Chesney spent a good chunk of 2023 on the road, touring some more far-flung markets on his “I Go Back” trek. Despite his consistent touring, the country star has been relatively quiet with new music. He hasn’t released a new album since 2020’s Here and Now , but scored a hit with Kelsea Ballerini on her 2021 song “Half of My Hometown.”

Kenneth Arnold "Kenny" Chesney is an award winning American country music singer from Powell, Tennessee who released his first album in 1994.

Chesney's beginnings in music are traced to Christmas in 1986 when he was gifted his first guitar and began teaching himself to play. Chesney's musical career took a slight side step as he decided to pursue a degree in advertising at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, where he was a member of the ETSU Bluegrass Program and the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. In 1989, Chesney recorded his first self-released demo album at the Classic Recording Studio in Bristol, Virginia. He managed to sell 1,000 copies while performing on the local scene in Johnson City and used the money from album sales to help buy a new guitar. After graduation, he headed to Nashville and performed at several local clubs. He became the resident performer at The Turf, a honky tonk bar in the city's historic district.

Chesney's first album, In My Wildest Dreams, was released on the independent Capricorn Records label in April 1994 which was a moderate to mediocre release in the US Country charts, however later that year Capricorn Records closed their country department and moved to Atlanta so Chesney's career had a slight false start. His first major chart success came in the form of 'Me And You' which broke the US country top 10 and spawned three hit singles. This was merely the beginning for Kenny, his following releases all managed to sell extremely well, 14 of his 15 releases are certified gold or higher to date. From 1998, when 'She's Got It All' topped the US country charts, Kenny went on to score another sixteen US Country number ones and made substantial chart positioning on the Billboard charts too, with the 2009 single 'Out Last Night' breaking the top twenty.

Chesney's most recent charity work includes working with the V Foundation, founded by North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball coach Jim Valvano to help to find a cure for cancer. He is one of the most consistently successful country performers in the States and has sold over thirty million albums to date.

Live reviews

As usual, our man delivers an amazing performance and at Heinz Field of all places!!!!! I planned our weekend in Pittsburgh around Kenny Chesney as a surprise back in November for Christmas. He was our first date a little over 3 years ago in Raleigh NC and we have seen him every time he's return, including coincidently, our anniversary weekend this year!!! My girlfriend is a very serious serious Steelers weekend so I thought this was a perfect Christmas present for us ♡♡♡ BUT I purchased my tickets through his fans club the morning they went on sale and there was no indication our tickets were had a huge visual blockage to the stage. The large tower for the lighting was directly in front of us. We were section 114 Row B seats 114 and 115. I wish I had been able to afford better seats in general but had I known there was a big tower blocking our view I would have spent a little bit more to avoiding tha . Unfortunately tickets went on sale for me thanksgiving/black Friday and I also had Christmas and Birthday shopping and planning for my 9 year daughter but I had everything planned perfectly but I would have changed something to not be directly behind that tower. Kenny Chesney is my number one on my top 3 list of performers! I have seen him every time he's came to North Carolina the last 8 years and every concert in purchase tickets for at Walnut Creek they always inform me what sections/seats have visual impairments or that aren't under the covered pavilion in case that's an issue. We were able to see him on the screen to the left looking around people but if the screen are the back of the stadium had been on the tower probably would not have bothered us. My girlfriend has a torn MCL and a piece of cartridge broken off in her knee and is awaiting surgery so fighting to see around people sucked. BUT those things were personal issues for us. Kenny Chesney as usual was perfect!!!

I just want to say that last night was freaking amazing! My daughter and I watched an incredible line up of acts that put all other tours to shame (in our opinion) Kenny had so much love pouring from him and we felt all of it. Midand sounded amazing on that stage with their traditional sound, so glad I was there to see their first trip to Gillette's stage. Old Dominion never lets us down, such an awesome group of talented singer/songwriters with great stage presence and chemistry. Love that they came back out to sing Save it for a rainy day with Kenny. Thomas Rhett (Home Team) blew the place up with an acoustic set that filled the entire stadium, that took guts and was fantastic. He sang all his hits, got us all dancing and singing along. I caught up with an old friend Karen Jones You dearly!! Met some new friends and am waking up in Massachusetts with a slight headache but it was well earned and deserved lol If you would like to see my pics and video, I will post more later but some are up on my Facebook page so go on over and enjoy. To those heading to tonight's show, have a blast, make memories & remember to spread the love and donate your shoes for SolesforSouls for free flip flops by Blue Chair Bay Rum

This was Kenny's 16th show at Gillette and our 5 year anniversary as No Shoes Nation, our theme song is now NSNSNP - Thank you Kenny, much love!

