Father Mike Schmitz goes on tour, will speak on Eucharist in 4 cities

Father Mike Schmitz, the popular Catholic priest known for “The Bible in a Year” and “The Catechism in a Year” podcasts, is hitting the road for a live tour this fall.

Schmitz will visit four cities for the “ Father Mike Schmitz on Tour: The Hour that Will Change Your Life ” tour, making stops in Columbus, Ohio; Akron, Ohio; Indianapolis; and St. Louis from Oct. 21–24.

According to a press release , the tour comes as part of Schmitz’s ongoing fundraising efforts to build a new Catholic campus ministry center for the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he is the chaplain, as part of an assignment given to him by his local ordinary, Bishop Daniel Felton.

The current worship space used is a converted two-car garage. The new center will include a student center to welcome students, a new church for worship, and a new recording studio to help Schmitz with his digital evangelization.

After being a part of a tour earlier this year with psychologist and author Jordan Peterson, acting as host for the Q&A portion of Peterson’s show, Schmitz was approached to see if he was interested in having his own tour. Hesitant at first, someone then brought up the idea of using the tour to help raise funds for the ministry center on campus. 

Schmitz said the other factor that intrigued him about doing a small tour was the opportunity to connect with people in person.

“There’s this kind of, you know, virtual relationship, but I haven’t necessarily been in the same space as a lot of folks who have been exposed to things like the homily podcast or ‘Ascension Presents’ or the ‘Bible’ or ‘Catechism in a Year.’ And so the idea was like, well, maybe to be all in the same place,” he told CNA in an interview. “Especially as human beings we’re wired to connect — we’re wired for connection — and so an opportunity to say let’s connect, not just virtually, let’s connect actually in the same space.”

Schmitz explained that the show will be split into two halves — the first being a talk he will give on the Eucharist and the second being a Q&A.

“I love speaking about the Eucharist,” Schmitz shared. “The Eucharist is everything, and so to be able to talk about the Eucharist in a way that hopefully is compelling and opens people’s hearts and minds to how God loves them in the Eucharist and to be able to love him back.”

The Q&A will then serve as the more “personal and relational” part of the show and will allow people “to show up with their questions, and I’ll be able to do my best at least to offer some kind of answer,” he said.

Schmitz said he hopes that those who attend a show will get a true sense of “connection” and that it will serve as an opportunity for people to invite friends or family who “maybe need to hear about the love God has for them in the Eucharist.”

“Also, there’s something about showing up for an event, because almost every talk or teaching could be online, everything could be virtual, but I think there’s something really powerful and special about having the opportunity to come together and being in the same space and sharing an experience,” he added.

“There’s something about these kinds of events, a live event, that says, ‘Let’s have a shared experience’ and let that experience hopefully be uplifting and educational and inspiring and hopefully transform hearts.”

The BEST Mexico City Itinerary: 4-5 Days (2024)

Looking for a Mexico City Itinerary? You’re in the right place.

Having spent 6 months living in Mexico City, I’ve been back several times to visit and know how amazing and diverse of a city it is.

With a population of 21 million people in the greater Mexico City area, it almost feels like multiple cities attached – and planning a trip can take a lot of strategic planning.

4-5 days in Mexico City gives you enough time to see several of its highlights.

This 4-day itinerary (with an optional 5th day) will show you the best of what Mexico City has to offer; in the downtown, as well as a few prominent attractions just outside of it.

Mexico City has a lot of unique things to do, so I will provide alternative activities that will work with the schedule in case you would prioritize something different from me.

Here’s what you need to know about this itinerary:

✅ Food options near all of the activities and destinations are provided

✅ Alternatives activities provided in case you have different interests from the things that I prioritize OR if you have a 5th day to spare

So, let’s jump in – 4 or 5 days in Mexico City!

4-Day Mexico City Itinerary

The Mexico City downtown is very walkable and easy to explore on foot.Today will be spent seeing everything in the historic district of Mexico City; the heart of the downtown core. It’ll be an easygoing day with lots of flexibility. Here’s how I would structure it to get the most out of it

Day 1: El Centro Historico (Hisoric Centre)

If you want to have a more in-depth understanding of the history, then you can book a walking tour with a local guide . (The one in the link. I provided is 3 hours long, and about $20 USD per person – there are many, but all are more or less similar in price and in time length.) Otherwise, continue reading to see how to explore the historic district on your own.

1. Head to the Bellas Artes area

Start your day in the Bellas Artes area, which is right in the downtown core.

Many tourists choose to stay near this area, but if not – take the metro to Bellas Artes station.

From the Bellas Artes subway station, you’re only a 2-minute walk from these buildings (which are all within a 5-minute radius from each other.)

2. See the most unique buildings in the Bellas Artes area

Time needed: 1-1.5 hours

• Admire + take pictures of the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

The Palacio de Bellas Artes is just steps away from the Bellas Artes subway station. It’s such a beautiful building, from both the outside and inside. I’ve actually been inside – but you can enter.

The inside of this building is actually included in the Mexico City mural tour (something you could save for a 5th day in Mexico City if you have the time.)

• Check out the House of Tiles

The House of Tiles (Casa de los Azulejos) is just around the corner (just a 3-minute walk from the Palacio de Bellas Artes.) It’s also a unique building to see from both the inside and out.

• Go inside the Postal Palace

The Postal Palace ( Palacio de Correos ) is also in the area, just a 2-3 minute walk from the House of Tiles and the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Anytime from 10am, you’re welcome to go inside for free to admire the stunning atrium.

There’s a small museum inside as well, which wouldn’t take long if you were interested in taking a look at it.

• Church of San Francisco

The Church of San Francisco ( la iglesia de San Francisco ) dates back to the 1700s. You can take a look from the outside, or go inside to get a peak – its quite pretty on the inside.

• Go up the Latin American Tower

Take the elevator up the Latin American Tower (Torre Latino) to get a view of the city and the surrounding mountains. Many people miss this when visiting Mexico City, but its one of the main things I would recommend.

Buy tickets in advance on the Mirador Torre Latino website or on Get Your Guide . (The prices are more or less the same – Get your Guie allows you to book now pay later, and offers free cancellation.)

When you arrive, you’ll take the elevator to the 44th floor to the Mirador. At the top of the tower, there is the observation deck (the mirador), as well as a gift shop, and 2 museums.

Depending on whether you decide to visit the museums or not, you could spend anywhere from an hour or two at the tower.

3. Grab lunch

You will likely be hungry after seeing all the unique and beautiful buildings in the Bellas Artes area. Next, we’ll be heading to the Zocalo (city centre) which is about a 15-minute walk from the Bellas Artes area.

In the surrounding Bellas Artes and Zocalo area, there are not a ton of food options, but there are a few nice places to eat at.

Here are some suggestions for where to get lunch:

• Cafe de Tacuba – serves traditional Mexican food, in a nice interior sit-down environment. It’s located on the way to the Zocalo
• Pastelería Ideal – if you’re looking for more of a grab-and-go, this has many pastries and baked goods to choose from
• El 123 – delicious Thai food, has open-air seating

4. Spend the afternoon in the Zocalo

Time needed: 3-4 hours

After lunch, continue walking over to the Zocalo which will take 15-20 minutes depending on where you stopped for lunch, or if you’re walking directly from Bellas Artes.

If you walk straight from Bellas Artes, it will take about 18 minutes to reach the zocalo.

If you prefer not to walk, then hop onto the subway at the Bellas Artes station and take it to Zócalo/Tenochtitlan metro station. This will bring you right in front of the National Palace, which is our next stop.

Here are the things to check out in the Mexico City Zocalo:

• Palacio National

The Palacio National (national palace) is 660 ft long, and is a World Heritage site, and the residence of the president of Mexico.

At the time of writing, going inside the National Palace isn’t an option. However, you can still see it from the outside.

If going inside the castle becomes available again, then I’d highly recommend it.

• Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral

Take a look at the cathedral, and go inside. It’s the largest, and oldest cathedral in Latin America (the building started in 1573 and continued through the 1800s when it finally opened.)

You can walk into the main cathedral for free, but there’s an extra (small) fee to pay to access the bell tower. Be sure to have some change on you in case you want to do this.

• Templo Mayor Museum Museo de Templo Mayor

Templo Mayor Museum (Museo de Templo Mayor) has Aztec ruins that date back to the 1300s, which is an outdoor archeological site that you can walk around.

There are also several artifacts to look at inside, in its 7-storey building.

So needless to say, the whole thing is quite large.

