Egypt Passport and Visa Requirements for Indian Travelers

Passport  – Everyone who visits Egypt, including Indian nationals, must be in possession of a valid passport. Your passport should also have at least one blank page, and it must have at least 6 months validity remaining. If you are planning on booking one of our multi-destination Egypt tours from India, you will need at least one blank page in your passport for each country featured in your chosen tour itinerary.

Visas  – At the time of this post being written, people who are traveling on an Indian passport are not able to apply for a Visa-On-Arrival in Egypt. They also cannot apply for an online Egypt e-Visa. In other words, if you will be traveling on an Indian passport, you will have to apply for your Egypt tourist visa at an Egyptian embassy or consular office in India.

In addition to passport-sized photos and your visa application form, you will also be asked to submit a number of other supporting documentation. For example you will need to provide a copy of your bank statement showing that you have sufficient funds to support yourself while you are in Egypt. You may also be asked for a copy of your planned tour itinerary and etc.

The front half of the building is original, while Abd El-Rahman built the back half. The Al-Azhar Mosque is ideally located at the centre of Cairo's Islamic district and is reachable through taxi. This little church-filled cluster of winding lanes is within the walls of Old Babylon, in which the Roman Emperor Trajan originally built a fortification along the river Nile. Several Roman towers still guard the main street. Magnificent examples of Coptic architecture can be seen next door at the Hanging Church since ninth century. The "other pyramids" are situated in the enormous Saqqara necropolis and the nearby site of Dahshur. Seeing them in a single day is equally enjoyable as seeing the Giza pyramids. The locations are about 30 km south of Cairo. Saqqara's most well-known tourist spot is the Step Pyramid. However, the entire region is studded with beautifully decorated tombs, well worth spending a few hours examining. In April 2020, the Royal Mummies Collection relocated to this building and became the centre of attraction. The most famous Pharaonic mummies from Egypt are presently displayed here, though the museum's entire collection remains far from complete. Khan el-Khalili is a souq (bazaar), a maze-like labyrinth of narrow alleyways built as just a commercial centre in 1400 CE, and is still alive with the clanging of silversmiths and metallurgists. Sultan Hassan Mosque, one of the best Mamluk architectural examples in the world, is a marvel of Islamic artistry with a wealth of stalagmite detailing and exquisite pirouette motifs. It was built for Sultan Hassan el-Nasir between 1356 and 1363. The south keeper's minaret is Cairo's highest at 81.5 meters, and the large main doorway at the northern corner is over 26 meters high. The entrance opens into a domed vestibule, preceded by a tiny antechamber and a corridor leading to the ornate open court built around a lavatory fountain. One of the most important collections of Middle Eastern art is found in Cairo's Museum of Islamic Art. After sustaining extensive damage in a car bomb attack in 2014, the institution had to shut its doors to visitors for a long time, but it has since reopened.  The exhibit features, among other things, Ayyubid ceramics, frescoes, beautifully patterned wood inlay, coinage, sculpted marble headstones, and jewel-toned rugs. Bab Zuweila is the most interesting of all the gates in the Historic Cairo area. This 11th-century remnant from the dark ages offers magnificent rooftop views of the entire neighborhood if you reach the top. The gate features two religious symbols and is the remaining southern entrance to the old town.  The Sheikh al-Mu'ayyad Mosque's red-and-white stonework is right across the street. A short walk away is the intriguing artisan shops on the Street of Tentmakers, where vivid Egyptian fabric is used for weddings and other special occasions offered in huge volumes. Ahmed Ibn Tulun, the ruler of the Abbasid dynasty, built the Ibn Tulun Mosque, the second-oldest mosque currently standing in Cairo, between 876 and 879 CE. It was the largest mosque in the world while it was constructed. Numerous surviving remnants of the elaborate frieze work probably are found in the colonnades of the main court, which open onto a variety of halls with smaller fronts. The green center of the Historic Cairo district is Al-Azhar Park, constructed over a medieval garbage dump. It was founded in 2005 and provided a much-needed break from Cairo's bustling streets' crowded mayhem. Israeli strikes across Gaza killed 29 people, including young quintuplets, overnight and into Sunday, health officials said, as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel to try to seal a cease-fire deal that could help ease soaring regional tensions.

The US and fellow mediators Egypt and Qatar have said they were closing in on a deal after two days of talks in Doha, with Israeli officials expressing cautious optimism. But Hamas in a statement on Sunday accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of setting new conditions, including his refusal of a complete withdrawal of forces from Gaza.

