Doha, Qatar Cruises
Doha is the capital of Qatar and the most populous city on the coast of the Persian Gulf in the east of the country, north of Al Wakrah, and South of Al Khor. Whether it's the stunning and constantly changing skyline or the massive investments, Qatari authorities make in landmark cultural icons. This multicultural city is home to most of the country's population and expatriate communities. It has been rising from the desert and is an ambition brought to life by the world's most talented architects and their teams. Now, you can turn your transit in Doha into an incredible experience while discovering Qatar on a Qatar cruise trip vacation. A Doha cruise trip can be a great way to experience all that the city has to offer, as well as the surrounding areas of the Persian Gulf.
Doha Highlights
In 2022, the city slated to host the soccer World Cup will be the hub of one of Asia's most dynamic economies. The city's impressive skyline is constantly enhanced by new wonders, which makes it a popular tourist destination. You can also enjoy a wide variety of cultural festivals. It's the place to be if you want to see the latest international films or the best Arabic musical performances. A few highlights of Doha can be found here.
1. Creating Its Own Future
As skyscrapers sprout from the ground like palm trees in a desert oasis, Doha is paving its way into the future. Although it's in a development phase, the city remains relatively small. It is ideal for short-term visitors because sights like museums, galleries, and souks are easily accessible. The fact that the city is not forgetting its tradition and history while it undergoes such rapid development is comforting. Doha keeps one foot firmly in the past even as it strives to create a bright future.
2. Eating and Drinking
You can sample all the indulgent sweet and savory dishes of Qatari cuisine while on a cruise to Doha. Qatari cuisine features bold flavors combining influences from Africa , India , and the Mediterranean . Qatari cuisine uses rose water, Yemeni honey, dates, and camel meat cooked to a tender state. The most popular Qatari dish is Machboos, a thinly sliced grilled meat wrap served at lunchtime. You'll find this traditional dish in local restaurants around Souq Waqif, where it's similar to Indian biryani.
3. Shopping
A serious pastime in Doha is shopping, which includes everything from big names in fashion to fragrant spices. The Pearl is an artificial island in the city where you can enjoy the city's best shopping experience. This futuristic suburb is awash from the coast of Doha with luxury labels. It represents international fashion's crème de la crème. The historical Souq Waqif occupies the opposite end of the spectrum. There is nothing more Middle Eastern than a trip through this ancient labyrinth in Doha, which has become one of the city's most popular attractions. Aside from dried fruits, nuts, and woody incense, you'll find clothing, spices, jewelry, and Bedouin rugs here.
Interesting Spots to Visit
For a taste of traditional Qatari culture, you can visit the city's many museums and cultural attractions on a Qatar cruise trip. An impressive seafront corniche lines Qatar's capital and largest city, lined with strikingly modern architecture. A traditional dhow ride will give you an incredible view of the sea. There aren't many famous tourist attractions in Doha, but there are some exciting attractions, along with a glittering skyline that constantly changes. Tourists can visit the following beautiful spots on their cruise trip from Doha.
1. Katara Village
One of the best places to visit in Doha is Katara Cultural Village, located on the eastern coast between West Bay and The Pearl. TEDx Doha and Ajyal Youth Film Festival are two of its most significant events. It is designed to mimic the look, feel, and atmosphere of a traditional Qatari Al Faraj through its buildings and facilities.
2. The Pearl
There are Mediterranean-style marinas, residential towers, private villas, hotels, and top branded boutiques and showrooms on The Pearl - Qatar, an artificial island off the coast of Qatar. There are dozens of restaurants, waterfront cafes, and shops around the world at the Pearl - Qatar, making it a trendy dining spot. Due to its ambiance, architecture, and alfresco dining, the Pearl is one of the most visited spots in Qatar and is often called the Arabian Riviera . The Pearl - Qatar offers a world-class example of modern architecture. This feature makes it stand out from other full-time residences and makes it an ideal place where beauty is everywhere you look.
3. Inland Sea
Visiting the Inland Sea is a must to experience desert adventures in Qatar. A UNESCO natural reserve 60 km from Doha, the Inland Sea of Khor Al Adaid is one of Qatar's must-see places. During high tide, the dunes meet the sea in one of the few places in the world. The site offers breathtaking landscapes and a chance to see unique species. Khor Al Adaid is home to rare turtle species and dugongs. Only 4X4 vehicles can drive across the dunes to reach this place.
4. Islamic Cultural Center
The Islamic Cultural Center, also called Fanar, is a place the whole family should visit. Non-muslims are welcome to participate in various activities offered by this charitable organization. Visitors are often drawn to the center because it organizes several exhibitions and activities throughout the year. Fanar offers Arabic courses to anyone who comes here, regardless of background. The courses are offered all year long and come in various types.
5. Museums and Galleries
The Qatari government has invested money in building its cultural infrastructure, with some fantastic results. In addition to paintings, ceramics, and carpets, the Museum of Islamic Art features various other art forms. There are plenty of cultural attractions, including the Arab Museum of Modern Art and the strikingly designed National Museum of Qatar.
If you're looking to experience the beauty and culture of Doha and the Persian Gulf on a cruise, consider CruiseBooking for your Qatar cruise ship booking. When to Visit?
Doha is located in the Middle East and has a hot desert climate with high temperatures year-round. The best time to visit Doha is in the cooler months from October to April. The city is generally more incredible during these months than the rest of the year. The temperatures are more comfortable, ranging from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit during the day and dropping to the mid-50s to low 60s Fahrenheit at night. This is also the peak tourist season in Doha, so you can expect larger crowds and higher prices. On the other hand, if you're looking to avoid the crowds and find more affordable prices, you may want to consider visiting during the hot summer months from June to September.