A few things to keep in mind about visiting the Muse

• Keep in mind that entrance is FREE on Sundays for everyone, as long as you have ID with you. So don’t buy an advance ticket if you’re coming on a Sunday
• They’re pretty strict about not letting you bring a water bottle in with you. You can check your bag at the entrance though
• Bring your phone if you don’t know any Spanish – there is signage in English, but not all of it has translations.

Grab your skip the line tickets from Get Your Guide for the Museo de Templop Mayor (roughly $13 USD per person) or buy them in person or from the main museum website online for $95 Mexican pesos, which is less than $5 per person.

5. Dinner options for Mexico City

After exploring the Zocalo, you have a few hours in the evening to enjoy the city and get some dinner.

Mexico City is a foodie city so you want to be able to take advantage of that while you’re here

Here are a few dinner options for your first evening in Mexico City:

• Dinner option # 1: Take the metro to San Pedro de Los Piños metro station, and walk 20 minutes to The World Trade Center. There’s a restaurant on the x floor called Bellini’s, which has a special occasion or date night atmosphere (but is family-friendly too.) You have a beautiful view of the night sky of Mexico City (pictured above) is stunning
• Dinner option # 2: Take the metro to Juarez station, and head to La Ciudela (an artisanal open-air market.) There are many restaurants in the area, and it’s the perfect place to get souvenirs from Mexico.
• Coyoacan – about a 1 hour metro ride from the city centre. Very nice and we’ll be spending more time here on the 4th day. You may even choose to stay in Coyoacan as many people do!

Any of these dinner options can be applied to any of the days you’re in Mexico City. #1 probably makes the most sense for today, but if it doesn’t appeal to you then go with whatever one you like best.

Day 2: Teotihuacan

Today will be spent heading north of the city, to see the Teotihuacan pyramids which date back to over 2,000 years. Wear your good walking shoes again, and bring sunscreen and hats

Teotihuacan pyramids are located x from the city centre, and many people choose to book a day tour there. If you want to book a tour, then I recommend this small group tour to Teotihuacan (5-star rating, about $65 USD per person, and 6 hours.) But there are countless other ones to choose from. Otherwise, scroll below to hear how to get to and explore Teotihuacan on your own

1. Make your way to Teotihuacan

Time needed: about an hour

If you’re not taking a tour, then you can get to Teotihuacan in one of two ways:

• Taxi. You can hail a cab pretty easily in Mexico City (I’ve never had to book one in advance.) Most taxi drivers in Mexico will give you an estimate of how much it may cost prior to the trip.
• A bus from the city centre

All options will take around 1 hour (give or take) to get to Teotihuacan.

2. Explore Teotihuacan

Time needed: 3-4 hours (+ lunch)

Teotihuacan is more than just the two pyramids, (although they’re the main attractions!) In addition to the pyramids, there are:

• archeological structures
• lots of vendors, and places to eat

I’ve been to Teotihuacan a number of times. I had lots of people visit me when I lived in Mexico City, and always took them to Teotihuacan.

Each time, we were usually there for at least 3 hours. Since you’re making your way out there, it’s good to really take your time to explore this unique place.

• Walk down the Avenue of the Dead, which is the main thoroughfare
• We always hike to the top of both pyramids and admire the view of the grounds from above. (The Sun Pyramid is 216 feet tall, and the Moon Pyramid is 140 feet tall!)
• Afterwards, we’d walk through an archeological site which looks kind of like a maze, called Palace Atetelco.

We usually eat street food when we head to Teotihuacan. There are always lots of vendors selling food, such as fried cactuses. (Which I learned, are quite good.)

I’ve never had a problem eating street food, but some people have trouble with anything with ice in it, because the water that made the ice may not have been filtered and could give you an upset stomach (or worse.)

If you’re looking for somewhere more comfortable to eat, then head to La Gruta which is only about 600 metres from the pyramids. Check their menu (in English) here.

3. Head back to Mexico City + spend the rest of the afternoon or evening

A trip to Teotihuacan is a long day, and pretty exhausting. Depending on when you head back and how you feel, you may be back in Mexico City with some time to explore or do something fun.

Here are some suggestions:

• Head to the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) campus, and check out the murals
• Do a haunted walk in the Roma neighbourhood. $200 for a 4-hour tour, and a party of up to 5 people. Book here
• If you like modern art, visit the Kurimanzutto art gallery , which is in the La Condesa area (near where day 3 will be spent actually.)
• Head to La Ciudela Market if you didn’t get a chance to go there yesterday. It’s open until 6-7pm every day (lots of places to eat in the area too.)

Day 3: Bosque Chapultepec

Today, we’ll be spending the day in a different corner of the city, known as Polanco. All the attractions are centred around the Chapultec Forest, which is the largest city park in North America (even bigger than the famous Central Park in NYC!)

1. Head up to the Chapultec Castle

Time needed: around 2 hours (including the climb to the top)

The hill that leads up to where Chapultec Castle is right near the entrance gates to the Chapultecpark.

The castle was built in the 1700s, and is the only royal castle in the Americas.

It is a steep, 20 minute climb to the top where the castle is. If you or someone in your party has any physical limitations, then it might be best to visit the forest instead of the park because of the steep climb.

Also, the castle is closed on Mondays you may also decide to rearrange this Mexico City itinerary to make sure this day falls on a Tuesday to a Sunday.

Entrance to Chapultec Forest is free of charge, but you do need to pay if you’re going to the castle. The cost is 95 pesos (about $5 USD or less) and you can choose to buy them online in advance.

If you want to visit the castle, be sure to buy your tickets online, or in person before heading up the hill because they don’t sell them at the top – you’d have to come all the way back down, which would be a pain!

You can expect to spend an hour to an hour and a half exploring the castle. The view from the top of Mexico City and the surrounding forest are beautiful and worth the experience.

2. Pick one of 3 options of things to do after the caste or park

After visiting the castle (or the park) depending on which one, you have a few options of things to do in the Polanco area.

The Polanco area is a ritzy neighbourhood in Mexico City, and also considered to be the “foodie” area.

Option # 1: Walk through the Anthropology museum

Time needed: 4+ hours Walking distance from Chapultepec Castle: 22 minutes

Museo Nacional Anthropologia de Mexico is the most amazing museums I’ve ever been to.

It has both indoor and outdoor exhibits and you could spend hours (or even days) here walking around, absorbed in all the interesting artifacts and things you can learn – and still barely scratch the surface on everything there is to see!

This museum, along with Chapultec Castle, was always at the top of my list of things to do with visitors when they came to visit me in Mexico City.

After you make your descent down the hill from the castle, you can easily walk there (or hail a cab, if you’re exhausted.) It would be a very short drive.

You can buy tickets online in advance, on their website or even Viator. The tickets on their website work out to be slightly cheaper (95 Mexican pesos, the equivalent of less than $5 USD) whereas buying through Viator means you can cancel up to 24 hours before, so you can pick the ticketing option that works best for you.

Option # 2: Do a Polanco Food Tour

Time needed: 3.5 hours, starting at Walking distance from Chapultepec Castle: 39 minutes (or you could get a cab)

There’s a food tour in the Polanco area (3 hours long and costs $250 per person which covers all the food) and introduces you to the foodie area of Mexico City.

The tours usually leave at 11am, 4:30 or 5:30pm so it may be something you want to save as a dinner activity.

Option # 3: Visit Chapultepec Forest

Time needed: Walking distance from Chapultepec Castle:

If you opted to visit the castle this morning and didn’t see the forest, then you may prefer this. It’s a more low-key activity if you’re craving something more relaxing.

It’s free to visit the forest, so you don’t need to pay any extra if you were already at the castle.

If you’re looking to do more in the park besides just walk around, there is:

• Chapultepec Zoo, which is about about 33 acres but it has hundreds of species from all over the world; tigers, rhinos, you name it.
• Bike rentals – exploring the park via bike would be much faster to get around, and you’d see more
• Chapultepec Lake, where you can rent paddleboats.

2. Grab dinner in the area, OR do a Polanco Food Tour

Lots of restaurants in the area; most of them are nice sit-down places that serve both Mexican and Polanco food.

Here are some restaurants in the area, and how far of a walk they may be:

• Quintonil, upscale Mexican cuisine
• Porfirio’s Masaryk -creative Mexican cuisine with a really nice indoor seating interior (it would be my first choice)
• Saks Polanco – upscale restaurant with a variety of foods

The last two are Mexican chains, and you can reserve a table online – just make sure you select the Polanco location.

Check availability for a Polanco Food Tour if you didn’t do one earlier ($240 USD per person including all food, and their last food tour starts at 5:30pm)

Day 4 – Xochimilco Floating Gardens & Coyoacan

Today will be to explore the neighbourhood of Coyoacan, and riding the Xochimilco boats. Xochilco Floating Gardens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a unique experience where you can ride on colourful, brightly-painted wooden boats that take you through canals.

