Digital Photo Download Question

Does anyone know how much Princess will charge to download digital photos onto a CD ? Do they add more to it or do a new one each time? Can I bring my own CD?

I too would like to know the answer to this question. I would assume the price would be fleetwide.

There will be some sort of package deal; Princess seems to be tweaking the exact details all the time. But they will allow you to dowload your pictures from your camera as often as you need throughout the cruise and they will burn a CD for you at the end. The package we had last year was about $40, included one or two of the ship 8 x 10s and 5 or so prints of our pics.
Princess has recently announced they will be putting digital photo kiosks (like at the drugstore) where you can print out from your media card directly, on the ships. Not sure about the rollout dates.

I got this off another CC thread using the search function:
Here's what Princess has to say about it
Princess Introduces Digital Photo Kiosks Fleetwide
User-Friendly Machines Enable Passengers to Easily Print and Store Their Precious Vacation Memories
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - As travelers are increasingly adding digital cameras to their packing lists, Princess Cruises has made it easier than ever for its passengers to print or save those precious vacation memories right on board with new self-service digital photo kiosks.
The entire fleet of Princess ships now features state-of-the-art machines from Pixel Magic Imaging, a leader in digital imaging and photo kiosks. The user-friendly stations offer passengers the opportunity to make high-quality prints of favorite photos in a variety of sizes or save their images to a CD at the touch of a button. The kiosks accept all popular forms of digital media, enabling owners of most types of digital cameras to access the service's many features.
"We know that capturing vacation memories is important to our passengers," said Jan Swartz, Princess' senior vice president of customer service and sales. "These innovative kiosks have been enthusiastically received by our passengers who don't want to wait until they return home to enjoy their photographs. They're also great for sharing copies of photos instantly with newfound friends, and passengers can download their digital media cards directly to a CD, freeing their cameras for the next round of cruise memories."
A Pixel Magic digital kiosk is located adjacent to the onboard photo services desk on each ship. The machines offer a range of printing options, including editing functions to crop or enlarge images plus add boarders and other special effects. Prices for kiosk services begin at 45 cents for a 4x6 print.
Princess' shipboard photography program also offers a wide range of professional photographic options including portrait services, event photos, wedding photography & videography, retail digital cameras & accessories and digital imaging services.
This is just my failing memory here, but I remember a sign saying $14.95 for a single CD transfer (no option for providing your own CD) on our Coral Panama cruise earlier this year. Seems it was a lot less expensive than last year so they may be gearing up for the kiosk (drugstore) type transfers... :)
ToplessPony
Does any one know if they also offer to copy your memory card to a DVD instead of having to use multiple CD's?
two4cruising
This information is from the PRINCESS PATTER - Sea Princess June 21, 2005:
"Digital Services
Is your memory card full?
We can burn all you images to CD-ROM.
From only $9,95."
BigTimeCruiser
The $9.95 figure to burn a CD is correct, unless you are on the Caribbean Princess. They have not yet put the Kiosk out for passengers to use. Seems they are having a problem with their machine and can't get it to function.
a big thank-you for that info- I was wondering if there was such a service.
I was in China in July and luckily transferred my very full memory-stick at 5 pm, to a cd, just in time, as next morning my camera was lost/stolen and I would have lost two weeks of memories.
Is there a way to verify that the CD is good once the pictures have been transfered? I'd hate to delete the pictures on my memory card only to find that the CD was bad.

