See behind-the-scenes moments from Beyoncé’s tour in new ‘Renaissance’ film trailer

Queen Bey made a special appearance during the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Beyoncé herself wished her fans a happy Thanksgiving on Nov. 23 before sharing an exclusive trailer for “Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé,” the highly-anticipated film based on her iconic “Renaissance World Tour.”

"Hey it's Beyoncé, wishing you and your family a happy Thanksgiving and I'm so honored to share with you the first look at the new 'Renaissance' film trailer," she said.

The clip showed behind-the-scenes footage, as well as video from her performances, set to her song "Summer Renaissance."

"We are creating our own world, this is my reward. No one can take that away from me," Beyoncé said in the voiceover.

“Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé,” which is set to be released Dec. 1, takes fans behind the scenes of Bey's globetrotting tour. According to a press release about the film, the project is expected to "accentuate the journey of ‘Renaissance World Tour,’ from its inception to the opening show in Stockholm, Sweden, to the grand finale in Kansas City, Missouri.”

“It is about Beyoncé’s intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft,” the announcement reads.

Here's everything we know about the film.

The "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" singer previously dropped a trailer for the movie on Oct. 2 teasing what's in store in the film.

"When I am performing, I am nothing but free," she says over clips of her prepping backstage. "The goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged."

The singer released another trailer on Nov. 9, which captured some of the on stage and behind-the-scenes moments of the global tour in the nearly two-minute clip.

“I close my eyes and travel through realms of space and time. Reality holds no power or control of my state of mind. Assembly line frequency as I tap my MPC,” she said, before sharing a poignant message with fans.

“In this world that is very male dominated, I’ve had to be really tough to balance motherhood and being on the stage,” she said. “It just reminds me of who I really am.”

How to get tickets?

Fans can buy tickets now at BeyonceFilm.com, amctheatres.com and Fandango.com, as well as at Cinemark, Regal, Cinepolis and Cineplex. Tickets in the U.S. start at $22.

Beyoncé teased the news right before her last "Renaissance World Tour" show in the U.S.

Her production and entertainment company, Parkwood Entertainment, had teased the announcement on Instagram Oct. 1. A mysterious 14-hour countdown reminder was uploaded to the account’s Instagram story, building anticipation as Beyoncé finished her last show on the U.S. leg of her “Renaissance World Tour” the same day in Kansas City, Missouri.

Beyoncé RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR - London

Then, in the early hours of the morning on Oct. 2, the news of the 42-year-old music superstar's movie was shared with her fans, while noting the massive success of her tour.

"Received with extraordinary acclaim by International and US media alike, Beyoncé’s outstanding performance during 'Renaissance World Tour' created a sanctuary for freedom, acceptance, and shared joy," the statement read.

Multiple outlets reported that the “Cuff It” singer was in talks to bring her “Renaissance World Tour” to the big screen before she officially confirmed the news. The film is possibly the long-awaited “Renaissance” visuals that fans have been requesting since Beyoncé released the Grammy-winning album in July 2022.

It also marks the first time Beyoncé is releasing a concert film in theaters. She previously partnered with Netflix in 2019 for her movie “Homecoming,” which documented her historic performance at the 2018 Coachella music festival.

A year later, her musical “Black Is King” premiered on Disney+ as a visual companion to the soundtrack “The Lion King: The Gift.” She directed, co-wrote and executive produced the movie.

The “Renaissance World Tour” began in May in Stockholm, Sweden , and included stops in Paris, London and Barcelona before arriving in the U.S. in July. The music icon wowed audiences every night with her flawless vocals and extravagant chrome stage outfits.

Daughter Blue Ivy Carter, 11, whom Beyoncé shares with husband Jay-Z, also joined her mom on stage for a few songs and nailed her choreography .

What's been said about the film following the LA premiere

On Saturday, Nov. 25, TODAY Editorial Director Arianna Davis walked the “chrome carpet” in Los Angeles to capture a behind-the-scenes look at the premiere of  “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.” She gave her review in an essay for TODAY.com.

