Welcome to Open Days

328North - Guests and Tu Le (Brian Jones)

The 2024 Open Days Schedule is now online!

Visit america's best private gardens.

Fueling America’s passion for gardens, the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program is the only nationwide garden visiting program. We're a nationwide community of gardeners and garden enthusiasts teaching and inspiring each other and the public. From expert to novice, there is no better way to improve as a gardener than by experiencing a diverse range of gardens, and gardening traditions, firsthand.

Since 1995, Open Days has welcomed more than 1.4 million visitors into thousands of inspired private landscapes—from urban rooftops to organic farms, historic estates, to innovative suburban lots—in 41 states.

Open Days have become The Garden Conservancy’s best-known and most beloved program, and it is made possible by the hard work and generous support of hundreds of volunteers, garden hosts, and visitors. The Garden Conservancy is delighted to showcase America’s diverse regional horticultural and stylistic expressions for all to enjoy, and we hope to see you at an Open Day soon!

Tickets will be released online approximately two months in advance of an Open Day, around the first of the month. For 2024, our anticipated release dates are:

Registration All registrations must be processed online through The Garden Conservancy's website. Garden Hosts do not have the ability to collect payments or verify memberships onsite.

Tickets Once registered, you will receive an electronic ticket that includes all the information you need to visit your selected gardens, including the garden's address, location, parking instructions, and other information to help plan your vist.

You can still be spontaneous! Registration for gardens will remain live until the end of the Open Day or until all tickets have sold out.

SUPPORTING INCLUSIVE COLLABORATION

In March 2023, the government published its new strategy to make the UK a science and technology superpower by 2030. The plan draws on the industry, finance, academia, and civil society to realise its ambition. Cambridge has championed collaboration to become one of the leading science and technology clusters in the world. A reputation built on world-leading innovation, fast-growing science and tech companies, academia, and innovation centers - underpinned by investment, people, and skills. To support and further progress this world-leading position requires inclusive collaboration across the Cambridge community. Designed to provide the whole community a chance to visit and experience the cluster first-hand, o2h created Cambridge Wide Open Day.

ABOUT CAMBRIDGE WIDE OPEN DAY

In a first of its kind event, Cambridge Wide Open Day offered a unique insight into the city’s world-renowned science and technology. The Season 2 of this event will be held on 12th June 2024 welcoming visitors from across the Cambridge community - from scientists, techies, people working across different sectors to residents - to explore the innovations in Cambridge. Companies will open their doors from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm, and minibus and VIP tours are available. To top off the day, all participants are invited to a garden party reception at the o2h co-work labs at Hauxton House, Mill SciTech Park from 4.00 pm. Click the links below to sign up as an organisation to open your doors, join the open day or tour, or attend the garden reception party.

INSPIRING OUR COMMUNITY

Cambridge is alive and bursting with ideas, funding, IP, exciting companies, and new facilities. Cambridge Wide Open Day is an interactive day that encourages inclusive collaboration which is vital for the region’s further expansion and growth. This unique opportunity enables engagement across the broader community - from facilitating introductions to boost investment to finding bigger premises, to inspiring the next generation workforce. The open day is a unique opportunity for local residents to see what goes on behind the closed doors of pioneering companies in life sciences, technology, and green innovation. Cambridge Wide Open Day also welcomes visitors from outside Cambridge, around the country, and across the world that are curious to see what’s going on ‘inside’ Cambridge. There are also those outside Cambridge, around the country, and across the world that are more than curious to see what’s going on ‘inside’ Cambridge, and perhaps in time we could offer and embed a hosted ‘VIP’ tour as part of the Cambridge ‘wide’ Open Day.

A WIDE OPEN EVENT

Cambridge Wide Open Day has already attracted several leading organisations across the ecosystem including, Cambridge Science Park, Illumina, AstraZeneca, Cambridge Innovation Capital, Milner Therapeutics Institute, UKSPA, Judge Business School, and Start Codon. The event is also supported by other organisations in Cambridge such as The Combined Authority and local councils, Cambridge& and Form the Future. We look forward to meeting the companies spanning the breadth of innovative science and tech activities across Cambridgeshire: startups, big pharma, and tech, academia, incubators and investors, and public policy experts and representatives as well as the residential community and beyond.

