This upcoming Sunday I will go on my first ever HAL and Alaskan cruise. I have been reading this web site daily to learn all I can before I board. I read a thread a while back about the Southern gospel Alaskan cruise. I am pretty sure that the Gaithers were on it. My aunt is interested in a cruise like this for next year. I told my cousin that I have the perfect board to read and learn more about it. I knew that I could ask here and someone could help me. Please tell me where I can learn about these cruises. My aunt is interested in Alaska only.

I assume the "Gaithers" are a "Southern Gospel" singing group?

If that's the case a cruise featuring them would likely be either a "group" cruise, where an affinity group purchases a large block of cabins on a regular sailing, or a charter, where the affinity group books the entire ship. I would think your best bet to locate these cruises would be to google search "Gaither cruise" or maybe "Southern Gospel Cruise" and see what you come up with.

The cruise lines don't like people to know what large groups book blocks of cabins, because most cruisers will avoid that sailing due to the affinity group "taking over" various areas of the ship. in addition, these groups tend to go through "their" TA only and the cruise fares are sold a a premium vs "normal" fares from the cruise line.

Good luck in your search. And please, if you DO find this out, come back and tell us what ship & when so that we can plan ahead also.

Relax. I think the Gaither Homecoming Cruises are always full ship charters. They bring all their own entertainment onboard with them ... and the whole cruise is with a Christian slant. I hear they have no trouble whatsoever filling a boat, so it's to their advantage just to charter the ship, and thus have more control over the sailing.

I hear Gaither cruises are wonderful ... just that they are a bit pricey ... far more than you would pay for a berth on a regular sailing. I would imagine that's because not only of the quality of entertainment found onboard their sailings, but also because they probably close down the casino and regular bar service as well. Most Christian full ship charters do.

I am sorry. I should have specified a bit more in my original post. I basically want the link to where I can get more information. I did not want anyone to describe the cruise events etc. I read a thread not too long ago here on HAL about it. Some people had actually been on the cruise. One person posted the links to the information. That is what I am looking for. I do not want to offend anyone or get specific details. I would, however, like the links to get the specific details. I do know that these are popular cruises that book quickly.

On a similar note, TD Jakes had a charter cruise on the Oosterdam last summer while I was on board. What an atmosphere! I can truly say it was an amazing atmosphere with top notch entertainment...

And my favorite part, of course, was that I got to meet LL Cool J, who was a booked guest in the Penthouse Suite...

We are already booked on the Alaska 2006 cruise and can't wait! It is definitely a full ship charter and they are already sold out. Yes, it is pricey but for a "once in a lifetime" cruise.............. how could you not.

Reggie & Ladye Love Smith

Reggie and Ladye Love Smith have become an integral part of the Gaither Homecoming family during the past 18 years; first as back-up singers in Nashville, and later as a feature vocal duet in the award-winning Gaither Homecoming video series.