“Ultimately, the ‘Renaissance’ tour film feels like a gift,” she writes. “During both the tour and also in the movie, Beyoncé emphasizes that she wanted this album and its ensuing world tour to offer a safe space for all kinds of people to feel liberated.”

As someone who attended one of Beyoncé’s live shows on her “Renaissance World Tour,” Arianna writes that the film gives fans the “opportunity to relive it all over again.”

“(Beyoncé) opens up like never before on the toll performing has taken on her body, revealing she had surgery on her knee that required intense rehabilitation just one month before her first show. ‘I’m not a machine,’ she reiterates several times, a necessary reminder that while she makes everything  look  effortless, the reality is far from it,” Arianna writes.

Variety’s Steven J. Horowitz called the film “dazzling,” complete with “slick performances” and moments that “lift the curtain on what inspired both the album and tour.”

“Written, produced, and directed by Beyoncé herself, the two-and-a-half-hour movie revisits the meticulous show that she says took four years to create, highlighting what the public saw in real-time and on social media (i.e. the heavy choreography, the surgical-cut vocal runs), but also the hesitations and self-doubt she faced while assembling it,” he wrote.

Horowitz continued, “Throughout ‘Renaissance,’ as ever, Beyoncé is in complete control of her narrative — that impression of flawlessness doesn’t happen by itself, and despite the film’s intimacy, we never truly get a glimpse behind the curtain. It’s satiating enough — there are tears, laughter and reflections — and delivers morsels of what it takes to be one of the biggest stars in music. It’s satisfying without being indulgent, but most of all, it’s a monument to Beyoncé’s status as one of pop’s most enduring figures, and everything it takes to get there.”

Tickets went on sale Sunday.

Beyoncé previously released a concert doc via Netflix. That project, Homecoming , documented her 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival performance.

After releasing her album in July 2022, Beyoncé kicked off her Renaissance World Tour on May 10 in Stockholm. She’s hit major cities around the world and played for millions of people, including celebrities like Pedro Pascal, Issa Rae, Gabrielle Union, Kelly Rowland and Tracee Ellis Ross, among many others. So far, the Renaissance World Tour has grossed $461.3 million, according to Billboard , becoming the highest-grossing tour of all time in the BoxScore archives.

The news of the concert film comes after Taylor Swift has also set The Eras Tour doc with AMC. In addition to North America, it was revealed the Eras film will also hit cinemas in more than 100 countries timed to its Oct. 13 domestic launch. Early North American box office tracking data for The Eras Tour suggests the movie will open to a massive $75 million, with some more bullish analysts believing the opening weekend numbers could cross $100 million with an upper ceiling of $125 million.

Beyoncé Drops Striking New Trailer for the 'Renaissance' Concert Film: 'The Renaissance Is Not Over'

'Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé' arrives in theaters worldwide on Dec. 1

beyonce tour trailer

BeyHive, it’s time to get in formation.

On Thursday, Beyoncé released the worldwide trailer for her upcoming concert film Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé , several weeks out from its Dec. 1 release date. After dropping a teaser featuring behind-the-scenes footage and a voiceover when she announced the project , the new visual offers fans a preview of some of the live footage in the highly anticipated film.

The clip teasing the theatrical version of the pop superstar’s acclaimed Renaissance World Tour opens to her silhouette before gracing an audience of thousands. “I close my eyes and travel through realms of space and time,” Queen Bey, 42, says in a voice over. “Reality holds no power or control of my state of mind on my voyage to find a source to charge my inner being. Assembly line frequency as I tap my MPC.”

As vulnerable backstage clips — including shots with her 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy and husband JAY-Z — are interspersed with shots of her on stage, Beyoncé opens up about her identity and the challenges that she’s faced. She says, “In this world that is very male-dominated, I’ve had to be really tough. To balance motherhood and being on this stage, it just reminds me of who I really am.”