The Atlantic Ocean is a huge, huge expanse, but there’s many genres that seem to go down equally well on either side of it; from The Beatles to Nicki Minaj, artists have spent decades and decades now proving that geography can often count for little where taste in music is concerned. One style that never seems to have quite managed that same balance, though, is country, and Kenny Chesney is a fine example of that; in his homeland, he’s a megastar, with a slew of prestigious awards to his name and in excess of thirty million records sold. Over on this side of the pond, though, he’s nothing more than a cult figure. Not that it’s slowed him down, though; in September, he’ll release The Big Revival, his seventeenth record, and continue to tour North America as prodigiously as he has for the past two decades now in support of it. The nearest thing country really has to a modern-day pop star, U.S. audiences can expect to see Chesney and his band run through a set that spans his entire career, with the man himself interacting with the crowd throughout with his trademark cowboy hat firmly in place. As for UK dates, though, it might be best for fans not to hold their breath; Chesney, like so many of his country peers, seldom tours Britain, and frankly doesn’t need to; he’s a bona fide stadium filler back home.

Loved Thomas Rhett Old Dominion and of course Kenny Chesney at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa! Now the bad news... I pre-bought, pre-sale, tickets 6 months ago for $350 X 2 and was bummed to find out the people around us paid half that closer to the show date. Some of them the day of from ticket master. I bought mine through “Live Nation” and they were supposed to be “VIP” but there was nothing “VIP” about the price of the tickets and their location. No special entrance, food or drink included! Only a poster a swag bag a lanyard and a CD. Seats were said to be row M right off the stage but they were in first section far off the stage far side with obstruction from the curtains blocking the other band members. For $700 I feel the seats were NOT worth the price! Next time Raymond James has a concert make certain you know how terrible the seats are there!

Kenny is such a great performer! I saw him at the beginning of last summer when he came with Eli young band, Kacey Musgraves, and Eric church. Being in an outdoor stadium, it provided an amazing sound experience and a wonderful view. He did an amazing job at making a setlist including songs from all of his albums, something that's hard to do with multiple albums like he does! It was upbeat and energetic the entire time. Towards the end of the show he brought out Kacey Musgraves to sing "you and tequila" and also brought out one of our Seahawks players!

Kenny Chesney is an all around american country singer. His songs are exactly what you would expect. What I like the most about him is that his songs are genuine, but still catchy... no shallow songs here! You can always count on him for a solid all American album!

Kasey Musgraves was good. The Eli Young Band was ok... music was too loud and you could barely hear them singing. Eric Church was amazing. First time seeing him and really didnt know what to expect. He put on a great show. Kenny was great again! He sang for over 2 hours! Was disappointed with the encore... he only sang one song, was hoping for a few more as it was one of his final shows before he took another year off. But all in all it was a great show from start to finsh! He played his great repatoir of music that goes from boot kickin to beach sounds to smooth times. His is the consummate performer and obviously likes to please a crowd. Speaking of that i was on the floor about 20 rows back and I cannot remember sitting down for more than a few moments. I would say, everyone appreciated Kenny's performance.

My first stadium concert, easy to get in and out of Met Life Stadium. Great atmosphere, loved seeing the Chesney life-sized poster, the Corona tour bus where you could take pictures and the radio stations represented there.

Sam Hunt and Miranda Lambert were great. It was good to take a break in between all the concerts to stretch and get something to eat.

The background music playing prior to Kenny's performance was wild, crazy and uplifting - really got us psyched up.

Kenny's concert at Met Life on 8/20 was the best concert I have ever been to. It was great singing to all his songs, taking in the more than 50,000 people enjoying his music and watching the videos and Kenny bounce around the stage. I did not want it to end. He was the best. I can't wait until his next stadium concert.

I am sure it was a great show. Unfortunately, I was not able to go because the transmission in my truck broke the day before the show and was not able to find a ride. I am so disappointed and upset for not being able to go. I dont care about loosing the money I paid for the tickets as much as not being able to go. Talk about a heart break when I knew for sure I was not gonna be able to make it. I sure hope he will put on another show near me sometime in the near future, because I will sure pay again to hopefully get to make it. I am sorry I missed your show Kenny.

What could I possibly write, but that Kenny put on another wonderful show. Perfect weather, under a starry sky, at Merriweather Post Pavilion, last night. There is a reason that Kenny has won eight Entertainer Of The Year Awards, he is simply a perfectionist and puts on THE best show I see all summer long. He is here and there and everywhere, working the stage and catwalk unlike anyone else in country music. His songs are fun to sing-a-long with a few thousand No Shoes Nation fans. Kenny ALWAYS delivers a great show!

Kenny Chesney Announces 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour: 'Can't Wait to Get Back Out There'

The country singer will bring Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker on the road with him

Kenny Chesney is bringing "the good stuff" to the road.

On Tuesday, the country singer, 55, announced he'll be embarking on his Sun Goes Down Tour in 2024.