The evolving proposal calls for a three-phase process in which Hamas would release all hostages abducted during its October 7 attack, which triggered the deadliest war fought between Israelis and Palestinians. In exchange, Israel would withdraw its forces from Gaza and release Palestinian prisoners.

The war has killed over 40,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities, displaced the vast majority of the territory’s 2.3 million residents and led experts to warn of famine and the outbreak of diseases like polio.

"It is as if we live a primitive life", said Sanaa Akela, a displaced Palestinian in the central town of Deir al-Balah, where sewage flooded some streets.

Hamas-led militants killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in the October 7 attack and abducted around 250. Of those, some 110 are still believed to be in Gaza, though Israeli authorities say around a third are dead. More than 100 hostages were released in November during a week-long cease-fire.

The latest Israeli bombardment included a strike on a home in Deir al-Balah that killed a woman and her six children, according to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. An Associated Press reporter there counted the bodies.

Mohammed Awad Khatab, the children’s grandfather, said his daughter was a teacher, and the youngest child was 18 months. The others were 10-year-old quintuplets, the hospital said.

“The six children have become body parts. They were placed in a single bag,” Khatab told reporters. “What did they do? Did they kill any of the Jews? ... Will this provide security to Israel?”

Another strike east of Deir al-Balah killed at least four people, according to an AP journalist at the hospital. A strike in the northern town of Jabaliya hit two apartments, killing two men, a woman and her daughter, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Another two strikes in central Gaza killed nine people, according to Al-Awda Hospital. A strike in Nuseirat killed one person, the hospital said.

Late Saturday, a strike near the southern city of Khan Younis killed four people from the same family, including two women, according to Nasser Hospital.

Israel says it only targets militants and blames civilian deaths on Hamas because the group places fighters, weapons, tunnels and rockets in residential areas. But the Israeli bombardment has wiped out entire extended families and orphaned thousands of children.

Mediation efforts gained new urgency after the targeted killing of two top militants last month, both attributed to Israel, brought vows of revenge from Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah, raising fears of all-out war across the Middle East.

An American official said Friday that mediators were beginning preparations for implementing the latest cease-fire proposal, and Netanyahu’s office expressed “cautious optimism” a deal could be reached.

An Israeli delegation was travelling to Cairo on Sunday for further talks, and Blinken will meet with Netanyahu on Monday. Blinken will travel to Egypt on Tuesday for meetings with officials there, the State Department said, and may stop in at least one other regional country.

Netanyahu told a Cabinet meeting there are areas where Israel can be flexible and unspecified areas where it won’t be. “We are conducting negotiations and not a scenario in which we just give and give,” he said.

Hamas has cast doubt on whether an agreement is near, saying the latest proposal diverged significantly from a previous iteration it accepted in principle. Hamas has rejected Israel’s demands for a lasting military presence along the Gaza-Egypt border and a line bisecting Gaza where Israeli forces would search Palestinians returning to their homes. Israel says both are needed to prevent militants from rearming and returning to the north.

Israel showed flexibility on retreating from the border corridor, and a meeting between Egyptian and Israeli military officials was scheduled for the week ahead to agree on a withdrawal mechanism, according to two Egyptian officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss the private negotiations.

In Lebanon, three UN peacekeepers were lightly wounded when an explosion struck their vehicle near the southern village of Yarin. The peacekeeping mission said the incident was under investigation.

Hezbollah began launching near-daily drone and rocket attacks along the border after the war in Gaza began, drawing Israeli retaliation in a cycle of violence that has steadily escalated.

BOYS WILL BE BOYZ

Sky Documentaries has unveiled plans for “ Boyzone ,” a three-part documentary series that will examine the trials and tribulations of Irish boyband and 1990s pop sensation Boyzone .

The series is a Curious Films production, commissioned for Sky Documentaries by Poppy Dixon , director of documentaries and factual, and Tom Barry, commissioning editor. Executive producers for Sky are Tom Barry and Hayley Reynolds, acting director of documentaries and factual. It is directed by Sophie Oliver and executive produced by Dov Freedman and Charlie Russell.

Exiled Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof has been set as the head of the jury for the new currents competition section at October’s Busan International Film Festival . His works include “A Man of Integrity” (2017), “There Is No Evil” (2020) and the recent “The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” which he presented this year in Cannes after escaping from Iran. Rasoulof served a prison sentence in 2022 for criticizing the government and was then sentenced to a further eight years of jail.