The minute-and-a-half-long teaser then bursts into glimpses of the Grammy winner’s record-breaking stage show, including brief looks at the spectacular wardrobe and choreography while audio of her hit “Break My Soul” plays.

“You are the visual baby. It’s a new birth. I hope you feel liberated or the renaissance is not over,” the “America Has a Problem” singer says as the visual concludes.

In the caption for the trailer, the official synopsis says the concert film “accentuates the journey of RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR, from its inception, to the opening in Stockholm, Sweden, to the finale in Kansas City, Missouri.”

“It is about Beyoncé’s intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft,” the description continues. “Received with extraordinary acclaim, Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR created a sanctuary for freedom, and shared joy, for more than 2.7 million fans.”

The hitmaker announced Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé after the final stop of her tour in Kansas City, Missouri on Oct. 1 by releasing the first trailer online.

The Big Picture

  • Beyoncé's concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé i s set to release on December 1, 2023, and is expected to earn $20 million on opening weekend, according to Forbes.
  • The film follows Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour, her first solo tour in seven years, which generated approximately $580 million in concert ticket sales and attracted over 2.7 million attendees.
  • Like Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Film, Beyoncé will reportedly earn 50% of the film's grossing from its earnings. This is not Beyoncé's first concert film, as her previous film, Homecoming , is available to stream on Netflix.

Beyoncé is all set to transcend through space and time on the silver screen for her concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé . After unveiling a poster last month in October, and a trailer before it, a fresh new trailer has been released. The film is being produced by her own production company Parkwood Entertainment and distributed by Variance Films and Trafalgar Releasing, in association with AMC Theaters — the same entity that Taylor Swift had a contract with for her Eras Film Tour .

The new trailer kicks off with some iconic lines that Beyoncé has famously used to set the tone for her performances. In her words:

"I close my eyes and travel through realms of space and time. Reality holds no power or control of my state of mind on my voyage to find the source of my inner being. In this world that is male-dominated, I’ve had to be really tough. To balance motherhood when being on the stage. It just reminds me of who I really am."

How Much Did Beyoncé Earn From the Renaissance Tour?

The “Renaissance World Tour” that the concert film follows was her first solo tour after about seven years and it raked in approximately $580 million in concert tickets. The tour started back on May 10, 2023, and ended on October 1, 2023. Beyoncé played a total of 56 shows within five months and over 2.7 million people attended her shows.

The first-day pre-sales of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé , which is coming to cinemas on December 1, 2023, managed to rake in $6 million . To give you an idea of where that stands — the first-day sales for Avatar: The Way of Water were $5.5 million and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 were $6 million. The film is projected to touch a global bow of $20 million on the opening weekend alone, as per Forbes .

The “Crazy in Love” singer, as reported earlier, is said to take home 50% of the grossing from her film’s earnings — as was the case with Swift’s Eras Tour Film . This is not the first time the singer has released a concert film either — as her previous concert film Homecoming is available to stream in the US on Netflix. Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, on the other hand, will hit theaters all over the US on December 1, 2023. Check out the new trailer of the concert film below.

Beyoncé Announces Renaissance World Tour Film: See the Buzz-Worthy Trailer

Just moments after completing the final show from her renaissance world tour, beyoncé announced a film—which will include concert footage, behind-the-scenes content and more—is coming..

We really were the visuals.

Moments after Beyoncé graced the stage for the final show of her Renaissance World Tour , the singer announced another reason why she'll still be all up in our minds: An accompanying concert film will debut in theaters in early December.

As the description for the head-turning trailer reads, " RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ accentuates the journey of RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR, from its inception, to the opening in Stockholm, Sweden, to the finale in Kansas City, Missouri."

"It is about Beyoncé's intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft," the description adds, "Received with extraordinary acclaim, Beyoncé's RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR created a sanctuary for freedom, and shared joy, for more than 2.7 million fans."

The unique trailer features a compilation of concert footage featuring fans, behind-the-scenes content, a Blue Ivy  appearance, of course, and more.

