Hippie Sabotage is a Sacramento born, LA based production duo made up of brothers Kevin & Jeff Saurer. The duo got their start as bedroom producers in middle school after obsessing over the music used in their favorite skateboarding videos. In 2014, Hippie Sabotage skyrocketed to #1 on Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart after releasing their remix of Tove Lo’s ‘Habits (Stay High)’ (752M YouTube Plays) and have since surpassed over 1 Billion Spotify Streams. In 2019, Hippie Sabotage performed at festivals like Austin City Limits, Made In America, Day N Vegas, Bumbershoot, Electric Forest, Corona Capital, Splash House and more. Their sound is rooted in electronic music, but it takes cues from hip hop, psych rock, and chill wave, all pulled together by Jeff’s killer guitar skills and Kevin’s explosive personality on stage.

Hippie sabotage announce 46-date ‘rooms of hallucination’ tour.

Chill-wave music duo Hippie Sabotage are making their much-anticipated return to the road and have announced a 46-date Rooms Of Hallucination tour across North America.

Kicking off in early 2022, the “Devil Eyes” producers will head out on January 8th for seven headlining shows throughout California and continue making their way throughout Washington, Montana, and Idaho. From there, the duo – comprised of brothers Kevin and Jeff Saurer – will headline Salt Lake City, UT’s Union Event Center on January 29th before continuing throughout almost every U.S. state through May, including a finale performance at at Morrison, CO’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 5th. Regular Hippie Sabotage collaborator and British singer-songwriter Daisy Guttridge will provide support on the tour.

After having their The Beautiful Beyond tour cut short due to the pandemic, Rooms Of Hallucination tour will see the brother duo back in action at their highest peak in their career yet. Having released their debut LP Red Moon Rising at the end of 2020 during the intense wave of COVID-19, the duo continues to be an inspiration to fans through their hip-hop, electronic psych-rock sound. The duo is set to release their new project, Floating Palace , this fall ahead of their tour.

Hippie Sabotage: New Aged Hippies [Exclusive Interview]

Brothers Kevin and Jeff Saurer have been making music together for over a decade and there’s no sign of them stopping. With over 7 EP and album releases in the last 5 years, the musical combination of electronic, jam, and hip-hop have landed these guys on some major festival lineups. From Bonnaroo to Buku to Global Dance , this high-energy duo is traveling across the country to showcase their talent and we got a chance to sit down and chat with them.

Festival Squad: Your sound is very unique. There’s not a lot of brother-producers that also use instruments & their own voices. At what point did you two know you guys wanted to incorporate that into your music and shows?

Hippie Sabotage:   We never thought we’d be singing or using our own vocals. It started when Jeff was going to music school at UCSD. His final project had to be based on your worst skill set, and that was singing. We created an alias called Johnny Long Chord and put out an EP of all singing songs and that’s how we started using our own vocals. Instrument-wise, we’ve always incorporated live instruments whether we’re playing them or we bring in other musicians. We listened to a lot of DJ Khalil beats growing up and his production was the perfect mix of hard-hitting beats with live instruments.

Festival Squad:  Your music tends to be more melodic and acoustic. What inspired the darkness of Save Me ?

Hippie Sabotage:  We had been wanting to make a song with a darker more metal sounding guitar riff. We had this hook and beat for about a week with just drums and vocals then Kevin told me to play something gritty one day and that’s what came out.

Festival Squad:  Your live shows are insanely high energy, what keeps you excited and willing to exert so much?

Hippie Sabotage:  We know that this doesn’t last forever and we are forever grateful for our fans, so whether there is one person in the crowd or a couple thousand we give it the same energy every time. Also, what’s better than hearing your music on insanely loud big speakers and seeing peoples reactions?

Festival Squad:  I’m obsessed with Supa Bwe , Black Aladdin is magical. What else can we expect from the production side of Hippie Sabotage?

Hippie Sabotage:   We got a ton of songs we produced coming out in 2018. Supa Bwe is homies with Kembe X, and we all linked one day in LA and made that song in, like, an hour. We just dropped an EP with Azizi Gibson called Hentai and, of course, we got a ton of originals in the bag were gonna drop once we get back home. Whatever we feel, we put out.

Festival Squad:  You clearly embrace the laid back, glorious, ganja-loving hippie persona, so I have to ask— Indica or Sativa?

Hippe Sabotage:   Sativa for working. Indica for sleeping.

Festival Squad: If you had to choose one song to play on repeat for 24 hours, what would it be?

Hippie Sabotage:  House of the Rising Sun – The Animals.

Hippie Sabotage:  We’ve had people crowd surf on the stage during the stage rushes. Our first show ever in London the stage got so packed the table collapsed and our tour manager had to sit under it and hold it up for the rest of the show. It was awesome.

Festival Squad: Considering you’re from NorCal, are you ever tempted to incorporate Bay-based artists or tracks? If you were to consider, who would you feature?

Hippie Sabotage:  Definitely, we come from the hip-hop scene in NorCal and we used to work out of the studios in Sacramento where a lot of the bay cats recorded. Our first placement ever in stores was with Yukmouth.  We had three songs and the title track on his album Free At Last . We also got a song with Larry June were sitting on and a bunch of joints with Plus Money .

