7 Super-Luxe Trips for the Traveler Who Has Seen Everything

The Four Season Private Jet

Time is luxury, and having it all means squat without the calendar space to enjoy it. For ultra-high-end travel operators, the search for lost time has led to demand for a product that may sound slightly down market: package itineraries.

“More and more, travelers are looking for immersive, personalized, and worry-free travel experiences,” says Marc Speichert, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at the Four Seasons .

There is, however, one massive difference between these package itineraries and the geriatric-themed bus tours of yore: They’re by private jet, yacht, and Bentley.

For years, the Four Seasons has offered a Private Jet Experience , which Speichert says is about creating “a seamless end-to-end journey with our legendary comfort, service, and amenities.”

In a similar vein, White Desert speeds up Antarctic exploration by replacing the multi-day southward cruise with a private jet, a luxury whip.

“Many of our clients are company owners or entrepreneurs with highly pressurized jobs,” says Mindy Roberts, the company’s CMO. “When it comes to leisure travel, they’ve said they enjoy that the decision-making has been taken away from them and they can completely relax and be on holiday.”

Another factor driving growth in ultra-luxury, pre-planned, package bookings is their ability to facilitate slow travel. Both the Four Seasons and White Desert offer tours lasting upwards of three weeks, leaving plenty of time to explore each stop thoroughly.

Kalindi Juneja, CEO of U.K. firm PoB Hotels , says its guests are increasingly opting for longer stays in fewer destinations—its longest curated itinerary is 12 days. The brand is “prioritizing depth over breadth in their exploration,” says Juneja. “‘Authenticity’ drives guests to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations, engage with local artisans, savor traditional cuisine, and participate in cultural activities unique to each location on their itinerary.”

Below is a look at some of the most extravagant planned holidays on the market today and all the wild perks they offer.

Around the World in 24 Days

enjoy tours and travels

Four Seasons offer a wide range of itineraries using the private-jet service it launched in 2015, with eight tours taking place each year and varying between 13 and 24 nights in duration.

The World of Adventures tour begins in Seattle, spending a couple of days exploring the city and getting to know your jet-mates for the next three weeks, before heading to Kyoto for the first of eight stops. Along the way you will experience an immersion in Japanese tea culture, unwind in the incredible tropical nature of Bali and the Seychelles , and re-energise amidst the buzz of Bogotá.

The stand-out experiences, however, are the time spent among wild mountain gorillas in Rwanda, observing these extraordinary animals at breathtakingly close quarters, and sailing on a specially chartered yacht around the Galápagos Islands. This trip has it all, from vibrant cities to truly remote wilderness—and by the time you reach your final leg in Fort Lauderdale, consider extending for a couple of days more to catch your breath and reflect on all you’ve seen.

Seven Continent Completist

White Desert 2019/2020 season

Having seen huge success with its South Pole trips—including its Echo Camp being named as one of Robb Report’s Top 50 Luxury Hotels in 2023—White Desert has created an expanded tour dubbed White Desert World that takes guests to all seven continents.

Meet your group in Mexico City for a day before shoving off for 21 days of flying gradually eastwards. You’ll take in the majesty of Easter Island, the orangutans of Borneo and tigers of Jaipur, and the eclectic buzz of Istanbul before heading south through Namibia and South Africa and eventually arriving at Wolf Fang runway for a day spent on the planet’s most southerly continent. Those with more of an appetite for cold can opt to spend a further five days in Antarctica (there won’t be any nighttime there at that point in the year), exploring the whole of the landscape, meeting the local penguins, and witnessing some of the most astounding beauty our world has to offer.

From $188,000 per person; optional Antarctica extension $37,500

Britain by Bentley

enjoy tours and travels

You may not immediately associate a luxury car brand with travel bookings, but that’s exactly why Bentley wanted to create this Extraordinary Journeys experience.

Bentley has led trips in destinations across the world, but the flagship route is in its home country, the United Kingdom. The week begins with a tour of the factory in Crewe followed by a dinner on the very line where each Bentley is handmade, with the models currently in production suspended above your head. An early start the next day lets a fleet of Bentleys—all provided by the brand, with the option for you to swap models each morning—begin the journey to the Highlands of Scotland and the home of partner brand the Macallan . Lunch and refreshment stops call in at some of the finest properties in the U.K., and routes are specifically plotted to provide maximum driving enjoyment. The crescendo is an incredible whisky tasting and dinner inside Macallan’s distillery—don’t worry, the chauffeurs will drive you afterwards.

A Gracious Grand Tour

enjoy tours and travels

A few hundred years ago it was customary for the wealthy young men of Europe to complete a Grand Tour after their education. They traveled to the most cultured cities on the continent with the goal of expanding their horizons and becoming more well-rounded, “worldly” individuals.