Xochimilco boats are called “trajineras” in Spanish (pronounces “tra-heen-eras”) and they are very popular with college and university students. It’s not uncommon for it to turn into a party thing with booze and music.

However, you can still (and absolutely should) still do Xochimilco if you’re in Mexico City with kids , or with any other age group because it’s such a fun and unique experience.

Going first thing in the morning, especially on a weekday, will give Xochimilco less of a party vibe than it has in the afternoon.

I am writing the itinerary so that you do Xochimilco first, and Coyoacan second, but you can absolutely do it the other way around too.

Xochimilco and the Coyoacan neighbourhood are about a 90-minute trip on the metro from each other. To make today easier, book this tour that includes Xochimlco and Coyoacan. (4-6 hours long, and costs $200 per person.) Otherwise, continue reading to learn how to explore the two on your own

Before heading to Xochimilco, remember:

• To bring cash with you
• Be prepared to use the washroom at a public restroom before boarding the boat, because the rides are usually 2 hours minimum and there are no washrooms on the boat or the canals

1. Head to the Xochimilco ports

The Xochimilco ports are located 22 km (13.6 miles) from downtown Mexico City, and there are different ‘ports’ where the boats leave from.

• Take the metro to Metro Tasqueña station, which is at the end of the blue line (line 2.) From there, you can either take a train or a bus. By train, take the Light Rail. (You can transfer to the train from the metro with your metro card.) There are several stops before it reaches The Xochimilco Light Rail station . From there, you can walk to the trajineras
• If you don’t want to use public transit, you can also take an Uber, which will set you back around 200 pesos (equivalent to $12 USD) from the city centre

Once you finally arrive at the Xochimilco ports area, you’ll need to choose which ‘port’ to leave from.

Embarcadero Nativitas  is the most popular of the ports. Its has signs in English, and even has a Facebook page you can check out  here

But, all of the Xochimilco ports are more or less in the same area.

When you arrive at the Xochimilco port, you’ll talk to the staff to decide on a price, and length of time of the boat ride.

Generally, you can expect to pay 600 pesos (around $30ish) per HOUR for the Xochimilco boat ride. This is per boat, not per person.

This price is set by the government. they may try to get you to pay more, but tell them you will pay “seis-cientos pesos.”

Since standard Xochimilco boat rides can be 2 hours long, or longer, you can expect to pay around 1200 pesos (somewhere between $65-$80 USD in total) for the boat ride.

Some people try to connect with other travellers to share the boat ride with, to make the cost even cheaper and more fun. There are a few Facebook group for tourists in Mexico, such as Mexico City Travel Community.

Sharing the boat ride with others makes the cost cheaper, but you absolutely don’t need to – I’ve taken a Xochimilco boat ride with only 2 other people before (pictured above), and it was a fun experience! It’s really just a matter of preference.

You can either book your boat ride online in advance on their website or simply show up and book on the spot.

I have never booked Xochimilco online, I’ve always just showed up. However, since you have limited time in the city, booking online isn’t a bad idea.

One thing to keep in mind about Xochimilco is the option of visiting Island of the Dead Dolls (Isla de las Muñecas) while you’re there – perfect if you like dark, creepy things! Visting the Island of Dead Dolls will make the experience take closer to 4 hours, and of course costs a bit extra.

2. Make your way to Coyoacan

Time needed: 90 minutes

The Xochimilco boat will drop you off at the same port that you left from.

Make your way over to Coyoacan, which will take about an hour and a half on transit. It may be easiest to go back the way you came.

However, another option is to just take an Uber, which will cost around 200-300 pesos.

(That’s one of the hassles of Mexico City being so big – it takes a lot of time to get from one area to another.) But don’t worry – Coyoacan will be worth it!

3. Spend the rest of the day in the Coyoacan neighbourhood

The area is lively and bustling, and personally I would rather be here in the evening, and at night.

There are quaint colourful streets lined with boutique restaurants, vibrantly painted churches, parks, and its a great relaxing way to spend an afternoon or evening.

Here are some things to check out in the Coyoacan neighbourhood.

• La Casa Azul / Frida Khalo Museum: A deep blue building that was once the home of artist Frida Khalo. Open until 6pm. Get advance tickets here if you want to go inside
• Coyoacan Market , which has been running for over 100 years. After La Ciudelam, its one of the most famous markets in Mexico.
• Parque Centenario – a nice place to take a break, and see the coyote fountain in the centre of it
• Countless restaurants –  Centenario 107  serves all-day breakfast, El Jardín de Anatolia has delicious, upscale Middle-Eastern fusion. There are also countless authentic Mexican restaurants – Corazón de Maguey, La Casa de los Tacos, and Tostadas Coyoacan

All of the above things to do I mentioned are about a 5-10 minute walk from each other, give or take. So giving yourself a goof 3-4 hours to spend here should be enough to do each of them.

I was lucky enough to live within walking distance of Coyoacan so I used to go here all the time. It’s a safe and walkable neighbourhood, and very lively into the evenings.

Options for a 5th (or more) days in Mexico City

Mexico City is HUGE, and cannot possibly seen all in 4 days. I had 6 consecutive months there and feel like I barely scratched the surface. Here are some other things you may want to add to your itinerary for Mexico City

• Visit the UNAM Campus , if you didn’t already on day 2. It’s a really nice campus to walk around, and has lots of art – including murals. I went here by myself on a day trip and it was a beautiful way to spend a morning or afternoon
• Visit one of the amusement parks in Mexico City: ¡Kataplum! or Six Flags
• Cafebrería bookstore café , a nice place to order baked goods while browsing books in Spanish and English
• Countless museums. I don’t know if I could list all the museums in Mexico City if I tried. The Conde Nest Traveller has a good list of 20 museums in the city, but its not all of them.
• Use Google maps to scan to find additional museums and things to do in the area you’re staying. There’s without a doubt some exciting things not mentioned here. I think even years in Mexico City isn’t enough to see everything
• Take a day or overnight trip to Pueblo, Taxco, Pachuca or Morelia. All are accessible via bus from Mexico City, on several lines. ADO   is a good ‘luxury’ (but affordable) line. You can check schedules and prices on their website

Where to Stay in Mexico City

I would recommend staying in either Coyoacan, Polanco or the Centro Historico. Any of these neighbourhoods put you close to where you want to be.

Tips + What to Bring to Mexico City

Here are a few tips that knowing in advance will help make your trip go more smoothly

• ✅ You can buy a Mexico City metro card from any of the subway stations. It makes it easier to board transit each time. The card costs 15 pesos (equivalent to less than $1 USD)
• ✅ A reusable water bottle may not be useful in Mexico City, because drinking the tap water is not safe. As much as I hate buying plastic water bottles, this may be your best bet in Mexico City
• ✅ Wear good walking shoes, carry sunscreen and wear a hat. The sun in this part of the world is strong
• ✅ The areas of Mexico City where you’d spend your time as a tourist are quite safe (Zocalo, Roma, Polanco, Coyacan.) These corners of Mexico City are considered by many to be some of the safest places in Mexico . You should still take caution, in those neighbourhoods and especially outside of them. I’d avoid walking at night alone.
• ✅ While English has generally gotten better in Mexico City over the years, especially as tourism to the city has increased – knowing a bit of Spanish can be extremely useful, especially for negotiating prices, shopping in markets and using public transit. Practicing on Duolingo or hiring an online tutor from Mexico City in advance may help. If you’re completely new to Spanish, find out how long it may take to learn here

How many days is enough for Mexico City?

You need at least 3 days in Mexico City to be able to see all the special highlights, and this doesn’t include a day to visit the Teotihuacan pyramids. So, to have enough time, you should budget for 4 days to Mexico City.

Is 10 days in Mexico City too long?

Heck no, 10 days isn’t too long in Mexico City. I spend 6 consecutive months there, and even then it wasn’t too long. Mexico City is so big, that is almost multiple cities within a city so there are an un-countable amount of interesting things to do, and places to explore. Plus, there are lots of great day-trip options

Is 3 nights enough in Mexico City?

Three nights is enough to see the main attractions in the Mexico City area, but it would be hard to fit in the further away attractions (such as Xochimilco Floating Gardens, or the Teotihuacan pyramids) in that length of time. I recommend at least 4 nights in Mexico City if you want to be able to fit in those two things as well as the actual city

Is Mexico City walkable?