Would Expect a Whole Lot More from Princess
Princess claims to be ahead of the technology game with Medallion Net so I would expect the one and only tool Princess directs is to use is full of faults. Granted I can do pre-cruise checkins but we have 12 upcoming cruises and 2 are back to back and 3 are back to back to back and this app only allows you to visit excursions, make dining reservations and view itineraries on the 1st leg of any of the multiple cruises. We have a back to back on different ships and again, I can only see excursions or make dining plans on the first of the 2 cruises. Even though we are on different ships! Old app had numerous problems but there were ways to navigate through app to get things done albeit app was very slow to load. This app is way slower and useless in many of the needed functions. I have had to rely on using the online webpage and using my planner at Princess. I think if they are going to push us to use this app starting today (3/8), they should have made it much more usable then it is now.
Still a long way from being a useful app
This app is an abyssmal failure with regards to accommodating two specific variations of Princess Cruises, and if it were possible, I would give it a minus 2-star rating accordingly. For passengers who have booked two cruises with an end date of the first cruise and start date of the second cruise within two days of each other, the app treats them as one linked back-to-back cruise, regardless of whether or not they were booked separately, have two separate itinerary numbers, and/or are on two different ships. What this means is that the user cannot access the second cruise to do anything that can only be completed using the app. The second failure is associated with Princess Cruisetours. Journeyview is not set up to include any aspect of the land itinerary. Put the two together, and it gets even worse. I just received an email from Princess Cruises urging me to go to the app to complete vital information necessary to finish checking in for my upcoming cruise. When I opened the app to do so, I received the following error message: “To access the app, please connect to our free onboard Wi-Fi ‘MedallionNet®’ or check your connection status“. The ship for the landtour I am currently is entering Glacier Bay at the moment, and I am probably 650 miles away from it in the interior of Alaska with no access to MedallionNet. Back to the drawing board, folks. This app STILL is not ready for prime time.
Awful at basic functionality
Just came off my first Princess cruise and while we had a great time overall, the onboard app is one of the worst I’ve ever used on any cruise line I’ve been on before (been on 4 other lines). The app can track a family member anywhere on the ship and have food brought to me anywhere but if I want to know what places were available to get food at any point of time, or what restaurant hours were it’s impossible to find. There are no filter options for food, entertainment, or kids activities. To find anything you have to search through the whole days itinerary. Also, and this is the worst issue- there are no phone notifications so if someone sends me a chat I get no notification on either my phone or Apple Watch. The only way I can see this is by opening the app and usually a bunch of time already passed by since it was sent. This is basic stuff and there is no excuse for not having this functionality when you have advanced features on the ship. Don’t get me started on the specialty dining reservation process for premier package cruisers and the frustration placing and changing reservations without getting charged. Whoever designs this app should take a Disney cruise to see what a real cruise app looks like. Was definitely a negative to an otherwise nice vacation and definitely played a factor into me sailing with Princess again (probably won’t).