Rocco Forte Hotels , taking inspiration from that period, have leveraged its network of luxury hotels across Europe to create an itinerary that reflects the most popular spots of the 17th century, from Scotland to Sicily. The trip begins in Edinburgh at the legendary Balmoral hotel. You’re invited to spend two nights first in the Scottish capital and then in London before heading through the channel tunnel to Brussels. From there, you’ll travel through Germany and Italy to eventually arrive in Sicily.

In total, eight of Europe’s most cultured cities are on the menu, with experiences arranged in each to showcase the local art scenes. Travel from point-to-point is on first-class rail, catering to the taste for slow travel and allowing you to enjoy not just the cities you’ll stop in, but the landscapes between them as well.

From roughly $8,600 per person

Best of British

enjoy tours and travels

The PoB Hotels group has more than 50 properties all across the British mainland in its portfolio. Members include country retreats, like the Fife Arms and Glenapp Castle in Scotland, as well as city spots such as west London’s the Hari. The group’s PoB Breaks tour allows you to join up stays at multiple hotels, creating a road map for exploring the hidden pockets of Scotland, England, and Wales.

Options range from a short four-day tour of northern England based on the recommendations of a local celebrity chef to an extended 12-night exploration of the west coast of Scotland. And if the line-ups PoB have chosen don’t completely meet your requirements, simply use the interactive map on its booking site to create your own bespoke itinerary from scratch.

Fjord Like a Nord

enjoy tours and travels

The utter seclusion of the Norwegian fjords make them an ideal destination for those looking to escape the stresses of modern life. Local experts 62 Nord have curated a series of Drive the Fjords trips around the most opulent hotels in the region.

You’ll drive between each hotel along some exceptionally exciting roads in a Porsche Taycan . Dramatic scenery, world-class accommodation, and the chance to drive the legendary Trollstigen are among the attractions of this itinerary, but there is plenty more to discover along the way.

From roughly $9,000 based on double occupancy

The Set Collection Grand Tour

enjoy tours and travels

Another tour based on the wanderings of the aristocracy is the Set Collection Grand Tour . It’s a condensed version of the historic tour that visits the three founding members of the luxury hotel group.

The trip begins in London at the magnificent Hotel Café Royal before heading to Paris and Amsterdam. At every stage, the best of the art and culinary scenes in Europe’s most cosmopolitan cities is highlighted. You’ll spend three nights in each city, and the concierge team in each hotel— Hôtel Lutetia in Paris; Conservatorium in Amsterdam—works with you ahead of time to plan a bespoke agenda of experiences. Booking into suites includes private use of a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce or Mercedes for 10 hours each day, meaning your exploration of each city will be as opulent and relaxing as your accommodation.

Breaking news, it’s cuffing season for horny tarantulas as thousands of spiders travel the us looking for love.

They’ll go anywhere for love.

Arachnophobes beware: thousands of horny tarantulas are emerging from their subterranean dwellings and scouring America’s southwest for a soulmate.

“This event does happen every year, usually around the same time,” Lauren Davidson, Associate Curator of Entomology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, told BBC Science Focus of the frisky phenomenon.

The mass mating migration generally occurs from June-October (depending on the region), during which reproductively mature males — aged 8-10 years old — will seek mates across Colorado, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

A tarantula on the move.

What prompts this paramour pilgrimage?

“The females tend to stay in their burrows and emit pheromones to let males know where to find them,” Davidson explained.

Then, turned-on male tarantulas emerge from their silk-lined burrows hungry for love. Once they’ve tracked the perfume down to its source, the spider suitor will “knock at the door” by rhythmically tapping at the entrance.

If the courtship display is deemed acceptable, she could meet him.

Naturally, the idea of thousands of tarantulas — which are America’s largest spider — going on a love Odyssey might seem apocalyptic.

However, this sex pedition is actually rare to come across.

A tarantula in its burrow.

Male tarantulas are only alive for one mating season — they spend the rest of their lives underground — and only travel around half a mile from their burrows.

“It is very cyclical and region-dependent,” Davidson explained. “You really have to drive quite a way out of the city to see any of these males.”

“If people haven’t noticed these large numbers before, then they likely won’t notice them this year either,” she added.

Not to mention that tarantulas are also nocturnal, so the majority of this soulmate searching occurs at night.

If one does come across one of these amorous eight-leggers, they have nothing to fear as most are docile to the point that people handle them in the field sans incidents.

“They can bite, but their venom is comparable to a bee sting,” said Davidson.

However, the horny spiders have been known to cause traffic pileups while crossing the road.

