Beyoncé unveiled a full trailer Sunday evening for a forthcoming concert film based on her blockbuster 2023 Renaissance World Tour .

The film’s formal title is “Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce ,” and the singer has opened ticket pre-sales at theater chains including AMC, Regal and Cinemark. It will hit U.S. theaters on Dec. 1.

“When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” Beyoncé purrs in the trailer over a montage of images from the road. “My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free, and no one is judged.”

As Variety reported exclusively on Saturday, Beyoncé closed a deal to distribute the new concert film directly with exhibition giant AMC Theatres , and she revealed more exhibition chains in her formal announcement.

An auction for the hybrid project was teased to the major studios and streamers in mid-September, sources told Variety in an earlier report. Beyoncé chose an unconventional deal template forged by AMC and Taylor Swift in August. Swift’s film was self-financed and she will see well over 50% of box office grosses in the arrangement, reports said. Beyoncé will get the same deal, said Variety’ s sources.

Insiders said the film will have an ambitious scope — incorporating highlights from the full 2023 run of the Renaissance World Tour, the long-awaited videos shot for the visual album “Renaissance” and a docu-style account of recording the album and conceiving the tour.

Beyoncé fans who are eagerly anticipating a unique look at her Renaissance World Tour are in for a treat.

On Thursday, the 42-year-old singer unveiled a new trailer for Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé  on CBS Mornings   and Instagram, which provides a sneak peek into the film, featuring snippets from various concerts, with Beyoncé herself declaring, "You are the visuals, baby."

The concert documentary, as outlined in its press release , will narrate the journey of Beyoncé's latest tour—from its conceptualization to the grand finale in Kansas City, Missouri. It aims to spotlight the artist's dedication, hard work, hands-on involvement in all production aspects, creative prowess, and the overarching purpose of crafting her legacy while mastering her craft.

Drawing comparisons to Beyoncé's well-received 2019 concert film, Homecoming , which premiered on Netflix, Renaissance is anticipated to share similar elements.

In a departure from the traditional Hollywood studio distribution route, AMC Theatres, following a similar strategy used for Taylor Swift's concert film, The Eras Tour , will directly distribute both projects.

Despite high expectations for box office success, Variety reports that Beyonce’s film is not eligible for consideration in the Academy Awards' documentary feature or technical categories. This is due to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' current guidelines, which specify that a documentary film must be theatrically released and creatively engage with subjects such as culture, art, history, society, science, economics, or other nonfictional topics.

The outlet also notes that the Renaissance doc is expected to gross nearly $560 million in ticket sales.

See the trailer for Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé below . Pre-sale tickets are on sale now .

Fans have long speculated that Beyoncé would helm a theatrical release similar to Homecoming , especially as she often switches up the visuals of her shows and features guest appearances from other artists.

The Houston native teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion to bring fans the first-ever performance of their GRAMMY-winning single , "Savage (Remix)," during the Renaissance World Tour stop in her hometown of Houston, Texas. And in addition to the H-Town Hottie, the "Crazy In Love" songstress had support onstage from her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

Before that, the "Break My Soul" singer celebrated her 42nd birthday with a three-night run at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium over the long Labor Day weekend. While the Saturday and Sunday concerts were packed, the show on Sept. 4 -- Beyoncé's 42nd birthday -- was especially star-studded .

From the stage, Diana Ross led the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to the music legend, while Kendrick Lamar made a surprise appearance to perform the "America Has a Problem" remix.

And in the crowd, Beyoncé's performance drew the likes of the Kardashian-Jenners, Lizzo , Adele , Zendaya , Tom Holland , Chris Rock , Katy Perry , Kate Hudson , and Vanessa Bryant , as well as Kelly Rowland , who was on hand to lend her support to her Destiny's Child pal for all three performances.

Beyoncé unveils first trailer for "Renaissance" movie, opening this December in theaters

By Emily Mae Czachor

October 2, 2023 / 3:45 PM EDT / CBS News

The  Renaissance World Tour  may have wrapped on Sunday night, but fans who missed Beyoncé's live concert during its sensational 39-city performance circuit will have another opportunity to experience the show come December, when "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé" premieres in movie theaters across the United States.

"Be careful what you ask for, 'cause I just might comply. Tickets on sale now, in theaters 12.01," Beyoncé wrote on Instagram Sunday night, pulling lyrics from "All Up In Your Mind," one of the tracks off of the artist's "Renaissance" record.

