QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE @ The Hordern

Queens of the stone age.

Taking over The Hordern, right here at The Entertainment Quarter for two huge nights on 21st and 22nd February 2023

Queens of the Stone Age officially announce ‘The End Is Nero’ Summer 2024 Australian and New Zealand tour, the band’s first appearance in Australasia since 2018.

The far-reaching tour, hailed by NME as  “a band reaching the peak of their powers”  and the Lincoln Star Journal to proclaim it  “the best rock show I’ve seen in a very long time”  will see the band at Melbourne and Sydney.  Queens of the Stone Age  will then continue their tour in Auckland and Wellington before concluding the run in Christchurch.

‘The End is Nero’  tour is in support of their acclaimed eighth studio album,  ‘In Times New Roman…’  which debuted at #2 on the ARIA charts and which NME Australia described as  “their darkest, knottiest material to date.’

The End Is Nero  tour is an invitation from Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore to come celebrate the end of the world, which we hear is  “in a month or two.”  They would like to encourage the obscene and the clean, the outcasts and the weirdos, and anyone and everyone in between to attend, this is where you belong. Leave your judgment at the door, bring anything and everything else.

Queens Of The Stone Age Australian Dates

Queens Of The Stone Age will return to Australia and New Zealand on their Villains World Tour, performing nine huge headline shows for Frontier Touring throughout August and September.

queens of the stone age tour australia 2023

They will be joined at all shows by Australian blues maestro C.W. Stoneking.

‘Queens Of The Stone Age, you beautiful bunch of freaks. Rock’n’roll just doesn’t get any sexier than the sounds this band lovingly wrench from their instruments and these skillful players perform with a synergy that proves they’re a band of brothers who genuinely rate each other.’ – The Music

Helmed by founding member Joshua Homme (guitar/vocals), with Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar), Dean Fertita (guitar/keys), Jon Theodore (drums/percussion) and Michael Shuman (bass), Queens of The Stone Age will kick off the AU & NZ leg of their Villains World Tour at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Thursday 23 August.

From there, the rock’n’roll legends will perform a second New Zealand date at Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena, before landing in Australia to perform shows in Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne and Adelaide closing out the tour at Perth Arena on Wednesday 12 September. These shows make good on Homme’s promise made while on our shores last year of returning before too long:

“Everybody who knows me knows that Australia is my home away from home.” – Josh Homme

Tickets to all dates go on sale on Thursday 3 May – head to frontiertouring.com/QOTSA for all of the details.

Following hundreds of epic shows, six genre-defining albums and multiple Grammy nominations, Queens Of The Stone Age blasted forth once more from the Californian desert last August with their most recent acclaimed chart-topping seventh album, Villains (released via Matador Records/Remote Control Records).

Featuring fan and radio favourites ‘Head Like A Haunted House’, ‘The Way You Used To Do’ and ‘The Evil Has Landed’, Villains was named #8 on Rolling Stone’s ‘50 Best Albums of 2017’ list and debuted at #1 on Australia’s ARIA Album Chart.

C.W. Stoneking, the embodiment of what some would say is a bygone era of music, will join Queens Of The Stone Age as special guest at all Australian and New Zealand shows. From his rasping jungle-rock-blues, to his well-oiled locks, and his familiar, though increasingly less frequent, all white clothing ensemble, he has converted fans across the world to his unique style.

Over three albums (King Hokum, ARIA award-winning Jungle Blues and his most recent release, Gon’ Boogaloo), and countless tours both here and abroad, C.W. has delivered his own brand of swampy rhythm and blues via his larger than life persona, incredible musicianship, and epochal performances.

Currently in the midst of wowing fans on a massive USA run and returning to our shores off the back of dates in Japan, Queens Of The Stone Age are not to be missed. Arguably one of the best rock bands on the planet, and armed with their latest rock masterpiece in Villains, these will be the tightest shows you’re ever likely to see. Their 2017 AU & NZ tour completely sold out immediately – don’t delay!

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting Queens Of The Stone Age tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

Age Restrictions: 18+

Formed by Joshua Homme against a backdrop of 1990s Palm Desert, California, Queens of the Stone Age is what happens when a multidimensional musical entity outgrows the very genre it creates. Too prolific, ambitious and just plain brilliant to be tethered to or limited by the confines of any genre. Ultimately morphing into the behemoth that has blessed the world with a range of bangers from “No One Knows” to “Little Sister,” “My God is the Sun” to “The Way You Used To Do” and everything in between. Undeniably rock — yes, always, but with the blood, sweat and dark magical swagger only Homme and his cohorts can conjure.

Queens of the Stone Age announce massive Australian tour

queens of the stone age tour australia 2023

  • X (formerly Twitter)

The band have also added two new shows in Melbourne and Sydney

The mighty Queens Of The Stone Age will be back in Australia in 2018, with a string of massive shows locked in around the country.