In fact, these pilgrimages are much more perilous for the critters themselves, as along with getting run over, they can be devoured by the very female they are trying to court.

7 of the best and 7 of the worst cocktails to order, according to bartenders and beverage directors

  • Business Insider asked drink experts about the best and worst cocktails to order at a bar.
  • Classics, like an old-fashioned or a Negroni, are hit staples and easy to make.
  • House margaritas and daiquiris are often too sugary and syrupy to actually enjoy the alcohol.

Insider Today

If you're looking to enjoy a great-tasting cocktail, there are classics and new concoctions that are sure to please. But that also means there are others that may disappoint.

Business Insider spoke with bartenders, beverage directors, and hospitality workers to find out which cocktails you should (and shouldn't) order at restaurants and bars.

An old-fashioned is easy to make and delicious

Alisha Kaplan, a bar manager at Wolf's Ridge Brewing, told BI that a classic old-fashioned — typically made with sugar, bourbon, and bitters — gets you the most for your money.

"If you're looking for a boozy, spirit-forward cocktail, go with an old-fashioned," she said. "It's a simple, three-ingredient, bang-for-your-buck cocktail that can be easily altered according to your taste."

Kaplan suggested asking the bartender for whiskey recommendations or mixing things up with an Oaxaca old-fashioned, which uses tequila and mezcal instead.

Order a Negroni if you're looking for consistent quality

Corey Phillips, the beverage director at Nina and Rafi, told BI that Negronis are likely familiar to any bartender you sit in front of — and odds are they're going to have all the ingredients.

"In my opinion, a Negroni is a great way to get a consistent, delicious, and sophisticated cocktail," he said.

The cocktail is easy to throw together since it's made by combining equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari.

You can't go wrong with a Tommy's margarita made with quality tequila

Kim Haasarud, a professional bartender and beverage consultant, told BI that simple margaritas with fresh ingredients can't be beaten.

"A Tommy's margarita is a full 2 ounces of tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar," she said. "Call out a good tequila when you order it. It's simple but delicious."

If you're unsure what a good tequila might be, ask your bartender for recommendations.

If you like sweet drinks, a mai tai is a classic choice

Kaplan told BI that mai tais are a great option for people who like their drinks sweet , yet strong.

"This tiki classic is not only delicious but sneaky with its booze," she said. "It may not taste strong, but you're definitely getting your money's worth."

The bar manager added that the orgeat syrup — a sweet addition made with almonds, sugar, and orange-flower water — is what gives the drink a complex and rich flavor.

Old Cubans are an underrated drink that nearly every bar can make

Shawn Soole, a cocktail-book author and the owner of Soole Hospitality Concepts, recommended Audrey Saunders's old Cuban if you're looking to steer away from the classics.

"A mix of rum, lime, mint, and sparkling wine served up, it's a hybrid daiquiri-mojito-royale cocktail that most bars should have all the ingredients for and is always a crowd-pleaser," he told BI.

Soole added that old Cubans are especially refreshing in the summer.

Most restaurants have unique mojitos

Chef Omar Torres, the food and beverage director at Bonsai at Hilton Pensacola Beach, said citrus-based cocktails, like mojitos, are a surefire hit.

"Mojitos are versatile, elegant, pleasant to the palate, and most bars will have a different version of it," he told BI.

Although you can order a specialty mojito to switch things up, the beverage director said options like Moscow mules and French 75s offer similar flavor profiles.

When in doubt, order a drink from the specialty cocktail menu

Haasarud told BI that the trick to getting a high-quality spirit at a lower price is to order a drink from the bar's featured cocktail menu.

"The bar may have worked out a special deal with the distributor or supplier, so you may be getting some liquor that is much more expensive at a lower cost," she said.

She added that bartenders also typically have more training in making the drink, so you're more likely to get an excellent pour.

On the other hand, Long Islands will cost you more for less

Kaplan called Long Islands "the amalgamation of everything terrible in a cocktail" that will "guarantee you the worst hangover of your life."

On top of all that, she said the classic cocktail is overpriced and poorly made at most bars.

Amaretto and whiskey sours can pose a health risk if made incorrectly

Austin Carson, the founder and co-owner of Restaurant Olivia, told BI that he doesn't recommend any drink made with egg whites, like classic amarettos or whiskey sours. He doesn't think it's worth the potential risks of consuming the raw ingredient.

"I'll generally stay away from egg-white drinks," Carson said. "Doing so implies a sanitary wherewithal that I have to trust as well as proper execution."

Many bars and restaurants now make these drinks without egg whites or will accommodate special requests.