TESTIMONIAL

open day tour

We had about 70 people turning up from the local community which was a really nice piece of engagement. It is something we may do time to time but the wider Cambridge coverage that Cambridge Wide Open Day enabled really brought it to another dimension. Really well done to you and the team.

Aline Charpentier

Creasallis prides itself at being part of the Babraham and wider Cambridge community of scientists and businesses. Having a Cambridge wide day such as this really allows us all to connect together, but allows others to see what a truly special place Cambridge is.

Zahra Jawad

We are delighted to be part of the Open Cambridge event. The Greater Cambridge region is at the centre of one of the most exciting science and technology clusters in the world.

Harriet Fear MBE

Congratulations to Prashant Shah for initiating the Cambridge Wide Open Day, a great new addition to the Cambridge Cluster Ecosystem. I wish it every success.

Dr Hermann Hauser

Huge congratulations, it was great to get to see what goes on behind closed doors that had been opened up so generously. I think it will help start to build a wider and then genuinely deeper understanding of what people around the city are working on, for local residents and the world.

Congratulations on a really amazing achievement today. The party at Hauxton House was so much fun. You create such an amazing inclusive and positive vibe.

Anne Bailey

I just wanted to congratulate you and your team on wonderful success of the first Cambridge Wide Open Day!!! Not only was the weather fab; but the excitement and energy was palpable.

Douglass Cuff

It’s a great idea to showcase and open the doors of what’s happening in Astex and Cambridge and to be known more widely amongst our peers and local community

Harren Jhoti

The Cambridge Wide Open Day was fantastic! Many congratulations!

Miranda Weston-Smith

It was great to see you both yesterday and well done again for organising such a great event, there was a really nice atmosphere throughout the afternoon!

Robbie Hyde

We felt it was very much eye opening. Garden event was a true success with a beautiful weather under your belt.

Elvina Petrenaite-Kartane

The Cambridge Open Day is going to be an important event in the history of Cambridgeshire. Science parks are a critical component of Cambridge and therefore it is vital to nurture this ecosystem.

Dr Nik Johnson

Brilliant event today mate. You should get a medal for doing it.

Prof. Tony Kouzarides

Open Cambridge is where innovation meets opportunity. Don't miss the chance to be a part of the premier networking event of 2023 and connect with the brightest minds in technology and business.

Dr Jason Mellad

I’m very much looking forward to the Cambridge 'wide' Open Day. It represents an exciting opportunity for bright and innovative minds to showcase their novel ideas. By working closely together in the Cambridge ecosystem, we can have a global impact and inspire the future generations to come.

Tim Guilliams PhD

Cambridge buildings are the home to some of the world’s most exciting technology businesses & business people – some fledgling, some mature. Most people rarely get the opportunity to see what goes on behind these closed doors of these bioscience, cleantech, gaming, deeptech, hardware & software pioneers. This Wide Open Day initiative moves from looking through the keyhole to unlocking the doors.

Paul Hughes

Behind closed doors the toughest challenges on human health are being tackled from defeating aging to curing disease using some of the most amazing kit and techniques. This day is an opportunity to open those doors and share what is happening.

Kristin-Anne Rutter

Open Cambridge is not just an event, it is an invite to be part of an ecosystem, working together to translate ideas and research into tomorrows future leaders and companies. With leading universities, hospitals, biotechs, Investors and accelerators, industry and most importantly, people to connect with, we create a net(work) to catch anyone that has the inspiration to want to change the world.

Bobby Kaura

Open Cambridge is the most important initiative for the local technology ecosystem since the founding of the Cambridge Network. It’s critical to erode barriers and nurture connections across science, tech and biotech as well as the wider regional community: the Open Day is a brilliant opportunity to do just that

MARTIN RIGBY

Open Cambridge is a fantastic opportunity for the community to experience entrepreneurial Cambridge, where breakthrough science impacts society. Come and talk to scientists and founders. Get inspired! You will see and feel what our passion is: Creating a better and a healthier place for all.