See You at the Souq
Colourful textiles on show at a shop in Souq Waqif market, Doha, Qatar
The traditional Souq Waqif is a mesmerizing place to explore. There's been a market here for centuries, though the original one was destroyed in a fire in 2003. Today, the area has been redeveloped to resemble a 19th-century market, with mud-rendered shops and beautifully restored Qatari buildings.
Fortress of the Arts
The geometric architecture of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar
The extraordinary building of the Museum of Islamic Art is located on a purpose-built island. Marvel at the largest collection of Islamic art in the world — you'll see everything from traditional Persian rugs and ancient jewelry to astrolabes, an astronomer's tool used in medieval times — and admire the splendid views across the water.
Walk on Water
Join the Qataris and the large number of expats for a stroll along the corniche, a manmade waterfront promenade built to form an attractive crescent. Cruise to Doha to admire the spectacular view of traditional wooden boats in the foreground and the futuristic skyscrapers of West Bay that lie across the water on land reclaimed from the sea.
Local Cuisine
The diverse people who built Doha also brought with them their home cuisines, which means you can sample food from anywhere in the world. For the most distinctive bites, try simple, traditional Qatari dishes like kabsa, which pairs chicken marinated in tomatoes and spices with fried almonds and raisins over rice, or thareed, a hearty stew of carrots, beans and potatoes with chicken or lamb.
Browse the shops in the traditional Souq Waqif for perfumes, textiles, carpets and handicrafts. Visit the Falcon Souq, the Gold Souq, and the Bird Souq too. Doha cruises give you access to countless shopping malls, like City Center Doha, Landmark and the Venetia-themed Villaggio, offer a mix of dining, shopping and entertainment.

The Top 10 Dhow Cruises in Doha: A Magical Blend of Tradition and Luxury
Nestled on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, Qatar boasts a rich maritime heritage deeply intertwined with the iconic dhow boats.
For centuries, these traditional wooden vessels have been the lifeline of Qatar’s economy, serving as the backbone of its trade, fishing, and pearl diving industries.
Today, while modernization and progress have reshaped Qatar’s landscape, the allure of these historic boats still captures the hearts of locals and visitors alike.
Understanding the Rich History of Dhows in Qatar
The history of dhows in Qatar traces back to ancient times when Bedouin tribesmen first crafted these sturdy wooden boats to navigate the Persian Gulf’s azure waters.
With their majestic lateen sails billowing in the wind, dhows traversed the seas to connect the Arabian Peninsula with far-flung lands, trading in pearls, spices, textiles, and other precious commodities.
As the country’s fortunes flourished, so did the significance of dhows, turning them into cultural symbols of Qatari identity.
Dhow construction became an art form passed down through generations, with master shipbuilders meticulously crafting these vessels using traditional techniques and locally sourced timber.
The craft’s intricate design and impeccable functionality were honed over centuries, ensuring that each dhow was perfectly suited to withstand the harsh marine conditions and sail the vast Arabian waters.