All 16 Princess Cruises Ships, From Newest to Oldest
Here’s everything you need to know about the Princess Cruises fleet.
Courtesy of Princess Cruises
Sailors of all ages love Princess Cruises for its quality, service, value, and serene style of cruising. What’s more, the 2023 T+L World’s Best Award-winning mega-ship line — which is also a WBA Hall of Fame Honoree — tends to steer clear of splashy entertainment (for example, you won’t find go-karts, water slides, or ziplines on board most ships) in favor of more refined activities. Discovery at SEA programming is a standout offering: In partnership with Discovery and Animal Planet, guests can partake in nature-centric onboard activities and shore excursions. Most Princess ships boast a majestic atrium modeled after an Italian piazza, and it’s here where you’ll find some of the best drinking, dining, and shopping venues on board.
According to travel advisor and cruise specialist Jennaca Boose of Marvelous Mouse Travels , Princess’ fleet of 15 ships — 16 if you count the upcoming Sun Princess , which will make its long-anticipated debut this year — is family-friendly, and each vessel is “equipped to entertain all ages;” however, some cater towards specific age demographics better than others. For example, she says, travelers sailing with younger children will especially love Royal Princess and Regal Princess , which “have even more to offer” beyond the kids club, such as “outdoor play areas with jungle gyms and a separate teen space with a hot tub.” Meanwhile, says Boose, cruisers craving an intimate onboard experience may consider sailing aboard Coral Princess or Island Princess , which are two of the line’s smaller ships.
Finally, it’s also worth noting that the line offers dozens, if not hundreds, of itineraries across the globe, including Alaska, Mexico, Japan, the Mediterranean, and many more. “Whether you’re looking for a quick getaway or an immersive cultural itinerary,” says Boose, “Princess has a ship for you.” Without further ado, keep scrolling for a breakdown of each ship in the Princess Cruises fleet to help you narrow down which vessels would be best for you.
Sun Princess
Inaugural Year: 2024
Ship Class: Sphere
Ship Capacity: 4,300 guests
The inaugural ship in Princess' new Sphere class, Sun Princess is the line's largest — and flashiest — vessel to date. Set to sail the Mediterranean and Caribbean, this 20-deck mega-ship is sure to make waves following its early 2024 debut. The Park19 family zone will offer nine fun-filled activities, including the Sea Breeze (the first Rollglider at sea), The Lookout (an open-air observation deck), and Coastal Climb (a climbing structure for adventure enthusiasts of all ages). There’s also a two-deck arena, the multi-level Dome entertainment space, and the brand-new Spellbound, a Victorian-themed bar where guests can watch magicians while sipping theatrical cocktails.
Discovery Princess
Inaugural Year: 2022
Ship Class: Royal
Ship Capacity: 3,660 guests
For an elegant onboard experience complete with world-class specialty dining that’ll entice any gourmand, spectacular live entertainment in the lavish Princess Theater, and the largest balconies at sea (spanning over 1,000 square feet) found in one of the ship’s splurge-worthy Sky Suites, look no further than Princess’ final Royal-class ship. Spend sea days soaking up the sun — and the ocean views — by the infinity Wake View Pool.
Enchanted Princess
Inaugural Year: 2021
The elegant Enchanted Princess is a haven for relaxation-seekers with four sparkling pools (including the infinity-edge Wake View Pool), 10 hot tubs, and a serene spa offering Asian-inspired treatments. For the ultimate splurge, reserve one of the sprawling Sky Suites, best known for their expansive balconies offering 270-degree sea views. Other honorable mentions include the Sanctuary, Discovery at SEA, movie screenings under the stars, and the SeaWalk, a 60-foot-long glass-enclosed hallway with floor-to-ceiling ocean vistas.
Sky Princess
Inaugural Year: 2019
The snazzy Sky Princess made its grand debut in 2019; fast-forward five years later, and the ship has retained its allure. The three-story atrium is the beating heart of the ship, dotted with shops, bars, and restaurants galore. Check out Chef’s Table Lumiere, or try your luck at the casino for the ultimate splurge. Finally, for the best ocean views, book one of the Sky Suites.
Majestic Princess
Taylor McIntyre/Travel + Leisure
Inaugural Year: 2017
Ship Capacity: 3,560 guests
This Royal-class ship was initially designed for cruises from Shanghai, which means passengers can expect Chinese-inspired decor along with the fantastic specialty restaurant, Harmony, which features mouthwatering Asian menu items like wok-fried lobster, spring rolls, and more. Also unique to Majestic Princess is the adults-only Hollywood Pool Club, a perfect spot for grown-ups looking to soak in style. Meanwhile, don’t miss the dazzling casino and incredible SeaWalk, where panoramic ocean views await.
Regal Princess
Inaugural Year: 2014