Alexandra Huener

We're delighted to be a part of the Cambridge Wide Open Day to raise awareness of opportunities for the broader community that science parks offer, as we look to redevelop Melbourn Science Park into a new campus for tech, techbio and lifescience businesses in the region.

Jamie Clyde

One more outstanding initiative by the o2h group that brings together the best of Cambridge. Not to be missed.

Everything you need to know about university open days

You’ve probably heard from your teachers, friends or parents about university open days and campus tours. But what exactly are they, and what can you get out of them? Let’s go through everything about uni open days step by step.

What's a university open day?

Why should you attend university open days  , when are university open days  , how do you book a place on an open day  , what can you expect on an open day  , how should you plan your university open day visit  , who should you take to a university open day  , what should you look for on an open day  , what questions should you ask at a university open day  , how many open days should you go to  , what should you do after your open day  , are university open days worth it  , remember: open days are not real life  .

An open day is when a university opens its doors to prospective students, letting you take a good look at the learning facilities, accommodation and social spaces. You get to speak to lecturers and student ambassadors to get a better idea about your potential degree programme and life on campus. It’s a great way to help you decide if a certain uni is the right fit for you.

Read more : How do you find open days?

Since you’ll be going to your chosen university for three years or more, you want to make sure you've made the most informed choice possible.

You’ll find lots of information about universities on their websites (and on ours, too!), but there are some important aspects about a uni that you can only experience on campus, which is what open days are great for.

This includes seeing the facilities first-hand, checking out the accommodation options, meeting some of your potential lecturers and simply just finding out what the uni’s atmosphere is like.

Read more : See our ten top reasons to go to an open day

Universities host open days throughout the year, but you’ll often find many unis choose to run open days between June and October. That’s because this is around the time students will start thinking about their uni choices.

See all upcoming open days on the Whatuni Open Day Calendar

Don’t worry if you can’t make a specific open day for a uni you’re interested in – get in touch with them and they might be able to arrange a private tour for you.

Read more : Find out more about when open days are happening

Found an open day you want to go to? Perfect! Open days are free to attend but you’ll need to book your place on them. Luckily, you can do this through Whatuni or the university’s website. Make sure you register your spot early, as spaces can fill up quickly.

If you miss an open day for a uni you wanted to visit, don’t panic. Like we said, open days happen throughout the year, so you’ll likely get another chance to check out the uni fairly soon.

Read more : How do you book a place on an open day?

All universities do open days slightly differently, but most of them will start around 10am and run until around 3pm. Sometimes they’ll host open days in the afternoon or evening, which is handy for students who could have school or work during the day.

Here are some examples of activities that you might get up to on a uni open day:

  • Campus tours
  • Practice lectures
  • Subject talks
  • Accommodation tours
  • Student meet and greets

Many unis will publish a timetable ahead of their open day, so make sure you check that out beforehand.

Read more : What's available on open days?

Once you’re booked on an open day, you should plan how you’re going to get to the uni. If you’re getting a lift or you’re driving, look up a route and see how long it takes to get there so you can arrive on time.

If the university has posted a timetable for the open day and you have options for what you’re doing while you’re there, pick out the activities you want to attend and plan your day. We’d also recommend setting some time aside to explore the local area to give you a better idea what it would be like to live there.

Got some questions about the uni that you can’t find out the answer to online or in a prospectus? Write them down in advance and plan to ask them to a lecturer or current student at the open day.

Pack a small bag to take with you on the day. We’d recommend bringing a notebook, a pen, a bottle of water and a phone charger just in case. There’s usually no dress code for open days, but we’d say you should wear some comfy shoes, as you’ll probably be on the move quite a bit during your visit.

Read more : Find out how to make the most of your open day visits

Bringing someone with you on a university open day is good for getting a second opinion on the uni. A lot of students will bring a parent with them, which is handy for getting a different point of view on where you could study.

Bringing an older sibling can be useful, especially if they’re already at uni or have been to uni before. They’ll be able to point out things that they’ve experienced that you might not have even thought of.

If you’ve got a friend who’s also thinking about going to the same uni, it can be good to bring them along for a second pair of eyes.