WORLD cruise passengers have told how they sold their homes for £27,000-a-month trip - but ship still hasn't left Belfast 13 weeks in.
The Odyssey was supposed to take passengers on an epic three-year tour of Europe , Asia and the Americas.
But the ship has been stuck in Belfast for three months after crew discovered problems with its rudders and gearbox.
Some of The Odyssey's passengers had sold all their possessions to pay between £75,000 and £700,000 for a cabin.
They now have to disembark from the ship at night and stay in local hotels.
Swedish pensioner Johan Bodin, 54, told the Mail : "We've had a good time but we didn't sign up for a ship to stay in one port."

Johan has kept himself busy touring Belfast's pubs, visiting Giant's Causeway and trying fish and chips.
Holly Hennessy, 67, from Florida, told the Telegraph : "It hasn't felt like summer.
"It has been winter as far as I'm concerned. I'm used to the Florida sunshine. I had to go out and buy vitamin D tablets."
The Odyssey was built in 1993 and can hold more than 900 passengers.

Cancelled cruises - know your rights
Heading on a cruise? Here's what to do if it gets cancelled and your rights for refunds and compensation.
How do I find out if my cruise has been cancelled?
Cruise liners should let you know as soon as possible if your cruise has been cancelled.
If it's cancelled on the day of the trip, you should be informed no later than 30minutes after the time you're scheduled to leave.
P& O is contacting all passengers who were due to visit the area.
What if my cruise is cancelled and I'm at the port?
If your trip has been cancelled and you're already at the port then the operator should provide you with free snacks, meals and refreshments, even if the reason it's been cancelled is due to bad weather.
What you're entitled to depends on how long the delay is.
The Department for Transport recommends that tea and water are appropriate refreshments for a delay of over four hours, followed by a snack or light meal.
If the delay goes over eight hours then a hot meal should be provided.
But food and drink will only be provided if the operator can get them to you reasonably, says ABTA.
This will depend on the facilities available at the port terminal or on board the ship, the time of day and how close the port is to local amenities.
The operator should also offer you free accommodation if the cancellation means you need to stay somewhere overnight, either on board the ship or ashore.
But it's also free to look at other options, such as paying for your trip home or asking you to make your own arrangements and offering to reimburse expenses.
The only time the ship does not have to offer this service is when the cruise has been cancelled due to bad weather, where the conditions might endanger the safety of the ship.
Can I get a refund or compensation if my trip doesn't go ahead?
If your cruise has been cancelled the operator should offer you the choice of either an alternative trip or a refund.
Unlike EU regulations that protect passengers from airline cancellations, there is no fixed amount of compensation owed to you in these kinds of situations.
You may be entitled to compensation through the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangement Act 2018.
You'll only be able to claim the cash if the tour operator is unable to put the trip right again.
And you won't get a payout if the cruise was cancelled due to extraordinary circumstances.
Will I get a refund if I cancel the cruise?
If you cancel your trip then you won't be able to claim compensation and you may have to pay a cancellation fee.
You might be able to claim your travel insurance depending on the policy, so it's worth checking the small print.
"We have since then been quite humbled by the scale of what it takes to reactivate a 30-year-old vessel from a 4-year layup.
"After the lapse of all classifications of class, we are now considering a new ship where all machinery and equipment must work as if new.
"We are having to do major works such as the rudder stocks, major steelwork and engine overhauls."
He claimed the ship was now in its last stages of departure, with sea trials coming next week.
He added: "We expect a very anticipated successful launch next week.
We've had a good time but we didn't sign up for a ship to stay in one port Johan Bodin Villa Vie Resident
"We will head to Bremerhaven, Amsterdam, Lisbon, then across the Atlantic for our Caribbean segment.
"We are extremely grateful for our residents who have stood by our side through the tough times.
"We have worked with our residents to provide hotels, cruises, shore excursions, trips to Tenerife and Liverpool.
"We are welcoming them for onboard visits where they can get their rooms ready and connect with crew and fellow residents.
"It is great to see the relationships building and the community bonding as we are looking forward to the next 15 years of discovery."