Her post accompanied a trailer for the upcoming film that teases clips from her performances along the world tour, as well as backstage moments and cameo appearances by her husband Jay-Z and their three children. The couple's oldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, performed on the Renaissance tour as a dancer.

"When I am performing, I am nothing but free," Beyoncé's voiceover says in the trailer. "My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free, and no one is judged."

When does the film launch and how can I get tickets?

The Renaissance film opens on Dec. 1 in major cinemas, with tickets already on sale at AMC, Fandango, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark leading up to the big debut. AMC Theatres Distribution, which is handling the Renaissance film's global release, called it a "theatrical concert experience" in a statement and said the movie will be shown at thousands of movie theaters, with additional locations outside the U.S. set to be announced at a later date.

The film will air Thursday through Sunday for at least four weeks after its premiere, AMC said in its statement, which will show an IMAX version of the Renaissance movie in addition to the regular format.

"RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ accentuates the journey of RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR, from its inception to the opening in Stockholm, Sweden, to the finale in Kansas City, Missouri," reads a description for the film on YouTube. "It is about Beyoncé's intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft. Received with extraordinary acclaim, Beyoncé's RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR created a sanctuary for freedom, and shared joy, for more than 2.7 million fans."

Beyoncé's Renaissance tour helped define the summer's pop cultural zeitgeist while generating so much in ticket sales that experts say it boosted local economies . Some estimates suggest the tour brought in a total of $2 billion .

The Renaissance movie announcement came on the heels of Beyoncé's final show on the live tour, and follows the news last month that Taylor Swift's comparably sensational, and profit-driving, Eras world tour would see its own theatrical run in U.S. cinemas, starting Oct. 13.

Beyoncé's past concert films include  2013's "Life Is but a Dream" and 2016's "Lemonade," released by HBO, as well as the 2019 Netflix documentary "Homecoming," which chronicled her headlining show at Coachella the previous year.

Beyoncé reveals more photos of her, Jay-Z from the ‘Renaissance’ L.A. film premiere

Beyoncé is sharing more images of the sleek, silver dress and eye-catching platinum hairstyle she sported to the premiere of the “Renaissance” concert film on Nov. 25.

The “Cuff It” singer wowed onlookers at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles by wearing a body-hugging silver strapless gown that she accessorized with a pair of long silver gloves and matching silver open-toed heels.

On Nov. 30, Beyoncé posted a collection of behind-the-scenes photos from the premiere on Instagram . One of the pics showed her embracing her Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland, who stunned in her own silver gown.

In another pic, the Grammy winner and her husband, rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, were photographed holding popcorn buckets while sitting in a theater.

Beyonce

The "99 Problems" rapper has long been one of his wife's biggest musical champions, revealing earlier this year that he believed her "Renaissance" album was a culture changer.

At the "Renaissance" concert film premiere, which featured a dress code of “cozy opulence," Beyoncé made headlines for her head-to-toe metallic ensemble.

The singer forewent any jewelry except for a pair of silver statement earrings that stood out from her long, blond hair.

She kept her makeup simple with a metallic smoky eye and a nude lip.

Beyoncé' didn't walk the chrome carpet with her star-studded crowd, but snuck in to the premiere with her family before the film kicked off.

The 42-year-old singer attended the premiere with Jay-Z and the couple’s daughters Blue Ivy, 11, and Rumi, 6, The family arrived at the theater as the lights dimmed, and she watched the movie with the rest of the crowd.

The chrome carpet was a celebrity hotspot on Saturday night, with attendees including the former members of Destiny’s Child , Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett.

The celebrity guest list also included Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, Tyler Perry, Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Gabrielle Union, Halle Bailey, Chloe Bailey, Janelle Monáe, and more.

The “Renaissance” concert film has been highly anticipated by fans since the singer confirmed news of the project back in October.

After she wrapped the last show of her “Renaissance World Tour,” Beyoncé dropped a trailer for fans on Oct. 2, capturing behind-the-scenes moments from her record-breaking tour spliced between clips of her performance and fan reactions to the singer on stage.

According to a press release , the film “accentuates the journey” of the “Renaissance World Tour,” which kicked off May 10 in Sweden and ended Oct. 1 in Missouri.

”It is about Beyoncé's intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft,” the press release continued.