This 2014 mega-ship definitely delivers in terms of onboard attractions. A few fan favorites include movies under the stars (best enjoyed with popcorn and candy in hand, of course), original productions, an outdoor musical fountain show, and Princess Live!, where passengers will find interactive culinary shows along with late-night comedy and game shows that can be viewed in-person or from the comfort of one’s stateroom. Last but not least, don’t forget to snap a selfie on the SeaWalk.
Royal Princess
Inaugural Year: 2013
Prepare to receive the royal treatment (pun intended) aboard the 3,560-passenger Royal Princess . The ship’s dazzling common spaces, including the grand atrium and the SeaWalk, are sure to impress design lovers, while the drinking and dining options, including the extravagant Chef’s Table Lumiere — available only on Royal-class ships — will delight culinary connoisseurs of all ages.
Ruby Princess
Inaugural Year: 2008
Ship Class: Crown
Ship Capacity: 3,080 guests
Entertainment options abound on the 19-deck Ruby Princess , from movies under the stars and basketball to golfing and (hopefully) winning big at the casino. While party-going cruisers can dance ‘til the wee hours of the night at Skywalkers, serenity-seeking travelers may choose to hit the sack early before waking up to enjoy the spa or The Sanctuary.
Emerald Princess
Inaugural Year: 2007
Last refurbished in 2019, Emerald Princess features something for families of all ages, including reimagined Camp Discovery youth and teen centers and the serene Sanctuary, a kid-free slice of paradise in the middle of the sea. Passengers can also perfect their swing at the putting course, enjoy poolside movie screenings, unwind at one of several swanky bars and lounges, including the Speakeasy Cigar Lounge, hit the spa, or dance the night away at the onboard club. In summary, it’s pretty much impossible to be bored on this ship.
Crown Princess
Inaugural Year: 2006
Despite its 3,000-plus passenger capacity , Crown Princess never feels super crowded thanks to abundant onboard amenities and activities. Highlights include three main dining rooms, a three-story atrium, and, of course, ample activities and programming, which run the gamut from basketball courts and pajama movie nights for kids to karaoke and an onboard nightclub.
Diamond Princess
Inaugural Year: 2004
Ship Class: Grand
Ship Capacity: 2,670 guests
Best known for its Asia itineraries, Diamond Princess is sure to wow cruisers of all ages with its unique onboard features. Wellness-seekers need not miss the Izumi Japanese Bath, where guests can enjoy a traditional Japanese bathing experience coupled with breathtaking ocean views. There’s also the adults-only Sanctuary sun deck, Broadway-caliber entertainment, ample restaurants (including five main dining rooms), a nightclub, and so much more.
Caribbean Princess
Ship Capacity: 3,140 guests
This massive 18-deck ship was last refurbished in 2019 to bring it up to par with the line’s latest vessels. The European-inspired piazza , boasting street performers, eclectic boutiques, restaurants and bars, and a striking spiral staircase, is the beating heart of the ship. Plus, as part of the line’s partnership with Discovery, guests can enjoy nature-filled activities and lectures.
Sapphire Princess
Ship Capacity: 2,670 guests
Those craving a traditional cruising experience need not look further than the 20-year-old Sapphire Princess . With an onboard nightclub, five main dining rooms (plus many other bars and lounges, including a cigar lounge), this 2,670-passenger ship is among the line’s buzziest. After dancing the night away, adults can spend the day relaxing at The Sanctuary, while families will surely appreciate the dedicated spaces for kids, tweens, and teens.
Island Princess
Inaugural Year: 2003
Ship Class: Coral
Ship Capacity: 2,200 guests
Island Princess was purposefully built to sail through the Panama Canal. This 2,200-guest, 20-plus-year-old ship offers a more refined onboard experience compared to the line’s newer, flashier vessels. Sea days are well spent at the spa, in swimming pools, or sipping cocktails in the massive atriums; come nighttime, watch movies under the stars (a Princess staple) or catch live musical performances before hitting the sack — and getting ready to do it all again the following day.
Coral Princess
Ship Capacity: 2,000 guests
Coral Princess is Princess’ smallest ship; however, there is still plenty to see, do, and experience on board. Guests can make themselves right at home in the piazza-style grand atrium, where prime people-watching awaits. For some R&R, grown-ups can head to the tranquil, adults-only Sanctuary while the kids are at play at the children’s centers.
Grand Princess
Inaugural Year: 1998
Ship Capacity: 2,600 guests
Princess’ oldest ship underwent a major renovation back in 2019, adding fan-favorite restaurants like Alfredo's Pizzeria, Salty Dog Grill, and Coffee & Cones. Catch a Broadway-style show, relax at The Sanctuary, or partake in nature-centric activities as part of the line’s Discovery at SEA programming.