Founding partner Sebastian Stokkendal added that holidaymakers had access to shuttles to visit the ship during the day.
He said: "We have been serving food and drinks and offering some entertainment as well. "Additionally, we will rejoin our original itinerary as soon as we launch. While we will miss most of the Northern European segment due to being at the tail end of summer, we will add Northern Europe to the 2027 schedule. "The support we’ve received has been incredible, and it’s really fueling our excitement for what lies ahead. We’re counting down the days until we can finally launch and kick off this exciting adventure."

Cruising with 9Travel: Expert reveals the 'most important' when packing for a cruise
By Honida Beram | 2 days ago
Cruising with 9Travel brings you the best tips and tricks plus everything you need to know, from self-confessed cruise addict, Honida Beram aka Cruising With Honey. She has sailed the seven continents of the world, on a seafaring mission to uncover the globe and share her adventures.
Your cruise countdown is on, and you've pulled out your trusty luggage to prepare for your adventure. But, what to pack ?
It's easy to go overboard, but the trick to packing effectively for a cruise is all about being strategic.
After more than 50 cruises, I've mastered the art of packing for a cruise in 20 minutes. Yes, you read that right, t-w-e-n-t-y minutes. Planning takes a bit longer, but if you follow my advice, the pain of packing will soon evaporate.
READ MORE: The travel trend Australians are gravitating toward
A packing plan
When I was cruise newbie, I would pack everything but the kitchen sink and could have written a best-seller titled 'Confessions of a Serial Overpacker'. In my mind, I would throw things in 'just in case'. Until, I realised that while you're on a ship, you don't have to panic if you've forgotten your toothbrush.
My first tip is to start a list about one week out from your cruise. Think about your destination, theme nights (formal and dress-up), and the season you will be cruising.
Then put an empty washing basket in your room and start filling it with clothes and accessories. (If you're packing for others, use a separate washing basket for each person). This way you can visually see the number of items and whether or not that pile is getting too big!

Destination dressing
The most important thing to consider when packing for a cruise is the destination. Are you cruising to Alaska? You'll need layers and a puffer jacket. Is your trip in the balmy South Pacific? Then swimsuits, light clothing and hats are essential.
Honey Tip: Wherever you're cruising, the destination should dictate your staple wardrobe.
Also consider what activities you'll be doing on your shore excursions. For example, if you're planning on snorkelling, take your own gear. If you're doing any thrill-seeking activities (horse riding, parasailing, jet boating) remember to pack the right footwear.