That being said, your open day visits are about finding out what you need for your future, so many students choose to go to open days alone. If you do bring someone, keep in mind that this is about your uni life, so make sure you see what you went to the uni for instead of letting them take over.

Read more : Check out the pros and cons of bringing someone with you on open days

Your degree programme is important, but so is the environment you live and study in. While you’re at an open day, you should keep an eye out for these sorts of thing:

  • Check how far apart the necessities are from where you'd be living
  • See what the Students’ Union is like
  • Explore the study areas
  • Food prices on campus
  • Think about part-time work opportunities

Read more : Our top picks for things to look for on open days

Open days are the perfect time to ask questions to students or staff at the uni. Have a think about what you need to know before you head to campus and write down any questions you might have. Here are a few top questions to get you started:

  • What are the best and worst parts of going to this uni?
  • What are the study resources like?
  • What student support is available?
  • What's the accommodation like?
  • Why should I choose this university?

Read more : Check out our top ten questions to ask on an open day

There’s no definite number of open days you should go to. It really depends on how you feel about your situation.

If you’ve got no idea what to expect from uni, we’d say it’s good to go to quite a few open days to get a better idea of what’s available. If you’re feeling confident about what you’re looking for, you probably only need to go to a couple of them.

You might get lucky and find your perfect uni on your first open day, or you might go to ten open days and take your time picking your top three from that list.

Read more : How many open days should you go to?

Getting the most out of these visits is as much about what you do after the day as before and during it.

Set up a list of the pros and cons – so that you can easily compare with other universities you visit; talk to the people you went with to get their opinions and look over all the reading material you picked up during the day.

If you're still unsure about the uni, you can always arrange a second viewing during term-time or a direct call with one of your potential lecturers to help you make a final decision.

Read more : Steps to take after an open day

We reckon uni open days are well worth the time. Researching unis online and getting prospectuses is important, but you have to remember that you’re getting information given to you by someone else. Going to an open day, seeing the campus with your own eyes, talking to lecturers and getting an idea of the atmosphere is an invaluable experience for making a personal choice that’s yours and yours alone.

Read more : Check out the pros and cons of going on open days

Universities need students in order to survive financially, and open days are a prime way for them to sell themselves to prospective students. They'll be looking to show themselves in the best light.

It’ll be a useful experience, but it won’t be a completely accurate reflection of what everyday life will be like at uni. As long as you keep that in mind though and try to be realistic, you won’t be in for a nasty shock come enrolment time.

If you want to get a more realistic look at what a university is like, many universities will be happy to give you a private tour during term time – just make sure you book in advance.

Now you have an idea about what to expect and do on open days, it’s time to see what events are coming up...

The event has been the home of success for Celine Boutier over the last two seasons, as the Frenchwoman finished second in 2022 before winning by two shots last year. Boutier, who had a magical week at the 2024 Olympics representing France in Paris, said she has had a lot of good thoughts about the golf course and is hoping to lean on her recent success again this week.

There will be 10 2024 LPGA Tour winners in Scotland, including recent Hall-of-Fame qualifier Lydia Ko, who won the gold medal at Le Golf National. Six past champions, along with five of the top 10 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and three dozen Olympians, are teeing it up at Dundonald, which is hosting the event for the third consecutive year.

Here’s a look at some of the featured groups at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open using  KPMG Performance Insights.

Thursday, 7:21 a.m.* – Brooke Henderson/Esther Henseleit/Patty Tavatanakit

Olympic silver medalist Esther Henseleit, who shot the second-lowest round of the day on Saturday at Le Golf National, returns to action in Scotland, where she finished T20 a year ago. Henseleit has notched three top-10 results this season, but two of them have come in major championships, so she is used to performing well on the big stage. According to KPMG Performance Insights, Henseleit was in the mix in Scotland a year ago thanks in large part to her putting. She was sixth in strokes gained putting for the week at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open in 2024. She’s 106th in that same category this season, per KPMG Performance Insights, so a solid week on the greens will be the difference for her this week as she works to ride the momentum from her finish in Paris.