Yes, Mexico City is very walkable – but it’s also very big, so walking from one neighbourhood to another would take a lot of time (and steps.) It’s best to use a combination of walking, as well as taking the metro in order to get around Mexico City efficiently.

Can you walk around Mexico City at night?

Whether or not you can walk around Mexico City at night depends on the neighbourhood. In Polanco or Coyoacan, it would probably be fine, because they are well-lit and lively with lots of other people around.

We quizzed thousands of city-dwellers to rank the best cities in the world right now. Ready?

What makes a city great? Some would say it’s all about   buzzing neighbourhoods , affordable food and drink and a mighty selection of things to do, from art galleries and museums to live music and theatre. Others might highlight things like the happiness of its locals, access to green space and strong community vibes.

We factor in all that and more in our annual survey, which asks city-dwellers around the world to tell us what it’s like to live, work and play in their hometowns right now. Thanks to the opinions and insights of locals on the ground and our global network of city experts, we’re able to create a global ranking of the world’s best cities – and the 2024 results are in.

As in previous years, the basis of the ranking remains our global survey of the people who know their city best: the locals. Working with research company Potentia Insight, we surveyed thousands of city-dwellers about the quality and affordability of food, culture and nightlife in their city. We also asked locals how their city makes them feel: are they happy there? Is it a beautiful place? Is it easy to make social connections? Their thousands of responses gave us a unique insight into the reality of living in the world’s greatest cities right now.

Now that international travel is forecast to bounce back to the highest levels since 2019 , many travellers will be planning a   city break   this year – so in 2024, we added a little extra weight to a city’s global appeal. Each survey respondent was asked which other city they would most like to live in, and we polled more than 100 well-travelled Time Out staff writers and editors, based all over the world, for their take on which cities are particularly exciting places to visit right now.

What makes us great: You know it as ‘the city that never sleeps’ because many of its restaurants, bars and shops are open 24 hours a day, but the adage extends to New York ’ s spirit, too. This vibrant metropolis is always adapting, always innovating and always pushing the boundaries. It's never asleep. It's fully awake. That means constant must-see exhibits across the city’s galleries and museums, including the MoMA , the Whitney and the American Museum of Natural History . Its neighbourhoods hold the foundation together with their respective community-led events like the Queens Night Market in Flushing, the Lunar New Year Parade in Chinatown and the West Indian Day Parade in Crown Heights. No matter the time of year, there’s always a good party to go to, from a ‘Sip and Stitch’ gathering inside a designer's Chelsea studio to the all-out blowouts at Bushwick's House of Yes . All of this set within the historic boundaries of the city makes NYC shine despite its grit.

The big numbers: There’s no denying the allure of the Big Apple. When it came to the city people wanted to move to most, New York was head and shoulders above the rest, with 15 percent of survey respondents saying they’d relocate there in a heartbeat.

2.  Cape Town

What makes us great:  With Table Mountain – laced with well-marked walking trails – at the heart of a peninsula fringed by glorious beaches, it’s not hard to be smitten by Cape Town ’s natural beauty. But spend a few days here and the Mother City’s multicultural soul quickly shines through. In the District Six Museum and on Robben Island you’ll get to grips with the country’s turbulent history (remember that South Africa marks 30 years of democracy in 2024), while the colourful homes of Bo-Kaap are an invitation to discover the city’s vibrant Cape Malay community. More and more visitors are using tourist dollars to support independent businesses in townships, while Cape Town’s creative landscape is alive with new energy. Studios, galleries and public events abound – come for the Investec Cape Town Art Fair each February – while Cape Town is also famously the most LGBTQ+-friendly city on the continent.

The big numbers: Cape Town scored highly across the board. A whopping 100 percent of locals said the city is beautiful and that it made them happy, while Cape Town’s culture scene ranked highest in the world for its quality.

3.  Berlin

What makes us great: Berlin  is so much more than its clubs, its galleries, and its reputation as the European capital of cool. The city might not be known for its friendliness, but Berliners are the heart and soul of the German capital. Whether you’re posted up at a smokey pub in Neukölln for people watching, finding your footing on the dancefloor in Friedrichshain, or making your voice heard at any number of community-led protests in Kreuzberg, you’re sure to find your place with likeminded people in Berlin. Getting between the 12 districts with public transportation is easy, but renting a bike is a great way to see the city. Bike lanes criss-cross the capital, and there are seemingly endless wide open green spaces (Tempelhof Field, a disused airport tarmac turned into a massive park, is a local favourite).

Visit now because: This year marks 20 years of Monster Ronson’s Ichiban Karaoke , Berlin’s best-known karaoke bar. The big numbers: We know well that Berliners like to party, and if our survey’s anything to go by, they’re in the right place for it – Berlin’s nightlife scene had an impressive 82 percent approval rating.

4.  London

What makes us great: Londoners make London great. Nowhere else in the world can you rub shoulders with such a diverse yet weirdly homogeneous group of people. Is our home as friendly as Dublin , as beautiful as Paris or as gastronomically hyped as Tokyo ? No. But judging by the fact London is consistently named the best city in the world, Europe , and so on, it obviously doesn’t matter. Our galleries are free. Our parks are massive. Our pubs are legendary. Our kebab meat is plentiful. There’s no city like it, and if you don’t agree, we genuinely don’t care. But please visit!

Visit now because: There’s quite simply more to do here than anywhere else on earth, but in recent years our fair city’s been criticised for an ailing nightlife scene. Well, that’s all changed. London now is home to a whole bunch of massive, cutting-edge nightclubs. What they lack in underground grittiness they make up for in jumbo sound systems and killer lineups. The big numbers: Despite what you might’ve heard about misery and rain, 94 percent of Londoners said they’re happy and 95 percent said they find the city beautiful. London also had the third-highest ‘pull factor’ of all cities surveyed, with 9 percent of respondents saying they’d move there if they could.

5.  Madrid

What makes us great: Whether you’re from Madrid or not, when you’re here, we’re all Madrileños. It's a welcoming and lively city that stands out for its exciting (daily) nightlife, its spectacular food, its internationally renowned chefs and its vibrant culture. Don’t just listen to us: in the last year alone, Salmon Guru was crowned one of the best cocktail bars in the world , David Muñoz has once again been voted the best chef on the planet and the Royal Collections Gallery was one of the most important museum projects in Europe. Big names aside, the essence of Madrid is found in its neighborhoods, where lifelong neighbours and century-old stores coexist with new art galleries and specialty cafe – as is the case in Carabanchel, chosen as the third best neighborhood in the world in 2023 . Given all of that, it’s no wonder Madrid is so popular with tourists – as evidenced by the amount of new hotels (most of them luxury) opening their doors around the city, from The Madrid Edition to the UMusic Hotel and the Thompson Madrid .

Visit now because: Any time is a good time to come and enjoy Madrid, but in 2024 the city will experience an explosion of international concerts due to the renovation of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium . In the coming months, Taylor Swift, Luis Miguel and Karol G will be coming to the Spanish capital. In addition, The Boss (Bruce Springsteen) will perform on no less than three nights in another of the city's stadiums, the Metropolitano, home of Atlético de Madrid.

6.  Mexico City

What makes us great: With a museum on every corner, it’s no surprise Mexico City was named the best city in the world for culture in 2023. There’s plenty more where that came from this year, with exciting emerging art spaces like Laguna , new galleries like Naranjo , and eagerly awaited international exhibitions like Damien Hirst at Museo Jumex . CDMX is also at the forefront of a vibrant gastronomic revolution, from mushroom cultivation at Tencui , Japanese coffee at Panya and the best brisket at Ahumados Pelican . The dark kitchens of Roma will surprise you, San Miguel Chapultepec’s artsy offerings will captivate you, breakfast in Condesa will be delicious and an afternoon in Coyoacán will be unforgettable. Get ready to fall even more in love with our neighbourhoods, our food and our warmth when you visit CDMX this year.

7.  Liverpool

What makes us great: There's more to Liverpool than Beatles tours and football matches. In fact, it's one of the best places in the world to go for a guaranteed-good-time. The true city that never sleeps, spots such as 24 Kitchen Street , home to some of the city's best DJs, or dive bars like Salt Dog Slims provide ample opportunities for late nights. But the city looks just as good in daylight, with a smiling face on every corner, and plenty of up-and-coming talent to champion, whether you're sampling small plates at Michelin-mentioned Belzan or checking out the work of local artists at FACT . 

Visit now because: Still on a high off the back of hosting Eurovision, there's plenty of music events to look forward to in Liverpool this year. In The Park , hosted by much-loved local singer-songwriter Jamie Webster in collaboration with Cream Classical, will see dance anthems from over the years accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra.