"When I am performing, I am nothing but free," Beyoncé says in the two-minute clip released Oct. 2. "The goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged. Start over, start fresh, create the new. That's what the Renaissance is about."

As for how she's entering this new era? "I feel liberated," she continues, "I have transitioned into a new animal."

The preview comes more than a year after the Grammy winner dropped a teaser hinting at a forthcoming visual production , which had fans on the lookout for it ever since. In fact, after one concertgoer held up a sign asking for the videos earlier this year, Beyoncé told the crowd, " You are the visual, baby ."

And she meant it.

"Be careful what you ask for," she captioned her Instagram video showcasing the trailer, "‘cause I just might comply."

Fans will be able to get in formation once the film premieres in theaters Dec. 1. Until then, take a look at her stunning tour looks.

Beyoncé unveils first trailer for "Renaissance" movie, opening this December in theaters

By Emily Mae Czachor

October 2, 2023 / 3:45 PM EDT / CBS News

The  Renaissance World Tour  may have wrapped on Sunday night, but fans who missed Beyoncé's live concert during its sensational 39-city performance circuit will have another opportunity to experience the show come December, when "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé" premieres in movie theaters across the United States.

"Be careful what you ask for, 'cause I just might comply. Tickets on sale now, in theaters 12.01," Beyoncé wrote on Instagram Sunday night, pulling lyrics from "All Up In Your Mind," one of the tracks off of the artist's "Renaissance" record.

Her post accompanied a trailer for the upcoming film that teases clips from her performances along the world tour, as well as backstage moments and cameo appearances by her husband Jay-Z and their three children. The couple's oldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, performed on the Renaissance tour as a dancer.

"When I am performing, I am nothing but free," Beyoncé's voiceover says in the trailer. "My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free, and no one is judged."

When does the film launch and how can I get tickets?

The Renaissance film opens on Dec. 1 in major cinemas, with tickets already on sale at AMC, Fandango, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark leading up to the big debut. AMC Theatres Distribution, which is handling the Renaissance film's global release, called it a "theatrical concert experience" in a statement and said the movie will be shown at thousands of movie theaters, with additional locations outside the U.S. set to be announced at a later date.

The film will air Thursday through Sunday for at least four weeks after its premiere, AMC said in its statement, which will show an IMAX version of the Renaissance movie in addition to the regular format.

"RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ accentuates the journey of RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR, from its inception to the opening in Stockholm, Sweden, to the finale in Kansas City, Missouri," reads a description for the film on YouTube. "It is about Beyoncé's intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft. Received with extraordinary acclaim, Beyoncé's RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR created a sanctuary for freedom, and shared joy, for more than 2.7 million fans."

Beyoncé's Renaissance tour helped define the summer's pop cultural zeitgeist while generating so much in ticket sales that experts say it boosted local economies . Some estimates suggest the tour brought in a total of $2 billion .

The Renaissance movie announcement came on the heels of Beyoncé's final show on the live tour, and follows the news last month that Taylor Swift's comparably sensational, and profit-driving, Eras world tour would see its own theatrical run in U.S. cinemas, starting Oct. 13.

Beyoncé's past concert films include  2013's "Life Is but a Dream" and 2016's "Lemonade," released by HBO, as well as the 2019 Netflix documentary "Homecoming," which chronicled her headlining show at Coachella the previous year.

Beyoncé , who wrapped her highly acclaimed Renaissance World Tour Sunday, announced Monday a film based on the concert tour will hit the big screen on Dec. 1.

Inside Beyoncé's Renaissance tour

Beyoncé teased the film's announcement with an Instagram story countdown featured on her production company Parkwood Entertainment’s page .

The "Break My Soul" singer kicked off the Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm in May. Intense fan demand, which exceeded the number of tickets by 800% , prompted a follow-up show in the Swedish city and additional shows in North American cities such as Toronto, Chicago, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Beyoncé's native Houston.

The tour made its U.S. debut with a show at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field in July.