Roughly how many photos are taken ? Thanks

- 1 yr gah_cruise changed the title to Premier Photo package..quantity and image size?
Curious about the answer myself, meaning under the new Premier offer. There are three prints given in the Premier package, but don't know the size of the print, or if you have a choice of which photo, would think you would. They're always taking photos at ports, dining, formal nights... Unlimited download.
As far as downloaded images, they are digital files. I would think you could have them printed in any size the photo printing business offered. Again, if I'm wrong on that, I'm posting to learn.

Its the size (resolution) of the available images I am concerned about........ size matters 🙂 when editing and printing at home

On a cruise earlier this year we bought one of the photo packages. The downloaded images ranged from 1.3mb to 2.7mb.
What is the image format? JPEG (JPG)? TIFF (TIF)??
EDIT: Oh, for those of you who don't know how to properly pronounce GIF... This is from Steve Wilhite who is the developer of that particular image format.

I once had to correct an instructor in a University class who was pronouncing it incorrectly. Naturally, she didn't believe me until I pulled out part of the original documentation from CompuServe. I got "extra credit". 😁

Does anyone know if the embarkation photo, the Hubbard Bay photo and Glacier Bay photo are included? If I recall correctly on my last two trips when I did not have a package in 2013 & 2015 that these pictures were more expensive and I was wondering if they are included in the plus and premier packages.

Our downloaded images were JPGs.
And congratulations on the extra credit. 😂
Our printed images wer 5X7, 6X8, and 8X10 and images downloaded were jpg. We each initially got one print of each size, but the app let us get an extra set and maybe even more if we had tried.
Image reolution on jpg was not great at 1600 x 2000. No usb stick was offered with the images, but we did not ask either.
We should bring our own USB THEN @Plato123 ?

You could but we just downloaded the images to our tablets (or phone) or whatever you use the Princess app on, and I transfered them to our PC at home. The files are not big.

@gah_cruise I had the premier package in September 2022 on Royal. I asked for a flashdrive with the photos downloaded onto it. We tried to download the files (JPG) onto the tablet I had with me, but it was not possible. I checked with the tech people and it was confirmed; not able to download my photos.
Upon request, they gave me the flashdrive. I'm thinking of taking this flashdrive with me on my upcoming sailing, as I am getting the premier package once again.
We had a chance to view all the photos that they took, maybe around 20 or so...The photographers obliged our requests whenever we asked for photos to be taken, e.g., with formal backgrounds, with glacier backgrounds - REAL ones outside, and on deck as we docked into Juneau. There didn't appear to be a limit to the number of photos that could be taken. Photographers were to be commended for their abilities to set the "poses" in the formal photos. I was very pleased with the results.
We were allowed to choose three hard copy photos. I chose one of Mendenhall Glacier that was displayed.
Only one odd thing happened, that someone has already noted here. I saw the photos for our embarkation when I was previewing all the photos onboard. Yet, when I got home, I noticed that the photos from embarkation were not loaded onto my flash drive! I am going to watch for this photo this time, and request that I get this. Fingers crossed.
For those of you who are curious as to why anyone would get the premier package...it was a promo offered last fall, included in our fare. This time, with the changes of the wines that are offered in the PLUS, the premier makes more sense to suit my preferences. Also cruising with long-time friends, I am looking forward to getting good photos of this occasion.
TMI - but I have tried to address some of the earlier comments and queries.

Unfortunate they didn't have TIFF images for you. Much larger files but vastly better image quality.

It is a shame. We wanted to get this one printed life size for our bedroom wall.

In the Premier Photo package, the average image size of the photos available for download varies depending on factors like camera resolution and image content. Typically, they range from around 2 to 10 megabytes per photo. As for quantity, it's hard to give an exact number since it can vary based on the length of your cruise and the events happening onboard. On average, passengers receive anywhere from 50 to 200 photos in the package.
Regarding jpg compress , it's worth noting that JPEG compression is commonly used to reduce file size without significantly affecting image quality. The photos in your package are likely optimized using JPEG compression to balance quality and download speed.
23 minutes ago, jatinpanda said: Regarding jpg compress , it's worth noting that JPEG compression is commonly used to reduce file size without significantly affecting image quality.
jpg compression is lossy. That means that data *is* lost. If the image is saved with a higher quality (less compression) most people won't notice. But they can be compressed too much.
When getting the premiere package remember it is three prints per person with the package. You can use the app to look at your photos taken on your phone. On our next cruise we will be doing a back to back, so I will pick up my photo prints at the end of each segment. Also I have Princess put all my photos on a drive to take home in addition to downloading them onto my phone. Once at home I use an online photo service to make larger prints/canvas’ of my favorite pictures.
Shame they only give small JPEGs. I would never pay for them if that were the case. I will only be retrieving them because they are included with the premiere package. So we go on the last night and they give us a flash drive or do I have to bring one with me? I have no interest in downloading these photos to my phone.