The 18-show run is set to kick off on April 20 in Tampa, Florida, making stops in cities including Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and more, before wrapping on Aug. 23 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Tickets are set to go on-sale on Friday Nov. 17.

Joining the "There Goes My Life" musician on the road as support are Zac Brown Band , Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker.

“I wanted a name that suggested – obviously – when all the good stuff starts to happen. The one thing I’ve learned about No Shoes Nation and these stadium shows is they start the good times early and they just keep it going,” Chesney says of his 2024 tour name in a press release statement. “But we all know, when the sun goes down, that’s when people really get loose and enjoy themselves."

He added: “So, I can’t wait to get back out there, stadium-sized ’cause there’s nothing like 60,000 members of No Shoes Nation singing these songs. It’s gonna be awesome.”

After nearly two dozen shows, Chesney wrapped his  I Go Back Tour  with  Kelsea Ballerini  in July.

In March, he celebrated his 55th birthday  on a private plane  with friends, including the "Heartfirst" performer, after performing in State College, Pennsylvania.

Ballerini helped lead an enthusiastic rendition of "Happy Birthday" for Chesney while performing at Penn State University's Bryce Jordan Center.

"I'd be a bad friend if I didn't ask all of you at this sold-out show on a Saturday night at Penn State to sing happy birthday," Ballerini, 30, said in the video Chesney shared, before leading the crowd of over 15,000 in a rendition of "Happy Birthday" in honor of the acclaimed country singer.

"Thank you, @KelseaBallerini and State College, PA, for the birthday song," he wrote alongside the video. "What a night."

Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band announce 2024 stadium tour: How to get tickets

Portrait of Marcus K. Dowling

Country artist icon Kenny Chesney will take on 18 cities in the Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour.

Chesney will be joined by Grammy winners the Zac Brown Band , "Tennessee Orange" vocalist Megan Moroney and Chesney's multiple-week No. 1 "When the Sun Goes Down" duet partner Uncle Kracker — himself known for the hits "Follow Me" and "Drift Away."

The tour kicks off at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on April 20. Tickets go on sale Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. local time at kennychesney.com/tour .

Twenty years have elapsed since Chesney's chart-topping collaboration with Uncle Kracker, a fact not lost on the performer when naming his tour of over a dozen stadiums in 2024.

"I wanted a name that suggested — obviously — when all the good stuff starts to happen. The one thing I've learned about No Shoes Nation and these stadium shows is they start the good times early and they just keep it going," Chesney noted in a press statement.

"But we all know, when the sun goes down, that's when people really get loose and enjoy themselves," he added. "That was the thing about Uncle Kracker and my song. It captured a vibe and a moment so perfectly. No matter how much fun you're having all day long, 'everything gets hotter when the sun goes down...' I know from years of experience that's true."

Chesney — who is the only country artist to be on Billboard's Top 10 Touring Artists of the Last 25 Years — will close out the tour, as is tradition, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Aug. 23, 2024.

About his tourmates, Chesney adds:

"Zac Brown Band understands high-energy country, the same way Alabama did, and they've got our friend Caroline Jones in their line-up now, too. Megan Moroney isn't just one of the smart new voices in country; she's really bringing a sense of heart and joy to the music — and I'm fired up to be bringing her out to No Shoes Nation. And Uncle Kracker has been part of so many fun times, crazy moments and memories made, it always kicks things up a notch when he's out there with us. So, it really is old friends, new friends and a whole lotta love."

See Kenny Chesney’s 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour Setlist

Kenny Chesney launched his massive 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour on Saturday (April 20). The country veteran enlisted the help of Zac Brown Band and Megan Moroney to open for him, alongside duet partner  Uncle Kracker -— with whom he collaborated on the song "When the Sun Goes Down."

The setlist is a jukebox of Chesney's biggest hits with a few surprises in between. Mixed in with singalongs including "Beer in Mexico", "Summertime" and "American Kids" are a handful of covers including Mentor Williams' "Drift Away" and "Come Monday," which is a special tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett .

To top it off, the country hitmaker returns to the stage for an encore presentation of "Don't Happen Twice."

Kenny Chesney's 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour

Chesney's 18-date stadium tour will put the "Take Her Home" singer in some of the biggest venues he's ever played. The trek will run through Aug. 17 before wrapping with three shows at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., from Aug. 23-25.

“I wanted a name that suggested — obviously — when all the good stuff starts to happen. The one thing I’ve learned about No Shoes Nation and these stadium shows is they start the good times early and they just keep it going,” Chesney says of the tour . “But we all know, when the sun goes down, that’s when people really get loose and enjoy themselves."

Country music legend says his heart is full after ending tour in front of nearly 200,000 fans

Kenny Chesney said he needed a couple of days to process it all.

The country music legend closed out another long, successful tour over the weekend with a three-show slate at Gilette Stadium.