The big numbers: Liverpool scored 89 percent for the affordability of its culture scene, making it the cheapest city on the list for art and culture.

8.  Tokyo

What makes us great: Much has been said about  Tokyo ’s efficiency. Its wide-reaching network of public transport is always punctual and the urban landscape is world-renowned for being unbelievably clean and well designed. But what makes Tokyo truly exciting is its dynamism. This is a city that never stays the same – there’s always something new and innovative to discover here. Some of the world’s greatest restaurants are now in Tokyo (Massimo Bottura’s Gucci Osteria , Antwerp’s Michelin-starred Le Pristine , and MAZ , sister to Peruvian 2023 World Best Restaurant Central – just to name a few) while cocktail bars are experimenting with local ingredients like miso. Plus, the city now has three gin distilleries focusing on Japanese spirits and botanicals, new shopping malls with rooftop gardens, architect-designed public toilets, a flurry of new openings from anime centres to art galleries… it’s difficult to keep up at times, but we don’t expect anything less from this vibrant city. 

Visit now because: The all-new teamLab Borderless digital art museum is opening in Azabudai Hills complex in central Tokyo on February 9. This is arguably the most anticipated new opening of 2024, as the museum promises a number of never-before-seen digital art installations making their world debut.

The big numbers: If our survey is anything to go by, Tokyoites are a merry bunch. 94 percent of locals said the city made them happy. With so much to do, see and (most importantly) eat, are we that surprised?

9.  Rome

What makes us great:   Regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Rome lures travellers with its ancient history, fabled cuisine and laid-back lifestyle. From the majestic Colosseum and intricately carved Trevi Fountain to the Spanish Steps and Pantheon, the city’s architectural splendours provide a theatrical backdrop for daily life. Locals still shop for fresh produce in cobblestone piazzas while nuns gather over coffee and schoolchildren visit iconic artworks in the city’s many museums. Spanning over 2,000 years of history, Rome is a city with layers: head underground to sites like the ancient Roman houses of Palazzo Valentini and the Basilica of San Clemente, and see the city from a bird’s-eye view atop the Castel Sant’Angelo fortress and the terrace of Gianicolo.

10.  Porto

What makes us great: There’s good reason we chose Porto as this year’s best European city break . Portugal’s second city is a place where you eat well and drink better. In this wine capital, your glass will never be empty: check into a wine hotel like The Yeatman , The Lodge , or Wine & Books ; sip and snack at stylish wine bars like Genuíno , A Certain Café , or Tia Tia ; learn about all things vinho at the impressive World of Wine (WoW) , a kind of wine-themed Disneyland; and see where the magic happens on a tour of one of the cellars in Gaia (we recommend Sandeman , Cockburn's , and Cálem , to start). 11.  Paris

What makes us great: Without bragging (not really the French style), let's just say Paris pulls off a daily miracle. It's the most packed city in Europe, yet it somehow reconciles its unique historic vibe – you know, those stone buildings, iconic landmarks, and centuries-old boulevards – with a constant explosion of creativity in every direction. Fashion, music, food... you name it, this city of 110 nationalities keeps reinventing itself day in and day out, and all through the night. Where else but in Paris can you try a Japanese chef’s take on French cuisine ? Where else but in Paris can you attend a ballroom event in a nineteenth-century theatre ? Where else but in Paris can you visit a former grain exchange home to one of the largest private collections of contemporary art ? Nowhere, that’s where.

What makes us great: Whether you’re a staunch mainlander or from Lekki, there’s something for everyone in Lagos, Africa’s most populous city. What makes us great: Right, where do we begin? Not only is Melbourne home to the sixth coolest neighbourhood in the entire world (shout out to Northside ‘burb Brunswick East), but this bustling metropolis of ours was also named the world’s tenth best city for culture right now . And don’t even get us started on the recent avalanche of new restaurant openings: from a French fine diner housed in the city’s cavernous old Stock Exchange building to an authentic Mexican joint slinging the best tacos in town, there’s no doubting which Aussie state wears the culinary crown (we see you coming for it, Sydney!). What makes us great:  After Michelin’s first guide to the Argentine capital was published in November, it’s safe to say Buenos Aires is one of South America’s leading food and drink cities. Some 52 restaurants were recommended, a healthy debut that included six Bib Gourmand awards, two one-stars in Trescha and Don Julio and a lone two-star in Aramburu – all confirming the city’s position as a dining hotspot.  Meanwhile, bartenders are continuing to shake up the cocktail scene after Tres Monos took home the prestigious Art of Hospitality prize from last year’s World’s 50 Best Bars awards; two other watering holes, Cochinchina and Florería Atlántico , also rank in the top 50. What makes us great: A city that used to be regarded as a necessary stopover before jumping off to one of the Philippines ’ famed white sand beaches, Manila ’s current renaissance proves it deserves to be a destination in its own right. Although the notorious snarling traffic remains omnipresent, it can be credited for the organic growth of micro-communities, like Poblacion and Legaspi and Salcedo Villages. Sure, the office-heavy financial district is still quieter than in 2019, but the rest of the city is alive with a palpable energy that harks back to the pre-2020 glory days. Our itinerary across four Gateway Cities is rooted in cultural programming with incredible talent that celebrates Latinx, Portuguese and Cambodian influences in Massachusetts. We collaborated with local, regional, national and international street artists to create meaningful murals and creative interventions in each community. Our goal is to expand the impact of each installation beyond its own locality, connecting passionate coalitions along the way. We hope you’ll join us! 

Each city is an infusion of hyper-local to wildly-international collaboration, with paid opportunities for regional artists to do what they do best, and to grow with us throughout the process. Our lineup is epic, bringing a circuit of globally recognized talent to Massachusetts. We’ve united government officials, local businesses and community organizations through passionate coalitions to shape the narrative and representation of each production. This summer, 20+ artists will respond to these evocative themes through visual channels in the public realm, collaborating with local businesses and community groups in the process.

After accepting the nomination, Ms. Harris was flying back to Washington on Friday for a weekend respite before returning to the campaign trail next week.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign for president is entering a new phase, shifting from a 33-day sprint to the convention to something more familiar: Preparing for a debate and pivoting to getting out the vote.

On Friday afternoon, Ms. Harris plans to fly back from Chicago to Washington, where she will spend the weekend decompressing from the mind-spinning turn of events that led to her accepting the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday night.

She will begin preparing for what will be her first national interview — which she has said will take place by the end of August — and for the Sept. 10 debate with Donald J. Trump, according to campaign officials briefed on her plans who were not authorized to reveal them before they are formally announced.

The officials said Ms. Harris will return to the campaign trail next week with events in multiple battleground states, where she will aim to extend the enthusiasm generated at this week’s convention in Chicago.

Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, her running mate who was plucked from relative political obscurity 17 days ago, will return to his state before heading back on the campaign trail next week.

Presidential candidates typically come out of their conventions trying to build momentum with bus tours or rallies. Ms. Harris’s choice to delay the traditional barnstorming reflects the supercharged pace of the last few weeks and the changed nature of modern campaigns, where social media posts can be as important as speeches. It also is evidence of a shift from a sprint to more of a middle-distance effort that requires endurance and speed in equal measures.

“Campaigns often do barnstorm, but this has been such a compressed schedule for her and she has a debate in 17 days,” said David Axelrod, the veteran Democratic strategist who worked on Barack Obama’s campaigns. “A little downtime and maybe even prep would make sense. As we just saw they have a plethora of first-rate surrogates who can and should be deployed when she is not.”

While Mr. Obama in 2012 left his re-election convention in Charlotte, N.C., for a swing through battleground states including Iowa and Florida — where he was memorably lifted into the air by a pizza proprietor — campaigns today rely less on the local media coverage generated by stumping across the country.

Campaigns now seek to reach voters as much on social media apps as in person, a reality that was evident in how the Democratic National Convention gave status to influencers willing to cheer for Ms. Harris and spread the campaign’s message that was equal to or better than what it gave the traditional press corps at the United Center.

Ms. Harris’s self-imposed deadline for a national interview, next Saturday, presents the next hurdle for Ms. Harris. It will be a break from the rhythm of stadium rallies she has hosted since she named Mr. Walz her running mate.

Mr. Trump does not have a robust campaign schedule in the coming days either.

The Republican nominee sought to divert attention to himself during the Democratic National Convention, holding an event each day in a different battleground state. Mr. Trump plans on Friday to cap the week’s events in Las Vegas and in Arizona, where his campaign has teased a special guest that many expect to be Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who suspended his independent campaign for president on Friday and endorsed Mr. Trump.

