As evidenced by the meteoric resurgence of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” after its appearance on “ Stranger Things 4,” the show’s soundtrack has become just as much a phenomenon as its thrilling plot.

With the final two episodes of Season 4 dropping on Netflix today, Legacy Recordings has released the complete soundtrack to “ Stranger Things 4 ” in digital and physical forms. The album contains six additional songs, including an extended version of Bryce Miller and Alloy Tracks’ remix of Journey ‘s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” featuring the band’s singer Steve Perry.

“I was stunned at how cool it was,” Perry said of the original remix in a statement. “I found out that Bryce Miller and Troy MacCubbin had created it and told them how much I loved it. One week later, I had an idea for an extended version, so I called Bryce and we assembled our extended remix. Being a huge fan of the show, having my music on the soundtrack made me very happy! I truly love both these remixed versions as much as I do the original recording from the Journey ‘Frontiers’ record.”

Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) [Bryce Miller/Alloy Tracks Remix]

" Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) [Bryce Miller/Alloy Tracks Remix] " is the song used in the Season 4 trailer and the ending of "Papa" . It is written by Stephen Ray Perry and Jonathan Cain, produced by Kevin Elson and Mike Stone and performed by Journey. It was released on April 26, 2022.

Here we stand Worlds apart, hearts broken in two, two, two Sleepless nights Losing ground, I'm reachin' for you, you, you Feelin' that it's gone Could change your mind If we can't go on To survive the tide, love divides Someday, love will find you Break those chains that bind you One night will remind you How we touched and went our separate ways If he ever hurts you True love won't desert you You know I still love you Though we touched and went our separate ways Troubled times Caught between confusion and pain, pain, pain Distant eyes Promises we made were in vain, in vain, in vain If you must go, I wish you love You'll never walk alone Take care my love Miss you love Someday, love will find you Break those chains that bind you One night will remind you How we touched and went our separate ways If he ever hurts you True love won't desert you You know I still love you Though we touched and went our separate ways Oh Someday, love will find you Break those chains that bind you One night will remind you If he ever hurts you True love won't desert you You know I still love you I still love you, girl I really love you, girl And if he ever hurts you True love won't desert you No No

The Real Name Of Stranger Things' Upside Down Is Much Less Chilling (It's No Surprise Nobody Uses It)

Ncis: origins showrunner addresses potential plot hole involving gibbs' dad, the acolyte failed because star wars forgot george lucas' most important lesson.

The Stranger Things season 4 trailer plays a Journey song that carries a deeper meaning for the upcoming penultimate season. Releasing almost three years after season 3, Stranger Things season 4 picks up six months from where the previous story left off — with the defeat of the Shadow Monster and Billy Hargrove's death during the Battle of Starcourt, as well as the seeming demise of Jim Hopper — and sees the core cast split into three groups across the United States and the world.

In Russia, there's Hopper, who survived the explosion underneath Starcourt mall and is now a prisoner, and Joyce, who appears to be attempting to rescue him — and they'll be joined by an as-of-yet unconfirmed character. Then in California, Mike Wheeler and the Byers family, along with a local named Argyle, get mixed up in season 4's story with the Upside Down. And of course, back in Hawkins, there's Eleven (traveling from the west coast), who returns to Hawkins Lab once again. Presumably everyone else, such as Dustin and Nancy, join the fun at Hawkins as well, as they investigate the Creel House.

Related:  Why Stranger Things Season 4’s Split Release Strategy Will Work

The Stranger Things season 4 trailer plays the Journey song "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," a classic rock song from 1983 that, on one hand, thematically exemplifies the growing pains experienced by several characters in season 4 but, on the other hand, reminds viewers that this is still a story about two literal worlds — the regular world and the Upside Down, and the closer the two seem to be clashing together. A war is brewing, after all, as Dr. Sam Owens indicates to Eleven.

To the first point, Jonathan and Nancy, Mike and Eleven, and Joyce and Hopper are all lovers separated by vast distances, with each experiencing their own form of heartbreak. For Joyce and Eleven, they believe Hopper is dead ; Mike desperately wants to see Eleven but can only do so after six months; and Jonathan and Nancy grew closer towards the end of season 3 only to be driven apart by the Byers' move to California. Even Will is separated from his closest friends in Hawkins. Then there's the Upside Down. It wouldn't be a new season of Stranger Things if a rift to the Upside Down didn't open back up in Hawkins — or elsewhere, for that matter. So much of the series revolves around the alternate dimension that audiences are finally starting to see that wall holding it back start to crumble.