Festival Squad:   On your current Path Of Righteousness Tour , aside from your musical evolution, what sets it farthest apart from your very first tour? I was at the San Francisco stop it was unreal.

Talking Tunes, Tours, and Life on the Road with Hippie Sabotage

The official discography dates back to 2013 with the Vacants EP; Hippie Sabotage is now on its fourth full-length album, Drifter , which was released in 2017. In that time, the twosome has collaborated with a wide range of producers and rappers, from Chase Moore to Alex Wiley.

Hippie Sabotage is best-known, however, for its intense, on-stage energy and high-octane live performances, both crucial elements to the Saurers’ music. “People understand the music more; they’re more accepting of the evolutionary changes we’re making in our music,” Kevin tells The Manual. When asked about where their music would fall on the spectrum of EDM, they say that the in-person element “allows us to be on both ends of the spectrum at the same time.”

“Our shows are really hype, and our music is known as being really chill, so the live aspect … gives us more artistic freedom,” Jeff elaborates.

As much fun as it is, the Saurers can take a beating during their live performances — especially their clothes. “You sweat a lot, a lot of trash cans get thrown around the place. The clothes get wrecked each night. Honestly, you can tell how great the show is by how wrecked our clothes are.”

The Saurers are about to kick off an extensive tour across most the United States, which eventually wraps up in March. That means the brothers will be on the road during the coldest months of the year. So how do they prep for a long trip, especially when it’s so chilly?

Simple: cheap, easy-to-replenish essentials. “We make a lot of Wal-Mart trips for cold weather gear, because you can get $6 sweatshirts ,” says Hippie Sabotage.

The key is not to spend too much money on clothing that’s going to get ruined anyways. Instead, the Saurers splurge on daily indulgences, from the stuff that gets you going in the morning to brand-new undergarments. “White tees and boxers. Coffee and weed. And socks ! We like to get new pairs every day,” they say. “Puts you in the mood to say hello to the world. You feel like a new man.”

The most important essential for a tour (or road trip , considering most of us aren’t touring musicians) is the tunage. “We love road trip music. We listen to whatever is new, to be honest. There’s this wave of younger 18-year-olds that we love right now,” says Hippie Saborage. Standouts for them include The Lemon Twigs , Steve Lacey , and Young Dolph .

But you’ve always got to make room for the classics, especially on the road. The Saurers’ faves range rock gods like The Doors, Cream, and Pink Floyd to old-school hip-hop from Wu-Tang Clan and Dr. Dre (specifically The Chronic and 2001 ).

“It depends on what mood we’re in,” says Hippie Sabotage — and who wouldn’t agree? As the Saurers put it perfectly, when you’re driving through the forest, you want something more “relaxing,” but if you’re driving “through the desert and smoking a blunt ,” you need something more upbeat.

“The question we get asked more frequently is life advice,” the Saurers elaborate. “What we say is stay positive and enjoy your life. Focus. Keeping that positive perspective will keep you moving forward. It’s the mindset we have for playing music, being on the road.”

With four albums and countless EPs and remixes, it’s hard to know where to start exploring Hippie Sabotage’s music if you’re new to the band. We asked the Saurers for their top picks for new listeners: Jeff suggests “ Righteous ” and Kevin recommends “ Waiting Too Long ,” “ Devil Eyes ,” and “ Om .”

Although it's now making television in an incredibly crowded landscape, Starz has managed to regularly launch shows that make an impact, and it speaks to the enduring quality of these shows that they've also stood the test of time. These shows have also spanned a wide array of genres, making viewers laugh and weep, often in equal measure. Through it all, though, these Starz shows have proven it can reliably make shows that touch viewers and endure for years after their time on the air has concluded.

Party Down (2009)

Having a vast library of good television shows and films is the most important factor in the success of a streaming service. That's part of what transformed Netflix into a global phenomenon, and it's why services like Paramount Plus have worked hard to build a healthy library of series that subscribers can browse through. As is the case with all streaming services, Paramount Plus has a mix of original series that live only on the platform and older shows that were originally on broadcast and have now found a home on streaming. Although these shows have varied histories, each one of them is a great staple in Paramount Plus's overall streaming library. Paramount Plus will likely continue to develop original content, but these Paramount Plus shows will stand the test of time, whether they're ongoing or have been over for a decade or longer.

Penny Dreadful (2014)

The review embargo for Joker: Folie a Deux has lifted following the film's premiere at the Venice Film Festival, which means we finally know what critics think about the sequel to the 2019 smash hit. The reviews are largely positive, but some suggest that the movie might not be quite as compelling as the first installment, and that it doesn't have the same electrifying spine as its predecessor.

IGN gave the movie a 5/10 and wrote, "Despite the best efforts of Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, and an opening hour set in Arkham Asylum, Joker: Folie à Deux wastes its potential as a movie musical, a courtroom drama, and a sequel that has anything meaningful to say about or add to the first Joker."