Formal, fun and festive
Cruising is all about taking part in all the fun onboard. Even if you're not an extrovert, dressing up for theme nights on cruise ships is unique to any other travel experience. Join in and pose for those photos that you'll look back on with fondness – and a few giggles.
There's usually one Formal Night on most cruises. Here is your opportunity to dress to the nines! Pack that glitzy dress and charming tux. The bonus is that Formal Night usually corresponds with the Captain's Reception where the skipper introduces all his senior officers, all who are resplendently dressed in their Dress uniforms (swoon).
Another thing to consider when packing a formal outfit is that you might be attending a shore excursion at night to watch a world-famous orchestra in a palace. You don't want to be under-dressed for such a marvellous event.
From Island, 80s, Gatsby and White nights, Theme Nights on cruises are always fun, and a great way for passengers of all ages to get involved. Head to your favourite discount store (it doesn't have to be an expensive exercise) and you'd be amazed how a feather boa or a Mexican sombrero can transform an outfit. Kids love dressing up and you will feel left out if you don't pack a few items.
Festive cruise dressing is another thing to consider when packing. For instance, you might be cruising during Christmas (or Christmas in July – think ugly Christmas sweaters) or Halloween. Get into the spirit.
Essentially essentials
'Essentials' means exactly that – essentials. Don't pack your 1-litre shampoo bottles for a 3-night cruise, 10 pairs of high heels, all your jewellery, or every medication you think you might need. Instead, pack travel size toiletries, your essential medication and footwear you can mix and match with several outfits.
Remember, there are shops onboard and there are shops on land. You can buy things you need or have forgotten. There is also a fully-equipped medical centre onboard.
Honey tip: Take a small first aid kit with band aids, a bandage, calamine lotion, antihistamine, paracetamol and ibuprofen and sea sick meds.
Packing it all in
You've checked off everything on your list and you have a pile in the corner of your room, now what?
My number one Honey Packing Tip: packing cubes.
If you've used them, you know. If you haven't, I'm about to change your life. Not only do they organise your luggage neatly, BUT when you unpack onboard, you don't have to unpack fully.
Let me explain. You have packed your clothes in your packing cubes by category. Undies, bras, socks in one, scarves, belts, accessories in another. Get the picture? Then simply take out each packing cube and place the packing cube – without taking out the items - in your cabin drawers and wardrobe. The only exceptions are items that you'd like to hang up, and toiletries. And shazam, you've unpacked very quickly, and your items all remain organised for repacking on the last day.
A toiletries tip would be to take a hanging toiletry bag for each passenger to keep items tidy. Cabin bathrooms are not known for their size, and if sharing with several people, hanging toiletry bags are the best space saver.
But wait, there's more.
Packing will differ depending on who you're cruising with. If you're travelling with babies and younger kids, don't forget their bottles, favourite toy or security blanket. You can take food onboard (kids can be fussy) but just keep this in its original packaging.
If you have special needs and require certain equipment (CPAP, mobility aids, sensory tools) make sure you don't forget these items. Cruising is an inclusive form of travel and port staff and crew are always helpful and accommodating.
And of course there's electronics, cables, cameras and chargers. Newer ships have USB ports, but always bring a universal adaptor.
Here are a few other things that you might not have thought of:
- Lanyard for your cruise card
- Empty beach bag/backpack to take on shore excursions
- Reusable drink bottle
- Magnets and or magnetic hooks (cabin walls are metal)
- Laundry Washing liquid/powder for the self-service laundry
- Post-it notes (to leave messages for your cabin buddies)
- Reusable calico bags (for storing dirty clothes)
- A spare set of reading glasses (especially if you wear contact lenses)
- Hair dryer/straightener
Honey Tip for the ladies: Take a scarf or shawl – no matter where you're cruising. You will get cold onboard and a nice warm wrap is perfect for those romantic sunset strolls on deck.
What not to pack
I know that while you're packing, you're imaging yourself lying by the pool on the Lido Deck, and it suddenly dawns on you, do I need a beach towel? Let me reassure you, you do NOT need to pack beach towels as these are supplied on the ship. And you can take them with you on shore excursions.
Some cruise lines allow limited soft drinks and alcohol.
Water is also not allowed as too many people have tried to smuggle alcoholic spirits disguised as water. And don't even try that old trick of filling a bottle of mouthwash with alcohol and adding a few drops of food colouring. Port staff and security have seen it all before, it will be confiscated.
Other items you should most definitely not pack include:
- Humidifiers
- Power boards
- Coffee makers
Don't leave home without….
And finally, don't even dream about boarding a ship without your manners, a little patience and sense of adventure.
Life onboard isn't perfect, but the crew are hardworking and friendly. Be polite, be gracious and remember they are working long, long hours and are separated from their families for months. If your poached eggs aren't runny enough, it's not the end of the world.
Please take a few extra goodies, like chocolates, for your room steward or leave them a nice tip. They've earned it, they've cleaned your toilet.
Stay tuned for more expert advice in the next instalment of Cruising with 9Travel.

Can you go on a cruise with a green card? What US permanent residents need to know about travel documents
Taking a cruise is relaxing, but making sure all your documents are in order for your sailing can be challenging, even more so for United States permanent residents who have a green card. The good news is that if you are a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., you are allowed to travel outside the country and can go on a cruise with your green card.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection , "If you are a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) of the United States, the U.S. government does not require you to have a passport for any travel, including air, land, or sea travel, however, you are even more likely to be required by your destination country to have one."
If you're a lawful permanent resident, you're cleared for foreign travel, but the documents you need for a cruise vacation might vary based on your departure port and destinations visited.

