larger groups can save money with independent transfers.

Beyond party size and total cost, consider time and accessibility. On a cruise-run transfer, you might have to wait for an entire busload of guests to arrive and get loaded onto the bus before departing the airport. With a private transfer, you can leave when you're ready and not have to wait for anyone else.

Additionally, most of the cruise-run transfers are on large buses, which might not be the most accessible option for folks who have trouble with stairs. If you're traveling with someone with mobility challenges, a private transfer can offer more flexibility in the type of car or shuttle you book.

Independent car services

Travelers who want a private transfer can also book an independent car or van service. Prices for car services from MCO to Port Canaveral can start around $200 for a one-way trip in a luxury car that can accommodate three people. If you need a larger vehicle, a van or SUV can start around $225 and has seats for up to six people.

Orlando Luxury Transportation is a highly rated black car service that offers airport-cruise port connections. You can book a luxury SUV from MCO to Port Canaveral for five people for around $230 or a Sprinter van seating up to 14 people for around $300.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Getting a taxi to Port Canaveral is fairly easy. Taxi stands are on Level One of Terminals A and B at MCO. If you're flying into the new Terminal C, curbside arrivals are on Level Six.

Four cab companies serve MCO: Diamond Cab Company, Quick Cab, Town & Country Transport and Mears Taxi Yellow/City Cab. The cabs can carry up to nine passengers and charge the same fare no matter how many people are in the car. Fares are determined by a meter, but the average fare to Port Canaveral is about $115.

For a ride-hailing service like Uber or Lyft , head to Level Two at Terminals A and B or Level Six at Terminal C. The average route price is $69 for an Uber X and $94 for an Uber XL from MCO to Port Canaveral. Be aware that it can occasionally be challenging to get a driver to actually show up because some don't want to drive all the way to Port Canaveral from the airport if they think they won't be able to get a fare back to MCO.

Hotel shuttles

Many of the hotels near Port Canaveral offer shuttle service to the port. Free transfers or rental car parking can be a challenge to find, so contact the property to inquire about options before making a reservation. Hotel shuttle transfer costs can vary based on the location and type of hotel, but many cost around $10 per person.

Port Canaveral cruise port parking

On-site parking

Port Canaveral has a mix of parking garages and surface lots where you can park at your assigned terminal. On embarkation day, the parking facilities are open starting at 10 a.m. Parking costs $17 per day, plus tax, for standard vehicles and recreational vehicles. All payments are made with credit cards, and cash is not accepted. If you are parking at the Terminal 3 parking garage, E-PASS and SunPass are also accepted as payment.

You can drop your luggage off with the porters at the terminal before parking. Security makes the rounds through garages and surface lots daily.

Park-and-cruise

If you're driving to the port, but want a cheaper alternative to parking on-site, consider a park-and-cruise option. These lots offer secure parking with a cruise shuttle for a set fee.

Park N Cruise Port Canaveral offers a parking lot 2 miles from the port for $10.95 per day. The parking fee includes a free shuttle for up to four people, and additional passengers cost $5 per person. Shuttles depart every 30 minutes for the terminal.

If you plan on spending the night at a nearby hotel, look for ones that offer a park-and-cruise package that includes a hotel stay and parking for the duration of your cruise. The Hampton Inn Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral offers a "Park, Stay, & Go" deal where you can book a room for one night and get included parking for up to seven nights, plus shuttle service to Port Canaveral.

No matter where you park, give yourself plenty of time to get to the terminal. For convenience, park at one of the on-site lots or garages. To save some money, check in to a nearby hotel or park in an off-site lot.

Hotels near Port Canaveral cruise port

miami cruise port parking garage

You won't find a lack of hotel choices around Port Canaveral, especially in Cocoa Beach, which is the nearest city to the port. It's about 15 minutes away and a straight shot down state Road A1A from the cruise terminals. Since Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach are on the same barrier island, you'll find everything from beachfront hotels to basic accommodations near the cruise terminals, though you'll have more options the deeper into Cocoa Beach you're willing to travel.

For those who want to or need to stay in Orlando because of a late arriving flight or better points options, there are some good options near the airport in the cool Lake Nona neighborhood.

Hilton hotels near Port Canaveral

Two hotels that offer clean stays and quick overnights are the Homewood Suites by Hilton Cape Canaveral-Cocoa Beach and the Hilton Garden Inn Cocoa Beach Oceanfront (50,000 and 46,000 points per night, respectively).

Both are in convenient locations about 10 minutes from the cruise terminal and are walkable to nearby restaurants. The Homewood Suites by Hilton offers free breakfast , while the Hilton Garden Inn has breakfast for a fee. Either way, don't fill up on hotel pancakes when there's an incredible lunch waiting for you on the ship.

Marriott hotels near Port Canaveral

If you're traveling with a large or extended family, consider staying at the Springhill Suites Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach (32,000 points per night, so you could use a Marriott 35k free night certificate on some dates of the year).

The all-suite hotel has a port shuttle that costs $10.80 per person one-way, and you must call the hotel to reserve a transfer. Additionally, the hotel offers complimentary breakfast to get your day going.