Miami Vices are often filled with less wholesome ingredients

Torres said that although he understands the appeal of a Miami Vice, a frozen drink layered with strawberry daiquiri and piña colada. He doesn't think it's a great option for those who want a quality cocktail experience .

"Enjoying a cocktail at a bar or restaurant should be fun, fresh, pleasant to the palate, and good for you," he said. "Unfortunately, there are many bars out there that use syrups and many other chemicals to make their cocktails."

Manhattans should only be ordered at specialty cocktail bars

Kaplan recommended steering clear of vermouth cocktails, like Manhattans, in order to save yourself from drinking spoiled alcohol . The fortified wine doesn't really age well and can go bad.

"If you see an old dusty bottle of vermouth on the back bar, run for the hills," she said.

The bar manager added that ordering the drink at bars or restaurants that are not cocktail-focused is especially risky.

House margaritas are usually made with low-quality ingredients

Haasarud recommended avoiding house margaritas to skip the potential hangover from sickly sweet mixers and bottom-shelf tequila.

"Not all house margaritas are made with fresh lime juice," she said. "Rather it's usually the cheapest version of a margarita made with a sour mix out of the gun and with a cheap tequila."

Don't order an Adonis unless the bar specializes in the cocktail

Carson told BI that, similarly to a Manhattan, an Adonis is made with ingredients that can be spoiled easily, making it a bad choice at dive bars and restaurants that aren't known for their cocktails . The old-school drink is made with sweet vermouth and sherry.

"I'd stay away from cocktails built upon ingredients that oxidize quickly, like sherry and vermouth," he said. "It's sort of a 'don't order seafood at a restaurant that doesn't sell a lot of seafood' bit of advice."

The alcohol in blended cocktails is not the focus of the drink

Montes told BI that you should skip popular poolside blends, like strawberry daiquiris and piña coladas, if you want to truly enjoy the alcohol in your drink and get the most for your money. He added that they're often diluted by whatever sugary mixture the bar is using.

"As perfect as they are by the pool and as beautiful as they look in photos, I would overlook having a blended drink," Montes said.

The bartender recommended ordering the martini version of the drinks instead for a similarly sweet and tropical option.

Is it safe to travel to France? The latest advice

T he French government has raised its terror alert to the highest possible level, “emergency”, following the terror attack in Moscow that left more than 135 people dead.

French prime minister Gabriel Attal said the decision was taken “in light of the Islamic State’s claiming responsibility for the [Moscow] attack and the threats weighing on our country”.

France’s terror threat system has three levels. The highest level is announced if there is a terrorist attack in France or overseas, or if an attack on French soil is considered to be imminent.

France was already on high alert for potential terrorist attacks, with the Paris Olympics and Paralympics due to take place in the capital this summer.

The updated terror alert comes just days before the UK Easter school holidays, when thousands of British holidaymakers will travel across the Channel for a getaway.

What is the Foreign Office advice for France?

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) France advice, which was last updated on February 20, reads: “There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. You should remain vigilant at all times.”

“Methods of attack have included knife attacks, shootings, bombings and vehicle attacks. Be vigilant in public places and follow the advice of local French authorities,” the FCDO adds.

The FCDO lists shopping centres, entertainment establishments, cultural events, public transport and places of worship as settings where “indiscriminate” terrorism attacks could take place.

Check the France FCDO page for the latest advice.

What happened in the Moscow terror attack?

On Friday, terrorists carried out an attack at the Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow, killing at least 137 and injuring 140.

Four men, all of whom are citizens of Tajikistan, have been formally charged with committing a group terrorist attack. The attack has been claimed by the Afghanistan-based Islamic State Khorasan Province (IS-K) group.

On March 7, the United States warned its citizens in Russia that extremists had “imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow” and specifically mentioned concert venues. It advised Americans to avoid large gatherings.

What should I do if I get caught up in a terrorist attack?

Britain’s counter-terrorism police gives advice on what to do in the event of an emergency . This includes to run to a place of safety: “This is better than trying to surrender or negotiate.” To hide: “It is better to hide than confront. Barricade yourself in, turn your phone to silent and use only when it is safe to do so.” And to tell: “Make sure you know the local emergency numbers in the country you are travelling to. For all EU countries call 112.”

Have there been recent terrorist attacks in France?

There have been a number of terrorist attacks in France over the past decade. In January 2015, eight cartoonists, two guests and two police officers were murdered at the offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo . The gunmen identified as belonging to al-Qaeda.

In November that year, in the deadliest terrorist attack in French history, 131 people were killed and 413 were injured in a series of shooting and grenade attacks at the Bataclan music venue, near the Stade de France and at several restaurants and bars across Paris. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks.