Another interesting point to "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) playing in the Stranger Things season 4 trailer is the background of the Journey song. It was originally written and performed (before being recorded) by Journey when they were on tour and some of the band members were going through difficult divorces, as well as other troubling times. The camaraderie exhibited in the song's creation, not to mention its themes of acceptance, composure, and recognition of the past and future, help drive home its true meaning, that the future is uncertain yet the journey was worth it all along.

Listen to the Foreboding ‘Stranger Things’ Remix of Journey’s ‘Separate Ways’ (Video)

Time for a mix tape also featuring Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill”

Mild spoilers ahead for “Stranger Things 4” episode 8, “Papa.”

Episode 8 of “Stranger Things” Season 4 introduced another 1980s musical gem into the show, a dark, eerie remix of Journey’s 1983 hit “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” that’s so good it made us re-watch the scene it was introduced in just to hear it again. If you feel the same way, you can listen to the track right now.

The track plays in the final scene of the episode, as Max (Sadie Sink), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Erica (Priah Ferguson) exit the gang’s stolen Winnebago and head up to the “Murder House” to get things set up for their plan to kill Vecna.

The “Steve Perry & Bryce Miller Extended Remix” of the song, along with the “Bryce Miller/Alloy Tracks Remix” are the most popular tracks from the “Stranger Things 4” soundtrack on iTunes right now. Both are available to buy from iTunes for $1.29.

The original version of the song made it back onto the charts in April when it was featured in the first teaser trailer for Season 4. The song landed on Billboard‘s Rock Digital Song Sales chart at the time, surging 208% over the previous week.

Whether the original “Separate Ways” or the new remixes can outdo the remarkable comeback of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” which hit #1 for the first time ever, remains to be seen. Bush’s 1985 song, which is Max (Sadie Sink)’s literal lifeline in her faceoff with Vecna, is still at #2 on iTunes’ Top Songs as of Saturday.

The soundtrack for Season 4 currently sits at #5 on iTunes’ Top Albums chart. It also features “Dream a Little Dream of Me” by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald and, of course, Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” which became Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn)’s most metal moment ever.

“Separate Ways” hit #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the mainstream rock chart when it was originally released in March 1983. The video features the original band members, including Perry, air-playing their instruments with epic commitment.

Journey’s ‘Separate Ways’ Soundtracks Epic ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Trailer

Netflix has released the trailer for Stranger Things  Season 4, teasing another massive helping of supernatural action and drama to the tune of Journey 's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)."

You can watch the trailer below.

The third season of the sci-fi smash, which last aired in 2019, ended with the Hawkins, Ind., protagonists battling the Mind Flayer at the recently opened Starcourt Mall. The heroes emerged victoriously, but the battle cost Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) her powers. Eleven and the Byers family moved out of Hawkins to stay safe, mourning the absence of police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour), who was still alive and being held captive by Russians.

The Season 4 trailer shows the teenage heroes grappling with the confusing, isolating social dynamics of high school, with Eleven and Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) struggling to fit in at their new school. Meanwhile, a new threat rears its head, with Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser) issuing a grave warning to Eleven: "A war is coming. I'm afraid your friends in Hawkins are very much in the eye of the storm."

"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" provides a fitting soundtrack to the characters' struggles to navigate this difficult new phase of their lives without each other. With Hopper's condition still unknown and a return to the Upside Down looming, the heroes of Hawkins could quite literally be worlds apart. The Season 4 trailer also features a yet-unidentified character ripping a guitar solo amid the supernatural chaos — most likely Eddie Munson , the previously announced metalhead who runs Hawkins High's official D&D club, the Hellfire Club.

Stranger Things co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently announced that the show would end with its fifth season. Due to its extended runtime, Season 4 will premiere in two "volumes," the first arriving on May 27 and the second on July 1.

Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) by Journey

SongfactsÂź:

  • Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain and lead vocalist Steve Perry wrote this song on tour during a period when two of the band members were going through painful divorces due to the stresses (and temptations) of life on the road. According to Journey's Time3 compilation, with guitarist Neal Schon and bass player Ross Valory going through painful - and expensive - divorces, Perry and Cain thought there should be some way to dredge something positive out of such circumstances. "There's got to be a more soulful way of looking at this," Perry told his collaborator, Cain. The pair worked out the tune in a hotel room using Cain's little Casio keyboard and the entire band worked up the fresh song the next afternoon at soundcheck, inserting the party-finished song into the program that night. "I think he mumbled his way through half the lyrics," said Cain, "but the audience just came unglued." The song was sitting in the band's pocket long before the beginning of sessions for the next album. Released as the first single off Frontiers , it zoomed up the charts to #8 in March 1983.
  • This was used in the TV series The O.C. in Season 1 Episode 21 (2004) when Seth and Ryan are on their way to the airport. It also plays in the first episode of the Netflix series GLOW (2017) in a fantasy scene where the main characters battle it out in the wrestling ring. Other uses of the song include: The Simpsons ("All's Fair in Oven War" - 2004) Cold Case ("Greed" - 2004) Yes Man (2008) TRON: Legacy (2010) >> Suggestion credit : Anthony - Hermosa Beach, CA
  • When MTV launched in 1981, the race was on to come up with unusual concepts for music videos. Journey staked their claim with the first ever "air band" video. That's right, the group played pretend instruments for much of the clip. Shot on a wharf in New Orleans, it was directed by Tom Buchholtz, who like many music video directors of the time, came from the world of directing commercials. Journey were dragged kicking and screaming into the video era. They knew MTV exposure was crucial for sales, but hated making the videos and left the concepts up to the directors, which is how they ended up on a wharf playing pretend instruments. In the book I Want My MTV by Craig Marks, we learn that lead singer Steve Perry cut his hair shortly before the shoot, and also that there was some drama on the set. Perry brought his girlfriend to the set - the same girl he sings about in " Oh Sherrie " - and she did not want Steve to have another girl playing his love interest in the video. "Sherrie was jealous and possessive," said Jonathan Cain. "There was a big kicking and screaming session. Sherrie was giving Steve a very bad time about that girl." Years later, Beavis and Butt-Head gave it a good mocking.
  • A remix by the composer Bryce Miller was used in the trailer for season 4 of the Netflix series Stranger Things in 2022. This version is surprisingly spooky, with the song's refrain sounding like a classic horror movie theme. The song quickly started trending and entered Billboard's Rock Digital Song Sales chart dated April 23, 2022. An extended version of the remix appears at the end of episode 8, "Papa," which sets the stage for a climatic battle. Steve Perry, a big fan of the show, signed off on the project and got involved after hearing a demo of the remix. It was his idea to do an extended version, which appears on the show's soundtrack. As for the significance of the lyrics, Bobby Gumm of the marketing firm that worked on the remix explained : "The characters, at the end of the third season, did all go their separate ways, and even the ones that are still living in the same town have gone their separate ways a little bit. They're in different cliques and things like that."
  • Halestorm's vocalist Lzzy Hale covered this song with Daughtry in January 2023. The video for their version wasn't planned. "I don't think either of us, Lzzy or myself, were actually 'dressed' for a video shoot," said Chris Daughtry. "We were basically just trying to get some b-roll to capture the studio experience of recording this track. But when we got the footage back, it was like, 'Well... This looks way cooler than I expected, so... I guess we have a music video now?' Haha. It was the most low-key, low-pressure video I've ever done."

The 1983 smash surges in sales and streaming.

Journey ‘s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” returns to Billboard ‘s Rock Digital Song Sales chart dated April 23 following the inclusion of a reworked version of the song in the trailer for the fourth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things .

The ’80s classic debuts at No. 19 with 800 downloads sold in the April 8-14 tracking period, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. It sports a 208% surge over the previous week, sparked by its appearance in the series’ new trailer, which premiered April 12.

Additionally, “Ways” garnered 2 million official U.S. streams April 8-14, an 11% boost week-over-week.

On April 12 alone, “Ways” accumulated 227,000 official U.S. on-demand streams, up from 161,000 on April 11, a leap of 42%. It increased throughout the week, to 270,000 on April 13 (up 19% from the day before) and 283,000 on April 14 (up 5%).

“Ways” hit No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1983, becoming the fourth of Journey’s six top 10s, tallied in 1981-86. The song also spent four weeks atop the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, marking the band’s lone leader among eight top 10s.

In the trailer for the ’80s-set Stranger Things , the song retains frontman Steve Perry’s vocals but alters the instrumentation in certain parts to a moodier, more atmospheric sound.

The fourth season of Stranger Things is scheduled for release in two segments, the first due May 27 followed by the second half July 1.