Canadian Brooke Henderson is making her tournament debut and is coming into the week after finishing tied for 13th just outside of Paris. Henderson has notched seven top-10 finishes so far this season, the most recent of which is a tie for eighth in her home country at the CPKC Women’s Open. The 13-time LPGA Tour winner is 11th on Tour in strokes gained total this season, according to KPMG Performance Insights, mostly because of her ball striking. She’s 16th in both strokes gained tee to green and strokes gained off the tee. In Paris, she was third in strokes gained off the tee, and as she’s long talked about, Henderson is hopeful to keep giving herself chances and rolling in a few putts.

Like Henderson, Patty Tavatanakit is another major champion looking to continue a solid year. A winner already in 2024, Tavatanakit finished tied for sixth last year at the Women’s Scottish Open. She’s putting together a tidy campaign on the LPGA Tour this season, sitting seventh in strokes gained total, per KPMG Performance Insights. For the season, however, she’s 84th in strokes gained putting. Last year at the Women’s Scottish Open, she was eighth in that same statistic. That’ll be the difference, again, for her at Dundonald Links.

Thursday, 7:32 a.m.* – Celine Boutier/Gemma Dryburgh/Lydia Ko

Lydia Ko comes into the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open on a high, having completed her Olympic medal collection with a golden triumph in Paris. She also claimed her spot in the LPGA Hall of Fame after earning the final point needed for automatic qualification. Ko is hoping her on-fire flatstick made the trip from France to Scotland, as she was first in strokes gained putting at the Olympics. Using KPMG Performance Insights, Ko is 21st in that stat this season on the LPGA Tour and has put together a solid tee-to-green game, too, sitting at 12th in strokes gained total. She won the first event of the year at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and is as eager as ever to keep her golden run going at Dundonald Links.

Talk about horses for courses when it comes to Celine Boutier at the Women’s Scottish Open. Boutier, the defending champion, has had a bit of an up-and-down campaign by her standards, with just one top-10 finish this season, one that came all the way back in February. If there’s been anything that’s held her back this year, it’s been her driving, as she sits at 88th on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee, according to KPMG Performance Insights. But she still sits in the top 10 in the Rolex Rankings, and after going 2-1 at this event the last two years, she should be a threat once again at Dundonald Links.

Scottish hero Gemma Dryburgh finished tied for 44th at this event last year, but according to KPMG Performance Insights, she had as tidy a tournament as anyone with her ball striking. Dryburgh was 14th in strokes gained tee to green, eighth in strokes gained approach and third in strokes gained around the green. She’ll want to showcase a repeat performance in 2024 to try to climb the leaderboard as she looks to notch her third top-10 finish of the season and get closer to locking up a spot on the European Solheim Cup team.

Thursday, 12:21 p.m. – Lauren Coughlin/Charley Hull/Jin Young Ko

Lauren Coughlin finally broke through for her first LPGA Tour title at the CPKC Women’s Open, where she had a down-to-the-wire duel with Haeran Ryu in Calgary. Coughlin is playing some of the best golf of her career and heads to Scotland after three straight top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place showing at The Amundi Evian Championship. She has six top 10s this season and is 10th in strokes gained total for the year, according to KPMG Performance Insights. She finished tied for 55th at this event last season and will be keen to convert even more birdie opportunities in 2024, as she was 10th in strokes gained approach at Dundonald Links a year ago.

Former world No. 1 Jin Young Ko will return to Scotland for the first time since 2022. Ko has been a model of consistency so far this season, missing just one cut and recording four top-10 results, including a tie for second at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Ko has had a shockingly poor season with the driver, essentially sitting last on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee. She is also 57th in strokes gained around the green. That matters little when you’re fourth in strokes gained approach, per KPMG Performance Insights, but for Ko to find success this week – and through the balance of the busy season – she’ll look to tidy up the other parts of her game.

On the opposite end of the spectrum with the driver as compared to Ko is Charley Hull, as the Englishwoman is fourth on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee. Her putting has let her down this season, however, as, according to KPMG Performance Insights, she is 102nd in strokes gained putting. Hull finished tied for 35th last year in Scotland and managed to have a very tight short-game performance. She was eighth in strokes gained around the green and 21st in strokes gained putting at Dundonald Links. The big question for Hull is how her shoulder injury will hold up. She fell in the shower prior to the Olympics and opened with an 81 but recovered well. She shot rounds of 71-69-68 and finished T27 at Le Golf National.