In July 2016, 86 people were killed and 434 injured in Nice after a 19-tonne cargo truck was driven into crowds during Bastille Day celebrations on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Again Islamic State claimed responsibility.

What if I want to cancel my trip to France?

If you have booked a package holiday to France and want to cancel your trip for any reason, contact your tour operator and they might offer flexibility with alternative dates.

But bear in mind that, because the Foreign Office has not issued any advice against travel to France, there is no guarantee that you will receive a refund, nor will you be able to claim money back with your travel insurance company.

If you have booked flights and accommodation independently, and wish to cancel your holiday, contact your travel providers as soon as possible to see if you can rearrange your plans. Note, however, that given the circumstances, it is unlikely you will receive a full refund.

Ukraine war latest: Ukraine keeping close eye on Belarus border as troops amass

Russia has launched several air attacks on Ukraine this week, costing Moscow a reported £1.1bn. Meanwhile, Ukraine says it's keeping a close eye on its border with Belarus after a build-up of troops there in recent days.

  • Your questions answered: Strategic consequences for Ukraine if Pokrovsk falls
  • Reporting by Mark Wyatt

We'll be back with more updates and analysis tomorrow, but before we go, here's a recap of the key developments that took place today:

  • Ukrainian shelling in Russia's Belgorod region killed one person and injured others, according to officials;
  • A fighter jet from Belarus attempted to shoot down a Russian drone that flew into the country's airspace this morning;
  • Russia's huge air attacks across Ukraine this week cost Moscow more than £1bn, the UK representative to the UN said;
  • Ukraine said it was keeping a close eye on its border with Belarus after a build-up of troops there in recent days;
  • Ukraine's top commander Oleksandr Syrskyi said fighting in Pokrovsk is "exceptionally tough";
  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would not forgive Russia "for a single destroyed Ukrainian life" as the country marked the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine.

A military court in Moscow has placed Pavel Popov, a former deputy defence minister, in detention on suspicion of fraud in the latest of a string of corruption probes of officials tied to ex-defence minister Sergei Shoigu.

The case against Popov, who has served in his role since 2013, is the third investigation into a senior defence official relating to construction work at Patriot Park - a military theme park near Moscow.

The war-themed tourist attraction near Moscow displays a vast collection of Russian and Soviet weaponry and offers visitors the chance to clamber on tanks and take part in combat simulations.

Investigators said Popov, beginning in 2021, had diverted various building materials from the park to his own country house for installation work.

Popov has been detained until 29 October.

He denies guilt, his lawyer told the RIA state news agency.

Popov joins at least a dozen officials who, since April, have been caught up in the biggest wave of corruption scandals to hit the Russian military and defence establishment in years.

In May, soon after the first arrests, Vladimir Putin unexpectedly removed Mr Shoigu as defence minister and replaced him with Andrei Belousov in what was widely seen as a move to ensure tighter management of Russia's vast defence budget.

Russian political commentators said the investigation into Popov was clearly linked to a broader anti-graft crackdown undertaken by Belousov against those with ties to Mr Shoigu.

A Ukrainian F-16 fighter jet was destroyed in a crash on Monday, a US defence official has said.

According to the official, the cause has not yet been determined - pilot error or mechanical failure.

It comes after Russia staged a missile and drone attack on Ukraine on Monday.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that F-16 jets were used to repel the attack on Monday and showed good results.

He had announced earlier this month that Ukraine had started flying F-16s for operations within the country, confirming the long-awaited arrival of the US-made fighter jets which Ukraine has been pushing for since the start of the war.

Four nuclear power units at two different power plants in Ukraine were disconnected from the grid during the Russian attack on Monday, Ukraine's presidential office head, Andriy Yermak, reports.

In a statement on Telegram , Mr Yermak said power units at Rivne NPP, in northwest Ukraine, and South Ukrainian NPP in the south, had been disconnected.

What happened on Monday?

Russian forces unleashed 236 drones and missiles in a massive attack on Ukraine.

Seven people were killed and 15 regions were struck, with explosions heard in the capital, Kyiv.

Ukraine said hypersonic missiles were used in the assault.

Fighting in Pokrovsk is "exceptionally tough", Ukraine's top commander Oleksandr Syrskyi has said.

Mr Syrskyi, who has spent several days on the eastern front, also said that Russia was throwing everything it could into its assaults, trying to break through Ukrainian defences.

"Fighting is exceptionally tough," he said, adding that Ukraine had to constantly use unorthodox methods to strengthen its positions.

For context : Russia's army is closing in on Pokrovsk, a critical logistics hub for the Ukrainian defence in the area.

The region, which had a pre-war population of about 60,000, is one of Ukraine's main defensive strongholds.