More than a month after the initial trailer dropped, Beyoncé shared an exclusive trailer during a special appearance on the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The trailer included more clips of the singer, in addition to footage of her performances set to the song “Summer Renaissance.”

The “Renaissance” concert film comes after Beyoncé’s 2019 Netflix movie “Homecoming,” which documented her historic performance at Coachella in 2018, including the intense preparation that led up to the event. She also premiered her visual album “Black is King” on Disney+ in 2020 to accompany the soundtrack to “The Lion King: The Gift.”

Beyoncé played three shows at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium , including a star-studded birthday show on Sept. 4.

“We’ve known this since Coachella 2018, but she is simply the best live performer working today,” The Times’ August Brown wrote about her opening night in Los Angeles.

Have you seen it yet?

Do you have your tickets to the Beyoncé movie yet? If not, you better move fast to buy tickets. Beyoncé just released a new trailer for “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” and something tells us these will be sold-out shows at your local theater.

The mesmerizing new trailer gives us a glimpse into her global Renaissance tour. The excitement of the crowds is palpable as fans soak in Beyoncé’s presence, and we get to see several of Beyoncé’s concert outfits. In the narration of the trailer, Beyoncé talks about struggling in a “male-dominated” world and how she had to find a balance between motherhood and being on stage. And this new trailer seems to show an entirely new collection of images from the movie that we didn’t see in the film’s first trailer , which dropped in October.

Watch the new “Renaissance” trailer from Beyoncé’s YouTube channel:

“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” comes out on Dec. 1. It’s being distributed by AMC Theatres and will show in regular, Dolby Cinema and IMAX formats Thursdays-Sundays for at least four weeks. A ticket will cost at least $22.

Ticket sales are doing very well. First-day presale tickets were estimated at between $6 million and $7 million, Deadline reports . This is a promising start for a movie being released during a normally sleepy time in theaters.

According to a synopsis on the film’s website , the concert film/documentary will follow Beyoncé throughout her Renaissance World Tour. Beginning in Stockholm, Sweden, and ending in Kansas City, Missouri, the tour had 56 stops and made over $579 million.

This is the fifth film that has been produced by Beyoncé’s entertainment company, Parkwood Entertainment.  Founded by the singer in 2010, the film company also produced 2008’s “Cadillac Records,” 2009’s “Obsessed,” 2019’s “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” and 2020’s “Black is King.”

Parkwood is responsible for Beyoncé’s many television specials, like “Lemonade” and “Homecoming” and also produces her tours.

Daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay-Z will make appearances in the movie, as they are shown briefly in the first trailer. Blue Ivy performed on Renaissance stops in Dubai, Paris and other cities. Her grandmother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, was on hand to watch the Paris show, and she took to social media to share her awe at the 11-year-old’s talent.

“Last night I saw my beautiful grandbaby (11) dance in the front of almost 70 thousand people !” Knowles wrote back in June at @mstinaknowles . “She killed it and was as cool as a cucumber! Blue Ivy Carter No Fear.”

If you weren’t lucky enough to see Blue and Beyoncé in person (or even if you were!), make sure to buy your “Renaissance” movie tickets before they sell out.

Beyoncé's tour paid $100,000 to keep trains running after lightning threat at DC show

beyonce tour trailer

Beyoncé's tour paid $100,000 to keep the train stations open an extra hour after her Renaissance World Tour concert at Washington, D.C.’s FedEx Field was delayed because of bad weather, officials said.

“The additional hour will be funded by the tour to cover the $100,000 cost to run more trains, keep all 98 stations open for customers to exit and other operational expenses,” the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said in a news release Sunday.

The transit authority said it had announced a 30-minute extension on trains after the weather delay to “ensure customers could get home after the concert.” Shortly after, the tour paid for another hour to extend the last train time to 90 minutes after the normal schedule.

Beyoncé will perform at 23 stadiums for her U.S. tour , which started July 12 in Philadelphia. She performed for more than one million fans on her opening run overseas.

Fans had to shelter in place due to lightning

After doors opened to Beyoncé's D.C. show, local authorities and the venue had fans shelter in place because of lightning in the area, tour representatives said. The show started after authorities said it was safe to lift the precaution.

Beyoncé is set to perform in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday.

Her U.S. tour wraps up in Kansas City, Missouri on Oct. 1.