Mr. Trump is then expected to spend the weekend at his golf club in Sterling, Va., according to two people familiar with his plans. But he does not have any public events scheduled until Monday, when he will address the National Guard Association of the United States in Detroit.

“President Trump will be working nonstop like he always does and doing an interview this weekend, which is one more interview than Kamala has done in 33 days,” said Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign.

Mr. Trump did not remain quiet after his convention. Two days after it ended in Milwaukee, he traveled to Michigan for his first joint rally with his newly crowned running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio.

Day 3 Mutianyu Great Wall Exploration (B, L) Mutianyu Great Wall - Sacred Way - Bird's Nest & Water Cube

This morning, you'll drive approximately 70 km (about 1.5 hours) to the iconic Mutianyu Great Wall , a less-crowded but beautiful section of this World Wonder. Begin your adventure by ascending the wall via an enclosed cable car , reaching No. 14 Watchtower, your starting point for an incredible experience. Hike westward along the wall, passing through towering watchtowers and capturing breathtaking views. The trail is moderate, suitable for most fitness levels, including families with children. For the more adventurous, challenge yourself by climbing the Great Man Slope to No. 20 Watchtower, the highest point, offering an even more spectacular vista. After exploring the wonderful sightseeing, hike back to No. 14 Watchtower and descend by the enclosed cable car. Optional Tobogan Experience: For an extra thrill at Mutianyu, consider taking the toboggan ride or the chairlift cable car to descend the Great Wall, both available at No. 6 Watchtower. Note that there might be a queue, especially during peak seasons like Chinese holidays. Continue your trip to Sacred Way , a 7-kilometer-long passage leading to the Imperial Tombs of the 13 Emperors of the Ming Dynasty. The Emperor, known as the Son of Heaven, would travel from Heaven to his country through the Sacred Way and return to Heaven through this road. Day 4 Beijing Departure (B, L) Temple of Heaven - Hutong - Beijing Departure

After breakfast, drive to Temple of Heaven , a historic site once used by emperors for sacrificial ceremonies. As you explore this grand complex of buildings and gardens, you’ll discover the rituals and beliefs of the Ming and Qing emperors, who sought divine blessings for good harvests through intricate ceremonies. Beyond its historical importance, you'll observe vibrant local life, with residents practicing Tai Chi, dancing, and engaging in various exercises among the lush pine woods. Then get back to the central city to hop on a rickshaw to experience the Beijing Hutongs - narrow alleys lined with historic quadrangle dwellings. This journey will immerse you in the traditional Beijing lifestyle, where you can explore charming antique shops, boutique stores, and witness the city’s historical evolution. You'll also visit a local family’s home in the Hutongs, offering a glimpse into everyday life. The tour ran very smoothly and provided some special insights into the history, life and scenery of Inner Mongolia. We were met at the Hohhot Railway Station on time; the itinerary was full but manageable and unfolded as promised; the hotels were clean and comfortable; and our guide (Cherry) and driver were fun company and made us very welcome, despite the obvious language barrier. The only minor hiccup was that our tour started on a Monday and was meant to take in the Inner Mongolian Museum that first day, but museums in China are generally closed on a Monday. However, we were able to rearrange the last full day of the tour to fit in the Museum, which is well worth visiting.

And that without stress, with restaurant tips and the most important sights and most interesting neighborhoods.

4 Day Itinerary NYC  Day 1 : Theatre District & Midtown

New York City’s Theatre District is the neighborhood where most Broadway theatres are found in Midtown West. West 54th Street bounds this area to the north, West 40th Street to the south, Eighth Ave to the west, and Sixth Avenue to the east.

Here you’ll find many theaters, hotels, restaurants, and other entertainment venues, as well as Times Square. There’s really no better part of the city to begin your 4- day trip , so let’s take a look a look at what to do in NYC’s Theatre District and Midtown on your first day:

Times Square

As we mentioned, this is the New York City neighborhood where Times Square is located. And even if you’ve never been to NYC, you should already know this is a bustling place. The best part is that there are plenty of things to see and do regardless of whether you go to Times Square during the day or night.  

If you’re looking for activities to do in Times Square, check out Madame Tussauds and National Geographic’s Ocean Odyssey. Or you can simply people-watch or meet someone dressed up as your favorite character – just don’t forget that if you take photos of these characters or interact with them, they’ll expect to be paid.  

When it comes time to eat in Times Square, try the best tacos in America at Los Tacos No. 1. , a slice of authentic NY pizza at Patzeria’s, or choose from hundreds of options at the 24-hour Times Square Diner. If you want something more upscale, head on over to Aureole , Carmine’s, or the Hunt & Fish Club .  

BIG BUS: Get a quick overview of Manhattan

NYC is home to many hop-on, hop-off bus tours offered by Big Bus. So, once it’s time to leave Times Square and move on, get on one of these buses and ride to the next location. Thanks to onboard commentary, this is a great way to see and get to know the area. Not to mention, it’s a nice reprieve if you’re not used to walking so many miles per day.  

Bryant Park

For the next stop on day 1, we have Bryant Park. It’s a charming little gem found right behind the New York Public Library. Bryant Park makes you think you’ve left NYC and entered Paris, and it makes a wonderful place to read a book, enjoy a picnic, or just rest your feet for a few minutes.  

Grand Central Terminal

Grand Central Terminal is just as beautiful and busy as you would expect. Sure, you’ve probably seen it featured in countless shows and movies over the years, but seeing it is believing, as the television does not capture the stunning beauty of the building’s turquoise ceiling or the sheer number of people who travel through here daily.  

Anytime you’re near Grand Central, be sure to stop at Sarge’s Delicatessen & Diner for an authentic, inexpensive breakfast or brunch. If you’re in a hurry, grab a quick bite at Bagel Express; their food is simple, tasty, and affordable.  

One Vanderbilt The Summit

Summit One Vanderbilt is NYC’s newest attraction that recently opened in October 2021. The building altered the look of the city’s skyline, which provides guests with a whole new experience.  

Summit One features a deck, mirrored rooms, and the world’s tallest rack-and-pinion elevator system that features cars that are 90 square feet each, which makes them the world’s largest glass floor elevators!

There are several different packages to choose from, and the one you choose decides how much of the experience you get to enjoy. For example, the Summit Experience allows you access to all 4 floors, and you can step into glass skyboxes that sit 1,000 feet over Midtown below.  

Alternatively, you can choose the Summit Ascent package, which includes access to the entire experience and the glass elevators at their highest point. This is a must-see attraction for anyone looking for the best views of NYC and should definitely be a part of your first day.  

This is perhaps the most famous and expensive street in all of New York City – 5th Avenue or as it’s commonly called “Millionaire’s Row.” This road stretches the entire length of Manhattan both north and south.  

Regardless of whether you buy anything or not, 5th Avenue should be on your itinerary. There’s something about marveling at the most expensive retail space in the world, and it almost makes you feel as if you’re on Ginza in Tokyo or Champs-Elysees in Paris.  

The best shopping areas are found closest to Central Park, where you’ll find stores such as Cartier and Armani. You’ll also find the famous NYC Apple store, where they offer laptops and free internet access.  

Another great thing about exploring 5th Avenue is that you’ll find the Empire State Building, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and many museums.  

Empire State Building

Speaking of the Empire State Building, this is the next stop on your first-ever trip to NYC. Completed in 1931 as the world’s tallest building, this 102-story skyscraper symbolizes the resilience and hope of NYC and its people. Today, the building is used primarily for office space, but it is also home to two observation decks and many unique exhibits.  

You have a few options for how you can enjoy this iconic building. First, you can travel to the main observation deck at the 86th Floor Observatory. This is the city’s most famed open-air observatory, where you’ll enjoy 360-degree views of the city.  

For those who want to see even better breathtaking views, check out the 102nd Floor Observatory, where you’ll find floor-to-ceiling views that can extend up to 80 miles on clear days. Regardless of whether you go inside, it’s still a legendary building to see in person.

4 Day Itinerary NYC  Day 2 : Hudson Yards, Chelsea, Meatpacking District

On day 2 of this 4 Day Itinerary NYC, you’ll explore the Meatpacking District, Chelsea, and Hudson Yards, which are all located in Midtown Manhattan . At one time, this was Manhattan’s hub of industry, but in recent times it has become one of the most cultivated cultural neighborhoods in NYC.  

Chelsea is on downtown Manhattan’s west side and is an expensive area with many things to do, such as historical sights, off-Broadway theatre, dining, and more. This area also encompasses the ultra-chic Meatpacking District , where you’ll find posh nightlife, fine dining, and luxury shopping.  