Its capture would compromise Ukraine's defensive abilities and supply routes and would bring Russia closer to its stated aim of capturing the entire Donetsk region.

Ukraine says it's keeping a close eye on its border with Belarus after a build-up of troops there in recent days.

Kyiv's foreign ministry accused Minsk last week of concentrating a "significant number of personnel" in the Gomel region near Ukraine's northern border "under the guise of exercises".

It swiftly warned Belarusian officials not to make "tragic mistakes under Moscow's pressure" and withdraw its forces.

The Institute for the Study of War said Belarus's troop deployment was likely intended to divert Ukrainian soldiers from other fronts.

It also assessed that Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko was "extremely unlikely to risk combat with Ukraine that could weaken his regime".

Speaking on television today, a spokesperson for Ukraine's border guard service said it had detected no immediate threats on the border, but that Ukrainian troops were keeping it constantly monitored.

"This is tens of kilometres from our border, at different points – different distances," said Andriy Demchenko.

"What is happening on the territory of Belarus is actively monitored by intelligence units, the ministry of defence and the state border service in order to understand how the situation is changing, how threatening it can be for Ukraine.

"So that all components of our defence forces, which strengthen this direction, have the opportunity to react in time to any actions."

Ukraine is calling on the civilian population in its eastern city of Pokrovsk to evacuate as Russian troops draw closer to its outskirts.

Readers have been sending in their questions to our senior correspondents and military experts for their take on what could happen next.

Today, Malcolm asks:

How serious is the situation in Pokrovsk? If the city falls to Russian forces, what are the strategic consequences for Ukraine?

Military analyst Sean Bell says...

It is very difficult to provide clarity over the tactical progress of the war given the relative paucity of detailed information about progress, challenges and opportunities.

However, it appears likely that Vladimir Putin's near-term objective of his "special military operation" is to secure Crimea, the Donbas and the land bridge between the two areas.

This summer, Russia's main effort appears to have been securing the final component of the Donbas, and despite the much-publicised casualty rate being suffered by Moscow's forces - more than 1,000 casualties a day - Russia continues to make slow but steady progress.

Pokrovsk is a strategically important logistics and transport hub for Ukrainian forces in the region, and Russian forces are now reported to be only six miles away from the town, leading the Ukrainians to evacuate the civilian population.

The Russian president knows that it is very difficult to maintain momentum during the winter months, so he has perhaps 10 to 12 weeks available to achieve his objectives before the winter weather settles in.

If Russian forces can seize Pokrovsk before the winter, it is possible that Mr Putin will indicate he is ready to negotiate an end to the conflict.

Depending on the outcome of the forthcoming US presidential elections, that raises the prospect of Mr Putin being rewarded for his brutal invasion of Ukraine, which would have profound implications for global security.

Ukraine's invasion of Russia's Kursk region will soon enter its fourth week, with around 500 square miles of territory captured so far, according to the head of Kyiv's military.

Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Tuesday that around 100 settlements, including the town of Sudzha, were now under Ukraine's control.

In one of his evening addresses this week, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said troops were still expanding their territory in the region.

Here, we look at some key images from the start of the invasion into Kursk.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine will not forgive Russia "for a single destroyed Ukrainian life" as the country marks the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine.

The holiday marks the 10th anniversary of the battle of Ilovaisk, where hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers were killed by Russian troops as they began to withdraw from the encircled town.

"This was a planned, cynical Russian crime that Ukraine will never forget and will not leave unpunished," Mr Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel.

"Today, Ukraine honours the memory of all its defenders. All those who fought for our state, for Ukrainian independence and sacrificed the most precious thing – their lives.

"And we will not forgive Russia for a single destroyed Ukrainian life."

Ukraine was forced to disconnect several nuclear power units from the grid on Monday after Russia's widespread drone and missile attacks on the country.

Kyiv's mission to the International Atomic Energy Agency has said the attack was intended to paralyse the operation of the power generation facilities of Ukraine.

It added that the attacks posed a significant risk to the stable operation of nuclear facilities.

As a result of the attack, three out of four power units of the Rivne nuclear power plant were disconnected from the grid, it said.

Another nuclear power plant, the South Ukrainian, was also forced to decrease its output "due to fluctuations in the national power grid".

Testimonials

Love this company! I have been enjoying day trips with Enjoy The Journey for several years now and just returned from a five day bus tour to Cannon Beach, Oregon. I enjoyed it immensely.

We took the trip to Haida Gwaii and it was exceptional! It had been our wish to go to this great part of British Columbia and going with Enjoy The Journey was a wonderful experience.