Nypd raids rogue migrant encampment on randall’s island for second day.

It’s turning into a cat-and-mouse game between cops and rogue migrants on Randall’s Island.

NYPD and parks police officers stormed the Manhattan park for the second straight day on Thursday — breaking down what remained of an illegal migrant encampment and open-air market peddling drugs.

“We are stopping any illegal vending we see,” an NYPD inspector told The Post. “We’re taking away anything that’s going to lead to a dangerous condition — a few barbecues, a couple of propane bottles.

“This is going to take a while,” he continued. “We’re going to have to do this for some time to come.”

Cops busted one scooter-riding asylum seeker in the process.

Police said they also seized 11 mopeds, 11 empty tents, seven shopping carts, and shut down five illegal vending tables — while picking up trash and debris throughout the area.

NYPD raids Randall's Island migrant encampment.

But the defiant migrants not only jawed at New York’s Finest — they appeared poised to hoist their tents and tables once things cooled down, merely waiting out the show of force again.

“Inside Randall’s they don’t want to give shelter,” one migrant told The Post this week. “That’s why we live like this.”

Despite losing some of their merchandise, several migrants simply rolled up their tents and waited.

Cops first moved in on Wednesday to bust up a massive trash-strewn encampment outside the city-funded 3,000-bed mega-shelter on the island — with migrants camping out in at least 50 tents and peddling food, cigarettes and weed from a row of tables along a walking path.

Workers clean up the mess after police migrant raid.

On Thursday, more than 80 uniformed personnel — NYPD, FDNY and parks department cops and workers — converged on Randall’s Island shortly after 3 p.m.

Earlier in the day humanitarian workers contracted by the city showed up at the scene and tried to negotiate with the rogue migrant group, but left before the police showed up.

The workers, wearing uniforms labeled “Randall’s Island 2.0,” were hired by the city last year.

According to records, the city last year awarded Armand Corp. — a major city construction management consultant — a $695,000 emergency contract for “tent services” at the site.

Officials at City Hall did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the workers.

Later in the day, one migrant was placed in handcuffs after speeding over the Randall’s Island footbridge on a scooter, motoring into the contingent of police officers at the scene.

Migrant encampment broken up by cops.

Meanwhile, cops spread out throughout the area and confiscated merchandise, in some cases handing the migrants plastic trash bags to collect things.

“No, you can’t live in the park,” one cop told a group of asylum seekers. “We can give you a black garbage bag to put all these belongings in, but you’re going to have to pack up this tent and leave.”

In January, police and parks workers repeatedly dismantled a much smaller encampment on Randall’s Island, only to have them set up again overnight despite repeated warnings.

Our customers say.

“Excellent service, great trip” “We did a 2 night 3 day tour with this operator and it was faultless from the pick up to the return. Fabulous seeing Halong bay and well worth the money, we went on Royal palace cruise and we had a private balcony on the stern which was magical. Would definitely recommend and use again. ” Paul Devon-Row, 2019-12-31T17:00:00.000Z
“Fantastic day cruise in a beautiful place! Ha Long Bay is beautiful.” “Our entire family enjoyed a very relaxing day with our tour guide “Bruce Lee”. We hired the boat for just our family so that we could make the trip the most compatible with our family’s interests. We went kayaking, explored “Amazing Cave” and then went swimming at a small beach. The boat was perfect for our family. ” Steve W, 2019-09-30T17:00:00.000Z
“Ha Long Bay Tour” “We did the Ha Long Bay tour with Tony. First, Tony is an amazing tour guide - speaks English very well, is very knowledgeable and funny. We took the new expressway both ways and that was crucial in deciding which tour company to go with. You save 4 hours total of driving taking the expressway. The tour also goes the opposite way of other boats so you get way better photos since it’s not crowded. Highly recommend it. ” Clayton P, 2019-08-31T17:00:00.000Z