Another all-suite option is the TownePlace Suites Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach (31,000 points per night). The new hotel offers free breakfast and has two bars, including one out by the pool so adults can enjoy a cocktail while kids swim.

If you're planning to spend a few days in Orlando before your cruise, consider staying at the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes (42,000 points per night). The 500-acre property is just a short drive to the theme parks for families but far enough away that it feels like an adult retreat if you don't have kids. The resort just completed a multimillion-dollar renovation, including upgrading all of the rooms and suites and adding a new water park and poolside burger bar.

Hyatt hotels near Port Canaveral

If your flight into MCO is late, consider the Hyatt Place Orlando Airport for a pre-cruise stay (9,500 points per night).

The hotel offers free breakfast, a pool and digital check-in, the latter of which is great for late incoming flights. After a good night's rest, hop on the hotel's free airport shuttle to get a ride to Port Canaveral from MCO, which will be easier to book than a ride from the hotel itself.

Non-points hotels

The Cocoa Beach area is rife with boutique hotels and accommodations that don't participate in the three major loyalty programs.

One of our favorites is The Inn at Cocoa Beach, which is right on the water. The inn has 50 rooms and is adults-only. The hotel offers a full breakfast, complimentary wine and cheese hour, beach chairs, a pool and free on-site parking.

If you're looking for a high-end hotel in Orlando to spend the night, consider the Lake Nona Wave Hotel in the heart of the booming Lake Nona neighborhood. The hotel is only 6 miles from the airport and offers luxurious suites that start at 875 square feet, with separate living room and bedroom sleeping quarters, plus a whole bath and half bath. The hotel also has one Michelin-recommended restaurant, Bacan, where the whole truffle roasted chicken is not to be missed.

Restaurants near Port Canaveral cruise port

If you need to grab breakfast or dinner during your pre-cruise stay, you'll find plenty of dining options in Cocoa Beach and Port Canaveral, including beachfront seafood and great burgers. State Road A1A and state Road 520 are the main routes through the city, and that's where you'll find most of the restaurants.

For a great drink right off state Road A1A, try Ellie Mae's Tiki Bar, where you can score half-off cocktails every Wednesday through Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.

If you want to wave at departing cruise ships before or after you set sail yourself, head to one of the port-facing restaurants on Glen Cheek Drive. Most of the restaurants have spacious outdoor patios where you can dine and bid bon voyage to the ships as you eagerly await the start of your own vacation at sea. A local favorite is Seafood Atlantic, which has been working with local fishermen to bring in the freshest seafood in the area since 1984.

Things to do in Port Canaveral before or after your cruise

miami cruise port parking garage

Since Port Canaveral is right in the middle of the state of Florida, the cruise port can be a central hub for an extended stay. If you only have a few days to extend your vacation, here are the best things you must do.

Explore the beaches

Florida is known for its beautiful beaches. If you're looking for a sandy shore right next to Port Canaveral, Cocoa Beach is the spot. If you're willing to travel a bit farther, Daytona Beach has plenty of shoreline. Just be sure to skip the beach during the busy spring break season since both areas are known for an influx of college parties.

Hit a theme park or 2

Going to an Orlando theme park is a rite of passage for many families with kids. If you're cruising out of Port Canaveral, consider adding a few days to the front of your trip to explore Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando Resort (featuring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter ). Both have multiple parks, on-site hotels and transportation options to and from the airport. If your family wishes to explore Disney, you can also book transfers to and from your Disney hotel to Port Canaveral.

NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Just 30 minutes from Port Canaveral is the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, where you can learn about NASA and space exploration. Don't miss taking the bus tour of the facility, which is about two hours long and includes a stop at the Apollo/Saturn V Center.

If you think rockets are cool, you will want to check the rocket launch schedule for Cape Canaveral before leaving home. If you're lucky, you might be in Port Canaveral or Cocoa Beach to watch a launch. Depending on the time of day, you might already be on your cruise ship, in which case, the entire ship will start to shake as a rocket lifts off.

If you're not on your ship, the best places to watch are either from the beaches or the Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier.

Shopping near Port Canaveral cruise port

If you left something at home by accident or need to stock up on supplies like bottled water for a cruise, you'll want to head to one of the major shopping centers near Port Canaveral.

The Avenue Viera is about 30 minutes from the port. The open-air mall has retailers like Kohl's, Belk and Old Navy if you need to grab a new outfit or swimsuit. The Merritt Square Mall is about 15 minutes from Port Canaveral and has large department stores like JCPenney and Sears, plus specialty stores.

If you need to bring snacks or water onto the ship, you'll find a Publix grocery store about 10 minutes from the port. You'll want to familiarize yourself with your cruise line's policies regarding carrying on prepackaged snacks, soda, alcohol and bottled water, as many limit what you can bring.

If you're looking for a souvenir shop, Cocoa Beach's North Atlantic Avenue is dotted with cute places to find T-shirts and tchotchkes. Favorites include Alvin's Island, The Funky Mermaid Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon Surf Shop.