Chelsea is adored by art fans and is well-known for its concentration of galleries. Tourists love these neighborhoods because it’s very walkable and still an up-and-coming section of New York City. Now, let’s take a look at what your second day in NYC has in store for you!

Circle Line - Best of NYC Cruise

The best way to start your second day in New York City is by hopping aboard the Best of NYC Cruise offered by Circle Line. This is the only sightseeing cruise that goes completely around Manhattan, which means you get to see all of NYC’s most iconic landmarks from the comfort of a boat in under three hours!

Landmarks you can expect to see along this cruise are the Statue of Liberty, High Line, Ellis Island, Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, Gracie Mansion, Yankee Stadium, and much more. And the best part is that award-winning tour guides narrate each Best of NYC Cruises, so you’ll learn every significant detail during the trip.  

Explore Hudson Yards

Hudson Yards is one of the most exciting places to visit in New York City, especially if you only have 4 days on the itinerary. It’s home to two of the most photographable places in NYC, so you’ll want to buy tickets for both the Vessel and Edge .  

The Vessel is a honeycomb-shaped building that features 154 floors and sits in the center of Hudson Yards. Climb to the top and take in the views of the Hudson River, or take advantage of all the photo opportunities on the ground. You should know that if you plan to climb this structure, you have to buy tickets, and it’s definitely worth buying them online. Also, they only allow groups of two up at a time (one additional information: right now the Vessel is closed).

Bonus Tip: If you visit NYC around the holidays, Hudson Yards puts on a fantastic light display that you shouldn’t miss!

The Edge Observation Deck

As you’re walking north in Hudson Yards, you’ll notice an eye-catching building that’s made of glass and has a triangular-shaped platform coming from the top. If you take our advice and buy tickets to this attraction, you’ll be standing on that triangle very soon.  

As you walk inside of Hudson Yards’ central shopping mall, it may remind you of Singapore or Dubai with the upmarket feel and pristine finish. Keep moving to the fourth floor, as this is where you’ll find the entrance for Edge. Outside of the attraction, many neat exhibits teach visitors about renewable energy and how waste and air filtration work inside the building.  

The elevator ride that carries you from the fourth floor to the 100th is really exhilarating and a favorite of many people, as it’s like no other experience. Upon reaching the top of Edge, you are met with breathtaking views that are even better during sunset.  

After you finish here, be sure to walk up to 34th Street, past Penn Station, and see the famous NYC Macy’s store! At this point of day two, you may be ready for a meal. If so, check out places such as the Backyard Cafe at Hudson Yards, Wild Ink, Whitmans, The Tavern, or one of many eateries at the Chelsea Market.  

After you’ve had a bite to eat, head on over to the High Line, this is a fan favorite and offers some of the most beautiful views of the local area. Essentially, the High Line is an abandoned railroad track that’s been turned into an urban walkway and park. There are few other places in the world where you can experience such a mixed and improbable use of space – who builds a garden in the sky?

The High Line is an excellent place to take a stroll and see nature. The entire hike is about a mile and a half, but you don’t have to walk the entire way; just be sure to spend time enjoying the art and views.  

Meatpacking District

NYC’s Meatpacking District is a trendy commercial area located on the far west side between the West Village and Chelsea . In this section of NYC, you’ll find luxury designer clothing stores, a portion of the High Line, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and more!  

The cobblestone streets are lined with hip clubs and restaurants that have recently taken over the enormous spaces that once used to be home to none other than meat packaging facilities. So, take advantage of places such as Plunge Rooftop Bar and Lounge , Brass Monkey NYC , and the Famous Sky Bridge .  

Pier 54 - Little Island

Little Island is one of NYC’s newest attractions and is very special, as it’s a park built in the Hudson River atop 132 gorgeous tulip-shaped concrete stilts. It’s located at Pier 54 in Hudson River Park and is easily accessible via the High Line.  

This is a great stop for your second day in New York City because it’s designed with walking paths, gentle trees, and over 35 different species of trees, so it’s a true oasis in the middle of a concrete jungle. The highlight of Little Island Park is the amphitheater built next to the water, and there are also art exhibits and event spaces.  

Visit a Broadway Shows

As your second day comes to an end, grab some dinner at Dos Caminos , Catch NYC, RH Rooftop Restaurant, or Serafina Meatpacking and then make your way to take in a Broadway show. Even if this isn’t usually your scene, you are in New York City and the home of Broadway, so don’t miss out.  

It is worth mentioning that Broadway Shows can be expensive, but the experience is unforgettable. So, plan for this and try to book tickets in advance as they may be cheaper. Some popular shows right now include Hamilton , Wicked , Lion King , and more.

4 Day Itinerary NYC  Day 3 : Financial District, DUMBO in Brooklyn

Welcome to your third day in NYC! Today you’ll experience New York City’s Financial District and DUMBO/Brooklyn. The city’s bustling financial heart is home to many glittering skyscrapers and Wall Street. During the workweek and evenings, the sidewalks are busy with young professionals working and filling the bars and restaurants of Stone Street and South Street Seaport.  

Once you get into DUMBO/Brooklyn, you’ll be surrounded by warehouses that have been converted into high-end restaurants, independent boutiques, and trendy cafes. On the north end, you’ll find Jane’s Carousel and on the waterfront is a former tobacco factory converted into a gallery and performance scene.  

Days 1 and 2 were busy, but day 3 has even more in store for you; be sure to drink lots of coffee in the morning and get started early! It’s probably best to grab a quick bite to eat, such as a bagel or donuts. So, let’s look at day 3 of our 4 Day Itinerary NYC:  

Battery Park

Many people know this park at the southernmost tip of Manhattan as a landing and/or departure point of the Staten Island Ferry (a free crossing enables a sensational view to the skyline). Battery Park is one of the oldest public parks in New York and is of historical importance for New York: the first Dutch settlers are said to have arrived here when they founded New Amsterdam.

Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island (Ferry & Stop)

No trip to NYC is complete without stopping at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and this is especially true if it’s your first time visiting the city. However, as you would imagine, this is a top-rated destination, so it can take a good chunk of your day if you don’t plan properly. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you take the first ferry over to the island in the morning. Not only will this shorten the time it takes to visit Lady Liberty, but you’ll be on Liberty Island with just one group of people. Also, keep in mind that buying a ticket to the attraction is the only way you’re allowed to set foot on Liberty Island.  

After you’ve seen everything there is to see on Liberty Island, hop back on the ferry. It stops on Ellis Island before making its way back to Manhattan. To get the most from this experience, be sure to get off the ferry and check out the National Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island. Yet, only do this if you are a quick explorer or very interested because there is a lot of ground to cover today!

One World Observatory

NYC has a million things to experience, but there’s only one way to see all of them at once. Your journey begins as you hop aboard a SkyPod in One World Trade Center, which travels 102 floors in just 47 seconds until you are transported to the top of the Western Hemisphere’s tallest building.  

After arriving 102 stories high, you find yourself face-to-face with one of the world’s most iconic skylines. Even if you’ve seen the city millions of times, you’ve never seen it quite like this! The Observatory consists of three massive levels where you’ll discover lots of surprises along the way.  

If you are hungry, be sure to stop by the cafe for a delicious bite to eat. Then step onto the Sky Portal and wander high above the crowds below. Finally, go on an interactive tour of NYC with the assistance of a Skyline Concierge who can answer questions and inform you about the city’s long and storied history. 9/11 Memorial and Museum

Though most of our 4 Day Itinerary NYC focuses on the fun and lively side of the city, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum remind us that some of the city’s most crucial parts of history are very dark.  

The Twin Towers used to stand in NYC’s Financial District on Manhattan’s southern tip, but today you’ll find the 9/11 Memorial in their place. The memorial is evocative and free to see, but if you feel up to it (as this is a very powerful and emotional experience), you should consider visiting the museum as well. Yet, regardless of whether you go into the museum or not, the 9/11 Memorial should be part of your 4 day NYC trip.  

Wall Street

Wall Street covers eight city blocks in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. It runs between the East River in the east to Broadway in the west over to South Street and is the second most famous street besides Broadway.  

Exploring this area can be tricky, but it is a lot of fun. Begin by finding the New York Stock Exchange at the corner of Broadway and Wall Street. Though you can no longer go inside, seeing the building is something special itself. Also, be sure to take advantage of the photo op with the famed charging bull statue!  

Other activities to partake in this area include Battery Park, Trinity Church, Federal Hall, and Stone Street. If you’re hungry when on Wall Street, try out places such as Neapolitan Express, SkyCafe, or one of the many food trucks you’ll find in the area.  