"Beyoncé is an unstoppable force of precise movement and vocal dynamics, a superstar who, two months shy of turning 42 and in the where-did-the-time-go third decade of her career, has raised – and cleared – her own ambitious bar yet again," USA TODAY music critic Melissa Ruggieri wrote of the singer's Philadelphia concert.

Aside from highlighting Queen Bey's extensive pop discography, the tour offered fans a colossal, eye-popping production that featured a slew of high fashion costumes , dazzling concept videos and guest appearances from Beyoncé's preteen daughter Blue Ivy.

Hollywood couldn't resist the Renaissance magic either. Several A-listers, including Keke Palmer ,  Sofia Vergara , Prince Harry and  Duchess Meghan , Selena Gomez and rumored couple Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner , attended the singer's SoFi Stadium shows in Inglewood, California, on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2.

Beyoncé took a moment during the September shows to express gratitude to fans for their longtime support.

"I'm grateful to have this perspective and this view of all of you," Beyoncé said. "I've been able to do what I do for over 26 years — going on 27 years. It's because of you. It's because of your loyalty. It's because of your prayers. I just want to say, 'Thank you.' "

On Oct. 26, the Grammy-winning singer shared a poster for the movie on Instagram , which sees her dressed in her finest silver "Alien Superstar" garb.

The prospect of a "Renaissance" movie sent fans buzzing on Sept. 30, when Variety reported that Beyoncé was in final talks to have a film based on her multimillion-dollar tour distributed directly through AMC Theatres. According to the outlet, she's been developing the project for years, much like her last album, which came together during the COVID-19 pandemic. The forthcoming concert film is expected to include a documentary-style account of the making of "Renaissance" and its tour, as well as parts of the visual album and Beyoncé's 2023 live shows .

Per the trailer, fans will also get a glimpse of Beyoncé's children — including Blue Ivy Carter, who joined her on tour . The film will follow "the journey of the 'Renaissance' World Tour, from its inception, to the opening in Stockholm, Sweden, to the finale in Kansas City, Missouri," according to the movie's website. "It is about Beyoncé's intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft."

Per praise from critics and fans, the "Renaissance" tour rose to extraordinary acclaim in its five-month run, creating a "sanctuary for freedom and shared joy" for millions of fans ( and celebrities ) along the way.

The Beyhive will be getting in formation once again, as a concert film of Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour is coming to theaters.

Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé will be in theaters on Dec. 1 in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. More international dates will be listed later, according to the film's distributor, AMC Theatres Distribution.

It "accentuates the journey of RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR, from its inception to the opening show in Stockholm, Sweden, to the grand finale in Kansas City, Missouri," AMC said in a Monday release. "It is about Beyoncé's intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft."

Beyoncé's renaissance tour is a cozy, hypersonic, soul-healing experience.

The trailer shows moments from her performances, as well as documentary-style footage of the singer with her dancers, husband Jay-Z, and children — including her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, who joined her onstage for a dance number during several dates of the tour.

Reaction to news of the movie was quick and enthusiastic, as fans have been asking for yet-to-be-released music videos to accompany the album, after Beyoncé released a teaser with her in different looks shortly after the album came out in July 2022.

She posted the trailer for the film to her Instagram with the caption, "Be careful what you ask for, 'cause I just might comply," a lyric from one of the album's songs, "ALL UP IN YOUR MIND."

Beyoncé performed 56 times in 39 cities for the tour, which sold more than 2.7 million tickets. In total, it earned $579 million , which has made history as the highest-grossing tour by a female artist and the seventh highest-grossing tour of all time.

Tickets start at $22 and have already gone on sale, AMC said. The movie will also show at Cinemark, Regal, Cinepolis and Cineplex locations across North America.

Back in August, AMC also announced a concert film of Taylor Swift's Eras tour . Presale revenues have surpassed $100 million for that movie, the company said.

It has not publicly released presale amounts for the Renaissance film, an AMC spokesperson told NPR.