Others on the jury include Korean film director Lee Myung-se , Chinese woman actor Zhou Dongyu (“Soul Mate,” “Better Days”), Indian woman actor Kani Kusruti (“Biriyaani” and 2024 Sundance audience award-winner “Girls Will Be Girls”) and Vanya Kaludjercic , festival director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

SCREENWRITERS’ SOIREE SELECTS SIX

India’s National Film Development Corporation ( NFDC ) has chosen six projects for its 17th annual Screenwriters’ Lab. Selected projects include Aakash Chhabra’s “I’ll Smile in September,” which previously participated at the 2023 Busan Asian Project Market , following a brass band player’s quest to recover from heartbreak; and Triparna Maiti’s “Mangal – The Holy Beast,” chronicling an elephant’s journey from captivity to deity status, which participated at the Annecy MIFA Pitch earlier this year and is headed to the 2024 Busan Asian Project Market.

The other chosen projects are Anuritta K. Jha’s “Hawa Mithai,” about a village boy’s fantastical journey to eat the Sun; Anam Danish’s “Kalaa Kaali,” exploring a family’s generational curse; Uddhav Ghosh’s “Konyak,” depicting tribal warfare in Nagaland; and Piyush Srivastava’s “Piyush Ki Toh…Nikal Padi,” a comedy about a man hiding his bedwetting problem from his in-laws.

The three-part program, running for five months, pairs writers with mentors including Marten Rabarts , Claire Dobbin and Ritesh Shah . Projects will be pitched to producers and investors at Film Bazaar at Goa, India in November.

CULINARY BATTLE

Netflix has set Sept. 17 as the premiere date for its “Culinary Class Wars,” a Korean unscripted series that brings together 100 chefs in a kitchen battle. It features “black spoon” hidden masters — home-meal restaurant chefs, trendy pub owners, and more — who go head-to-head against Korea’s top “white spoon” star chefs, such as Michelin-starred chefs, culinary survival show winners, and those who have made history in the culinary world. The show features two legendary judges: Paik Jong-won , Korea’s top restaurateur and national culinary mentor, and Anh Sung-jae of Mosu Seoul, Korea’s only three-star Michelin restaurant.

The show is directed by Kim Hak-min and Kim Eun-ji , written by Mo Eun-sol and is produced by Studio Slam.

ADELAIDE ANNOUCEMENT

The Adelaide Film Festival has announced the first six films which will screen at the festival in October, including the world premiere of  “The Correspondent” as the event’s opening film on Oct. 23. “The Correspondent,” directed by Kriv Stenders, stars Richard Roxburgh as Australian war correspondent Peter Greste who was arrested and jailed in Cairo, Egypt in 2013, while working for broadcaster Al Jazeera.

The other five titles are “All We Imagine as Light,” Payal Kapadia’s Cannes Grand Prix-winner; Marielle Heller’s “Nightbitch,” with Amy Adams; the world premiere of Shalom Almond’s “Songs Inside,” with music from inside a prison; Apple Original film “Blitz,” directed by Steve McQueen ; and Zak Hilditch’s horror title “We Bury the Dead.” The festival runs Oct. 23 – Nov. 3.

Dotcom is the subject of a six-part narrative series “The Kim Dotcom Story,” written by British author James Payne (“The Window,” “Mr Selfridge,” “Hooten & The Lady”) which is now heading into at casting stage. The series is a co-production of ZDF Studios and Boogie Entertainment with Robert Franke, VP drama at ZDF Studios, and Rolant Hergert, producer and founder of Boogie Entertainment, as executive producers.

“In the autumn, we will be working with our New Zealand partners to further develop the cast and secure locations in Auckland and the surrounding area, including Dotcom’s spectacular estate,” said producer Rolant Hergert. It is set for completion in 2025.

Asian TV channels operator, Celestial Tiger Entertainment has launched new Chinese Movie subscription streaming app, CMGO, in Singapore. It debuted with both major platforms, Singtel and StarHub and cost S$6.98 per month.

CMGO offers a curation of the best movies from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. New and exclusive movies to catch on CMGO include Andy Lau-starring “I Did It My Way,” Aaron Kwok’s latest action comedy “Rob n Roll” and “The Goldfinger,” starring Andy Lau and Tony Leung Chiu-wai. Hong Kong blockbuster “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” will also be on CMGO later this year.