  • WANT MORE COUNTRY MUSIC NEWS? CLICK HERE.

He packed the house, performing in front of more than 180,000 people across the three-day finale. And, he said, that was pretty awesome, and also … a little sad.

“So a bittersweet goodbye to the 2024 #SunGoesDownTour,” he wrote on X. “I’m a touch tired for sure. But my heart and soul is so full from all the faces we saw this year. The energy, the laughter, and all the music will live within me forever.”

Chesney said he needed to take the time before posting just to make sure the Gilette Stadium slate “wasn’t an illusion or a dream.”

“The ringing in my ears tells me it really happened, that it was real,” he wrote. “I’ve never felt so much love and raw energy at once, and it kept growing after each night.”

Turns out, the tour closing dates also have a special meaning to Chesney because of the relationship he forged with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft nearly 20 years ago that helped make it all possible.

It all began with Chesney and Kraft taking a bit of gamble that resulted in them forging a close bond, according to a story from MassLive’s Ronnie Ramos.

The first step came in 2005 when Chesney booked Gilette Stadium for a show. Per MassLive , playing such a big venue was uncommon back then, and Kraft told the site he was “grateful” that Chesney had the confidence to do it. And so, Kraft said, he invited Chesney to lunch.

“How many stadium or team owners take the time to come down and have a meal, ask about your friends or your family?” Chesney said.

Chesney’s career was already rolling strong, but as the weekend numbers show, the relationship served a springboard to bigger things. And it also became about more than business. MassLive’s story highlighted that, and dove into how Chesney and Kraft now consider one another family.

“He’s an extended member of our family,” Kraft said. “He’s a very special human being. Very empathetic.”

Kraft’s support has not been lost on Chesney.

“Mr. Kraft heard something in me or felt something vibrating with the fans, and he went for it, too,” Chesney told MassLive. “He embraced us so completely in those first years. He took us — me, my band, my road family, even the fans — on as something he believed in. That means a lot. The caring Mr. Kraft has shown us has been incredible.

“Mr. Kraft told my father several years ago, and it meant so much to my dad, that we were family,” Chesney told the site. “People don’t just do that or say that. But it’s very, very true. And it goes for Mr. Kraft, his son, and his entire organization have made us feel so welcome and part of their family for years.”

To read more about Chesney and Kraft’s relationship and how it helped springboard his career into the big, tour closing slate, check out MassLive’s story here.

With the dust settled on the monster weekend at Gilette, Chesney thanked Zac Brown Band, Uncle Kracker and Megan Moroney for performing on tour. And he delivered a message to his fans.

“I love all of you and thank you,” he said. “I’m going to go jump in the ocean now. See ya when I see ya.”

Chesney's band releases new album in Boston, 'Super Bowl' of No Shoes Nation

Rosie & The Revival band

Kenny Chesney’s band is stepping out. And like many other Chesney traditions, it happened in Massachusetts.

The accomplished veteran band that spends its summer playing for the country music superstar, discovered its own sound during sound checks and backstage jam sessions. Out of those moments, and with Chesney’s encouragement, the six members — Rosie & The Revival — released their own album this weekend.

Kenny Chesney and the band performed at three sold-out concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“Soundchecks + Tape Decks” features 11 tracks, a mix of covers songs and originals. It was recorded in Nashville, between their own commitments and Chesney’s tour.

The project was an evolution born of the unique chemistry among the band members: Wyatt Beard, Nick Buda, Jon Conley, Kenny Greenberg, Harmoni Kelley, and Danny Rader.

“We knew we had something special, on and off stage,” Beard said, as the band members talked exclusively with MassLive backstage before the Friday night Chesney show at Gillette Stadium . “There’s just something unique going on with this band.”

The current configuration of the band has been together since 2022, with guitarist Radar and drummer Buda joining Chesney band veterans Beard (keyboards), Kelley (bass), Conley (guitar and fiddle) and Greenberg (guitar).

The band routinely did cover songs during sound checks, including the AC/DC hit “Whole Lotta Rosie,” which Kenny added to his shows for years. The band would do other covers and eventually had several they liked.

“Kenny [Chesney] said, ‘You guys should do a record,’” Kelley said. “It kind of evolved from that soundcheck, cover-song vibe. He allowed us the space to have fun. He’s really good about nurturing that creative, fun environment.”

The band didn’t want to do an album of covers. “The writing was the obvious next step,” Buda said. “Everything has been such a band-focused thing, which is awesome. And we still like each other.”

The album’s first track, “Just Getting Started,” is getting airplay on No Shoes Radio , Channel 57 on Sirius XM. The entire album is available on Spotify and other streaming services.

Chesney’s support for the project included wanting the band to announce and release their album at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, the tour’s final stop.

“What better time than this weekend, the Super Bowl of No Shoes Nation?” Buda said.