Linda and Eelko

Highly recommended!  Just returned from the 3-day Nature's Best Cultural Tour, which took us through Kamloops to Quaaout Lodge and Spa near Chase BC. Our guide and driver did a fabulous job from start to finish and took very good care of everyone.

A very good small personable company, who are highly customer-orientated. My wife and i had a day trip to salt spring island farmers market on Saturday 28th July. We like small outfits, and give thisone VERY high marks. I'd choose them again - and again.

Thanks to the kindness and excellent organizational skills of our tour manager we had an extraordinarily enjoyable holiday to Haida Gwaii. Our driver was extremely competent and helpful to our group of enthusiastic travellers. A fabulous experience! Thank you Enjoy The Journey!!

5 Easy Steps to Actually Enjoy Your Vacation

Stop stressing, and start making the most out of your time off.

enjoy tours and travels

You'd think planning and going on a vacation would be a dream. But, for a surprising number of people, taking time off of work, family, and daily responsibilities can be a stressful nightmare.

In 2015, Healthline surveyed more than 2,000 working adults and found that 62 percent of respondents had "very" or "somewhat" elevated levels of stress during their winter vacations. But stress is the last thing that should be holding us back from taking time off. Here are five ways to keep stress at bay when planning, taking, and returning from a vacation — so you can enjoy your hard-earned getaway.

Don't be so hard on yourself, to begin with.

"If you're someone who works, you're checking your emails, you're getting text messages, maybe you're going onto social media, you're digesting a lot of information, so it's no wonder that we're going to have a hard time settling down from that and quieting our mind on vacation," Dr. Megan Jones Bell, clinical psychologist and former chief science officer at meditation and mindfulness app Headspace , told Travel + Leisure . "It's a lot to expect that you just go flip a switch."

To help combat the stress of planning travel, try to unpack what is actually making you stressed in the first place. Is it the idea of unplugging that has you worried? Then maybe book a vacation where you know there will be reliable Wi-Fi . Are you stressed about feeling like you have to check in with work but don't really want to? Try an internet-free vacation instead. Worried you can't plan the ultimate trip? Hire these A-list travel agents to do it for you. No matter the source of your stress, there is always a way to help ease it.

Start the relaxation process before you leave.

According to Bell, you should begin the relaxation process before you even leave for the airport. This, Bell explained, can be done by building in rituals and routines you can perform before, during, and after a trip "that help anchor you and act as a buffer to the stress that's going to try to creep back in."

For Bell, this entails settling in for a Headspace meditation routine, which means she begins a new 10-minute daily practice several days before leaving for an excursion. If you're new to meditation, you can always sign up for the app (free trials are available for newcomers) and work your way up minute by minute each day until you find a comfortable length.

For others, those rituals could also mean journaling what you hope to gain from your vacation or creating a personalized itinerary so you can ensure you get to see everything you want to while away. Just make sure you make your routine your own.

Make sure all your vacation goals are achievable.

Making plans for your vacation is a great idea, but stuffing your days with too many to-dos can be a real buzzkill. In fact, multiple studies have proven that meticulously planning your leisure time can seriously ruin your fun. And it's not the activity, but rather the act of assigning a time to an activity that will do you in.

To combat this itinerary-induced stress, Bell suggested starting each morning of your trip by setting an intention. Taking just a few minutes to quiet your mind and think about what you'd like to accomplish that day will help mitigate any stress you may feel later on.

And before your departure, try creating a looser itinerary for your journey. Create a list of all the "must-see" places and another of "would like to see." This way you can prioritize your time without feeling constrained by the clock.

Use vacation time to kickstart healthy new routines.

Instead of thinking of vacation as a few days away from your real life, think of it as a few days away to help improve your everyday.

"Vacation is a really great time to initiate healthy habits that you just don't have the time or energy to start during your day-to-day life," Bell said, noting that you're much more likely to pull healthy routines back into your life if you can start them in a happy, conducive environment.

To do this, look into a vacation that is tailor-made for your goals, such as a yoga retreat , a culinary journey to improve your kitchen skills, or even an all-around wellness getaway to renew your mind, body, and soul. Or, as Bell suggested, use it as a great time to — you guessed it — start a meditation practice, which has some seriously impressive, scientifically-backed health benefits .

Keep up your new habits for at least 10 days after you return.

According to Bell, it takes just 10 days to form a new habit, meaning if you start a new one on your vacation you should bring it home with you to reap all the rewards.

"Research at Headspace has shown that the use of the app for just 10 days can reduce stress," Bell said. "So that's where I'd say before your vacation, if you start meditating and you can do just 10 minutes a day during it, it's gonna help reduce your vulnerability to stress."