The band were last here in 2017 to headline Splendour In The Grass and play a few sideshows, but this time around they're broadening their approach. The band will play dates in Newcastle, Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth added to the usual Sydney and Melbourne run. Sadly, no Darwin this time around.

RELATED: The J Files: Queens of the Stone Age

Last year's tour came in the lead up to the release of the band's seventh album, the Mark Ronson produced Villains . This time around you'll know all the words, which should make these shows even better.

Video: YouTube

There's only one thing better than a Queens of the Stone Age tour, and that's a Queens of the Stone Age tour with C.W. Stoneking in support. Australia's favourite old-soul returns to home turf to open the shows and, while it's a pretty bizarre combination, we are 100 percent in support of it.

Josh Homme is pretty excited himself: “ Queens of the Stone Age are proud to be sharing the stage with premier examples of Australian artistry, individuality and personality on our upcoming tour of Australia & New Zealand. As longtime fans of C.W. Stoneking and brand spanking new fans of The Chats , we'll spend as much time watching music from the side of the stage, as we will playing music from the center of it. With a musical spectrum as wide and wild as the Australian outback itself, an unforgettable night is not a mere possibility, but a goddamn certainty! ”

Stoneking's last record Gon' Boogaloo is now three-and-a-half years old, so here's hoping he'll have some new material for us when he plays these shows. They'll be great regardless, though.

Here are the full run of dates – all shows are all ages. Tickets are on sale from Thursday 3 May.

Update: The band have added another two shows to the tour. Tickets for the 1st and 8th of September go on sale at 12noon AEST on Wednesday 9th May.

Thursday 30 August – Newcastle Entertainment Centre

Recent tour reviews

I am unbelievably disappointed having spent £120.00 that I only saw some of The Hives. I left the festival in 30 degree heat, unable to get a drink unless I was prepared to queue for up to, or over 2 hours. This was unfeasible given the temperatures and the fact that I would miss the bands.

I was then told I was not allowed to re-enter the festival if I left. THIS WAS OUTRAGEOUS! We were not allowed to take refreshments inside the festival. We COULD NOT get a drink inside the festival and then were penalized for getting refreshment outside the site. Why was there no re-entry? This policy should have been immediately changed when you realised you were unable to provide adequate refreshment.

I would expect a refund as this was a terrible experience and one I will never repeat. I missed the bands I wanted to se because of your dreadful lack of planning.

I expect a reply please at your earliest convenience.

It was a pretty poorly organised affair if I am completely honest.

The queues for the bars were totally ridiculous and some of my friends left early as they were just so fed up with waiting for a drink.

That said, the bands were staggeringly good. I've been following QOTSA since 200 and have lost count of the number of times I've seen them but can honestly say that this was amongst the best I have seen them. Josh was on good form and the crowd were loving it. (Iggy had warmed them up nicely).

Before that we saw Brody Dalle, whose new stuff is excellent and benefited from the drummer and guitarist from Savages helping her out.

Deap Vally were excellent, as were Skinny Girls Diet but somehow, Miles Kane didn't fit into the line up.

Nice shows, shame about the organisation!

Queens of the Stoneage were Amazing,I have seen them Twice in the UK but this Gig was so much Better,Josh Homme & the Band were on Top Form Playing All their Big Singles Aswell as Tracks which they would not Normally Play like Songs From The Deaf & Millionaire which were Amazing,We came to the Gig Because Royal Blood were Supporting & we are Massive Fans of Theirs After Seeing Them Live in Cardiff on Their How Did We Get So Dark Tour Last November in Cardiff,I would Love to See Queens Of The Stoneage Play in the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff as on this Album Tour they only played London & Manchester which was a Real Disappointment as we always try to see them,we Seen them on the Era Vulgaris Tour in the 02 in Bristol when Josh Homme was not well & the Like Clockwork Tour in Birmingham 21/11/13 which they were good,I would love them to come to the Capital of Wales to play as they do have Loads of Fans here too,Fingers Crossed.

Queens Of The Stone Age.

Queens of the Stone Age officially announce ‘The End Is Nero’ Summer 2024 Australian and New Zealand tour, the band’s first appearance in Australasia since 2018. The official announcement comes after the band excitedly teased the news via social media last week, “ sending shockwaves of excitement through the Gold Coast and beyond.”  – GC Mag.

The far-reaching tour, hailed by NME as “ a band reaching the peak of their powers” and the Lincoln Star Journal to proclaim it “ the best rock show I’ve seen in a very long time” will see the band start at Red Hill Auditorium in Perth on 10th February, ahead of shows in Adelaide, Hobart, Torquay, Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane. Queens of the Stone Age will then continue their tour in Auckland and Wellington before concluding the run in Christchurch on 3 rd March.