Here are the key points you need to know about travel documents if you'd like to go on a cruise as a green-card holder or other non-citizen resident of the U.S.
Does a green card count as a passport?
A green card and a passport are not the same. While both documents are proof of identity, a passport is evidence of your citizenship while a green card shows that you are legally permitted to live and work in the U.S. as a foreign national.
Can I cruise from the US with just a green card?
As a lawful permanent resident going on a cruise from and back to U.S. home ports, you will need your green card to prove your identity and citizenship status so you can reenter the U.S. at the end of your sailing. You'll have to show the card during the boarding process and again when you reenter the U.S. at the end of your sailing.
Whether you also need a passport from your home country depends on your exact itinerary and the cruise line you're sailing.
"A green card holder can sail on closed-loop sailings without a passport," a representative from Carnival Cruise Line explained, referencing round-trip cruises that begin and end in the same U.S. city that only visit nearby countries in the Western Hemisphere (e.g., the Bahamas and Caribbean islands).
However, there are exceptions. For example, permanent residents must bring their home country passport if their cruises stop in Canada, Colombia, Bermuda or Greenland. A closed-loop cruise visiting ports in Mexico might require a passport, another cruise line representative told us, so double-check if you're cruising to Puerto Vallarta or Cozumel.
Transatlantic and transpacific cruises and sailings that start in one U.S. city and end in another one (such as full Panama Canal transits) also require green-card holders to carry a passport.
Additionally, some cruise lines might require permanent residents to carry a passport regardless of itinerary, so make sure you check the policy of the line you intend to sail. It's generally a good idea, especially if something goes wrong on your vacation and you have to disembark early and fly home.
You might also need a tourist visa to enter the port depending on that country's rules for travel for citizens of your home country. If you need a visa, you typically will need to carry your home country passport as well.
To determine which ports require visas or passports to enter, you can enquire with your travel adviser or head to the government website or embassy of each country your cruise visits to research visa requirements, forms, information and fees for your nationality.

Can I cruise internationally with a green card?
Lawful permanent residents are not limited to cruises from U.S. ports; they can book sailings in Europe, Asia, South America and other international destinations.
To enter another country by air, you will need a passport from your country of citizenship and potentially some travel visas. You'll need your green card to return to the U.S.
For example, if you're taking an Alaska cruise that departs from Vancouver, British Columbia, you will need a home country passport and a green card to go through international customs at the airport. If you're taking a cruise through Europe, you will need your green card, home passport and a visa.
All green-card users should contact the embassy or consulate of the countries on the itinerary to learn about the travel documents that are required. Depending on the ports of call, you might also need a Schengen visa , which allows entry and transit through 26 countries in Europe that are part of the Schengen Agreement. These countries include popular cruise destinations like France, Greece, Italy, Norway and Spain.

What if I don't have a green card but want to travel under the Visa Waiver Program?
For those who are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, taking a cruise is still possible. If you are traveling under the Visa Waiver Program, you can use the immigration stamp (I-94W) that you were given when you first entered the U.S. to reenter the country at the end of a cruise. Just be sure that your cruise ends before the 90-day admission period that you were originally given with the stamp.
Additionally, if you're using an immigration stamp to reenter the U.S., you will need to be sure that your cruise isn't too far away, is only visiting nearby islands or the contiguous country, and that the trip does not take you outside the U.S. for more than 30 days.
If your cruise goes beyond the 90-day admission time, you will need to apply for a new admission period. You will also have to talk to the Customs and Border Protection officer about how you were not using the cruise to get around the time limit for Visa Waiver Program travelers.
How do I reenter the US with a green card?
Reentering the U.S. with a green card is simple. You will need your current, unexpired permanent resident card or green card to give to the Customs and Border Protection officer. Additionally, if you have any other documents that prove your identity, such as a U.S. driver's license, a foreign national ID card or a passport, give those to the officer as well. The officer will use the documents to verify your identity and immigration status.
Does cruise travel outside the US affect permanent resident status?
If you are a permanent resident, you can travel outside the country for brief travel and it usually does not impact your status. This can change if you travel outside the U.S. for more than a year, but you're likely not cruising for that long.
Bottom line
If you're ready to book a cruise but only have your green card as a lawful permanent resident, you don't need to worry because you can set sail on the high seas without a U.S. passport. However, you often need a passport from your home country and possibly visas to enter ports of call. You will also need to prove your identity upon returning to the U.S. with your green card and a second form of identification, such as a home country passport.
A select few closed-loop, round-trip cruises sailing from a U.S. port only require you to sail with your green card and not a home country passport, but you must make sure your itinerary qualifies otherwise you can get turned away for having missing documentation. It's always safer to travel with your home country passport, even if it's not required.
Even if you don't have a green card and you only have an immigration stamp under the Visa Waiver Program, you can still take a cruise as long as it's within the 90-day admission period. For either an immigration stamp or green card, it's important to note the length of the cruise and where it goes. You don't want to get held at Customs and Border Protection upon reentering the U.S. for going outside the travel parameters of the type of citizen identification you have.