South Street Seaport

As you move south along Wall Street, keep an eye out for South Street Seaport. This section of the neighborhood is located right on the edge of the Financial District and is a lively part of town that’s spent the last several years rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy.  

When you visit the seaport, you can enjoy live music, learn the local history, or grab some food at the Fulton farmer’s market. This area is only a short, 15-minute walk from the stock exchange and makes for the best excuse to rest your feet near the water.  

Brooklyn Bridge

After you’ve seen everything in the Financial District, it’s time to head over the famed Brooklyn Bridge. Of course, you can take a taxi or rideshare across the bridge to make the trip shorter, but if you feel up to it, you can also walk across. The bridge is just over one mile long, and you can even take a guided tour!

DUMBO & Brooklyn Heights

After crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, you’ll find that Brooklyn is home to some of NYC’s most exciting neighborhoods and sites. One that’s gained a lot of attention and adoration is DUMBO, which could also be partly due to its catchy name.  

This waterfront neighborhood has a fascinating and rich history and many activities for visitors to enjoy. Not only is DUMBO a premier art district, but there are also lots of great places to eat, such as Grimaldi’s Pizza , The River Cafe, Jacques Torres chocolate factory, Butler Bakery , and more. Circle Line - Harbor Lights Night Cruise

Finish out your third day in New York City with the Harbor Lights Cruise. Hop aboard one of Circle Line’s state-of-the-art boats and take in the views of NYC twinkling at night. This unforgettable experience lasts about two hours, and you’ll see landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and more.  

Just make sure your camera is ready because you’ll be mere yards away from some of the best photos of your life. And don’t worry; you won’t miss a thing because there will be an award-winning tour guide narrating the City’s story. 4 Day Itinerary NYC  Day 4 : Upper West Side, Midtown, SoHo, Little Italy

Finally, for day 4 of our 4 Day Itinerary NYC, you’ll spend the last day of your trip touring the Upper West Side , Midtown, SoHo, and Little Italy. And just when you thought your vacation wouldn’t get any better, we’re rounding the trip off with some laid-back activities that will help you wind down from the past several exciting days.  

Let’s see what these areas of NYC have in store for you on day number four:  

Central Park

You probably thought we forgot about Central Park, but you know the saying – saving the best for last! Central Park is a masterpiece that Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux created. Though the park has gone through extensive restorations over time, the initial purpose of acting as an open-air oasis amid a large, metropolitan city has always stayed the same.  

This national landmark is a must-visit attraction regardless of what season you visit or why you’re visiting. This park has something for folks of all ages, from horse and carriage rides and bike rentals to the Central Park Zoo and activities such as ice skating and Strawberry Fields.  

American Museum of Natural History

After finishing up at Central Park, you may want to stop at one of the many local restaurants such as the Loeb Boathouse, Tavern On The Green, or Maoz Vegetarian and make your way to the American Museum of Natural History.  

This museum is the world’s largest natural history museum, as it spans 4 city blocks and encompasses 25 interconnected buildings. Even if you’re not a fan of museums, this one is a must! It’s home to over 34 million specimens of animals, plants, fossils, human remains, rocks, minerals, meteorites, and human cultural artifacts. Though keep in mind that only a fraction of the museum’s artifacts are on show at any given time.  

Visit the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) ...

The next stop on our list is the MoMA, or Museum of Modern Art. This art museum is located in Midtown Manhattan on 53rd between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. MoMA plays a significant role in the development and collection of modern art. It’s often referred to as the world’s largest and most influential museum for modern art. And there’s no wonder considering that the MoMA features five floors of art. So, take as much time as you’d like to explore the exhibits and collections before moving on.

We hope you’re not tired of seeing beautiful art because your next stop is the Met. New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is the United States’ largest art museum that controls a permanent collection of over two million works divided into 17 different departments.  

Seeing over two million pieces of art could take days by itself. So, it’s highly recommended that you plan for this part of your trip and already know what you want to see. At the very least, be sure to find Van Gogh, Hatshepsut Seated, the Temple of Dendur, and the Greek and Roman Statue Court.  

Discover the neighborhoods of SoHo, The Village and Little Italy

SoHo is an upscale residential and high-end shopping area where you’ll enjoy some of NYC’s best people-watching. Stroll up and down the area’s cobblestoned streets , admiring the rows of shops and houses. If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, be sure to stop by the Dominique Ansel Bakery and order one of the legendary Cronuts.  

If you’re in the mood to keep walking, you can continue on to West Village or Greenwich Village . If not, find a posh SoHo restaurant and enjoy some food. Some of the best places to eat in Soho include Antique Garage, Blue Ribbon Brasserie, and Dig.  

On day 4 of our 4 Day Itinerary NYC, your final stop is Little Italy. The best part is that if you’re not in the mood for trendy SoHo food, Little Italy is the quintessential dining spot ! You’ll find local favorites such as Lombardi’s Pizza, Onieal’s, and Angelo’s of Mulberry Street .  

Yet, Little Italy is so much more than just an excellent place to eat. This area is also home to many historic landmarks, street art, gorgeous architecture, mafia locations, TV and movie locations, and the perfect place to find upscale consignment shops!

Are 4 days in New York City enough?

I think 4 days for New York is great, because you have more time than if you only visit the Big Apple for a weekend. Of course 5 days, 1 week or even 10 days are even better! In the 4 days NYC as in our itinerary you experience the most important neighborhoods and attractions of the city – and that quite relaxed!

Is $1000 enough for 4 days in New York?

Yes! Because if you know how, you can save a lot of money in NYC! First of all, check out the different sightseeing passes for New York . You can easily save 50% on admission to the best attractions in NYC.

What should I pack for 4 days in New York?

This is the most important tip that I have: Wear Comfortable Shoes ! This probably goes without saying, but NYC is best explored on foot, and you will spend a great deal of time walking from one place to another. When you consider that the average New Yorker walks about 10 miles per day just during their daily lives, you’ll see that comfortable shoes are a must!

What else do you need? This depends a bit on your travel time: 2 shorts or long pants, 2-3 t-shirts and a sweater are sufficient for the warm months. In the colder months you should definitely have several warm sweaters and a jacket!

How much is a 4-day trip to NYC?

If you’re in New York for 4 days, the hotel and food will use up most of your travel budget. A 3 star hotel in Midtown Manhattan starts at $100 per night , a 4 star hotel is $150 and prices for a night in a 5 star hotel start at $300 , so expect overnight costs of $300, $450 and $900 respectively for 3 nights.

For breakfast in the diner you can calculate with $15 per person and in the restaurants with $40 per person . Of course, it can quickly be more expensive.

Sightseeing costs: I can’t stress this enough: be sure to check out the various New York City sightseeing passes. It’s a simple and easy way to save 50% off the regular admission price. For the New York Pass for 4 days you can visit as many attractions as you want. It costs you just $200!

How do you plan a 4 day trip?

What is important to me when planning a trip with 4 days in NYC, I have already implemented in the above itinerary. The attractions you see per day should be close to each other, so you don’t waste a lot of time by communing.

Furthermore, you should plan enough time where you just do nothing else but let New York City work its magic on you. This is best done in one of the many cafes or during a walk along the High Line or 5th Avenue.

• The restaurant is only open for carry-out/delivery and room service. Limited outdoor dining will also be available.

Best Getaway near Denver: Aspen, three hours by car

Denver offers urban gratification, but no visit to Colorado is complete without experiencing the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. COVID status and policies:  This hotel is currently open and accepting reservations and announced new procedures that include:

• No more than 50% capacity for both guest rooms and restaurants.
• All rooms are guaranteed to be empty for a minimum of 24 hours prior to each new guest's arrival.
• Room assignments will be staggered in order to ensure common entryways are not shared.
• Some amenities have been removed from the rooms and are available upon request. These include bath amenities, hairdryers, kitchenware, iron/ironing boards, robes, and stationary. Newspapers will not be available until further notice but local news is available online.

• Guests from any hotspot state may be required to certify that they have received a negative COVID-19 test within 72-hours of their arrival date. To certify, guests will be asked to sign a Certification of Compliance form upon arrival at the property.
• Programming will including take-out, picnic-style, safe dine-in options, and al fresco dining on the deck. Yoga will be held outside.
• Spa services, the fitness center, hot tubs and the debut of the new restaurant, Whiteclover, have been temporarily deferred. The oceanfront pool is in service.
• The hotel has adopted rigorous cleaning and hygiene measures developed in consultation with state, CDC, and global public health authorities. Antibacterial hand-sanitization stations are offered around the resort, and face coverings are encouraged in common areas.
• Safe physical distancing practices are suggested in all public areas with reduced capacities across outlets.