‘The End is Nero’ tour is in support of their acclaimed eighth studio album, ‘In Times New Roman…’ which debuted at #2 on the ARIA charts and which NME Australia described as “their darkest, knottiest material to date.’ The End Is Nero  tour is an invitation from Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore to come celebrate the end of the world, which we hear is “in a month or two.” They would like to encourage the obscene and the clean, the outcasts and the weirdos, and anyone and everyone in between to attend, this is where you belong. Leave your judgment at the door, bring anything and everything else.

Queens Of The Stone Age Announce new Album, Share First Single

By Jules LeFevre

Queens of the Stone Age have announced their new album In Times New Roman… will be released on Friday, 16th June. It’s the group’s eighth studio album and the first since 2017’s Villians.

The band have also shared the first single from the record, a classically crunching QOTSA cut called ‘Emotion Sickness’. And no, it doesn’t share any DNA with the Siverchair single. Listen to the new track below.

Queens Of The Stone Age: ‘Emotion Sickness’

Queens of the Stone described the album as “the sound of a band creating the music its own members want to hear, while giving the rest of us a sonic forum in which to congregate”. It was recorded at frontman Josh Homme’s Pink Duck home studio, with additional bits done at Rick Rubin’s Malibu studio Shangri-La.

The news comes after Homme shared a lengthy statement in March regarding his ongoing legal battle with his ex-wife and The Distillers’ Brody Dalle over the custody of their three children. Dalle filed for divorce from Homme in 2019, reportedly citing his drug and alcohol abuse; both Homme and Dalle were granted restraining orders against the other during the custody battle.

In the new statement, Homme accused Dalle and her boyfriend, Gunner Foxx of causing “the children emotional harm”, and referred to “recent” actions by the pair that put the children “in great danger”.

Homme was granted sole custody of the children in March 2022, and in the statement, he confirms he was granted a restraining order against Foxx in August last year. Homme also revealed he was granted another restraining order against Dalle, this one running for nearly two years from March 2023.

In Times New Roman … Tracklist

  • ‘Obscenery’
  • ‘Paper Machete’
  • ‘Negative Space’
  • ‘Time & Place’
  • ‘Made to Parade’
  • ‘Carnavoyeur ‘
  • ‘What the Peephole Say’
  • ‘Emotion Sickness’
  • ‘Straight Jacket Fitting’

Royal Blood have previously worked with Homme, who co-produced the band’s third studio album ‘Typhoons’ and featured on Homme’s 2019 side project ‘The Desert Sessions Vol 11/12 ‘.

Speaking to NME about the confidence awarded him by the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman , Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr revealed: “Josh Homme said, ‘If you expect anything from music, you expect too much’,” said Kerr. “Tomorrow is never promised, and I’m amazed we’ve got this far and still get to do this.

“We never had any ambitions to play  this  venue or do  that  tour. The only ambitions we have now are to keep digging and pushing forward creatively. It adds fuel. I get to the end of every record and think, ‘I never want to do this again – I’m broken, I’m fucked’. I have no idea how to start another album, but when you find a new thing all the inspiration comes back.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Royal Blood (@royalblooduk)

Kerr continued: “Making an album is really hard. I’ve had amazing moments in [our studio] but they’re really fleeting. I spent most of my time really doubting if I can do this. It’s imposter syndrome – thinking you’re shit most of the time. Then you get this blip where you think, ‘Maybe I’m not completely shit’. You get to the end and it’s like finishing a marathon.”

The band have also described Homme as being “just like this big kid having fun” while working with him as a co-producer for their LP. “Like every great producer, he’s a great mirror-holder,” said Kerr. “That comes with commentary as well. We’ve always been so heavily involved in the production of our records, but he didn’t have any doubt on our ability but would just say, ‘Have you ever thought about this?’ He’s just a suggestion machine.

“Before, the recording sessions had been very serious. Watching him, he was just like this big kid having fun. He’s always asking ‘What if?’ He’s very creative. Suddenly, when we came to record our own record we were like, ‘These are just dumb fucking toys! None of this shit is important. Use it however you want’.”

In other news, Queens Of The Stone Age recently r eflected on their decision to step up and headline the 2024 edition of Download Festival.

“Is it just going to be same-old-same-old?’ began Homme in a recent interview with  NME , in which the frontman and keyboardist and guitarist Dean Fertita spoke about their upcoming set at the  Donington festival .

“You always have to give it your all and changing it every night is what we’re about, so it’s always going to be something different. I don’t think there’s any reason to trip out.”

Fertita agreed, adding: “I think the reason that the shows have been so good is because there’s a relaxation to the approach. We’ll decide five minutes before going on to play something that we haven’t played in 20 years.”

“And if you see someone with a sign that says, ‘Do this god damn tune’ then it feels nice to just be able to react in the moment,” Homme chimed in. “We come bearing gifts, and we want to give everything away. It’s nice to play Donington, but it’s just as nice to play Bournemouth too. That’s not to cheapen either – they’re both as good as it can get. These aren’t real problems.”