I don't they are small jpegs. Not if people can make large prints of them.
The only reason I am considering the Premier package is to get the photo package. Crazy I know but I am one of those people who is always taking the photos and not in them so I see it as a way to get proof I was there. 😉

You “can” make a large print of anything, but “can” and “should” are two very different things. Different people can also have vastly different standards. Taste is subjective, but photos in the 1-2mb range are objectively small, particularly for something that is professionally taken and paid for.

Just to make sure, does Princess provide a flash drive to download the photos on or should we bring our own drive? Also, believe I read that each person gets 3 prints (not just pre cabin).
Thanks for all responses. Got the premier as Son's girlfriend has never been on a cruise and wanted to make sure she got the most out of it.
There were 3 of us, all with premier package. We each got 3 prints---selected from the ones that were displayed in the gallery. We all had access to them on our app and could download to our phones. Typically they don't provide flash drives, but there was an issue with downloading photos on my phone so they did give me a flash drive with the photos.
Not sure if they could use one you bring because of security (putting a flash drive in one of their computers from the outside could be security risk since a flash drive could contain malware, virus, etc.). They're so tiny to pack that you could take one and ask.

I sailed last year on Sky and they did provide a flash drive.
I have not read any of the other postings. The 8 of us had the Premier package, including all the pictures that we had TIME (speaking for myself) to take. I wish I could have taken more, but being off the ship 3 days to the different ports, there were a few pictures taken at that time, but not many. I am very HAPPY with all the pictures I did get. When choosing 3, if you have taken many pictures, they will either be in 8 x 10 and smaller size. Also they will have some black/white pictures as well. They will not have any duplicate of pictures in the different sizes. My son was able to ask that ALL of our pictures be down loaded on a stick for him. This way if I did not see all the pictures (which is true) that were taken by the photographers, then he would have my pictures, as well as the other pictures of the rest of our group.

Lots of info on here already! But I did want to add a little something!
Sometimes, the facial recognition software doesn't work properly. Look around at the displays in the photography department and if you see one there that isn't in your App, take it to one of the staff members at the desk and they will make sure it is added to your account.
Take all the photos, they are out and about all of the time and some of my favorite photos were actually the candid ones they take on sail away!
I've never had the photos put on a flash drive as I've always downloaded them onto my phone, but I like knowing that I could have a 'backup' that way.
We get the Premier Package primarily for the photos. Such a fun time and there are some photo staff members that seem to have a great time with silly poses and goofy faces.
Crookshanks, I agree with you about the photographers on the Regal ship. As you can guess, with a group of 8 (not all the time but quite a bit of the time), they would get used to us, when taking pictures. In fact, one of them we became friends on FB, and really surprised me when sending me a picture. I did have this picture, but it was in b/w, and to top that off, unfortunately my head was hiding my d-i-l who was behind me. 😞 I have no clue whether he knew the one I had was a small picture in b/w or not. But when he sent this one, it is in color, and to top that off, I am NOT hiding my d-i-l's. 🙂 Now why the b/w picture they would print with my d-i-l's face not showing, did not make sense, but maybe they didn't look at the picture that close to noticed when they printed it up. My one drawback on the picture package deal was they printed some in b/w, and also they made some of the pictures small. Now how they decided on "which" ones to make in b/w and small, makes me wonder.

May 8, 2004. New Mexico. #3. Posted October 22, 2005. There will be some sort of package deal; Princess seems to be tweaking the exact details all the time. But they will allow you to dowload your pictures from your camera as often as you need throughout the cruise and they will burn a CD for you at the end.

January 6, 2008. San Francisco. #7. Posted September 6, 2022 (edited) I'm interested to hear if they have the $99 package as it was an excellent value. I'm on a cruise in October & on the wed site it's 5 photos for $89 or 10 photos for $169 plus the digital photos. Not sure if the price is any different once on board.

Curious about the answer myself, meaning under the new Premier offer.