But really, no matter what new habits you form or how relaxed you were on vacation, re-entering your normal life can get you down. To combat the post-vacation blues, make sure to build in an adjustment day to settle in, decorate your home with your new souvenirs, and stay in the vacation mindset as long as you can. Follow these steps and you'll be a master at beating vacation stress in no time.

Now, there's only one thing left to do: Plan your next stress-free adventure .

Ok, but I wouldn't use again

We used EnjoyTravel after a recommendation from someone who has used them for years with no problems. However, we wouldn't use them again. We booked a long way in advance - giving the times we would be collecting the car - so were really concerned when we went to print off the voucher that the office would be closed when we arrived. It actually turned out that office had closed so if we had gone there, a good distance from the train station, we would have wasted our time. EnjoyTravel, as a middleman, had no knowledge of this, did not notify us & it was complete chance we found out - if we'd been on an earlier train we'd never have checked. Natalie was helpful, within the constraints placed on her, but it was a slow solution. Initially, couldn't get the direct contact details, so I could sort it out myself, & that was frustrating. In the end I did get the contact details and, thank goodness, because our travel was hit by the Olympic sabotage & we were in danger of arriving after the office closed. Having got the direct details I could sort it from there but it has put me off using a middleman ever again. I see the advantage, if you are booking abroad and don't speak the language, but that wouldn't have helped in end, because I ended up emailing Celyana at the French office from the train with updates etc & that just wouldn't have been possible through Enjoy.

Scam agency

Scam agency. Read the thousands of 1-star Google Maps reviews about it. I booked a car rental through EnjoyTravel.com on June 24th, 2022, for a one-day rental on June 27th, 2022, for approximately 42€. On the day of the rental, the rental company informed me by phone that it only accepted to deliver the car at a hotel, not an AirBnb, and that the delivery cost was 60€. This was not written on the contract sent in the email from EnjoyTravel.com at all. Of course I had to cancel the booking, and tried to contact EnjoyTravel.com as well to ask for refund. But both the phone numbers they provide (which were very difficult to find in the email they sent, and which were only UK phone numbers) actually don't exist anymore. I also contacted them by email, with no answer. I also tried a chat, where I was told that I needed to contact them by email, to which I had no answer as well. In the email they sent, there is no link to modify, cancel or even view the booking. 4 days later, I still didn't have any answer, didn't get refunded, nor had any answer from them. It's quite clear this company is doing scam on purpose, hiding the contract agreements, and avoiding to be contacted in any way.

Scam, no response to refund request. We booked a rental car with enjoy travel. Quite the mistake as we did not get the car from the rental agency. Even though we had several debit and credit cards available, none of them seemed good enough for the car rental company. We then had to book another car with another car rental company. Considering it was high season that turned out to be pretty expensive. I then requested a refund from enjoy which was simply ignored. Use a reputable company instead. ENJ-11765051

I was concerned that Toll meter may not be fitted to the car, I was also concerned because the small print requested that my credit card state my name in full and was also concerned that although I had given my age as 80 yrs, it was not stated on the agreement that there would be no surcharge. Nathalie was very helpful indeed and immediately email the particular rental company for reassurance which quickly followed. Could to have been more efficient.

Just dealt with a young lady called Srabana on the online chat who was wonderfully efficient, she was able to save me a significant amount of money by changing an existing booking which took a matter of minutes, we continue to book with Enjoy every year and cant recommend them enough, 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Brilliant service.

Easy to book

Easy to book, however a credit card was required for our booking at collection of the car which could have been clearer at the time of the booking. We cancelled easily and got a full refund, satisfied with the service

Great company

The 1st time I rented a car and all was perfect. The 2nd time I had to make a change in the reservation and Nathalie did it for me in 3 minutes. Definetely reccommended!

My experience with Enjoy is 1st class

My experience with Enjoy is 1st class, I have been using this company for many years and will never use anybody else, the staff through out the years have been very friendly and always helpful to me. I spoke with Nathalie on my recent bookings and she has been so helpful and accommodating. I highly recommend Enjoy Travel.

SCAM and refuse to refund (Against their policies)

I booked a car last week which is due in a month from now.. Yesterday I had to cancel it for some emergencies, and it was fully paid in advance but I didn't get any refund confirmation. I tried to reach their chat support with no luck, and I sent an email and they eventually responded with this "We are sorry but cancelled bookings can no longer be refunded"!!!! Is that some kind of scam?? Their policies mentions that fully paid bookings are fully refundable up to 48 hours before pick up!

I booked car hire for upcoming holiday and twice got an error message saying my booking hadn't gone through. Upon checking my email found that both bookings had gone through. Messaged the company and Srabana fixed the problem quickly. Great service after the initial glitch
